BTW "destigmatizing mental illness" doesn't just mean being tolerant when someone says they have a psychiatric diagnosis or go to therapy, it also means investigating how your own view of "evil" may overlap with the signs of madness.

this is because the mainstream idea of what a "bad person" looks like is heavily influenced by sanism, thus most people's perception of what makes someone bad is literally just them being mentally disabled.

to support the crazy, you must accept that grandiosity, delusionality, attention-seeking, rage, homicidal ideation, and many similar experiences are not inherently dangerous. likewise, you must also understand that love and empathy are not the ultimate goods that everyone makes them out to be.

madness can easily be an abundance of the former and a lack of the latter, not just the quiet insecurity that most people reference when they talk about "mental health."

ultimately, the world will never be a truly safe place until it's a widely acknowledged fact that there's no such thing as villainous cognition or emotionality; prejudice is the source of all evil, not abnormality.

I hate so much how the narrative in the show and the fandom acts like adora actually left catra. All the way back in season one adora literally asks her to come with her and catra doesn't.

That's not abandonment she literally tried to get catra to come with her but then somehow in season 5 the narrative protays catra as valid for saying adora will abandon her when that never really happened ???

yeah, in s5 they suddenly make adora the one who leaves people - not just catra, but also glimmer and bow (though i understand why adora would leave them as she doesn't want them to watch her die, but somehow the show acts like that's the same as abandoning catra which never happened at all)

s5 was literally adora slander and i hate it

the way the ericson group were at the outbreak just a bunch of troubled kids who made various mistakes or committed crimes and were judged by a system that punished and abandoned them instead of giving them the support and love they needed, are then nearly a decade later put into a situation where now they must judge a troubled child for the mistakes and crimes hes committed against them. and 5 to 3 vote them out 😭

i know other people are tired of female characters having stories revolving motherhood but god it is so nice to get stories about it that are actually... written with care? i imagine some of the fatigue around these stories is bc of how it's done with the assumption that all women must be or want to be mothers or it's done without any actual examination of the woman's characterization--and i also get tired of those! but there are so many female characters who specifically do not have or want kids as well these days, so i am glad that we can have a balance of ones who are fine without kids but also ones who are well-written as mothers??? idk. it makes me happy that we can have both, because parenthood will always be a thing, even if some people... equate their own preference of avoiding those stories altogether with automatic misogyny when a story does include it at all.

Which is bizarre, right? How do you think the people who made those F/F fics feel, being used as an example? You have equated their work to a number, and judged that number as not being enough. Rather than acting on your anger, you chose to reduce all the words written in service to the thing you claim to care about, so you could post a gotcha. It's lame, dude. That post is lame. re-reading some of my early thriving in the apocalypse stuff and I’m getting emotional all over again about how vecna literally pinned Nancy to a chair and forced her to watch the end of the world and the violent deaths of her entire family and I? I’m not over it. She is EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD she is still in high school! She has been scared and alone for two and a half years! She is trying her best against all the odds and she is being horrifically traumatized all over again while her friends struggle to save her because she hasn’t let anyone close enough to her to know her favorite song! Ya know ... a fairly common complaint / critique I have seen thrown at the first osmt san movie is that it didn't show the 18matsus enough -- which i definitely agree to, to some extent -- but specifically complaints about kara being shown the least always baffles me a teeny bit.

I personally think it makes like. a LOT of sense if you think about where the movie's coming from -- the whole point of it is to show how much they used to suppress, but also, how much Karamatsu was talked over and ignored as a youth. I think his absence really nails home how little regard the others had spared for him at the time and how he often went forgotten and ignored ( and also plays into why, aside from red roses, forget me nots are his most common flower association ).

I would say it comes off as a more deliberate choice to feature him as little as possible because even the other brothers barely --or not at all -- remembered how Karamatsu was supposed to be back then. And yes, it's his memory world -- but doesn't that also emphasize the fact? The fact that he felt so isolated and forgotten from his siblings he's barely even present in the world made from HIM???? Like ... ouch, man. That shows you so much without telling you to your face, and makes a pretty good case for Karamatsu trying to suppress that aspect of himself and his personality more than anything; hard to find, hard to talk to, glossed over by all...

Then there was the lying to himself, and that only really made things worse for him in the future. Now he's more fascinatingly closed off than ever ... and only now does it seem like the brothers (at least as of the pizza skit) are realizing how little they do. I'm also of the camp that I believe his season 3 characterization makes a lot of sense post movie, though I know that's a pretty divisive opinion in the fanbase -- but whats clear to me is that he's very much about to burn out similar to ichimatsu's burn out, and he can't keep pretending he's fine and dandy forever.

im so tired of the american centric discourse surrounding autism n aspergers man 😭 like i agree on the term aspergers being bad for several reasons n I don't use that term for myself despite it being my diagnosis on paper, HOWEVER aspergers is still a diagnosis outside the us meaning a lot of ppl use it. n yeah it should be removed n just fall under autism spectrum but as of right now it isn't. so constantly harassing autistic ppl outside the us who use aspergers bcs that's their diagnosis n calling them aspie supremacists, uneducated etc is actually not the serve u think it is 💀 its also just factually incorrect to say its an outdated term when again, it's still used to this day OUTSIDE the us. so no its not common knowledge n americans who constantly use it as a gotcha moment r rlly just showing how uneducated n us centric they r. u don't see me harrasing ppl from the us who still use bpd just bcs the term changed to eupd here n other places. kindness, patience n education yall we're in the same boat
