This map is extremely interesting to me, because the place called Redhill (one of the circled names) has an area called Earlswood, and I'm wondering if that's where they say Phantomhive Manor is located. Or is the manor closer to Reading, where there's an area called Earley? 🤔 😆 And then Brighton (also circled) is where they are headed. I'll post more about this later.

It looks like the above part is about Baldo taking a ship from America to England, soon after Sebastian visited him to enlist him.

Then something below, about Lau.

There are two Redhill pubs in the GBG which I should add to my list given the number of times I’ve been to them.

Pub 6: The Sun (Redhill) - A Wetherspoons in the middle of town that I’ve been too more times than I can count. It had a great range of beers (most of the time) and is good value

Pub 7: The Garibaldi (Redhill) - This is part of my occasional Redhill pub crawl (Hatch - Garibaldi - Garland - Sun) and is a great pub that normally showcases at least one dark beer. Last time I was there the mint flavoured Matchmaker Sleigh Puft Porter was a real winner

About all that's missing here is the cover art without the titles. I'll give some commentary here, but there will be more posts later.

They are taking a train from Reading to Brighton, but I don't know why or how they were in Reading. As I mentioned in a previous spoiler post, they were at Lau's opium den, which is located in Limehouse district, in East London. Reading is quite a ways off to the west.

They get on the train at Reading, and there's a stop on the way to Brighton at Redhill. I was looking online earlier for Redhill and Reading, and I found that Reading has an area called Earley, while Redhill has an area called Earlswood. It's commonly accepted that Phantomhive Manor is generally west of London, in the outskirts. But how far out? And just west... or northwest or southwest? Either of these places could be near the manor.

Anyway, they somehow got first class tickets, even though last chapter our earl said they were broke. Also, they are supposed to be in hiding, as they are fugitives from the law. This pic might have them sitting in silence, worried they might be found before the train even leaves the station. Once they get going, they might be a bit safer.

Sebastian is full of snark this chapter. He suggests our earl go eat some breakfast in the dining car. When our earl points out it's unwise, Sebastian basically says they won't be looking there because they wouldn't expect him to be so bold.

In the dining car, they are serving a full English breakfast. As I said before, I see: beans, bacon, sausages, mashed potatoes, sliced mushrooms, a couple slices of what would probably be blood sausage (as a couple people have pointed out, this is commonly called "black pudding" in the UK), a tomato slice, and a sprig of parsley. I'm wondering if the parsley was included as a joke, that if you add something like parsley or rosemary sprigs, all of a sudden it's fancy. 😆

Sebastian openly talks about humans (again) as if he's not one, when he's supposed to be pretending he is. 🙄 And he's telling our earl to eat so he won't be slow to think or move, if they need to think and act fast. He needs this human to be ready for whatever's next.

'Crumbling concrete' keeps Redhill's Harlequin Theatre closed

Mum preferred her noodles so I got the takeaway (S$5 + S$0.30 container) Minced Meat Noodle (肉脞面) from 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles at Sun Plaza. Hers is mee pok (面薄), characterized by its flat and yellow appearance and not the usual mee kia (幼面) or thin yellow noodles. The dry style noodles came with meat balls, fish dumpling, braised mushrooms, sliced and minced pork garnished with a whole lot of spring onions.

A few stalls away, I ordered my burgers from Ordinary Burgers. For the first one, I took up the Classic Beef Burger Meal (S$10.60) which adds French fries and a can of drink for S$3 extra. A freshly grilled smashed beef patty, made with 100% premium farm raised Australian beef and topped with Australian sauce. No idea what they meant by Australian sauce but it tasted like ketchup and mayonnaise with a dash of chilli powder in it.

The Spicy Chicken Burger (S$6) came with a crispy flour battered chicken, flash fried golden and marinated in a blend of hot sauce with a dash of purple mayo and fresh lettuce. While the patty is juicy and lightly spicy, the exterior looks over-fried. The purple mayonnaise seems more like a gimmick and tasted just like the plain white version.
