One for All Band AU! Generation 1. Banjo's talking about fight night (code for "We are vigilantes disguising ourselves, but really effectively, as a rock band") which Toshinori enthusiastically wants to participate in. Torino and Bruce are gossiping.

The epilogue made me reevaluate this panel of Hawks, the framing of Twice's murder, and, in fact, the story's stance on extrajudicial killings as a whole.
For the longest time, I thought the way Hawks was drawn here - pitch black and inducing a certain sense of dread within the reader (kinda like a villain) - was a very unsubtle hint that what Hawks was doing here wasn't right, it wasn't heroic. It was something we readers shouldn't endorse.
But, perhaps this panel was supposed to depict only Twice's view of Hawks - not the story's, not Horikoshi's, only Twice's…
Like many others, I thought the aftermath of Hawks killing Twice would lead to an interesting development of Hawks' character, him struggling with killing such a "good guy", asking himself whether he truly made the right choice, questioning the origin of villains. It would also lead to the hero kids starting to question things: the whole hero system, hero society's handling of villains, the choices made by the adults around them, etc. How could it come to this, a hero killing someone, when heroes are supposed to save people?
But none of the kids were ever shown to spare this issue a thought.
Sometime after the first war, Midoriya - our moral compass in this story - was more concerned with Lady Nagant killing the former president of the HPSC, allying herself with All For One, and having lost her faith in heroes rather than her extrajudicial killings. His biggest takeaway from her story was that things aren't black and white - that's all. No dismay at the HPSC's crimes, no engaging with hero society's dark sides. Nothing.
And now, without ever really reflecting on the decisions he made regarding Twice, without ever showing any doubt in his righteousness, Hawks has become the new president of the HPSC and seems to be living his best life.
What does that say about the story's stance on extrajudicial killings? No character on the heroes' side ever condemns them, not even Deku, our moral compass. Thus, I have to assume that the author himself doesn't condemn them.
It's sad, but sometimes it can't be helped - extrajudicial killings are a necessary evil.
Maybe Horikoshi doesn't really think like this, but the way things are framed tells a different story. (Not to mention the parallels between Deku killing Tomura and Hawks killing Twice.)

let's talk about pino!
according to the whm booklet, rody's quirk is always active. she isn't always present, though. from what we can see in the movie, pino primarily nests in rody's hair!
Tumblr media
so... is there a trend?
obviously she hops out when a strong emotion flares up, but it seems like she's also more likely to be out and about when he's feeling relatively safe/comfortable? she's present when he says goodbye to his siblings, she's present when they're settling down for that first night on the run, she's present when they're in the hotel, etc. etc.
there are only a few times where pino is present during an action scene. the first instance is, of course, during the first chase scene when she flew out to stop deku. she briefly remained out, notifying rody that they were still being chased before disappearing. she appears again when he's going down the rail, disappears, and then comes out of his hair again to check on him after he was almost crushed by falling debris.
Tumblr media
pino was not present during the attempted betrayal. after leading deku to him, we can presume that, offscreen, she returned to his hair or went into his hood. the next time she comes out is when rody finally warms up to deku in the cave scene.
it's also worth noting that she is not present during the following villain encounter, only coming out for introductions when their safety was guaranteed.
Tumblr media
honestly, the only time we actually see pino in harm's way is during the battle with flect, and that was because rody relied on her to not only signal deku, but to catch the flash drive.
why am i talking about this? well, and this is a far-fetched assumption that's going to get into more headcanon/character interpretation territory, but hear me out:
pino is very similar to something from another property: the daemons from his dark materials. for anyone unaware: daemons are the physical manifestation of a person's soul and take the form of an animal. they mirror the way their human interacts with others and can provide emotional insight into how their human is feeling, which is... like i said before, VERY similar to how pino functions.
with this in mind, one has to wonder if their similarities end there or if, potentially, pino shares some other functionalities as a daemon. namely... if pino gets hurt, can rody feel it?
i know that her main function as a quirk is to articulate rody's feelings. still, her tendency to stay out of harm's way really makes you think, especially since we don't see her get injured at any point. little roughed up, sure! but not injured.

Himiko’s Feelings for Izuku:
(or my personal thoughts on them)
I think that the reason that Himiko fell in love with Izuku (or at least became so fixated on him) isn’t just that he looks like her first love, but also because she thought that he could be the one who could finally give her the life that she desperately wants…
Tumblr media
It’s the reason why Himiko was so curious about his motivations for wanting to become a hero, if he would save anyone no matter who they were…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And why Himiko was so heartbroken when he rejected her feelings for him, while not even trying to understand them… because Himiko genuinely felt as if Izuku was her only hope for having the normal life that she wants at that point…
And despite the fact that Himiko loved the league so much (and still does) because they made her feel as if someday she could live the way she wants…
I think that when Jin died she finally realized that it was something she could never have with them if things continued the way that they were.
Tumblr media
Jin was the one who encouraged her the most about being able to live the type of life that she wants, and despite the fact that all he wanted was for her to find happiness…
He didn’t understand it.
Jin encouraged her to kill whoever she wants so that she could become whoever she wants, because that’s what he genuinely thought would make her happy…
Tumblr media
But that isn’t what she wanted.
Himiko wants to live a normal life, a life where she doesn’t have to be on the run or stay in hiding, one where she won’t be caught and imprisoned for the rest of her life, one where she will be loved and accepted…
A life where she can fully be able to live as Himiko Toga.
And even though she wasn’t able to find that in Izuku, it is a life that she eventually will be able to have with Ochako, someone who makes Himiko feel that she’s a normal girl with the cutest smile in the whole world !

Probably not gonna match with when this comes out translated, but still—just a few things I liked about BNHA 423
Tumblr media
WE GOT TO SEE THE VESTIGES AGAAAAINNNNN!!! HI BRUCE!
I think Bruce gets a lot of bad angles. This is an example (but it's okay honey, you're still hot stuff)
Unfortunately, I have a favorite. It's Bruce. The most Normal Guy™ in the vestige line up. And the special-est sopping wet cat for Kudo ever (Yoichi is a dry cat because at least Kudo remembered to take Yoichi inside).
The vestiges were all gearing for a punch, but Tomura/Tenko is reaching out.
The rest of the users usually use OFA to punch, is the general idea we see. But Tomura/Tenko's Quirk isn't that.
Tomura/Tenko reaching his hand out to grab, and the vestiges readying a punch—it's their ways of putting the hurt on.
And Tomura/Tenko knows what happens if he puts his fingers on someone. He was aiming for AFO's head too. Guy was pissed.
I like that the vestiges look like they're crawling out of hell (or the depths) here. Technically for OFA itself, which they embody, being in AFO's realm was hell. It meant they failed their collective goals to win against AFO, and keep OFA [Yoichi] out of his possession
Also, they're all embers of who they once were. If Factors embodied their personalities, these embers are the leftovers of that embodiment. Their eyes are blank.
And even when they're only shattered fragments of themselves, they came for AFO to take him down.
They really embodied that purpose. Even as husks of themselves, or sad leftovers that scattered from their destroyed Factors, they still reached forward to clock AFO one last time.
They were that determined, and that determination was all that was left of them.
Meanwhile, with Yoichi, his itty bitty remains continued trying to talk sense into his brother till the end.
Yoichi has such a bleeding heart. But he also loved his brother.
Tumblr media
AFO is standing in the dark. But in that dark, there's a light. It's Yoichi, as if he were the light at the end of the tunnel.
AFO chased OFA for decades, and ruined a lot of lives, just to have Yoichi by his side again.
Joining hands with Garaki; killing Banjo, En, Nana; forcing the creation and upbringing of Tenko; the whole Shimura incident; everything he did to UA and the Aoyamas to get close to the wielder of OFA [Yoichi]. He did all that, and more.
He just wanted the chance to have Yoichi with him again. That was his purpose in obtaining OFA this whole time.
Tumblr media
Yoichi was AFO's light at the end of the tunnel.
Too bad for AFO, the light at the end of the tunnel was an oncoming train.
Yoichi is telling AFO what happened, but I love that in front of Yoichi, AFO became himself. I mean, not a mass of scar tissue, but who he originally looked like
Idk, there's just something symbolic about it?
Tumblr media
Midoriya calls AFO a lonely man. And Yoichi comes to him, and AFO says he wants Yoichi by his side. He wouldn't be lonely if that were the case. Yoichi could make him not lonely anymore.
And the lonely man, a bundle of scar tissue from his warpath to see Yoichi again, reverts to a time he had no injuries or scars. He looks like the period of time where he and Yoichi lived in the same era.
In front of Yoichi, he's just.. himself, I guess is how to put it. Not a mass of scar tissue, or the evil villain everyone feared: he's literally just Yoichi's "Nii-san".
It's like, the scar tissue shed itself to reveal AFO's true face.
He wants to see Yoichi's face, and ended up showing his own without even meaning or thinking to.
He's finally looking straight at Yoichi, trying to see his face. It's not like when Yoichi was alive, when AFO always looked down on him, and just waited for him to bend to his will.
Now, AFO has little time left with Yoichi, and he's lost his composure for it, wanting to see Yoichi as more than an ember. But maybe he got to the point he only ever saw Yoichi for his Factor, rather than the Factor for Yoichi: how often has he said he was chasing One For All, instead of his younger brother?
AFO wanted to see Yoichi's face, but when he saw Yoichi next to Kudo... yeah, he lost his mind a bit there. Probably (Definitely?) because he saw Kudo's Ability, and Kudo with Yoichi. And Kudo is "to blame for everything".
Tumblr media
Maybe he lost it seeing Kudo and Yoichi together, because it was a repeat of the past, I suppose?
(Technically, he did see Yoichi's face one last time already. Just that he also saw the bastard Kudo's face again too. And AFO did not like that.)

i wonder who would be the first todoroki to discover that the safety commission pres who brings a huge bunch of fukuoka delicacies as gifts whenever he drops by for dinner (which is at least once a month) is like, in love with their dad
option 1: Natsuo who visits Endeavor once every two years max at Fuyumi's request, drops by one time with his girlfriend and it coincides with Hawks. Instantly figures it out even though Endeavor himself is oblivious. When he's alone with Hawks in the kitchen cleaning up the dishes, Natsuo stares at him straight in the eye, narrows his eyes and whispers: "homewrecker" (he doesn't live at home and there isn't much of a home to wreck. but.)
option 2: Fuyumi doesn't live in the house anymore, but she originates all the dinner gatherings anyway and she visits often, enough to see Hawks every 4 to 5 visits, more if she counts the times she's run into them outside, seeing Hawks comfortably offering to push Endeavor's wheelchair only to get rebuffed with equal casualness. With her perceptiveness, it doesn't take long to put 2 and 2 together. She's conflicted. I mean, the marriage with their mom was arranged and all of that had happened, so it's mostly kinship between them anyway. Mom is happier dividing her time between Tokyo and Asahikawa nowadays, so she's not even here to see this, but still, it feels strange. Maybe that's what dad needs, though? Someone who loves him for all of who he is? She goes to Natsuo to discuss, who just puts a hand up and says "i don't want to know about any of this" (he comes around eventually)
option 3: To his own surprise, after a few years, Shoto doesn't feel as edgy as he used to, when he answers Fuyumi's requests for dinner gatherings. He catches none of the looks Hawks throws at Endeavor, or the little touches, or the lack of personal space and what not that occur whenever Hawks is invited. Fukuoka's mentaiko and hakata torimon are tasty. He looks forward to them. Months or years down the line, some colleague asks him if he still visits his dad and whether it's true that Hawks and his dad are dating. Shoto:
option 4: Rei is receptive to these things. Lately, she's been finding a lot of community projects to keep her busy in Hokkaido. The air is fresher there, the skyline more vast, and she's starting to feel like she has things she wants to finish, things she wants to start, things she looks forward to. From spending a few weeks at a time there, she's now gotten her own apartment in Asahikawa, and spends over half the year there. Enji never asks her to stay in Tokyo. He never touches her of his own initiative either. But when she's back to check in on him, there are the flowers she likes on the windowsill. It helps that he's so scarred he doesn't look the same as he used to, but when their eyes meet, she feels calm, now. Even so, she feels herself drifting away as the weight leaves her shoulders, and he lets her. It's a new kind of companionship that becomes less and less frequent with time, now that their bonds, weaved by guilt and duty, have grown a bit loose. And it's okay.
The family friend called Hawks has bright eyes and always makes the right remarks to make her laugh. Enji is relaxed when he's there. He complains about his day, laments the bureaucracy of his office, and brightens the whole house. But there are always things he doesn't say, a wistful air that lingers behind the genuine grins. One day, she tells him she's reassured that he's here to look after Enji in her absence. He doesn't have to, of course, but she knows Enji treasures his company, more than anyone else's perhaps. For the first time, he looks like prey. Just a fraction of a second.
And then the smiles are back.
When, the same evening, the golden eyes seek hers again and the jaded face utters a brittle "I'm sorry, okusan" that has no reason to be, she doesn't reply, nor does she tell the children. She continues to spend time in Asahikawa with a light heart. She waits for the good news.

Like. Ok. I fucking hate atsushi ohkubo I want him dead this is an established fact but it fucking BAFFLES me that mr terminally horny managed to write not only one of the best shounen female protagonists of all time (imo) but also have two female villains that are legitimately well written and threatening and aren’t some stupid “she’s evil because of a man” trope. Like maka? Wonderful protagonist. Love her dearly. Girlflop. Medusa? Literally just evil for the sake of it and incredibly competent and conniving. Arachne? Actually threatening and in charge of a massive organization.
& out of the side characters… Tsubaki has so much depth even if he dropped the ball on exploring her character more. Liz and Patty are both incredibly talented and interesting. Those three are all allowed to exist outside of the male character they’re grouped with. Iirc Marie is literally the only romance obsessed female character and that’s more or less a “I want to start a family and settle down” thing instead of a “I’m a woman so my primary goal in life is finding a man thing.” No we don’t talk about the fucking cat. Fine. Blair is powerful and competent when she’s not being the worst character in the story. I generally try not to think about her. And there are several other female characters in the supporting cast that are fairly well written (jackie, Kim, eruka) or are treated with the same level of respect as the male minor characters even if they’re not fleshed out (naigus, azusa).
It’s so fascinating. Ohkubo is so weird. Man is the world’s leading woman respecting misogynist. Guy who sees women as actual people but chooses to be grossly horny about it anyways. & then he somehow got worse with fire force but I’m not reading that anyways. Not praising him for any of this by the way this is like the bare minimum but it’s just shocking that it’s coming from him of all people.

Do you think any of the Todoroki siblings had a period of time where they hoped Touya was still alive out there somewhere and not actually dead like their father told them? And do you think they wrote letters to him that they kept in their rooms to cope with the loss and the grief of losing him?

kitchen improv (katsuki bakugou x reader)
notes: just like everything else in this series based on real life experiences! LMAO. i should be working on shine on the sea but this happened lmao. i promise i am really not this prolific!!!
contains: possible ooc. i have very little confidence when it comes to writing bakugou’s voice. also not proofread/beta read, i apologize for an errors.
wc: 1.1k
Tumblr media
Bakugou is going to kill you.
You fret wildly over your stovetop, over the pot of soup gently boiling there. It smells heavenly and why wouldn’t it? It was a recipe you’d received from Bakugou a while back, after he’d shown up on your doorstep one evening, touting a container housing a bright lemon yellow soup. He’d said something about making too much and not wanting it to go to waste, and you, ever the glutton, were not one to refuse a free meal, especially one that was home cooked.
You also suspected he’d known you’d planned to eat, as he liked to call it, more of that ‘convenience store shit’ but that’s neither here nor there.
Rather than just leave the soup with you, he’d come in and the both of you chatted while you graciously ate the warm velvety soup he’d offered you. To be honest, it was probably supposed to be two meals worth, but Bakugou’s cooking was so damn good you’d consumed it all in one sitting. Once you were done, Bakugou, after what looked like some thinking, handed you a little recipe card, written in a neat and careful hand, for the soup and off-handedly remarked that even someone like you could probably make it.
He is going to kill you when he finds out he was wrong.
You can already hear him now, annoyance and disappointment saturating his voice as he tells you exactly what you did wrong: you didn’t follow the instructions. It’s not that they were hard to follow or even vague, because Katsuki Bakugou is nothing if not meticulous. You just happened to be… a little loose with them. It should have been fine, you’ve heard that cooking is not an exact science, that it’s okay to improvise a little and that things would still turn out fine.
But maybe you improvised just a little too much.
Panicked, you pace back and forth down the length of your kitchen. Is there something you can do to salvage this? You glance at the pot, the soup looking more and more ominous by the second. Surely, there’s something you can add to make it better… but what? More eggs? More broth?
While you’re contemplating your options the doorbell echoes throughout your apartment and you curse. More than following the goddamn instructions, what you really should have done was not mention to Bakugou that you were making his stupid soup recipe. He’s been teaching you how to cook for how long now? Of course he was going to come and try the fruit of his student’s labor.
You take a deep breath and march over to the door. There’s no use in pretending you’re not home; he already knows you’re here. Besides, if you ignore the doorbell long enough he may very well just bust his way in on his own, thinking you’ve passed out in the kitchen or something.
The front door swings open revealing Bakugou, dressed casually in one of his black t-shirts. You do your best to not get distracted by his sculpted arms, peeking at you from beneath his sleeves; you’ve got a crisis to divert.
“Hey,” you say, leaning against the doorway, with what you hope doesn’t look like a strained smile.
Bakugou’s eyes narrow immediately. Wrong move. He glances past you toward what you think is the kitchen, then looks back at you. “Fess up. What went wrong?”
You gulp. Of course he can tell.
He snorts, and before you can even try to explain yourself, he’s pushing past you. Desperate, you latch onto one of his arms, but it doesn’t stop him.
“Bakugou, wait, I can explain—” you whine as he stomps into the kitchen.
“Doesn’t smell like ya messed up, so—” He stops short as he peers down into the pot. Your breath stops in your chest. Your heart too. Bakugou is completely silent as he stares down into the abyss known as your stock pot. He doesn’t look at you when he finally speaks, his voice completely flat. “You didn’t use chicken stock.”
You squeak. He’s correct. “I… I thought vegetable stock would be okay because that’s what I had on hand!”
How were you supposed to know that vegetable stock would affect the color of the soup that badly? Instead of the pretty lemony yellow the soup is supposed to be, it is a strange cross between orange and brown. If you had to be honest, the color is absolutely off putting— no food meant for consumption should be this color.
Terrified of Bakugou’s response, you shut your eyes, preparing yourself for the scolding. But… it doesn’t come. When you open your eyes he’s still staring at the soup, frowning slightly, like he’s actually unsure what to do. You wonder if he’s also thinking if there’s something that could be done to fix the color.
“...d’ya taste it?”
You definitely seasoned it, but you were far too worried about the soup’s unpalatable color to think about tasting it. Bakugou can tell what your answer is and reaches up to flick your forehead.
“Idiot. Y’should always be tasting yer damn cooking!”
You wince. “But the color!”
He lets out a frustrated sigh and grabs the little tasting dish he convinced you to buy and ladles a little bit of the soup into it, sipping at it. Bakugou’s expression doesn’t change as he tastes the soup, so you can’t tell if it tastes as bad as it looks or worse. Then, he ladles a little more to the dish and offers it to you.
Scared, you stare at the pale brown liquid. It can’t be poisonous. If it was then Bakugou would have said something. For sure. But still, you’re worried. What if it’s gross?
“Hurry up. We don’t got all night,” Bakugou grumbles.
You take a deep breath, and lean forward to try the soup. As you do, you realize that this would count as Bakugou hand feeding you. The thought makes you almost spit out the soup, but you manage to keep cool so you can taste it and…
It actually tastes good. Not the same as when Bakugou made it, but good. Most definitely edible.
You stand up straight and Bakugou is regarding you with a small smile. He knows it’s good too. “Food ain’t all about looks, ya know. “S more important that it tastes good.”
You nod in agreement. He has a point. You’ve eaten a lot of ‘ugly food’ that tasted amazing and a lot of ‘pretty food’ that tasted like garbage. “Right.”
He nods, then flicks your forehead again. Kinder this time. Gentler. “Just make sure ya follow the instructions next time, dork.”

rody has such a low self esteem. of course, right?
"why would a criminal like me be worth getting hurt over"
"truth is, i'm pretty lame"
"look, i'm a worthless delinquent, deku. i can't take on the world, much less save it. i'm not a hero like you."
i know that last one was said while he was feigning compliance with flect, but i don't think he was lying when he said that. i do think there was truth to his words, the way he viewed himself. it makes deku telling him that he did great, that he's amazing all the more meaningful.
...that said, he still thinks pretty lowly of himself. this is evident in the team-up mission. in a small way, sure, but still something worth noting.
Tumblr media
"i feel like i've done nothing but put [roro and lala] through hard times"
this line right here is indicative of it. rody was doing what he could to provide for his siblings and yet he feels like he's responsible for putting them through a rough period...
i also wanna address this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(as a side note, i wanna say good on deku for asking both jirou and shouji to accompany them since they have recon quirks and are going around a big city with two little kids)
rody is doing a good job of raising his siblings!! when roro and lala wanted to buy those pilot goggles, they made sure to ask the heroes! they made sure that they were not alone! he taught them how to be safe!
but... notice what rody assumed when he saw that roro and lala weren't there?
Tumblr media
"i told them not to walk off with strangers"
he immediately assumes that they disregarded what he said. this is a reasonable assumption for sure, but the reason why i bring it up in my argument is because rody does have a level of trust in his siblings. in whm, he knew that he could leave them alone, that they would remain at home, and that they would make dinner and take care of themselves if he was out for an extended period of time.
this assumption of his paired with him feeling like he's done nothing but put them through hard times... it tells me that rody doesn't feel like he's doing a good job of raising his siblings.
