amity is diagnosed adhd so she is prone to talking real fast and being super scatterbrained
her and her ex riley delgato dated when they were 16-19 but broke up when amity decided to pursue college in los angeles.
she went to UCLA for a visual art program and graduated when she was twenty one, she's been on and off touring with her band since and has been working as an apprentice tattooer for six months now.
part two: questionnaire.
start at the beginning, who are you and why are you important? there's a soft chuckle that falls from her lips before she rolls her eyes slightly. "important? i don't know about that but i'm amity dimarco and i'm the vocalist of valkyrie." her soft full lips shined with gloss as she smiled and tilted her head.
how long have you been making music? "god my whole life, literally!" there was a soft smile that formed on her lips before she continued on. "that's kinda what happens when you grow up around it. it's just always a part of you."
how would you describe the kind of music you make? the smirk on her features persists as she thinks of a way to answer this question indirectly first. "i would describe it as not for the faint of heart... so yeah heavy." she chuckles at the fact that she couldn't maintain her composure. "big grimey riffs and deep heavy bass and thudding drums you know. that's what i need."
what is the first record you ever bought? "you know i don't think i actually ever bought myself a record till after i moved to LA on my own because i just never needed to buy records." amity giggles to herself softly as she realises this. "i mean we always had so many records in our house and if we wanted something our parents either already had it or all we had to do was ask for it. so i think what happened was one day i was at a market in the city and this older woman had all these records out and they were all in really good condition i mean she really looked after them. and in them there was all these really unique artists from different countries, so i pulled out all kinds of different music. there was reggae and soul and funk records. i still listen to them all the time."
what are some stand out moments from your career so far? "i definitely think being able to present an award for the sonic alternative awards last year with my band. you know it's such an honour to be nominated and win but also to be able to be a part of that experience in giving that to someone else is really cool and i just love it, that energy it's really fun."
how would you describe your style of performance? what makes your shows worth seeing? "i think when you're playing heavy music especially there's this culture of play heavy, act heavy y'know? and it's like that's so fun and i love being able to give those aspects of myself an outlet, like the parts of me that need that space to get heavy and just scream it all out but i think what sets our shows apart is that willingness to dig deeper and get heavy and vulnerable, right? like let all that bullshit out in whatever way you need and just have this space to feel the music together.
what’s next for you? "honestly?" she smiled fondly again, "i'm really enjoying learning to tattoo and it's a really good artistic outlet for me. i love to draw and paint and you know it's a passion of mine so to be able to give people the gift of art on their bodies that's really special for me. the band will keep making music and we'll tour more but you know we all like to do our own things in between."

Book 29, 2023
As an old person on the internet, I'm always prepared to talk about how things were Back in the Day. For example, once upon a time if you wanted to communicate with an audience, you used paragraphs with words and maybe some pictures, instead of podcasts or long videos of a presentable nerd talking in front of a greenscreen. A lot of things killed that, but some people know what they're good at, and in 2020 shortly before the pandemic hit, Old Internet Legend Seanbaby and recently unemployed Cracked.com editor Robert Brockway launched a site for longform comedy writing supported by patreon, 1900HOTDOG. While it's great to see writers still forcing a place for themselves on the internet into existence, one of the best things is that it's introduced me to writers who aren't Old Internet.
One of those writers is Dennard Dayle. You can't read the article that made me fall in love with Dennard's writing, about the H.P. Lovecraft noir mess "The Horror at Redhook", for free, but you may also enjoy his article on this tabletop system by a metal band murder Nazi or Mark Miller's astonishingly bad Batman parody thing, Nemesis. I liked Dennard's writing so much that I bought his debut collection of short fiction "Everything Abridged".
Primarily satire with a futurist slant, the stories are integrated into a shitposter's answer to Bierce's "The Devil's Dictionary", short definitions of words infused with humour high and low, easy and sly, flippant and furious. They're a nice way of giving you a feel for the author's voice and areas of interest. But the meat is obviously in the stories.
I feel like a lot of modern attempts at satire get muddled in parody, while those leaning into futurism and cyberpunk lean so far into the subject that the contemporary criticism gets lost or easily overlooked. Dayle infuses most of the stories in the collection with protagonists who have real, relatable sadness or ennui or frustration on a scale much smaller than surveillance states or space nuclear arms races that keep you from being distracted by 'whoa cool laser'. Space colonization: rad. Less rad: gentrification and segregation but on a galactic scale. Bionic body parts: rad. Less rad: your cool bionic eye enabling you to work really efficiently at your government censorship desk job that you hate. It's a good mix of things and it's just great to see new authors finding ways to get short fiction on bookshelves.
But my favourite story isn't any of that, it's just two pages and called "Kidney Beans". It's a recipe the protagonist's mother used to make and his attempt to make it for a family gathering. It's a little gut punch that tells me Dayle's got a lot to offer in his future work. I'm excited to see it.

As the latest fourth chapter of my book “AMANDI: The Secret Messenger” rolls out tomorrow, here’s a bunch of fanart I’ve made to help me overcome writer’s block.
Remember how Ryoko Kui tend draw her characters in modern settings to establish their personalities? I kind of find that helpful, too. I often think about my characters and imagine them doing random stuff (sometimes it involves what I do in real life).
By the way, the images above are something I thought about if Dungeon Meshi was an edgier show on Adult Swim where Kabru and his friends hunt down monsters. He would be like Michael Myers from “Halloween” who can appear out of nowhere and kill them instantly. Laios gets chased down by Kabru a lot for pissing him off.
I was thinking of having “Cure 4 Psycho” by the Australian band RedHook as one of the main theme song for the show.

Redhook Drop New Heavy Track, 'Scream 2' Single
RedHook have dropped one of their heaviest singles to date, and their first of 2024, with ‘Scream 2’. The new track was conceptualised as a sequel to the band’s 2020 single ‘Cure 4 Psycho’ and is a anthemic new tune that packs a deeper, defiant message. As vocalist Emmy Mack has explained: “‘Scream 2’ is the next chapter in a painfully relatable horror story for anyone who has survived…
