NOT a situation where im like "ok whit = daisuke" no. this is a different situation. their own scenario, trust. XF-Ture Express, despite its reputation for being one of the most reliable delivery services across the galaxy, has a terrible inside system. They have one of the lowest failure rates of the space freighters, being at a whopping 5% chance. Employees are paid a hefty amount, motivated by good working conditions on each ship with quality leisure activities and meal plans. But only the ones who earn it get such treatment. The hierarchy in which employees are forced to participate in never leaves the walls of the building. You do your job right and kill yourself working, you get assigned better ships with better shipments. It is as simple as that. So it is unfathomable when Captain Xander Matthews, considered one of the best, is assigned to a ship that is just barely allowed to launch. The "Fatebringer", is what it is called. It just scraped by inspection and is subpar for an XF-Ture ship, but supposedly it is necessary. Xander's job is not an easy one, but simple enough for someone of his caliber. He is to take this crappy ship, along with a shipment, to the exoplanet where the the better functioning ships are maintained and created. He and his crew will turn in this old junk ship for a sleek, modern one and move the shipment to it. Then on their way back, they will deliver it and return to Earth. Simple, they said. Child's play for a captain with so much experience. So it only makes sense for the best of the best to be assigned with him. Rose Lacroix. Her job is what is called 'the documenter'. She has no real purpose other than to keep track of supplies, as well as record daily minutes regarding every single thing that happens on board that is important to note. Due to her memory, she is considered the best to keep track of large quantities of items/the best to spot minor inconsistencies or things that are misplaced. She only needs to walk around a ship once to get it down properly. She has worked with Xander once before. Arturo Giles. The medic. He is apparently not new to this field despite being so young. He is usually quite unbearable and does not prefer to speak to his fellow employees, as most are deemed "too hideous". Despite his terrible personality, he is undeniably the best medic to have on a long assignment due to his quick efficiency. He claims that one day, the company will realize that he deserves better than what he has. (Despite being named the best medical employee.) He has worked with Rose twice, David once. J Moreno. The best mechanic for any ship, especially one as crap as the Fatebringer. When nothing needs to be fixed, she prefers to help out others if they need it (only if they deserve it, of course.) As much as she would prefer to stay on her own, she knows teamwork always comes first on long hauls. Her true identity is known to the company; they still put her actual name on all official documents and tech. She has to manually hide these things, as well as her ID card. Mariabella Rosales and XF-Ture collaborate a lot for financial purposes. She will advertise them with her existence/commercials/whatever, and they will pay her. And of course, never make J's employment public. If J weren't so good at what she does, they would not have cared. But they really like Mariabella's money so. As of now, Julia Rosales is considered MIA. David Chiem. Xander's co-pilot and good friend. David is usually the morale booster of his crews, always keeping spirits up and energy high despite the monotony of long hauls. He is usually who people will go to for advice or mental health discussions in place of the medic for two reasons: He cannot medically document anything, AND he is just such a fantastic listener! He always knows what to say! Xander and David have lost count of how many shipments they have done together. Teruko Tawaki. The stowaway of the Fatebringer who was not meant to be there. She was never meant to be there.

Teruko is usually assigned co-pilot. She has never worked with anyone else on the ship, so it is unclear whether or not her strange misfortune is known to any of them. Every ship she has ever been on has failed to bring their shipments on time- or at all. She has even seen crew members die in front of her. There have been near crashes, close calls...always when she is there. Nobody can terminate her. She has technically done nothing wrong, and firing her for no reason could mean a lawsuit or her spreading rumors about the company. So when Xander is given his assignment, he can only be dumbfounded when written in pen, he spots it. "Kill Teruko Tawaki. Find a way." And so Teruko is brought onto the ship, unconscious and hidden away. When she awakens, Xander will tell everyone that she is a surprise extra crew member. The excuse is that while she is usually co-piloting, XF-Ture is interested in having Teruko's skills expanded by having her shadowing the best of the best. Teruko, not remembering much, accepts this and trusts Xander. David's true personality is the same in canon: cold, cruel, manipulative. He feels threatened by Teruko's presence. After learning that her usual role is his, his theory is that she snuck onto the ship to prove she is better suited/to get him terminated. He treats her as normal UNTIL the crash. Xander is aware of Teruko's past jobs in vivid detail. He has been given reports, seen the documents...how much happens wherever she goes. He wants to get rid of her as soon as possible to keep the crew safe despite his guilt. Things go smoothly...until he receives word that XF-Ture is done for. It had only been two months, so what happened? The Rosales family suddenly stopped funding them, and everything crumbled after that. Nobody ever realized how much of their funding came from them. Xander felt mild relief. He truly does not want to kill a seemingly innocent woman for the company. After all, if she were truly responsible for any of those terrible things, they would have fired her with no hesitation. There must be a reason why she's still employed. But now they're all out of a job. What does that mean for them? Xander's mental health starts to plummet. Small things on board start to go wrong, and his first paranoid thought is to blame Teruko for being there. He becomes obsessed with reading over the reports from the crews that suffered in her presence. They were right; she's the cause. He confides in David, panicked and drained. Xander was a good man; far too good to kill anyone. Even if the people who told him to do so were technically no longer in charge of them...Teruko still needed to go. There's no reason to do the delivery, and there only thing they can really do is go to the exoplanet to swap out ships for a comfortable ride home. But with Teruko on board, there is no guarantee that they'll even get back to Earth. Xander tells him everything- too much. David decides that Teruko cannot make it back no matter what. Whatever field she gets to next will be riddled with destruction and possibly worse. Everyone here is at the top of XF-Ture, the best in a dead company. It is too late for any of them to climb to the top of another wage slave ladder. So he crashes the ship. Teruko Tawaki must die. If Xander cannot do it, he does not mind staining his filthy hands with more blood. What else happens? Who knows.

So yeah, I finished the drawing of Asha's redesign from Wish :D, maybe I'll make some changes in the future, but I'm happy to have finished it, it should be noted that I haven't seen the movie. , so I can't give my opinion on it yet, but I found it very interesting that their fandom is mainly made up of people who rewrote or made their own version of the movie, they are all very creative and it got me out of an artistic block. that I had a few months ago, but above all I found the rewriting of @annymation which is the one I have been most hooked on, so I wanted to do some redesigns of the characters coming out of its rewriting, that's why everything that has to do with the story of this version of Asha, as well as her personality and her world on which I base my drawing are the ideas and work of this account: @annymation

I'm just making a drawing of her character and how I would design her as well as sharing part of the process I had to do to draw her because, why not?

BOARD:

The first thing I had to do was put together a table full of references that reminded me of the character and things that I would like to add to her design, so I used milanote to do it:

-Looked for some Asha's concept art and save the ones I liked the most, and add the main colors that I used in the design. -I also created notes to write down the personality of the character and some of his data to have a better guide, I did a little research and found publications that talked a lot about Asha's discarded designs and how Disney workers had put that she had tribe ancestry Amazigh on his mother's side and since his father was from the Iberian Peninsula, that's why the next thing I wanted to do is research more about their culture. -I am not an expert on this topic, nor do I belong to the cultures from which Asha has ancestry, so you can comment on any correction regarding this topic, I wanted to implement details of this culture to her design and I would really like to give a correct representation :)

HAIRSTYLE

Continuing with the theme, I saw that the hairstyles in the Amazigh culture mostly had this type of colorful decorations on their braids and dreadlocks, that's why I also posted these reference photos for Asha's hairstyle.

-Finally I decided that Asha would not have all her hair full of braids or dreadlocks, but only a few accompanied by these decorations with a great variation of colors, although it was fun to sketch the many hairstyle options that I had in mind based on these concept art and other photos that I had saved

TATTOOS:

-Another detail that I liked was giving Asha some tattoos with designs from the Amazigh culture, because I saw that it was quite common for women to get them, the tattoo on her forehead is a symbol of protection against bad influences, that's why the The middle symbol is responsible for deflecting it in the 4 directions, I also added a similar one in Asha's right hand.

ASTROLOGY AND THE SPACE:

-An important part of Asha's rewrite is her knowledge of astronomy inherited from her father, especially with the stars for obvious reasons xd, so in addition to adding constellations to her dresses, research the meaning (or something like that) of the planets. Only 3 really reminded me of the character, which were: -Mars: Symbolization of the internal conquering function of moving forward, independent, self-determined, enduring failures with new energy, courage and energy to fight for your desires. -Saturn: Maturity, effort to solidly build realistic criteria, frustrations are transformed into objectives to continue growing, critical and realistic, far from getting frustrated when an objective does not work, you strive to move forward and obtain even more resistant and solid achievements, perseverance , and tenacity (I feel like yhis it the most similar to Asha :D) -Moon: protective role, feeling very vulnerable outside your known areas, feeling of security with your ties, importance of family ties. The one that reminded me the most of Asha was Saturn, that's why I drew those Saturn-shaped earrings :).

SUITS:

I looked for references and placed some on milanote, I noticed that the concept art was mainly divided into whether the dresses have lilac colors or warm colors, I decided to draw 2 models based on the discarded designs, although at first I thought of using only one color palette lilac and bluish, I realized that the reddish colors of her dress reminded me of Mars which has certain meanings that in my opinion coincide with Asha's personality. In the end I didn't decide what wardrobe she would primarily have 😅, but I like to think that in this version of Wish, Asha would have wardrobe and hairstyle changes like in some older Disney movies.

I am satisfied with the result, it was fun to make all this, although what I researched mostly seems little, it actually cost me several hours and I did it at night, so as a funny fact the next day I was explaining all this information to my mother and I felt like I looked like that:

Okok so I am in full full agreement with a majority of what you said, especially regarding the 3/4 switcharoo between Jean and Neil. Those two being, essentially, connected through every avenue (and the more I learn about Jean the more he and Neil do intertwine like...) down to their numbers and symbolism. I find that so so interesting. (Andrew and the number three I could go on about, too. And how he's woven into this, but I won't like gserjh) A little on Kevin's relationship with the Queen tattoo (as I see it.) before I go batshit in the tags on the number post because I won't be able to focus until I get this out (ADHD babyyyy):

I actually see Kevin's symbolism as the queen a rejection of that numerical hierarchy. He's erasing the number, the proposition that what people on the outside see as more important is... more important? If that makes sense. Like... most people would say the King is the most important piece on the board. And to a degree, it is! I'm far from a chess expert, but the Queen piece is typically designated as the most powerful piece on the board for its versatility and more aggressive movements. The King is in control on the surface, making very little movement but maintaining this semblance of control. The Queen is an active and diverse piece. Because the Queen can take the action of a rook or bishop, and the Queen is capable of a check. The Queen is capable of pulling a surprise move from its back pocket (like Kevin switching to his left hand) and is treasured for this element. I think it's more an explicit, "hey most of us assume the King is the best piece, but it's actually the Queen, who is often considered the second best piece."

Also, not to get hardcore into like... bleh sorry. So, in order to win a game against a lone king (and one could consider Riko the lone king), the Queen has to work with a King piece. Which I think could speak to Kevin's journey of finding a team he can work alongside, who match him pace for pace. He cannot win it on his own, but he is a powerful piece on the board. Historically, the Queen actually began with the least available movements, and slowly became more and more powerful with time. It's also very, very common to sacrifice one's Queen to win a game.

Sorry to go on a tangent, but the power of the Queen tattoo, I think, is more in Kevin rejecting the rigidity of the Raven's structure and what he's been taught about power and the hierarchy. It's a less symbolically powerful position, but it is the one that has the most play, power, and sway towards the course of a game. Correlate with Kevin not becoming the captain, happy to let Dan or Neil stay Captain, because it's less time on court. Practically, the Queen functions as a powerful piece, especially against the King who *appears* powerful but is actually very rigid and conforming in its movements and strategies.

The cool thing about literature is the different perspectives on a specific topic and seeing how it all correlates to one another. Everyone views one concept very different. The interesting thing about chess is being able to change a pawn into a powerful chess piece. Most of the times, they will change that piece into the queen since she is the most powerful on the board. That’s why Kevin changed his pawn piece into the queen, making him the most powerful and versatile on court (He’s not wrong).

In general, with chess, the best way way to win against a king is having two chess pieces that are playing with each other. Riko only wanted pawns and not expected anyone to turn themself into the queen (like Kevin) or the Knight (like Jean… I can go into why I think this in another post… I got thoughts on who is what piece tbh).

While I think everything you said about Kevin is true, I do think there is some conversation to be had about him covering his tattoo up rather than removing it because the ghost of the two is still there. He covered it up to symbolize exactly what you said (which I agree with) but has he fully moved on from that number? (Go read TGR. Do it. Now. Teehee) I do think he is heading towards fully rejecting but it takes time to heal from that sort of abuse that he had endured. To me, Kevin is still in limbo, but that has a lot to do with us not fully seeing his healing from what happened to him. By the end of the main trilogy, we haven’t seen a lot of healing on Kevin’s part apart from getting his tattoo covered.

RG Nano Review: The Only Device Worse Than Not Having One

It's been a while since I bought this device and even longer since Anbernic released the RG Nano. It's been about a year and a half since it came out so you can't really accuse me of being an early adopter. But I've been spending a lot of time with this device testing everything that I could and it's not great. I won't pretend there isn't anything good about it but I will tell you now that this device is near 100% novelty with 0% practicality.

The RG Nano for those that don't know if an emulation handheld made to play a myriad of emulators and their game files. In this regard the RG nano is actually very impressive capable of playing everything up to and including the PS1 with minimal to no issues. Which is beyond impressive for a device that is shorter than a cotton swab. But as is standard with Anbernic, and other companies producing these devices, they have long since given up on making the perfect device and have opted for making nearly perfect devices with several drawbacks. After all, if they sold you the perfect device what reason would you have to buy the one they release a month later? In the year since this device was made we've seen over 10 devices made from the same XX family of devices that all have the same internals with the only differences being the shell shape. I'm someone who has been a long time supporter of Anbernic but this past year and this device has made me change my mind. Enough about my growing discontent though, let's actually review it.

The Shape

There are several important factors that come in when designing a gaming device, especially a handheld. You need to account for screen size, portability, and comfort. The RG Nano is what happens when all of that is thrown out the window. The nano opted for the form factor of the DMG gameboy but with baxy buttons and two bumpers. The shell is metal with grooves for grip. The dpad is a single unit with sharp corners, the baxy buttons are incredibly small and hurt the thumb, the bumpers feel cheap and clicky similar to a 3d printed material, and I have no complaints about Start and Select. The top of the shell is a usb C out for power and data transfer, and it lights up when plugged in, very cool. The power button is small and sits almost flush with system in a receded pit in the device. This also functions as your menu. It's a single boot sd card slot, speaker on the bottom, and fake speaker lines on the bottom right of the device. No headphone jack but it came with a USB to headphone jack dongle.

Anbernic created this device during the peak of Mini emulator handhelds. The Funkey S had come out, a small clamshell emulator.

The q36 was a small game gear mini like device. Sega released its game gear minis, and the pocket sprite had released. All of these small devices did similar, they offered a wide suite of emulation tools made in the most portable form factors possible. Each one choosing a different shape. Technically the Funkey S was the smallest, followed by pocketsprite, rg nano, and then q36, and GKD Pixel. The main difference between each was mostly the shape and who was offering them.

When comparing the RG nano to its peers you can see one thing in common. All of them have better more comfortable shapes and bigger buttons. Playing on the nano is like repeatedly pressing on the end of a push pin. Sessions longer than 30 minutes will result in pain in your thumb and just a minute of play puts a tiny button indent in your thumb. Anbernic was concerned with going as small as possible and congrats, because there is 0 wasted space in its shell. This is the most cramped board I've ever seen and I worked in mobile device repair before becoming a YouTuber.

How this thing doesn't overheat is a mystery to me, I'm guessing the metal shell doubles as a heat sink. Anyway, since they opted for the smallest possible design they went with a square screen, and a vertical form factor. The q36 has the same screen size, but because it went vertical it's overall a much more comfortable shape. The buttons are bigger and every thumb has room to breathe and you have a better grip. Neither handheld is ideal for comfort but q36 is an example of Powkiddy doing the best with the assignment. Anbernic went with sacrificing comfort for novelty. Which is definitely an option. Don't worry though, give them a bit and I'm sure we'll get a nano H for horizontal.

Now about that screen, it's 1:1 square ratio. This square ratio can work great on larger devices like the RG Cube. Having a square screen means every system gets similar accommodations for it's shape. So everyone gets screwed over a little and results in a handheld that is horizontally smaller making it more portable. On smaller devices this means that anything with less than a square aspect ratio is going to be made even smaller. This means only Gameboy, Gameboy Color, NES, and SNES are going to fill out that screen nicely.

Meanwhile everything else is 4:3 or 3:2, leaving massive black bars at the top and bottom with the gameplay being shrunken even further than it's already miniscule monitor. You can choose to stretch the scaling but this will leave many characters look like they went through a taffy puller. 4:3 stretching isn't too bad, but 3:2 like the gameboy advance is horrendous. So despite being made for portability the GBA looks bad or just too small. You can optionally zoom with the shortcut select + right on d pad but this cuts off the edges. Other than that the screen is perfectly legible on emulators for handheld devices. But home systems had smaller sprites intended to be seen on TVs. So it's a big time squint fest. The brightness on the screen is great, maybe too high. The pictures I've shown have all been at 0% brightness but I wish it still went lower. I've been using this as a portable flashlight more than a gaming system because it's brighter than my phone.

The Firmware

Anbernic is as popular as it is because of how easy it is to set up out of the box. Most of the time these devices come loaded with thousands of games with emulators already set up. But these games are usually in Chinese, and they're numbered but not in alphabetical order making it impossible to find games on it. On this device that's pretty bad as in list view you can only see 4 game titles at a time. Have fun. But the firmware for this one is problematic. First issue is Anbernic used Funkey's open source operating system, fun key has said they're fine with that. But Anbernic didn't publicly release their version after which is scummy.

Anbernic has a long history of their OS' being outdone almost immediately after release by the community. This has led to anbernic getting lazy in recent years releasing devices with bad or buggy operating systems. In the Nano's case it boots to a clock first every time before booting into a launcher menu. This launcher menu looks like something you'd see on a nokia flip phone. Thankfully it has an alternate launcher you can get to by pressing power then going to "Set Launcher". Confirm with A then restart the device and you get something that looks more like their usual emulation station style launcher.

Now mine looks a little different, that's because I changed my OS to Funkey OS by Drum76. This is an OS that is much closer to Funkey's and is available for many mini devices. I don't normally switch my OS because before this Anbernic's Stock OS' have been fine. But on the Nano that annoying clock on every launch was annoying, but more annoying was my games wouldn't launch and sometimes my device wouldn't power on without multiple on/offs. I changed my OS to Drum's and everything works now. Sort of, now I get occasional flickering. Well, flickering is a step up from not turning on or launching. But now you can see where my title is starting to make a bit of sense. It gets worse though.

The Sound

Nothing major of note here, I'm not an audiophile but I'm not tone deaf. I prefer my music on vinyl, but at the same time I don't notice audio unless it's really bad. That said the speaker isn't the worst but there may be some latency on the sound. When playing Rhythm Tengoku Silver, a fan translation of the Rhythm Tengoku GBA. I'm pretty good at guitar hero, I can't play on expert but I can beat the majority of songs on hard. But on RTS I noticed my timing was worse than on my preferred device my Retroid Pocket 3+. On RP3 I was finishing Karate Man on first try, but on the nano I had to try multiple times. It wasn't until I plugged in my headphones that I was able to get almost a perfect. This could be blamed on the small buttons, the speaker, emulation, any number of things. Whatever it was, I wasn't playing my best. It was possibly the emulation as there is some pixelation when playing.

The Emulation

At first I thought this handheld was great. I tried the classic Yoshi's Island test and it worked fine despite the CPU being at 83% nearly the whole time. Double of what I was getting on PS1 emulation. But it ran fine, maybe it stutters aren't as noticeable on a small screen? What's the Yoshi's Island Test? This is a test Bob on Wulffden does. Yoshi's Island and some other select SNES games had a built in Super FX chip. This chip let Nintendo squeeze some extra power out of their SNES games. This let them do 3d. Yoshi's Island despite displaying minimal 3d absolutely makes the most of this chip. Maybe because so few games used it or maybe it really is that hard to emulate, either way many emulator handhelds can't run Yoshi's Island well. This is kind of common knowledge because many emulator handhelds that typically come with thousands of games seem to always forget Yoshi's Island. It was even able to run Goodboy Galaxy and that's a very recent GBA game made in 2023.

Anyway, it passed the YIT for me. So I decided to roll the dice and play random games. I got a game gear one, Sonic Chaos and started getting frequent slowdowns despite it being an 8 bit console. But everything runs pretty great or normally. Some ps1 games run at 30 fps but it's a consistent 30 and isn't as noticeable on the Squint Master.

The Game Feel

This is in it's own section because even devices that all run the same hardware and software can still handle games differently than others. The Retroid 2 is comparable to many devices but struggles with Dreamcast when others in it's price range don't for example. Probably because it's an Android device. But a lot of factors go into game feel, the hardware, firmware, the emulators, frame rate, the system size, buttons, individual taste, and yeah the RG nano may nail emulation for the most part but it is genuinely terrible to play on.

The screen is too small the majority of the systems it runs well play bad because of the added shrink from small aspect ratios. GBA suffering the most. Gameboy and GBC are great, perfect fits. But even the NES and SNES with their 10:9 screens are still terrible to play because their sprites are smaller. But they control poorly too as systems like PS1 and SNES have a lot of buttons. Yoshi's island runs but the sprites are so small and the buttons too. So it's hard to see but hard to platform too since the dpad is too small for previse movement. When playing Sonic Chaos I frequently had to try and jump to grab rings. One ring took me 5 jumps because I kept barely moving too much.

The machine is perfect for RPGs because they don't require precise controls and if they have a lot of buttons you at least have plenty of time to press it. Playing PS1 is nearly off limits as the nano lacks analog sticks, and L2 and R2 buttons. You can press Select + R to get R2. But say you're playing Chocobo's Dungeon 2, select is the map. So press R2 means opening your map first and then r2 not doing anything because you're on the map. Ps1 doesn't play too bad with a stretched resolution though.

There is only one use case I can think of that this is a good system. You really like Pokemon. It's turn based, clean text, doesn't require precise inputs, uses few buttons, it's a Pokemon machine. But anything else I played all had drawbacks.

Overall

The RG Nano is a perfect example of "Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should." Anbernic didn't need to ask "Why don't people make systems this small?" Because the answer is obvious, it's a terrible way to play. Now what I meant by the title. Playing this device made me want to play the other systems I own. Every game I thought "This would be better on the rg28xx" or "I miss my RP3". If I had to play nothing but this, I'd choose to not play anything. I'm not even joking. I'll go outside over playing this.

Get Literally Anything Else

Even if you account for it being the most portable handheld it's still pretty terrible because of its other issues.

RG28XX above, RG35XX H below

I'd recommend getting an RG28xx it's $30 and goes on sale frequently, the New model has wifi so you can use Retro Achievements. The rg28xx is also only slightly bigger than a micro but still much smaller than a GBA. Better D Pad, bigger buttons, has an r2 and l2, no analog though. The RG35xx H is a better 28xx with analog sticks but and both have hdmi out. Make sure you get the ones that say "New" in their name as they have Wifi.

The Miyoo Mini Plus is recommended by so many people and it's just 50 bucks.

Retroid Pocket 3+, my emu handheld of choice. Android based OS, touchscreen, plays everything from the DS and PSP and earlier. I've even played some Wii and Gamecube on it. But if you want 3ds, Gamecube, Wii U, Wii, and PS2 get RP4 Pro or 5.

If you're willing to go expensive get a Retroid system, they run on Android and it has quickly replaced my phone. When checking social media I don't even reach for my phone anymore. It just needs a camera and a sim slot. If you have literally any other emulation handheld the RG Nano feels like some obscure torture method by comparison. I can confidently say, if the RG Nano is the only emu handheld you can get then maybe it's time for a new hobby. Pick up hiking, rollerblading, skateboarding, boardgames or tabletops.

i have some tvd lore thoughts for you that i'm interested to pick your brain on. we've only really seen a couple of rippahs in the verse (stefan, lillian, mg) and while stefan's case was meant to be genetic due to lillian i do remember a speech alaric gave kaleb about why mg was predisposed to rippahdom that stuck in my mind and made me wonder... so what collection of traits do you think makes it more likely for a vampire to become a rippah and why do you think it might be?

To be fair, the 'verse itself was more interested in Stefan's ripperness than in any of the others, if maybe inconsistently. What it meant for Lily to be a ripper, outside of adding a genetic predisposition to Stefan's plight, was barely touched upon, with a mention about how her ~found family helped rein it in (social support being really important to combat addition); I think there could've been more done with Julian and Lily on this front, him being a clearly not-establishing-influence lol, but alas.

Meanwhile, with MG, there was little about it after season 1, to my recollection? That and his family subplot, which was sommething I found quite interesting, were cut out, to my disappointment. I would've preferred the show did something by following either of those threads than what it ended up writing for him for most of the show, tbh.

But in terms of personality MG and Stefan are definitely the closests of all we meet, so I'd go with them to identify any common traits that could lead to their affliction.

I'm hardly an expert on the matter, but something interesting is that although some of it fits, parts of what people most commonly use to identify an "addictive personality" in reality would not point at those two (basically, the ones related to noncomformity, lack of commitment to perceived achievements, etc. They would also not be the main examples in the 'verse someone would pick for things like impulsivity or alienation from their peers/the norm, for example). Which is a win on the Plecverse in my book, because although there's merit in the analysis, it's hardly a perfect predictive model (and it seems like it could conflate cause and effect in some cases?). They both have a tendency towards neurotic/negative emotions, which is where they fit in the hypothesis regarding addictive personalities.

It's funny because "agreeableness" (understood as a positive) seems to be considered something to be "low" in substance users across the board, but in my experience I've found that, if anything, too much of it, of people pleasingness, can make someone as vulnerable to addition as the willingness to be ~transgressive, if not more. I mention this one because I do see most of MG and Stefan's commonalities in this area, in what I perceive as their need to be liked and seen a certain way, while at the same time they showed certain weaknesses to personalities and influences like Damon's or Kaleb's that led them to follow down paths they outwardly disagreed with, showing that the tight leash they keep on things is because of how quickly they get out of control as soon as they slip, is very revealing as to what blend of traits could be what leads to a ripper spiral. It tracks with how for some vampires / drug users, following this metaphor, can indulge in it recreationally, or be high functioning, without following down that same path.

Moving away from addiction as the obvious, canon comparison, I've always wondered if comparing it to an eating disorder versus a healthy relationship with food would've been more apt, but I suppose it's not seen as equally ~impactful/dramatic/cinematic, and maybe rarer to be seen addressed on male characters. But it's something I think about regarding all rippers in question, especially when we've seen some of the home environments they were in before turning (disapproval from The Patriarch, also a ripper trigger? LOL), and the need for control in other areas that can manifest in those. It could tie with Stefan's alternation between binging and "starvation."
