you should draw fitz in a cardigan (if you want ofc)
i'm trying to remember how to draw him, and also how to draw in general, but I have. a quick little sketch of the boy :)
Tumblr media
I think. he's very neat. and that I don't actually remember quite what a cardigan is, so I don't know if this counts. but nevertheless! i love him <3

Out of fanart and OC centered stuff, lately, I have been delving into making art that feeds my most inner and personal beliefs. It is making me try different mediums and visual languages I dropped or left aside for quite a long.
I doubt to share these (probably that badger will see the light when I render it a bit more) but that's fine: they are made by me and for me first! I need too things that are only for my own contemplation. Is a healthy habit.

watching some 90's moomins whilst I watercolor some Snufkins! (and a sneaky lil snufmin aswell... this can't be stopped)
I kept having repeated dreams with some of the characters, and finally looked up what these guys were from after wracking my brain... and thus, I have rediscovered the moomins!
its strange, I read the books (finn family moomintroll, and comet in moominvalley) a ton as a kid, but I remember those times more like dreams than actual concrete memories. Strange, huh? Tove Jansson's stories really do put you into some sort of dream-headspace, it's pretty cool.
anyways, without me noticing snufkin casually shaped my personality as a kid...

(Fine, I’ll do it my damn self: part 5 of my silly lil mlm stories <3)
tmr is just babygirl i don’t make the rules
Watercolors (Chapter One) — tom riddle x male! artistic! hufflepuff! reader
Tumblr media
he could manipulate and possess me thus irreversibly changing my trust in people despite it never being mentioned again and i would thank him
yk, i absolutely love chamber of secrets, but who starts a new diary (obtained under questionable circumstances) with ‘my name is’?
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Tom Marvolo Riddle had been stuck inside of his diary since he was sixteen years old.
The diary itself, inside, was a perfect replica of Hogwarts, the boundaries stretching out well into the Forbidden Forest. Perfect, except for the fact that it was made solely of parchment and ink, and was completely devoid of color or life.
Tom hated the color of parchment.
The diary passed hands many times over the five subsequent decades. First there was the pathetic, sniveling man—the Malfoy sycophant—who all but groveled at Tom’s feet (metaphorically, of course).
Next was the littlest Weasley, the redheaded girl who bored Tom to (again, metaphorical) death. He could only pretend to be interested in how Dean Thomas held the door open for her so many times before he wanted to bash his head into one of the walls.
(He tried, once. The parchment just ripped and left him with a nasty paper-cut on his forehead. Tom missed the red of blood. Now, he bled only black, dripping ink.)
Then, Harry Potter, the boy fated to defeat him, (or whatever) who turned out to be really quite sweet. As a last fuck you to whom he became in the future, Tom aided Harry in coming out to the littlest Weasley’s mother.
That’ll show Lord Voldemort, the dipshit, Tom thought gleefully.
Eventually though, even lovely Harry became more distant, his newly rediscovered godfather being the rightful center of his attention. Tom supposed he might have been jealous of the acquitted Black in another life, but after fifty years of loneliness he understood the yearning for living, breathing friends rather than just paper that writes back, as Little Weasley once called him.
Then, out of nowhere, came the Hufflepuff boy with a tin of watercolors and an eye for the overlooked.
The first thing this wondrous creature made for Tom was a little stone cottage, complete with a warm hearth, a garden of pumpkins and berries, and an idyllic curl of smoke from the chimney. The cottage sat near the edge of the forest, wonderfully secluded and alive.
Tom had watched as gentle sweeps of a brush, suspended in midair, created a home. One that existed in both the physical diary and the hellish paper prison Tom resided in.
Everything existed.
The warm, brown thatched roof, the colorfully patterned bedspread, and even a fireplace.
When the masterpiece was complete, Tom, although he would never admit it, gorged himself on the garden’s sweet huckleberries and sour raspberries. Afterward, he explored his new house, even going so far as to stick his hand into the flames of the fire.
(They weren’t real. They felt like nothing more than a faint warmth against his skin. Disappointing, Tom supposed. But probably a safety hazard.)
Then he curled up in the big bed, under the vibrant bedspread, and closed his eyes.
For the first time in fifty years, Tom slept.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Chapter Two
i need you all to know that the original title for this was “Tom Riddle is a man-whore(crux)??? (NOT CLICKBAIT)” so-

I've recently started to create geometric drawings (axonometry) of mathematical functions, the same ones I usually tackle with code.
One could say it does not make sense to painstakingly draw what code could create quickly. But for me the interesting thing is to grasp these functions on a different, more intuitive level - compared to mentally processing mathematical formulae or casting it into computer code. After literally decades of dealing with mathematical expressions and code I have rediscovered descriptive geometry, as sort of a "third language" (in addition to math or code) to say the same things. I am also fascinated by the little math puzzles that pop up when I create these drawings, and which require a completely different approach than calculations or programming.
I am usually drawing them at least three times, until I am somewhat satisfied. The journey is the reward anyway :-)
Here is the work-in-progress photo of my taming two favorite functions of mine - often already used in my creative coding art. I called them "Reality and Imagination" as these are two "towers" or "trumpets" that represent real and imaginary part of the complex function 1/z. Grand words, but you also describe them as: Stack circular rings upon each, ring diameter decreasing reciprocally with height, align along the circumference. Then flip over, and then rotate by 90 degrees.
Circles are just ellipses, seems to be easy, but the 2D projections overlap greatly with the 3D axonometric image as I am currently using "small" A4 watercolor paper. The real challenge will be to convey the spirit of this trumpet-like surface without of course create all the giant circles.... as moving closer to the origin of the vertical axis, the radii of the circles get larger and larger, and finally the straight axis is the "circle with infinite radius".
Anyway, I actually do not really want to "explain math", I am more meditating upon these structures :-) I am drawing two versions in parallel - with slightly differently positioned 2D projections, and different sizes of the circles. The version were I colored the ellipses / circles already was the first, more rough one - and I guess I will test something more bold with that one. The other one will maybe become a more delicate drawing. I also admit, that I take a look at the code-generated structures - not for comparing details, but to get the overall look right :-)

Okay but what if those A and B characters that creators substitute for relationship dynamics are actors who volunteer to be placeholders
And what if A secretly resents B because A always has to be the cheery, sunny, character, who loves without limits and always plays the initiator
What if A is sick and tired of only being relevant in B's context because B somehow ends up consistently becoming the base for the fan favorite character while A just becomes the character shipped with them
What if under that resentment is jealousy, and under that jealousy is hurt, because A gets it, A gets why B is so loved, and A wants to be loved too but B is nothing but cold and distant towards them when they're working together
What if A secretly wonders if their capacity to constantly pour into someone is the reason B is so loved, and if the reason B never looks at A twice is because B doesn't want to acknowledge that
What if, for how cold B acts when they're posing with A, it's because they love A
What if B wants to turn around and dump all the love and gentleness and joy and safety that A has given them over the years back onto them, but they can't
What if B wants to make absolutely sure that their motives are pure, and is just waiting for a chance when they're not acting to do so because that's not something they want shared with an audience
What if B used to freeze up whenever those chances came along, and now they don't get those chances anymore because A decided the best thing for both of them was to show up, act, and leave
What if one day A and B show up, only to find out that the creator who booked them got art/writer's block and couldn't make it
What if B invites A back to their place and is surprised that A is surprised when they do
What if A goes along with B's request solely because it was so unexpected they just said "yes" and now they're wondering why they're willingly walking into a space that'll only tell them all over again how contextual and relative their importance is
What if B's living space has been transformed over time to be a safe haven from their many admirers
What if A had forgotten what it felt like to be safe
What if A and B start talking as B makes A's favorite drink order and casually calls them by their real name (which doesn't even start with A!)
What if B finally gets to show all the warm colors and nurturing nature and gentle smiles and initiation that they always have to hide under a blue-grey watercolor wash when they're on set
What if A's so lost at this point that they just -
What if A just breaks
What if all the burnished bronze of their golden retriever smile finally gets a break and all the yellows and oranges of their character start running off like paint bleeding down a soaked newspaper
What if B sits in quiet, cold horror as they finally realized that for all the details they noticed and care they held, they never saw A's pain
What if A does their best not to let too much out, but B is perceptive enough to realize that they're the reason the most beautiful thing in their life has been falling apart
What if B apologizes
What if A tells them it might've been their effect, but it wasn't their fault
What if B asks A to let them take care of them
What if A says no
What if A says that they don't want a caretaker, they want a friend
What if B calls out for both of them for the next few weeks and tells A they can stay in their safe space as long as they need to (work can wait, the creators love it when C and D show up to do their "idiot gremlins in love" act)
What if B spends the next week battling the heartache of finally having the connection they wanted in their grasp, only to realize they still needed to earn the privilege of having all that love and care accepted from the person they'd refused to interact with earlier
What if A spends the next week rediscovering what it means to trust someone and start accepting in return what they've been giving and giving and giving
And giving and giving and giving
What if one week in A finally asks if it's okay for them to take
What if B says yes, if A asks first and waits for permission
What if the first thing A asks for is to be held
What if it's one of the most awkward cuddles in the world, at first, because A's always been build for hugging and B's always been built to be hugged and B's arms aren't used to reaching out quite so expressively and A isn't used to curling up into a tiny ball for such a happy reason
What if they both start to wonder if this is what love actually feels like
What then?

REDISCOVERING HOW HOBBIES WORK 100 YEARS LATER GOTTA BE FUN
Arthur and art supplies that have become much more accessible and common!!! SOMEONE DEFINITELY GOT HIM ONE OF THOSE ART KITS FOR KIDS AND HE NEARLY CRIED WHEN THE MARKERS DIDN'T WORK UNTIL BESSIE, BLESS HER HEART, INFORMED HIM HE HAS TO PUT WATER IN THEM. You can't convince me that didn't happen xoxo
Javier and his guitar. The availability of different equipment in modern era. Straps, picks, RAINBOW STRINGS (proud owner of rainbow "training" strings here. i absolutely love them). ELECTRIC GUITARS. Even if he wouldn't like them a lot, he'd still marvel at how far guitars have come. That Hatsune Miku amp/effect unit/whatever that was i don't remember tbh. It ends up either with him or with Isaac.
Knitting!!!! Crocheting!!!! Someone definitely takes that up as a hobby!!!!!! and then cries at the cost of yarn. Curse of the love sweater is a thing they fear.
Gardening not for survival, but for fun. Like yeah we've talked abt plants before but definitely someone noticed those weird ass sets with small pots and different seeds in some dollar store. Someone definitely got it. For themselves or the kids.
That shit has to be healing for the soul you can't tell me otherwise my dear friend you cannot.
i love arthur and modern crafts. yes he bought a kiddy craft kit when he first timewarped because the concept of spending money on hobbies was new. but more than that - he never had the chance to explore mediums. bessie immediately offered to pay for decent watercolors and fancy markers and colored pencils but he insisted on the cheapest option and then was upset (which came across as aggressively frustrated) when they didn't work. bessie explained very softly about the markers being dipped in water and adored how much he still lit up like he was a kid when they started working
arthur even a decade into timewarp gets very flustered over people actually spending money to encourage his hobbies and interests at christmas (which is a gift-giving holiday he can't avoid, unlike his birthday). he gets very emotional over giving given expensive pencils because the idea of people 'wasting' money to encourage his creative pursuits still effects him
both bessie and hosea will frame the few drawings he gives them and hang them in their house. while he prefers drawing from life, he has drawn horseshoe overlook from memory and hosea can be caught staring at it nostalgically
javier tried an electric guitar for all of ten minutes before going no thank you.
he has 4 different guitars because he was a little addicted to the fact acoustic guitars could come in so many different woods and also patterns in modern era. rainbow string, straps, and stickers definitely, because a guitar was actually affordable and no longer a prized possession (on bessie's dime, they're all secondhand)
he has one is acoustic/electric hybrid that he only brings out when isaac is begging for a jam session, because isaac also knows guitar and is obsessed with electric for recording
he does admittedly love playing with music software. is garageband still a thing? sometimes he will plug in his one hybrid guitar and add his own bass and drum to hear an actual full song of one of his more original pieces
susan grimshaw is the first to try crochet and everyone has at least one crocheted animal in their house. karen, charles and kieran are all knitters. karen maintained the habit from canon era and always knits maeve a sweater before winter. kieran learned it because repetitive and a hell of a lot cheaper than his other hobbies, he uses the cheapest yarn and can only make scarves
charles got into it because something creative he can do with his hands like making his own arrows (he admits purchased arrows are more reliable despite still hunting with a bow when he goes camping). charles most strongly believed in the curse of the sweater but arthur wears his charles' knitted sweater very proudly.
kieran is an avid gardener. it was the first 'task' he was given to encourage him to leave his room and once noise-cancelling headphones are introduced most people look for him in the garden first. him and bessie lose entire weekends in the garden, weeding or checking soil phd. she will take time off work when the weather is right for planting saplings
gardening is one of kieran's hyperfixations where he will abandon asl to actively talk to people about gardening no matter what. for this reason jake adler is one of his favorite people, who is more of a survivalist, edibles only, but similarly obsessive gardener
lenny buys bought those kiddy diy indoor herb sets for maeve only to get into it when she neglected the plants and he took over. he appreciates being able to send jake+kieran a group message when a leaf on his basil looks weird and they reply with an essay of what the plant needs

watercolor mushrooms ❤️ get used to them lol I love mushrooms and rediscovered watercolors.
All of these are based on real mushrooms that naturally grow in Europe, by the way. I have a gorgeously illustrated book about them! I am improvising height and color, though.

The Bad Batch and arts and crafts hobbies
It’s October, and I’m in that mood. Here we go.
Hunter
If you guessed that he’s into carpentry, woodworking, and whittling, you’d be absolutely correct. He likes working his hands, and he’s good with knives. The amount of detail work involved with these hobbies helps him calm down and focus his senses.
Hunter likes to make intricate pieces for his family and friends, especially as gifts to mark significant events. The rest of the Batch all have tables and bookshelves that he made for them as they settled into a more peaceful life. His earlier efforts are rough, but his siblings love them regardless. Omega especially loves the (somewhat lopsided) desk that he made for her to do her schoolwork on.
He also picks up pottery as another way to focus and calm his senses down. Hunter is surprisingly good at working with clay and etching detailed designs into the pots, bowls, vases, and cups he creates. While he’s not going to be a standout master of the craft, he finds the process to be very therapeutic.
Crosshair
Crosshair can draw like there’s no tomorrow. (He designed all of the Batch’s tattoos.) In his retirement, he’s the most content with a sketch pad and some pencils, charcoal, or watercolors in hand. It’s not uncommon to find him stretched out somewhere and capturing something in his sketchbook.
While he has many sketchbooks tucked away on a bookshelf, Crosshair doesn’t always love to show his work to those outside his close circle. It’s a sign that he likes someone when he gifts them a personal sketch.
Crosshair is also an origami nerd. He appreciates the detail work that goes into folding paper into intricate shapes. This is a skill that he picked up many years ago and rediscovered in retirement. It becomes an open recurring joke that you can always find Crosshair by the trail of origami designs he leaves in his wake, if you look close enough. (He won’t say it out loud, but he likes the way people light up when they happen upon one of his little designs. Seeing his little efforts find new homes makes him happy.)
Tech
Guess who turns out to be good at glassblowing? Of course, it’s Tech. He finds the whole process to be fascinating and full of interesting possibilities. Tech can visualize what he’s going to create (and then actually create the thing) in a way that’s almost supernatural. The results of his efforts are always unique and beautiful.
He often enjoys talking with other glassblowers to learn about their processes and different methods. A byproduct of this effort is the growing number of little glass objects that rotate through the Batch’s house(s). Tech is always down to share his efforts with anyone who is expresses an interest in this hobby.
Tech also gets into metalwork. It’s a natural crafty hobby jump from glassblowing. Once he feels like he’s mastered it well enough, he starts combining them with his glassblowing. It’s not uncommon to find him putting up new pieces in trees around the neighborhood, situating them in ways that will catch the light.
Wrecker
Oh boy, Wrecker can sew with the best of them. You wouldn’t expect that from a man of his size, but he can. Sewing is something that requires him to slow down, stay focused, and be gentle with his efforts. He loves sewing so much and is often times found making puppets, toys, and other little things for the kiddos in his life. Things that he makes are extremely durable and have a habit of lasting for a long time.
Any time someone he knows welcomes a new child into their family, said new child gets a special blanket and little stuffy from their honorary Uncle Wrecker. (The stuffy design is always based on his Lula. That’s okay, because every kid loves Lula and should have their own.)
Wrecker also gets super into collages and scrapbooking. All he needs is a general idea for something and he can create the most perfect product. He pours his whole heart into preserving his family’s history. Making a collage or a scrapbook for someone is a sign of much he loves them.
Echo
Echo likes cross-stitching. He usually has some project tucked away somewhere to work on during lulls between missions and on long flights. It’s a good way to pass the time and to let his brain rest from the amount of electronic data he’s got going through his brain at any given time.
He likes creating little samplers of his brothers’ unique helmet designs and giving them those samplers. (It’s a mark of honor to get one of these from Echo.) Doing this is also a way he can memorialize the brothers they’ve lost over the years.
Echo is also a calligraphy nerd. Oh boy does he enjoy this craft as a hobby. It started as a way to train the fine motor control in his left hand after he got rescued from Skako Minor, but soon expanded from there. Being able to create a beautiful piece of calligraphy takes time, patience, and skill. Echo appreciates everything that goes into that and finds practicing this art to be rewarding. The fact that his efforts usually result in ridiculous puns and little shit insults is often left unsaid.
Omega
Omega didn’t have much external stimulation before she met the Batch. She would entertain herself by looking at images from anywhere that wasn’t Kamino and Tipoca City. Once she joined the Batch, she discovered the art of photography and never looked back.
It took her brothers a while to get used to being her initial subjects. They weren’t used to having someone take their pictures. However, that wore off when they saw the candid photos Omega took of them. She captures them as they are away from the battlefield and when they’re happy as a family. Her favorite subjects to photograph are people who are just living their lives. She loves to show how wonderful ordinary people and lives are.
Omega also takes up crocheting as a way to pass the time during long flights. She’s a growing kid with a lot of energy, so having something to occupy her hands and mind really helps her. Plus, all her brothers wind up with many special blankets from her. She’ll often hang out with Wrecker as he’s sewing or mending something. (He cries when she gives him her first successful crocheted project, a rather lopsided replica of Lula. Wrecker doesn’t mind that this crocheted doll is a bit lumpy in places. Omega made it for him, and that’s what matters the most.)
