Showed my boyfriend the photos from Cedar Point again last night because he couldn't remember his face, and he made a comment about how much weight I've lost since our trip. We're going again next year and I realized I have the opportunity to take the funniest before and after photos
#weight loss#cedar point#I was JUST BARELY able to fit on most coasters the last time we went#I was too big for Millennium Force#Idk about TT2 because it was still down#Riding Millennium has been my biggest health and fitness inspiration#And also how sore I got walking around the park#My goal is to ride everything next year... Without the red belt#Only 20lbs to go til I'm “ride safe” as it were (under 200lbs)

A shudder ripples up Yelena’s spine. She quickly turns from her perch on the picnic table bench, and spits red ice onto the dirt. She hacks up the offending treat, before turning back to the concerned girl sitting across from her.
Kate’s face is twisted up in a knot, “Hey, are you okay? Did you choke or something?”
”What was that?” Yelena manages to cough out, grabbing a napkin from the table and trying to scrub the sticky flavor off her face.
Now Kate frowns: “You said you liked snowcones. I got you the tiger’s blood, that’s what you asked for right?”
“This is poison,” Yelena pushes the melting cup of disgusting towards Kate, “It is not how I remember it.”
Kate considers this, and uses her spoon stained in banana flavoring (Yelena did explicitly tell her she wouldn’t kiss Kate again until after she brushed her teeth of that flavor) to test Yelena’s snowcone. She swallows, and shakes her head, “This is it, the three flavors for one combo.”
Yelena pouts and insists, “No, it is not. It was different, better.”
”Well when did you have it last?” Kate flicks her sunglasses over her eyes, peering up behind the lenses in an attempt at playing detective. All Yelena can think about is the way Kate’s mouth is stained artificially red and maybe tiger's blood would taste like it was supposed to on her lips. Then Kate says: “You know your tastebuds change when you get old.”
”Cyka,” Yelena growls and snatches the glasses from Kate’s face. She slips them on. Kate doesn’t attempt to take them back, just squints the sun out of her eyes as punishment. Except it isn’t really a punishment - Kate loves it when Yelena wears her sunglasses. Yelena plays absently with the spoon in the barely solid snowcone, “I don’t know. Must of been Ohio.”
That’s always Yelena’s answer when she ends up hating something she allegedly loved. Kate doesn’t hold it against her, but she can’t understand it either. At first she thinks it’s just nostalgia. Kate catches herself falling into that trap sometimes: the mall, sick days, McDonald's fries (nope, that one still holds up). Kate thinks Yelena just has her Ohio childhood on a pedestal - which, again, completely fair with all things considered.
Kate starts doubting Yelena experiences Regular People Nostalgia when she says she wants to go back to Cedar Point. The best Kate can do is take her to Coney Island. Kate doesn’t say anything when they walk past a warning for minimum height requirement. She doesn’t say anything when her brain absently notices that a six year old Yelena could not have made it on the ride. Maybe Ohio had even less rules than Coney Island. Who was Kate to know? Yelena throws up after the first roller coaster. She’s a curious shade of white when she practically shoves Kate out of her way, beelining towards the trash can. Her aversion to rollercoasters is very funny with all things considered.
Sometimes Yelena will be restless. She paces and sighs and opens the cabinet doors over and over and over and over again. Kate doesn’t know what she’s looking for. She just knows Yelena never finds it. She’s usually mumbling, “I was doing something.” She’ll pace off again, come back, sigh. “I just can’t remember..” The thing is, Yelena is very good at not remembering what she is doing outside of a mission. The other thing is that Yelena is very good at making up what she was supposed to be doing. Kate suspects it’s the same way Yelena is very good at filling the gaps in her memory.
Kate thinks about how badly Yelena must want these things to turn them into her reality. She thinks about how a six year old little girl had time to become the greatest child assassin the world has ever known and carefully craft an entire imaginary normal life. She thinks about how another version of Yelena went to Cedar Point, had sticky tiger’s blood dripping from her chin, camped in her backyard with her sister, sat through family dinner every night, failed math class in eighth grade, broke her arm doing a backflip on the trampoline, spent her summers traversing the world on family vacations. Kate likes that Yelena just as much as this one.
Sadness sours this Yelena’s face. There’s a deep loneliness that would rival the sprawling desert. Kate says, “Ohio probably puts cherry in it instead of strawberry.”
Yelena perks up, “That must be why I remember it different.”
“Maybe we try something new next time,” Because Kate wants to stop waking in the middle of the night to half-muffled sobs coming from the bathroom after every failed attempt of Yelena trying to reconcile reality and delusion. Whatever Yelena wants to be real should be.

also what was your craziest coaster experience and what was it like? your best? worst? most memorable?
Craziest was definitely Fury 325 at Carowinds in the rain at night. Going 95 mph through the rain is not the most pleasant experience but it was really funny when we hit the break run and my brother and I just looked at each other and were both like “I have regrets” lmao. But I don’t regret it, it was really funny lol
Best experience overall would probably be back row night rides on either Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point or Wildcat’s Revenge at Hersheypark. Steel Vengeance is overall the better ride imo, but the aggressive layout of Wildcat’s Revenge when it’s dark and you can’t see where you’re going is just absolutely amazing
Worst experience might be the one time I rode Swamp Fox at Family Kingdom in Myrtle Beach, SC. That thing was just so unbelievably rough and jackhammered throughout the entire layout and left me with a KILLER headache for like an hour afterwards. Would only ride again if they’ve re-tracked some of it since the one time I rode it in 2019
Most memorable experiences are probably either Fury in the rain as mentioned, like 5 laps on Intimidator at Carowinds early in the morning just full of wonderful smooth floater airtime all the way through, or this one experience I had on Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point with my friend. So before it got it’s renovation into Top Thrill 2 over these past few years, they’d have like dragster engine revving sound effects playing before you launched. My friend and I were on the red train (which will be relevant in a sec lol) and we were waiting on the launch track when suddenly the sound effects cut out. We ended up sitting there for like five minutes expecting that the ride ops would just reverse us back into the station to have us get off and close the ride for maintenance. So when a voice came over the loudspeaker, that’s what we expected it to say. But when they said “Attention red train, you will be launching in four seconds!” that only gave enough time for my friend and I to look at each other and say “WHAT??” before we went hurtling down the launch track at 120 mph lmao. Definitely a very memorable experience and part of the reason the original Dragster was one of my all time favorite coasters <33
#thank u for all the asks today Bea these have been fun to answer :]#TacTalks#asks#answered#FaaarAwayyy#coasterposting

Hazel Till (she/her). District Seven Mentor. 96 Victor. 31. Tracy Spiridakos.
Luck in district seven was a length of rope and no one could ever guess the length. Hazel was lucky once. She lived on it for ten years. It tasted like freshly bled maple syrup and smelled like shaved cedar. Her mother was a cook for the district's mayor and her father a carpenter. And, always, there was her older brother Jack. He was five years the senior. At once both annoyingly present and sorely missed. Those days remain to her only in sensory details, the colors bleached. She remembers afternoons in the workshop and mornings by the stove. For childhoods in Panem it was both indulgently long and viciously short.
The end came while she was sleeping and it didn't wake her. She'd have slept on till morning, unaware of the gunshot or the tears if not for Jack. He pulled her from the sheets and under the bed. He pressed a hand against her mouth to force the fear back in. Five hours later, when the sun rose like a red blister above the trees Hazel's father was dead. She never got the full story from Jack and it didn't matter. Stories have a way of outlasting people. In short, her mother had an admirer in peacekeeper attire. Liquor and opportunity did the rest. Her father stepping between them was good for nothing but target practice. That was autumn and by spring grief and guilt took their mother. One bullet. Two lives. Hazel thinks now that they were her first witness marks.
At fifteen, her brother inherited a business and a home. The latter was lost within the year and the former in two. Jack didn't have the hands of a builder or the patience. The hope for that legacy had rested with Hazel, but there were no more hopes to apprentice. There was hardly a hope for survival. They moved into abandoned housing without running water or electricity and made due with what they could. Hazel learned the taste of tree bark and how it might soothe an empty stomach for an hour or two. She learned the smell of rot. While Jack worked as a lumberjack, she bargained away her father's pieces. In this, grief became just another price tag. It was survival made bearable only by each other's companionship. They were bound tighter with every tesserae Jack took out; by every tesserae he refused her.
The caution was all for nothing. At thirteen, with a grand total of two entries in the reaping bowl, her name was plucked. At that age, she was skinny. She's seen the footage of herself, winced at the sharp jut of collarbones below her yellow collar. There's a distinct look all prey animals wear, it's a skin that human's can slip into. It's a skin that the children of Panem wear twice a year. The abstract fear of the games became a reality in an instant.
Jack could have volunteered for her, but he didn't. He waited for that second name before stepping forward. On the footage, he doesn't look like prey. He's tall and eighteen with sunken cheekbones and anger in the set of his lips. She hadn't known him, she never got the chance to fully understand. Jack Till, a brother who'd rather weigh his sister's odds in the games then the districts. It was his gamble and, as it turned out, his luck had always been better than hers.
They arrived at the capitol with a story. It was all a tribute needed in the end. The narrative set forth by the team was executed beautifully. Hazel dressed down to look more childish and Jack dressed in strong lines like a sentinel. A guard. He pushed her toward survival skills during training and told her to play the sweetheart for the interview. The capitol ate it up, and the sympathetic sponsors poured their wallets into seven's account. For Hazel, it was a like taking one breath at the reaping and then being swept down the river. She didn't take another for quite some time.
The games that year were held in an abandoned amusement park. The rides were faulty and temperamental. A roller coaster would run without warning, the teacups would start and stop like a scratched record, cotton candy spun endlessly at the food court caused hallucinations, and the hall of mirrors would reflect you as a rotten corpse. They launched on an enormous merry-go-round with all the goods and weapons at the center. The bloodbath was a mess of confusion with a sliding floor and plastic horses dropping in and out of your path. Hazel remembers bumping into a small boy from eleven and then watching him get killed moments later by a career. She remembers running and running and sticking to the plan. Get to high ground.
That meant the carousel. The climb was the most harrowing of Hazel life, but she squirreled away in a carriage and spent that first night alone scanning the sky. The next morning, Jack found her. Their roost high above the arena was ideal even if the ride clicked on at random times. Jack scouted for food in the blue hours of the morning and for a few days things worked like clockwork. That was until a tribute from twelve got the idea to hide in the carousel as well. When he locked in on them, a fight broke out a hundred feet above the ground. It was a fight Jack might have lost had Hazel not gotten the nerve to give the boy a solid kick to the shin. The pain and shock, along with Jack sent the boy down to a hard and quick death. The hovercraft that came to collect the boy alerted the career pack to search their area and they were forced to abandon the shelter.
They survived, as they had in seven, together. One shelter given up for the next and rest snatched where it could. Sponsors sent them food and one, iconically sent Hazel a child sized mallet with a blue and pink checkerboard pattern. Mutts released on the fifth day in the shape of demented carnival animals left Hazel with nasty scratches and Jack with a festering bite wound. The career pack ran into trouble with the raw combination of cotton candy and mutts. As others died, Hazel didn't feel hope only mounting dread. She knew the plan brewed up in Jack's mind. When there were only five, including them, left Jack went on the offensive. She's seen his attacks in the highlights. He was brutal. There was a satisfaction in those final hours, a sense of pride that turns her stomach even today. In real time, he stashed her away before each kill and set her out of eyesight. The last death took the better part of a day. It was a hunt for a boy only fifteen years old and injured. She thinks about him too often.
And then there were two. It was an ideal storyline for the games, and one the gamemakers were salivating to twist. They'd seen the writing on the wall and prepared for the possibility of a sibling finale. Jack's mutt bite had left him with a ticking timebomb and with a few lines of code and a marvel of bioscience he was feral. He turned on Hazel and what commenced was a six hour fox and hound chase. Real terror, Hazel learned that day, tastes like metal in the mouth. By all rights she should have died, but the hall of mirrors provided just enough confusion. She was exhausted and terrified and starving and when he came near she didn't think, she just gripped her mallet and swung. One hit didn't do the job. Ten did.
No glorious hovercraft raised her from the hall of mirrors. Peacekeepers came to remove her when she refused to leave Jack's body. When she swung at them they sedated her like a wild animal.
She was crowned, paraded, and celebrated.
She came out of the games as Panem's favored orphan. Before victory, not a peacekeeper in seven could be bothered to give a starving child the time of day. Now her guardianship was handed over to a big name sponsor. For Calanthe Price, she was a favored trinket to be passed around parties. She kept a smile on her face and clenched fist in her pocket. Those she let close, were inevitably other victors and kind stylists or escorts. Well-behaved wasn't the right word for her though. Birthday bashes held at Calanthe's expense often ended in mysterious and costly mishaps. A fire, or flooding, and one eventual sixteenth a small explosion. (District three victors and fireworks mixed well.) Her favor with her guardians waned quickly when she was no longer a sweet, young thing. Well-fed finally, she matured quickly and set her mind toward independence. And, at eighteen, she graduated into what some might call freedom. To her, it was a home in seven and a decreasing popularity.
Eventually, at twenty-five, she was able to retire from mentoring. She went home and built herself a workshop. In time, she taught herself her father's craft. It turned out that legacy, that story, did have more chapters. She was a bit of a recluse with no one to share her big victor's home with, but she was far from idle. Her handcrafted, signature furniture became a statement in Panem. To the capitol, she sold pieces at exorbitant prices. To friends in the districts they were gifts. Time away from the noise of the capitol, opened her to the whispers of rebellion in the districts. Her contribution to the cause came with her carvings and furniture. Each slab of wood she transformed into a sculpture or a bit of furniture came with a secret compartment. Perfect for hiding weapons or correspondence, perfect for smuggling things between district lines.
It was a tricky bit of business for one so unlucky. When Hazel came home to her workshop on fire and a bouquet of roses she was hardly surprised. Her orders were clear. Cameras in her home, a new (heavily overseen) workspace in the capitol, and a return to mentorship. Two decades later she wasn't afraid. She wasn't prey. She knew her story would outlive her. She knew to make it a good one.
Personality:
There are two sides to Hazel. The business side that knows how to chat with a sponsor and can choke down the taste of bile. The side, that learned the Price family the value of a smile and the words 'tell me more'. The second, more sincere part of herself is naturally quieter and more guarded. She's got a sharp bit of snark and a strong sense of herself. To those who know her well, she goes by Haz. If pressed, they'd call her loyal to a fault and laser focused.
Positive: Persistent, adaptable, loyal
Negative: fatalistic, reclusive, blunt

THEORY: Taylor Swift’s albums represent a linear story about riding a roller coaster.
Ok first off this theory may sound ridiculous or weird but trust me by the end you’ll be convinced that Taylor Swift is secretly a lyrical genius in her subtle storytelling skills in creating a unique and diverse world.
So my first piece of evidence would begin at the beginning of the story, with her debut album Taylor Swift (2006). As we can decipher from the lack of fonts present and no other promotions associated with it, this has to be the entry sign to a roller coaster called Taylor swift, with her epxression being that of apprehension because most people are apprehensions about riding a roller coaster????
My case in point.
So my next piece of evidence stems from her 2008 album “Fearless”. This seems to be a reference to how most people psych themselves up as they feel they are fearless and can easily tackle this baby coaster! They go through the line and are really excited as evidenced by the titles of songs like “Love story” which is about a person who loves a roller coaster and “The Best Day” which can only be about how much fun it is to go to an amusement park.
The next piece of the theory then transitions over to 2010′s “Speak Now” (which by the way is a LYRICAL MASTERPIECE THAT WAS WRITTEN BY JUST ONE PERSON (TAYLOR HERSELF) BUY IT NOW) and my theory for this one is that Taylor is saying that after we try to convince ourselves that we’re fearless to ride we get to the station and begin to load up the trains to ride, referencing the classic phrase “speak now or forever hold your peace” which in this context may refer to holding your peace and not leaving the ride at the last second cause you’re a wuss or something like that idk. Also the song title “long live” seems to be pointing to how you would want the ride to be a long lasting one and you hope to have the time of your life riding coasters with you.
MY next piece of evidence is for her 2012 album RED, which is a fall classic, may point in to us clues about the specifics of this roller coaster itself. The idea of red being an overarching theme may allude to blood in the human body as people blush from fear or panic as they go up the lift hill. The title may give it away that the color of the track supports are Red, with the song lyrics of Red tell us that they may range from green in “Holy Ground” to Dark Grey in “Red”. This clues us in to the fact that a large amount of roller coasters are red due to its seemingly intimidating design and frightful imagery.
A collection of different red roller coasters that taylor may be alluding to throughout the album.
Next we have her blockbuster album 1989, a well written journey of pop and culture, with the date serving as a double entendre for both her birth year and more importantly!! The year Magnum XL-200 was built at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. This record breaking roller coaster was the first of its kind to go over 200 feet, and is generally considered by most enthusiasts to be the very coaster that began the roller coaster wars, a period in which manufacturers and amusement parks began to try and outdo each other in several different roller coaster categories from height to speed to length in order to gain as much publicity and attendance as possible. This may clue us in to the nature of the coaster further, with the lyrics describing fun and wild times that seem to never go out of style or coming straight from your wildest dreams, which may be descriptions of how it feels to ride a roller coaster. Also, the nature of the title may indicate that this roller coaster is record breaking and fun.
Finally, we have her newest album, Reputation. This album fits into the story by incorporating the use of magazines and discussing media and its attempts to generate publicity and how it impacts her and her relationships, a possible reference to how the roller coaster is stirring up press coverage due to how well known and intense it is. Also, the photographs contained throughout in its packaging and imagery may indicate an onride photograph section that people may purchase after the ride has come to a complete stop, indicating that now you are off the ride and have a lot to say about it regarding its reputation, for better or for worse.
With the help of Taylor Swift, you may have lots to say about the next time you go on a roller coaster, with a lot of albums to express those emotions as well!

Coaster Enthusiast!4*Town Flashfic??
Because I said so >:-(
Original Post
Getting invited to media events was not a rare occurrence for Aaron Z., not since his content had started to gain traction. Despite most of his footage consisting of off-ride stuff, things that definitely looked better when more people were in the park, he still ended up wandering parks with other notable enthusiasts on off-days.
He was actually pretty surprised when he got invited to an enthusiast event at Cedar Point, not because it was exclusive or anything, but because it was Cedar Point, the park not only famous for being incredibly busy, but for operating in the off-season as well. It wasn't everyday a 365 day park closed for the media, and it definitely wasn't something he would miss.
Plus, being vaguely eastern meant he was closer to Great Adventure. Being in Ohio meant he was that much closer to New Jersey.
Despite all that, Aaron Z. had strayed away from the group. They were an eclectic group, mostly hanging around Gatekeeper and Raptor for the time being.
As was usual for him, he'd wandered into Frontier Town. It was bizarre how much bigger the walkway looked when it was empty, a once in a lifetime sight if he had to guess. It's not like Frontier Town was home to just any coasters after all.
He wasn't interested in Steel Vengeance, not yet at least. The RMC beauty stood tall and daunting, magnificent in its grandeur. It still felt new to him, despite it being four years since Mean Streak stood in that spot.
No, the coaster he'd really come this way to ride stood much shorter, a striking red Intimin blitz. Maverick wasn't new either, hell, it opened in 2007, but there was a certain face he'd been expecting to see, and if he wasn't with the media, it meant he was probably working.
Sure enough, after ascending the stairs to Maverick's station, he caught sight of a familiar head of brown hair, poorly tucked out of the way by a backwards cap that definitely wasn't part of the uniform. He was leaning against the wall of the station, behind the control panel.
"Toro! I was wondering if they'd invite you."
"They got you on ops today? Brutal."
Aaron T. propped himself on the fence next to him. "Tell me about it, you catch Magnum yet?"
"No." He hopped over the gate, and sat in the front right seat of the train currently in the station. "Should I?"
"We're running it without trims today."
That piqued his interest. "Maybe I'll hit that instead."
"Ha." Aaron T. came down to push his restraint down. "Sorry, you came here first, I'm gonna keep you for a bit."
"Wait, I was gonna sit in the back."
"What'd you sit in the front for then?" He teased, hitting something on the control panel. "Guess you'll have to ride again."
"Always antics with you, Aaron."
"You won't spend time with me if I don't play a little."
He raised a brow. "Oh yeah? I'd spend much more time with you if you operated a better ride."
He pretended to be offended. "You always come crawling back to Maverick, don't even."
"Steel Vengeance is literally right there."
"And yet you're here. You miss me? You come to the media event to just to see me?"
"You wish, I'm only here because Great Adventure is eight hours away."
He grimaced. "Yeah, so close."
"Much closer to here than to Knotts."
"Touché, when are you heading there?"
"Once this event is over."
Aaron T. whistled. "You waste no time."
"Why, you wanna come?"
"I do actually, but I've got work."
"Let me know when you've got a day off, we can plan something."
"Really?"
"Sure." He shrugged. "Y'know, if you operated something cooler."
"Oh, come on! Maverick is one of the best Intimins, you love Intimin."
"I love El Toro, you know what holds a candle to El Toro?"
He crossed his arms.
"Steel Vengeance."
"Talk to me again when SteVe makes you grey out."
"Isn't it your top ride?"
"Only when I'm off the clock."
The train departed. Aaron Z. twisted to glare at him.
He gave him a cheeky smile. "Enjoy the ride, Toro."
#the thought crossed my mind that this *could* count as 'Niche AU' for the bingo sheet but I wanted to write something longer for that!!#this was just a silly little idea LOL#if t and z don't banter vaguely homoerotically is it really a whumptime fic?#probably LOL#but if these two are alone together there's gonna be at least SOME banter#anyways that is all from coaster*town today#😔✊#4town#4*town#4 town#coaster*town

The laughing, alcohol pouring into people’s glasses like an endless waterfall, adding noise to the already rambunctious crowd. Massive smiles painted everyone’s faces as puffs of polluted air filled the bar. And like the sore thumb I was, I merely let out a dry sigh, letting my tumbler rest over my lips.
The wicked burn, my eyes shut for a moment, because while I wasn’t planning on spending my Friday evening at a bar, it was still an excellent way to unwind after a stressful week.
“Enjoying yourself?” Aang perked, elbowing my arm as he drank his ice-cold water. The ice was still whole, and only now did beads of condensation begin to drip over the coaster at our table. He smiled brightly, wiggling his eyebrows as he beamed.
You wouldn’t think Aang would like heading to bars, Sokka being more like the type. But ironically enough, Aang knew the best bars in town. His carefree, energetic attitude, knowing the city like the back of his hand, with an eye for great music and drinks. Even I had to give him credit, raising my glass to him with a grin, “Not bad.”
“You’re so hard to please.” Aang groused, and I chuckled under my breath, taking a quick drag from the cigar. I leaned back into our chair, watching as my cloud slipped past my lips like a veil—the deep flavours of oak, with a touch of cedar shining light.
“Stressful day at work?” Aang pondered as he watched me steal one more drag, nodding.
“How did you know?”
“You’re smoking, and those aren't cheap cigars.”
“It’s fine; we sealed the deal.”
“But you’re already looking for the next.” Aang voiced a slight disappointment in his tone.
Overworked, exhausted, it was easier to keep my mind busy than to settle. What else did I have to lose? A bachelor, high profile job, yet there was unhappiness in me that I couldn’t quite explain.
But Aang was sharp, in tune, too reflective for my liking because if there was one thing I didn't like to do, it was alone with my thoughts. I enjoyed a challenge, but that was one I wouldn't attempt.
My hand sloped, letting the ash spill into the tray underneath, a strange fascination with how the cigar slowly burnt—a vibrant red line along the seam.
"The next performer is up," Aang commented, tilting his half-empty glass towards the stage. A small, wooden platform with a grand piano behind.
The older gentleman was cracking his fingers, adjusting his glasses as he ghosted the keys. He was rehearsing for whoever was going to come, wanting a perfect performance.
I shrugged and smoked, "I never did care for these acts."
"I think you'll like this one."
"And why is that?" I perked, laying a suspicious eye over Aang.
He was too happy.
Had been this whole time, and the more I thought, the more I realized how his eyes darted to the stage. Waiting eagerly for something and that something had me growing weary by the second.
"I don't like that smile on your face, Aang."
"Katara loves it."
"If you haven't noticed, I'm not her."
Aang laughed, tilting into his chair towards me. A softness in his eyes as he had a pure soul; I’d always given him that.
I sighed, letting myself lean into my own. The cigar burned out on the holder as I stole a large sip of my drink. Something tells me I'm going to need it.
"You remember me talking about Ying Yue-"
I groaned, "Not this again."
"Come on, Zuko! Give her a chance; she’s exactly what you need."
"What I need is to wake up early tomorrow and get ready for Monday."
"It's Friday! What you need to do is take a break." Aang puffed.
Another angry sip, wanting the conversation to drop. Everyone is constantly nagging me to relax, stop being so stubborn. Learn to breathe.
I'm alive, aren't I? Clearly, I'm breathing well enough.
"Zuko, please," Aang fussed, and I saw the look on his face.
Those stupid puppy dog eyes. A childish pout as I scowled, signalling him to go on or else I'd have to deal with it for the rest of my evening.
"If you want to live your life chasing business, I have no right to judge. I know you're career-focused, but I see the way you look at Katara and me, Suki and Sokka. You think you're like Toph, but you're not. You want a companion, and you need to open up and admit it."
I stripped my gaze away, clicking my tongue because, of course, fucking Aang was right. Knowing me better than me, I might as well marry him.
How much I hate introspecting-
The grip over my tumbler loosened, raising my hand with a tilt as I let the glass rest at the edge of the table. A glass to empty for my liking.
The server spotted my gesture, rushing with a perfectly balanced tray in her hand. A quick swipe, replacing the empty glass with a new one, before moving along with a small curt.
"Well?" Aang asked, and I mumbled while taking a sip, "I'm still here, aren't I?"
The smile on Aang's face as if I had given him a few thousand. I rolled my eyes, a silly thing to get excited about.
It was going to be like every other lousy blind date they've set me up with. At least this time, I get to see her first, and I have a chance to run. Although this was Aang's first try, the others attempts were fruitless.
Just maybe, Aang would be the winner...I highly doubt it.
"She's what you need."
"And what is that exactly?" I tutted, my fingers toying with the bottom of the heavy glass.
The lights around us began to dim, voices turning into mere mummers in a flash. Static noise as one of the sound crew started to fiddle with the microphone, an annoyance to my ears. But I kept my look over Aang, more preoccupied with the conversation at hand.
"What you see is what you get with Ying Yue."
My nose scrunched at Aang's answer, confused, not fully understanding what he meant by such a statement. Is he trying to say I'm too simple-minded?
"The main act for tonight's show is running a song too late. But don't fret; we have our amazing, up-and-coming vocalist to kick off our night with a sweet tune, a tune for all you love birds out there." A man's voice boomed, excessively perky, and I would've rolled my eyes if I wasn't already at Aang.
"The sweetest treat you'll ever eat, and don't try because we got security, introducing our fan-favourite, Ying Yue!"
A part of me was surprised to hear the crowd roar in excitement. Cutting my train of thought as I stared at the group of people beside our table whistling.
I could feel my head throb with a headache. Someone was fiddling with a microphone once again, testing piano notes echoing.
"What makes you think I need someone like that?" I fought back, and Aang, patient Aang, crossed his arms after pointing at the stage, "She's about to start, Zuko! Look!"
Oh, screw this-
I adjusted myself in my chair, leaning back with a groan as I grabbed my drink. Raising it towards me, the rim of the chill tumbler resting against my lips as I sought after a taste.
Sweet, the air itself felt sweet.
Like a warm embrace falling over your shoulders, butterflies in your stomach, my hand dropped, unable to stop my head from jerking upward because it was like a spell.
A trail of candies, that was her voice, beckoning your attention—a mixture of contradiction: powerful yet delicate, fluffy with that touch of melancholy.
A love song.
"But I can't help falling in love with you~."
I didn't hear the sound of my drink hitting the wooden table in front of me. Too busy appreciating her, Ying Yue.
Absolutely the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
Soft black curls cascading down her back, the red dress she wore was seductive. Off the shoulder, cinched at the waist, and it just cut off at the knees. But as her cherry-coloured lips moved, a beautiful smile dancing along her lips, she carried this breath of innocence.
Her golden eyes, smiling with every word, twirling the microphone cord in her hands as she moved around the stage. People could not strip their eyes away from her, their voices singing along to her celestial voice.
It was like they came for her, only her.
Not only to hear her sing but to appreciate.
The pianist behind had a giant smile on his face, the wrinkles showing his age, but he didn’t seem to care. He watched her perform, a second-wind washing over the older gentleman. And for a quick second, she looked over at him with a thankful look before casting a dream over the audience with those honeyed words.
Unexpected confidence, humming as she twirled on her heel. Unable to stop her adorable giggles from spilling when a guest blew her a kiss. Her gestures were so dainty, natural.
What you see is what you get.
Shaking my head with a slight grin, unable to strip my gaze away for a second. The star of the show, pulling you in. Her voice was clear from all the noise besides the piano playing because her voice alone was enough to convey her emotions. Everything else was just merely an accessory to someone already so perfect.
Beautiful.
"What do you think?" Aang spoke from beside me, and it was then a feeling of dread washed over me.
Just as quick as she stepped on stage, the music drifted, coming to close as her voice finally fluttered to an end. A male rushed from behind, fumbling with his tie as he bore a sheepish smile.
Resting his hand over her shoulder, an appreciative nod, and Ying Yue smiled back with such radiance.
"Thank you for listening to me tonight; it was a treat." She spoke.
I bit back a groan. A voice so peaceful, my shoulders dropping. Despite the passion in the crowd, they promptly paused to hear her speak. Everything she did was hypnotizing.
A round of applause and people throwing compliments and wolf whistles. The man behind her began to speak, but his words flew over my head, much more interested in seeing her figure dotting away from behind the curtain.
"Zuko?"
My eyes widened, turning to Aang with a swallow, "Sorry, what did you ask?"
Aang laughed, shaking his head with a beaming smile, "What you think about her, but I got my answer already."
I frowned, sheepishly stealing a drink in between, "She was okay."
Aang shrugged at my answer, "You know...out of all my years of knowing you, I'd never seen you put down your glass without taking a sip."
He was right.
I floundered over my thoughts, trying to find an excuse. A reason for my out-of-character personality, but I couldn't. I was caught red-handed, overwhelmed with limerence.
With a loud thud, my glass fell back over the table, leaning back into my chair, "What's the catch."
"What do you mean?" Aang asked, and I ticked.
"Is she spoiled? Want money? Wants to be arm candy for me?" I poked because that was what it always came down to.
Every person I gave a chance, a glimmer of hope, was always returned with a show of their true colours. A pain and disappointment I refuse to experience.
But Aang smiled, shaking his head, "What you see is what you get. And if you don't believe me, see for yourself."
"What-"
In a flash, Aang stood, raising his glass of water in the air, a gummy smile, and my eyes drifted. This cunning bastard-
My fingers were toying with the tumbler, holding my breath for a second because she was somehow more gorgeous up close.
Her smile widened and reached her eyes as she shyly waved Aang's comment away, "Another perfect performance."
Her hair bounced with her steps, heels clicking that only highlighted her legs, hips swaying sinfully. Finally, she spoke, "Thank you for coming; I was so nervous."
Fuck her voice. It was like she was singing a song, for your ears only, uniquely created for you.
Aang shook his head, and silently I pushed my chair behind, beginning to stand. Basic manners disappeared for a moment, gawking so much I didn't even bother to stand and greet.
My hands fell into the pockets of my dress pants, tugging at the faint wrinkles that began to embed. I watched as Aang outstretched his arms and pulled Ying Yue into a tight embrace.
As she happily accepted his tender affections, her eyes shifted in my direction, and I swear, I saw a tinge of pink paint her cheeks. I hid my expression; did I imagine it?
They separated, Aang's hand drifting to her lower back, guiding her gaze to me.
I couldn't stop the smile on my face as I peered downwards. Her eyes were round as can be, and the blush that coated her cheeks turned from pink to red.
I could feel my heart ease because Aang was right. She was seemingly everything I needed and more, without even knowing it till now. Her expression gave away her thoughts and feelings, peering towards me while nibbling on her lips. Putting her entire being on her sleeves.
There was no guessing with her.
A sudden wave of cockiness, a sly grin on my face as I leaned towards her slightly.
"Aang didn't tell me he was bringing a friend." She stuttered, her eyes drifting from my face down my torso. Her gaze was lingering on the open buttons of my dress shirt where I had taken off my tie, a ruffled business look after a long day.
Just as quickly, she looked back at me, her stunning gold eyes studying my face with a shyness I'd yet to see on anyone else. This was the same lady singing on stage with a voice that held everyone in a trance, now a blushing mess, and I haven't spoken a word.
"Zuko, it's a pleasure to meet you, and spectacular performance. I'm lucky to have seen it." I hummed.
Her blush intensified, brushing a random strand of hair behind her ear as she stared with an adorable daze.
"This is the guy I was telling you about."
"Hopefully nice things," I added, and Ying Yue giggled, nodding, "He said you're rough along the edges but have a great heart."
"What a wonderful way to introduce me." I sarcastically spoke with a glare to Aang, but Ying Yue's voice drew my attention back.
"I'm Ying Yue, by the way- although you probably know that because, um-" she stumbled in her words, and I chuckled.
I honestly couldn't care less about the man singing up on stage right now. While his voice carried throughout the bar, I was far more mystified by hers. Even the way she stammered was charming, and I smiled.
"It's nice to hear you introduce yourself rather than the MC."
"I always find it awkward, all the eyes and attention, it's overwhelming."
I perked, "You didn't seem shy on stage."
She pouted, "It seems to kick in the moment I get off it."
I laughed, watching how she sighed at herself, and Aang patted her back, "I think it's your charm."
"Then you can have it." She playful retorted, both of them laughing freely.
Her giggles, laughter, tunes of their own. Unable to stop myself from staring at her comfortable expression. I need to hear her laugh once again, to smile.
But I couldn't help but notice that even as she spoke to Aang, her eyes always wandered back to me. Pulling her gaze whenever our eyes met as if I caught her red-handed. It was like her eyes were wanting, seeking. But for what?
"Would you like to sit, have a drink?" I asked, nudging my head at the table, and she looked surprised, "You're not going to work?"
"What makes you think that?"
"Because you're dressed so nicely, and you look handso- professional, I thought you were going to leave me- us." Ying Yue spoke, but I caught her slip-ups.
I fought the temptation to tease because the flustered look on her face was already so pleasing. Despite the dim light, I could still make out her delicate features. Soft, nose buttoned, eyelashes long-
"I just finished work, and Aang told me he knew just the treat for a Friday night."
Ying Yue tried desperately to seem indifferent, but her body language gave it all the way. The way she lit up the moment I said I was not leaving, hands clasped together, a silent clap.
She actually seemed to want my company. The feeling of being wanted, adored, was the strangest yet most satisfying feeling in the world.
"If you want a treat, there's a diner around the corner. The smoothies and fudge cakes always hit the spot." She excitedly spoke, almost standing on her tippy toes.
"Really? I've never been."
"It's amazing! A lot of teens go after school, but around this hour, it tends to be a date spot."
"You two should go." Aang perked from behind, and I saw Ying Yue blush, giving an embarrassed look.
I hadn’t realized how close we were standing. Our bodies drifting towards each other, the touch Aang held over Ying Yue non-existent anymore. I don’t even think Ying Yue realized herself. It was this odd pull; while our talk was small, it was exciting.
The way Aang naturally suggested the idea of us going to the diner, he really wasn't going to let this go. And a part of me wondered how much Aang told Ying Yue. Did she know he was trying to set us up together? Or was this whole situation a matter of pure luck that Aang took advantage of?
"I don't want to waste Zuko's time-" Ying Yue said.
She doubted herself. I watched how she slowly curled into herself nervously, her shoulders slumped, and I frowned.
"Who said you'd waste my time?" I inquired as her gaze shifted back to me, "I'm quite enjoying my time with you right now."
It was that small compliment, a gentle push that seemed to have Ying Yue lifting her chin - the green light. Looking over her shoulder back at Aang, I could see her mind working. Aang mouthing a silent, ‘go for it’ as he nudged his head in my direction.
She wasn’t going to do what I think she was, was she?
With a nervous breath, Ying Yue turned to face me, a determined look, "You don't work after this, right, Zuko?"
I shook my head, and Yue crossed her leg in front, letting her eyes stare at the floor before looking back at me. "I-I was just going to go home, but I'm a bit hungry for something sweet. You wouldn't want to join me, would you?"
That hopefulness in her eyes. Taking a risk that I knew she never did before. Aang shook his head furiously from behind with his infamous thumbs up-
"That sounds like a wonderful idea, Ying Yue."
"You can just call me Yue. All my friends call me that." She corrected, and I grinned, "Yue...it just rolls off the tongue as if it was always meant to be."
Yue's cheeks were flushing red at my comment, her plump lips parting as she took an unconscious step forward. Our toes were almost touching, her eyes staring up at mine with a curiosity.
Aang squeezed Yue's shoulders, shooting me a sly wave, "Enjoy your date; I have to go home. I promised Katara we'd go to the movies. I got the tab; you cover next time!"
Before Yue could even say goodbye, Aang grabbed his jacket, dashing out the door like the wind itself. It was like he had everything planned. His wallet already in his pocket, cash in his hand to pay, I swear Yue’s hair and dress fluttered.
She looked back at me nervously, “I-I didn't mean to ask you out on a date like this. I just-”
I picked up my jacket from my chair, shaking it with a hard flick of my wrist. Her words faded into the air, watching how I straightened out the heavy fabric. The golden buttons of my dark red blazer glistened under the light, shimmering onto her stunning dress.
Pinching the shoulders, I lifted it, "It's chilly outside, and besides your purse, I don't see your shawl."
"Are you sure? Won't you be cold? I don't want to be a bother. I already asked you to come with me during your time-"
"Yue," I spoke, her lips parting as she eagerly waited for my words, "There isn't a better way to spend my day off than with you in this evening."
Wrapping the heavy material over her shoulders, drowning her and warming her figure. Carefully, I brushed her hair from under, letting it rain on her back once more, "Now, let's see if these smoothies are as great as you say they are."
"They are, I swear. One time I had three in a day."
"Three? It seems like someone has a sweet tooth."
"I really do; it’s terrible. It doesn’t help that I work at a bakery full time."
"Makes sense. You're as sweet as the sweets you eat."
"Zuko," Yue shyly huffed, nudging her elbow at my side with a flustered smile and I faked pain, “Aang never told me you were abusive.”
“Oh, so Aang talked to you about me?” She giggled, and I smirked, “Just a bit.”

Maroon : What role do you play in your group of friends?
Ruby: Favorite Pre 2000's song?
Merlot: Do you have any unusual fears?
Red Ochre: Are you inclined to watch a TV series if a lot of people are talking about it?
Maroon - I already answered this one, but I am clown and mom 😊
Ruby -
In the Meantime by Spacehog
I have sung this song many times in the car drunk with my friends. Usually after City Club. The lyrics are fun to sing and I love the song 💜
Merlot - I'm thinking on this now and maybe. I don't know if it's a "fear" but if I'm falling for too long, I get really panicked. I can't ride really big roller coasters because of this. I can do medium ones like Iron Dragon or Corckscrew at Cedar Point but that's as high as I can go
Red Ochre - It depends. If someone I'm close to recommends something to me I'll always give it a try because if they like it it must be cool right? For example, @wisconsinwarlock and @kangamommynow told me Dark on Netflix is good and IT IS. We watched a few episodes while I was there and I love it and I'm gonna watch more tonight. I'm actually very upset no one told me about this sooner 🤣😂
Thank you very much for asking 🤩
