Tentative Announcement!

Tentative because my spring semester hasn’t started yet, so I may be slightly underestimating my workload in the coming weeks (or overestimating it, you never know). But as of this moment, it is my intention to publish The Stories in Our Veins in daily installments throughout the month of February, beginning with the first and ending with the twenty-ninth (as good a day as any, Johnny).

URGENT: SLOWING FUNDRAISER!

Recently in an update, Siraj ( @siraj2024 ) has talked of the dearth of space in Gaza. He has described how the occupation has caged Gazans into a narrow strip of land; there is no humanitarian zone that has not been bombed or invaded. Deir al balah was considered one of the last safe zones in gaza- and now that illusion has been destroyed too.

Just a few days ago, Siraj had told us that the violence of the IOF had been only a street away from where he and his family were encamped, and that his extended family were displaced in the aftermath.

It is a claustrophobic, uncertain existence many of us will likely never have to experience.

I will try to keep this as brief as possible. Since Siraj's parents and siblings got displaced and have now become fully dependent on Siraj for funds, his family has been seeing some dire circumstances.

First of all, I need you to understand the kind of pressure Siraj is under right now:

His own family which consists of 5 members

His father’s family also of 5 members

His younger brother’s family of 3

His older sister’s family of 6- she is a doting mother to four children

His younger sister and her own family of 4.

I need you to understand that there are 23 people in total for whom Siraj is the sole provider for at the moment.

Currently all 23 members of Siraj's family forced to share two tents. While the funds did go into procuring a second tent, there is STILL not nearly enough space. The women are suffering from a lack of privacy, and it is dangerous for the children as epidemics are spreading in the camp- Amir, Siraj’s son is already suffering from a severe skin infection. Living in such close quarters with no option of quarantine only puts everyone else (including all Amir's cousins) at risk of infection, at a time where they quite literally cannot afford it with the way medical infrastructure in Gaza is in shambles atm.

With your help, Siraj has successfully raised 50K, but the fundraiser is slowing once again.

Currently Siraj is at 50.8k / 82k

To help his family, He needs to raise 55K by monday i.e the next 2 DAYS.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that in all of 12 hours today, Siraj Abudayeh could only raise $30 CAD .

It is devastating how quickly the donations dropped and the fundraiser stagnated with Siraj relocating to a safer camp ( the important word here being "safer", a comparative degree as there is no true safety anywhere in Gaza)

It is true that Siraj set up a short term goal of $10000 CAD because he wanted to relocate quickly with his family. He feared that he would be caught in the line of fire and just mere weeks later the IOF attacked the Khan Younis area. You have to understand that this relocation though necessary, is an unfortunate blow to Siraj's finances. He has had to dip into the donations to procure necessary items of survival like tents, food etc. There has also been transportation costs, and commission rate on monetary transactions! So all in all this has set back Siraj's plans to invest in the reconstruction of his house.

Listen! I have said it before and I am saying this again, campaigns set up for rebuilding Palestinian homes is no less important than evacuation funds...I do not want to assume but it seems like less and less attention is being paid to efforts of rebuilding Palestinian homes! If truly we believe in a Free Palestine then this cannot happen. It is condescending as outsiders to pick and choose when to focus on rebuilding Palestine! And yes I say Palestine because it is the people of the soil who make it so. Siraj is Palestine ! His family is Palestine ! The thousands of Gazan families are all Palestine !!

I know the $82000 CAD seems daunting but if we can even spare $5 CAD steadily, we can get there. Siraj is not even asking for 82k now, his next short term goal is $20k. Please help him reach there. Please do not look away. I promise you, your $5 matters immensely. And I promise you that you are not alone in this:

Help Siraj Rebuild & Relocate!

Hey everyone, recently I've been in contact with @siraj2024, who's family has been forced to relocate 6 times since their home was destroyed at the beginning of this violent occupation, and their current tent has little to sustain them. His 3 young children have had their childhoods stolen from them, spend their days hauling water over long distances & maintaining the tent to guard against sickness & disease. Even then, what ever water they might manage to obtain is likely to be polluted with disease, just another danger amidst the ongoing danger and death that has become inescapable in Palestine. Right now Siraj is looking to rebuild his home in order to bring stability and safety back into his family's lives. Before this can happen, however, Siraj is attempting to meet an initial goal of 10k CAD in order to safely relocate his family during this terrifyingly violent time. Not only have I personally been in contact with Siraj, but this campaign has been vetted & verified by @nabulsi and countless others, so PLEASE don't hesitate to donate & boost this post. Every reblog & donation counts, especially at a time where donations are slowing.

help siraj rebuild! 🏡

while it's extremely important to help palestinians escape the current conditions in gaza, we have to do it with faith that the people of palestine will return to their homeland and rebuild. some have already taken up the difficult task of being the first to rebuild. i've had the pleasure of befriending siraj @siraj2024, whose goal is to rebuild his home in a safer location in gaza. his home was destroyed by the idf at the beginning of the war, and the 5 members of his family — including 3 young children — have been forced to relocate over and over. siraj's family recently raised enough money to relocate from the dangerous situation they were in, but for the time being they are still living out of makeshift tents. their current goal is $20 000 CAD for building supplies. i cannot overstate how important it is to help provide this young family with a cool and stable shelter; temperatures in gaza are extremely hot in august (around 40°C/100°F) and there is very little potable water available in the strip. with this new home, siraj can keep his sweet children safe now, and, one day soon, provide shelter to his extended family when they make their return.

siraj and his family are currently hoping to raise $20 000 CAD for basic building materials for an initial building, which will eventually be extended into a real house and home. even a small donation will go a long way toward helping.
