While Temple is starting up his freelancer hunt, he finds information about The Alpha’s human host… and where it’s buried. He digs up αChurch, an ai that’s been stuck in an abandoned base for years at this point, alone and deteriorating, but still more whole than the fragments ever were, trapped in an unmoving decomposed corpse. He digs him up, has his teammates make him an ai body, and team up with a mutual hatred for the freelancers and the project, especially Washington in αChurch’s case. But he caught himself, and played off the wobble as merely switching which hand he was balancing on, which did give him a line of sight on the speaker. “Hi Donut,” Neko grinned, switching the angles of his legs to see the sim trooper better. “I had no idea you were so flexible!” Donut beamed, watching Neko shift his weight ever so slightly. “You could be in a circus with skills like this!” He shouldn’t, Neko reminded himself, because it was rude to lie apparently, but…sometimes it was just too easy. “So, funny story about that—“

-Sarge and Pavoz-

Sarge wasn’t really paying attention to him, Anton realized. He leaned out of the way of an arm swinging out with a broad gesture as Sarge recounted a story about Agent Washington and someone called the Meta— how much of it was accurate, Pavoz would have to confirm with Agent Washington another time. But for now? He watched Sarge’s face and spun his good pen- the one that had been a gift- between his fingers, and started drawing.

“I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Hughs misunderstood something when he said you needed my help with the Warthog,” Soares said. Lopez pushed himself out from under the body of the vehicle to look up at the medic. She raised an eyebrow at him, visible only because she wore her under-armor suit and not her actual armor. She must’ve been off duty. Lopez would almost feel bad for interrupting- almost. He didn’t actually feel that bad. “<Yeah. It’s not the warthog i need help with,>” He stood, and gestured for Soares to follow him to one of the other parked cars. Lopez crouched, and waited for her to do the same before he lifted the hood. Portuguese may have been a different language than Spanish, but being fluent in cousin languages meant that there was some understanding. Certainly better than whatever Donut claimed to understand of Spanish. But Lopez was a man robot of few words, so he instead opted to point at the problem instead of explaining. “Are those… teeth marks??” “<You tell me.>”

Has anyone gone through and listened to all the drafts and scrapped music on the albums recovery I and II because I just did (it's out by the way)

And I have so many questions. I spent a whole at least 5 hour call with my partner analysing and theorising about them.

Because the use of motifs and references to other songs and styles of music so important to other seasons had me tripping.

Trocadero has such a beautiful way of writing music that allows you to immediately associate a song with a character (or multiple) and different seasons.

Sometimes these can just be musical references but they actually mean a LOT.

Which has me theorising like crazy.

Especially since some of the repeated or referenced motifs were both versions of the 'metas' them (the actual theme associated with him and the one that's more or less just used as a danger theme during the series.

And elements of 'Searchlights' which if you know the track is often played during darker moments (most of the time related to epsilon, and really mostly used during season 8)

I love how the "danger theme" changes with seasons. Like how in the chorus trilogy we come to associate Locus's sting with danger and obviously with him.

But the fact that one of the drafts or scrapped songs had a build up, with elements of locus's musical motif before shifting into the Meta's theme then going into a mix of the two

Has me thinking that Locus obsession with the Meta may have originally taken a completely different turn. What if he wore the suit?

This has me losing my mind currently

(also the scrapped songs for season 14 sound like they could have been from club or we could have gotten a club Errera episode with York and Carolina? There's also just a super interesting song that shifts through multiple different music styles and has me questioning what it would have been for)

Maybe some of these were in the show and I missed them but please I need to talk to SOMEONE about this.

I finally got around to Restoration and overall really liked it, but I do have my notes:

It's really cool they brought back Tex at all but it felt a little :(( They memory unit-ed her... The Chex is pretty good though, and it's aconnect message/theming.

Also It felt like they brought back Carolina just for her to get curb stomped and give a speech. Feels like she should have been brought in a lot sooner and have a slightly bigger presence. Wash was also present but didn't really... do much either tbh.

Donut should have been there if the Shizno stuff was retconned. He deserves relevance like the rest of red team, there's zero reason why He just wasn't there. Justice for my boy.

Also Justice for Doc Jeez. While a decent twist, It's unfair what they did to Doc.

Finally Tucker. I'm a little mix bc He got so much spotlight in the series, especially Chorus, that having him be the unwilling antagonist (and thus a bit more out of focus to make room for the reds + Caboose) felt appropriate. BUT, at the same time, I felt they didn't do enough. He went through Hell, he deserves a lil more presence and bed-side manner.

Finally: Needs more Grimmons.

Anyways despite all these gripes, I overall really liked the movie. Got those classic vibes and I had fun watching it. The other critiques about it I've seen are right tho lmao.

thoughts on ct's fighting style and her position in pfl because I can (utc bc it's long lol):

okay so I like to jokingly refer to myself as THE wash meta/analysis guy, but I also absolutely love ct if anyone wasn't aware (she's my 2nd fav character behind wash if you couldn't tell lol), but as much as I love her it's honestly pretty difficult to write any sort of 'objective' meta or analysis posts about her because we don't know shit about her. so while this is meant to be a companion piece of sorts to this wash post, I just wanted to make it clear that a lot of this post is going to be based around my personal interpretation of ct (though I will try and be as objective as possible where I can be).

so much like wash, I think ct is also fairly unique among the freelancers for a few different reasons. one of them is that she's one of the few freelancers to wear a unique set of armor instead of the usual mark iv, and I think that ct's armor can actually tell us quite a bit about her skill set and what kind of role she possibly held. ct wears the eod helmet and chest which is primarily designed for protection from explosives, but when it comes to ct the more important information is that the eod armor was designed with less available grabbing surface than other armor variants. she also wears the scout shoulders, which is a variant that is focused on stealth capabilities.

from this information, we can easily deduce that ct's skill set primarily revolves around be slippery and sneaky, and when paired with what we see in the show it's pretty clear that ct is an intelligence operative. I think that ct is specifically a cyber operations specialist, and that prior to being recruited for freelancer she worked in ONI's section one (the actual intelligence gathering sector of ONI that is used by other UNSC branches).

another unique aspect about ct is that she is the only freelancer to consistently arm herself very lightly, with her primary weapon(s) of choice being two M6G magnums, and her other weapon(s) being two combat knives. this goes inline with what I've said above, and due to how lightly she arms herself I believe that ct generally isn't involved in any heavy combat scenarios. this point is supported by team b's failure to retrieve the briefcase with the access code during the heist in s9 (seriously, who tf thought it was a good idea to put 2 snipers and an intelligence operative all together as one team for a smash and grab retrieval mission??).

now to actually break down the whole 1.5 fights ct has in s10, I think that she probably somewhat shares wash's more grounded and pragmatic approach to combat as a whole, with the exception of her preference for duel wielding (which I personally headcanon is a thing she chooses to do because it makes her feel like an action/spy movie protagonist).

in both of her fight scenes ct seems to rely very heavily on her ability to plan ahead and get the jump on her opponents to take them by surprise (dropping from the ceiling to take out the two marines when she met up with the innie leader in the scrap yard, and using her armor enhancement to conceal her real position which allowed her to pin tex's arm behind her back), and I think it's safe to say that she probably isn't the kind of cqc fighter than can mow people down left and right like carolina can.

as mentioned above, I think ct's main goal is to take her opponents out in the quickest, quietest, and most efficient ways possible, much like a spy or an assassin, and while her loadout is great when she is in ideal circumstances where she's able to sneak around and avoid unnecessary combat, I don't think it's very good when it comes to drawn out encounters. we see this in her fight against tex and carolina, as while she handled herself pretty well it seemed like the longer the fight lasted the sloppier ct ended up getting, and eventually she made enough minor mistakes that carolina was able to knock her off her feet and disarm her in a single move, and tex, who was now aware of ct's armor enhancement, was able to cut her down.
