The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien (★ ★ ★ ★/5): I’ve finally read the og fantasy book and honestly it was so nice to go back to the basics before “romantasy” became a thing. An adventure for an adventure's sake !

The War of Two Queens by Jennifer Armentrout (★ ★ ★/5): this book should’ve been book 2 and we could’ve skipped those other ones. There’s a lot of unnecessary back and forth in this book and once again I stress the importance of editors. The anticipated threesome was okay, could’ve been better tbh. Honestly, I will not be finishing this series- especially after learning that book 5 is literally just a retelling of book 1 in Casteel’s POV. Respectfully I don’t care enough to continue

Spoiler Alert by Olivia Dade (★ ★ ★/5): this book, much like the storyline consists of, reads like fanfiction. I was genuinely taken aback by the Ao3-formatted chapters within this book, like I did not think that was necessary but okay. Not awful, but be prepared for cringy adults (almost 40 yrs old btw) that have little to no communication skills

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco (★ ★ ★/5): I'm a little late to the hype of this book but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I loved Audrey Rose and Thomas' interactions and all props to them both for being interested in mortuary science... couldn't be me

Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco (★ ★ ★ ★/5): this was a good mysterious follow up to the first book, although I think it's funny that they went through all of that to not get admitted into the forensics school (also these poor children have soo much trauma now)

Recoding America by Jennifer Pahlka (★ ★ ★/5): a good insight into how efforts to make the government smaller have actually made possible technological advancements nearly impossible (at least on government websites). The policy loopholes (more like tangles) are astounding and frustrating and the government is a mess

Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel (★ ★ ★ ★ ★/5): I'm only a little familiar with the original Hindu myth of Ramayana but I feel like this take was so good! I really enjoyed Kaikeyi's story and learning abt her motivations for what she did, mythology (and history) is never kind to female voices, and I think their stories need to be told too

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson (★ ★ ★ ★/5): what a fun little mystery novel! The humor of the narrator made this quite enjoyable and quick to read, although I'm a little disappointed this wasn't a story about a family of serial killers

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune (★ ★ ★ ★ ★/5): this was such a wholesome story about life after death and seeing the best in humanity. This also taught me that life is too short to not be lived. Go out into the world and live and love and learn and do all the things you want to do without waiting for the "right" moment !

I was kinda iffy about introducing a new Keyword, but its for the best. Besides, almost every major part of the franchise has their own keyword in the TCG, so why not give Recode one? (DigiXros, Hybrid, and Mindlink are only a few examples)

Also interesting that episode 16 is what I would consider a "hybrid" one with Chester reading pieces but the main incident comes in the form of video. Spoilers and theory tie-in below!

Going back to my theory about unread incidents introducing new Externals, this one being a hybrid may feed into it.

Obviously, we've met Ink5oul two other times. The first time was an unread incident (side note: also a video which is interesting) and then in episode 11.

At first, I thought this episode was going to disprove my theory until I looked toward the end of the incident in the transcript. It says:

She struggles to breathe, an alarm starts beeping. There is the sound of tearing skin and a gurgled sound, as though something were tearing itself free of her flesh. The recoding ends.

I'm going to go out on a limb and argue that perhaps Ink5oul has created a new External through this incident somehow, thus why it's a hybrid. Which, if creating more Externals or something of the like is in fact something they can do, it makes them a HUGE threat and therefore possibly the "big bad" of this season.

Hello! I hope y'all are doing great I need your help to find me some fanfic I lost its 18+ yandere! Al-haitham x reader. I forgot the title and the plot is all about haitham and reader are married and haitham puts some camera//voice recoding to the readers keys because he thought the reader was cheating and when he checked his phone he saw reader and kaveh in some kind of cafe then, haitham went there to grab reader. (Not continuing to avoid some spoilers to those who might be interested reading it). It was very deliciously written especially the yummy part kudos to the author!! 2. What's your total AO3 word count? 133,410

3. What fandoms do you write for? MDZS, fairly exclusively right now. Aside from that: Cardcaptor Sakura is the fandom I first wrote fanfic for. I’ve written some X/TB, Tenipuri, Kamen Rider, some others. But to be honest, in most fandoms I don’t write much, if at all.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

And I will stay with you / And you will keep me close, which I just call the Sangcheng Roommates AU. This has stalled for reasons, but I do want to finish it. It’s a fun concept.

When a secret isn’t really secret, a Touya/Yuki fic! It’s actually just Yukito and Fujitaka talking about Yukito and Touya’s relationship, Touya is barely in it 😂

Heart-opening flow, my sangcheng yoga au, the first sangcheng fic I ever wrote.

The Half-Eaten Peach Longs to be Filled with Cream. Okay, I love this one. It’s sangcheng, and it’s porn.

Stay, also sangcheng. Modern au, first time they have sex. Technically it has the same rating as number 4, but it’s nowhere near as filthy.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, I try to, because while I write fic for me, the reason I share it is in the hope of getting to have conversations with others that like the characters and ship as much as I do.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I mean, I don’t really do angst, but I suppose Yaguruma’s Hell because it’s Yaguruma thinking about how he’ll take Kageyama away and they’ll be together, and that’s just before, well. Spoilers for Yaguruma and Kageyama’s story in Kamen Rider Kabuto. It doesn’t actually go into the ending, it relies on you knowing what happens.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I really don’t know. I mostly write fluff, and most of them have happy endings.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I never have. I feel like mostly you don’t get hate if you don’t write for particularly popular ships in popular fandoms. Although, if I’d gotten into MDZS just 6 months or so earlier, I might have gotten hate by the infamous troll that went around harassing sangcheng fans.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Sure do! And well… I suppose you could say I often write FLUFFY smut, because it’s about characters that have strong feelings about each other, but I’d also like to think I write fairly dirty smutty (but not particularly kinky). Probably the best example of what I mean is Hold the doors, which is a nielan fic about Lan Xichen giving his neighbor that he just met, Nie Mingjue, a blowjob. It has been described as both filthy and soft.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Nope, not my thing, as a writer or reader.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Also nope.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Probably Touya/Yukito, because it’s about than the ship itself for me at this point. They’re what got me into CLAMP, and also what got me into shipping, and I made a fansite for them that was the first site I made of any kind and that is still online. They’re the reason I learned to code.

Or sangcheng. It maybe recency bias, but they've certainly gotten me to produce more fic than any other ship.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? Isolated Incidents, a fic about Touya and Yukito kissing. It would have been fine if I had just made it a one shot about their first kiss, but instead I decided that it would have MORE, and that I'd explore the evolution of their relationship through different kisses. It was a good idea at the time, I'd just gotten actively back into CLAMP fandom, had recoded the Touya/Yukito shrine in modern HTML and CSS, and was rewatching Cardcaptor Sakura and writting short little fics for them again. But then December 2020 came, and I decided to read MDZS... and that pretty much took over my fandom life. There's MDZS fics I haven't worked on in quite a while, but since I'm still actively in this fandom, they aren't in "probably won't finish" territory.

16. What are your writing strengths? I think I write amusing stories, and I’m not embarrassed to write smut. Also, I think I tend to have fairly defined voices for characters.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Consistency in the sense of sticking with writing a thing. Actual plot. Those go hand in hand. It’s very hard for me to write long fics for those reasons. I often have IDEAS for fics I really like, and I might sort of… loosely plot them out, but in no way enough to actually write most of them.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? Unless you actually KNOW something of the language, just avoid it. You’ll probably make a fool of yourself otherwise.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Cardcaptor Sakura, Touya/Yukito.

20. Favorite fic you've written? I don’t have a favorite. Unsatisfying, I know.

Haha, fair enough my friend. I will say to anyone already not in the know who cares about spoilers for Fangthane's Folly and the Anvil's Fall that there will be major spoilers beneath the readmore cut. You have been warned.

Right then, now that's been established;

The first thing that needs to be pointed out is the fact that, while the War of the Red Hammer and the knowledge of the following Purges has not been erased from history and is, in fact, acknowledged by Fangthane, what was covered up was the fact that a second set of Purges happened.

To clarify; The War of the Red Hammer happened around 3,500 years ago when the union between the royal families of Fangthane and the hold now known as Wyrmholme was broken due to most of the dwarves of Wyrmholme turning to worship of Ladeurger (an evil dwarven deity of slavery and torture) over Moradin, when both deities first found Titan. The main clan that was involved in the war was the Redhammer clan, the royal house of Fangthane's sister hold. Any members of the Redhammer clan that were living in Fangthane that turned their worship to Ladeurger were summarily executed, while those that remained "loyal" to Fangthane were adopted out into various other clans.

What isn't nearly as well known about those Purges is that Fangthane's nobility also purged any families that didn't turn at least a token amount of worship to Moradin. This was covered up and the families were written off as Heretics, no better than the ones that turned their worship to Ladeurger despite the fact that they never did. One family, however, was spared this fate due to their close ties with the royal family, and the fact that they (at the time) had the pleasure of having a Shaper in their line, the original Stonespeaker clan. The Stonespeakers remained ardent Throffites and refused to acknowledge Moradin's place in the new dwarven pantheon. This was handily ignored for about 1,000 years, until the then newly crowned king Joldrunn Goldseeker decided to try convincing the remaining Redhammers and Stonespeakers to convert to Moradin over Throff, as he believed that Throff didn't hold enough power to have pride of place in dwarven society any longer. Most agreed and complied with the order, but one family in the Stonespeaker clan refused. They believed that, as before, they could convince the king to overlook the matter as they were still the only line that held Throff's Blessing. The Shaper of the time, Merewin, had only recently been betrothed to the kings' youngest son, Ragnar, so the Stonespeakers were confident that the matter would be easily resolved.

To cut an already very long story short, Joldrunn's decree created such a Schism within the church that it threatened to spill over into outright civil war. Merewin and her family continued to refuse to convert, which ended with Merewin's execution for Treason and Heresy after she was discovered down in the Contemplation Chamber without permission from the then Archlector. The majority of her family were executed not long after (along with several others who sided with them), while the others fled or adopted themselves into other clans and immediately converting. Several clans, who silently agreed with the Stonespeakers, but realised which way the wind was blowing, fled Fangthane and later founded the secretive hold of Kar Kherril. Ragnar didn't live very long after this and died of what was deemed to be a broken heart.

Now, why is all of this considered to be spoilers? Well, let's have a quick look at the offical, recorded family tree of the Ironforges for a moment

Garuld is recoded as having been executed about a week after his sister, but by that time, he'd already had three sons, the two eldest of whom were executed along with the rest of their family, while the youngest was adopted out to the Ironforge clan. This family tree is not publicly available, and is held in the secure vaults found in the depths of Fangthane's Library. It is considered to be the official lineage of the modern Ironforge clan. I've cut out the rest of Ovak's children and their marriages to make it easier to trace the line down to Meredith and her siblings. The reason this family tree is kept secure and not readily publicly available even to the modern Ironforge clan? To cover up the fact that the modern Ironforge clan has any connections whatsoever to the Fangthane Royal line and also to cover up the fact that this second set of Purges even occurred. Yup, one of the kings of Fangthane genocided a whole family line that was known to have been Blessed by the Creator Goddess, then had it covered up because it made him look bad.

Now, the problem here is, that Shaping is passed down the matrilineal line, not the patrilineal. So by all rights, the Blessing of Throff should have died out entirely when Merewin did as she was too young to have children of her own at the time of her death (she was 66 years old, the age of consent in Fangthane has been 65 since its founding). So how does the modern Ironforge line have a Shaper at the time of the Destiny's New Servants campaign?

A small biology lesson: Dwarves generally hit puberty at any time between 30 and 45 years old. This is long before Fangthane's age of consent. Dwarves, biologically speaking, aren't all that different from other humanoids on Titan, so puberty means hormones, and lots of them. It also means a whole tonne of stupid decisions. While dwarves are generally less fertile than other peoples, they're not infertile by any means. "Teen" pregnancies happen, and they happen all the time, they're just generally swept under the rug a bit more in the case of the dwarves and almost every family has sons and daughters that are converted to brothers and sisters for the sake of convenience.

To make things a bit clearer, here's what the Ironforge family tree looks like when extrapolated out from a record found buried in the God Vault that was discovered beneath Fangthane's Contemplation Chamber:

Now we know where Meredith inherited the ability from. Merewin and Ragnar were 45 and 50 at the time of Ovak's birth (as detailed in Merewin's diary, which Meredith picked up from the little side chamber she found under the Comtemplation Chamber), so the child was quickly adopted by Merewin's older brother to save both families the shame. As a note: this was discovered and uncovered during following Meredith's own trial for Treason and Heresy, and we can actually thank Snotgrut for getting the librarians off their arses to do some actual investigation once the trial was concluded.

As far as fiction that happens post campaign; there's a tonne of debate whether to update the records to reflect this extrapolated family tree and reinstate this line of the Ironforge clan to a noble status, or if they shouldn't bother because Meredith married into a noble lineage anyway, by way of her marriage to Yoruk (who is the current king's nephew on his father's side).

I know that was a lot, but I did a lot of figuring this out for the campaign, just in case any of the group wanted to do some further digging. They didn't in the end, but this has been sitting in my back pocket for about 4-5 years now.

March check-in

This week has been... something. Busy, emotional, a lot... Also it's March!

DOL-OS won the Best Game category of the 16th edition of the Concours de Fiction Intéractive Francophone !

It's the first time I won an IF Competition! It's been a few days, but I'm still incredibly flattered people liked this game so much and thought it should win the main competition against 24 other amazing games! The game was also 2nd in Technical and Theme, as well as 3rd in the Narrative Design. How cool is that!

If you haven't checked out DOL-OS or the other submissions of the Concours, I highly suggest you do so!

But for people interested in how I made the whole game, I'll be posting a Post-Mortem in the next few weeks.

As promised months ago, the Space-Tech UI is out! It is a bit different from the first draft I had been thinking of creating, following instead the Space UI I had made for the SeedComp! and P-Rix - Space Trucker.

The theme includes your basic settings, a title/end page, and mobile adaptability (portrait).

Unlike the other UI Templates, which included different colour themes, this Space-Tech one does not have a theme setting. Instead, it has two different designs (main page + codex) linked to the passage tags. The macros/diablog boxes are also customised to fit those designs.

Welp... I couldn't manage to finish it before the end of February. I really didn't realise how much code there was behind the scene on that one (spoiler alert, a fuckton). BUT...

Scene 3 is complete. All scenes are now completely recoded, fixed some bugs, and corrected some text issue (typo and the like).

Next, I'll be looking at the macros/widget behind some of the code (the notifications especially, since I'm changing them for a more ARIA compliant one); fix the codex (I found a cool new way of displaying it, I need to test it); and some other secret things.

Still quite a bit to do....

Got to read more of Chapter 4 and help MelS tie in some variation/choice option. Not much more progress, MelS has been incredibly busy lately, and will be for the next weeks or so.

On the other hand, I've been looking around on how to include the map of Chapter 3's maze in the game. Web is easy peasy. Mobile is the problem.

Last month I set out some expectations, fulfilling only 2 out of 3. So here's the plan for this month instead:
