Title: 'No Thanks' is what I should've said
Ship: WandaNat
Warnings: Angst. Probably lots of typos
[A/N: This isn't proof read and honestly sucks, but I felt like I couldn't write anything else until I finished this so decided to post it anyway.]
At first Natasha was wary of Wanda Maximoff. The brunnette had once shown Natasha the worst time of her life with a simple twist of her fingers. She had heard whispers of a special stone being aquired once, but it was nothing more than a rumor. Madame's hated rumors and it was swiftly shut down, so Natasha never heard of it again.
Then she heard Steve through comms reporting there were two enhanced in the field, one with magic. The next time on the field, there was a red haze around her eyes and she was back in that Room. In the back of her mind the whispers were there, softly speaking of a magical stone that was said to give anyone who touched it powers.
The last thing Natasha wanted to do was accept Wanda Maximoff onto the team, but Clint gave her that look (The one he gave her so many times when it came to his kids, she had a feeling Wanda would be invited to the next Barton thanksgiving) and combined with Steve's firm stance on the matter, she decided not to put up too much of a fight. Throughout the first few weeks, the witch was brash. She gave curt answers and lashed out if you pushed too hard. After that, after settling and getting over the grief of her brother, she became more hesitant- constantly fiddling with her rings, anxious cooking, chewing on the strings of her hoodie. Vision was the only one she talked to, aside from Clint and Steve. But Clint had left after a while, leaving it just Steve and Vision. The girl absolutely hated Tony, despite staying at his compound, and Natasha avoided her unless neccessary.
That was supposed to be the plan until Steve approached her, all stoic faced with a determined look in his eyes, "Hey, Nat-"
"Don't 'Hey, Nat' me," she quirked a single brow, "What do you want?"
Steve smiled bashfully, cupping the back of his neck, "I know that you aren't fond of her, but would you be willing to train Wanda in hand to hand?"
Natasha gave him a blank stare. If it weren't for the fact that Steve Rogers, symbol of justice and honesty, was asking her, she would have thought he was joking. The blonde rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, still wearing that basful grin.
"Please?" he tacked on, ever the gentleman.
Baby blue eyes stared at her pleadingly.
"Fine."
The super-soldier visibly perked up. His shoulders straightened and knees unbent, "Perfect, because I already told her to meet you in the gym tommorrow morning at 5:30."
"Steve," she warned, resisting the urge to slap him.
He gave her a small grin, resembling that of a cheeky child.
<_____________>
Natasha arrived to gym half an hour early, an old habit that still lingered. She didn't bother with the wraps that sat in the bottom of her duffle bag, rather running on the tredmill until Wanda arrived - a simple slow jog.
When the witch did arrive she donned a tight skinned long-sleeve shirt and black leggings. Her fingers twisted into the cuffs of her sleeves as she hesitantly shuffled into the space. Natasha jumped off the redmill as Wanda awkwardly stood in the middle of the space. She squirmed and averted her eyes to the floor as Natasha eyed her up and down, taking a swig from her water bottle.
"Do you have wraps?" Natasha asked, wiping her forehead with her sleeve.
"Uhm-" Wanda shook her head, "No."
The redhead forced away the urge to roll her eyes, rather gesturing for Wanda to follow her with a sharp exhale. She led her to the back of the room where the spare supplies were kept. Picking out two deep red rolls of wraps she tossed them to Wanda.
"I'm guessing you don't know how to wrap your hands?"
Shaking her head the brunnette unrolled the wraps experimentally, wincing as the ends tumbled to floor. She eyed the witch's fingers, devoid of any of her usual rings. Natasha sighed, grabbing a pair to demonstrate and showed Wanda how to wrap her hands properly. It took her a minute to understand it, but eventually Wanda was able to wrap her hands without help - mostly.
Now the witch was standing in front of Natasha who was holding a pad.
"Punch it," she ordered.
Eyes the tiniest bit wide, Wanda threw a flimsy punch with her back hand. Her arm dropped pathetically.
"Again."
Once more, she threw a punch that hit the pad with the softest of thuds. Natasha sighed, lowering the pad from in front of her face and giving Wanda a deadpan look.
"You need to put more force into it," she instructed, "You're not going to get all your force from just your arm. Twist your hips. Again."
Wanda threw another punch, this time twisting her hips and hitting the pad more solidly. Natasha nodded in slight approval before ordering her to do it again.
<_______________>
While she was still wary of the girl, Wanda had become integrated into Natasha's daily routine. Train with Wanda, have breakfast with Wanda, attend to personal matters, have dinner - which Wanda almost always made - and then on Saturdays watch a movie with Wanda and sometimes Steve. Despite spending at least a quater of the day with Wanda, the younger witch was still a fidgeting mess around her. It was a work in progress.
But she was improving in hand to hand rather quickly.
Wanda threw a punch to Natasha's abdomen, exhaling in frustration when she missed. The redhead twirled around her - her fighting style akin to that of the moves of a dancer. She moved to a song when she danced, spinning and bouncing on her toes. Wanda wasn't much different. When moving, she was light on her feet and quick to doge, but landing after throwing a kick or over extending a punch is when she landed heavy - planting all her weight on the ground.
Natasha took the opportunity when Wanda pushed to hard, throwing a sweep to her ankles and taking the witch off her feet. She landed with a thump and extended arms. Her brown ponytail splayed out behind her as those pretty green eyes stared up at Natasha in a pout.
"Don't give me that look," Natasha admonished, extending her hand, "Get up."
With a groan Wanda accepted the offered hand and let Natasha haul her up, swaying a little on her feet. The redhead narrowed her eyes at the movement, not immediately slipping into her fighting stance as Wanda did.
"What have you eaten today?" she asked.
Wanda blushed as Natasha trailed her eyes over her, looking for more signs of exhaustion.
"Uhm-" she paused for a moment, licking her lips, "Nothing?" the witch's voice raised a pitch towards the end as she slowly slipped out of her fighting stance.
While they usually trained in the morning, Natasha was gone that morning so Wanda asked if they could do a session in the evening.
She crossed her arms over her chest and gave Wanda deadpan, "Nothing."
"Yeah?"
"You need more food than that, Querida," the older woman clicked her tounge against her teeth, "If we're going to continue training like this you need fuel your body."
Wanda blushed at the spanish endearment, although not entirely sure what it meant. Natasha turned her around by the shoulders and guided her towards the door, "We're going to get something to eat."
"Nat, it's ok really-"
Natasha brought her hand up to Wanda's lips, silencing her and ignoring the younger woman's deepend blush - highlighting her green eyes.
"Nope. Food."
She was totally still wary of Wanda.
<_____________>
Natasha pressed her side into the armrest of the couch, feet tucked under her. Wanda was laid next to her with her legs propped up by the coffee table. A show played in the distance, one Natasha hadn't bothered to register. She thinks it was a sitcom, especially since Wanda chose.
Her eyes scanned the witch, desperatly trying to force herself to look away and failing. Her eyes trailed from the brown hair that fell and past her round nose and sharp cheekbones. Back to her green eyes that were so focused on the screen as the balanced a spoon between her lips. Ringed fingers held a cold ice cream bowl, the source of the spoon, as Wanda delicately scooped another spoonful - eyes still trained on the TV.
She huffed after taking one more bite and turned towards Natasha, "Are you even watching?"
"Yes." The assassin rolled her eyes and pointedly ignored her cheeks heating up as she faced the TV.
Wanda's eyes burned into the side of her skull, no longer focusing on the TV. Natasha turned back towards Wanda, smirking at the light blush that appeared on the younger woman's cheeks.
"See something you like Maximoff?"
The Sokovian blushed, her cheeks reddening to the shade of Natasha hair. Her eyes dipped down towards her lap, briefly flickering up towards Natasha. Lip tugging between her teeth, Wanda looked back up at Natasha. Hesitance shimmered through her eyes.
"Can I kiss you?" she whispered, a sokivian accent lacing her voice.
Natasha smirked, refusing to let her surprise show, and answered Wanda's question with actions instead of words. Her lips pressed against the Sokovians soft ones. Wanda felt just like Natasha had imagined, soft and gentle. Her hands pressed onto the side of the couch as she straddled the little witch, deepening the kiss.
She wasn't sure how long the kiss lasted, but Wanda broke apart first - slightly out of breath. Her forehead rested against the assassins, a dopey grin adorning Wanda's face.
"I've wanted to do that for a while," she admitted shyly.
Natasha laughed, "Me too."
Wet lip pulled between her teeth, Wanda looked pleadingly at Natasha, "Again?"
<__________________>
The "Civil War" as the news dubbed it, came and went in a blur. Deep down, Natasha knew that there was inkling of sense in Steve's reasoning, but siding with Tony was safer. The emotional part of her wanted to help Steve - help Wanda, but it wouldn't play out in the long run. If she had sided with them she would be a criminal, which ended up being the result in the end.
Guilt pooled in her stomach when she thought about where Wanda might be - she could be anywhere. The Fridge had been repaired, but The Raft was still up and running.
After taking down the Red Room, she tracked Steve and Barnes down - it wasn't that hard. Barnes may have been the Winter Soldier, but Steve was never good at blending in and being stealhy. Besides, she knew Barnes tactics from the old days. (A time she preffered to keep shoved into the back of her mind, but it came in handy this time.)
Steve was reluctant to break into a U.S prison, some of his patriotic sense still lingering. Natasha didn't understand it, he was a criminal, but still held a loyal love for his country. It took persuasion, mainly from Barnes, to get him to help with the break in. So after some research, she found the prision Wanda, Sam, and Clint were being held in. Scott had gotten out with the deal of being on house arrest. Clint most likely would have taken the option, but his family was off books.
Now, she sat in front of Wanda as sirens blared above them and flashed bright red lights. She ran her knife down the outside of the witch's straigh jacket, careful not to cut her. Clint worked behind her on unlocking the neck cuff, which came off surprisingly easy with a clatter. Wanda stared despondently into the distance as Natasha hauled her to her feet.
"C'mon Wanda, we need to go," she muttered.
Footsteps pounded near them as she slung one of Wanda's arms over her shoulder and Clint mirrored it. Steve had already taken Sam to the roof and loaded him into the quinjet, Bucky was holding off the soldiers that threatened to ruin their mission.
Breaking in hadn't been as easy as expected. The Raft was a high level prison, nothing Natasha and Barnes hadn't done before. (She thinks they may have been sent on a mission here before, but those memories were fuzzy.) Steve, however, despite being on the run for several months, was still a bulky super soldier who lacked any sense of stealth - tripping an alarm on the way in.
Which lead to her rushing Wanda to the roof with Clint - who didn't look much better than the witch but still pushing through.
She finally made it to the roof, gently setting Wanda down in a seat before turning back and seeing Barnes sprinting towards the quinjet, guards not far behind him. The ramp was already raising, and Barnes just barely made the jump in - not even breaking a sweat.
Steve turned from the pilots seat with a sheepish grin, but still a bold look in his eyes, "Everyone here?"
Barnes rolled his eyes.
Natasha scoffed, "No thanks to you."
She plopped down next to Wanda, ignoring the flinch. The older red-head frowned in concern at how Wanda was still staring into space, just above Clint's head from where he sat across from them. She looked questioningly at her bestfriend who shook his head - a sign he would tell her later.
Steve frowned at her comment, turning back towards the controls.
"Five months," Wanda muttered.
"What?" Natasha turned her head towards the witch with a frown.
"Five months," she repeated, "We've been there five months."
"Wanda," Sam trailed off, a tint of warning, yet care, in his tone.
The assassin's eyes flickered towards Clint, looking for guidance, but the man seemed willing to let her ride this out on her own.
"Wanda- I-"
The witch shook her head, finally looking at Natasha, "We were there for five months. Five months."
While the time may have flown for Natasha, it didn't just fly by for Wanda. Those five months had been torture. Her arms were numb, and felt permantely stuck in a crossed position. A constricting feeling was stuck in her chest, red hot and searing. She felt like if she didn't use her powers soon she would explode.
Natasha's frown deepened, "Wanda I got to you as soon as I could- It took a while but-"
Steve and Bucky continued chatting in the background, oblivious as Wanda scoffed. Sam glanced warily between the two and Clint just looked at Natasha with a resigned sense of pity.
The witch scowled firmly at Natasha, her gaze filled with hatred as if it was Natasha's fault she was in the prison.
"моя любовь..." she trailed off, unsure of what to say. My Love.
"Don't call me that," Wanda snapped, red swirling around her fingers.
"Okay!" Sam stepped closer, gently grabbing Wanda by the shoulders, "Hey, how about you come sit with me, yeah?"
With one final glare at Natasha, Wanda moved to sit with Sam. Clint, in turn, moved to sit with Natasha.
"I don't get it," she whispered to him, "I came back- I-"
Clint shook his head, "just give her time, Nat. She went through a good amount there."
Natasha let the words go in one ear, barely registering them as she stared despondently at Wanda. Had she ruined it?
<__________>
Wanda didn't talk to her for a while after that, barely even making eye contact. They had taken up shelter in Wakanda, T'Challa was kind enough to do that. Somehow, Vision had found them. Ross had sent him and the advanced microwave was able to make it through Wakanda's defenses.
In those few months, Vision grew close to Wanda. Especially after Wanda convinced him to not snitch to Ross. The two did movie nights together, cooked dinner together, and simply hung. That was supposed to be her thing with Wanda. Not Vision's.
Slowly, the gap between Wanda and Natasha grew bigger and bigger until it was a giant chasm.
Wanda approached the group the next day. Once she would have been fiddling with her fingers and rings, but now she held Vision's hand - a small smile on her face.
"Vis and I have decided we want to travel around," she said. Steve opened his mouth to protest, ready to ramble about all the reasons it wasn't safe, but Wanda raised her hand, "We'll check in every few weeks, let you know we're safe."
"I will protect her, Captain," Vision promised, voice monotone.
Natasha's heart burned with jealousy, but she kept her mouth shut, lips twisted bitterly.
An impulsive thought came to her, and before she could stop herself, she blurted: "Can I talk to you Wanda? In private?" Heads snapped her way. Natasha refused to shrink under the questioning gazes, only standing when Wanda nodded.
The witch trailed after her to the hallway outside, now her fingers fiddled.
"Are we done? For good?" Natasha asked, the words dry in her mouth.
Wanda shrugged with a sigh, "Yeah."
Her fists clenched, "Why?"
"Natasha you left me."
"I had other things-"
"Oh please!" Wanda scoffed, her nose tilted upward, "I'm not just talking about The Raft. You chose Tony over me. You chose The Accords over me. You were going to turn me in despite knowing what it would mean for me."
"Well so did Vision!" Natasha accused.
"Yeah, well he chose not to turn me in! He was just following his programming!" Wanda glared at her, eyes blazing red.
Turning, the witch started to walk away. Natasha grabbed her wrist, "Wanda please.."
"No, Natasha."
Wanda walked away, leaving Natasha by herself.

Since Twitter launched in 2006, the company has acted as a kind of heartbeat for social media conversation. That’s partly because it’s where media people go to talk about the media, but also because it’s been willing to open up its backend to researchers. Academics have used free access to Twitter’s API, or application programming interface, in order to access data on the kinds of conversations occurring on the platform, which helps them understand what the online world is talking about.
Twitter’s API is used by vast numbers of researchers. Since 2020, there have been more than 17,500 academic papers based on the platform’s data, giving strength to the argument that Twitter owner Elon Musk has long claimed, that the platform is the “de facto town square.”
But new charges, included in documentation seen by WIRED, suggest that most organizations that have relied on API access to conduct research will now be priced out of using Twitter.
It’s the end of a long, convoluted process. On February 2, Musk announced API access would go behind a paywall in a week. (Those producing “good” content would be exempted.) A week later, he delayed the decision to February 13. Unsurprisingly, that deadline also slipped by, as Twitter suffered a catastrophic outage.
The company is now offering three levels of Enterprise Packages to its developer platform, according to a document sent by a Twitter rep to would-be academic customers in early March and passed on to WIRED. The cheapest, Small Package, gives access to 50 million tweets for $42,000 a month. Higher tiers give researchers or businesses access to larger volumes of tweets—100 million and 200 million tweets respectively—and cost $125,000 and $210,000 a month. WIRED confirmed the figures with other existing free API users, who have received emails saying that the new pricing plans will take effect within months.
“I don’t know if there’s an academic on the planet who could afford $42,000 a month for Twitter,” says Jeremy Blackburn, assistant professor at Binghamton University in New York and a member of the iDRAMA Lab, which analyzes hate speech on social media—including on Twitter.
Twitter did not respond to a request for comment.
For subscribers to the cheapest package, the number of rules through which they can filter data from the app’s Real Time PowerTrack API will be capped at 25,000, and the number of queries of the Full Archive Search API will be capped at 50,000. The number of Twitter handles they can analyze through the Account Activity API will also be limited to 5,000, and there will be a max of 20 requests per minute for the Engagement API Totals Endpoint, which allows researchers to see how well tweets are doing in terms of engagement.
While this sounds like a substantial dataset, it only accounts for around 0.3 percent of Twitter’s monthly output, meaning it is far from being a comprehensive snapshot of activity on the platform. Twitter’s free API access gave researchers access to 1 percent of all tweets.
Elissa M. Redmiles, a faculty member at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems in Germany, says the new prices are eye-watering. “It’s probably outside of any academic budget I’ve ever heard of,” she says, adding that the price would put off any long-term analysis of user sentiment. “One month of Twitter data isn’t really going to work for the purposes people have,” she says.
Kenneth Joseph, assistant professor at the University of Buffalo and one of the authors of a recent paper analyzing a day in the life of Twitter, says the new pricing effectively kills his career. “$42,000 is not something I can pay for a single month in any reasonable way,” says. “It totally destroys any opportunity to engage in research in this space, which I’ve in many respects built a career on.”
The pricing documents were provided to WIRED by a researcher who asked for anonymity, since they are still accessing Twitter data through an existing API agreement and worry it could be terminated if they were identified. They say the new costs were “not viable for the academic community.”
“No one can afford to pay that,” they say. “Even rich institutions can’t afford to pay half a million a year for a thimbleful of data.”
It’s not clear whom the new pricing model is targeted at. Nir Grinberg, an assistant professor in the Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering at Ben-Gurion University in Israel, used to work at a startup that used Twitter’s data.
“It seems like a really steep increase for a tiny amount of data. One percent of Twitter a few months ago was free. Now Twitter is offering 0.3 percent for half a million dollars [a year],” he says. “It’s just crazy. I honestly don’t know who could budget for this.”
Researchers say the damage won’t just be to academic discourse. Twitter is a vital dataset for understanding how the internet works and what conversations are being had in the notional global public square.
Joseph recognizes that there are other platforms he could research, but notes that Twitter’s potent combination of journalists, high-ranking politicians, and business decisionmakers makes it a vital area for research. “Twitter is a particularly special space for understanding elite discourse,” he says. “To rip that away from all of us trying to use the system to understand it is a tough pill to swallow.”
Blackburn, however, says researchers will continue to find a way to scrutinize what’s happening on Twitter. “We’ve been mostly cut off from Facebook for years and we’ve continued to make progress,” he says. “It’s not like science is going to be held hostage by a guy that played himself into burning $44 billion on a website that makes no money, just so he could force all its users to read his shitposts.”

This is so very close to my tried and true gluten-free biscuit recipe. So I can say for sure to any of my gluten-free witches out there, you can definitely sub Bob's Redmill 1 for 1 in for the rego flour in this and it will work perfectly.
Rosemary Drop Biscuits
Every year, I put together a spread for each of the equinoxes and solstices. This is the first recipe in a new series for this year's Spring Equinox. My focuses for the meal are growth, prosperity, peace, happiness, and celebration. You’ll see that reflected in all of these recipes.
I’m publishing this recipe first, because I’ll be making it first. Anytime I make a big meal, I like to do my baking ahead of time to save space and ensure it’s done at the same time as the meal. But also, I find it’s a great opportunity to prime the kitchen for cooking in quantity. The goal is to cleanse and prepare the area without scouring the energy, something I use rosemary for frequently in a variety of ways.
This recipe is ultra-simple and comes together within half an hour. I suggest making it right before you cook the rest of your meal, but you can make it earlier in the day or even the day before.
Ingredients:
2 c All-Purpose Flour
1 T Baking Powder
1 t Salt
1 T Dried Rosemary
1/2 c Butter, cold
3/4 to 1 c Milk
2 T Butter, melted (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat the over to 450 degrees F.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and rosemary.
Cut in the cold butter.
Add the milk slowly until just combined and the batter is thick and lumpy.
Drop about a quarter cup of batter at a time onto a prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until golden.
Optionally, brush the warm biscuits with melted butter.
Recipe Notes:
There are a few methods to cut in the butter. You can grate it into the bowl, use a fork, or use a pastry cutter to do so. Be sure that the butter is very cold for this step. This is what gives the biscuits their flaky, buttery texture once baked.
These biscuits will keep for a few days in an air-tight container. They make excellent companions to leftover gravy!
Magic Notes:
Rosemary is one of those swiss army knife ingredients to me. It has a place in so many recipes and spells, and with good reason. Here, I’m leveraging the cleansing aspect for my Spring Equinox spread. I plan on making these biscuits first to prepare the kitchen for cooking the rest of the meal. This cleanses the air and oven of any lingering energy from other workings, leaving behind a relatively clean slate for me to work with.
I also like to make rosemary-based breads or rolls whenever my space needs a refresh. It’s a gentle cleanser that won’t scour away the cast-iron-like seasoning of the space. Rather, it sweeps away the excess and leaves the kitchen (and adjoining rooms) feeling light and fresh. Some cleansing rituals can be irritating to resident spirits; in my experience, this particular recipe is generally spirit-friendly…
…Especially if you plan on offering one to the spirits! These biscuits make excellent altar offerings. As mentioned above, I’ll be making these first for my spread. Part of that ritual is offering the first biscuit on my spirit work altar for my allies to enjoy. Invite them into the space to partake, and offer space in the kitchen while you cook the rest of the meal.
Consider the properties of the humble biscuit. Thick, flaky, absorbent. In a meal, they soak up rogue gravy and are slathered with butter and other rich deliciousness on the plate. I try to have a biscuit or roll in any large spread, because there’s always energy lost at the table. These biscuits serve the purpose of soaking up anything that escapes from other dishes so that the person enjoying the meal doesn’t miss out on any of the energy on offer.
After you make your biscuits, take time to clean your kitchen surfaces. Wipe away any rogue flour, sweep the floors, and give everything at least a quick once-over. Then, you’ll be ready to work on the rest of your meal — or go about your day, depending on when you make these.
If you enjoyed this recipe or like what I do, consider throwing a couple dollars in my tip jar, buying a recipe card, or commissioning me for a tarot reading or custom spell! All supporters will get exclusive access to all of my equinox recipes as they go up this week — plus access to my backlog of exclusive articles. Support helps me keep my bills paid, since this is currently my full-time gig.
All of these recipes will be sold as a recipe card bundle starting this Saturday (3/16), so stay tuned!

Monitoring traffic conditions with cameras mounted on transit buses
Tumblr media
- By Nuadox Crew -
Researchers at The Ohio State University have proposed an innovative method for counting and tracking vehicles on public roads using the cameras already installed on campus buses.
By automating the process using AI and a state-of-the-art 2D deep learning model called YOLOv4, they demonstrated the ability to accurately measure vehicle counts, detect objects on urban roadways, and distinguish parked vehicles from moving ones.
Compared to previous studies relying on sparsely placed sensors, the use of mobile cameras on buses offers better spatial and temporal coverage, providing a more comprehensive high-resolution view of road activities in a city. This data could help transportation planners understand changes in demand, leading to improved efficiency in the broader transportation system.
The unique aspect of this study is that it utilizes available resources at no additional cost—the existing bus cameras installed for safety and security purposes. This makes it easily integrable into other cities' traffic monitoring systems, potentially offering a cost-effective solution.
Beyond vehicle counting, the AI-powered algorithm can project real-world bird's-eye-view coordinates of the road network using streams of images, GNSS measurements, and regional information from 2D maps. This precision allows it to detect deviations from planned routes and log detailed information about roadways, further enhancing traffic surveillance capabilities.
The widespread deployment and integration of this approach could lead to more effective planning, design, and operation of roadways, ultimately reducing travel times and providing greater travel choices for the public. The research was supported by the United States Department of Transportation's Mobility21 University Transportation Center program.

"Behind Those Eyes itu kayak perjalanan seru. ***
