The buzzing of his phone woke up Tama, who then woke him up when she stepped on his face to swipe at the offending piece of technology. Five times it buzzed before he finally picked it up and got blinded by it in the dark of his room. Of course, his best guess was that it was Kazuha again, likely messaging him at an ungodly hour like he normally does.

And it turns out he was right. What the hell is this? Tomo laughs a bit when he opens the link and shakes his head.

He pauses. Thinking about it for a moment.

Kazuha begins, then takes a deep breath, bracing himself for what he wants to get at now. "I know you are one, if not the, greatest cook I have met in my life- and I have met many people. I know you enjoy cooking and put as much care as I do into it, so- pray tell, why and what exactly did you put in that hot pot? Are you- are you attempting a murder? Trying to discover a new kind of poison? Is that what you wanted with that dreadful thing? I need answers."

To an almost frightening agree he understands that. Despite being men who found themselves tempered through trial, battle and the kindness that tethers it all together as an all important glue, to deny how there was a stark clarity to how Kazuha could execute those very commands stirs forth awe and fear that manages to ripple akin to the very winds that devoured the last breaths of many. Yet, that wasn’t the primary worry, a penchant of personal experience could discern how there was a different gravity that keeps them steady amidst their campsite today.

He’d bare the full brunt of that crimson gaze, finding a solace in staring into his eyes. “And I for you too. You’ve always remained knowing how my flame would not hesitate to immolate or embrace in the name of your safety, Kazuha.” An act that found itself being refined to sorrowful new heights due to particular reasons, moments of time while intrinsically understood, would not find their cards revealed within this time.

Both of them had a deep corner of their hearts for that precious memory of a person.

What captures his intention instead is how they almost seem perturbed? Often his friend manages to hold a phenomenal poker face, an element he depended on in more than one good grace. So to find a rocky sway in such disposition has him curious, leaning in with his share of curiosity. “Sooooooo?” Once it delved into the element that requires a will as hard steeled as one to fight, it all made sense, crystal remnants of thought leaning back to the particular dish that had been drawn from the carnage of making stomachs cry both in concept and reality. That once blindsided gaze straightens, a gentle snicker, followed by a moment of freeflowed laughter drifts from him as he bashfully waves a hand. “Oh! You mean the experimental dish! My my, you’ve certainly must of had an appetite to go at that pre-emptively.. It was something was working on within secret.”

How exactly could the element of refining and reforming either bodily prowess or a martial craft come into play here? That initial look of a bashful stance is replaced as he finds comfort in a familiar gesture. Slinging an arm around Kazuha’s shoulder, he edges him closer, practically keeping them shoulder and shoulder before a carefree smile blooms. “You see there’s been a traveler from the far reaches as of late who’s given me a run for my money. In a contest of endurance, hot pots like this are mandatory! Similar to how a swordsman requires repetition to turn strikes into instinct, or how a smithy turns the initial fear of flame into a comfort, I have to train my stomach to be able to endure any and all substance. Life holds endless combinations, so who’s to say such a skill would not be useful in the soon approaching days? I..” Thinking a touch harder, he does remember the dangers of that potency, making his concern flare up as he does a double take to the swordsman.

“Please, tell me how you’re faring yourself! That explains why you have such an intense gaze, I do have a countermeasure cooked to remedy the worst of it!”
