i wanted to love this one, i really did... almost every other review i read for this book talked about how it changed their life, about how this is a new favourite. and for the first half—up until regan and aldo are having their six conversations—i was completely on board. i was fully expecting this book to be an easy four star read.

it's only when i got to the second half of the book did i realise how wrong i was...

everything changes so quickly—the prose becomes extremely purple and verbose and dense. every plot point is reduced to sex. they fuck when they're bored and they fuck when they're horny, when they're fighting and apologising and when they're sad.

the sentences become choppy and repetitive to show regan's manic state—and it's fine!! it works out well for like two or three pages but then it genuinely becomes so difficult to focus on and to enjoy.

all in all, i can tell this book was a labour of love, it just... didn't come across as well as the author intended. i wish it would have ended with the six conversations, i would have enjoyed it so much more that way :(

Thinking about how similar nicolibby and aldoregan are in so many ways 😭 even how Regan thinks her and Aldo’s love is a perfect circle because it’s always them and Nico knows his half will always follow hers. How Aldo tells Regan there’s nothing to fix and how Nico tells Libby that her morals aren’t what he loves about her/would love her even if her hands weren’t clean. Etc etc etc. They both make me insane. So many Olivie books/stories (including her YA ones) have so many common threads as nicolibby do it’s insane but I feel like this one means the most to me.

this ask is so dangerous to me u put aldoregan and nicolibby in the same sentence and i just 😵‍💫 olivie leans towards this dynamic (partly because she writes it well) and it makes me so sick to my stomach bc i love both ships separately and fiercely and they both did a number to my head for sure UGH now i’m gna be thinking about this for DAYS

So aldo damiani is a bee right?

Industrious, mindless, worker. Wings moving at 11,400 beats per minute. That's what makes him buzz. He's always thinking of math. He has strict routines, rituals, and repetition. He's putting together his honey comb. Hexagons. He calls Chicago a hive of people and talks about how bees are dumb and slow and cute and just part of one big mass (the people within the hive of Chicago).

And then he meets regan. And he puts together this new hexagon. Six corners, six sides, six conversations. And he's solving her like one of his problems and suddenly he is a bee that is no longer godless. He found something to worship. He found Regan.

aldo damiani is a bee that is no longer godless. He worships regan.

And of course that reverence is reciprocated but that's not what this post is about. This post was about aldo only and his love for regan. Not regan's for aldo.

Grace and Tommy from Peaky Blinders, they are my OTP, they would have been perfect to become the definition of a power couple if SK hadn't deprived them of that chance. I am currently working on a fanfiction about them.

Eliott and Lucas from Skam France, their presence shine through the whole series, and it's only because of them that season three became my favourite.

Aldo and Regan from Alone With You in the Ether, they made me understand how much more the world is than what I perceive and see of it, how much beauty there is in the little things, and that living with ourselves is the hardest and most beautiful task we could ever have in life.

Marc and Faythe from the Shifters book series, I loved how fiery they are, how passionate and unrestrained their love is, and how vibrant their chemistry is. I can't even blame them for their dump decisions. I'm currently re-reading the first book in the series.

Charlotte Regan, mais conhecida como apenas Regan, é uma falsificadora de arte bipolar entediada e mentirosa, e talvez uma artista, que vive em picos de mania e de depressão, mesmo que tenha sido condenada pelo tribunal a frequentar uma terapeuta e tomar seus remédios. Ela facilmente se cansa de rotina, trabalho e pessoas num geral.

Enquanto isso Aldo é um matemático teórico que está tentando terminar seu doutorado. É um péssimo professor, obcecado por abelhas e tenta resolver o mistério do tempo para ocupar sua mente.

Ela tem problemas com a mãe supercontroladora que critica absolutamente todos os aspectos da sua vida e cresceu gastando o dinheiro do pai. Ele tem apenas o pai, Masso, o chefe de cozinha, já que sua mãe o abandonou ainda bebê, mas ele é seu melhor amigo.

A vida dos dois parecia estar estagnada. Até que se encontram na galeria de arte em que Regan trabalha voluntariamente e Aldo costuma frequentar para conseguir pensar.

E em seis conversas, como as seis pontas de um hexágono, eles ficam obcecados um pela mente do outro.

Eles são um casal explosivo de opostos com personalidades completamente diferentes (e eu ainda tenho quase 100% de certeza de Rinaldo é autista) e entram de cabeça em um relacionamento em chamas.

Eu queria ter gostado mais desse livro, e apesar de ter odiado o paradoxo de Atlas, dei mais uma chance à autora, que de fato me conquistou nas primeiras partes do livro. Só que no final tudo se tornou cansativo e redundante. Era meio óbvio o rumo que a história tinha tomado, mas os protagonistas são realmente fascinantes e cativantes. A escrita é poética e um pouco cansativa, mas talvez vc consiga ficar obcecado por todo o enredo (eu fiquei por alguns dias).

É uma leitura que eu pretendo revisitar mais pra frente, porque acho que minha opinião sobre ele pode se modificar.
