Hello! I hope you are having a nice start to your week :) I seem to remember you recommending a certain tablet once and tried looking for it but couldn’t find it. Is there still one you recommend for art? I’ve got an ipad now but I was thinking of trying something different when it reaches the end of its days (but still hopefully a draw-on one). I think I’ve heard some tablets let you actually download programs and not just apps. I would love to just 1-time buy clip studio or something instead of the app subscription Dx
No worries if you don’t have a recommendation, I may have just misremembered. Either way, I hope you have a lovely evening and thanks for sharing your art! ^_^
Oh I can talk tablets for Hours don't even worry
I have a tablet that can download programs and that is this one right here!
Tumblr media
The Huion Kamvas Studio 22
It's been retired from Huion's store for a couple years now, succeeded by Huion's new Kamvas Studio 24; the new, sleeker edition of my 22.
If you're looking for a tablet that can download actual software and not just act as a second display for your computer, you'll be looking specifically for a "Pen Computer". Huion currently offers two - the Kamvas Studio 24 and the travel-sized Kamvas Studio 16. Both come with Windows 11 preinstalled.
Huion also released the Kamvas Slate 10, and while it is categorized as a pen computer, it's designed to compete with tablets like the iPad or PicassoTab and operates on Android 12.
While the idea of an independent computer you can draw on the screen of isn't at all novel, they're still arguably "new" for the companies whose target demographic is artists. At the time of this post, Huion appears to be Wacom's main and only competitor in that field. Artisul, Gaomon and XPpen do not manufacture them. Options for standalone drawing tablets that can download software [not just apps like a phone] are largely limited to:
Huion Kamvas Studio 16
Huion Kamvas Studio 22
Huion Kamvas Studio 24
Wacom MobileStudio Pro 13
Wacom MobileStudio Pro 16
I know I hype up Huion a lot and that's primarily because I have actual firsthand experience with their products, but I cannot stress enough that the Huion can do the job just as well as the Wacom. If you're hellbent on the Wacom, get it when it's on BIG sale, or cheaper secondhand / refurbished. Wacom's MobileStudio line can start at around ~$2600 USD and up, whereas the Huion Kamvas Studio, while still costly, can start from ~$1700 USD. I've seen Kamvas Studio 22s floating around for around $1000 USD which is already $500 off what I originally paid for mine.
Pen computers are one hell of an investment but they're extremely convenient to have. I'm currently saving up for a Kamvas Studio 16 as my travel laptop barely has the power to support Clip Studio and I want to be able to take my work on the go without fumbling around with cords.
To anyone else reading: if I somehow missed the release of a pen computer from another art tablet brand, feel free to drop it in the replies! I'm usually on top of these but I've been so swamped with work the past two months I've barely enough time to check my social media most days lmao

Iris Apfel was finally recognised as a great, original fashion stylist in her 80s, when the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum in New York had a sudden gap in its 2005 exhibition schedule. Many curators knew Apfel, who has died aged 102, as a collector stashing away clothes, especially costume jewellery, both couture-high and street-market-low, so the institute asked to borrow some of her thousands of pieces.
When Apfel wore them herself, dozens at a time in ensembles collaged fresh daily, they had zingy pzazz, so she was invited to set up the displays. There was no publicity budget, and her name was modestly known only in the interior decor trade, yet the show, Rara Avis: Selections from the Iris Apfel Collection, became a huge success after visitors promoted it online. It toured other American museums, changing exhibits en route because Apfel wanted her stuff back so she could wear it.
Apfel’s grandfather had been a master tailor in Russia; her father, Samuel Barrel, supplied mirrors to smart decorators; her chic mother, Sadye (nee Asofsky), had a fashion shop. They lived out in rural Astoria, in the Queens borough of New York, where Iris was born.
As a child, her treat was a weekly subway trip to Manhattan to explore its shops, her favourites the junk emporia of Greenwich Village. She was short, plain and, until her teen years, plump, but she had style; and the owner of a Brooklyn department store picked her out of a crowd to tell her so. During the Depression all her family could sew, drape, glue, paint and otherwise create the look of a room, or a person, on a budget of cents – the best of educations.
She studied art history at New York University, then qualified to teach and did so briefly in Wisconsin before fleeing back to New York to work on Women’s Wear Daily. Furniture and fabrics were in short supply during and after the second world war, and Iris began to earn by sourcing antiques and textiles; if she could not find it, she could make or fake it cheaply.
In 1948 she married Carl Apfel, and they became a decorating team: he had the head for business and she the eye. Unable to find cloth appropriate to a period decor, Iris adapted a design from an old piece and had it woven in a friend’s family mill; she and Carl then set up Old World Weavers in 1952, commissioning traditional makers around the globe.
Photographs and home-movie footage from the next four decades showed Apfel, adorned with elan, haggling for one-off items in souks, flea markets and bric-a-brac shops. She is the most decorative sight in each shot, her ensembles put together with complex cadenzas atop an underlying, tailored, structure– they are like jazz – not a statement, but a conversation.
Apfel was the last of those 20th-century fashion exotics who presented themselves as installations. Although she wore a priest’s warm tunic to the White House (President Richard Nixon underheated the place), plus armfuls of cheap African bracelets and thigh-high boots, she was not an exhibitionist like the Marchesa Casati, and, with her vaudevillian comic timing, was far funnier than the imperious Vogue editor Diana Vreeland.
Also, she never ever bought full-price: her many rails and under-the-bed suitcases of couture were sale-price samples, chosen for their cut, fabric, skilled craftwork and colour dazzle (“Colour can raise the dead”). She might wear them over thrift shop pyjamas, or under a Peking Opera costume, with hawsers of necklaces atop. Money could not buy personal style, she said, prettiness withered, beauty could corrode the soul. All that really mattered was “attitude, attitude, attitude”.
Old World Weavers discreetly refurbished the White House under nine presidents, as well as grand hotels and private houses, before the Apfels sold the company in 1992. They retired to a quiet life in their apartment on Park Avenue, New York, its decor an extension of Apfel’s outfits (bad garment choices were cut up for cushions), and in a Palm Beach holiday home where the Christmas decoration collection stayed up all year round, along with cuddly toys and museum-class folk art. Clothes shopping, and the improvisation of an outfit, became Apfel’s daily ritual, as cooking might be to a gourmet.
But after the Met show, and a book, Rare Bird of Fashion (2007), Apfel was back in as much full-time employment as she could manage in her 80s and 90s (she had a hip replacement because she fell after stepping on an Oscar de la Renta gown). She was cover girl of Dazed and Confused, among many other publications, window display artist at Bergdorf Goodman, designer and design consultant – superb on eye-glasses; she wore large, owl-like, frames to stylise her aged face into a witty, unchanging, cartoon.
She took seriously her responsibilities to fashion students on her course at the University of Texas, teaching them about imagination, craft and tangible pleasures in a world of images.
Her career lasted – nothing was ever too late: in 2018, Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon, a book of memoir and sound style advice; in 2019, a contract with the model agency IMG; and last year, a beauty campaign for makeup with Ciaté London. The documentarian Albert Maysles trailed her for Iris (2014), filming this “geriatric starlet” – her term – as she dealt drolly with new high-fashion friends, or laughed at an “Iris” Halloween costume (glasses, a ton of bangles).
She watched as a storage loft of her antique treasures was listed in lots for sale, and as white-gloved assistants from museums that had begged a bequest boxed up her garments; she still had, and wore, the shoes from her wedding. All things, she said, were only on loan in this world, even to collectors. The point was to enjoy them to the full before bidding them good-bye.
Carl died in 2015.

So this week in “the universe makes a concerted effort to give me more panic attacks”:
- my sewing machine has broken for the second time this month. Last time it fixed itself. This time it will not. Tried replacing the plug in just in case it wasn’t the whole machine - no good
- went hunting for mother’s sewing machine, which needs an extra huge transformer to be plugged in in this country without burning down the house
- found mother’s machine. No transformer. Pooled the family brain trust. The transformer may have been thrown out (mother’s machine also despises me and was why I never picked up sewing again for a decade)
- partner’s mother’s sewing machine is 3 hours drive away each way, and they do not currently have anywhere we can stay over while retrieving it (this machine also HATES me and will not sew for more than 2 inches without jumping)
- we have at least 3 costumes to finish by mid May, all of which are at least 6 different garments - and another 2 by mid June
- my disabled ass has finished two costumes in May before, both much smaller and I nearly died
- just found out I need to entirely redo the lining on one of them from scratch because one of my panels was too small but I trimmed the goddamn seams early to try and french seam the fraying fuck
- for some ungodly reason the embroidery thread I was using to try and make a lil doll face is bleeding black dye across the fabric that will not wash out
- just found out I’m not getting anymore billable hours at work, possibly until mid April
- my insurance company has now decided to stop covering half my meds up front, correctly deducing that it’s gonna be way harder for me to submit receipts for reimbursement because their online portal is a hellscape. Unrelated to sewing crisis, just not helping
Fortunately I do not stand alone against said universe and between us partner and I were able to sneak in on a huge sale today and afford an actual new sewing machine, which can be repaired by the shop we bought it from if it also dies
(If we’d waited another 2 days no chance we could not have afforded it, woulda had to get a dinky baby machine and hope it was as powered by dark gods as the last one or go thrifting
One friend who went to sewing school has told me multiple times my previous machine should not exist (sewed 8 layers of insulated padding on tension setting 2) - the model is completely discontinued and I couldn’t even find refurbished
Another friend has now acquired 3 thrift/given machines, none of which actually work and are all missing parts
This was somehow literally the best week this could have happened if it had to happen at all)
So yeah hyperventilating still happened but I am learning new tricks to stop that and didn’t get a full blown panic attack, we remain triumphant
And we made pancake cookies

Report: Eddie Redmayne’s lengthy commitment to Cabaret on Broadway — and its whopping budget
Tumblr media
A exclusive report today from Philip Boroff and his Broadway Journal says Eddie Redmayne is committing to an expensive New York production of Cabaret for six months. ‘CABARET’ IS COSTLIEST BROADWAY REVIVAL
by Philip Boroff
EXCLUSIVE: Investing in Cabaret  at the August Wilson Theatre this spring might seem like a safe bet, after the success of the Kander & Ebb classic in London and earlier productions in New York.
That's until you see the price tag: $24.25 million, a record for a Broadway revival.
Broadway Journal reviewed a preliminary budget and recoupment chart for the transfer from the West End, which is being presented by the multinational theater operator and producer Ambassador Theatre Group and U.K.-based Underbelly, which creates shows and festivals. Tony and Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Kit Kat Club emcee on Broadway.
Revivals of musicals by John Kander and Fred Ebb have been golden on Broadway, particularly the concert version of Chicago, now in its 27th year; and two Roundabout Theatre Co. engagements of Cabaret. This production, which follows several new musicals into the financial stratosphere, needs to be a smash to repay investors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cabaret‘s largest line item is its $9.4 million physical production. That includes millions from investors to transform the August Wilson into a Weimar-era nightclub, designed by Tom Scutt, where the show will be performed for an audience of about 1050. (There’s also a pre-show with actors and musicians interacting with the audience.) Another $1.5 million is allocated for a “refurbishment reserve,” presumably for cost overruns. A production spokesman declined to comment for this story.
For the 2021 premiere, Ambassador Theatre Group paid most of the expense of renovating London’s Playhouse Theatre (where the show’s performed in the round), someone familiar with the production said. As is standard in the industry, backers benefit from the sale of tickets but don’t share in revenue from drinks or food.
The New York production is what’s known as a related-party transaction: ATG is both producer and landlord. It recently bought a majority stake in the August Wilson along with Jujamcyn Theaters’ four other Broadway venues.
One of the busiest players on Broadway, ATG and subsidiary Sonia Friedman Productions are producing four of the 16 plays and musicals opening this season through December: The Shark is Broken, Gutenberg! The Musical!, Merrily We Roll Along and Appropriate (with Second Stage Theater). It’s controlled by Providence Equity Partners, a mammoth private equity manager that buys companies with the eventual aim of reselling them at a profit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cabaret must thrive to survive, requiring a weekly $1.2 million at the box office to pay its bills. That’s one of the biggest nuts on Broadway, even more than the time-travel spectacle Back to the Future projected in its recoupment chart. Back to the Future‘s home, the Winter Garden Theatre, has about 50 percent more seats than the reconfigured August Wilson, which will lose about 200 seats in the renovation.
Investing may be most appealing for patrons who prioritize backing a prestigious and artful show (and a leading Tony contender) over return on investment. Rebecca Frecknall’s dark revival won seven Olivier Awards last year in London, including for Redmayne. He’s committed to reprising his role for six months, two people familiar with the production said. ATG and Underbelly haven’t disclosed details about the transfer, including casting.
When it opened in London in 2021, Cabaret got flak on social media for its prices, now as much as £375 (equivalent to about $465, which includes a light three-course meal and champagne). Producers have told investors that the show played to 96 percent occupancy through July, with the highest average ticket price in London.
Broadway seats may be costlier. The average ticket at 110 percent capacity of the August Wilson — i.e. with premium pricing — is projected to be $248. That’s approaching Hamilton in its peak years, when it was charging as much as $849 a ticket.
If Cabaret can command that $248 average and sell out — grossing $2.1 million a week — recoupment will take about a year. (Hamilton, which cost half as much as Cabaret and has low running costs, was distributing profits six months after opening night.)
By selling out with an average ticket of $176 — Sweeney Todd  territory — Cabaret‘s recoupment would take closer to two and a half years.  With an average ticket of $158 — $1.3 million a week — recoupment would take four and a half years. (Projections in this story are based on recouping $20.9 million, which excludes Cabaret‘s reserves, deposits and advances; and receiving a $3 million state production tax credit, which can take years to get to investors. If the show dips into reserves during construction or the run, recouping may take longer.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Musical revivals have gotten ever-pricier to produce, but none has approached Cabaret. For example, Sweeney Todd was capitalized at $14.5 million and appears to be on track to recoup later this fall, after about 33 weeks. Hello, Dolly! was capitalized at $16 million in 2017 (about $20 million today) and earned a small profit; last year’s $16.5 million Funny Girl  recouped and is expected to make a profit.
Shows that required extensive renovations have a mixed record. Most recently, Here Lies Love, the $22 million disco-themed historical drama around the corner from the August Wilson, is struggling at the box office; whereas Harry Potter appears to be enjoying a long life in ATG’s souped-up Lyric Theatre, after producers trimmed the two-part show to one. But it arrived from London at considerable expense. In addition to Harry Potter’s $35.5 million capitalization, ATG, which competed against other landlords for the play, spent tens of millions of dollars clearing out and renovating the Lyric, Michael Paulson reported in the New York Times.
Revivals are typically short-lived, Cabaret as well as Chicago being obvious exceptions. The Roundabout Cabaret revival directed by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall opened at the Henry Miller’s Theatre in 1998 and ran through 2004. It initially starred Alan Cumming, who stepped in again when the Roundabout revisited the revival in 2014.
Two decades ago, the Roundabout bought its revival’s most recent home, Studio 54. The nonprofit company, with help from the city of New York, paid $22.5 million for the real estate, which looks like a bargain today.

Market Report on Vertical Farming Products: Understanding Size, Share, and Growth Trajectories
The global vertical farming market size is expected to reach USD USD 24.95 billion by 2030, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. It is expected to expand at a CAGR of 20.1% from 2023 to 2030. Increased use of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors for producing crops is likely to spur market demand over the forecast period. Information obtained from the sensors is stored on the cloud and analyzed to perform the required actions. The growing automation in agriculture and increasing use of big data and predictive analytics for maximizing yields are also likely to drive the market.
Vertical farming is effective in ensuring stability in crop production and maintaining reliability even in adverse climatic conditions. It provides multiple benefits over the traditional farming technique, such as less use of water, the lesser need for agrochemicals, and low dependence on agricultural labor. Vertical farming makes use of metal reflectors and artificial lighting to maximize natural sunlight.
Genetically modified organisms and the environmental and health effects of pesticides and other non-natural substances that are used for increasing agricultural production have encouraged consumers to adopt organic foods. According to the Organic Trade Association, the U.S. organic industry sales increased by around 5% in 2019 owing to the increased investment in infrastructure and education. As per the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990, the handlers and growers of organic products need to comply with the regulations.
Artificial lighting helps in extending the hours of natural daylight, which further increases the health, growth rate, and yield of the plants. Artificial lighting such as high-pressure sodium lighting and LED lighting can extend the availability of crops (throughout a season). LED lighting systems produce a dual-band color spectrum and generate low heat. They are anticipated to witness significant growth over the forecast period.
A hydroponic system is a method of growing plants without soil. A hydroponic system eliminates the need for pesticides and artificial ripening agents and helps in producing nutritionally-rich vegetables. However, factors such as high initial investment and fewer crop varieties are likely to restrain the market growth.

Sustainable Furniture Manufacturing in the USA
Tumblr media
In today’s world, sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity, especially in industries like furniture manufacturing. As consumers become more conscious of their environmental impact, the demand for sustainable furniture has surged. This shift has prompted many U.S. manufacturers to adopt eco-friendly practices, ensuring that the furniture industry contributes positively to the planet.
Why Sustainability Matters in Furniture Manufacturing
Sustainable furniture manufacturing is about creating products that minimize environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. This includes using responsibly sourced materials, reducing waste, and ensuring that production processes are energy-efficient. The benefits of sustainable manufacturing are manifold:
Environmental Protection: Sustainable practices help in reducing deforestation, pollution, and carbon emissions.
Consumer Demand: There is a growing market for eco-friendly products, with many consumers willing to pay a premium for sustainably produced furniture.
Regulatory Compliance: Many U.S. states have introduced regulations that encourage or even mandate sustainable practices.
Tumblr media
Key Trends in Sustainable Furniture Manufacturing
Several trends are shaping the future of sustainable furniture manufacturing in the U.S.:
Use of Recycled and Reclaimed Materials: Manufacturers are increasingly using recycled wood, metal, and textiles to reduce reliance on virgin materials. This not only conserves natural resources but also reduces waste.
Energy-Efficient Production: Many companies are investing in energy-efficient machinery and renewable energy sources like solar and wind power to reduce their carbon footprint.
Circular Economy Models: The circular economy is gaining traction, where furniture is designed to be reused, refurbished, or recycled at the end of its life, reducing waste and conserving resources.
Non-Toxic Finishes: There is a shift towards using non-toxic paints, stains, and finishes that do not emit harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds), making furniture safer for both consumers and the environment.
Case Study: Sustainable Success
Let’s take the example of a small furniture company that partnered with a local manufacturer through Maker’s Row. By using reclaimed wood and non-toxic finishes, they were able to produce a line of eco-friendly furniture that resonated with their target market. Not only did they reduce their environmental impact, but they also saw a significant increase in sales, proving that sustainability is good for both the planet and business.
The Future of Sustainable Furniture Manufacturing
The future of sustainable furniture manufacturing in the U.S. looks promising. With ongoing innovations and a growing commitment to eco-friendly practices, the industry is well-positioned to meet the demands of conscious consumers. By prioritizing sustainability, U.S. manufacturers can lead the way in creating a greener future.
Sustainable furniture manufacturing is not just about producing beautiful, functional products. It’s about making choices that protect the environment and meet the evolving needs of consumers. By partnering with platforms like Maker’s Row, businesses can find the right manufacturers to create furniture that is both stylish and sustainable.

Chemical Romance
Loosely inspired by @justplainwhump's story Pet Safety. In Pet Safety, the MC drops some details that suggest Romantics in their universe can be chemically altered to need another person nearby. I thought this was a brilliant idea and ran with it for a short story (that I haven't really edited or revised, fuck it we ball).
Summary: After countless trials and many failed experiments, X001 is the first chemically-altered Romantic available for sale. The scientist responsible watches over his subject as she is introduced to her buyer - and carefully-tailored chemical match - for the first time. X001 soon learns what it's like to need someone more than she needs life itself.
CW: institutionalized slavery, implied medical whump, chemical modifications, fade to black noncon/dubcon
X001 knelt patiently on the plush carpet beside the chaise. She could sense that her handler wasn’t quite as patient, particularly with the way he kept twisting the leash between his fingers, a gentle tug on her collar each time.
Perhaps her handler was just as excited as she was. Not just excited, but nervous. X001 hadn’t been this nervous since her first days in training. Today she was going to meet her new owner, her Master, the very person she had been working so hard to learn how to please. A chill ran up X001’s spine, a sensation she was barely able to swallow down. She couldn’t let her nerves show, not now, not when it mattered the most.
Voices murmured outside the door, warm words running together, the comforting hum of idle conversation. No commands came for her, not yet. X001 was certain if there was a command, she wouldn’t miss it. Every sense was attuned to her handler, and soon, to her Master. Her handler had told X001 that if her new Master was satisfied with their trial, she would get to go home with them.
Home was what she had been working so hard towards, wasn’t it? It's what she was made for.
---
“As you can see, ’01 is a physically spectacular specimen,” Val said as he gestured towards the one-way glass. The girl knelt unmoving where she was nestled in the thick pile of the carpet, her posture perfect, and her brilliant green eyes fixed glassily on some distant point. As unflattering as the training facility uniforms could be, it was hard to mistake the delicacy of her petite figure, and impossible to tear one’s eyes from the thick russet curls that cascaded down her shoulders.
At least, that’s what Val had been told to regurgitate from the facility’s marketing materials.
“That’s why I chose her,” the buyer said, his gaze transfixed on the subject, not once turning his attention back to Val.
Perhaps Val would have been irritated if he was in marketing. But that wasn't his business, never had been. He continued, unbothered.
“As you’ve surely been reminded by the purchasing agent, X001 is the first product available for sale with these particular modifications. Although our experimental models have shown great success and promise, there is no guarantee that X001 will perform to specifications.” Val also regurgitated this, all but verbatim, from the materials he’d been given. He wasn’t a salesman, no, he was a scientist.
It had been years of hard work and tireless nights. It had been dozens of destroyed products, specimens that were ruined beyond refurbishment, and millions of dollars of company money poured into equipment and supplies. It had been begging his superiors for another chance, promising them that he would make the company's next cash cow.
Eventually, it had also been a success.
“I hear you,” the buyer said, the patience in his voice slipping. “I’ve been told that same thing at least ten times now. I think it's worth the risk, especially for a pretty thing like that.”
Val’s grip on his pen tightened. He’d waited for this moment for many months now, and it was finally here. It was time to prove himself.
His heart thundered inside his chest, and Val nodded to himself as much as the buyer.
“Very well. Are you ready for your trial to begin?”
Lust dripped from the buyer’s tongue as he answered.
“Absolutely.”
---
A clicking tone came through the intercom, a sound which seemed to signal something to X001’s handler. She didn’t move as he unclipped the leash from the ring on her collar and pulled away. He took a single step, then paused, and she felt his hand rest gently on the top of her head.
“Remember your training. Don’t disappoint me, ’01.”
“Yes, sir.” The demure whisper was one she’d practiced until she’d become hoarse, but today, it was as smooth as honey. X001 was merely grateful it hadn’t cracked under the nerves that strained her body.
The comfort of the hand disappeared. Her handler exited the room, leash in hand, leaving X001 alone.
She knew what came next. It would settle in her stomach within the next thirty seconds, and over the course of five minutes, it would buzz throughout her body like electricity. That insatiable longing, the primal need to be close to a human person, would begin to broil to the surface. Her skin would get covered in gooseflesh, like she had been plunged into an ice bath.
To be isolated like this, utterly alone in a room, would slowly become agony.
X001 thought back briefly to the time before her body had been weaponized. Early in training, before she’d been dragged to the medical wing every morning for new injections and infusions, she hadn’t felt like this. She could be alone in her cell for hours, sometimes days, and be perfectly content with the solitude. Not just content, but grateful.
That had changed, though, and she didn’t know why. They'd done something. Something she'd never have the privilege of understanding.
All X001 did know was that she needed someone. She needed them now, at her side, before the pain in her chest became unbearable. Her handler, a different handler, her Master. Anyone would be enough to settle the unease.
---
“As you can see,” Val explained as gestured towards the subject that sat beyond the glass, “we’ve engineered a nervous response upon isolation from human contact.”
It had hardly been a minute since Handler Jones had left the room, and already X001 was trembling where she knelt. Muscles strained beneath her supple, tanned skin; her effort was apparent as she tried to keep still. Those stunning green eyes, once unblinking, now fluttered nervously.
The warmth in his stomach spread as he watched his experiment succeed, fulfilling his decade of promises to his superiors. Val continued his explanation eagerly.
“Part of this response is conditioning, and part of it is the chemical manipulation I discussed earlier. Her very brain chemistry and nervous system function have been altered to make her not just crave human contact, but require it for survival. The moment you walk in, you should notice her relax. She’ll be inseparable from you. Even in her sleep she’ll reach out for you, her body telling her that she needs your touch.”
The buyer hummed beneath his breath, and he watched ’01 tremble with a languid smile.
“And what if I do leave her alone?”
“That, sir, would be one of the most painful things you could do to her.”
---
Seconds became minutes, and the aching in X001’s chest mounted. Her heart fluttered uncontrollably, her muscles ached, and her head spun. Her training slipped away so easily when she got like this, when she was alone. The only thought she could hold on to was the thought of touching someone, curling up against their body, sinking against their naked skin. It was the only cure for her present sickness.
She dug her fingernails into the soft skin of her palms. Her hands were still folded neatly in front of her, but the subtle flexing gave her something to distract from the pain wracking her body.
No, it wasn’t pain, not exactly. She knew pain, she’d grown accustomed to it. This sensation was need. It was like thirst, or hunger, or desperation for air. Every part of her thrummed in its cadence.
Then the door handle clicked open.
It took all of X001’s training not to throw herself at the man who’d walked into the room. In an instant the discomfort in her body began to ebb, but the fluttering of her heart continued. She wanted to be touched, held, comforted. It was the only cure for the ache deep in her bones.
Although she hadn’t looked up at the man’s face – she wasn’t permitted to – she was drawn in by the intricate designs on his well-polished shoes. The well-tailored pants and unscuffed leather dripped with and air luxury, and a scent of burnt vanilla and whiskey seemed to follow as he entered.
The man sat down on the chaise beside X001, and she had to clench her teeth to stop from leaning into him. Her handler had made it incredibly clear that she was to remain in position, as perfect as she had been trained, until she was granted reprieve. She listened attentively, straining for the sound of a command, hearing as he settled into the soft plush of the furniture, then-
“Release. Come up here with me.”
X001 didn’t need to be told twice.
---
Val couldn’t help but smile, his cheeks aching as he watched years of work pay off before his eyes. ’01 slunk up onto the couch with that effortless fluidity all Romantics were trained in. She slid into the spot beside the buyer’s body, already cozy against his chest without a moment of hesitation. Her chin tucked against his collarbone, her nose buried against his neck, and her body shifted with a deep sigh.
“Shit, she never had this reaction with the test sticks you had us use in training,” Handler Jones said with disbelief.
“That was a very low dose of the buyer’s pheromones,” Val explained, attention only partially on the handler. A mere handler could never understand the beauty and complexity of what was unfolding beyond the glass. “She’s never been given unrestricted access to the source. It must be overwhelming her.”
“Bitch better be able to remember what we’ve worked on these last few months,” the handler grumbled.
If she couldn’t, Val wouldn’t be surprised. The experimental models had been almost delirious when they were first introduced to their chemically engineered pheromone match. This had been the most successful of the chemical alterations he had been pioneering, and X001 was absolute proof of that.
All humans had this reaction, at least, to some extent. Despite having some of the weakest noses in the animal kingdom, the human body still sends messages to other humans in smelling distance. And in these messages the body conveys arousal, genetic compatibility, and desire.
What Val had done was nothing more than play with these senses inside a laboratory's sandbox. It had taken a couple of years of development and chemical tweaking, but Val had finally developed a course of treatments that would make the buyer’s scent irresistible to the product. The treatments overrode the product’s innate senses, the natural desire to find genetic compatibility, something that only the subconscious animal mind could know.
A few weeks of daily injections and that innate instinct was overwritten. The product's true nature had been wiped out, replaced instead with the extact chemical makeup of their new buyer. The scent of the buyer would be irresistible, intoxicating. It would immediately invoke lust, and when coupled with a Romantic's conditioning, it would naturally create the ideal product.
The waitlist for chemically-altered Romantics had already surpassed the waitlist for standard-issue Romantics. After all, who wouldn't want their perfect match, a divine creature that believed in its animal mind that its owner was its perfect match?
---
X001 had never experienced anything like it before. The scent flooding her senses was not merely sweet. Sweetness was something found in baked goods, or the treats that her handler snuck her when she was performing well. This was ambrosia, a full-body sensation that drew her ever-closer to the man on the chaise. It was like the space beside him had been built just for her.
No matter how close she drew herself to the man’s skin, she couldn’t get enough. It was all she could do not to drag her tongue across the hot flesh. She was burning with need, the urge to sink deep into him and never leave.
Hands ran through her hair, across her hips, but she hardly felt them. Instincts from her training took over and she let them move her body. All she cared about was getting closer, her skin warm with the desire for contact with his. All of X001’s instincts were filling her with the need to be with the man, a need even greater than her own need to breathe. It was beyond intoxicating.
Relief and pleasure coalesced as his smooth hands grabbed her hair, her waist, her neck. Bliss. Relief. The understanding in her mind that this was her purpose, and this man is exactly who she was meant for.
If this was truly her Master, she couldn’t imagine anything better.
---
"Hey, labcoat, isn't your job here done?" Handler Jones asked as the buyer began the more intimate engagements of his trial run with X001.
Val pursed his lips and reclined in the seat in front of the one-way mirror.
"I'd like to see the fruits of my labor in action. You've worked in X001 for what, four months? I've worked on this project for more than nine years. This is my moment, my success."
"Whatever you say, man," Handler Jones muttered. "Call me when the bitch has had her fun. I've got two new trainees to worry about, no need for me to watch the show."
Val merely waived the handler off. Solitude is what he needed now, the opportunity to bask in his own success. After all, he deserved it.
No, the thought idly as a grin crept onto his face, I deserve one of these for myself.

Any headcanons on the characters' future lives/careers? (I know it's not a very fresh question, but I can't think of anything right now 😵‍💫, hopefully this starts an interesting discussion)
Aw, that's okay, Mystic! I appreciate you sending something in regardless! Seems to be the case all around this week, and that's totally fine!
As for their careers, I have lots of thoughts on their older lives and/or careers! In fact, that's a lot of what "In a Sky of a Million Stars," is about! It follows Eddy mostly, but we do get to see where the other kids are headed too!
Under the cut for length~
Ed I can absolutely see as one of those artists that makes a killing selling his art online. Here's the fun twist I have for Ed though, he's a furry artist. The general consensus I've seen online is that good furry artists an make a lot of money because the furry community is so good to artists! Oddly enough, out of the three Eds I see him being the most successful because he's able to do something that he loves to do, and eventually he might land a big gig for a comic book company or an animator or something.
Edd is a little more unsure of his future. After high school he jumps right into a community college, but he's always changing his degree path. Mathematician, Chemist, Biologist, all Edd knows is he wants to go into a career where he can use his profuse knowledge to better humanity. I think eventually he would end up working at the lab he interns for.
Eddy I'll keep general because his adult life is what Stars is about, but he's the most unsure of himself in the future of the three banditos. He doesn't want to go to school again and he certainly doesn't want to have to actually work for his money... disgusting. But such is the way of life. He has a few small retail jobs for a while and hates every minute of them, but it's a job. I think eventually he'd be good at car sales or business pitches... cliché I know.
Kevin I could see working as a mechanical engineer, or even owning a motorcycle repair shop somewhere. He'd be ecstatic to get to repair and refurbish other people's bikes.
Rolf, of course, takes over his family's farm so his parents can retire. Also very cliché but honestly he's been doing that already as a kid.
I can see Jimmy and Sarah partnering together to make their own fashion brand! Like, maybe it's something small they do while going to college but they made a few things that caught the attention of someone big, and now it's a thing!
Nazz I can see being a teacher! I think that one's a well-shared headcanon, but it makes so much sense.
Jonny I can see working in nature somewhere. A botanist, a conservationist, or even just a trail guide or park ranger.
Lee and Marie I can absolutely see being sex workers. May is a harder one though because out of the three Kankers, she seems the least likely to fall into that line of work. With her, I honestly don't know.
And let's be real, Eddy's Bro will forever work at that damn carnival, probably picking up garbage like the trash he is.

What Is Vehicle Remarketing?
Tumblr media
Vehicle remarketing is a type of business that includes selling and buying used vehicles. In other words, it is known as the controlled disposal or circulation of the fleet of rental or company vehicles that have passed their end terms. A lot of people get confused about vehicle remarketing with vehicle reselling and think they are the same thing. But it is not because vehicle remarketing is a business that usually deals with a large fleet of vehicles which requires large fleet operators. Moreover, vehicle remarketing involves refurbishing the fleet of vehicles and selling the used vehicles again in the market.
Now, you might wonder why vehicle remarketing is so important. Well, here you will get the answer to that question.
Why Is Vehicle Remarketing So Important In 2022?
If you own a vehicle and want to sell it, then it is obvious that you want the highest possible price you can get from it. And vehicle remarketing is one of the best way to get the highest possible return.
The value of the vehicle is more if the vehicle’s portfolio is great. And vehicle remarketing helps in moving your inventory quickly and more cost-effectively, which as a result, elevates the value of the vehicle’s portfolio.
Sometimes it is possible that after putting the vehicle up for sale, it might not be picked up for years. But, vehicle remarketing speed up the procedures and shortens the turnaround time.
The management of multiple providers is very important. And development and implementation of an effective marketing strategy is a part of the vehicle remarketing solution, which makes it easy to manage multiple providers.
Now you might wonder how vehicle remarketing works. Well, here is how
How Does Vehicle Remarketing Work?
Step-1
The first step in vehicle remarketing is choosing a channel. Choosing a good channel that will give the highest possible return is very important. In recent days, there have been a lot of sales channels because of the internet. Moreover, the channels have become very easy to reach out to because of the internet.
Here, one of the possible ways to choose a channel is to search for a local channel to sell it. But if you can get a wider number of possible buyers and a wider range of bidding prices on the internet, then why not go for it? Another awesome way to sell is to participate in national auctions; they can give you a higher bid for the vehicle. National auctions have a lot of advantages, such as-
National auctions are conducted at various geographical sites across the country. Having auctions at various locations can help you to get a higher bidding price. This can be done by identifying the location where the vehicle can get a high price by using the data.
National auctions provide support by handling the logistics of the vehicle’s inspection, valuation, and transportation of the vehicle to the auction site.
Step-2
The next step after choosing a channel and putting up the vehicle on sale is to wait. But you can track the status of progress of your vehicle till the date it gets sold. Therefore, there are a lot of technologies provided by the channels to track the activities.
Step-3
Vehicle remarketing strategies play a crucial role in the whole process. A lot of data is generated throughout the remarketing processes, which helps in developing an insight into the whole remarketing strategy. A lot of new technologies, such as vehicle remarketing software, are there to monitor the costs, trends, and performance. These data can be used collectively to maximize the return and improve the efficiency of the process. Let’s have a look at what trends, performance, and costs mean in vehicle remarketing.
Performance:
Performance data shows which auction or channel is providing high prices for the vehicles consistently.
Trends:
It means knowing which vehicle model is currently in demand and comparing various kinds of models. This helps to find the model which commands the highest price and also the price of other models as well.
Different models have different demands according to geographical locations. This data can be used to determine which vehicle will gain a higher price according to the location. This data can be useful for developing a pricing strategy by identifying the models and making where the vehicle model demand is declining or elevating.
Costs:
It is the cost of the vehicle, either on the offline or online channel or auction. Cost data can be helpful in determining the best channel by checking which channel is providing the best or worst cost-benefit ratios.
What Is The Significance Of Remarketing Experts?
You might wonder what the need for a vehicle remarketing expert is. Well, you might assume that you can manage the vehicle remarketing on your own, but when the volume of the vehicles is huge, you might lose your investment in the process. This is where the vehicle remarketing experts comes in handy; they have great significance in the remarketing field. A good remarketing expert can improve the efficiency of your whole vehicle remarketing process. This is how they can bring efficiency-
They have experience in coordinating with various established and reliable resources that can easily handle vehicle transportation, inspections, and refurbishing.
They are very cost-effective. They adopt various ways of incorporating economies of scale that are helpful in reducing costs at every stage of the vehicle remarketing process.
They are great at managing a great volume of vehicles efficiently. They do so by providing systems, experiences, and national networks.
It can also be said that a remarketing expert can introduce you to the seamless process where they can arrange everything from pick up to the sale. Likely, it can be an easy process with the help of an expert.
If you are looking for a vehicle remarketing expert that can help you in selling and buying used vehicles, then you need to consider the above-mentioned points and contact Brent Huisman.

trying to think of like... how would I describe each laptop manufacturer on pure vibes. off the top of my head...
asus: we have more marketing and r&d budget then we can possibly spend on normal things. look, this one is coated in LEDs! this one has the keyboard in the wrong place! this one splits open! half of their premium product launches generate more youtube views than actual sales because by the time you consider buying one they're discontinued. high-end products can be quite good; midrange products are often a couple bucks too expensive because the brand name buys you some clout. spends a lot of cash to get floorspace at best buy. taiwan.
lenovo: a relative newcomer to the western market (they bought IBM's thinkpad division back in the day), used to be the kings of cost cutting on basically every part they could think of. if they've learned what parts are actually worth cutting costs on (and benefitted from the fact that these days 85% of the parts that exist are Actually Decent) there might be something there. primarily does direct online sales. mainland china.
msi: kind of hit on an identity when they made the first thin and light gaming laptop/"jack of all trades, master of none" device that was actually good, and continue to have a strong presence in that market. devices tend to be a bit on the hollow/flexible-feeling side, not necessarily in a bad way, but just in contrast to "ough that's solid but heavy." under-reviewed, imho. taiwan.
gigabyte: hey, we exist too! some cool stuff at the high end; primary drawback in the west is a reputation for spotty support if you don't speak mandarin since they just do less sales volume than the other Asian companies. mainland china
acer: budget, budget, budget. takes up a truly impressive amount of the low to midrange market with usable but unspectacular devices. once in a while they'll put out a premium-priced device and get confused reviews, like, "guys, this is just a budget laptop with a higher price tag???" known for pure gaming laptops with poor battery life, displays, keyboards, and trackpads but very competitive performance, and general use laptops that are very competent for the price tag if you can find the model that hit the right balance on all of the parts. taiwan.
lg: primarily known for the lg gram line of premium, very lightweight general-use laptops, which are pretty good. do they make anything else? korea.
samsung: yeah we make everything; sure, let's make laptops. very low volume kind of like lg, but a marketing behemoth like asus. korea.
framework: finally, a repairability-focused laptop that's actually good. only has one device (13" general-use) and it's a bit overpriced iirc, and you have some "we're a startup" stuff to deal with, but it's rare that you can take a moral stance and actually get a good product out of it. united states.
dell: kind of the flagship american laptop brand. does a bit of everything. competes with asus on the "solidly built, premium-priced, unnecessarily flashy gaming" front via alienware, with acer on the "budget-priced, competent enough gaming" front via inspiron, and with apple on the "best possible jack of all trades" front via xps. notably, has a huge refurbished store (dell outlet) with a ton of selection that's unmatched by any of the others. united states.
hp: guys we're just like dell! please believe us. used to be the other flagship american laptop brand for years and then idk they ran out of money or something and dropped most of their product lines. kind of like american acer now, I guess? united states.
apple: operating system differences aside, has a consistent standard of build quality, minimum part quality, relative reliability, and "having a working trackpad" that makes every windows laptop look like some sort of children's toy. (I am not joking: the 2008 macbook pro has a trackpad that has not been matched by a windows pc in 15 years. it is legitimately puzzling.) 2016-2019 missteps aside, 80% of the things one could list about a laptop have been multiple years ahead of the competition on the mac essentially forever. on the other hand, they're a gazillion dollars, you can't game on them basically at all, you're stuck with macos, etc etc. (the m1 macbook air in particular is so good that none of that even really matters, though. fingers crossed for the 15" m2 air to continue the trend and not be $1800.) united states.
microsoft: "look, we can match apple's build and display quality!" an extreme newcomer, specifically designed to push the windows platform in the fronts where apple traditionally ate their lunch. they absolutely have done that, and are years ahead of almost anyone else on those fronts. too bad they're constantly a year behind schedule with their hardware and only do premium pricing, had some reliability issues, and suffer from a "we glued the whole thing together and if it breaks it's unfixable" problem that they're only very recently engineering their way out of. still, managed to put a seriously compelling product (surface laptop) in the premium general-use device category until the m1 air came out. united states.
razer: "look, we can match apple's build quality in a gaming laptop!" a relative newcomer that made an incredible, unprecedented jump from a gaming mouse company to a moderate-volume premium pc manufacturer somehow. only sells to the ultra-premium gaming market (weird ultrabooks aside), but does a good job of it. united states.
clevo: the white-label manufacturer behind many smaller brands like ibuypower, maingear; often does comically huge desktop replacement style devices. taiwan.
origin/corsair: who knows, but knowing corsair (asus on bad steroids), it will be about 85% too expensive to be more than a curiosity. united states.
huawei, xiaomei: up-and-coming chinese phone manufacturers joining the laptop market a la samsung. hard to find or get service for in the west. notable because they had access to the high-end display panels that before recently only apple and microsoft used, and sold devices with them at much lower prices. mainland china.

Genuine answer: because the social contact is pretty deteriorated and our culture has created unsustainable living reality
But also practical advice:
Area rugs and linens can be purchased used at a fraction of the cost either at less than half what it would cost new from a refurbisher or at 10-25% at an estate or rummage sale. If you go through a company that sets up estate auctions then you can avoid much of the risk.
I would just spring for the pillows though.
If you have a vent hood run it whenever you are cooking no matter what, and check and change the filter for it often. A window and small fan will also do. That will prevent much of the grease/dust difficulty of cleaning the kitchen.
Same is true of most of the home: get a couple of boxfans and use them with regularly changed or cleaned 20*20 air filters.
Your garbage can is too small. The smaller ones only work if you have the ability and desire to change it frequently. Get a bigger one.

For my desktop, I've got a random loop of my favourite old artworks and my two boys. The golden guy hiding in my bedsheets is my last rabbit, Tango. The guy who looks like he fell in a bucket of paint, sitting in his hay, is my current guy, Luca.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm a laptop user. I have a decent laptop instead of a smartphone for my art & uni. (If you're curious, my phone is a cheap flip one, that looks like it's crawled out of the 2000s :P).
For people tight on money, refurbished & second hand (from a reliable company), or x-lease business laptops are a great way to go on a tight budget!
Older models also have a better price & go on sale (or clearance) more often, without much of a compromise on performance. That's how me and my sister did ours! I saved up for 2–3 years and caught my current Mac on clearance sale after the new ones released. My little sister got an older refurbished model from a company that specialises repairing old laptop, and it's worked great for her for the last 5 years she's had it (, being a 9-year-old laptop).
This website is too mobile focused these days. Reblog and tell me what your desktop/laptop background is.
