as always, please block and report these blogs, and more importantly, warn your friends, mutuals, and followers if you see them reblogging their scam posts. if you see a donation post/blog that you believe may be a scam, please do look their url up first on the tumblr search bar to see if someone has already called them out. i will try to update this post with the scammers' new accounts/url as we discover them. please also go to @kyra45's blog, as they are faster and more thorough in updating about newly discovered scams.

some red flags to look out for before sharing donation posts/donating:

new blog, or a couple years old but has only a few random, sporadic posts

backdated posts

spamming asks to a lot of other users, even the ones they don't know or have just followed, and even when the user has made it clear they don't want to receive requests to boost dono posts

is asking you to answer their asks privately, or is sending you a message directly

is straight up asking you for money, and usually for impossibly large amounts

do not put their paypal/money transfer links on their post itself, usually claiming it's to protect their 'privacy'

is using Zelle for their money transfer account, especially if the person is claiming to be in Palestine

please don't be so quick to entertain donation requests and to give away your money, especially if the user ticks a lot of these boxes. if you are familiar with the place they say they are from or the language they are supposed to speak, try conversing with them for a bit to see if their claims would hold. you can also browse my 'donation scam' tag or kyra45's blog to compare if the user has any similarities with past scammers that we've discovered.

that's it po. let's all try our best to look out for each other and make sure that our resources are going to the actual people in need, especially in the case of Palestinians asking for help. the last thing they need right now is for shitty lowlifes to use their suffering to make a profit.

whenever i used to post, i had to recheck stuff at least 20 times before posting (yeah i still kept the typos cuz ppl loved them ig) and id get anon messages of why am i posting shit (which is one of the reasons why I had anons open like for only half a day on the last blog) and whenever i didnt post, people would still have a problem.

and well, call me a bitch for the next reason but it sucks when you send someone messages and you get zero response back (yup, still had zero response before deactivating) but you see them answeing asks and reblogging posts and shitposting etc etc. It sucks when you were there for them when they needed someone and now they arent there for you when you needed them the most.

so yeah that was 2 of my many reasons for "poofing" .

to the people who would say "its not gonna be the same" well it will. think if this as the aftermath of a hurricane. sure you need time but you do get back on your feet. If desiblr could survive without me all these years, it can survive now too.

suggestion for improving tumblr

tl;dr: allow users to add “tags” to their blog as a whole, then make those searchable, so it’s easier to find people to follow who post/reblog about what you’re interested in

so, tumblr corporate wants to get new users/get occasional tumblr users to make an account and use it. as far as im concerned, that’s fine, as long as they don’t wreck the things existing tumblr users like about tumblr.

because all other social media is algorithmic garbage, it seems like a lot of new users join, don’t understand that they have to find people to follow themselves and/or don’t know where to start looking for people to follow, so they leave.

this is my proposed solution to that. basically, as well as having a url, icon, header image, etc, users can also add “tags” to their blog, describing what they post about. adding tags would be completely optional, and what they contain would be entirely written by blog owners with no algorithms involved.

either include in current search or make a new search for just this (and also just like. have a functional search lol). for new users have a thing pointing out that this exists and they should use it to find people to follow

this would also be useful for older users in that like. when i get into a new fandom i want to follow people who post about it frequently, but current search only shows me original posts about it - i also want to follow people who reblog a lot even if they don’t make original content

potential issues/solutions:

scammers and spammers: make it so u can’t add “tags” to ur blog until it reaches a certain age, or has a certain number of posts, or something, so they cant just create 100000 blogs at once and “tag” them all

people “tag” literally anything theyve ever been interested in even if they never really post about it: limit it to like, 5 “tags” total. possibly still some issues with people who forget to update theirs over time but id prefer that to algorithmic bullshit

people deliberately tagging themselves to trick others into following them for malicious reasons (eg someone who posts racist shit tags themselves as BLM or something bc they wanna hurt people): bannable offense. also tumblr fix moderation pls

Scammers are indeed finding new ways to try and trick people, one impersonated my great aunt on facebook asking me to sign up to some weird religious page I'd have to pay into, the reluctance to take a polite No was the final tell that it was a hack.

If you're a real person, I'm very sorry but this is the absolute worst way to try to raise money in an emergency. I'm fucking broke. The majority of my followers are... okay the majority of my followers are pornbots but the majority of my human followers are also pretty close to fucking broke. There are multiple sites dedicated specifically to organizing charity drives, but tumblr is not one of them.

And when your donation request is one of only eight posts on your account in total, none of which even have a reply on them, and all of which were reblogged on the same day, it makes you look like a scammer rather than a real person.

And a reverse image search for those photos you posted turns up reblogs of posts very much like this one coming from at least five different URLs, all of which have been deactivated. So if your plight is genuine, then several people have stolen photographs of your sick dog to use in their own scams.

I want y’all to know I see all of you who simply like my fics and nothing more (as jas called them serial likers/silent readers) and I think enough ppl already tell you how likes don’t do jack shit so I won’t reiterate it. I just want you all to know that I personally check my notifications all the time, like literally I look and see you guys simply liking and that’s great that you “liked” it but pls talk to me or any cc in general (fic writers, gif makers, artists, etc.) about our stuff, you do it with literally any other topic be it anime, video games, etc. that’s what fandom is supposed to be right? a place where people can communicate and share their love for a certain thing? (that’s what it is supposed to be hopefully) we are not robots putting out content for your leisure, we are people just like you and like you we would like feedback on our work. feedback does not have to equal “xxx was good but xxx could be better” every single time it can be “HAKSHDKSJ THIS XXX WAS AAAAAA” and people would still be happy. this whole situation doesn’t have to be “oh well that’s just how it works so I’m doing what everyone else is doing” that kind of mob mentality is dangerous and as we’ve seen, very fatal to creative communities. anon feature is there for the people who don’t want their url seen, if for some reason you’re shy, embarrassed or for those people who don’t want others knowing they read fic(?). whatever your reason is, just click the anon button it’s easy, just one click/tap. now will this single post make a difference? who knows. I’m just chipping in some commentary on a growing issue. why do you think so many writers and ccs make nets, one of the main reasons is to get members’ content out there for the world to see, and the other reason is that we wanna support each other when our audience won’t, when people are so silent it feels dead and quiet on our blogs when we aren’t doing things. that’s me, since I haven’t put out a new fic the most interaction on my blog rn is through my concert videos, it’s very rare I get asks or interaction with my fics after they’ve been out for a while and I’m so thankful when I do. at the end of the day, I know I’ve been so disappointed and sad to find authors I liked deactivating (for any reason not just lack of interaction) and one of the main reasons is that either they take lack of interaction personally, or they find they’ve lost the motivation to keep up with a hobby they used to enjoy and that’s heartbreaking. it’s not like those people are asking for much they just wanna know what your fave part about a story is? you do that all the time with published books and series right? so let me ask you this: why is a fic any different? they both have words on a page. one thing you may not realize is that once that author you liked is gone it’s very rare that they may come back, for all you know they could simply keep their writing to themselves or share with friends but you’ll miss out. you’re not gonna find another one like them even if you think “meh one author leaving is fine there are plenty of others” trust me you’re not gonna find another like them they’re special and one of a kind. me included. you won’t find another like me. (maybe you think that sounds conceited but it’s true) so be kind to fic authors and just ccs in general bc if they leave you will miss them; subconsciously or outright.

i love every single mutual and follower i have. it's crazy to think about how many people have read my fanfiction in the past four months and the amount if followers i have gained from it. one thousand and six hundred of you??!! it's wild because i never thought i would make it this far on any platform. especially one that i thought women in their mid-30's used to post their starbucks drinks. i was obviously very wrong indeed.

i am so grateful for all of the lovely people i have met here. even the non lovely people too, they gave me charcter development and a lesson learnt.

dear mutuals, i love you all so much there are not enough words in the world to describe it. you have all helped me in a way, even if you didn't know it. and to think that i am now mutuals with whom i loved reading from- it's insane!!

the feeling that i'm having right now is very difficult and conflicting, because i don't want to leave this damned app. it gave me some sort of comfort over the summer, but i guess everyone has their summer flings and this so happened to be mine. being on this app killed time and made me happy. but i knew sooner or later i would leave and it seems it's sooner than i thought.

i'm sure that some of you have noticed that i haven't been active recently. i just can no longer be active due to personal reasons and the fact that it feels like a chore coming on here. adding school to the mix, makes it harder.

you may see me popping in and out of my mutuals inbox, reblogging a mutuals post or posting fics. it feels incomplete of me to have promised so many wips, yet never finish and post them. like im robbing you all- so i will try my best to finish all the wips in my navigation. but please don't expect me to finish them quickly!!

i don't think a lot of you understand how much time and creativity it takes to write, yet demand new fics all the time. which i cannot provide.

i am NOT deactivating my account, so my fics will stay up. if you see them posted on any other platform or on here and they are not under the url 'ameliasbitvh' please message me on my wattpad which is 'ameliasbitvh' or on here!! because i only have my work posted on these two platforms.

if any mutuals want my scoials, just message me but i cannot promise i will be active on those either.

i truly cannot believe this number and i’m so thankful to every single one of you. i wish i could come and say thank you to each one of you... but that would probably take ages lol

i know i say this at every milestone but when i started my studyblr i truly would have been awed and thrilled with 100 followers... so to think that there is now 20,000 of you all is utterly mind boggling 

i’m so so thank for all your support and i hope that what i post is inspiring and helpful to you all! i’ve said it before (and i’ll say it a million times more) but this community is one of the best things in my life so hopefully you all enjoy my small contribution <3
