To me, the problem with isekai anime is the potential for it to just be a boring power fantasy, and/or to lean too heavily on the tropes without having interesting characters or execution.

So, to me, saying that a vending machine isekai is a sign that isekai are played out is ridiculous.

An isekai that's doing something really weird, and potentially hilarious, is not a sign of the isekai end-times.

An isekai that doesn't stand out at all, treats the tropes as though they were entirely fresh, and has bland characters, would be the sort of thing to point at with concern.

But a bland anime is less eye-catching in a thumbnail than a vending machine with cute anime eyes.

PROFIC PARTY DAY 6: A Poly Ship!

This one's probably our weirdest ship to date, but we mean it wholeheartedly and genuinely in terms of love, dynamic enjoyment, and genuine fun that it brings us. Two girls dating the same vending machine.

You heard me right - vending machine. Not person, vending machine. Boxxo x Lammis x Hulemy is a ship I have so much adoration for after hearing about the anime concept where Boxxo appeared. A sapient vending machine, a crafter of magic items who latches onto him, and a girl increased strength where she can carry Boxxo on her back without any struggle. I want them all to date each other so badly.

Sure, it ends up looking a little goofy given Boxxo is a vending machine, but it's also utterly adorable, right? I heart this ship so much!

I really recommend "Reborn as a vending machine, I now wander the dungeon", it's such a strange isekai but in a really fun and unique way!

Our latest recs are a grab bag of Summer shows, carryovers, and endearing oddballs you might have missed.

How did we choose our recs?

Participating staff members can nominate up to three titles and can also co-sign other nominated shows. Rather than categorizing titles as “feminist-friendly” or “problematic,” they are simply listed in alphabetical order with relevant content warnings; doing otherwise ran the risk of folks seeing these staff recommendations as rubber stamps of unilateral “Feminist Approval,” which is something we try our hardest to avoid here.

The titles below are organized alphabetically. As a reminder, ongoing shows are NOT eligible for these lists. We’d rather wait until the series (or season) has finished up before recommending it to others, that way we can give you a more complete picture. This means we also leave out any unfinished split-cour shows, which we define as shows that air their second half within a year of the first.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead will not be eligible for recommendation until it returns from its indefinite hiatus.

Submission 1: He died from reading this long running webnovel that he would faithfully pay for legally, abd then rip apart every little thing about it he didnt like. It was bad. He read the last chapter, and was so angry either he ate spoiled yogurt when he wasnt looking and died of food poisoning, or choked to death on a bun. Later he would meet the author who also isekaied into it, and then said author would say that he was a super fan.

Submission 2: died from choking on a bao lmao loser (affectionate) and then tripped on some wires and extra-died by electrocuting himself

Submission 3: Okay it gets a bit complicated here but. There are a few versions of how it happened. In the first he is reading shitty Web novel and gets so fucking angry at the ending that he just spontaneously combusts and isekai's into the scum villain in the very novel he was flaming. In the second be chokes on a bao (while flaming the novel's ending) and dies, again isekai'ing into the scum villain. The only fact that makes the second death funnier is that the novel he is reading is a heterosexual harem collecting story that is slowly changed into gay fantasy romance through the events of SVSSS's plot, which makes the "choking on balls to death" thing so fucking much funnier
