also because orange critter is still on my mind right now, a Very Old (late 2023) unfinished part of a fic where jackle and reala debate what to get nights for christmas

“Do you know what you’re getting NiGHTS for Christmas yet?” 

“What I’m getting them…? Are we supposed to get things?”

Jackle stared at Reala over his quickly-dwindling hand of Uno cards, one eyebrow raised (well, probably. That was the impression Reala got, at least). Meeting up like this had become a bit of a tradition, a few times every week, sometimes with NiGHTS, usually just the two of them. Reala would come in just to visit his older sibling before everyone settled down for bed, whatever time of day that may have been, and because Jackle seemed to own every card known to both human and Maren-kind, it often involved some sort of game. 

(Speaking of every card, Reala mentally checked that off the list of potential gifts he had begun forming in his mind. If only Jackle had never found out about Uno— Reala assumed Claris had shown him— this would have been an easy Christmas… and it probably would have stopped quite a bit of sibling bickering over the past few months.)

Hundreds of years worth of collecting all manner of things - surely there had to be something NiGHTS would want. And at least the hoard was fairly organized, similar items grouped together, the things Jackle especially liked (cards, coins, sharp things) closer to the front, easiest to grab when he reached into his cape. 

“…Can I have this?” 

“Only if it means I don’t have to find a present for you now, too.” Too deeply invested in rooting through the mountain of objects in front of him, he didn’t even bother turning to see what Reala had found. Jackle certainly didn’t mind losing a few items, and even if it was something good, he probably had another one somewhere—

“Great, I always wanted a sword.”

the thing abt having a slightly uncommon name is that whenever i see it naturally occurring in the wild i get a little jumpscared and this is especially the case ever since [redacted] character from a certain show blew up and now everytime i search my name it is only pictures of her. my dad even got me a [redacted] lego set for christmas because he saw my name on the cover of it and went …? because he had never seen it on a piece of merchandise before and it surprised him which was sweet but also it was aimed for kids age 8-11 so its literally been sitting in my room gathering dust cuz i have no idea what to do w this thing 😭
