#just reread all of our texts from when everything went down bc I felt like being in a bad mood evidently but#god it pisses me off to no end how she fucking handled everything. like I know itâs obvious she was going through something and just#using me as an outlet or something and projecting things onto me but still. fucking DAMN dude what WAS that#looking back I do actually think I handled it literally as best as I couldâve. but shit still sucks dude! I hate that this is how it went!!#reading my pleas to talk to her in person followed up a week later with .Iâm going to rip the bandaid off since u brushed over everything#MOTHER FUCKER YOU DIDNT EVEN GIVE ME THE CHANCE TO BRUSH IT OFF YOU WOUDKNT SPEAK TO ME!!! FUCK!!#had talked to my therapist at the time about it a tad but the fact that this event has happened multiple times has majorly fucked with me#had asked her what Iâm doing that people consistently refuse to talk to me about things until it boils over and our relationship ends#abruptly and violently every time. I mean EVERY time!! this is the third time itâs happened!! obviously Iâm doing something!!#and Iâm so scared of it ever happening again. this was definitely the worst itâs ever been but I canât go through that again I canât I cant#I love the friends I have now so so so dearly they are such amazing people and I donât think they would do something like that to me#and it would be cruel of me to think they would even be capable of it either#but it really seems like there is some part of me that is so overwhelmingly unbearable that given enough time I have the capability to just#push people over the edge. and I donât know what to change about myself to ensure it doesnât happen bc I donât know why it happens#and Iâm constantly terrified of losing them but I donât want to be overbearing or like? manipulative or some shit and constantly ask for#reassurance bc that seems like it would get old fast#but also there are things I want/need to talk to like. someone about and idk if I need to just save it for a therapist and not bring it up#otherwise bc itâs. like heavy stuff I guess. and it had felt good to be able to talk about things with just a friend previously but I know#the fact that I did that played a part in what happened. but I really need to talk to someone about any of it#and I donât know how to do so without just spewing everything out at once and just completely overstepping boundaries I guess#and I hate that sheâs the only one who knows everything. there are so many things that took me so long to open up to people about and sheâs#the only person who knows EVERYTHING. and itâs unbearable. it actually is. I donât know how to start over. in a way thatâs healthy for#eveyone involved. but I know itâs also bad to keep everything from people#idk when reading her texts she kept bringing up that it felt like I never trusted her or let her do anything for me. and I see where she#was coming from. but at the same time I thought I leaned on her so much. I guess Iâm realizing Iâve never actually had a healthy#friendship/relationship thatâs lasted before. thatâs really fucking sad lmao. Iâm genuinely a shitty person a bit I think#euuugghhhh okay enough is enough I guess

â§RECKLESS || percy jackson x fem!reader
summary: as the group go to their next destination they arrive at the arch, annabeth and y/nâs momâs sanctuary for some time. just when they think theyâre safe, things donât go to plan.
word count: FUCKIN 5878 NO BC IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR THREE HOURSSSSS AHH
warnings: y/n and percy being in a enemies or lovers trope, annabeth and grover being third and fourth wheelers, arguing, near death experiences, slight blood warnings, poisoned percy, a bit of crying? LIKE A TINY BIT, y/n is very argumentative.
as the group made their way to the st. louis arch, they werenât doing very good. at all.
on their way, the original plan was to get straight to las vegas, but thanks to the monsters and not wanting to take a break, their train got ruined by the mother of monsters.
as they walked into the front entrance of the arch that annabeth and y/n recommended. they had stated that monsters canât get in and it will give them more time to find some way to get to las vegas a lot quicker than on foot.
âsix-hundred and thirty feet wideâ annabeth startedââsix-hundred and thirty feet tall, both two within an inchâ
as they four of them walked fast enough to cause an old lady whiplash, percy and grover listened to the two of them explain their mothers sanctuary.
âitâs got no internal support. each side is balanced perfectly against one anotherâ y/n states once more as annabeth nodded along with what she said.
âthe arch is held up by symmetry, itâs held up by math!â annabeth expressed.
âoh and itâs earthquake proofâ y/n added to annabethâs comment, giving annabeth a small glance before they walked down the steps of the entrance into the small museum full of kids on a field trip.
âitâs also high enough so poseidon canât ruin itâŚbut i donât think mom would appreciate his child being in here, so.â y/n looked over to percy who gave her a tight thin lipped smile before mumbling.
âniceâŚâ annabeth and percy looked at the two before giving each other a look to soon squeeze themselves through the group kids.
âexcuse meâ annabeth mumbled to the boys and girls who turned and moved out of the way for the four.
âthis is how you show athena your love, a monument to the power of perfectionâ annabeth told.
âitâs a monument to some other stuff tooâ grover added as they looked around and saw other things regarding more olden times, guns, head skeletons of buffalo and other things.
âyour talking about what some humans want this place to be about. weâre talking about what it actually isâ annabeth placed her hand over her own chest while looking at percy and grover who frowned but agreed nonetheless.
y/n rolled her eyes when she saw the amount of âskeletonsâ and other things that litterd the walls and glass casing all around them. the people seeming to be pleased enough at what they saw to take a picture.
âitâs sad to know they donât know what it really means. very pathetic really.â y/n mumbled to herself as she turned to annabeth. percy looked over at her and blinked before widening his eyes and choosing not to say anything about what she said.
âwhateverâŚweâre safe here, right?â grover made sure to comprehend as they walked.
âno monsters can enterâŚnot even echidnaâ y/n reassured grover who nodded nervously.
âweâre safeâ annabeth added on.
âgreatâŚwell since our train exploded! iâm going to see if thereâs another one we can get tickets on. we canât stay here forever.â grover looked over at the huge plastered picture of buffalo being attacked and hunted by hunters.
looking overly slowly at the three he said once moreââjust because weâre prey doesnât mean we need to be helpless.â turning around to leave, annabeth nervously cleared her throat and walked up to him.
âwait! iâm going to go with you. you two wait here, donât leave and donât moveâ annabeth ordered y/n and percy who frowned their eyebrows.
âwhere would we go?â y/n asked her with a raised eyebrow. annabeth rolled her eyes and caught up to grover who walked rather fast.
as the two of y/n and percy watched annabeth and grover walk away, percy decided now would probably be a good time to start a bit of conversation to stop the awkward silence.
âhe doesn't like it when people mess with animals,â he added.
y/n didnât both turn to his side but acknowledged his voiceââyeah. i know.â
percy turned to y/n who kept her eyes focused on annabeth and grover even though they were long past the barrier of her eyesight.
ââŚwhy are you so quiet?â percy mumbled, his eyes looking over y/nâs frame that was unmoving from her standing position.
âwhy does it matter?â y/n turned to his presence now. seeing he was a bit away from here
âit doesn't itâs justâŚyou knowâŚkind of awkward?â percy nervously mumbled.
sighing percy didnât want to really give up on the conversation knowing it would probably be best. the last thing he needed and had the time for was for y/n to snap at him, but it was worth the shot.
âso, this is your moms place?â
y/n kept quiet and turned her eyes and head another direction from percy who kept speaking. clearing his throat he spokeâ
âbe right down just going to the pottyâ he said in a girly squeaky voice. this gained y/nâs attention.
as childish and stupid as it was, it was definitely an uplift from the previous mood. she lightly grinned but turned her head.
âlistenâŚme and you donât get along and we both know thatââ
âis it that obvious?â
âshut up and listen okay?â y/n sighed as percy nodded shamefully and let her continue .
âi know you said it all in me and annabethâs headâŚmostly mine? that i tell myself that our mother cares because itâs easier that way.â
percy let his eyebrows frown once more as he shook his headââi didnât say that?â he looked at y/n who turned her head to him and gave him a small look of which spokeââreally?â
he shrugged it off and continued to talkââlook ive been a demigod sinceâŚâ looking off to the side to calculate he finally came with an answerââlast saturday. you shouldnât listen to me.â he told her as y/n let what he said soak in.
looking off to the side a bit she came up with some ideaâplan for him to take, an offer.
âyou know, this is my mothers place. butâŚa temple is a temple. maybe you can say hi to your dad while your here?â she explained.
percy seemed to almost take up her offer but quickly denied it. not wanting to really contact poseidon at the moment.
âno thanks.â he quickly shrugged off. this came undeniably confusing to y/n.
âwhat could it hurt?â she genuinely wanted her answer but he still shook his head.
âyour think with your motherâŚi get it, itâs different, it works for you. but my fatherâŚi donât want anything from him. he had his chancesâhonestly youâve done more for me in the past free days than my fathers done my entire life. if i have to stick with someone iââ
trailing off as he caught himself y/n seemed to catch his slight slip up and tilted her head to the side a bit. her eyes looking him up and down before she smirked a bitââcareful..i think you were about to call me a friend.â
before the beginning of the quest. before all of this. they had claimed in stone, they were and would never see themselves as friends. nothing more nothing less: the two of them simply didnât see eye to eye. their priorities were set on two different things, and they both knew that.
but, things seemed to have change a bit on one end, and a lot on the other.
percy slightly looked down at the floor below as y/n turned her own head away from his.
âsomewhere around here the Oracle is laughing at us but you knowââ
as she said this percy seemed to feel insanely dizzy and instantly fell to the floor, y/n being there to catch himââwhoa! percy? whatâs going on?â she asked him, being careful not to bombard him with too many questions given the fact he just fell out.
her arms being slightly wrapped around his shoulders he held onto her as he let her slowly let go of him. percy slightly sat down onto the floor as he caught his balance.
âhey! what happened?â grover and annabeth came running immediately when they saw him fall.
âi thinkâŚi think those stinger things were poisonousâŚâ percy breathed heavily, his breath seeming to shorten on supply.
y/n looked around and it seemed to click for both the athena childrenââi have an ideaâ the both of them claimed.
as the two of them grabbed up on percy they found themself in the water that sat in front of the museum. with percy sitting down into it, the other three stood as they scooped and splashed percy from the head down with water.
he sat there and took it as they kept going scoop from scoop, hoping something would happen.
passers walked by and some stood to watch what they were doing and they their were kids sitting in the fountain but none took it upon themselves to stop it.
âthe water cured him back at camp! it should work with poison too!â y/n found herself quickening her scoops of water while annabeth looked momentarily at her sister who wore a very worried expression.
if anything, sheâs never seen her this worried. not for a while. not for percy.
âyou knowâi think, i think this is workingâ percy grabbed onto y/nâs hand who helped him standââthis was a great callâ he acknowledged their idea but only to end up stumbling back down into the water with even more dizziness.
âor not.â he breathed out.
âmaybe it needs to be naturally running water for Poseidon to heal him?â y/n mumbled while she placed her hand comfortingly over percyâs shoulder.
grover looked to annabeth who went to speak but just then they heard crashing and sirens going down just ahead of them. they all went to look and seen a police car being flipped into another car.
âwe need to get back inside!â annabeth went to pick up percy along with grover but y/n was quick to deny.
âno we need to keep trying!â
â this isnât working y/nâand sheâs coming!â grover sadly looked at y/n who stressed her expression of worry towards percy who looked up at her momentarily before the two of them looked ahead along with annabeth and grover to see echidna slowly strutting her way over to them with a grin.
y/n breathed out and quickly thoughtââokay look, weâll take percy inside and weâll go to the temples alterâ y/n went to pick up percy who grabbed onto her arm and hand as the other two helped to pick him up as well.
âalter? where is there an alter?â grover asked, frowning his eyebrows at the two.
âthe highest pointâthe best view!â
âokay! but what good is that even going to do us?â grover stressed once more.
y/n sighed and looked over to annabeth who looked at her and percy.
percy had his grip held tight on her as she equally had the same amount of strength being held onto him to secure him from falling.
âweâre going to get to the top, and weâre going to ask our mom for helpâ she breathed out. grover seemed to stop for a bit along with y/n who was nervous about this plan.
âask mom for help? annabeth are you insane?â
âi thought we didnât ask for help?â percy put his two senses in making annabeth look over to him. seeing they didnât have much time for anymore conversations, annabeth ushered the group to begin walking.
âcome on; we need to keep movingâ annabeth spoke in a hurry.
grover placed percyâs other arm over his shoulder to help balance out their walk and annabeth stayed to y/nâs side.
just as they began to walk and y/n with annabeth failed to walk a bit and happened to stumble behind. echidna began screeching to the two girl who turned and startedâcouldnât helpâbut listen. their expressions becoming more flat, a bit worried.
percy took a heavy notice of y/nâs absence and turned to see mainly her with a saddened expression on her face.
why did she look like that? what was she seeing? what was she hearing? his thoughts raced. seeming to focus on her rather than himself being poisoned.
she let her eyes widen and she snapped out of some trance along with her sister who gripped her armââguys? did you hear that?â y/n looked over to annabeth who nodded immediately.
grover and percy however?
âhear what?â percy asked her with concern. grover shook his head and y/n looked at annabeth who sadly looked down.
âcome onâletâs keep walkingâgo help percyâ annabeth told y/n who jogged to percyâs side and grabbed only his arm once more.
ăŕ¨ŕ§ă
as the group hurried their way around the people who were mindlessly talking with themselvesâcompletely unaware of the danger that was happening for the demigod children. they kept turning around to make sure their backs were clear.
some people would momentarily look at the group who carried one boy who looked like he just seen a ghost as they had their wet clothes tracing the floor as they walked.
the four of them getting into the small sitting elevator, they sat downââwhat was that back there? what did you guys hear?â he asked the two sisters, but his main eyes trained on y/n who didnât say a word. annabeth doing the same , she found her pinky slowly reaching over to y/nâs.
she got the hint and fully placed her hand over annabethâs. percy looked down at their hands and came with the conclusion.
âshe spoke to you twoâ percy breathed. his body was cold, and wet. the poison doing nothing more and adding onto his weakness and cold body.
âalecto did that with me. back in the museum back in new yorkâ he recalled. annabeth and y/n still not speaking a word, only looking down and blinking momentarily.
percy didnât really want to admit but he was becoming concerned for y/nâs mind. what did she hear that was bad?
âwhat did she say?â he asked once more.
just then, annabeth looked up in a hurry and squeezed y/nâs hand who looked up as wellâand there she was. echidna.
she stood over the small metal balcony with her moneyed baby right behind her.
just as the doors shut they saw the two horns. y/n let her eyes widen along with the rest of the groupâs.
grover gulped but began to talkââwas that the chimera?â he looked over to y/n who place she head in her hands and held them their in stressâpercy looking over with frowned eyebrows as his wet hair dripped into his eye.
âiâi think that was the chimera!â grover worryingly spoke. percy let his focus set on y/n who kept nervously looking anywhere but the group.
âhow did the chimera even get inside here? how did any monster get inside hereââ
ây/n?â percy breathed out, his worry building up on y/n who kept quiet. annabeth looked over at her sister who didnât even look at her either.
âweâre in a secretary, athena would have to let her in but why would she do that?â
ây/n!â percy called out to her once more. seeing her eye finally set up upon his own he hoped they could keep their eyes trained on one another.
âwhat did echidna say to you?â he askedâdemanded and answer.
she worryingly looked back down before shaking her head a bit, biting on the inside of her cheek.
âshe said my impertinence ruined our mother pride. and that that, would be our doom.â she looked angrily over at percy who shook his head.
âimpertinence? what kind ofââ finally recalling. medusaâs head.
giving y/n the look of knowing she gave him a look as well as annabeth and grover watched them talk.
â medusaâs head.â he nodded while y/n shook her head, a frown setting upon her features.
âi embarrassed my motherâŚâ
percy shook his head while trying to clear up his running thoughtsââbutâiâm the one who sent the head to olympus? i sighed the noteââ
âand i went along with it! it embarrassed herâŚnow sheâs angry. because of your impertinence, and because i was dumb enough to go along with it, we wonât get any help, we wonât get an answer from her!â y/n shouted to percy who shook his head.
ây/nââ
âno! annabeth, he needs to understand this isnât some game, this isnât camp, we can seriously die out here, and he canât just go around sending dead body parts to the gods just because?â y/n stressed even more as percy nervously looked at y/n who avoided his eye contact once more.
âguysâŚwhat are we going to do?â grover broke the silence as they seemed to be near the top of the arch.
âshe isn't going to help us when we get to the top to have percyâ annabeth expressed to grover who cut her offââno i mean what are we going to do about echidna and chimera? they're going to be right being us,â he exclaimed.
as the four of them looked at each otherâpercy hoping to catch y/nâs eyes but failed he looked down at the floor.
ăŕ¨ŕ§ă
âweâre not going to have much timeâ as the group let themselves out of the elevator, y/n getting out first to leave percy with grover and annabeth to help him out.
percy took a hard notice to this but tried to shrug us offââtheyâll be up here any minute. and if our mother isnât going to protect us, then weâll just have to fight it out up hereâ y/n finished as they walked up the short amount of stairs to the top.
once they did was when y/n lost her confidence for a second and saw a huge crowd talking among themselves with phones taking pictures and smiles on their faces.
and when percy, grover and annabeth were behind her, they saw the extent of trouble they were in.
âoh noâŚwe gotta get everybody out of hereâ grover expressed with worry as he held onto percy.
percy looked to y/n who seemed to smile a bit with her idea.
running to the fire alarm she pulled it, setting off a loud beep that got everybody's attention.
as everyone slightly panicked and walked their way down the hall with the others, y/n placed her hand onto annabethâs shoulder and ushers them along the hall.
âyou guys follow the group down the stepsââ
âwhat?â percy hurried to look at y/n who momentarily look at him then back at grover who spoke.
âno, noâweâwere not spitting upâ grover expressed.
âgrover come on!â
ây/n iâm not leaving you here!â annabeth spoke to her sister who gave her a sad look.
âno⌠no no no no weâre all getting out of here togetherâ percy breathed out, hoping to get y/nâs attention. once he did he kept their eyes focused on one another.
âwe wonât make it! the chimera is a demigod killer! someone has to stay back to slow her down and buy everyone some timeâ y/n walked with her hand on annabethâs back while they walked to the steps with everyone going down in a hurry.
once they got to them, grover, annabeth and percy turned to y/n who stood at the door to make sure she shut it before they left.
âokayâonce you get downstairs you need get him to the river. and donât stop. not till you get to hades. not till you have the bolt, do you understand?â y/n looked at the three before looking at percy, he shook his head in denial.
ây/n you canât just stay here and say that and expect me to listenââ
âdo what i say annabeth! just this once, okay?â she pleaded. annabeth shook her head with a frown upon her lips, forever going the same.
âokay go!â she heard the footsteps of the two right behind and went to shut the door only for percy to speak.
not wanting to let her go he quickly came with a plan.
âwait!ââ taking the pen that formed into a sword out of his pocket he held it to y/n who looked at it.
flipping it around to make sure the handle would be in her touch, he held it out to her and spoke once moreââtake thisâ he held out to her.
as she went to reach slowly, he waited for her grip to hold tightly onto itâonly then did he switch sides, pushing her into the room and closing the door.
âpercy!â y/n yelled out to percy who made sure the door was locked.
âpercy!?â grover yelled. the three of them baging on the door as percy breathed heavily, his body weak and pale.
âpercy no! donât do this! theyâll kill you!â y/n yelled her voice becoming louder but more weak.
âposiden never helped me before. he wasnât gonna start now. i wouldâve never made it to hades. but you can. and now you will.â percy talked to them before he walked away from the foot. their banding never stopping.
âpercy! please?! you canât do this!â y/n cried out.
walking towards echidna and the chimera who walked their way to percy whoâs eyesight blur more and more. causing him to stumble and his weakened grip on his sword.
âthis is the end sweetheart.â echidna spoke softly, her motherly tone never wavered. âdonât fight it. youâll only make her angry.â she warned.
as the chimera walked over to percy he held his sword up higher with determination in his eyes. the chimera began to growl as she went to open her mouth, inside a small orange and red glow becoming prominent, percy swung his sword at the leg of the chimera, making it rawr out in anger and slight pain.
ăŕ¨ŕ§ă
behind the door y/n banged harder and harder, hoping somehow he would come back and change his mind.
annabeth couldnât watch her sister be like thisâhurt, confused, mainly disappointed. turning sound as she reached into her pocket to grab her own sword that extended, she let it change its form into a smaller pick pocket knife.
âyou two! go now, go to the bottom of the steps and wait outside, police are bound to show up, so stay with them and donât move! iâll meet you down there with percy!â y/n demanded her sister and best friend who shook their head.
ây/n pleaseââ
âannabeth! listen to me! okay? iâll be okay, iâll see you guys down there, go!â she pushed them slightly as they looked at y/n once more who nodded to the two, giving them a slight smile.
annabeth gave one back as she nodded and grabbed along of grover, the two of them making their way down the stairs.
as y/n turned around the let her knife be placed into the middle of the lock, letting it extend, it did just enough to to break the lock and break the metal of the door.
ăŕ¨ŕ§ă
pulling and pushing its paw up, she pushed percy far into the metal railing of the side of the wall, making him fall and yell out in pain. the chimera snarling at percy. as she walked over to percy once more he laid onto the floor with weak arms and body to see it open its mouth and their in the pit of her throat, fire. being bubbled and arousing through the back of her throat.
âpercy!â y/n yelled. he turned around immediately to see y/n run towards him and pull him out of the way of the chimeraâs fire that erupted through its throat and mouth, spreading and melting the floor below. y/n grabbed ahold of y/n as she pulled him away form the fire.
his grip holding onto her to make sure she was safe and unharmed, y/n quickly checked over percy as he nodded slightly.
in the distance, echidna raised her hand and flexed it towards the floor before them, a huge gaping hole being torn open into the carpet and metal floor. the wind from the highness of the arch blowing into the faces of y/n and percy who held each other.
the chimera roared loudly as y/n went to help percy stand up the two for them made their way over to the chimera with their swords in hand, y/n made her way in front of percy who noticed this and tired to quicken his pace so that he was in front of her.
swinging her sword the chimera dodged it and hit y/n so hard she passed out right onto the other side of the hole.
ây/n! percy yelledââ soon percy tried his turn only to be hit with the chimeraâs horns. throwing him back in the walk and down the gaping hole.
the chimera seeming pleased, it walked its way along with echidna to see percy still holding on.
ây/n! wake upââ he grunted.
y/n paid along the side of the carpet ground with her head pounding.
âso unfair. you never had a chance did you?â echidna looked down at percy who was praying to whoever that y/n woke up right now.
âif only someone cared enough about you to provide you with oneâ she tilted her head as percy grunted and held onto the metal plate that was the only thing supporting him right now.
ây/n?!â he called out once more.
just afar, she grunted and let herself slowly wake up. just as she looked over and grabbed ahold of her sword. seeing echidna shake her head down into the hole she stumbled her way up, the blood on the head running down her eyebrow and down the side of her eye.
âpercy?â she looked and saw he was nowhere to be found.
putting up all her strength, she stood up and hit echidna across the back of her head with her sword making echidna help out, the chimera turning around to her mother to her y/n had yelled outâ
âpercy!â she yelled seeing him reaching out to her as he fell, she took her jump and went right after him.
the two of them falling down further and further, y/n stretched her hand far enough for the two of them to be holding each other's hand.
as y/n felt herself lose consciousness once more from her injury, percy gripped her hand even tighter, and just as he turned a bit from the air around them, he saw a huge water thing, coming right towards them.
ăŕ¨ŕ§ă
when percy came to. he was under the green water. the small fish and thing around him, he hurried his eyes and head to turn and see y/n not too far from him. her eyes still closed and her hair clouding around her.
swimming out and going to pull her up to the surface, percy felt himself and her go back down a bitâlooking to see her foot caught and stuck around something that held her in place.
swimming down a bit to held her foot get unstuck he grunted and strained as the bubbles from his mouth started to flow and go up to the surface. pulling and pulling he suddenly saw something.
something glowing in the green waterââyou are frightened.â it claimed.
blinking his eyes to see what it was he frowned, but kept pulling at y/nâs foot, his only priority was to get her out.
âitâs alright percy. your father sent me to tell you, itâs alright.â he paused a bit at this and looked over at the flowing glow.
âjust breath.â she instructed. going to do soâhe abruptly stopped and went back to pull at y/nâs foot. her head still bleeding and her body still unconscious.
âyour father is here, heâs always been hereâ she continued to talk as percy pulled at y/nâs foot.
âitâs so hard for him to stand back, to see you struggle. it is so hard for us all. but heâs here, and heâs so very proud. trust him. trust yourself. stopping his movements and looking over at the flowing glow, he held onto y/nâs leg who started to shake awake.
her eyes slowly opened and focused to see her and percy and somehow ended up into the water. she looked to see percy looking over at something, following his gaze she saw what he was seeing and frowned.
âjust breath.â she told once more and when y/n turned down to percy, he breathed in and seemed to be breathing just fine under the water.
looking up at y/n he saw her holding her breath and went right back to pulling her foot with all his might, this time she was there to help. pulling up her foot, percy came with an idea, one that she definitely wouldnât like.
going up to her, face to face, he placed his hand on her shoulder then soon her neckâif y/n couldnât speak with her words, she definitely would with her expressions. with one that wokeââwhat are you doing?â
he looked down with his eyes at her mouth and she immediately shook her head knowing exactly what he was implying. he looked at her and grabbed ahold of her cheek while she looked down to pull at her foot, her lungs burning and screaming for air.
percy gaining her attention, she blinked the water going in and out of her eyes and she held his eyes with her own. frowning she nodded her head slightly and let percy lean in under the waterâhis lips setting upon hers he breathed in his air to buy her more time. once they retracted, y/n and percy held eye contact before he kept his hand held on her own.
once he was down to her foot, he tugged as she pulled and soon she was free.
grabbing only y/n, the two of them hurried and swam to the top.

when they got to the surface, they swam to the concrete surface and pulled themselves along the metal rails. y/n got the helping hand of percy who pulled her with the two of his hands.
âyour okay, are you okay? your okay, right!?â percy rushed to ask y/n who caught her breath and immediately reached up to touch the blood and wound that happened to close up.
looking at percy who half his hand on y/nâs arm and neck he checked her body and she took note of how he was healed as well.
âpercy! iâm okayâŚim okayâ she soothed him as he slowled his movements and looked into her eyes.
âyou jumped after meâŚyou followed me down not knowing what would happenââ
âhow could i not percy! how could i not? you are so careless, reckless and so selfish to think nobody would think of you and how you could have died! you left meâ us, behind in the staircase to go off on our own and save your mom from the underworld!? how messed up is that percy! she would want to see her son! not two kids who she doesnât know!â y/n percy in his chest who stumbles back.
he looked nervously up at y/n trying to grab her hand only for her to slap it awayââyour selfish, greedy, reckless and so so stupid percy jackson! and iâm stupid enoughâŚâ when he heard this he looked at her from the ground to see her slowly shaking her head at percy who looked up at her with hope.
âiâm stupid enough to be the idiot one as well and jump after you. and iâm stupid enough to have cared so much. too much about you. percyâŚyou canât do things like thatâŚnot now, not even. not as long as iâm alive.â she felt her eyes water a bit with the amount of worry he put her through when she was behind that door and out of his reach.
percy took note to this and hurried to grab her up and hug her tightly. she arms immediately finding their way around his body and his wrapped along her body as well. the two of them held each other so tightly they forgot about the world around them.
when they let go from the hug that seemed to have lasted forever, sorry nervously laughed. y/n looked confusingly at him with a small grin on her face.
âsoâŚwhat happened underwaterââ
âdonât!â y/n placed her hands over percyâs mouth who smiled at her as she shook her head in a hurry, her cheeks seeming to redden.
ây/n!â
âpercy!â two voices yelled from behind them. the two of them turned around to see grover and annabeth running to them.
âannabeth!â y/n happily yelled. as they embraced each other, percy hugged grover who hugged him tightly.
âyour safeâ annabeth breathed outââbut howââ
âdoesn't matter! what mattersâŚis that weâre together, safe.â y/n smiled as she turned around to grover and percy. her eyes lingering on percy a bit more which seemed to not go unnoticed by grover and annabeth.
âcome on! we need to get movingâ annabeth held her hand along y/nâs back who walked with her.
as they walked, annabeth and y/n talked amongst themselves while grover and percy walked.
grover noticed how percyâs eyes never left y/nâs form and his focus never left her.
âso..â he started. percy let his eyes linger but his head turn to grover before his eyes focused on him.
âwhat happened under water?â grover finished making percy abruptly stopped, pulling grover with him laughed.
âwhatâhow do youââ
âmy ears hear many things dudeâ he smiled at percy whose face was grew redder by the second.
turning to see y/n and annabeth still walking and talking he turned to grover, turning him around so their backs were friend to the girls.
âunder the waterâŚi found out i can breath. but y/n was stuck soâŚto give her more airâ i had to share my airââ
âso you kissed?â grover interrupted making percy grow red all overââdonât say it like that and donât let her you know! sheâll kill meâŚshe also. happened to tell me she actually cares about me, a lotâ percy smiled at the recalling of what she said.
âsoâŚshe basically confessed she likes you?â grover added once more. percy looked to the side as he nodded slowly.
âdude!â
âgrover please! donât tell herââ
âi wonât i wonât!â
percy nervously breathed out before letting go of grover who straightened his jacket.
as the two turned around to see the girl waiting but still taking, grover turned it percy and yelled with a smileââso y/n what happened!?â he ran over to y/n making percy run after him
âgrover!â percy yelled.

what do you think about a little bit of angst with op boys traveling in the time to the past (bcs a enemy fruit power or something) and they interactions with their s/o that is dead in the future? hehe just wondering
omg i love this so much. i suck at writing angst but ill try!! a/n: ill be posting three different fics for all three! (i'll add link at the end once the other two are up too!); not proofread! zoro's part sani's part
nine years ft. monkey d luffy!
luffy outstretched his arms, stifling a yawn. peering through blurry gaze, he tried to sit up. his head felt like it was going to split apart. the headache ravaged the back of his head and he tried to focus his gaze on the people in front of him.
"oi?" a young, sorta squeaky voice called out to him, "who are you?"
"who are you? and why do you look familiar?" another voice asked.
"let him atleast come to his senses." a young woman yelled at the two boys and luffy blinked twice as to take in the scene in front of him. her red hair shone under the sun, catching sunlight that reflected her fiery temperament.
"nami? is that you?" the older man's voice was gruff. he sat up and looked around as if observing the deck of the sunny for the first time.
the red-head was alarmed. with eyes widening, she asked, "is it actually you? luffy?"
"that's not me!!" the younger version quipped up, pouting when he stared at the older version, "i don't look like that."
"what do you mean? i think he's good-looking" another voice kissed the old captain's ears.
"yn?" the older version looked over to your voice.
"yn?" his eyes were frantic, as if taking all of as soon as he could. he sat up so fast, he almost could feel metal on his tongue, he could almost faint again.
but none of that mattered.
his fingers outstretched as if to feel your skin against his palm, as if to reassure himself that you were there.
"hey?" you seemed to chuckle awkwardly, backing off slightly at his sudden intrusion, "do i know you?"
there you were. there was his girl.
alive.
this wasn't one of those dreams that felt realer than life. you were there. so close, he could almost touch you and hold you and sob into you.
except you were nineteen again.
"hey, old man" zoro piped up, threatening the older man with a glare, "do we know you?"
"it's me" his throat was parched and it hurt to speak, "it's luffy."
"no, im luffy, you old man!!" the younger version piped up again, pouting even more now.
that interaction was three days ago and in the meantime, the crew and older version of their captain had both come to accept the strangeness of the situation. it was surreal, seeing his crew-mates young. to see them so full of dreams, their bodies barely beaten and bruised. it was surreal to see them so tiny, so inexperienced to what was about to come.
it was surreal to see you again.
you were nineteen. it would take two years before you and his younger version would get together. it would take seven more years till he asked you to marry him. it would take nine more years till he lost you.
but right now you were nineteen and when you smiled, the sun caught onto your skin, painting you in a golden shade. right now, you still snickered when you found something funny, the laugh sort of airy and hearty. right now, you still offered him a portion of your food as if you didn't want it. right now, the younger version of him didn't even know he loved you.
a part of him wanted to go yell at his younger version. hold him by the collar and threaten him to keep you safe. but all of that would be of no use.
the fates were cruel.
the deck was slightly chilly in the night air and you sat next to him. the aged captain didn't ignore the way you restlessly moved your legs. and he held back from putting his hand on your knee to calm you down.
"so..." you started and he knew that tone too well. you were gonna ask him something meekly, as in unsure if you wanna know the answer. you faced him, "what is future like? do you become the future king of pirates? is the crew together?"
"ah" luffy laughed, hiding this sting you sweet voice inflicted on him, "yes, the crew is still together. we even had some new members."
"really?" you beamed, "and me and you? are we still friends?"
"i-" he snuck in a breath and laughed again, hoping it would ease the pain in his voice, "ofcourse we are. we are the closest of friends. we will always be, till the end of time."
"no way! we're closer than you're with zoro?" your expression turned smug, "ha! i knew it. i am way way funnier than zoro."
luffy just nodded, finding an invisible rope round his throat as he looked at you. he was afraid as if one wrong word and he'd jinx everything, he'd be back in his solemn reality.
you spoke again, "i must say, did growing up make you less energetic? you're so quite luffy." then you corrected yourself, "ah, i mean like ofcourse growing up must make you less energet-"
"yn," luffy cut you off, "i love you"
your eyes widened comically, air stuck in your throat, "huh??"
"as a friend." he smiled at your confused figure, "i thought i should let you know while i was here."
"oh" a blush crept up your face, spreading till your ears, "i mean- i love you too- as a friend ofcourse!"
"i'm glad." luffy gave you a soft smile. his heart ached when you return back the smile with no hesitancy, "i'm glad i got to know you."
then you looked away from the older man and luffy knew it meant you were blushing even more furiously. then through a meek whisper you said, "you're being so sappy. stop it-"
"DINNER'S READY!" the young chef's voice boomed, snapping you two out of the conversation. the aged captain involuntarily jumped up at the name of dinner.
"glad to see you are the same about food still." he looked down at you, laughing. and he laughed with you.
he laughed because he knew in every timeline, he still had those nine years with you.
and he'd love you through them over and over again.

(OOC: I'm putting this under a read more, bcs it's long. S o r r y the Doctor thinks a l o t)
Like Alice, the Doctor always tried to believe three impossible things before breakfast.
The first, an immovable statement in his daily practice, was that good would always pervail. The impossibility was in the word "always". Still, it kept him going - the Universe had kindness in it, in spite of the numerous heart wrenching displays of cruelty he had gotten well accustomed with in his travels. There were trillions of marvels to smile about, such as people who had lost it all, in the direst of situations, spreading hope within their little found communities with the sweetest of gestures. He had seen it countless times, in fact he had participated. A single spark could often cause a chain reaction, if people's hearts were in the right place.
Right, that's the start of a smile. He incorporated from the wooden floor he unfortunately had fallen asleep at, after who knows how many days of sleep deprivation, supporting himself on the old console. He stared at the screen, he had managed to rearrange the TARDIS' architectural configuration almost in its entirety. The radar was still somewhat unreliable, yet it informed him that everyone was alive and, in fact, in this dimension. He didn't want to risk anyone becoming trapped in time, completely disintegrating, or worse.
Loss.
He wondered what had been of the people he had met on Gallifrey, his friends, his colleagues, his family. If the war had devastated the planet in its entirety... the odds of survival were grim. He chose to believe, for his second impossibility, that, somehow, at least some of them escaped, just like Vera, that they'd be safe, that...
He took a deep breath and shook his head. He didn't need to question it, or think it too much, just believe it. If he hoped hard enough, perhaps it would come true, besides, there wasn't much he could do, not at the moment. He examined the TARDIS' status. She seemed to be feeling better, the source of this improvement was unknown to him, but her energy was evenly distributed now save for the excess in the main console room. Hopefully that meant that most of the damage had been undone, that she was not suffering anymore, but he'd only make sure once he could take a look at the main console. The Doctor hadn't heard any more drumming, so he deducted the Master must have stopped messing with them. Perhaps, only perhaps, they had helped him attend to reason... he swallowed, tension fast returning to his body. He wrote a few more lines of code, making sure the design was stable, protected, not easily disrupted by the Master, and let go of the console. He drew a map on an old sheet of paper, it would be rather tragic to get lost with the correct arrangement.
He started walking towards the main console room, the image of the Master attacking him invading his mind, then Vera, oh Vera, yes the Magister was with her, so she should be safe... He was aware of the reassuring effect his presence had on her, and that he truly, deeply cared about her. The Magister would never let her get hurt if it was in his power, and he seemed rather determined before he left. He had shown her compassion, offered her protection, and demonstrated genuine, loving amiability, qualities he had long thought gone on him, and yet...
The third impossible thing he would attempt to believe in today was that, despite it all, the Master still had this part in him, that it could be recovered if nurtured enough. That, perhaps, he could for once, truly help him.
The shy smile that had formed on his face twitched, as he struggled to believe. Not too long after, he arrived at some familiar corridors. Yes, that was A- ...That room, and the kitchen was nearby. He peeked inside, noticing a familiar silhouette.
"...Magister, is that you?"

Posting this here just bc I doubt I'll finish this ever
It probably has a lot of writing mistakes and I wrote this months ago instead of sleeping so don't expect anything good :p
Forneus had a simple life. While she was traveling, she would look for food, be it fruits, vegetables or fishes. When she made her stop in her habitual spot from each realm, she would knit something. Be it toys for a few kids she would find on her journeys, or be it some piece of clothing.
And since she was just a friendly traveler, she wouldn't have many issues with each place she went, having sold items for the bishops of the old faith before, and her appearance gave the old Gods some kind of comfort for knowing she wouldnât do anything drastic. But now, with the bishops gone and the anxiety of who would now rule each place, she sometimes found it hard to travel, especially now.
Forneus wasn't a fool, she was aware that she was aging, but the black cat had her most precious gifts back.
Her children.
When The Lamb and Narinder had brought them back to her, the old cat felt like she was dreaming, touching their faces in an attempt to be reassured that it was real, that she wasn't, yet again, dreaming they were there. Forneus felt alive again that day.
With her kittens back, however, she had to teach them all the things that her mother had taught her once.
And that was what she was doing at the moment.
"Sweetheart, you're going to hurt yourself that way", Forneus said softly to her son, Baal, who was so focused on the yarn that he attempted to turn into some kind of garment. While not looking at her, the gray kitten still paid attention to her words, moving his ears in her direction to show that.
Baal took a quick liking for knitting and sewing, something that impressed his mother. And the interest in it started just as fast, she remembered fondly. The tall cat had awakened before his brother one day, and made his way to their mother, who sat outside their comfortable caravan while knitting. Forneus was sitting comfortable there, stitching the yarn to later turn it into a sweater for one of the children. His eyes followed the object, picking every small detail and curve she was doing with the needles.
He, however, still had a long way on it.
âI canât make this knotâ, he huffed sadly, admitting defeat when he put the yarn and needle on the ground. âYou make it seem so easyâŚâ, the young cat sighed and brought his legs close to his chest. Baal felt bad for letting his mom down. After being away for so long, he wanted to desperately make her proud.
But he heard a soft chuckle coming from his side and Baal looked at his mother.
âOh, sweetie, thereâs no need to feel frustrated over thisâ, she purred softly and rested her paw over his. âYou have a lot of time to learn how to do it. Take your timeâ.
He moved his ears a little bit and he blinked while staring at the ground. Baal was always used to memorizing and then getting things right. Unlike his master and his brother, he never had much patience for these things. He moved his tail back and forth and looked away.
âLet me help you, Baalâ, Forneus said while reaching for the needles that were in her sonâs paws. His soft dark eyes lighted up with the idea of his mother teaching him something that was so important to her. âFirst, you
âOh, sweetieâ, she meowed and brought him close to her chest. Even though he was taller than her, Forneusâ hugs always made him feel like a kitten all over again. âIâm already proud of youâ.
Baal hugged his mother back, letting her warmth embrace him. He then closed his eyes for a few minutes, feeling the summer sun on his back. Baal huffed and lowered his ears.
âStillâ, he murmured. âIâm going to finish this scarf for youâ, the black she-cat laughed warmly at her kittenâs stubbornness.
â
Aym was different from his brother, for he liked to be on his own, away from everyone. Not that he disliked the company of his family; he loved it, but he easily felt overwhelmed around others and would wander off for a while.
It didnât take him long to get to Pilgrimâs Passage in these walks and to take fishing as a hobby. His family needed to eat anyway, so he assumed it would be a useful hobby to have anyway.
Once a week, Aym would make his way there and sit on the small and old deck. Normally people wouldnât bother him much there either because he was fishing or because he seemed to never like to be bothered. He never minded the company of his mother, she seemed to always understand his boundaries well and would always have a big smile and a few encouraging words to say to Aym whenever he caught something. It was contagious.
âAymâ, she called from behind him, broughting him back from his thoughts. âDid ye catch something?â, she said softly, a small basket was being held by her big paws. The sweet smell of strawberries that was coming from the basket was enough to make his mouth water.
âNoâ, he simply murmured. He sounded disappointed at himself and Forneus was quick to pick the hints of it.
âWe could go back, my heartâ, Forneus meowed softly to him, moving her basket to be held by only her left arm. âAnd come back tomorrow in the morning when the fishes are fresherâ.
âNoâ, Aym inhaled and then exhaled heavily, feeling the pilgrimâs soft breeze enter and leave his lungs. âIâm going to wait longerâ, he said softly and flicked his ear.
The old maine coon looked around. It wasnât late, and the sun hadnât even started to set yet. She figured that keeping her child company wouldnât hurt her old body. And even if it did, she would never trade a change to stay by his side.
So she gave a tired sigh and made her way to the end of the dock and sat down next to Aym. The black cat could feel the soft and salty waves hit her feet and she found herself surprised that she wasnât as against the feeling of it as she thought she would. It was relaxing.
âYou should eat something thenâ, she said as she gently brought the basket close to him. The cat smiled softly at the other cat that slowly picked the basket, as if waiting for some kind of approval from his mother. Aym was careful to put it on his side

âWeaknessâ â
character: yandere! saionji ukyo [dr. stone]
warning: yandere, non consensual touching + (almost) kiss (not by ukyo) ; MINOR/AGELESS BLOGS DNI, PUT YOUR AGE IN BIO/PINNED POST TO INTERACT
words: 1k
a/n: this is a repost from my main blog (@/hikari-writes) so yes this writing is old + bad, i just moved them here w/o editing bc im lazy and wants to keep reminding myself how bad my writing used to be <3 this was set before Tsukasa empire was defeated !!
Ukyo stands in front of Hyoga, his face showing his nervousness and small beads of sweats could be seen trickling down his face.
âWhy did you call me out here?â
Ukyo asks, trying to keep his voice as calm as possible. He didnât want to let Hyoga knew heâs anxious that they are meeting alone and a bit farther than their headquarters. If, in the worst case scenario, he was attacked, itâd be hard to escape. Although he donât find any reason why Hyoga would attack him now.
ââŚNothing much.â
Hyoga replies curtly and as soon as he did, Ukyoâs ears caught a series of footsteps heading towards them.
The footsteps he knows all too well.
Even though his ears could catch on sounds from a pretty far distance, he knows that her way of walking has always been so insanely fast. So although he knew beforehand that sheâs coming, he still couldnât take any action before she reached their place.
âHey, Hyoga-sanâŚ.why did you call me out here?â
Y/N finally reaches their place, her face showing pure confusion as she saw Ukyo and Hyoga facing each other.
âY/NâŚ.â
Ukyo mumbles her name, his face turns pale all of the sudden. He doesnât seem to be getting any good vibes from this situation. Out of all people, Hyoga called out Y/N, Ukyoâs no. 1 weakness, his girlfriend, here at this quiet place. It seems like Hyoga planned it so that she came right when Ukyo and Hyogaâs facing each other.
âUkyo.â
Hyoga ignores Y/Nâs presence and continue facing Ukyo.
âIâd like for you to join force with me to end Tsukasaâs life.â
Ukyo and Y/N went dead silent at that one sentence. For the first time ever, Ukyo couldnât believe his own ears. Y/Nâs legs started trembling at Hyogaâs sudden proposal. Did those words just came out of him? Even though Tsukasa trusted him, he wishes to kill him?
Ukyo was quick to regain his composure. He then looks straight at Hyogaâs face.
âAnd if I donât want to?â
Hyoga stays silent at Ukyoâs reply. He then takes off his mask and in a blink of an eye, grabs Y/Nâs arm and pull her face closer to him.
Y/N could barely understand the situation that flashes right before her eyes and her reflexes are too slow compared to Hyoga for her to even turn her face or push Hyoga away. But she does understand one thing. The sight of Hyogaâs face nearing hers makes her eyes widen in horror. Just the thought of other people aside Ukyo having their lips on hers is just⌠unbearable.
Just as their lips about to touch, Y/N was snatched away from Hyogaâs grip and a knife was pointed at his throat.
âWell, wellâŚso even the peace-loving Ukyo can point a knife at someoneâs throat when his Y/N is about to fall on otherâs hands, huh?â
Ukyo hold Y/N tightly with one hand and his other hand kept the knife close to Hyogaâs throat. His face isnât showing his usual calm exterior. Instead, he was like a completely different person. His face turns gloomy and his eyes are looking at Hyoga dangerously.
âI thought you knew that you canât object an offer from me. Oh well, now the deal has been made. Thereâs no going back.â
Hyoga calmly said as he pulls up his mask back and walks away, leaving the two of them alone.
Y/N is still clinging to Ukyo tightly, her whole body trembling. Ukyo who finally regains back his composure, try to reassure Y/N by embracing her small body. Itâs almost as if heâs doing it to reassure himself. As if she could disappear at any moment and heâs clinging to her so desperately.
âUkyoâŚ.Iâm okay now.â
Y/N softly whispers at him. Ukyo reluctantly lets her go, and as soon as he did, her lips met his and they both melt into a sweet, loving kiss.
~*~
âI could barely understand what happened just nowâŚAre you going to be okay, Ukyo?â
While they walk back to the headquarters, holding hands, Y/N asks a question thatâs been on her mind since just now.
ââŚ.Iâll be fine. Completely fine. So donât worry. What you should be worrying about is yourself. His target is you if he found anything suspicious at me. And thatâs the only thing I donât want to happen.â
Ukyo strokes Y/Nâs head reassuringly and give a peck on her forehead.
âI really was afraid just now, you know? I wouldnât have known what to do if he had kissed me.â
As soon as she mentions that, Ukyoâs face turns gloomier and his glares turns so scary it could kill a newborn fawn.
âIf thatâs the case, Iâll just kiss you two, no, three times than he did.â
Y/Nâs ears turn red at his exclamation and she just smiles lovingly at him.
âI would love that.â
âFor tonight, Y/N, sleep with me. I donât want Hyoga to attack you while youâre alone. Stay by my side.â
Ukyo turns to her and said this seriously. Y/N quietly nod at him and give him a kiss on the cheek.
âEven if you donât ask for it, Iâll always stay by your side forever and ever.â
Ukyoâs heart warms up at her loving confession and squeezes her hand.
âItâs okayâŚâ He thought to himself. âTomorrowâs gonna be the day this empire meets its downfall. Senkuâs plan gonna work. Until then, I will protect Y/N even if I have to dirty my own hand. I may be a coward, but for her, I willâŚâ
âUkyo? Whatâs wrong?â
Y/N peers at Ukyo who was silent for a moment, worried of his sudden silence. He also seems to be glaringâŚwhich she just shrugs it off as her imagination.
Ukyo snaps out of his train of thoughts and stare a while at Y/Nâs face before softening his expression and genuinely smile at her.
âItâs nothing. I was just thinking of how much I love you .â
He says that so smoothly, making Y/N blush a bit.
âThatâs right⌠I love you so much, Iâm willing to change myself.â
Ukyo thought that as his smile turns into a cold one.

Day 5: Truth Potion/Serum/Spell
I had fun writing this! And yes, I'm posting ti so fast after the other one, bc its almost not the 5th for me anymore and I do want this out on the 5th like its supposed to be!
And I'm introducing a new au for this one! It's called An Original Mother, and I hope that yall enjoy!
Elijah sat down in the circle, masking her nervousness. A simple truth circle, to make sure they all knew what they would be getting into with this marriage. Because no, Niklaus didnât trust the mother of his child to have their familyâs best interests at heart, so who does he also involve in this? His big sister, of course!
And it wasnât as though Elijah wasnât attracted to them. Of course she was! Both her spouses-to-be were incredibly attractive, and she would probably have flirted with them at some point if this wasnât happening. Hell, sheâd even slept with Jacksonâs uncle, his cousin once removed! She was literally the mother of Jacksonâs second cousins! So it wasnât as though Hayley or Jackson werenât her type.
Itâs just that⌠Elijah preferred to be the one choosing when she was to marry people. Especially for political marriages. Sheâd done it before, to buy protection, she could do it again. She just preferred when she was the one deciding whether or not she was doing it, rather than her younger brother.
Niklaus himself, standing on the outside of the circle looking in, looked awful smug about this. And why would he not? His reunion with his son was going well, his sister was marrying the mother of his child and said womanâs fiance from birth for the safety of his child. All Niklausâ plans seemed to be coming to fruition, he had no real reason to not be smug about it.
Even though Elijah was going to make him pay for this. First, he daggered her, because she was a weakness Marcel could use against him. (And to be fair, he was probably right about that. Marcel was still her beloved nephew, and sheâd helped her brother raise him. If Niklaus had gone too far in it, Elijah wouldâve stepped in against him.)
Then, after sheâs woken up, he doesnât even know where she is, and she has to rescue herself! Although Davina was a lovely young witch, and Elijah looked forward to meeting again with her great-niece at a later date, Marcel and Niklaus notwithstanding.
And then, as soon as she arrives home, Niklaus doesnât even bother to check that sheâs alright. Sheâd been daggered for five months! He couldâve at least said hello, or offered her some blood! But no, instead he just tells her that sheâs to marry his one night stand and her wolfy fiance, to buy protection so said fianceâs pack can help them.
The old woman standing at the head of the circle starts to chant, pulling Elijahâs attention back to the present. She was still annoyed at Niklaus, and she definitely wished he wasnât here now, but there was nothing to do about it at the moment.
It wasnât entirely certain how they would do this, if anyone was willing to be honest about it. It was typically for werewolves, both inactivate and active, and used the magic of the curse to help them along. It had been done in the past with humans and witches, but a vampire had never married into a pack before.
This was going to be an all new experience, especially given that they didnât know how the vampire curse would affect the ritual. Maybe it would backfire entirely.
Elijah started a little, as a warm hand brushed hers. She looked up into the eyes of its owner, seeing Jacksonâs staring back into her. They seemed familiar to her, and suddenly, Elijah was sucked into the memories of her first marriage.
A ritual circle, with both Elijahâs mother and her brotherâs mentor Ayanna around the outside with the alpha of the wolf pack, chanting over them. Elijah had been filled with giddiness, glancing between Tatia and Garmr, none of them able to keep their excited grins hidden.
Sheâd gazed into Garmrâs eyes before theyâd gone in, as heâd reassured her that nothing bad would happen. As she looked into Jacksonâs eyes in the present, Elijah could almost hear her late husbandâs voice, promising that it would all be okay.

Hello, it's me again:3
Can you write some hcs for Luchino (hunter) x s/o? I know you mostly write about his surv identity, but his lizard form wasn't on the "characters that I will not write for" list, soooo...
Since Luchino likes summer and warmth, maybe he and s/o can spend some time outside together? Yk, sunbathing or reading together under the shade of a tree or something like that:D
Hope this request will be ok, but anyway, have a nice day!
nice to see you requesting again !! âş
also ofc! i'm not limited to only professor luchi - i hope you like this set of hcsđ¤˛đ
luchino diruse spending time outside with his s/o hcs đŚ
luchino is a big fan of outdoorsy activities!
as much as he likes the tranquility and dim lights of his laboratory, he still enjoys the fresh air and the hot weather outside
regularly sunbathes during the summer, but he does it far away from the manor - he would be deathly embarrassed if someone saw him
one time you stumbled upon him sunbathing, laying stomach down on a log and sleeping in the sun
...needless to say he was very embarrassed and shy when he woke up and saw you staring even though you just found it absolutely adorableđ
after his transformation, his clothes tore and it's literal hell trying to find fitting shirts and pants which often makes him feel insecure
and here's when violetta comes to the rescue >:)) !! she made him big, oversized hawaiian shirts out of old summer printed tablecloths for the warm weather and he loves them so much
knows a lot of nice lakes where you two can go for a swim when the heat gets unbearable
he's incredibly good at swimming! it seems weird considering he's a lizard after all, but he was a good swimmer as a human and his lizard abilities just improve his skills a bit more
likes diving and finding various shells, stones and other trinkets at the bottom of the lakes or the sea and brings them to you
if you mention to him that you feel too insecure to wear shorts, swimming suits/pants/two-pieces etc. he's going to do his best to reassure you - he doesn't understand how can you be so harsh on yourself and wants you to feel as pretty as he sees youđ
otherwise loves seeing you wearing summer clothes! always compliments your outfits and tells you how cute you look
big fan of exploring outside - whether it's for research or out of curiosity, it's always two times as fun when he's exploring with you
when you two get tired from all that walking and swimming he suggests curling up near a tree or something
it's a very funny scenario - he prefers the sunlight over anything while you love being in the shade, so he usually sits in the sun and his huge frame gives you enough shade to comfortably lay down between his legs without the sun roasting you
sometimes he just gets tired of the sun so he agrees to lay in the shade with you and read,,
loves when he lays his head in your lap while reading and you scratch his head or gently stroke the side of his face <33 (also he has a pair of reading glasses and it's so fucking funny since they look so small and weird on him)
he also managed to snatch some ice cream/shaved ice from the hunter's side of the manor (bonbon has an ice cream machine option!) and bring them during your walks together
due to his long tongue he eats his ice cream really fast and then snatches a bit of yours when you aren't looking đđ
you two often just give up on planning what outdoor activities you'll do and just lay in the warm grass together, if you know how to make flower crowns that's another plus bc he looks adorable with one !
your laying in the grass often just becomes napping together cuz he curls up to you and you two fall asleep while spooning
it's kinda hard for him to kiss you properly since he doesn't have lips so he uses his tongue to kind of?? gently (yet very quickly) touch your cheek or whatever with it like a chameleon (he does it and then when you flinch he acts like he didn't do anything smh wholesome bastard!!!!!!)
while walking he often picks you up and sits you on his shoulder (this is just me projecting on every buff idv character at this point)
his chest is like a soft block of ice it's the best thing to lay onđđhe's also built like an enormous inverted tortilla chip which makes things better
absolutely abuses the fact that his tail is prehensile and uses it to grab you and throw you right into his arms he's smooth as hell

Itâs going to rain.
You can smell it in the air and feel the damp chill against your skin, permeating through every layer of your clothing. The surrounding forest and all its occupants seem to be collectively holding their breath, waiting for the first drops to come. Even your footsteps, soft as they are against the loamy earth, sound much too loud in the hush thatâs fallen. Dark clouds gather overhead, looming like an omen, and you silently reach into your purse to check that the umbrella youâd stowed this morning is still there. Vaguely, you wonder if itâs big enough for two.
Around you, the trees slowly begin to dwindle, until thereâs only open sky above your head and a wide grassy expanse beneath your feet. A certain heaviness lingers in the air hereâa low thrum of energy, born from the ancient magic that sleeps in the gnarled roots of the tree that sits in the center of the clearing. You can feel it prickling along your skin, raising gooseflesh and igniting your veins, and the closer you get, the stronger the feeling becomes.
At the far end of the clearing, you spot a small crowd of people, all clad in black. Your best friendâand your entire reason for venturing out todayâstands amongst them in a tailored suit, his black tie snug at his throat and laid atop a charcoal gray shirt. Heâs chatting with his father and a few other family members, seemingly calm and collected, but you can tell from the sloppy knot of his tie and the way he fidgets with the hem of his jacket that he is anything but. After all your years of friendship, you can read Jung Hoseok like a book. His auburn hair is disheveled as if heâs been incessantly raking his fingers through it, and even at a distance, you can sense the turmoil in his aura, haloing him like the stormy clouds overhead.
Sensing your approach, Hoseokâs gaze flickers up to meet yours. He raises a hand in greeting and bids farewell to the people heâd been chatting with, picking his way over to you with a wan smile.
âHey. You made it.â
âI wouldnât miss this,â you reply, reaching out to take his hand. Itâs warm and strong as always, but you donât miss the slight tremor in his grip. âHow are you holding up?â
He shrugs half-heartedly, a sigh escaping his lips and dissipating into mist in the wintry air. âAs well as can be expected, I guess. It just⌠it all happened so fast.â
âI know,â you murmur, twining your fingers together in quiet reassurance. âIâm so sorry, Hobi.â
âThanks.â
Slowly, his gaze flits to the center of the clearing where the ancient tree sits, traversing from the leafy canopy all the way down to where the gnarled roots disappear into the dirt. In its shadow sits a polished wooden casket, and you squeeze Hoseokâs hand gently as he walks closer, his eyes beginning to glisten.
âI still canât believe heâs gone, you know,â he mumbles. âAll these years of war, of negotiations and peace talks, finally seeing the Accords pass and the company flourish⌠and now heâs gone. Cancer. Just like that.â
His voice cracks on the last sentence, and you clasp his hand a little tighter. You know as well as he does that a healthy werewolf can live for well over a century, if not for the human genetics that remain susceptible to human weaknesses and disease. True immortality afflicts only the faeries and the vampires of your worldâand even then, there are still ways that those folk can die.
âHe lived a long life,â you say after a momentâs hesitation, grasping onto any semblance of comfort you can offer. Together, you and Hoseok come to a stop in the shadow of the tree, peering at the closed casket where his grandfather lays. âAnd it was a good, just life. Not all of us can say that.â
A lone, wet droplet falls onto the polished mahogany, and Hoseok hastily wipes his eyes, tilting his head skyward. âNot long enough,â he whispers. âHe still had so much to do. I⌠I still have so much I wanted to doâto say. And now Iâll never be able to.â
You caress a thumb across his knuckles, the motion soft and tender. âI know. And Iâm sorry. I wish there was something I could do.â
Hoseok glances down at that, a glimmer of something manic and desperate swimming in his amber-flecked irises. âYou could,â he says, grabbing both your hands and clutching them to his chest like a lifeline. âYou could bring him back. You know how, donât you?â
You shake your head sadly, hating the way his frown deepens as you free yourself from his grasp. âThatâs forbidden magic, Hobi. Thatâs necromancy. You know I canât do that.â
Hoseokâs entire body sags, his shoulders slumping as he lets out a heavy sigh. Instinctively, you step forward to wrap him in a hug, and he loops his arms around your waist automatically, pulling you flush against him. âI know,â he mumbles into your hair. Then he huffs out a dry chuckle, humorless and deprecating. âFuck. Iâm a mess, huh?â
You donât answer. You donât need to. Instead, you hold him a little tighter, rubbing his back soothingly in long, slow motionsâthe same way his mother used to do during bedtime. His heart thuds erratically in his chest, fast and frenzied like a caged bird, but lulls as you continue your ministrations, settling into an even rhythm once more.
âThank you,â he murmurs after a few moments, his warm breath caressing your cheek. âFor coming today. I couldnât have done this without you.â
âYou can do anything, Hobi,â you reassure, running a thumb along the sharp line of his jaw when he raises his head to look at you. âWith or without me. But⌠youâre welcome, all the same.â
Your presence at this funeral is unusual, and both you and Hoseok know it. Werewolf packs tend to keep their rites and ceremonies private, and the Gwangju pack is no different. Led by Hoseokâs father, and his late grandfather before him, the werewolves of the city have rapidly risen to prominence and power, aided in large part by the founding of JungTech. The company, started by Hoseokâs grandfather, began as a small operation in a battered old warehouse, but quickly grew to become one of Gwangjuâs biggest corporations after the signing of the Accords twenty years ago. The peace treaty marked the start of a tenuous coexistence between humankind and Shadowfolk, and, together with your fellow witchesâalong with the werewolves, vampires, and the few fair folk who decided to leave their homes deep in the forestsâyou migrated into cities all over the country to forge new lives.
Itâs proven easier for some. While the wolves of the city have found toleranceâacceptance, evenâyou have not fared quite as well. Humans, you have found, tend to fear the ancient magic that runs through your veins. Though nothing youâve faced comes remotely close to what your ancestors faced in centuries past, you remain wary of those who take a little too much interest in your abilities.
Youâre a bit paranoid, your familiar, Bast, has remarked on more than one occasion. But itâs justified, so I suppose itâs all right.
As if sensing that your thoughts have turned to him, Bast stirs in the back of your mind. You feel him yawn and stretch lazily before thereâs a tug on the soles of your feet, as if the force of gravity has suddenly, inexplicably doubled. Then heâs materializingâmorphing out of the spot where your shadow would be if the sun were shining, taking the form of an inky black cat with sharp, golden eyes. Hoseok perks up when Bast loops between his ankles, and immediately squats down to scratch behind his ears, a small smile settling across his face as a low, content purr rumbles up from beneath his fingertips. From elsewhere in the clearing, a single howl rises up into the air, forlorn and wavering.
Itâs starting, Bast says in your head. At the same time, Hoseok straightens to his full height, fiddling with the hem of his black jacket and looking over at you tentatively.
âSounds like theyâre getting started,â he says.
You nod. âI should go.â
Hoseok opens his mouth as if to protestâas if to say no, stayâbut you know better and cut him off with a single raised finger.
âIâll go,â you murmur. âThis is a private rite, and I donât want to break centuries of tradition by overstaying my welcome. Go join your pack, Hobi.â
âWill I see you later?â
âWithout a doubt.â
Your parting gesture is to reach out and grab his hand, tucking a little drawstring bag into his palm and closing his fingers over it. âValerian root and chamomile,â you tell him gently, taking in his rumpled collar and the dark bags beneath his eyes. âMake some tea tonight. Itâll help.â
Hoseok swallows and nods, his features softening as he gazes down at his hand cupped in your smaller ones. He looks like he wants to say something, but another howl interrupts, disrupting whatever thoughts he may have had. Instead, he nods again, murmuring a soft goodbye before turning on his heel to join the rest of the pack gathering around the raised casket. You turn as well, leaving behind the ancient clearing with Bast trotting by your side.
Up above, the heavens finally open, drenching the dirt path beneath your feet with rain. And behind you, the single howl is joined by dozens more, echoing mournfully up into the weeping sky.
///
Youâre in the middle of straightening out a display of dittany when the kettle begins to boil, emitting three short, shrill whistles accompanied by a long stream of whirling steam. When silence falls over the shop once more, you wander over to where the kettle sitsâatop a small wooden end table next to an old wardrobe. Itâs an old relic thatâs been passed down through generations of witches in your family, wrought out of silvery metal and suspended in an iron frame above a single lit candle. The flame is glowing pink, flickering in a nonexistent gust of wind, and you smile. Quietly, you grab two teacups from a nearby shelf.
Not two seconds later, the door of the old wardrobe creaks open, revealing the familiar face of Kim Seokjin behind it. A fellow witch and a good friend of yours, Jin has made a name for himself as a baker, running a cafĂŠ in Seoul that offers all sorts of confectionsâboth with magical properties and without. His hair is dyed a muted dusty roseâa stark contrast to the casual black hoodie and jeans heâs wearingâand you reach out to push a stray lock back from his forehead in lieu of a greeting.
âYour hairâs pink again,â you remark. âI like it.â
Jin grins, his plush lips pulling back to reveal perfect teeth. âThanks.â Carefully, he steps out of the wardrobe and shuts the door behind him. A beat of silence passes, and you take the opportunity to select a canister of tea leaves. You donât miss the flicker of solemnity that settles into Jinâs features, though, listening as he clears his throat before voicing the question that is undoubtedly the reason behind his unexpected visit.
âSo. Howâs Hoseok holding up?â
Jin has never been one to mince his words. You suppose you appreciate that about him.
Quietly, you lift the kettle out of its stand and beckon for him to join you at the little wooden table at the front of your shop. Itâs tucked neatly into the nook carved out by one of the two bay windows on either side of the front door, flanked by two well-worn, mismatched chairs. Atop it sits a pile of booksâeverything from ancient remedies to common household spells.
One book in particular always sits openâa detailed list of all the herbs and plants you carry in your shop, along with the various concoctions youâve created with them. Hellebore, the spine of the book reads, and itâs the same word that graces your storefront in flowing, golden text. An apothecary of sorts, you spend your days dealing out potions and remedies to those in need, both human and Shadowfolk. You do your best to help, for all the times modern medicine has come up short and left someone wanting.
âHonestly? I donât think heâs been sleeping.â You set the teacups down onto the table and fill them both before handing one over to Jin. âI saw him this morning, at the funeral. He looked exhausted.â
Jinâs brows disappear behind his pink hair. âYou went to the funeral?â
âI didnât stay,â you clarify, taking a sip of your tea. âJust wanted to drop by, say hello, and pay my respects.â
âWerewolves are a private bunch,â Jin remarks. âIâm surprised.â
You shrug. âHoseok wanted me to be there. So I went.â
âI see.â He doesnât say anything further, and neither do you, lapsing instead into a comfortable silence thatâs broken only by the occasional sip of tea and the clinking of china. Your gaze wanders, drifting over to the front door of your shop, painted a cheerful green and set with a flowery stained glass window that throws kaleidoscopic rainbows across the cream walls and dark wooden floor. Sunlight streams through the wide bay windows, illuminating the interior in warm, hazy gold. On the other side of the room, Bast is curled up, fast asleep on his favorite plush bench beside the glass door that leads to the greenhouse, perfectly haloed by the sun.
âMust be nice being able to fall asleep anywhere,â you mutter, almost to yourself.
Jin hears you anyway, a chuckle escaping his lips. âYou sound jealous.â
âMaybe I am,â you reply, laughing with him. âSpeaking of which, whereâs Adam? Did he stay home?â
Jin nods, jabbing his thumb in the direction of the wardrobe. âYeah, heâs keeping an eye on the cafĂŠ. Told me to say hi to you for him, though.â
You giggle at the thought of Jinâs familiar, a long-haired sheepdog with a stubborn streak the size of the Nile and blatant disdain for following ordersâespecially those that come from Jin himself. âKeeping watch, or trashing the place?â you tease.
âWith my luck, probably both,â Jin admits with a sigh. âI should probably get back there soon. He ate all the egg tarts last time.â
âBring him with you next time,â you advise. âBast will keep him entertained.â
He grins. âI donât doubt it.â
Finishing off the last of his tea, he stands up and taps the rim of his cup, murmuring a soft cleaning spell under his breath. You smile gratefully as he replaces it back onto the shelf with the others, and stand to walk him back over to the wardrobe. Opening up the creaky door, you watch him clamber inside, standing amongst the hanging coats and the single pair of shoes on the bottom shelf.
âSee you later,â you murmur. âGive Adam my best.â
Jin nods. âSee you.â
He shuts the door, and you watch the flame of the candle once again turn a soft, roseate pink. It flickers briefly, dancing in an invisible breeze, before reverting back to the color of regular fire, signaling Jinâs departure. Quietly, you clean your own teacup and return it to the shelf.
The remainder of the afternoon passes with few customers, so you opt to close down early and head to your apartment, located up a short flight of stairs on the second floor of the shop. Youâre rifling through the refrigerator for dinner ingredients and humming softly under your breath when your phone suddenly rings, Hoseokâs name lighting up the screen in bright white text. âHey, Hobi,â you say, swiping across the glass to answer. âWhatâs up?â
On the other end of the line, Hoseok exhales shakily. âCan you come over?â
You blink, glancing at the darkening sky outside. âNow?â
âYeah. Fuck, sorry. I know itâs late, but I really⌠I really need to talk to someone. Iââ His voice cracks, and your heart sinks. âI need you.â
âSay no more.â Straightening up, you shut the refrigerator door and tug off your apron. âIâll be there in half an hour. Have you eaten yet?â
Hoseok sighs. âNo.â
âIâll bring takeout,â you decide, already glancing around for your purse. âSee you soon, okay?â
Bidding him farewell, you don your coat and head out the door, locking up behind you. Hoseok lives downtown in a sleek, modern penthouse thatâs normally a twenty-minute walk away from Hellebore, but after stopping by the restaurant on the corner for food, you opt to catch the bus instead. Fifteen minutes after you hang up the phone, you are rapping the bronze knocker on Hoseokâs front door, a paper bag and a bottle of wine in hand.
Almost instantly, the door is flung open. Hoseok stands in the threshold as if heâs been waiting there, his auburn hair wild and his eyes even wilder. His aura is turbulent, and when he speaks, his voice is hoarse. âHey.â
âHey.â You raise the bag. âI brought dinner.â
âYouâre the best,â he sighs, stepping aside to let you in.
Hoseokâs apartment toes the line between modern and cozy in a way that only Hoseokâs apartment couldâwith lush green plants and plushy, earth-toned furniture to offset the cold impersonality of the floor-to-ceiling windows and the stainless steel kitchen. Flicking on the kitchen light, you set the food down on the granite countertop and grab two wine glasses out of the cabinet. Hoseok sidles over as you pour a generous helping into each glass, rifling through the silverware drawer for utensils.
âSmells good,â he murmurs, popping a box open. âIâm starving. Thanks for bringing dinner.â
You brush off his gratitude and hand him a glass, raising yours so you can clink it gently against his. Quietly, the two of you fall into a comfortable routine, with Hoseok grabbing the food and you grabbing the bottle of wine to bring into the living room. You help him clear off the coffee table and arrange the food, then settle onto the couch beside him, sipping your drink in silence and patiently waiting for him to gather his thoughts. Years of friendship have taught you that heâll talk when heâs ready, and youâre content to wait as long as he needs.
Sighing, Hoseok tips the rest of his wine back into his mouth before setting the empty glass down with a soft plink. âSo,â he begins, not quite looking you in the eye. âMy dad and I had lunch today.â
You stay quiet, waiting for him to continue. He takes several more seconds to muster up the words, and when he finally finds them, theyâre exhaled in a tumbling rush. âHe told me that heâs pleased with how Iâm running JungTech. Itâs been over a year, and things are going well⌠so he wants to expedite my takeover of the pack. In two months, he wants me to take over as the alpha. AndâŚâ He swallows. âHe wants me to settle down.â
Perturbed, you blink. âWhat?â
Hoseok finally looks at you, his expression frighteningly devoid of emotion. âHe wants me to get married, {Name}.â
Comprehension doesnât settle in right away. But when it does, your jaw drops to the floor, landing somewhere alongside the ornamental persian carpet and a stray sock that has no doubt jumped ship from Hoseokâs laundry.
âW-what?â you manage after a few long seconds of gaping at him. âWhy? Why now? Thatâs so⌠thatâs completely out of the blue.â
Hoseok shakes his head, a few shaggy strands of auburn hair falling across his forehead and into his eyes. âItâs not, actually. Heâs been talking about it for a long timeâtrying to arrange something with one of the other pack families. Itâs tradition, you know? Mating within the pack, keeping the bloodlines pure through marriage. The difference is that Pops always talked him out of it. Always said I was too young, that there was no rush, that I should wait for someone I love, my true mate...â He sighs, heavily. âBut heâs gone now. And Dadâs decided that heâs done waiting.â
You shouldnât ask. You shouldnât, because you know itâll hurt, but the question comes regardlessâleaving your lips in a near whisper. âWho?â
Hoseok takes a deep breath, his shoulders slumping as he exhales. âDo you remember Im Nayeon?â
You do. Youâve known Nayeon almost as long as youâve known Hoseokâthe three of you having attended the same schools starting from elementary all the way up until Hoseok left to attend university in Seoul. Admittedly, you were never closeâand if you were completely honest, you always found her to be a bit disingenuous for your tastes. Nevertheless, you often found yourself at the same eventsâparties and gatherings you attended at Hoseokâs request, and that she was privy to due to her familyâs high-ranking status within the Gwangju pack.
âI remember,â you tell him, your bottom lip finding its way between your teeth. âDoes⌠does she know yet? Have you met up with her?â
Hoseok nods. âShe was there this morning, at the funeral. We talked a little bit and got coffee after, but⌠this is all happening so fast.â Slowly, he tilts his head back to stare at the ceiling, a sigh escaping his parted lips. âBut thereâs nothing I can do, right? Itâs enough that Dadâs somehow talked Mom into the whole thing, but now heâs gotten the Council on board too. Did you know that Nayeon has an uncle on the Council? Itâs insane, right?â
âInsane,â you agree in a whisper, doing your best to ignore the way your heart is splintering at the edges.
âYou know, I always thought my Dad pressuring me was bad.â Hoseok buries his face in his hands, peering at you from between his splayed fingers when you hum in acknowledgment. âBut this? The entire Council on my back? This is way worse.â
âIâm sorry.â You donât know what else there is to say. Your ribcage feels like itâs been split open and filled with burning coals, weighing hot and heavy on your insides.
Hoseok has dated in the past, of course. You both haveâchasing that elusive, fluttery feeling called love and never quite being able to catch it and hold on. Hoseokâs last relationship fizzled long before he graduated from university, having lasted only about six months. You distinctly remember meeting the girl during one of your frequent visits to Seoul, at a small party hosted by Hoseok and his friends. By your next visit, however, things had already ended. He never really told you why the breakup occurred eitherâonly that the relationship never would have lasted in the long run.
Perhaps foolishly, you chose not to pry.
âIs there anything I can do?â you ask softly. Reaching out, you take ahold of his hand and tug it into your lap, threading your fingers into the gaps between his. The gesture is familiar and comforting, like cocoa in front of a lit fireplace, and you canât even begin to fathom the idea of another person sitting here and holding his hand in your stead.
âJust talk to me,â Hoseok entreaties, squeezing your fingers. âDistract me. Whatâs going on with you?â
You hum, swallowing down the lump in your throat and letting your head fall onto his shoulder as you pick through the events of the past week for the most interesting tidbits. âBast has been bringing me dead rats lately,â you finally say, nose scrunching at the memory. âYou should see the size of themâtheyâre almost bigger than he is. And they smell like the sewers, because Iâm ninety-nine percent sure thatâs where heâs getting them from. Itâs horrid.â
Hoseok huffs out a stilted laugh. âSewer rats? Gross.â
âItâs not all bad, to be honest,â you tell him, nestling a little closer to the warmth of his body. Hoseok keeps his apartment chillier than youâre accustomed to, and youâre beyond grateful for the furnace-like heat he gives off naturally. âThe bones are pretty useful. The tails too, provided you donât tell people what they actually are.â
His laugh is much more genuine this time. âTricky little minx,â he says, amusement lacing his tone. âIâve always liked that about you.â
You ignore the uptick in your heart rate at his approval, grateful that he canât see your face as a pulse of heat flushes your cheeks. Instead, you burrow into the crook of his neck, breathing in his scent. Hoseok smells like the forestâfresh and woodsy, with a slight floral undercurrent from his fabric softener. It smells like home, and you smile when his arm comes up to wrap around your shoulders.
âJin came by today,â you murmur.
âYeah?â The monosyllabic response rumbles through his chest.
âYeah. He asked about you, too. You should probably text him later.â
Hoseok hums a confirmation, and, satisfied, you cuddle a little closer to him. You pull at the afghan he keeps laid over the back of the couch, laying it comfortably over your lap as he rests his head gently atop yours, his ear pressed to your crown. Your eyes fall shut as you listen to the rhythmic thud of his pulseâsolid and steady, backed by the soft hum of the refrigerator and distant traffic on the street far below.
Itâs comfortable, sitting with him like this. Comfortable, stroking his arm with your fingertips, in time with the drumbeat of his heart. Ever so gradually, Hoseokâs breathing evens out, and you briefly think that you could stay like thisâencapsulated in this delicate, iridescent bubble of contentmentâfor the rest of your life.
You know the thing about bubbles, though? Bast remarks dryly in your head. They burst.
I know, you sigh.
I know.
///
Thereâs something soothing about taking inventoryâsomething calming in the repetition of walking down the aisles of Hellebore and restocking the shelves one by one. Youâd woken this morning to an apologetic Hoseok making pancakes in the kitchen, his residual heat and woodsy scent lingering on the blanket tucked around your body. After a harried breakfast and a promise to text you later, Hoseok rushed off to the office.
You, in turn, returned to your shop, where you grabbed every ounce of cleaning supplies you possess and scrubbed the place from top to bottom, foregoing all of your usual dishwashing charms and dust-clearing jinxes. The physical labor is a welcome distraction from the events and revelations of last night, and youâve thrown yourself wholeheartedly into all the chores you need to complete.
âAlmost out of rosehip oil,â you mutter, eyeing the half-empty vial and making a note to extract more from one of several plants in your greenhouse. âLow on valerian too, hmmâŚâ
The bell over the front door jingles merrily, diverting your attention away from your task. â{Name}?â a voice calls softly. A moment later, a familiar head of coppery red hair pops around the edge of the shelves, choppy bangs framing a soft, warm face. âHey, there you are. You busy?â
You shake your head and shut your inventory book, setting it down on the nearest shelf. âNot terribly, no. What brings you here today, Lisa?â
Lisaâs answering smile is sheepish. âGot something to return,â she says, holding up a little glass jar full of lavender colored pills that you immediately recognize. âIâm guessing youâve already heard the news. Looks like I wonât be needing these anymore, right?â
Your laugh sounds brittle, even to your own ears. âRight. Yeah. Not anymore.â
For just over ten years, Lisa has been the wolf assigned to help Hoseok through his heat. Between his familyâs status and his longtime designation as the next alpha of the Gwangju pack, itâs imperative for Hoseok to avoid anything that might be perceived as scandalous. Torrid sex stories splashed across tabloid covers is the last thing a man like Hoseok needs, and thatâs where Lisa comes in. Once a year, for three days, she goes to him, and no one is none the wiser. Her job is one that calls for the utmost discretion, and as the daughter of a high-ranking Council official, no one understood that better than she did. Youâd only found out because of your role as one of the few witches in the country who makes and stocks the proper contraceptives for such wolvesâthe dosage much stronger than the human equivalent.
And when Lisa had first approached you to purchase the pills, youâd dropped two jars and nearly set fire to a third. Your stomach had fallen to somewhere around your toes, right alongside the shattered glass and little lavender tablets.
Youâd chalked the accident up to surprise. Hoseok hadnât mentioned anything to you, after all, and youâd known very little about the intricacies of werewolf heats back then, having just opened your shop at age eighteen. But surprise doesnât explain the snaking jealousy that bubbles up in your tummy every time Lisa comes in to restock her supply of pills, nor does it explain the overwhelming sense of relief you feel now as she presses the unopened jar into your hands.
âI still canât believe heâs going to be the most powerful man in Gwangju soon.â Lisa steps back, tucking her hair behind her ear and letting out a soft sigh. âAnd now heâs engaged, too. Itâs pretty crazy, huh?â
âCrazy,â you agree tonelessly, turning to replace the jar onto the appropriate shelf.
Lisa, however, is nothing if not perceptive. A gentle hand lands on your shoulder, stopping you in your tracks. âHey,â she begins, soft and slow. âYou know you can talk to me, right? Are youâ?â
But the sound of the bell drowns out the rest of her question, metallic and bright in the quiet of your shop. âHello? Anyone home?â a cheery voice asks.
âBe right there,â you say immediately, shrugging off Lisaâs hand and stepping out from amongst the shelves. Thereâs a young woman standing at the checkout counter, rifling through the collection of seeds on display, and you cringe as she replaces a few packets in the wrong spots. âHow can I help you?â
At the sound of your voice, the woman turns gracefully on her heel, her expression a perfectly crafted amalgamation of surprise and delight. â{Name}!â she exclaims, stepping forward with an outstretched arm. âLong time no see!â
âN-Nayeon,â you stammer, the shock of seeing her face freezing you in place. âWhat⌠what brings you here?â
The dark-haired woman steps forward to pull you into a hug, enveloping you in her fruity perfume. âWould you believe me if I said I wanted to catch up with an old friend?â she asks playfully.
We were never friends, you want to say. In your head, Bast lets out a derisive snort of agreement. Lisa, you notice, has conveniently melted away somewhere amidst the organized chaos of your shop, disappearing into the myriad shelves and knickknacks.
âPlus, I really wanted to look at some flowers,â Nayeon continues, betraying her true purpose at last. âYouâve heard, havenât you? About my engagement? Iâm sure HoseokâI mean, my fiancĂŠâhas mentioned it to you, of all people. You are his best friend, after all.â
The inside of the shop is beginning to feel stifling. Perspiration trickles down your neck and you tug at your collar, loosening the material from where itâs plastered against your skin. âSure,â you manage, once you feel like you can breathe again. âRight. Sure. The flowers are right this way, if you want to follow me.â
Iâd forgotten how much I donât like her, your familiar remarks dryly in your head.
Shut up, Bast.
Mercifully, he does. Thereâs a tug on your feet, and you glance down just in time to see him morph out of the shadow you cast against the sun-drenched floor. Ghostly and amorphous at first, he quickly solidifies into the feline figure youâve grown accustomed to, and slinks protectively around your ankles before darting off to perch in the cushioned bay window seat.
Conveniently, thatâs also where the flower display is. Colorful blooms and trailing leaves adorn the wooden shelves and tables in this particular corner of the shop, and you force yourself to shift back into professional mode as you come to a stop in front of an assortment of honeysuckle. âSo, what kind of flowers are you looking for?â you ask, brushing your fingers along the pale yellow petals.
Nayeon hums thoughtfully and picks up a potted rosebush, examining it from all angles. âRoses, maybe. Are roses too clichĂŠd now?â She brings the crimson buds closer and inhales, eyes fluttering shut. âNo matter. Iâve always liked them.â
âTheyâre beautiful,â you agree, turning your attention to the selection of roses lining the topmost shelf. âDo you have a color preferenâ?â
âOr maybe these would be better,â Nayeon interrupts, plucking up a pale pink calla lily from the bouquet you keep in a table display. âOr that oneâwhat is it?â
You follow the trajectory of her gaze to a bunch of little white flowers with golden centers, stark against the dark dirt and surrounding green foliage. âThat would be bloodroot,â you answer. âOne of my personal favoritesâitâs both ornamental and medicinal. It would look lovely in a bouquet.â
Nayeon pulls a face and shakes her head. âNo, noâI donât want anything with such a horrible name. What about these?â she asks, reaching up to take a closer look at a larger bloom. âPeonies, right?â
By the time Nayeon makes it back to the checkout counter with a few sample rose cuttings in hand, youâre fairly certain that several eternities have passed. âIs there anything else you need?â you ask as you ring her up and wrap the flowers neatly in paper.
âA discount for an old friend?â she queries, shooting you a playful wink. When you donât answer right away, she giggles. âIâm kidding! Obviously, Iâll pay. Itâs not like Iâm pressed for moneyâI mean, youâve seen who my fiancĂŠ is, right? Now gosh, where did I put my wallet?â
Your cheeks are beginning to feel far too hot. Nayeon is still rummaging in her purse, and you quickly duck beneath the counter under the pretense of looking for some ribbon to tie off the bouquet. Fanning your face, you take a few deep breaths, listening as she continues chattering away.
âWeâre having dinner tonight, actually, Hoseok and I. Itâll be our second real date, and⌠wait!â She gasps, and you peer up just in time to see her slap a hand over her perfectly lacquered mouth. âYou should come! Bring someone, if you canâitâll be like a double date!â
If you can? Bast snipes. Curse her.
You sigh inwardly and straighten back up, ribbon in hand. Shut up, Bast.
If you wonât, I will.
Youâll do no such thing.
Mustering up your best, most earnest smile, you hand over the wrapped flowers along with her change. âThat sounds like fun,â you tell her, ignoring the way your insides lurch at the lie. âWhen and where?â
Nayeon beams and rattles off the address of an unfamiliar restaurant. âDonât be late!â she calls as she heads for the door. The bell jangles cheerily as she departs, and as soon as the door shuts behind her, Lisa pokes her head around a nearby bookshelf.
âFinally,â she sighs, walking over to join you. âI thought sheâd never leave.â
Ordinarily, you wouldnât dare speak ill of a customer, but youâre willing to make an exception today. âYou and me both,â you reply, watching as Bast slinks over like a shadow and hops onto the counter beside you. He nuzzles his face into the crook of your elbow in silent solidarity, and you mindlessly begin scratching behind his ears as Lisa speaks again.
âAre you really going to go to that dinner tonight?â
You meet her gaze, shrugging. âI already said I would. Do I really have a choice?â
There isnât much else to say, and both you and she know it. Pushing off from where sheâs leaning against the countertop, Lisa flips her coppery hair over her shoulder and shoots you a look, brown eyes full of sympathy. âGood luck,â she says sincerely. You get the feeling that she wants to say something else, but decides against it at the last minute. Instead, she bids you goodbye and walks out with a wave and another chime of the bell. Silence settles over the shop once more, and you allow yourself a few moments to breatheâslow and deep, in and outâbefore picking up your phone and opening up the most recent text messages. It doesnât take long to find the name youâre looking for, but you still pause, thumbs hovering over the keyboard, before you begin to type.
[4:21pm] You: how would you like to join me for a very awkward dinner date?
[4:21pm] Jin: consider me intrigued.
///
You and Jin arrive at the restaurant first. Itâs an ornate, palatial place with tuxedoed waitstaff and a coat room, and despite giving the name âJungâ at the door, youâre certain that Hoseok played no part in the venue selection. The host ushers you to a booth tucked in the back, the cushioned seats a velvety burgundy and a chandelier glittering overhead, throwing refracted, iridescent light across the veined marble table. All of a sudden, the simple black dress youâre wearing feels painfully inadequate. Glancing down at your feet, you wonder if you should have worn heels instead.
Beside you, Jin cuts a striking figure in a creamy silk shirt with ribbons that tie into a bow at his throat, the material loose and flowy up until where it tucks into fitted black slacks. His pink hair complements the elegant outfit perfectly, parted and swept off his forehead to reveal his dark brows.
As if reading your mind, he lays a gentle hand on your shoulder. âYou look beautiful,â he says, before gesturing at the booth. âNow, do you want the inside or outside? Think youâll need to make a quick getaway at some point?â
âProbably,â you sigh. Jin nods and sits down first, and you watch him slide across the seat cushion before settling in beside him. âI still canât believe you volunteered to be here,â you murmur, plucking up one of the folded cloth napkins and fiddling with the crisp white edges. âYouâre a saint, I swear.â
Jin chuckles and plucks the napkin from your clasped hands, laying it across your lap instead. âNot a saint,â he says, matching your soft tone. âJust someone who cares about you.â
Your cheeks warm at his sudden proximity. âThank you,â you tell him, for what must be the umpteenth time. âI canât even imagine what Iâd do without you.â
âGood thing you donât have to, then,â he replies with a grin. âNow, chin up. They just walked in.â
You canât help the groan that escapes you. âIs it too late to run?â
âAfraid so,â he answers honestly.
And then Nayeon is slipping into the cushioned seat opposite you, syrupy smile in place on her berry lacquered lips. âHi!â she chirps, laying a hand on Hoseokâs arm as he sits down beside her. âSorry weâre late. We, umâŚâ She pauses and shoots Hoseok a conspiratorial look, giggling. â... lost track of the time.â
Your magic flares, hot and bright in your veins, and you know Jin feels it too when he lays a cautionary hand on your knee beneath the table. âWe werenât waiting long,â he says, offering the two a genial smile. Heâs perfectly polite as he and Nayeon exchange quick introductions, and gestures toward the assortment of menus on the table as soon as everyone has settled down. âWhy donât we order some wine to start?â
âOh, thatâs a splendid idea! Isnât that a splendid idea, Hoseok?â Nayeon turns to the auburn-haired man beside her, and you do the same, gaze landing on Hoseok for the first time tonight. Heâs in an all black ensemble, sharp jacket layered over a silky black shirt, the top buttons loosened to bare a tantalizing sliver of golden skin. His auburn hair is parted, a stray lock falling across his forehead, and you shiver when you realize heâs staring right back at you with dark, unreadable eyes.
At the sound of Nayeonâs voice, Hoseok seems to snap out of his trance, his expression smoothing out as he plasters on a smile. âTake a look at the menu,â he says, picking up the leather-bound book and offering it to her. âDinnerâs on me.â
You blink. âWe canât let you do that, Hobi.â
âLet me pick up at least part of the tab,â Jin adds, already reaching for his wallet. âIâm no corporate bigshot, but I do well enough for myself.â
âNo need to be modest,â you chime in, nudging him playfully. âWerenât you just telling me about your new restaurant opening on the way over? Next week, right?â
Jinâs ears redden as all the attention is turned onto him. âNext week, yeah.â
âThatâs amazing!â Nayeon chirps, pressing closer to Hoseok. âWeâll have to check it out sometime. Maybe a date night, right, darling?â
Hoseok busies himself with rearranging his cutlery, swapping the knife and fork around. âRightâsure. If we ever make it up to Seoul, weâll, uh⌠weâll definitely stop by. Congratulations, man.â
The conversation continues. A server stops by to take your wine order, and Jin decides on a moderately priced bottle of cabernet sauvignon. Glasses are brought over, and wine is poured. Hoseok finishes his quickly and pours himself another, and though his wolf metabolism prevents him from getting drunk off of regular wine, you know that heâs a bit of a lightweight and tends to avoid drinking heavily no matter what the beverage. Heâs drinking with a purpose tonight, and youâre beyond grateful when Jin pipes up with yet another story when the conversation lulls.
âAnd then I found out that the oven was on the whole time! Adam would probably let the entire apartment go up in flames just to spite meâI should watch my back.â
âOr, you know, just watch the oven more closely,â you tease. âIâve seen your place, Jinâitâs a complete fire hazard. Itâs a wonder it hasnât burned to the ground already.â
Jin sniffs. âYouâre exaggerating. Stop making me look bad.â
âYou make yourself look bad,â you retort, laughing when his lower lip juts out into a pout.
Across the table, Hoseok clears his throat. âSpeaking of fire hazardsâdid I ever tell you about the time {Name} set me on fire?â
âI did no such thing!â you protest, reaching over to slap his arm. âI mean, okay, maybe a little bit, but that was one time! And you were barely singed!â
Hoseok snorts out a laugh. âBarely singed? I couldnât sit properly for a week.â
âOh please, thatâs a lie and you know it!â
Nayeon interrupts your conversation with a loud huff, setting her wineglass down with enough force to thud against the veined marble tabletop. âDo one of you maybe want to fill us in on the joke here?â
Abashed, you glance back at Hoseok, watching as his smile slowly fades back into the careful, neutral expression heâs worn all evening. âSorry,â you murmur. âItâs an old story from when we were kidsâwhen we first met, actually. We were seven years old, and it was the second day of school. I didnât have a very good handle on my magic yet, and accidentally set Hoseokâs tail on fire during recess.â
âI preferred to run around in my wolf form back then,â Hoseok further elaborates. âThere was a big field out behind the schoolâremember that, {Name}?â
You nod. âOf course. It went right up to the very edge of the woods. And if you kept going and went far enough, you reached the old wooden bridge.â
Hoseok is smiling again, soft and fond. âThat thing was a death trap.â
âBut the teachers could never keep us away,â you say, grinning at him.
âAll right,â Nayeon interrupts again, sniffing disdainfully. âEnough about the old daysâI think itâs time to talk about the present. And more importantly, the future.â She sighs happily and props her chin up in her palm, ensuring that the delicate golden band on her ring finger is on full display, the metal glimmering in the warm light. âYouâre both invited to the wedding, of course. And I never did properly thank you for the flowers today, {Name}!â
Her words seem to come as a surprise to Hoseok, who straightens up in his seat. âFlowers? You visited Hellebore today?â
âOf course I did!â Nayeon hides a giggle behind a manicured hand. âI wouldnât even think of trusting anyone else with my bouquet.â
Hoseokâs gaze skitters over to you, awash with concern and tinged with apology, but you ignore him in favor of forcing your expression into something thatâs meant to be a smile. Yet no matter how much you strain your cheeks and stretch your lips, it feelsâand looks, youâre sureâfar more like a grimace.
âIâm happy to do it,â you lie, your teeth gritted and tight. âI donât mind it one bit.â
///
âSo. That was just as awkward as promised.â
You and Jin are walking back to Hellebore, leaving behind the bustling downtown area for the darker, quieter streets of your neighborhood. Your companionâs hair is tinged orange in the glow from the streetlamps, and you can only chuckle humorlessly when he turns to you and raises his eyebrows.
âCanât say I didnât warn you.â
âI was duly warned,â Jin agrees.
A car drives by, the headlights throwing Jinâs profile into stark relief. His expression is solemn but he doesnât say anything else and neither do you. The remainder of the walk passes in silence, broken only by the occasional strain of conversation from passersby and the low drone of late night traffic. You reach Hellebore with no incidents, and you muffle a yawn as Jin steps into the wardrobe to go back to Seoul.
Just before he shuts the door behind him, he shoots you a meaningful glance over his shoulder. âYou should tell him how you feel, you know. He deserves to know. And you⌠you deserve to be happy.â
He doesnât elaborate, and you donât need him to. Long after heâs gone, his remark echoes in your head, and no matter what, you simply cannot seem to shake it.
///
Itâs been years since youâve last gone to the old bridge, but after last nightâs conversation you find yourself pulled back, lured by the promise of memories of a kinder time. The forest beyond the field hasnât changed much since your school days, and neither, you realize, has the bridge itself. It still stands tall, proudly spanning the steep ravine that your teachers warned you about, the rickety wood splitting apart at the seams and overgrown with lichen and climbing ivy. Far below, the white-capped river rushes by on its long, turbulent journey to the sea.
Carefully, you step onto the bridgeâfirst one foot, then the other. The energy in the air shifts as soon as your feet leave the loamy earth, finding traction instead on hewn wood, and you sigh as your fingertips brush against the railing. The magic here is an old magicâdifferent from the ancient magic that dwells in places like the werewolvesâ clearing and the realms of the fae. The low thrum of it fills the air and seeps into your veins, quickening your pulse and prickling your skin.
âI thought you might be here.â The voice comes from your left, barely audible over the rush of the river.
âYou thought right,â you reply, stepping forward until youâre toeing the railing and leaning over to stare down into the swirling, eddying waters below.
Hoseok joins you at the edge. His profile is stark against the leafy green backdrop, and for a few moments, all is still. Then: âIâm really sorry about last night.â
The apology hangs in the silence for a few moments before fading into the sound of churning water and wind whistling through the trees. You suck in a deep breath, oxygen swelling your lungs until you can hold it in no longer, before letting it escape in a resigned sigh.
âYou donât have to apologize to me, Hoseok.â
âMaybe not. But I want to.â He shoots you a sidelong glance. âWill you let me make it up to you?â
You raise a brow. âMake it up to me? And how exactly do you plan on doing that?â
âAnything you want.â Hoseok smiles crookedly, but you canât quell the tumult brewing in your belly.
âWhat do you want, Hobi?â
His smile fades. âIââ He stops and shakes his head, auburn hair flying. âIt doesnât matter what I want. This is about you.â
You gaze up at him, taking in the sharp cut of his jawline and the straight angle of his nose. Your eyes trail along the smooth slope of his rounded cheeks and the soft curve of his mouth, lingering on the little mole atop his upper lip.
And then you reach out and take his hand, savoring the way his fingers immediately, comfortably settle into the spaces between your own. âWhy donât we head down to the river?â you ask. âItâs been a long time since weâve been, and Iâve missed it.â
Hoseokâs expression softens, a glimmer of something bright shining in his amber-flecked irises. Gently, he tugs on your hand, taking the lead as you leave the bridge behind and head north in search of the sloping path that will take you down and into the ravine that houses the riverbed. You chance a few glances over the treacherous edge, watching the water froth and tumble over the rocks.
âYou know, this seems a lot more dangerous now than it did back then,â you muse. âI see why our teachers were always trying to keep us away.â
âWe were kids back then,â Hoseok says, grinning. âWe thought we were invincible. Nothing could touch us.â
âSimpler times,â you agree with a laugh. âI set your tail on fire, you criedââ
ââand then we became lifelong friends,â Hoseok finishes, joining in your mirth. âEasy-peasy.â
Together, you locate the path down to the ravine. The descent is easier than it was back then, your longer limbs extending your reach, but youâre grateful for Hoseokâs steadying hand all the same. He carefully guides you around the biggest rocks and tree roots, pulling you closer when you lose your footing near the bottom. His fingers remain twined with yours even after youâve safely arrived at the riverbed, stepping across stones that have been worn smooth and warmed by the sun. You slip off your shoes, letting them dangle from your free hand, and Hoseok does the same.
Sunlight glitters off the water, throwing a thousand refractive diamonds across the surface, but when you dip your toes in you find that itâs cold as a mountain spring in autumn. That doesnât stop Hoseok from bending down to splash you though, and you shriek in surprise before retaliating with a silent spell that sends icy water splattering across the faded denim of his jeans.
âThatâs not fair!â he protests. âYou canât use magic!â
âIâm just using every resource available to me,â you reply with a sly grin, sending a swelling wave of water toward him with a lazy twist of your hand.
From beneath his drenched hair, Hoseok raises a challenging brow in your direction. âOh yeah?â
Before you can even blink, heâs shrugging off his jacket and pulling his shirt over his head, baring a taut, honeyed abdomen and toned arms. Tossing the discarded clothes onto the bank, he unfastens his belt and lets that drop as well, fixing you with a crooked little smirk all the while. The muscles in his torso ripple.
And then heâs shiftingâlimbs elongating and reddish-brown fur sprouting from his skin. His remaining clothing rips under the strain of the transformation, floating downstream in tattered shreds, but you donât pay them any mind. No matter how many times youâve watched Hoseok shift, youâll never quite get used to it. He hunches over, more beast than man at this point, his chest rumbling. And before you know itâbefore you can even pinpoint exactly when the transformation is completeâheâs standing before you as a massive russet wolf, baring ferociously sharp teeth that you know could easily tear a man limb from limb.
His eyes, however, remain the sameâwarm, molten brown flecked with amber and gold, a devilish twinkle lurking in their depths. You cock your head to the side in a silent challenge, and swear that the wolf in front of you grins before pouncing forward, landing in the river with an enormous splash that leaves you thoroughly drenched.
âNow weâre both soaked!â you cry in between giggles, watching as Hoseok emerges from the water, his fur dampened black and dripping. âHow is this a win for you?â
Hoseok rears back and lets loose a triumphant howl, shaking himself out and further drenching you with the spray of water from his coat. You squeal and back up several steps, batting him away, but Hoseok just presses closer and nuzzles his wet face into the crook of your neck. His body heaves with every breath, flaring hot against your skin, and for a few long moments, you simply stand there, your arms coming up to wrap around his neck as icy water rushes past your ankles.
After what feels like an eternity, you step back, releasing Hoseok and staring up into his face. Even in his wolf form, he towers over you, and you reach up to stroke his muzzle tenderly before bopping him on the nose. âCome on,â you murmur. âLetâs dry off.â
Hoseok lets out a low rumble of agreement, and together, you make your way back to shore. You fold up his discarded clothing while he trots off to locate his shredded jeans, quickly finding them caught between some rocks and carrying the denim tatters back over to you in his teeth. Shaking your head, you add it to the growing pile and lay a hand atop it. Heat concentrates in your fingertips, mingling with the magic running through your veins. Stitch by stitch, his jeans repair themselves, drying in the process. Hoseok bumps your cheek with his nose in gratitude and darts off to change, and you dry your own clothes while you wait.
When Hoseok returns, heâs reverted to his human form, fully dressed and raking a hand through his damp hair. âThanks for drying these off,â he says, flashing you a sheepish grin. âAnd for fixing my pants. Again.â
âMending charms are easy,â you reply, and itâs the truth. Over the many years youâve known Hoseok, youâve mended his clothing countless timesâfrom the accidental transformations in his early years, before he could control it, to the calculated ones as he got older. Hoseok doesnât shift terribly often nowadays, but on occasion he still goes out to stretch his muscles and hunt with his pack. His grandfather, in particular, always made the time to take him hunting at least once a month. You wonder if heâs gone since he passed, but decide not to ask.
âShould we go see the Towers?â you ask instead.
âLead the way,â he agrees, falling into step beside you as you head downstream. The ravine walls are higher here, decorated with gnarled roots and rocky outcrops that obscure the periwinkle sky and cast long shadows across the ground. Cairns begin to crop up on both sides of the riverâeach tower of stones carefully and deliberately stacked. Theyâre small and scattered at first, but gradually become taller and more frequent until youâre nearly surrounded by a forest of stone. The air grows noticeably heavierâthe magic more potent. It almost feels as if electricity is dancing across your skin, the sparks sinking into your pores and melding with your soul.
Hoseok feels it too, if the look of awe in his eyes is any indication. âI canât believe Iâd nearly forgotten about this place,â he marvels, running a finger across one of the stacked stones. âDo you feel that? The magic?â Then he chuckles. âWait, of course you do. What am I talking about?â
You smile softly, tracing the path his fingertips leave behind. âYeah, Hobi. I feel it.â
The topmost stones are almost out of your reach now. Reaching into your pocket, you pull out a gray pebble about the size of your palmâa near perfect disc veined with white. Gently, you place it atop the cairn closest to you, watching it glint in the sunlight for a moment before turning to your companion.
âWell?â
Ancient legend dictates that as long as an offering is left, one may take a stone from the Towers. You and Hoseok have each acquired a rather sizable collection during your childhood years, lured by the promise that the stones will bring about good fortune and happiness.
âI forgot to bring something,â Hoseok admits, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. âBut I can pick one out for you. Hang onâŚâ He hums thoughtfully as he scans the towering pillars, tapping his chin until he alights on one in particular, plucking up a stone thatâs been worn smooth, burnished orange and marbled with ivory and copper. âWhat do you think?â
âItâs beautiful,â you reply, admiring the way the marbled surface glitters in the sun.
Hoseok takes your hand and places the stone gently in your palm. âItâs yours.â
Then heâs offâstepping over a fallen log to admire another tower, brushing a curious finger across a moss-covered rock before glancing over his shoulder at you. âComing?â
You nod, tucking his gift away safely in your pocket. Together, you carve out a path amongst the towering cairns, clambering over river rocks and brushing aside the dense undergrowth. The path opens up again gradually, revealing the burbling water to your left and the steep ravine wall to your right. The river is calmer hereâclear enough to see all the way to the bottom where shimmering, silvery fish dart about. A low, flat rock juts out into the water a short ways away, and Hoseok strides over to plop atop it, gesturing for you to join him.
âThis is nice,â he sighs once youâve made yourself comfortable by his side. âThe fresh air is doing me a world of good. Iâve been cooped up at the office for so long, I swear I almost forgot what trees smell like.â
âYouâre more than welcome to sniff around the shop if you ever need a reminder,â you tell him, nudging his shoulder playfully. âBetter yet, Iâll bring you a plant for your office. Spruce up the place a little bit.â
âThat sounds great, actually,â he admits with a chuckle. âI donât have your green thumb, though. Iâll probably end up accidentally killing it.â
âSomething low maintenance, then,â you promise. âA succulent, maybe. When should I bring it by?â
Hoseokâs expression sombers. âYou can always stop by tomorrow after the hearing.â
Your heart plummets into your stomach. The Ministryâthe overarching government body that dictates all Shadowfolk affairsâsummons every pack alpha for a confirmation hearing when they first come into power. âTheyâre holding the hearing? Already?â
He nods. âThe Ministryâs summoned me for tomorrow morning. First item on their schedule, Iâm pretty sure.â A resigned sigh escapes his lips, dissipating into mist on the air. âAnd thereâs a party at JungTech HQ afterward. You know. So my dad can officially hand the reins over.â
âThe most powerful man in Gwangju,â you murmur, thinking back to Lisaâs words.
Hoseok lets out a derisive snort. âYeah, right. The most powerful man, beholden to his dad, the Council, and the entire fucking Ministry. It doesnât matter what I want to do. Never has.â
Itâs the second time heâs dismissed his feelings, and as much as you want to ask what it is he truly wants, you find that the words are stuck in your throat, your mouth suddenly as dry as the desert on a cloudless day. Instead, you lay a silent hand over his, feeling his warmth seep up into your palm.
âHey.â Hoseok doesnât tear his gaze away from the sky, watching a flock of birds fly overhead. âYesterday, when Nayeon said sheâd stopped by⌠did she say anything to you?â
The sound of her name leaving his lips leaves a sour taste on your tongue, but you swallow it down. âNot really,â you tell him. âShe looked at some flowers and invited me to dinner. Simple as that.â
Hoseok nods slowly, lips pursed. âWas Jin already there when she came?â
You blink. âJin? Oh, noâno, he wasnât. I texted him after Nayeon left.â
âAh.â
âIâm glad he was free, though.â You stare down into the water, where a curious fish swims in and out of the shadow you cast. âIâm honestly not sure who I couldâve invited if he hadnât been available. Plus, itâs been ages since Iâve had dinner with him, and itâs been a few months since youâve seen him too, right? Iâm really happy it worked out.â Youâre rambling now, but you canât stop yourself. Hoseok has become eerily still, lost in introspection, and you feel obligated to fill the silence.
âYou two make sense, you know.â Hoseokâs voice comes suddenly. âAs a couple. Both witchesâit makes a lot of sense.â
You peer over at him, eyes widening at his assumption. âWeâweâre not actually together, Jin and I. Weâre just friends.â
Hoseok straightens at that, his gaze flitting down to meet yours. âReally?â
âReally.â
A beat of silence. Hoseok looks like he wants to say something else, but a quiet buzz from his pocket stops him in his tracks. His mouth clamps shut as he checks his phone, teeth clicking together, and you can tell from the sudden tension in his jaw that it isnât good news.
âDo you have to head back?â
He nods stiffly, silent apology written all over his face. âWork calls.â
You offer him a reassuring smile. âDonât worry about me. Go on. Iâll see you tomorrow after your hearing.â
He nods again and turns to leave. Before he can take too many steps, though, you call him back, reaching into your pocket to pull out the stone heâd gifted you earlier.
âTake this,â you murmur, pressing it into his hands. âIâm pretty sure you need it more than I do right now.â
Hoseokâs fingers curl protectively around the stone, holding on like itâs his only remaining lifeline. âThanks.â

Downtown Gwangju is a monochrome forest of towering glass and steel, clamorous and unchecked by nature, proudly defiant in the face of the earth mother herself. The sidewalks are awash with people rushing back from their lunch break, forcing you to dodge around several businessmen too absorbed in their phones. Just as you are finding your footing again, a hapless intern carrying a tray of coffee cups rushes past, nearly crashing into you.
âOh, shiâsorry! Sorry, oh, jeez. Are you okay?â
You wave off his apology with a smile, taking in the ill fit of his suit and the messy knot of his tie. âDonât worry about it,â you tell him, reaching out to help him steady the tray in his hands. A stabilizing spellâsilently cast, the magic pulsing through your fingertipsâshould be enough to get him back to his office with no additional mishaps. You wonder if heâll notice that his tray is suddenly more well-balanced, or that his hands have steadied.
But then again, you suppose it doesnât really matter whether he does or not.
Somehow, someway, you make it to JungTech without running into anyone else. The receptionist recognizes you immediately and points you toward the elevator with a smile, and you thank her as you press the up button. It doesnât take long to arrive, and you take a deep breath as you step inside, staring at your reflection in the mirrored walls.
All right? Bast queries, stirring awake in your mind.
You release the breath that youâd been holding in a long whoosh. Yeah. Iâm all right.
The doors open on the top floor, and straight away, you are assailed by a cacophony of sounds. Scattered conversations and laughter intermingle with the clinking of champagne flutes. There are at least fifty people scattered around the open space that lies between the elevator and the glass-fronted CEOâs office at the very backâthe office that bears Hoseokâs name on the door. Thereâs no sign of the man himself, but you have no doubt that heâs nearby. This entire party is a celebration for him, after all.
The elevator doors begin to close, and you quickly reach out to stop them, stepping out before it can protest at your dawdling. A young man in a pristine white shirt materializes on your right with a tray full of champagne flutes, and you pluck one off with a murmur of thanks. Sipping slowly, you wander around the perimeters of the party, listening to the lively chatter. Across the room, you spot Lisa, returning her friendly wave with one of your own.
âHello, {Name}.â
The deep, familiar voice has you whirling around in an instant, head bowing in automatic deference. âMr. Jung,â you murmur, not quite daring to look him in the eye. âItâs been a while.â
Hoseokâs father inclines his head in acknowledgment, salt-and-pepper hair gleaming beneath the fluorescent lights. No doubt he was a handsome man in his younger days, but the salt in his hair has steadily overtaken the pepper in the last few years, the stern lines around his mouth deepening.
âI didnât know you would be joining us today,â he says cordially. âBut then again, I suppose I shouldnât be surprised after all these years. Have you been here long?â
âNot long. Five minutes, maybe.â Beneath his piercing gaze, you feel like a small child again. Quickly, you scramble for something else to say, gesturing around the sleek glass interior of the office. âThis is a lovely party. You must be so proud.â
Another nod. âI wasnât sure that Hoseok was going to step up,â he admits. âI had my reservations about whether or not he would accept his duties as a Jung, but he has, and Iâm pleased that he did. Itâs no easy feat, running this company and leading the cityâs pack. But Iâve served my time, just as my father did before me.â His gaze flits down to meet yours suddenly, and you find that you canât read the emotion swimming in them. âI believe I spotted you at his funeral the other day, did I not?â
You nod, resisting the urge to take a sip from your nearly empty champagne glass as your cheeks warm under the scrutiny. âI was, yes. Iâm very grateful to have had the opportunity to pay my respects. He was a great man.â
âThat, he was,â Mr. Jung agrees. âHoseok takes after him in many ways. My fatherâas great as he wasâalways had a soft spot for the boy. Coddled him a bit too much.â
âWith all due respect, Mr. Jung, I think thatâs a grandfatherâs job,â you reply with a smile.
That earns you a smile in return, the lines around his mouth easing. After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Hoseokâs father excuses himself to talk to the other guests, and you set off in search of Hoseok himself. You can feel his aura somewhere nearby, strong and steady, but the room is large enough that you cannot pinpoint his exact location. Not for the first time, you curse the fact that you donât have a werewolfâs sharp sense of smell. No doubt it could easily be as cumbersome as it is helpful, but it would certainly help you right now.
Turning a corner, you are about to continue lamenting your average olfactory system when you suddenly catch a glimpse of familiar auburn hair, afloat in a sea of black suits. Dodging around a sharply dressed businesswoman and ducking beneath a waiterâs serving tray clears your path to Hoseok, and youâre milliseconds away from stepping forward to greet him when you feel it.
Thereâs an energy emanating from Hoseok, the likes of which youâve never felt from him before. Itâs heavy and commanding and so potent that the air is laden with it, and a cursory glance at the people surrounding him reveals that they feel it tooâtheir gazes lowered, voices hushed and respectful. In his fitted black suit and emerald green shirt, he looks every bit the alpha he is, and you are quickly realizing that youâre not immune to the power radiating off of him. The Hoseok standing before you isnât the same Hoseok whose tail you set on fire all those years ago. Far from it. The revelation is somehow simultaneously terrifying and thrilling, and your heart leaps into your throat when you notice that heâs waving you over.
As if compelled, you comply, striding forward until youâre standing before him. âHi,â your murmur, suddenly feeling shy.
Hoseokâs face splits into a smile. âHi yourself,â he says, and you would have laughed if your insides didnât feel like they were about to burst.
âI, um. I brought you your succulent,â you tell him, reaching into your bag. Thereâs a tiny potted jade plant inside, packaged neatly into a box that you open up and present to him. âItâs jade. Easy to keep alive, and easy to propagate too, if youâre inclined.â
Hoseok accepts your gift, his smile growing as he admires the plump green leaves. âItâs perfect. Thank you.â
You shrug and wave off his gratitude, fiddling to clasp your bag shut. âSo,â you start, glancing around and gnawing on your bottom lip, completely missing the way Hoseokâs eyes darken as he follows the movement. âIt looks like everything went well at the Ministry. Your dad is pleased.â
Hoseok hums, low in his throat. âYou talked to him?â
âYeah, just now.â
âI see.â
He looks like he wants to say something more, but heâs interrupted by a blur of motion and a shrill cry of his name. A moment later, Nayeon is at his side, latching onto his arm and batting her lashes, adorned in a form-fitting red dress and golden jewelry.
âHoseok! There you are. Iâve been looking all over for you!â Then her gaze alights on you, eyes going wide as if sheâs only just noticed your presence. â{Name}, oh my goodness. I almost didnât see you there, hi!â
âHello, Nayeon,â you grit out, unable to hide your scowl. You wonder if she spotted it before you hid it behind a large sip of champagne.
Luckily, she doesnât seem to notice. Her attention refocuses onto a spot behind you, and you watch as her expression lights up, delight etching across her features. âMr. Jung!â she exclaims. âThereâs my favorite future father-in-law. Come and join usâitâs not a party without you.â
Hoseokâs father chuckles lightly, coming forward to stand beside you. âLong time no see,â he jokes, nodding in your direction. âAnd Nayeonâhello. How are you enjoying the party?â
âOh, Iâm having the loveliest time,â she chirps, simpering up at Hoseok. âHow could I not be, when my fiancĂŠ is here with me?â Then she smilesâher lips painted the same shade of red as her dress. âBut Iâm sure Iâm nowhere near as happy as you are. You must be beyond excited to spend some quality time with your wife after being busy for so long.â
âI am,â Mr. Jung admits. The severity in his features softens as he seeks out his wife, standing across the room surrounded by friends and extended family. âIâm a very lucky man to have a woman like her.â
Nayeon giggles. âAnd Iâm a lucky woman to have a man like your son. Isnât that right, darling?â
She tilts her head to look up at Hoseok, who blinks twice in rapid succession, his throat bobbing. âRight,â he says, his voice raspy. âThe luckiest.â
And as you turn to engage Mr. Jung in conversation once more, you miss the way his gaze lingers on you.

Tuesdays at Hellebore are for brewing. You save bottling for Thursdaysâgiving your potions and other concoctions ample time to simmer and setâbut today, you are hunched over the stove with all four burners turned to different temperature settings, watching over your pots so that they donât boil over.
A cursory glance out the window tells you that itâs well into the afternoon, the pastel blue sky littered with trailing clouds lit hazy and golden in the sun. Youâve been in the kitchen since early morning, and, desperate for a breath of fresh air, you crack the window open and inhale deeply. Then you turn back to the stove, giving one pot a stir and adding a pinch of burdock root to another.
Wandering downstairs, you head to the greenhouse. The sunlight is brighter here, the air more humid. Inhaling deeply, you breathe in the scent of the hundreds of plants growing inside, before heading for the laburnum tree in the far corner. Carefully, you brush aside the cascading golden flowers, about to gather the dried ones that have fallen to the dirt when thereâs a knock on the front door.
âIâm sorry, weâre closeââ you say, stopping when you recognize the head of coppery red hair in the window. âLisa?â Confused, you open the door and let her inside. âWhat brings you here today?â
âYou need to go to Hoseok, now,â she says, foregoing any preambles. âHeâs⌠well, youâll see. Nayeonâs there right now, but sheâs not helping the situation, and...â She sighs. âIâm pretty sure youâre the only one who can help him now.â
All at once, your stomach drops to your toes. âWhatâs wrong with Hoseok?â you demand. âIs he hurt?â
Lisa shakes her head, red hair flying. âNo, heâs fine. I donât know how much longer thatâll last, though.â
The cryptic response sends your heart into overdrive, pounding against your ribcage like a doomsday drum. Striding over to the bay window, you wake Bast from his nap in a slanted ray of sunlight, scratching behind his black ears and watching as his golden eyes flicker open, pupils going wide when he senses your turmoil.
What is it?
Hoseok, you reply shortly. Beneath your touch, Bastâs ears perk up.
What do you need?
You swallow, hard, and suck in a deep breath. Iâm going to open a portal.
Itâs a dangerous feat, and both you and Bast know it. Opening a portal requires an immense amount of energy, and maintaining one long enough to travel through is a risk to even the most experienced witches. Youâve heard horror stories of spliced limbs and paralysis, and in some cases, even death.
But for Hoseok, youâre willing to risk it all.
âLisa,â you say, grabbing your purse and striding back to the front door of the shop. âCan you lock up once Iâm gone?â
She nods nervously. âOf course.â
You incline your head in silent thanks. At your feet, Bast is slinking continuous figure-eights around your ankles, betraying his worry at the task ahead. Your own heart feels ready to spring out from your ribcage and onto the sun-drenched floor, but you swallow down your nerves and look down at your familiar once more. Ready? you ask.
Ready, Bast confirms. Be careful.
I will.
Closing your eyes, you begin to visualize Hoseokâs front door, focusing on every little detail you can remember. Thereâs the scuff in the black paint from when he first moved in and accidentally scraped a table leg against it. Thereâs the bronze knocker that always hangs slightly askew. The image builds slowly in your mind, coming together like the broken pieces of a puzzle.
The air around you is suddenly much warmer than before, an invisible force sapping away at your strength and weakening your legs. Bastâs energy melds with yours, but itâs barely enough to keep you on your feet. Exhaustion seeps into your bones and steals the oxygen from your lungs. You gasp, chest heaving.
I donât think itâs going to work. Bastâs voice is a faint whisper in the back of your mind.
It will, you hiss. It has to.
The front door of your shop is beginning to glow white, becoming hazy and amorphous as the edges begin to blur. You spot a splash of black paint coming through the fog, followed by a bronze knocker. A matching handle appears a moment later, growing out of tendrils of mist and solidifying before your eyes.
Sucking in a deep breath, you reach forward to grab it. Slowly, you turn until you can turn no longer.
And then you step through.
The first thing you hear is a low, cavernous rumbleâdeep enough that you feel it reverberating through your very bones. Then your surroundings begin to come into focus. Youâre in Hoseokâs entryway, all your limbs thankfully intact. The relief you feel at your success is quickly eclipsed by worry though, when you see Hoseok himself on the far side of the living room. The look in his brown eyes is nothing short of wild, his white shirt unbuttoned to nearly his navel and his auburn hair sweaty and disheveled.
âH-Hobi?â Your voice is no more than a breath, dissipating in the open air.
âHoseok.â The new voice has you whirling. Nayeon is pressed against the wall opposite him, her expression harried. âHoseok, pleaseââ
âGet out,â Hoseok growls, his voice dangerously low. Heâs bristling with the same energy as before, the same energy you felt back at JungTechâbut this time itâs enough to fill the room and spill out the opened door and into the hallway. You can feel it pulsing against your skin, hot and electric, and know that Nayeon is even more affected from the way her shoulders slouch, her eyes dropping to the floor when he snarls. âGet out, now.â
She does. Nayeon turns on her heel and dashes out, slamming the door behind her and leaving you alone with Hoseok. His eyes are alight with something more wolf than man, his chest heaving with uneven breaths, and itâs all you can do not to shrink back when he turns his full attention onto you. Even from across the room, you can smell the liquor spilled across the coffee table in a dark ooze of fluid, cloying and bitter.
âWhat are you doing here?â Hoseok asks, his voice cracking on the last syllable. âYou shouldnât be here right now, {Name}.â
âLisa told me to come,â you whisper. âYouâve been pushing yourself too much, Hoseok.â
Hoseok shakes his head and rakes a frazzled hand through his hair. âYou need to leave,â he grunts. Shakily, he reaches out to right the overturned liquor bottle, the pad of his thumb skimming across the shattered edge.
âLet me do that,â you tell him, making to step forward, but Hoseok stops you with a raised hand and a low growl that stops you in your tracks.
âDonât,â he hisses. âDonât you dare come any closer to me.â
You shake your head. âHobi, itâs obvious youâve been drinking. Let me help you.â
âNo!â he snarls, flinching back when you take a step forward. âYou need to leave. Itâs⌠itâs dangerous for you here.â
âDangerous?â Your voice is reduced to a whisper at the severity of his reaction, the energy in the air intensifying until itâs almost unbearable. âWhy?â
âBecause Iâm in heat!â Hoseok spits. He sucks in a deep breath, the air whistling between his teeth, before he lets out an agonized moan and pinches the bridge of his nose. âIâm in heat,â he repeats, reticence dripping from every syllable. âI canât even fucking think straight, and Iâm afraid Iâm going to hurt you if you stay. So please, {Name}. Please go.â
âBut NayeonâŚâ you begin, wavering when his eyes flash darkly at the mention of her name. âOr Lisa⌠I can call her, maybeââ
âNo!â
You jump, startled at the volume of his shout.
âNo,â Hoseok repeats, softer this time. âDonât. I donât want them. IâmâIâm fine.â
The sticky humidity and the pulsating energy flowing through the room tell you otherwise. âYouâre clearly not,â you tell him gently, taking another step toward him. âLet me call Lisa. Or maybe one of the other girls in the pack, Iâm sure someone can help yââ
âI donât want Lisa.â Defeat suffuses his tone, his eyes fluttering shut. âI donât want any of them. I wantâfuck.â Hoseok groans and lets his head fall back against the wall, the dull thunk echoing in the stillness. âIt doesnât fucking matter what I want. You need to leave, {Name}. Youâre only going to be in danger if you stay.â
For the second time that afternoon, only one word springs to mind. âWhy?â
Hoseok groans again. âBecause Iâm weak,â he mutters hoarsely. âBecause Iâm weak, and Iâm not thinking straight, and if you come any closer to me, I wonât be able to stop myself from pinning you against that wall right there and having my way with you.â
Your breath hitches in your throat. The rippling energy in the air is almost oppressive in its strength, and only grows when Hoseokâs gaze finally lands on you, his pupils blown out and blacker than the night.
âGo,â he entreaties, dragging a frazzled hand through his hair. âPlease, {Name}.â
You suck in a deep breath, your lungs swelling and expanding with the newfound oxygen. Then, ever so slowly, you let your gaze flicker up to meet his. âWhat if I donât want to?â
Hoseok freezes. Time comes to a standstill, and even the overwhelming energy emanating from him seems to falter. The room is near silent, broken only by your companionâs ragged breathing, his chest heaving beneath the thin white fabric of his shirt. Even from across the room, you can see the sheen of sweat coating his honeyed skin, shining in the light of the setting sun.
âYou donât mean that,â he says at last. âYou canât mean that.â
âI can,â you whisper. âAnd I do.â
For three agonizingly long seconds, Hoseok remains rooted firmly in place, his throat bobbing harshly. Then, before you can even blink, heâs striding forwardâa blur of motion almost too quick for your eyes to follow. He comes to a stop a hairâs breadth from you, one hand reaching up to cup your face delicately, as if youâre made of glass.
âYou,â he rasps, âhave no idea what youâve just done.â His thumb traces the swell of your cheek just below your eye, the motion surprisingly tender. Your heart stutters in your chest.
And then he leans down and crushes his mouth to yours.
The rest of the world falls away, dissolving into nothing. Your eyes flutter shut as Hoseokâs hands slide down your sides to curl around your hips, your body melting against his taut frame. He is all you can feel and all you can taste, and you keen helplessly when he grinds against you, his cock hot and hard against your stomach.
The sound seems to awaken something in Hoseok, a cavernous groan erupting from his throat. Pulling away from your mouth, he descends upon the delicate skin of your neck, teeth and tongue blossoming bruises in their wake. Shaky hands find the collar of your shirt, questioning eyes seeking out yours for permission that you happily give. He tugs the garment off almost delicately, his ravenous gaze roving across each bit of newly revealed flesh, and once itâs freed from your head he tosses it aside and sets about doing the same to the rest of your clothing.
Maybe it should feel odd, watching through lidded eyes as Hoseok drops to his knees to pull your jeans down and off your ankles. Maybe you should feel embarrassed, seeing your best friend bury his nose between your legs, delirious bliss etching across his features as he inhales, his strong fingers curling around your thighs to spread you wider. But instead, it feels completely and utterly naturalâas if this was always meant to be.
âYou smell divine,â Hoseok breathes, slotting himself between your spread thighs and running a fingertip along your lace-covered slit, collecting the considerable slick there and bringing it to his nose. âFuck, {Name}. Just one whiff, and I can tell that youâre primed and ready for me.â
âTake me, then,â you breathe back shakily, rolling your hips when he slips past the lacy barrier of your panties to find your clit, circling around the sensitive nub until youâre gasping his name.
Hoseokâs gaze darkens to obsidian, his pupils swallowing up the amber-flecked brown of his irises. In one smooth motion, heâs on his feet again, straightening up to his full height as his hands find purchase on your hips. He twirls you around until youâre facing the wall, your palms pressed flat against the woven tapestry hanging there.
âGorgeous.â A single word, laced with unmistakable awe. Then heâs fumbling with his belt buckle, the metallic clink and tug of a zipper reaching your ears, before he presses against you, clothed chest molding against your bare back. Even through the thin layer of fabric, you can feel the sweltering heat emanating from him, his sweat soaking through the cotton and sticking to your skin. His mouth finds its way to the junction of your neck and shoulder againâteasing at the flesh until youâre quiveringâbefore he begins laying a trail of hot kisses down your spine.
âWanna fuck you,â Hoseok rasps, tearing your panties away once his lips reach the waistband, the flimsy lace ripped to shreds in his desperate grip. âWant you on your front, want you on your back, want you on my tongueââ His voice drops, rumbling through his chest and sending shivers through your entire body. âWant you. Wanted you for so long.â
And as if to reinforce his words, the velvety head of his cock nestles against the cleft of your backside, hot and slick.
Wordlessly, you arch your back, presenting him with the tempting swell of your rear. A glance over your shoulder reveals the strained clench of his jaw and the bob of his throat, his biceps tensed and his gaze unwavering. His control is undoubtedly dangling by a single thread at this pointâa delicate, gossamer thread thatâs on the verge of snapping. The delirium of his heat is overtaking his senses, his grip tightening on your hips, and ever so slowly, he begins to press forward until the tip of his thick cock is just beginning to part your walls. Already, the fit borders on excruciating, and your body tenses at the intrusion, stretched to the limit around his thick girth.
Hoseok exhales shakily, his primal instincts warring with his desire to ensure your comfort. Soft lips drop kiss after kiss onto your bare shoulders, your back, your neckâwherever he can reach as he whispers tender praises into your skin. âBreathe, princess,â he encourages lowly. âYou can take itâI know you can. You were made for me.â
Obediently, you inhale, focusing on the way your lungs expand and contract as you draw air into them. The pain ebbs away with each breath you take, until all that is left is a low throb of pleasure. Your hips rock back against him, and Hoseok takes it as a sign to push forward once more, parting your walls until heâs fully seated inside you, your body stretched to the limit as you mold around him.
Thereâs no pain nowâonly an aching desire for more, more, more. Heâs deep enough to reach parts of you that youâve never been able to explore beforeâeither alone or with other partnersâand you moan brokenly when he rolls his hips experimentally. âMore, Hoseok,â you whimper. âPlease.â
He obliges. One thrust leads into another, the punishing pace he sets fueled by his heady desperation for relief. The full, heavy weight of his cock dragging along your walls ignites every nerve ending in your body, sizzling electricity blazing through your veins. Itâs all you can do to plant your palms flat against the tapestried wall, fingers twitching at the woven fabric as Hoseok grabs your hips with enough force to bruise and pulls you back against him in time with his thrusts.
âLook at you,â he says hoarsely. âLove the way you feel, clenching around me like that. My perfect, pretty girl, taking my cock so well. I always knew you were made for me.â He grunts, forehead falling against your back, damp hair matting against your skin as he continues rutting against you. âAlwaysâfuckâknew you were my mate.â
The particularly harsh thrust that follows his raspy declaration sends all coherent thought flying out of your head, taking your surprise along with it. All you can manage is a shuddery whine that vaguely resembles his name, the sound intermingling with the obscene smack of flesh against flesh and the continuous stream of praises Hoseok whispers into your skin.
Thereâs something building inside youâa dull, throbbing pressure at the point where your body joins with his. Heâs still rolling up into you, but each subsequent thrust grows more and more shallow. The realization dawns on your dazed mind all at once, as you feel the growing swell at the base of his cock. Hoseok is rendered near immobile as he finally reaches his high, the entirety of his length sheathed firmly inside your pussy as he spills ropes of white against your fluttering walls. The swelling continues, filling you until you feel fit to burst.
âH-Hoseok,â you gasp. âI canât. I canâtâyouâre going to rip me in half.â
Soothing hands smooth along your sides, warm lips littering kisses onto your bare shoulders. âYou can,â he murmurs tenderly. âYou were made for me, and I for you. You can take it, princess. I know you can.â
The gentle repetition of his fingertips trailing nonsensical patterns into your skin eases your labored panting somewhat. Beneath his touch, you slowly relax, the pressure in your abdomen abating as his knot begins to subside.
âYou did so well.â His voice is no more than a mumble, almost lost in the sweat and slick coating your skin.
You sag against the wall, taking a few moments to catch your breath before slowly easing off of him, the sudden loss leaving your core empty and aching. Gingerly, you turn around to face him, acutely aware of the way your combined juices immediately begin dribbling down your thighs.
âYou said I was your mate,â you whisper, almost afraid that the sentiment will disappear if voiced aloud. âDid⌠did you mean that?â
âEvery word,â Hoseok replies, equally soft. âIs that okay?â
A smile blooms across your face. Rising up to your tiptoes, you kiss him againâa soft, reassuring peck that he immediately leans into, seeking out your touch like a flower in the sun. âMore than okay,â you breathe, feeling the way his lips stretch upward against yours. âIâm glad, Hobi.â
Hoseok sighs into your mouth, a slow smile settling across his features. âNow itâs your turn,â he says, and in an instant, heâs swept you off your feet, one arm beneath your bent knees and the other around your back. âAnd Iâm planning to take my time with you, princess. Youâre not leaving here until I say so.â
You wrap your arms around his neck, crossing your hands at his nape. âFine by me,â you tell him, earning yourself a wide grin. His lips seek out yours again as he carries you down the darkened hallway and into the shadowy depths of his bedroom, pausing only to nudge the lightswitch on with his elbow. Golden light suffuses the room as he steps forward to lay you on his bed, your back sinking into the plush mattress and dipping further when he joins you. He hovers over you with an arm on either side of your head, and you reach up to trace the vein that lines his biceps with a gentle fingertip, giggling when he gives your bottom lip a punishing nip.
The kiss deepens from there. Hoseok parts your lips and seeks out your tongue with his own, subduing it into compliance. By the time you pull apart, all the oxygen has left your lungs, leaving you flushed and gasping. Hoseok chortles breathlessly and trails down to press a kiss to your navel, before traveling downward until heâs reached your clit. Gently, he wraps his lips around the sensitive nub, rumbling with laughter when you buck against him.
âSo needy,â he murmurs. To your displeasure, he straightens back up to kneel between your spread thighs, but your complaint quickly dissolves into thin air when he edges forward until his knee is pressed against your aching clit. Desperate for more friction, you grind against him, your wetness soaking through his jeans in a matter of seconds.
It doesnât take long for pressure to build up in your belly again, winding tight as a coiled spring. Hoseok is staring down at you, transfixed, and his undivided attention only serves to bring you closer to the edge, teetering on the very brink.
âLook at you.â His voice could almost be described as a purr, if he werenât so utterly canine in mannerisms and appearance. âSuch a greedy little thing, all desperate to get off. Youâre making a mess of my new jeans, princess.â
Youâre too far gone to care about the teasing lilt that colors his tone. The edge is rapidly approaching, and one last roll of your hips is enough to send you over, your walls convulsing around nothing as you ride out your high.
Hoseok doesnât wait. In an instant, heâs back between your legs, having moved so quickly you didnât even see when heâd started or stopped. His tongue darts out to lave at your folds, a growl rumbling through his chest when your hips jump on instinct. Immediately, he tightens his grip, strong arms winding around your thighs and anchoring at your waist to render you helpless in his grasp, only able to take what he sees fit to give.
âHow is it that you taste even better than you smell?â Hoseok muses as he leans down to suck your clit into his mouth, lips curling up into a pleased smirk when you gasp out his name. âCute,â he says, releasing the nub in favor of descending to your drenched entrance instead, flicking his tongue shallowly inside before withdrawing with a chuckle.
âHoseokââ you begin, only to dissolve into a moan when he sheaths two fingers inside you without any warning, curling them up and in until youâre shaking in his grasp.
âCome for me,â he commands softly. âGo on, let me hear you.â
And you do, chanting his name like a mantra as a wave of pleasure overtakes you. Hoseokâs thumb circles your clit in just the right way to prolong your orgasm, and it isnât until youâre cringing from overstimulation that he finally relents, descending down to mold his mouth to yours in a searing kiss. His lips part yours, tongue dipping out to explore as he sheds his shirt and shucks off his ruined jeans. His skin, when he presses against you, burns hot as a furnace wherever it touches. Against your stomach, his cock stirs back to life.
Heâs gentler this time. Every movement is slow and deliberate and tender as he breaches you, murmuring your name reverentially as he fills you again. Your body bows to his willingly, stretching to accommodate him, and the spike of pleasure that lances through you when he bottoms out is almost enough to send your oversensitive body over the edge again, your walls fluttering around him.
Thereâs an unmistakable shift in the air when Hoseok starts up a slow rhythm, leaning down to kiss you again. His lips move against yours, soft and tender, before moving past your jugular and down to the crook of your neck, elongated canines scraping against the delicate skin in a silent question. You wind your arms around his neck and nod, giving him his answer. Thereâs no need for words.
And then his teeth are sinking into the spot heâs so lovingly scoped out, breaking the skin. Your body collapses into a searing orgasm, and the pleasure intermingles with the pain of the bite until you are delirious, rendered boneless in his grasp. Hoseokâs hips stutter, his pace growing erratic as he soothes the wound over with his tongue.
Youâre prepared for the swelling this time, but the fullness still manages to knock all the air out of your lungs, bordering on painful as his knot grows. Hoseok quells your whimpers with tender kisses, the instinct to comfort his mate paramount even as he paints your walls with ropes of creamy white. He traces a path from your lips down to where heâs marked and claimed you as his, imbuing your skin with a litany of praises that warm you from the inside out.
âMy mate,â he murmurs, reverent. âFinally.â
You lean into his touch with a tired smile. âFinally? How long have you wanted this?â
His lips curl into a smile against your clavicle. âAges. If Iâm honest, I think I fell in love with you the day you set my tail on fire when we were kids. Itâs always been you, {Name}. Only you.â
You canât help itâyou need to hear it from his mouth again. âYou love me?â
Hoseok chuckles. âOf course I do. My tricky little minxâmy perfect, pretty mate. I love you more than anything.â One hand reaches up to caress your cheek, running along the tender skin beneath your eye before cupping the back of your head so he can mold his mouth to yours. âLove you more than I can even explain,â he breathes, punctuating each word with a kiss. His hands blaze trails down the slopes of your body until he finally anchors below the crook of your legs. âSo why donât you let me show you instead?â
And he does. Over and over that night, and in the two days of his heat that follow, he shows you exactly how he feels. Propriety is forgotten, left by the wayside with his scorned fiancĂŠ and marriage. He is yours, and you are his.
Consequences be damned.
â˘Â aftermath.

After seeing your marriage hcâs Iâd like to request hcâs of Hawks, Aizawa, Bakugo, and Shinsou reacting to their wifeâs water breaking prematurely and at random. Mainly like everyoneâs at a party and having a good time and suddenly someoneâs like âY/N, did you spill something?â Y/N:*doesnât have a drink on her so sheâs confused until she looks down and realizes what happened* OH-
đđđđ ok but all these guys' babies coming out whenever they foken want is a headcanon by itself, like we all know they'd be like their fathers coming and going whenever they feel like and that kills me akjdksjsj this ask made me laugh so hard but omg i felt the embarrassment when writing, send help Iâ
Hawks:
Ă your due date was approaching quickly and Hawks was so attentive it hurt
Ă you had to insist to go out with you friends because bird-brain was getting very worried/protective
Ă you finally came to an agreement: lowkey party at your house BUT you're not moving a finger
Ă like you could; Keigo would jump up and grab anything for you and for everyone else
Ă the good thing is that you ordered takeout and your friends brought goodies, much like Hawks himself so you just sat and talked with everyone while he looked at you with stars in his eyes
Ă everyone was talking about your future baby and just celebrating the new life about to come around and I swear, this man's feathers puffed proudly every single time
Ă you had such a great time, enjoying the laughter and good energy you were surrounded by when you got thirsty
Ă Keigo was in the kitchen, his feathers bringing some sweets for everyone in the living room so you got up [ struggled to ] and headed towards his direction
Ă Mirko was the one that pointed it out as she was assigned the duty to follow you around [ while she made fun of Keigo for being a mama hen but ok ]
Ă "Hey, [Y/N], did you drop something on you...?"
Ă you couldn't even see bc of your belly but you definitely heard a crash in the kitchen and some rushed steps
Ă as fast as humanly possible, your husband was by your side wide eyed
Ă "What happened?" he asked trying to be casual but his eyes roamed over you until they landed under your feet...
Ă "I didn't drop anything, I just wanted some waterâ"
Ă "You should have told me, birdie. Wait... Where did you get the water then?"
Ă "I didn't...?"
Ă everyone kinda stared confused until one of your friends started panicking because the heroes there were just confused???
Ă "Wait, you broke waters!"
Ă "oh, right" you mutter while honey colored eyes stare at you in shock
Ă how did you both forget about that? you talked about it some days ago, likeâ
Ă Panic! Hidden by a casual attitude
Ă meanwhile now you're embarrassed because what the hell, mini-bird?
Ă he orders his feathers to clean around but fails miserably while trying to grab clothes for your hospital stay
Ă your friends have to calm him down as they offered to help clean up and you're just embarrassed because c'mon, man
Ă i swear, this man does it in a rush anyway and asks everyone to keep calm [ đ ] while he takes his little angel to the hospital
Ă car ride? lmfao have fun flying, this is an eMeRgEnCy [ trust me, you're always safe with him, no doubt of that ]
Ă you try to open your mouth but he's just reassuring you; "You're doing amazing, angel."; "Just a little longer and we're there!"; meanwhile you haven't fucking changed your wet clothes and were getting annoyed
Ă bursts into the hospital like he owns it
Ă guess who's sent back home and told to come back when the contraptions get stronger? mhm.
Ă you almost smack him bc he literally gave you no time to talk once you're back at home
Ă he's a dumb bird but he's your dumb bird đ
Ă [ your friends stayed to clean up the dishes just to easen your burden so you find them there when you come back. they had a great time laughing at your husband before they left you with the promise they'll visit asap at the hospital ]
Ă honestly he's normally very calm and calculating but this time around the nervousness of being a father got to him, so please forgive him
Aizawa Shouta:
Ă the most chill of them all and that's very reassuring for someone who is pregnant
Ă you've promised him you'd take things easy and not force yourself to do much
Ă and even if you wanted to, honestly you couldn't
à but he's been such an amazing person to you, made you lunches, gave you back massages, did all the tough tasks around the house 𼺠so when he forgot his lunch at home, rare of him, you wanted to surprise him, completely forgetting the school had one of the best chef in the world;;;
Ă your body was screaming for some fresh air too so you decided to go towards U.A.
Ă it wasn't a long walk, really, since he had to be close to the school anyway
Ă so when you arrived at mid-day the first person to greet you was principal Nezu and trust me, he was so excited to see you after so long!
Ă he accompanied you to the teachers' room where they had all their desks already knowing he would be there shortly
Ă you greet All Might, which beamed to see you and started a small conversation
Ă the bell rang, indicated class finished and lunchbreak starter which made you excited to know you'll see your husband shortly
Ă and you knew he was approaching when a loud voice could be heard on the hallways
Ă the door opened, Shouta and Yamada walking in, the blond talking excitedly until it stopped
Ă "[Y/N], so good to see you!" He screamed
Ă Shouta's eyes snapped towards you in surprise and he walked to you in a faster pace than before
Ă he ignored everyone else as he scolded you "Didn't we agree you'd take it easy?"
Ă "Well, good to see you too" đđ¤
Ă a quick banter takes over you two as you hugged Hizashi and handled your husband his lunch
Ă "You should sit down" Nezu suggested and you started to feel the ache of walking, so you moved towards one of the chairs with Aizawa's help
Ă "Seriously, you're more stubborn than my students" he'd mutter, nudging your shoulder slightly, all through a smile
Ă but before you could reach the chair you felt it, the water running from between your legs;;;
Ă you gripped his hand harshly and Hizashi screamed
Ă "What tHe HeLL diD I STEP ON?!???"
Ă the mf was following you two suggesting to eat lunch together and?????
Ă ok, so everyone freezes until Nezu clears his throat;;;
Ă "I'll call Chiyo, you two wait right here!" he escapes, All Might somehow on his toes
Ă you turn your head towards Aizawa horrified about to suggest cleaning the mess up before getting ready to leave when...
Ă "WAIT, I STEPPED ON BABY JUICE!?"
Ă Recovery Girl came around but was pleased to know both of you were prepared for this moment, although she did have to wake Hizashi up, since he fainted; Shouta, being the big boy he is, cleaned the floor without making a big deal out of it
Ă at the end of the day all you could do was smile before realizing what's about to come; your baby will be surrounded by amazing people and it's all that mattered
Bakugou Katsuki:
Ă this guy prepares in secret; don't question all the baby books you find sneaked around the house like it's not your damned home too but whatever;;;
Ă Bakugou is very protective over you, he also takes charge of everything, which makes you feel bad bc you seriously feel like you can't do anything anymore
Ă it happened at the Bakugou household [ your in laws excitedly invited you over the phone but also suggested that they could drop by if you weren't in conditions to go there ]
Ă you put your foot down and said you would, knowing it would freak your husband out and guess what? it did
Ă but you really wanted to go out, you felt extremely bored and babied at home and were in need of social interactions
Ă "I swear I married the most stubborn dumbass everâ" he'd mutter as he drove you both there
Ă dinner was amazing, as always, and Mitsuki was making it even better by telling you funny stories from Katsuki's childhood, earning scoffs from him
Ă the normal arguments started and you were gently escorted by Masaru to the living room, both ignoring the banter happening by the dining table
Ă he joked around with you when you felt a kick saying he can definitely tell who the kid will take from, as if your baby wanted to participate in the argument too
Ă anyway you stopped mid-track saying you wanted to go to the bathroom; you really felt like going all of a sudden
Ă when you started heading towards there [ Katsuki chiming in asking if you need help, wtf ], you knew
Ă i mean, everyone knew;; your water broke, but want to know what else broke too? hell. hell broke loose
Ă "What are you staring at?! Go help [Y/N]!"
Ă "I know, old hag!" He rushed to you as Mitsuki went to grab some cleaning supplies
Ă you're apologizing profusely but you're brushed off instantly
Ă "No big deal, [Y/N], everything will be okay" Masaru, bless him, was by your side as his son went to grab the bag he has prepared in secret from the car
Ă you ended up going all together to the hospital as contraptions increased
Ă Katsuki was on your side reciting word by word what's going to happen, remembering the parenting books by memory; it was making you roll your eyes at them because yes, you knew;
Ă "Did you fucking tell her to push?" Mitsuki screamed
Ă "Iâ! SHUT THE TELL UP!" he screamed back then turned to you, telling you to breathe to just freeze in place
Ă both shut up as you glared at them;
Ă it seems the new Bakugou member really wanted to take part of the argument for before đ
Hitoshi Shinsou:
Ă life was finally settling between you two
Ă his career, even if it was focused underground, was rocketing up, he was married to an amazing person and you were having a beautiful baby together? Shinsou was a happy man
Ă you both talked about how to deal when time comes and everything was settled, you even had a suitcase ready for the hospital stay
Ă he was so attentive đĽş
Ă anyway your friends suggested to see you before the big day comes and you agreed it had to be now because as your due day approached, you wanted to be home
Ă so you went to a small restaurant near your house to meet Izuku, Uraraka and Denki, as the days before you met your families and other friends
Ă Ochako got you an insane amount of gifts, Izuku was reading about parenthood idk why đ and Denki was just patting Shinsou's back congratulating him again and again
Ă you had a great time to say at least
Ă you snorted at Denki when he touched your belly and got a kick in response
Ă "Just like his father, ready to put you in place" Uraraka smiled, patting the blond on the back whike Shinsou grabbed your hand with a smirk
Ă but you froze in place as you smiled back because you felt it
Ă and dripping water could be heard
Ă did you justâ?
Ă Shinsou caught on instantly on your discomfort and talked even before you could
Ă "What's wrong?" while you looked down, which his gaze followed
Ă Ok, this man is gonna stop functioning for a second, it is what it is
Ă meanwhile you're mortified because YOU'RE IN A RESTAURANT, YOU'RE REGULARS HERE AND YOU FUCKING BROKE WATERS HERE
Ă you got up in a rush yet he's faster
Ă everyone catches up and they all start to be frantic [ specially poor Denki ]
Ă the old lady that owns the restaurant comes by and has to be the one to calm the group while you apologize profusely
Ă she shushes you saying she's had four children, she understands completely
Ă Shinsou offers to help clean up, so do you, Izuku is startled in a corner being comforted by the brunette and Denki... he's fucking calling an ambulanceâ?????? Good thing your husband grabbed his phone before he started talking...
Ă but at the end you're both reassured everything is taken care of as long as you promise to bring the bundle of sunshine around the restaurant as soon as possible
Ă you're definitely not crying;;;
Ă anyway he just takes you home and helps you start taking note of the contraptions while getting everything ready to go
Ă honestly you were scared and so was he, but he stood by your side all the time whispering how amazing you're doing
Ă the restaurant owners greeted you like you were family afterwards so it's all water under the bridgeâ k I'll leave đ

If you asked him, Fred would say his happiest day was the day he married you. Watching you walk up the aisle in your white dress, pretty smile on your face, was a sight engrained into Fredâs memory forever.
He was irrevocably in love with you, this he knew, and that day just made him fall for you even more - his heart had beat so fast when he saw you walking towards him, looking like an angel.
He didnât think his life could get any better.
That was until the day he held his little baby girl in his arms for the first time. He felt an overwhelming feeling of adoration for the tiny infant whose whole hand could only just clasp around his finger. This little baby who depended on him so fully, his little bundle of joy wrapped in a pastel purple blanket, knitted by Molly.
He was wrapped around her finger from day one. She was a complete daddyâs girl, only settling to sleep when in her fatherâs arms, immediately stopping crying when being held by him. Often, heâd fall asleep with his baby girl laying on his chest, his hand holding her in place as she snuggled into his sweater.
Heâd take her to his shop, holding her as he spoke to customers, whilst he served them at the tills, enjoying when they asked him questions about her - about his beautiful little baby who could barely open her eyes yet, but who owned his heart completely.
By the time she was a few months old, Fred insisted they were best friends, spending as much time as he could with her, looking after her whilst you went back to work. He was almost besotted - she was his soft spot, possibly the only person besides you who could get him to do whatever they wanted.
âSay dada! Come on, Evie! Say dada! Dada!â Fred stood in front of his little girl, who was sat in her high chair, giggling at the funny faces he was pulling at her.
Sheâd been making sounds for the last couple of weeks and you were both sure she was going to start speaking soon - something you were both excited about. Fred was determined that her first word would be dada, her being so fond of him and all, and couldnât wait until she finally said it.
âBa!â The baby announced excitedly, kicking her little legs in the chair. Fred grinned at her, âYes darling, ba! But please say dada! Dada!â
At the silence, he sighed, âFine, what about mama? Can you say mama?â
âMmm?â The baby pursed her lips and blew a spit bubble at him.
âAre you trying to get her to speak again?â
Fred looked up at George, who entered the kitchen, and sighed again, âSheâs gonna do it! I swear! Sheâll say dada!â
George stepped into the babyâs eyeline and she began squirming in her seat, letting out a loud, happy squeal and banging on the tray in front of her.
She tried to point at the younger twin, who grinned at his niece and poked her cheek, making her giggle, âHello darling! Someoneâs happy to see me, arenât they?â
She opened her mouth and Fred held his breath, hoping she would speak, before shaking his head fondly as she simply hiccuped, uninterested in saying anything at all.
âThese things take time, sheâll say it eventually, you canât rush it,â George reminded his twin, who leant against the fridge, not taking his eyes off the baby.
âI know,â he glanced up at George, âI just... I canât for her to say-â
âDada!â
Fredâs eyes widened, George nearly dropping the glass heâd gotten down from the cupboard.
âDid she just-â
âShe did! My baby girl said- Oh Evie, my amazing, beautiful, smart little girl!â Fred lifted her from the chair and cradled her into his arms, âDid you say âDadaâ?â
âDada!â She cheered again.
âY/n is gonna kill you for getting her to speak whilst sheâs not here,â George said, amused.
But the words didnât register to Fred, who was too busy lifting the baby up into the air and back down again as she squealed.
As she started getting closer to being able to walk, Fred made it his mission to baby-proof your home, ensuring she couldnât hurt herself on anything. She was currently shuffling everywhere on her bottom, with the occasional attempt at holding the couch to help her stand up.
Every time she did this, you both encouraged her to try and move towards you, most of the time receiving blank stares or the occasional laugh.
This time, however, your little girl seemed more determined to move around by herself.
âCome on, come to dada!â Fred called to her with a reassuring smile. He glanced over at you, winking before his attention settled back on his daughter.
âDada!â The infant babbled, grinning at Fred, who was crouching with his arms out around a metre distance away. Her wide eyes beamed at him as she let go of the couch and made a couple of wobbly steps towards Fred, her own little arms reaching out for him, before losing her balance and falling onto her bottom just in front of her dad.
âEvie, princess! Did my clever little girl just walk?â He cooed, clapping his hands together as the baby smiled at him. He scooped his daughter up and she clapped her little fists together copying his previous actions, before letting out a giggle - Fred swore heâd never heard something so adorable.
âYouâre so smart, arenât you baby girl?â You smiled, taking the baby as she held her arms out to you.
âMama!â
Once she mastered walking, you found that you couldnât get her to sit still for anything. A ball of energy just like her father, she happily ran around the place all day, especially enjoying when Fred would take her into work with him.
âWe need to leave, come on Evie!â Fred held out her coat, watching as she crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head, âNo! Donâ wanna!â
Fred sat beside her, âWeâre going to daddyâs work though! Donât you want to come?â
Her resolve relaxed a little as she raised her eyebrows, staring up at him, âDaddy worâ?â
âYes princess, daddyâs work. And if youâre good, we could get you some ice cream before we go?â
She immediately stopped pouting, peering up at him through her dark lashes in excitement, and bouncing around in her seat, âIce âeam?â
âYes, ice cream!â Fred agreed, âShould we go?â
She nodded immediately and stood up, allowing him to put her shoes and coat on whilst she happily babbled out a story to him.
She grabbed his hand as they walked to Diagon Alley, stopping off for ice cream as promised, before she noticed the familiar orange building in the distance and suddenly let go of his hand, darting off through a couple of crowds of people.
âWait, Evie, come back!â Fred called out, dodging people, running after his toddler, who was surprisingly fast when she wanted to be.
She ran through the doors of the joke shop and found George quickly, the latter busy restocking some shelves near the entrance, a box in his hands. At the sound of the door opening, he looked over and smiled softly at the little girl who had entered.
âUnca Geowge, I got ice âeam!â She announced happily to him, holding out the ice cream cone to him and ignoring the fact that ice cream was now running down her fist.
âOh Merlin, youâve got ice cream?â He faked his shock before noticing it was everywhere but in the actual cone, âWell youâve definitely got it all over you havenât you, darling?â He left the stock where it was, placing the box he was holding on the floor, grabbing the handkerchief out of his jacket pocket and crouching down to wipe her hands and cheeks.
âThere we go, much better,â George nodded at her and she offered him a toothy grin.
âTank you, Unca Geowge.â
He laughed as he watched an out-of-breath Fred nearly fall through the shop door, âNo problem, sweetheart.â
âWhat did I say about running off, Evie?â Fred scolded her, though thankful that she had found the way to George without getting lost - he didnât want to have to explain that he lost your daughter to you.
The little girl turned to her dad and dropped her head, pouting, âNoâ to dwo it.â
Fred lifted her up and went to tell her off again, but stopped as he looked in her eyes, his face softening, âItâs okay baby, just donât do it again, alright?â
She nodded, âI wonât.â Then, she turned away in his arms and dropped her ice cream cone onto the floor, before looking back up at her dad innocently, âI done wiv ice âeam now.â
âEvie,â he sighed, before placing her down on the floor and letting her run off towards George, who hid a laugh as Fred cleaned up the floor.
âYou know what Mum would say,â George grinned, watching his brother pick up the cone and drop it into the bin beside the till counter.
Fred opened his mouth to answer, when suddenly there was a loud crash and the twins turned to where the noise came from, a stand of vials having fallen over.
Evieâs mouth was open as she pointed to the vials rolling across the floor, âOopsie!â
âKarma,â Fred groaned, before moving off to clean up again after his daughter.
Wrapped around her finger, you always said. Heâd do anything and everything his little girl asked of him, never being able to tell her ânoâ without going back on his word once he saw her trembling bottom lip or puppy eyes.
You kicked off your heels as you entered your home, glad to finally be back after a long day.
âHello?â You called out, rifling through the post that had been left on the table. You frowned when you didnât receive a response, but the sound of giggling came from upstairs and you dropped the letters back where they were, going off to find your husband and daughter.
âWhatâs going on here?â You asked as you pushed the door to Evieâs room open, placing your bag down in the hallway and entering in. Fred looked up, and you stifled a laugh, noticing that your little girl had roped him into letting her do his makeup - if the lipstick on the cheeks and bright blue eyeshadow were anything to go by - a pink feather boa hanging round his neck, along with some costume jewellery clip-on earrings, a tiara and, your favourite, a way-too-small hot pink tutu around his waist as he sat at the little table in her room.
âCanât you see, mummy?â Your daughter blinked up at you pointedly, âWeâre having a tea party! I made daddy into a princess like in the stories you read to me!â
âHe makes a very pretty princess, doesnât he sweetie?â You grinned at Fred - who winked dramatically at you - before pressing a kiss to your daughterâs head as she nodded in agreement with you.
âTea, daddy?â She asked, lifting her teapot and pouring her âteaâ into his cup without waiting for his answer. He raised the cup to his lips and stuck his pinky out, showing off the plastic rings he was also wearing.
âDelicious,â he confirmed as he placed the cup back down.
After spending nearly all their time together, Fred found it extremely difficult to say goodbye to his daughter on her first day at Hogwarts, not wanting to part from his little girl who he adored so much.
You walked along the platform, reminiscing about your own Hogwarts days, and hoping your daughter would make just as many happy memories as you watched families say goodbye to each other and friends reunite. Fred was holding her trunk, and she clutched your hand tightly.
âIâm scared,â you daughter admitted to you, looking around at all the Hogwarts students running around, laughing and boarding the train.
You lifted up the hand you were holding and pressed a kiss to her knuckles, âYouâre going to be just fine, baby. Youâre gonna have an amazing time, and probably wonât even want to come home!â
She laughed, âIâll always come home, Mum.â
You pulled her into a hug, âWeâre only an owl away, you know that.â Evie nodded, âI know.â
âGonna miss you sweetheart. Who am I supposed to prank your Mum with now? Iâve lost my partner in crime!â Fred grinned, laughing as Evie ran into his arms.
âYouâve got Uncle George,â she nodded over to where said younger twin was stood, saying goodbye to his eldest.
âDonât tell him, but I prefer you.â
Evie giggled, before grabbing her trunk from Fred and bidding you both goodbye. She took a few steps towards the train, before turning back around, dropping her trunk and running back over to you, giving you another hug, before moving back into her dadâs arms.
âI love you both so much,â she mumbled, before heading to re-pick her trunk up.
âWe love you too, princess,â Fred replied, watching as she headed towards the train. She settled into a compartment after a minute or so, and waved at you both through the window. You waved back, offering her a reassuring smile.
âIs it too late to have another one?â Fred joked, his hand snaking around your waist and sliding into your back pocket.
You slapped his arm playfully and let out a laugh, shaking your head at him. You watched the train leave, smiling sadly and waving again, before glancing at him, âWhat are we gonna do with an empty house?â
Fred winked as you began to head off the platform, âOh I have a few ideas in mind.â
The goodbyes didnât get easier each year, but the time apart was helped by the letters Evie sent to you, always keeping in touch where she could. You kept each of her letters, reading them when you missed her most.
Her latest letter held news youâd been waiting for since youâd sent her off, rushing to write her back as soon as youâd received it, and before Fred got home from work to help with the response.
âDid you read her letter? Sheâs going on a date!â He called through to you in the kitchen. The shock in his voice amused you, though you were expecting some kind of resistance to this new development in your daughterâs life.
âI know!â You replied cheerfully, stirring the food on the stove, âThe boy sounds so lovely!â
âY/n, love, I donât think you understand,â Fred frowned as he entered the kitchen, heading over to press a kiss to your lips before continuing, âOur baby girl is going on a date with some pathetic thirteen year old boy. I was a thirteen year old boy once! I know how they think!â
âHe sounds really nice! And Evie seems to really like him,â you wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed another kiss to his lips, one he returned immediately, âBesides, you asked me on a date when we were thirteen, look how weâve ended up!â
âThatâs different.â
âHow is that any different?â You laughed, shaking your head as you turned to stir the food again.
Fred pouted, wrapping his arms around your waist from behind and leaning his chin on your shoulder, âBecause thatâs my baby girl.â
âYour baby girl who is going on her first date. Itâs exciting!â You insisted, âAnd anyway, I may or may not have already written back to her saying you approve...â
Fredâs eyes widened, his mouth dropping comically, âYou did what?!â
Fred was always going to be apprehensive about any boy Evie mentioned she was dating - you assumed that much - and the day she came home for Christmas, completely upset, did not help this matter.
âIâm gonna kill him,â Fred growled, his first clenching as he thought about the no-good boyfriend - well, ex boyfriend - of his little girl, who had thought it was a good idea to break up with her just before Christmas.
âFred, no-â
âIâm gonna kill him with my bare hands.â
âFred-â You tried to calm him down, knowing that though his anger was justified, it wouldnât make Evie feel any better.
âLook at our little girl! Look what he did to her!â His face softened as he glanced into the living room at his daughter, who was curled up in the corner of the sofa, eyes closed, tears staining her cheeks.
âLook, Iâm angry too. But what she needs right now is a lot of chocolate, cuddles, and her parentsâ support. She doesnât need you yelling about the boy, okay?â You looked at him pointedly, waiting for him to nod at you. When he does, you smile at him and gesture towards the teen girl, âGo see if you can cheer her up, eh?â
âItâs what Iâm best at.â
Eventually, much to yours and Fredâs delight, Evie found a man she ended up falling for completely after she graduated from Hogwarts.
He was kind, smart, definitely charming, and you took a liking to him immediately. Fred took a little while longer, however he eventually admitted he really liked the guy, and loved how happy he made Evie.
The day he came to you both asking for Evieâs hand in marriage, you agreed without hesitation, and when your daughter came to you to show you her ring, youâd screamed in happiness and starting talking weddings immediately, bringing out catalogues and deciding on a dress together.
âYouâll do my hair and makeup, right Mum?â She had asked.
âOf course I will baby!â
You sat her on your bed on the morning of the wedding, humming as you twirled her hair into an intricate style and applied her last minute makeup touches.
âYou look beautiful, sweetheart,â you whispered, pressing your lips together as a few tears escaped your eyes.
She leaned over and wiped the tears away, pulling you into a hug, âThank you, Mum.â
She stayed with you whilst you got yourself ready, laughing about old memories, and talking about the future, about memories you were yet to make.
Youâd just finished getting dressed when Fred knocked on the door, bringing in your daughterâs wedding dress that Molly had been so kind as to alter for her.
He placed the dress down on the bed carefully, turning to look you up and down and whistling as you shook your head at him, before he turned to Evie, who was smiling up at him.
âWhen did my baby girl get so gorgeous, huh?â He grinned, leaning down to hug her.
She returned the hug with a laugh, âDad, come on, stop it! Youâre gonna make me cry, and Mum just finished helping me do my makeup.â
âI canât help it. I look at you and I still see my little girl. But youâre all grown up now, I guess youâre not so little, huh?â
Evie smiled, pulling away from the hug to look at him, âIâll always be your little girl, Dad.â
You finally ushered Fred out as you helped your daughter into her dress, adding last minute touches where needed.
âWhere did the time go, eh?â You asked her, looking at her in the mirror, âI feel like you were a baby just yesterday.â
She smiled at your reflection, âTime flies when youâre having fun, right?â
When Fred saw his daughter in her wedding dress, he swallowed, feeling how he did when he had to say goodbye to her on Platform 9 3/4 every year - it was bittersweet, knowing she was leaving, but also just knowing she was going off to live her life, and make her own happy memories, made it all worth it.
âReady to give me away?â
And as he looked down at his daughter, her excitement evident and barely fighting the grin that spread from ear to ear, he swallowed and couldnât help but smile back at her.
He nodded, âYeah, Iâm ready.â
He felt her cling onto his arm and smiled to himself softly.
No matter what, no matter where life took her, she would always be his little girl.

Every time I see Otto in these drabbles, my heart just goes⌠the dudesâŚ. when are they coming backâŚ.. is Squishy girl part of the dudesâŚ. Will Bladey allow Harry use the Squishers to get girls bc letâs not lie, Squishy will get ALL them girls! The Dudes⌠đ
The Dudes! I just don't know what you want to see with the Dudes! I do love the fast talking Otto, especially since he's not afraid to swat Harry on the back of the head. Hawwy just needs to not tawk about Otto's mom! He can dream, but he'll never take Story Baizen away from Carter.
So let's take a sneak peak of Harry meeting the squishy girl! At this time Harry, Eva, and Kira are "playing" with each other. It's not serious, but they do consider him their puppy. Squishy girl wonât officially get to be apart of the Dudes, but she will have a special bond with all of them. And Blade and Harry are taken, they donât need another one. When Ottoâs older, he may use Fable for his own Benefit, he is nearly eleven years old than her.

"Hawwy, come on,â Otto drags Harryâs hand down the hallway to where you, Blade, and Fable are. You can hear his frenzied breathing of trying to get Bladeâs best buddy to see his pride and joy.  âHawwy, move youw feet!âÂ
Itâs not that Harry doesnât want to see your baby. Heâs terrified. Just getting into something new with two females that are doing a great job of taming him, and keeping him. But he almost feels now that Blade has left him, and now theyâre in two separate places. Â
Blade turns to look at the two as soon as Otto finishes walking in. With a skip over to your lap, he bounces in it, tapping the spot next to him, so Harry can see Fable. Always being held by Blade. He claims since you held her for nine months, he gets to hold her, while you werenât feeding her. His eyes always bouncing between you and the squishy little girl that he holds. But when he sees the tears well up in Harryâs eyes, he himself gets glossy eyed.
âHawwy, come wook at hew. Sheâs beautifuw.â
Harry walks over to the couch, and sits beside Blade. He begrudgingly extends his arms over for Harry to take her but Harry shakes his head quickly. Believing he isnât good enough to hold something so pure. He does stare down and look at her.  âShe kinda looks like Story,â he chuckles.
âSeems fair, since her first looks just like Blade,â you give a kiss to the little boyâs head. Â
âJust means, youâre gonna have to have another one that looks like Blade, or you.â
Blade scoffs at Harry, âWe donât need to fix perfection. Look at her. This is it. We donât need another perfect baby. What would the world do with that much cuteness floating around?âÂ
Otto moves from your lap, over to Harryâs, his own hands reaching to hold Fable, and Blade knows what heâs doing. Extending the chunky little thing so Harry can fully look at her.  âSheâs beautiful.â
âI towd you, watch this,â Otto gives her little cheeks a squish, and she gives a sleepy little smile, that one dimple on full display, before she pops her lips, and settles back down. Leaving Otto to turn and smile at Harry.  âYou howd her.â
âI might break her, buddy.â
âNo, you wonât,â you reassure him. Your eyes getting heavy at how comfortable it feels in your home. Knowing that Blade and Otto will take care of your baby, you allow your eyes to drift closed. Only barely hearing the sweet conversations between the three boys. Â
âHewe, Iâww hewp you,â like a kid who has held a lot of babies, he slides off of Harry, and hands the baby to him.  âNow, suppowt hew neck. Thatâs vewy impowtant. If you get stwessed out, just squish hew. Thatâs what me and Bwade does. Even Papa does it.â
Blade sees a softness he wasnât aware that his friend possessed. His eyes looking all around the little baby, and he gasps when she takes his finger in her hand.  âDid you see that?â
âSuwe did. Now squish hew,â Harry looks at him odd, but gives her thigh a little squish.
âOh my gosh! Her rolls have rolls. Look at this sweet thing!â Harryâs whole demeanor changes. And when she opens her eyes to look at the bozo thatâs talking too loud, he nearly loses it again. Ahh! This is amazing. I need one.â
âNo! No, you donât need one.â
âWhy? You got one.â
âIâve been with Lo for three years. Youâve been with Kira and Eva for three months. Which one is going to make you a father?â Blade leans back thinking that heâs got his friend.
âOh, weâve done this little role...â he looks over at Otto who stares owlishly at him, and he tries to think of a more savory way to talk about this.  âAnyway, we pretended, and it wonât be Eva. So if I can convince Key. Sheâll have my baby.â
âAnd youâre going to get stuck with a girl, and have to beat the boys away with a stick.â
âOh, no! Blade, youâve got a girl. What if, I had a boy?â Blade shakes his head no.  âBut if I have a girl, I got to...youâre dad always being grumpy makes sense. He couldnât sleep. He had to deal with James and Carter their whole lives. Then Azâs string of men, including me,â Otto turns and scowls at him.  âAnd and, Lucy and her string of men, including me. Wow, I just need Iri...â Blade puts his hand over his mouth shaking his head and looking at Otto.  âI almost hit bingo. Do you think Iris and James? No, probably not but...â
âHarry,â Blade coughs.  âHand me the squishy girl. Youâre stressing me out, and I need to squish her. Â
âI want one.â
âBabysit one. You donât need one anytime soon.â
âThis puppy is going to talk his kitty cats into making one. I need a squishy thing. Like that, look at her, she doesnât cry.â
âNope,â Otto agrees.  âI know cwying babies. Awchie is a cwying baby. She doesnât cwy, she waughs aww the time though.â
âBlade, let me have one, please.â
âNot this one. Find your own.â
âFine, Iâll make one. Adios my dudes! Iâll be by tomorrow to squish on her, and I want her to lay on my chest. She looks like sheâs going to be the best cuddler.â
âShe is Hawwy. We take naps in the fwoor togethew.â

Hiiii, i was wondering if i could request some vlad king and gang orca taking care of their s/o pets. Like if the reader was out of town and asked them to take care of their dogsđđ i feel like vlad is such a good doggy dad that the dogs play together and i feel like gang orca would be lost but doing his best and if he was taking care of a cat i like to think it would love being around him because cats love fish and he would just always have his s/o cat cuddling on his lap. Im sorry for ranting lol i love your work you're doing greatđ
awwehehe this is so cute since you mentioned dogs for vlad and cats for kugo that's what i went with! also indulged myself and included kugo/ jiro/shoji content bc that seems like such a GOOD FUNNY AND WHOLESOME trio and i wanted more content than we got smhÂ
Sekijiro Kan/Vlad King: "Hey Sek, I need a huge favor.â You look up from your phone at the taller man who is currently scrunched into the corner of his couch scrutinizing a piece of paper with really terrible handwriting on it. âSounds dangerous.â He replies without looking up and you snort dropping to the cushion beside him. âOnly a little, but I think youâre good for it.â âAlright then, so whatâs the favor?â His eyes flick up to you. âI need to go visit a friend out of town.â You sigh, âshe had a baby last month, I used to work with her husband and she asked if I wanted to spend some time back home with her for her birthday next week, I should be about five days.â You rest your hands on his knees, âso while Iâm out there..would you mind watching Kilo for me? I hate to leave him behind but Itâd be a pain to travel so far with him I know he hates trains.â âThatâs a huge favor?â He raises an eyebrow at you, âsure I can watch him. I bet theyâll get along fine.â He glances at his own dog curled up under a chair. âBut only If you can figure out what the hell Monoma tried to write here.â For all intents and purposes, Kilo was a good dog, a little stupid, but a good dog nonetheless. To be honest, heâs really honored you trust him with the task, youâre the only person heâs met that seems to love your own dog as much as he loves his. Plus it also meant that Kilo had to like him a fair bit which was also a relief, as a dog owner he knew any potential partner was only as compatible with him as they were with his dog, and his dog loved you, he was sure you felt the same way, any partner that Kilo didnât get along with would be impossible for you to get along with, he found it more than a little reassuring that Kilo seemed to enjoy his company. Past all that, and maybe even most important this was a perfect opportunity to introduce the two dogs. He was sure it was no secret to you but this wasnât exactly a casual fling, with the way things were going it felt pretty inevitable that heâd ask if you wanted to move in together; but if the two didnât get along well then..thatâd be an issue. Though he was sure if things got tested out now youâd have some time to at least try to get the dogs to be comfortable with each other or hopefully think of some sort of workaround. In his eyes, this was a blessing for him as much as it was a favor to you. âAre you sure you donât mind keeping Kilo at your place?â Sekijiro is slightly embarrassed to say how early he arrived at this park, he wanted to tire his own dog out before introducing the pair, heâd advised you to do the same so you were walking to the park, you'd called him on your way. âOf course I donât mind babe.â He tosses a ball from his seat on the bench and watches his pudgy bulldog trot over to it, âitâll be easier this way, right?â âYeah thatâs true, I just donât want Kilo wrecking any of your stuff, he always means well but he gets into trouble sometimes-â âDonât worry about it, heâll be a model student by the time you get back.â He hears you laugh into the receiver at that. âI donât doubt that, Iâm almost there, Iâll see you in a few okay?â âYeah sure thing, canât wait.â You huff out another laugh at him before hanging up. âSekijiro!â You chirp brightly at the sight of the man, heâs too busy taking you in to respond. Kiloâs trotting a foot or so in front of you on his leash, that old joke about dogs looking reminiscent of their owners was certainly true in your case, you both looked delighted to see him and beyond that, you were practically glowing... Maybe he just had a thing for people who were good with animals. âHey Sek?â You lean down in front of him. âHey! He welcomes Kilo between his knees, the mixed breed was a bit larger than his dog who was currently bounding back to him with a ball and sufficient slobber hanging from his mouth, the size difference in mind though Kilo was a hell of a lot less bulky, he was practically streamlined, Sekijiro had seen how fast the dog could run with his own eyes. He could see why you took so much pride in the dog, he was definitely beautiful his coat was long, wavy, and shiny and he had big blue eyes and admittedly the cutest pink nose and spotted tongue Sekijiro had ever seen. âThanks so much again for doing this I really-â An excited bark pulls your attention downwards, âlook who it is!â You sing, crouching down to pet the panting dog, âyou sure look tired. Sekijiro is working you too hard.â You frown at him as he hops up to rest his front paws on your thighs. âDonât be ridiculous.â Sekijiro laughs, âbut he is worn out, I guess Kilo is too though.â Kiloâs head is on his knee, the larger dog is panting too. They seem to notice each other, and approach with a lazy curiosity. They sniff around each other for a bit but after that return to their respective activities, seemingly unbothered by each other and the proximity of the other dog to their owner. Kilo didnât mind your cooing at Vladâs dog who didnât seem to mind Kiloâs head in his owner's lap. With that little bit of reassurance, you hand him Kiloâs leash and a bag of his stuff; food dish, some toys and treats and the like, and then you part ways after promising to call him when you get to your home town safely. All in all the coming days are pretty uneventful, Kilo joins them on their daily walks, eats at the same time with no trouble, finds a comfortable place to sleep each night. âIs Kilo alright?â Your voice is nervous in the receiver. âHeâs better than babe, seriously theyâre getting along great.â âGod thatâs such a relief.â You sigh, âthe pictures youâve sent are cute..gosh I miss him.â You pout a little. âGee I miss you too babe.â He mutters it with a playful edge to his voice and you gasp, âI was going to say I miss you too but forget it!â âdonât be mean!â He complains back, âI was kidding! And anyway I miss you. Howâs it been out there?â You go off on your usual tangents before ending up back at square one. âOh! I called you for a reason actually!â You remember, âIâll be a little bit late getting back on Sunday, one of the trains is going to be down so Iâm taking a later one, I should be back around midnight now would you mind-â âOf course not babe, Iâll get you from the station so-â âNo no! Itâs okay youâve already done so much thatâs not what I was going to ask! I just wanted to be sure you wouldnât mind keeping Kilo around for the extra time...I can get a taxi, seriously donât wait up for me!â âWell just come to my place when you get back right?â âI wouldnât wanna wake you up-â âItâs been way too long since I saw you last, so I donât mind, if you wonât let me pick you up from the station at least come right here.â âYouâre convincing.â You laugh a little, embarrassment heating up your face, âI guess thatâs fine with me then...â A distant sounding voice pulls you away from the receiver, âSek I have to go, Iâll call you again soon though!â âDonât worry about anything babe.â He reassures you as you hang up. There is one minor spat over a rope toy but itâs resolved easily enough and the pair seem to get on swimmingly after that, even sharing a couch cushion and occasionally resting their heads on each other, they become incredibly fast friends, which is probably the biggest relief on the planet to Sekijiro. Watching the two of them play tug of war in his living room or witnessing their schemes to get leftovers off the counter on Thursday night essentially cement his vision of a future with you. If you were being totally honest it was embarrassing how attractive you found Sekijiro getting along with your dog to be, youâd never got the obsession of handsome guys holding cute babies but seeing some of the photos heâd sent to you over the almost 6 days you were gone made butterflies crop up in your stomach the likes of which youâd only felt when he was actively trying to fluster you...but this seemed totally unintentional. To say you were incredibly eager to go home and see him (jump his bones) felt like an understatement. Itâs past midnight when you get back and the place is mostly dark, you see a vaguely bulldog shaped blob partially under a blanket on the couch, but the snoring it emits gives away itâs identity easily. You leave your bag at the door and venture into the apartment, poking your nose into the bedroom. Of course, Sekijiro is there, dead asleep on his back, and whoâs with him but Kilo, his head resting on the blood heroâs chest one of his hands resting on top of it. âOh Vlad-â You coo, you practically sing it at him. âWha-whatsitwhat-â He rubs his face as he picks his head up, âoh, hey welcome back âs good to see you, missed you-â âYouâre so sweet-â Youâre already at the side of his bed, leaning down and kissing him. âWhatâs-â Sekijiro takes a minute to process everything before he realizes itâs Kiloâs head on his chest making you act like this. âOh no way, heâs been a total angel-â âIâm so glad he likes you so much-â You murmur it between kisses, to his lips and various other spots on his cheeks and jaw, âyou guys are adorable together.â âIâm glad you think so-â He cuts himself off with a yawn and turns into your lips, kissing you again before speaking, âyou werenât kidding about that late train huh? Itâs almost 1 AM, you must be exhausted, thereâs plenty of room for you in here so come on.âÂ
Kugo Sakamata/Gang Orca: âHey, Kugo...â You approach him from behind and wrap your arms around his shoulders, leaning against the back of the chair heâs sat in. âYes?â One hand comes up to cover your forearm the other stays dutifully at work. âYou love me, right?â You rest your head against his and he pricks up at the inquisition. âOf course I do, why would you ask a question like that? Is something wrong?â The way his hand subtly squeezes your arm isnât lost on you. âHmm..no nothing's wrong.â You lean into him and close your eyes as he sighs good-naturedly. âThen what? Did you just want to hear me say it?â He leans back into you, âI guess I could entertain that...â His thumb swipes a long stroke over the skin of your forearm, âI love you, dear.â He can feel you prickle up at that behind him. âI love you too Kugo.â You squeeze him tighter and he huffs out a quiet laugh. âIâm glad to hear it. Now is that all you needed?â He puts his pen down to bring his other hand up to your arms, âIâm a bit busy. Youâre welcome to stay there if you like though I just need to finish some paperwork and make a few phone calls. After that, we can do whatever you like for the night.â âWell, now that you mention it there was just one more thing. Iâll be fast I promise.â Your hand slides underneath his lapel and into his jacket. âDonât worry I can make a bit of time for you then, whatâs the matter?â You make eye contact with him through his darkened computer screen. âMy boss invited me to this big conference next week, itâs a pretty great opportunity and I could meet some important people..â You explain, biting your lip, âit could be really good for me to branch out even she thinks so, and getting some more experience will be great, and itâs pretty close to my hometown so I figured I'd stop in and see some old friends after I got done..Itâd be about 5 or so days and Iâd really like to go.â You sigh and he seems more than a little confused based on his reflection.  âThat does sound like a great opportunity for you, youâre right..whatâs the problem then? Do you need advice about something?â His confusion doesnât quell even as you kiss his temple. âI probably will later but for now the problem is Luna.â âYour cat?â Kugo piques, âwhy is she a problem?â You sigh, âif Iâm not around no one will be there to feed her and make sure she stays out of trouble.â âOh is that it? Thatâs no problem at all dear, I can look after her for you. Is that what you were going to ask me?â âYou donât mind?â You perk up, âI donât want to trouble you...and I know I could just as easily leave a key under my mat and have a neighbor do it but I trust you so much more and-â âItâs no trouble, really.â Kugo laughs a little, "I pass by your apartment all the time on patrols, Iâm sure the interns won't mind if I make a stop and head up to check on her every now and again.â âOh! You can totally bring them up if they like cats!â He laughs at that too. âWas that all?â âMhm.â You nod and use the motion to nestle into him a bit, âThank you Kugo.â âItâs really my pleasure. Leave it to me, alright?â All things considered, Kugoâs also pretty honored to be trusted with the task of watching your pet cat, he knows how much you love and worry about her, you dote on her all the time, and if the copious amount of photos you send him of her say anything sheâs definitely your pride and joy. For the most part, you spent the bulk of your time with Kugo at his own home, due largely to the fact that he was larger than average and he existed a fair bit more comfortably there, but he paid you visits in your apartment from time to time and had met the cat, she seemed to like him plenty which was a relief as well. You stop at Kugoâs before you leave and give him a list of things to double-check when he stops in, though you reassure him that there shouldnât be any problems, Luna was pretty independent and mellow she didnât like going outside so he didnât have to worry about her escaping or anything like that. He tries to stop in at least 3 times a day, before, during, and after patrols, he knows thatâs probably overkill, you spend all day at work and have never had an issue but he hates the idea of something happening to the feline on his watch. Plus even if he wouldnât readily admit it he saw this as a perfect time to get on the cat's good side, you said she already loved him but he wasnât convinced. He knew how much you loved her and any vision of your future that he had always featured the mellow feline so in his mind it was imperative they got on well. On top of that, he was glad you trusted him with something as small and delicate as Luna, she fits pretty comfortably in his hand and was as fragile as she was petit, but you never seemed off-put by the idea of him holding her or petting her, in fact, you encouraged it. The way you even wanted him near her when you werenât around to supervise put him at ease about his strength and size, he always worried about breaking delicate things, but that wasnât a worry you seemed to echo. âIs something going on in that building?â Shoji looks up at your complex as he pauses by it, âyouâre stopping here a lot since yesterday.â âHuh? Oh. Actually no... well nothing of importance to you. Iâm...catsitting.â Jiro holds her breath the hold in the laugh, âCatsitting?â  âYes...my partner is away at a work conference, the cat in question is theirs.â Kugo nods, âif you like cats you can come up and meet her, sheâs actually quite friendly.â  Kugo was pretty used to Luna at this juncture, but whenever other people met her it was easy to see why you were so proud of her, she was quite the stunning cat, a long dark grey and black coat with big green eyes and a swishing tail, her paws were colored as if she was wearing boots. âWow...sheâs really pretty, Iâve never seen a cat like this.â Jiro was crouched on the ground, stroking her neck. âI was surprised too.â Kugo confesses, âthey found her in a box on the side of the road about a year before we met. She was only a kitten then. Her nameâs Luna.â She seemed to like the pair equally alternating between them, rubbing against their legs and shuffling her head into their palms. âShe is very friendly.â Shoji remarks as she purrs at him, attempting to climb into his lap. âSheâs good at getting into trouble, but she usually means well. You can stay with her for a minute.â He sets off to double-check the usual; food, water, litterbox, the loose window that sheâs always wiggling open despite having no desire to climb out of it, he waters a few plants and straightens up anything she knocked over as well. When he returns she's overturned on Shojiâs lap. âYouâre getting along well.â He swipes a pillow sheâd knocked over up and replaces it on the couch. âSheâs really sweet!â Jiro is scratching her stomach. âIâm glad to hear it.â  âHey..sorry if this is too personal or whatever but I didnât know you were.. dating someone... We didnât snoop or anything though!â She swears, holding both hands up, the cat looks disgruntled at the loss of attention. âItâs alright I trust you.â Kugo waves her off, âLuna looks too comfortable anyways, youâve clearly been petting her this whole time.â He adds with a small chuckle. At the sound of her name, she rolls over and winds around his feet, circling through his ankles and pawing at his pants until he lifts her up. âTo answer you though yes I am seeing someone.â He holds Luna with one hand, his ring and middle finger scratching the patch of grey fur on her chest. âAre they a hero too?â She wonders, straightening up. âNo...no theyâre not, Iâm not very public about this sort of thing.â Shoji contemplates that, âthey have a nice apartment.â âThat is true, itâs a good job, and they do have a pretty keen eye for decoratingâ He agrees, looking around amicably. âHave you guys been together for a long time?â Jiro blurts out before feeling color float up to her cheeks, âsorry I donât mean to be rude... I just never pictured you like this I guess Iâm curious-â âItâs okay, most people donât, and yes, weâve been together a while now.â Kugo raises a hand to calm her, âbut like I said before Iâm not very public about things like this which is why you wouldnât have heard..though either way, even when we do go out together... most people donât assume I do that sort of thing, and to be frank, we arenât the most...visually compatible pair..â He says that with a distinct fondness in his voice and then continues, âlike you said, you donât really picture me in this sort of light, most people donât so hero gossip tabloids tend to leave me alone for the most part, I get a fair bit of freedom when it comes to this sort of thing because of that. There are probably plenty of photos of us together out there, though people usually assume theyâre my manager or a secretary or just a friend.â Luna is purring loudly in his hand, her body largely slack against his chest. He walks her over to the couch and sets her down, which she warbles angrily at, âto be honest though I prefer it this way. Iâm a private person.â âThat makes sense...well, their cat sure likes you.â Shoji points and Kugo chuckles. âIâm fond of her myself.â Kugo admits, âeverything is as it should be here so we can head out again, sorry for the tangent.â He scratches Lunaâs neck and sighs, âas for you Iâll be back tonight. So try to behave until then, for my sake alright?â Jiro tries not to laugh at the sight. âI didnât think youâd actually bring them up! Did they like her?â You sound delighted about it over the phone that night. âI may have knocked a few intimidation points off of myself, but yes they thought she was cute.â He was sitting with her, contemplating staying the night here. He was embarrassed to say it but this was the longest youâd spent apart in a while and despite any appearances, he had gone soft and was starting to miss you, being around your stuff was nice even if he didnât fit too well in your bed. âI donât think youâre very intimidating at all.â You peep back thoughtlessly. âWell, Iâd sure hope not.â He chuckles and leans against the couch, âsheâs been good too I was,..expecting her to break more.â Truthfully Kugo wasnât sure what he was expecting, he never had pets growing up and hero work didnât give much free time to consider one, it took a day to get comfortable with her, and even now he was watching his every step for her. âIâm glad to hear that!â You laugh, âsheâs a pretty great cat isn't she?â âI have to agree..â Kugo wouldnât mind having her around all the time, the longer he sat on your couch and contemplated it the more he realized he wouldn't mind having the both of you around all the time. Was this some sort of emotional sign to ask you to stay with him? Heâd give that more thought at a later date. âKugo are you listening?â âOf course I am.â He was not. You donât seem perturbed though, chuckling and then sighing fondly, âIâm gonna go shower then call it a night, I miss you two though.â Kugo looks down at the cat on his lap and he nods, âwe miss you too. Iâll be up for a bit longer so call or text me if you need anything.â âYou shouldnât stay up so late Kugo itâs bad for you-â âI know, I know, Iâll turn over a new leaf when you get back.â âSure you will.â You snort, âI love you Kugo.â âI love you too, Iâll see you soon.â You wanted to see Kugo first thing when you got back but you were so exhausted that you canât help sulking to your own place, things had gone well enough but all the commotion and travel really drained you. You were sure it wasnât anything spending some time or even a night with Kugo couldnât fix though. When you shoulder your door open though thereâs Kugo, sitting on your couch. âKugo, youâre here?â Heâs holding some papers in one hand, the other is holding Lunaâs back, keeping her against his chest. âI was just checking in on her but every time I tried to leave she started..making a weird noise.â âWeird like how?â You chuckle, suddenly feeling much better. âSort of like screaming. But cat-like. I sat down and she clawed her way up here, then fell asleep and almost fell off, but I caught her and she hasnât moved since.â âAnd... how long ago was that?â âWhat time is it?â âHalf-past 6.â â2 hours ago. I didnât want to wake her.â âKugo.â You laugh and sit beside him, âyouâre so sweet.â You wrap both of your arms around one of his and lean into his shoulder, âI missed you so much.â âI missed you too.â Kugo sets the papers down on the pile by the arm of the couch, âIt's sort of embarrassing but I even stayed here a few nights because of it. I canât remember the last time I went even 2 days without seeing you.â He appreciates the way you seem to melt into him at that. âThatâs not embarrassing itâs sweet, youâre so cute Kugo...â You lean up and kiss him, âsuch a big softie arenât you?â A soft hum is his reply as you pull away, âwas she any trouble? Be honest.â âI was worried at first that Iâd screw it up somehow but it went fine.â He confesses as he lifts the cat off his chest and sheâs sleepy and limp in his big hand, purring contentedly. âShe was acting up the 2nd day but I think she was just confused about not seeing you. Then she got used to me and was alright.â âThatâs cute..â You yawn and clamber onto his lap, âgod all that traveling tired me out...youâve been stuck here for 2 hours but I might have to trap you a little longer to take a catnap of my own. I think Lunaâs onto something...â You nestle into his shoulder, grateful to feel his arms come around you. âDonât worry about me.â He hums as Luna curls up in the sliver of space between your bodies, âI just want to finish reading over some things. Then I'll bring you both to bed.â âYouâll stay tonight?â You yawn again and he hums, you can tell heâs smiling even though you canât see him. âWould you like me to?â You nod into his shoulder, âyeah, I would...â âAlright then I will. Now go to sleep, you need it.âÂ

Barbie Bell
Pairing: Micah Bell x GN!reader
Notes: Micah needs a new shirt and struggles to find a new one - my contribution to Barbie Bell :)
(photo is mine - donât reupload without credit :)) & this is my last Micah photo Iâve been too lazy to upload them atm XD
Micah had been expecting a parcel for weeks now, from the tailor in Blackwater. His old red shirt, the well-loved one he wore all the time, had finally worn too thin, showing everything under it and was irreversibly stained with blood. Even Miss Grimshaw, under Micah's pleading looks, had tried to scrub it clean, but after wearing it for months he'd decided to order a new one.Â
Micah being Micah, he obviously couldn't do anything by halves; no he wanted the exact shirt again, so you and him went hunting around the local tailors trying to find a replacement. But wherever you went he'd find something wrong with an alternative.
âCan't you see, these buttons aren't good enough-â
âNo, no, this is not the right red,â
âIt's too long and my old one had a nicer collar,âÂ
You'd even taken the train over to Strawberry to check the general store there, in a last ditch attempt to find it. But whichever tailor you had asked, they all said they didn't have an exact copy of it, yet Micah was adamant he'd find one. While you knew if you told him where he'd be able to find it, he'd run over there, unfortunately the large bounty on his head stopped him from returning from the Blackwater tailors alive.Â
So, he'd opted for ordering it, as you often did with your clothes; you hated nothing more than sitting in a tailor, you'd rather have to stitch it to fit you instead. A few weeks ago, the both of you sat by the campfire, measuring him correctly and writing a letter to the Blackwater tailor, signed as a certain Mr Kilgore. When you first went to run one of the tape measures the girls used for sewing across the back of his shoulder, he had tensed up, saying he could guess well enough until Susan yelled across camp that he was an idiot, and suddenly, he didn't mind it, intimidated by the older woman.Â
You'd never seen Micah so excited, once the letter had been posted he was positively beaming, buzzing about the prospect of his new shirt. The pair of you had said it needed to be red, and attached an old photo of him wearing the shirt for reference, reassuring him that the tailor just needed to see the style of the shirt, it wouldn't matter if it faded. Once you'd exited the post office, Micah looped his hand in yours, something he never did, walking back through Saint Denis with an unusual skip in his step; even going as far as to buy the both of your food in the salon.Â
And here it was, he'd been avidly visiting the post office for weeks since the tailor replied he'd do his best, becoming a nuisance to the station clerk. It was wrapped carefully in brown paper, and you had to stop him from ripping it open in the station itself, he was far too excited. Micah was fidgeting the entire ride back to camp, knowing he would want to try it on right away, so you kept it on your lap, swatting his hands away as you rode.Â
âRight, go open it then,â you said when you got to camp, passing him the parcel carefully. His face lit up, and he snatched the parcel from you, disappearing into the house to get changed.Â
Micah took a while to change, you anticipated he'd be out quickly, happy with the new shirt, but he didn't; and after nearly twenty minutes you knocked tentatively on the room he was changing in.Â
âYou alright in there?â you asked, creaking open the door a little to look at him. He was stood on the opposite side of the room, no shirt on, looking down at the opened package on the floor in front of him as he read a note. Hesitantly, you entered the room, shutting the door behind you and walking over to him. As you approached, he looked up at you, looking deflated and upset about something, and you didn't have the chance to look at the contents of the package before he'd pulled you to him and buried his head in the crook of your neck.Â
Wrapping your arms comfortingly around him, you hushed him, feeling the side of your neck getting damp from his silent tears of disappointment. Wondering what was so bad, you looked over his shoulder, shuffling, so you could see the ripped parcel on the floor. Spilling out of it was a hot pink shirt, nothing like the red he'd tried to describe. While he was upset, you couldn't contain your laughter, knowing his childish excitement about what it would look like.Â
â'm being stupid ain't I?â he said, moving out of your embrace and wiping the tears from his eyes when he saw you looking at him. You shook your head briefly in reassurance.Â
âWhat did the note say?â you asked, reaching to try to grab it from his hands.
âThey didn't do the red no more, so he sent the next best. 'm sorry darlin, it's not like me-â he rambled, showing you the note. Clear as day, the tailor had written his apologies, and had given Micah a small discount on the price, and yet Micah â the feared outlaw â was stood here, tears trickling from the corners of his eyes in disappointment.Â
âHow about ya try it? Can't be that bad, right?â you said, pulling it from the wrapping and holding it up to him. Smiling weakly, he took in from you, pulling it on while you watched.Â
You felt awful for him, this was all he'd spoken about for weeks now, and, like a child, had been devastated when it had not lived up to his expectations. And of course, you were sympathetic, but also you'd tried to warn him not to get his hopes up, that nothing is ever perfect, and yet he chose to ignore you still. His hands were almost at the final button, having to take breaks to wipe his eyes or blow his nose.
Once it was on, you stood back and admired hm for a moment. You knew he wouldn't like it, but you thought the pink suited him well, bringing out the life in his cheeks and making his hair seem that little blonder.Â
âWell?â you asked, indicating for him to spin.Â
âIt ain't what I wanted-â he started, spinning willingly for you.
â-but?â you probed further, approaching him and straightening the shirt for him.
âI ain't mad at it,â he shrugged, pressing a light kiss on your forehead. âYou reckon the gang'll laugh?â It was your turn to shrug, smiling a little at his concerned look.
âIf they do, then they do, nothing you can do 'bout it,â you said, moving closer to him. âBut I-â you pressed a kiss on his collarbone, â-think you look-â a kiss placed on his jaw, âgoddamed handsome Mr Bell,â a kiss on his lips, which he deepened immediately, grinning madly into the kiss.
âYou really think so?â he sounded doubtful as he leant his forehead on yours as your hands ran themselves through the clean fabric.Â
âI know so Micah,â you said, âNow shut up and kiss me again,â
Micah was only too happy to oblige, grabbing you by your waist and bruising your lips onto his, making you squeal slightly in shock, not that you were complaining.Â
He wore the shirt around camp nearly as much as his old red one, and sure, at first, there had been teasing, asking if he was in fancy dress, but eventually the gang got used to it. In fact, you caught Lenny wearing pink socks a few weeks later, and Hosea began to favour pinker neck ties. And Micah, confiding this in complete secrecy to you, had said he had considered ordering another one, he loved the colour so much. Nothing had made you happier than the first time you saw him wear the shirt on a job, even if it did come back stained again, just the fact that he'd put in the effort because he knew you liked the shirt was enough.Â

Miraculous escape - Chapter 1
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 |
I wasnât planning to post this yet, but itâs Lukadrien June and today prompt is âescapeâ and, even if itâs only Lukadrien friendship (bc itâs Lukanette & Adrigami endgame), it fit so well that I couldnât stop myself from posting this. Chapter 1 and the final chapter have been finished for months, but I donât know when Iâm going to continue with the rest...Â
This fic is based / inspired by Marilyn Monroeâs âSome like it hotâ film.
Thank you @alittleshycat for the header and wanted posters pic! ( I hope youâre doing well... I miss you... đĽşđ )
Thank you @brickercupmasterx3â for proofreading! đ
Summary:
Luka helps Adrien escape from his prison-like house and his strict father but Gabriel Agreste is not planning to let them go away easily. They become fugitives and ask Juleka for help, who offers them a very unconventional escape plan: joining a girl band/orchestra to flee the country.
Easier said than done, especially when they find something unexpected in that band: the two most beautiful women they've ever seen.
Warning: includes art

Chapter 1: Fugitives
"My father is going to kill me."
"Your father is going to kill us."
One carrying a guitar on his back, and the other a piano keyboard case on his hand, two musicians were being chased by multiple cars around Paris. Turning corners, going up and downstairs, hiding behind trash containers and cars, the chase seemed far from an end anytime soon. Panting for air, the pair continued running after they turned the corner, just in time not to be seen- Â a close call. The loud sirens never seemed to stop, coming from all directions.
"I can't believe I finally escaped from home!", the young blond man exclaimed excitedly. "Thanks, Luka. I wouldn't have made it without your help. You're a real friend."
"Don't mention it, Adrien. That's what friends are for, right?", the blue haired man laughed and patted his back. "It would have been perfect if we hadn't broken half of your father's statue collection while escaping your bodyguards, though. Now he's gonna kill us for sure. We can't let them catch us!"
"We need to run away from Paris. And fast! My father is the devil itself! You don't want to know..."
"I don't!"
Jumping down a wall, and turning another corner, the two friends hid in the back of a funeral car and waited until the police sirens got further away. They had been scolded for being disrespectful with the dead, but it was worth it: they were safe- at least for now.
"We need to leave the city and find a place to stay. Knowing your father, he must have all stations, roads and airports under his control." Luka said, stopping Adrien from crossing the street to firstly check their surroundings.
"How are we going to do it? Our car became 'inoperative' during the chase and our friends and family must be monitored!"
Adrien's panic made Luka grab his shoulders to reassure him of their plans.
"No, look. They know you, but they don't know much about me. Not many people know I have a sister who lives here, in Paris."
"You do?"
"Yes. We need to make it to her apartment and then weâll figure out how to proceed. Are you ready to run again?"
"More than ready. I'm excited!" Adrien grinned back at Luka, feeling an adrenaline rush.
"Let's go!"
__________________
When Juleka opened the door of her apartment, she wasn't expecting to meet her dumbass older brother and Adrien Agreste, the young man who had been on the news non-stop for the last two hours. She raised one eyebrow and Luka knew she was looking for a reason not to shut the door on their faces.
"Juleka! We need your help! We have to get out of the city. Could you lend us your car?"
"What the heck is wrong with you!? It's been two years and that's all you have to say? What kind of trouble are you involved in now? This flower boy has been in the news for hours! They are even offering a reward for whoever finds him! And one for you! A dead or alive one in your case! They're saying you kidnapped him! So you better have a good explanation or I'm kicking you out."
"I do, I do! Listen: remember dad? I know you were little, but do you remember what being trapped is? That's this man's, Adrien's, everyday life for you. I couldn't bear to see my friend like that anymore so I offered to help him escape" Juleka's eyebrow sank deeper towards her nose, meaning Luka knew that wasn't good news. "I had to help him get his freedom! Can you believe he has never had a burger? Or been to a drive through? He can't even drive a car! He literally crashed my car at a streetlight after mistaking the gas and brake pedals! Have some compassion and help us escape Paris. Please?" he finished, pleadingly.
Juleka's eyes moved to analyze Adrien before answering: blond rich guy, well dressed and innocent looking. The way he was trying to figure out her front door and how his green eyes curiously examined his surroundings made him look like a playful cat, and Juleka had no doubt that he was as dumb, or probably dumber, than her older brother. Which meant Jukeka wanted them out, but also that she couldn't refuse to help- otherwise they would surely not make it out alive.
"Fine. What do you need?" She resigned.
"A car or anything that takes us away from Paris! No, better! Out of the country!"
Adrien was still examining Juleka's old and untidy room when she noticed his eyes paused on a paper on the table. She knew that paper: a girl band/orchestra called "Miraculous" was looking to recruit experienced musicians to perform around Italy for three weeks. Suddenly, she knew what to do.
"Join that girl band, the one in the pamphlet", Juleka suggested, pointing at said paper.
"What? A girl band? We're men, Jules! We can't join a girl band!"
"Luka is right!" Adrien quickly agreed.
"No, it can be done. I'm good with makeup and I'm tall enough for my clothes to fit Adrien. We can use some of Mom's clothes for you. âOld styleâ. Oh, and I have some wigs too.â Juleka continued. "Can this blondie play any instrument?"
"Well, yes. He's a pianist," Luka answered.
"Perfect! I'll find a way for you to cover for the pianist and the guitarist of the band: Chloe and Lila. Nobody likes them anyway, and the band members probably don't even remember their faces well, since they joined recently. Nobody will miss them. And it's perfect that you're blond, just like Chloe. I have the perfect wig for you"
Juleka disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a pair of scissors, two wigs and a box of makeup- oh, and wax. The two male friends could feel cold sweat down their backs.
"Wow, you have such a pretty face!" Juleka exclaimed, taking a closer look at Adrien's facial features. "I'll cut your bangs a bit so they don't show under your wig. Luka: do yourself a favor and go shave meanwhile."
"Are you serious about this, Jules?" Luka asked, moving towards the bathroom sink.
"Of course I am", she glared confidently at him. "Do you want to flee the country or not? I'm getting you out, but you need to trust me."
"Is this really necessary" Adrien asked in a trembling voice, seeing how Juleka's scissors were close to his eyes as she was cutting his long bangs.
"It definitely is! The band orchestra is leaving midday tomorrow and we have a lot to do!" Juleka ordered. "I can't wait to wax those hairy legs of yours" she murmured. Adrien could only gasp in fear.
When Juleka finished, she was proud of her results. The disguises were perfect: a long blond wig on Adrien, tied as a long braid, his big green eyes standing out with the mascara on his lashes, and he had pink colored cheeks and cherry lips. His face and hair were perfectly complemented by a white dress to his knees and a short jacket over his shoulders, covering his strong forearms. He also used some pads to simulate not very large breasts. The final touch was a pair of elegant high-heels with diamond looking glass studs on them. He looked beautiful, prettier than many women. So pretty the Couffaine siblings blushed a little at the sight.
As for Luka⌠well, he was tall, big and manly, and with sharp features: definitely not easy to pass him as a woman. But Juleka was almost a professional and she did an incredible job. He had his hair cut short so his blue hair didn't show under the long dark haired wig - good for covering his wide muscular back. He was advised to wear a hat and sunglasses most of the time, but he was also wearing lots of makeup. Using a full palette of skin tones, Juleka managed to hide his strong jawline and make his cheekbones, chin and nose look smaller and rounder. He wore black eyeshadow and mascara, brownish red lipstick and natural blush. He looked like an unfeminine lady but that could pass as genetics, right? People would maybe look away, but they would understand. As for his clothes: he wore a long wide purple dress tied with a belt and some brown pirate-like high boots (the only ones that would fit him because they belonged to himself). The bottom half of his outfit was complemented by a grey knit poncho. His fake breasts were bigger than Adrien's and he wore a wine red scarf to cover his neck- especially his pronounced adam's apple. He looked⌠pretty good, considering the base product. And that alone was an amazing accomplishment.
"You're perfect. Ready to go. I've packed a pair of party dresses too. You'll need them for your performances" Juleka said, admiring her amazing work. "Oh, and just so you know. I'm also part of the band, so I'm coming too."
Later that night, just before sunrise, Juleka sneaked to Chloe and Lila's apartment to steal their accreditations and sent them fake cards about the train being delayed so they wouldn't appear at the last moment and ruin everything. Juleka smirked victoriously for having at last taken her revenge on the two women she hated the most.
___________________________________________
After nervously passing the first frontier of the train station- the ticket man, Luka and Adrien, who were disguised as women, moved towards the platform, happy for not having been recognized after the first control. Adrien had trouble walking in heels, so Luka lent him his arm to help him keep his balance.
"Remember: your name is Chloe now, and my name is Lila", Luka reminded his friend as they walked towards the train platform.
"I don't like those names", Adrien complained.
"I don't like them either, but itâs better that we don't stand out". Luka sighed.
Grabbing their baggage and instruments, the two men approached the train car written on the ticket. They were stopped before they could get on the train- just next to one of their 'wanted' posters. The two men didn't notice it, but Juleka did and rushed them to get on the train fast.
"Hey, who are you?" Asked a middle aged woman, the one in charge of the band, they assumed. "I've never seen you before. Are you new?"
"I- I'm Adri- My name is Noiretteâ, Adrien said, receiving equally surprised and annoyed glares from both Luka and Juleka. Before Luka could speak, Adrien continued. âAnd she's Lucia. We're the new pianist and guitarist of the band".
âWhat. the. heck?â Luka couldnât believe his friend as he stared at him in annoyance and shock. His high pitched voice acting was hurting Luka's ears too. 'We're dead', he thought.
The middle aged woman showed orchestra at Adrienâs words: she clearly didnât like last minute changes. Scanning them under her glasses, she questioned them again. "What happened to Miss Chloe Bourgeois and Miss Lila Rossi?"
While the two men were taking too much to come up with an excuse, Juleka, who was sick of their bad acting, stepped into the conversation.
"The talent agency sent them somewhere else. These two are here to fill in for them."
Still unconvinced, she raised her glasses. "Hmmm... you know them, Juleka?"
"They come from the same talent agency as me", Lukaâs sister confidently said.
"Hmmm... that should be enough then..." It seemed like she was convinced at last and the two men could finally breathe. âI'm the band's director. You can call me Madam Mendeleiev. And that man over there is Mister Damocles, the manager. You can introduce yourselves later. Go to your seats now.â Before they could take a first step, the middle aged woman stopped them again and called for someone. "Yves! Come here and carry these ladiesâ instruments to the train! Be useful for once!"
Luka and Adrien exchanged looks when a young blond man approached them quickly. "Yes, Madam!" He shouted, approaching the disguised men to get their instruments. He stopped in front of them, intensely staring at Lukaâs pupils before trying to complete his job.
"Oh. Hello, there. XY at your service! Can I help you, beautiful? Fancy a drink sometime?" He raised his eyebrows twice, shamelessly flirting.
Luka's face went white in disgust. Juleka's chuckle and Adrien's big eyes made him snap out of it.
"Oh, Just carry this, thank you!" Luka answered, annoyed, as he shoved his and Adrienâs instruments and suitcases into XYâs arms, making the blond man lose balance from the pile of weight on his arms. âAnd take good care of them because theyâre⌠fragileâ
"A- As you wish, beauti- Ah!âŚ" He stumbled, losing his balance and almost falling down. âBut later that drink-â
"Yves!! Stop the crap and do your job!" Mendeleiev scolded him.
"Yes, Madam!" He straightened his back. "See you around", he winked at Luka before leaving, having trouble walking properly. The guitarist could feel shivers all over his body, while Juleka snorted, having real trouble trying to hold her laugh in.
"C'mon, hurry up!" Juleka pressured them, adding in a whisper "you better not expose yourselves before leaving."
"Thank you for saving us, Juleka." Luka whispered to her ear while getting on the train.
"You better stop acting stupid if you don't want to get caught!" Her response showed her annoyance and the men gulped in response.
The seats were arranged in pairs, so the two fugitives could sit together and relax a bit. They were also grateful for the lack of contact needed with the rest of the band.
The âMiraculous bandâ was a dancing orchestra. Similar to a big band, but with vocals, a spectacular stage and completely fine for all ages to enjoy. In this case, its main particularity was how it was formed only by women. The band formation included: a rhythmic section (electric bass, electric guitar, drums and electronic piano), a wind section (saxophones, trumpets and trombones) and two singers. Many of the members were usually multi-disciplined in those bands, which meant they could play more than one instrument, just like Luka with the Lyre. Some of the side instruments were the violin, the flute, the maracas or the tambourine. Another particularity of these kinds of bands was the big range of styles in their repertoire: from rock and popular national or international hits to swings, waltz, salsa- anything that could be danced to. Â
If it weren't for the all girls' rule, Adrien and Luka wouldn't have minded joining them for real. But they had something more important to think about now- running for their lives.
"Is everyone here?", Mendeleiev asked, standing at the train car passage.
"Marinette and Kagami are not here yet, Madam" A dark skinned, red haired lady pointed out.
"Those two again⌠if they weren't so talented and popular I would have fired them already!"
"There they come!' A small blond short-haired lady screamed, startling Juleka in the process. "Sorry! I didn't want to startle you. My name is Rose" she introduced herself.
"JulekaâŚ" and that's all she could say as she lost herself in that petit woman's eyes.
"What do you play?", the little woman innocently asked. "I play the trombone!"
"The electric bassâŚ" she answered, hiding her blush. âCute, sweet and with lungs of steel?â Juleka gulped. âIâm screwedâ.
"Finally!" Madam Mendeleiev said, as the ladies arrived, panting from their run there. "You're late! Go to your seats quickly!"
The two ladies who got in the train, bowed their heads in apology for their tardiness, as they walked to the empty seats of the back of the car. And when their faces looked up for a moment, it was the exact moment Adrien and Luka reached heaven. Their eyes couldn't stop staring at the most beautiful ladies they had ever seen, following them with their eyes and faces as they passed just beside them, moving to sit a few rows to the back. They couldn't take their eyes off them until Juleka called for their attention, warning for their discretion. But it was too late: the boys had lovestruck grins on their faces that didn't plan to go away anytime soon.
The two ladies had black hair and asian features. The short haired one was taller, had brown eyes and wore a beautiful white blazer with a red skirt. She looked elegant and confident, while the other woman looked cute, clumsy and innocent, and was shorter. She had blue eyes and dressed in a pink coat. Her hair was long and tied in two curly twin-tails. Their beauty stood out even more when they were together.
When the train started moving, Madam Mendeleiev gave the girl band some instructions- something Luka and Adrien would ask Juleka what it was about later. Later, Rose suggested an introduction game for the new members after the explanation had ended. The ladies excitedly agreed.
"I start!" said the same blond girl. "My name is Rose Lavillant and I play the trombone! I studied at a conservatoire in Paris for 3 years before joining this band recently. I like pink and unicorns and my favorite food is strawberry shortcake. Nice to meet you!"
After a round of applause, Rose signaled Juleka to continue, and she passively proceeded. "I'm Juleka. Bassist. Nice to meet you"
Next to continue was the red-haired woman from earlier, Alya, flautist and trumpeter; the drummer, Mylene; another trumpeter, Alix; and one of the saxophonists, Sabrina. It was Adrien's turn next.
"Hello!" He started, with his high-pitched voice. "My name is Ad-" he paused for a second at Juleka's deathly glare, gulping once before continuing. "My name is Noirette. I play the piano! I'm from Paris Classical School and I'm very pleased to meet you all!" He squealed, moving his arms along.
Adrien's excitement for freedom and new experiences was contagious to the rest of the ladies who energetically (almost hysterically) responded "Nice to meet you too, Noirette!".
It was Luka's turn next. He gulped, nervous, and with his fake high pitched voice and under Juleka's death stare, he started.
"Hi... My name is Lu- Lucia". 'I'm killing Adrien for giving me that name' he thought. "I play the guitar. Nice to meet you"
With their introductions over, Juleka finally relaxed. The rest of the ladies' introductions followed but, to be honest, neither Luka nor Adrien were listening: they were just patiently waiting to know more about the ladies that captivated their hearts. Their turn finally arrived, and the short haired one started:
"Hello. My name is Kagami. I sing and play the violin. I've been in the band for a few weeks. My favorite color is red and my favorite food is katsudon. Nice to meet you" a silence followed Kagami's introduction, so she called for her partner's attention with her elbow. "Marinette, your turn!"
"Oh-! Sorry⌠I was distracted⌠He-ello⌠My name is Ma- Ma- Marinette! I'm a singer but I can also play side instruments like the tambourine, the maracas or the castanets. I've been in this band for a few weeks and I studied in Paris Music School. My favorite color is pink and my favorite food is macarons. It's nice to meet you-", she ended with a nervous high-pitched voice.
Luka and Adrien exchanged excited lovestruck grins: the ladies' names and voices were just as beautiful as their faces. They were going to enjoy their outing with the band better than they could have expected.
______________________________
When the car got loud from the ladies chit-chat, Luka and Adrien found their moment of peace to share their thoughts.
âLuka, did you see that?â Adrien started, signaling at the end of the car, towards the singers of the band.
âYesâŚI saw.â Luka answered, with a lovestruck grin on his face.
âThat beautiful faceâŚâ, Adrien continued.
âSweet voiceâŚâ, Luka added.
âAsian featuresâŚâ, their mumbles continued.
âDazzling eyesâŚâ
âDark shiny silky hairâŚâ
The two men reacted at their exchanged words and looked at each other, surprised and nervous. Adrien gulped, worried.
âWait- who are you talking about?â
âWho are YOU talking about?â Luka threw his question back at him, slightly aggressively.
âThat girl, Kagami, of course!â Adrien exclaimed as if it was the most obvious response.
âOh, that's good. I was talking about Marinette.â Luka sighed and showed him a relieved smile.
âOh...â Adrien blinked, sighing and smiling in relief too. âI'm glad we weren't talking about the same girl. I wouldn't have liked to steal a girl from you.â
âWhat makes you think I wouldn't win her over you?â, Luka confidently grinned.
âOh- anyway- It's better this way.â
The two men laughed together, trying not to be too loud for their manly voices to destroy their cover-ups.
âWill you help me with Kagami?â Adrien asked his friend.
âOnly if you help me with Marinette.â said Luka, offering him a handshake he excitedly returned.
âCount on it, my friend!â

From the ground up
Alright yâall, a little switch up from the normally scheduled 10 things programming. But this is 8 pages of fluff that was requested based on the Dan + Shay song From the Ground Up.
This is also very inspired by my grandparents who knew each other for 85 years, were married for 66, had 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and currently 10 great grandchildren, so hereâs also their story, but it fits with the song, so why not?
Hope you like it! ______________________
Five Years Old
The snow was falling, all the neighborhood boys were gathering in his front yard to start playing. You two had always been friends, meeting when you were three years old and in the same preschool class. You watched from your bedroom window as the boys started throwing snowballs at each other, something you loved doing with your younger brother. You put on all the winter clothing you can find, running downstairs to beg your mom to go across the street to the Jostâs house to play with the boys.Â
âHave fun sweetie!â your mom calls once you finally wear her down and convince her that youâll come in as soon as she calls you in for dinner.
Running as fast as your legs can carry you, more and more children aggregating in their yard, it was an all out war between the guys and girls, snowballs flying. The girls were getting pelted, you coming in and throwing snowballs left and right at any boy who stood in your way. One by one, they surrender, until you were the last one standing. You were the almighty five year old, the winner of the snowball fight.Â
Someone taps you on the shoulder. You turn around to see who it is only to be met with a snowball to the face. The boys around you were laughing as Tyson stood in front of you with a smirk. You wipe the snow off, staring at him for a minute while the girls stayed silent behind you. The snow was still following, a crown of water droplets forming on around his face as the melted snow clinged to his hair. It wasnât a crush yet, because you didnât know what that was. But it was something.Â
The next thing you know, youâve tackled him down in the snow, grabbing some off the ground and shoving it back in his face. The kids gather around the two of you, watching Tyson struggle to push you off of him, not succeeding until you hear your mom calling your name from across the street.
âBye, Tyson!â you jump up, running back inside, leaving all the rest of the kids standing there, looking at Tysonâs wet hair, cold red face, and snow covered back while he watched you run and disappear behind your front door.Â
 Seventeen Years Old
âWhat do you mean thatâs when you knew?â you ask him, his laugh coming through the other end of the phone.
âAny girl who wasnât afraid of beating up a guy who was bigger than her and actually does it well is the girl for me,â he says, referencing the snowball fight all those years ago. âYou didnât care what other guys thought of you: you got hit unfairly and I paid the consequence.â
âWell, yeah, you think I was going to let you get away with that? Also, we were the same size, you were pretty small thenâ you tease him. âItâs so corny that you fell in love with me when we were five years old.â
âWhat can I say? Iâm a hopeless romantic when it comes to you,â he says, âThereâs no one who I would want to be with other than you. The distance thing doesnât even seem like itâs going to be bad knowing that youâre the one Iâm doing it with.â
You feel your insides flutter at his words, wishing that he was there with you now. You two had been together for as long as your moms let you date, spending every moment together that you could. He was your best friend first, your boyfriend second, your forever third. âHow are you feeling about going to North Dakota in a few months?â you ask him.
He lets out a long, slightly shaky sigh, âExcited? Nervous?â he tells you, his voice going up at the end of each, âTerrified.âÂ
âItâs a new experience, thatâs natural,â you try to reassure him. âYouâve never really done this sort of thing before.â
âArenât you nervous about going all the way to Massachusetts?âÂ
Part of you was, part of you wasnât. You were scared to be away from Tyson, but part of you knew that you would always find your way back to each other, even with the distance between Chestnut Hill and Grand Forks. âAbout being that far away from home? No, not really.â
âWhat about being that far away from me?â you hear him squeak out on the other end, barely loud enough for you to really hear the pain that was in his voice.
âIâm not nervous,â you whisper, wishing you could be there with him to physically comfort him, âWeâre going to be just fine.â
âHow do you know?â
You take a deep breath, knowing that he was going to cry a little if he werenât already. âWe have been best friends since I beat you up that day. No matter what, youâre going to be my best friend. No matter what, Iâm going to love you. I donât care if youâre at UND and Iâm at BC. You could go to Sweden and I could end up in New Zealand and I will still always love you.â
You hear him laugh a little, a sniffle followed immediately after. You didnât need to see his face to know that his nose was red, the goofy grin of his trying to hide the fear that would surely be covering his face.Â
âHey, meet me by the gazebo in thirty minutes, ok?â he finally says after what felt like forever sitting there in silence.
âSure,â you tell him, your phone beeping as a signal that he had hung up. You had no idea what he had planned, but you did as you were told, grabbing your jacket and making your way to meet Tyson. You get there to find him pacing back and forth under the moonlight that was shining down on him. âHey, babe,â you say, him pulling you in tight for a kiss.Â
Even though it was summer, the night time brought a cool breeze that sent a shiver through your body even with the jacket on. Tyson takes off his jacket, his favorite one with his name on his back, handing it to you, a smile on his face as he watched you pull it over your head. âSo, what are we doing here?â
âThis is going to sound crazy,â he starts, knowing that would concern you a little, âbut hear me out first. Youâre confident that weâll stay together even being in North Dakota and Massachusetts, but I want to put in stone. Or, I guess, wood,â he says, gesturing to the gazebo.Â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âPeople carve their initials in the wood here all the time. Why donât we do that, too?âÂ
You smile at him, bending down next to him to watch him carve TJ + YFI/YLI enclosed in a crude heart, next to others that had looked like they had been there for years. âI wonder who all these people are?â you ask, carefully tracing your finger over one that said MR+MD. âI wonder if theyâre all still together.â
âDonât matter,â Tyson shrugs, looking at the way the moonlight dances off your skin, âWeâre still together, and I have a feeling weâre going to last.âÂ
 Eighteen Years Old
Tyson had no idea you would be there. The College Hockey Showdown was that weekend at Madison Square Garden, the Boston College Eagles playing against the North Dakota Fighting Eagles. One of your roommates was from a small town in southern Connecticut, half an hour outside of the city, so you convinced her to go with you and spend the weekend down there instead of driving the four hours back to Chestnut Hill after the game.Â
âSo, which one is he?â Julie asks as the guys skated onto the ice.Â
You were in the only section that led you to be surrounded by a sea of maroon and gold, feeling weirdly out of place not wearing team colors but the jacket Tyson gave you that night at the gazebo, which you ended up stealing from him, instead. âNumber 17, the curly-haired one,â you point to him as he talks with one of his teammates, his helmet off, making it much easier to see his face.
Tyson had been telling you how nervous the team was about this game: Brock was injured, Trevor was two days shy of a 730 day scoring drought, and the team hadnât beaten Boston College in 11 years. Not to mention, UND and BC were the two winningest college programs since the 06-07 season, UND having a slight edge over BC, putting that much more pressure on the guys to win this game to help make the gap a little wider. Tyson only rambled off stats about the other team when he was worried about a game against them. It was the first time you would ever be rooting against the college team you had come to love, and only because it involved the boy you love.Â
âDoes he know youâre here?â she asks you, trying to figure out why he wasnât looking up in the stands for you. When you shake your head no, she picks you up out of your seat, annoying the other Boston College fans while the ones behind you got a good look at the four letters scrawled across your back. âTyson!â she starts screaming, shaking you in hopes that you would join in with her.
You roll your eyes, knowing that he would be able to hear his name being called once you joined in. You were waiting to see the look on his face when he finally realized you were at the game, so you scream along with her. He hears his name, confused as to where itâs coming from. He looks around the arena, taking what felt like forever to find you. His jaw drops when he sees you, a smile on his face as he frantically waves back at you. He nudges his teammate next to him, pointing up to you. You couldnât tell what he was saying, but from the joy that covered his face he was excited that you would get to see him play.Â
The first period goes by, no scoring, not much of anything. The second period was starting, and the blank score on both sides was making you nervous. One of Tysonâs teammates passed him the puck, Tyson taking the opportunity to shoot and scoring his sixth goal of the year. The Garden went crazy, you and Julie the only two in the small section of Boston College fans joining most of the crowd, Tyson pointing right up to you when he skated to the bench. UND went on the power play, his teammate passing him the puck again. At the dot, he fired it past the BC goalie, putting his team up 2-0.
You were overjoyed by Tysonâs game, getting to see him be named first star of the game that UND won 4-3. You manage to sneak your way down to where the boys are, Tyson somehow convincing someone who worked there to let you in once you gave them your name. You saw Tyson giving an interview, the guys passing by him and patting him on the shoulders while he talked. You didnât hear what they asked him, but you could help but admire him. âThatâs part of hockey. Thereâs going to be momentum swings. We really had to bounce back, but that just shows our character in our team. Weâre all warriors in there and I think we proved it tonight.â
The reporter leaves, Tyson turning towards him. He was sweaty, disgusting, smelly, and all of that combined wasnât enough to stop you from running into his arms as he picked you up in his arms and kissed you for the first time since the day you left. âI canât believe youâre here!â he practically screams when he puts you down, kissing you again.Â
âI wanted to surprise you,â you tell him as he goes on about how excited he was that you were there.Â
âI think youâre a good luck charm,â he says, leading you out of the way from some of the other guys walking around the hallway and plopping you down on the floor. âHey, Iâve been thinking,â he starts, his voice shaking.
You knew he was nervous by the sound of his voice. You gently squeeze his hand, the smile on his face growing bigger, âYeah?â
âWhen you graduate, wherever Iâm playing, or even if Iâm not, I wanna be living with you.â
âAre you asking me to move in with you after graduation?â you ask him, his sweaty curls moving with his head. âYou think weâll still be together in three and a half years?âÂ
He swallows, looking down at your hands intertwined, sitting on his thigh, âI canât imagine my life any other way. Itâs written on the ground of the gazebo.âÂ
 Twenty Two Years Old
You and Tyson were going home for the wedding of one of your cousins. You had been living together for a year now in Colorado, Tyson enjoying his fourth season in the league.
âHey, can we make a quick pit stop before we head to the reception?â Tyson asks you when you get into the car. Your cousins, Lisa and Brendan get in the back seat, Tyson being deemed the designated driver for the night. You swear you see them smile at each other before looking back at the two of you.
âYeah, sure, is that alright with you guys?â you ask them, making eye contact through the rearview mirror. They both nod, the four of you talking about the ceremony the entire way to wherever Tyson was taking you. His hands were shaking like he was nervous.
You pull into the park that was down the street from where you grew up. âCome on,â he says, rushing around the car to open the door for you and drag you through the grounds. Lisa and Brendan follow, keeping their distance as Tyson sprinted towards the gazebo.Â
âWe havenât been here since that night before we left for college,â you observe, looking out over the water that surrounded part of the structure. âDo you think our initials are still here?â you ask him, turning around to find him already on the ground.Â
âYeah, right here,â he says, tracing his finger over your initials. He reaches up to pull you down next to him. âDid I ever tell you that my mom's best friend carved hers and her boyfriend's initials here, too?âÂ
âNo, do you know which oneâs they are?â
He points to the ones by your knees, the same ones you had admired the night Tyson carved you there, MR and MD. âMatthias and Marianne. Theyâre probably the happiest couple Iâve ever seen.âÂ
You stand back up, not wanting so much of your dress to be on the ground. You look for Lisa and Brendan, who are nowhere in sight. âHey, where did-â you start, only to be cut off but what you saw in front of you.Â
Tyson shifted himself to one knee, a small box in his hands with the most gorgeous ring you had ever seen. âI know itâs kind of shitty to be doing this the day of someone else's wedding, but this is the only time I knew we would be here where we first promised to be with each other forever,â he says. You can feel tears welling up in your eyes, suddenly thankful that you had brought makeup with you in your bag for touch ups. âYou told me that night that no matter where in the world we were, we would always be together. I want to be together forever. I want to grow old with you, have a family with you, be the father to your children that I never got and be the man your dad always wanted you to end up with. I want to hold you close, protect you, love you. I want to be your husband. Y/N, will you marry me?â he asks, the tears falling down your face.Â
You shake your head yes, unable to let out more than a happy sob as he slips the ring on your finger, finally hearing Lisa and Brendan screaming as you take Tysons face in your hands and kiss him.Â
 Twenty Four Years Old
You stood in the pink room, trying to rock your little girl to sleep. Tyson should be home at any minute from the road trip, but Viviana had been fussy the entire day. All you wanted was for her to go to sleep so you could go to sleep.
âIâm home,â you hear Tyson call from the doorway of your house, praying that he doesnât come in yelling while you cradle your ten-month-old daughter in your arms. He appears in the doorway to her room, dropping his bag and tip-toeing up to you. He rubs your arms, kissing you on the cheek before pulling you close to him. He rests his chin on your shoulder, looking down at Viviana. âCan you believe how big sheâs gotten?â he whispers to you as she finally nods off to sleep.Â
You lay her down in her crib, Tyson standing back and admiring how gentle you were with her. He hugs you from behind again, the two of you taking a moment to just look at your daughter. You lead him out of the room, closing her door carefully. âShe is so beautiful,â you gush about your daughter even though she was the reason you were perpetually exhuasted.
Tyson hugs you, finally getting the chance to kiss you hello. âShe takes after you. The room, though, is very pink.â You canât help but laugh at the same observation he makes whenever he goes into her room. As soon as you found out you were having a girl, Tyson went overboard, buying every dress he could, little bows, cute socks, anything that looked like it was made for a girl, regardless of color or if it actually conformed to the gender construct, he bought, or convinced his teammates to buy for him so you couldnât get mad at him for coming home with yet another Avalanche related baby item.Â
âI was nine months pregnant when you painted that, you know itâs your fault.â The two of you go to your own bedroom, you ready to crawl in bed even though it was the middle of the afternoon. âIf she wakes up, can you take care of her?â you ask him, climbing under the sheets.Â
âYeah, but before you go to sleep, I think we need to talk.â You look at him, knowing that sentence typically comes with bad news, but Tysonâs face said otherwise. âI know Viviana isnât even a year old yet, and I know we said we would wait until she was, but I think Iâm ready to try for another kid now,â he says, âOnly if you are, too, of course.âÂ
You look away from him, a picture of you and him looking down at Viviana right after she was born sitting in the frame on your bedside table. You knew Tyson wanted a big family, you wanted one with him. It was an easy decision: âCan we wait until after I get some sleep?âÂ
The smile on his face grows, excited that you were going to be trying for a bigger family. He plants a soft, sweet kiss on your head as you gently fall to sleep.
 Thirty Four Years Old
âViviana Abigale, come down here!â you call to the birthday girl as your friends and family started showing up at your house. âTyson, I think Cale and Gabe are here,â you say to your husband, hearing voices of his teammates carrying through your house indicating that Tyson had left the front door open for anyone to just walk in.Â
You hear your kids running through the house, three sets of feet pounding against the floor as everyone started to show up with gifts and more food.Â
It was Viviâs tenth birthday, and Tyson insisted that you have a party to celebrate your oldest child turning double-digits. Part of you thought he just wanted to show off the house now that it was finally put back together after you had it redone, but he did more of the work in preparing. You were worried that would mean having a similar party with Alexander turned ten in two years, or when Jimmy did in four. Anything to have a party to celebrate your family, Tyson was the first to suggest you make it happen.Â
Soon, your house and yard were filled with everyone you loved, laughing, eating, the kids playing. You watched as Alexander chased Jimmy with one of the hockey sticks Tysonâs mom had kept from when he was little. Tyson must have seen the anxious look on your face, âDonât worry, he wonât do anything. Alexander is harmless.â You both laugh as he hands you a glass of wine, you swirling around in the glass instead of taking a sip.Â
âWant to go inside?â you ask him, taking his hand. You set the class down on the counter, Tyson showing a look of confusion by the untouched glass. You lead him to the wall underneath the stairs, looking at all the pictures that were there. The latest school pictures of your three children, a picture of you and Tyson on your wedding day, a picture of the two of you that your mom took when you went to the school dance together when you were in your first year of high school. âGod, do you remember that night?â
âI only remember what I was wearing because of that picture and that I wanted to dance only with you,â he says, wrapping his arms around you.
âYou were fourteen, thereâs no way thatâs what you were thinking of,â you tease him. âYou danced with me once that night and spent the rest of the night leaning against the wall with the rest of the boys.â
âI didnât want to embarrass myself in front of you!â he argues back, his face turning red with the embarrassment he didnât want.
You laugh, giving him a quick kiss, âI beat you up when we were five. Nothing you could do in front of me could be more embarrassing than that.âÂ
The two of you stand there for a little while longer, staring at the pictures that were on the wall of your family. âHey, Tys?â
âYeah?â
âWhen we first got married, how many kids did you think we would have?âÂ
He stops and thinks, knowing that he never explicitly told you, letting you decide how many you ultimately had. âI always wanted four.â
âAre you mad that we only have three?â
He looks at you. âMad? Of course not.â How could he be mad that you gave him the three most beautiful children he could have asked for. They looked more like you than they did like him, but they definitely had his childish antics down to a t.Â
âWould you be mad if we had a fourth?â
âAgain, of course not,â he says, confused by what you were trying to say. You smile at him, it finally clicking. âYouâre-?â he starts, unable to figure out how to express his joy with words. You nod, him pulling you in for a tight hug. âHoly shit!â he screams, âHoly shit, are you serious?â
âThere are children, Tys!â you say, laughing as you cover his mouth.Â
âWeâre having another kid,â he says, his eyes lighting up.Â
âWeâre having another kid.â
 Fifty One Years Old
âLucas!â you call to your youngest son, knowing he was the only other person in the house with you. You were trying to make dinner, one of Tysonâs favorite meals for his birthday.
âYeah, Mom?â your sixteen year old says, not looking up from his phone as he walks into the kitchen.
Your hands were covered with raw meat, mixing everything up to prepare the stuffed burgers. âCan you run to the store and get me another onion?â
Lucas groans, in a typical teenage fashion. âDad is already at the store getting you basil, canât you just call him to get it?â
âNo, because this is his phone,â you tell him, hitting the screen with your elbow so it doesnât lock on you since thatâs where the recipe is. âAnd it was parsley. The keys are by the door, thereâs cash in my wallet, and yes I expect the receipt and know how much I had to start with,â you say to him.
He rolls his eyes at you, leaving for the store anyway. Lucas drives to the store, muttering to himself that you would send him out when Dad was already there. He laughs as he pulls in next to Dadâs car, knowing that he was bound to run into him while he was there. He wanders through the store, not looking for the onion in the slightest in hopes to find his father and tell him to get it so he can get home and go back to the game he was on with his friends.Â
Lucas finds Tyson in the spice aisle, standing there with two small bottles in his hands, one parsley, one basil. âShe wanted parsley,â he says, startling his dad.Â
âI couldnât remember what she said, so thank god you came,â he says, putting the basil back. âWhat did she send you to get?â
âAn onion.â The two of them walk through the store, back to the produce that Lucas had already passed in hopes of getting out of there faster. âHey, Dad?â
âYeah, bud?â he asks, examining the pile of onions as he tried to figure out which one would be the one his wife would pick.Â
âMom has already sent you here four times this week, and now me twice. Why do you put up with it?â he asks, clearly annoyed.
Tyson laughs, picking up one of the onions and heading to check out. âI would do anything for her, no matter how ridiculous or how many times she asks me to do it.â He looks at his youngest son, the only one who looked more like him than you, âOne day, hopefully, youâre going to find someone who you love more than anything on this Earth, and you would do anything in the world to make sure that they stay happy. This is part of what keeps your mother happy, so how could I not do it?â
 Eighty Eight Years Old
You look around from the head table, Tysonâs hand in yours as your entire family has overtaken the restaurant. Viviana and her husband had picked you up at your house, telling you that she was taking out to her home for an anniversary dinner. You were instead taken to your favorite restaurant, greeted but your children, your grandchildren, your brother and his family, Kacey and her family, everyone you cared about.
You sit there, listening to your children and some of your grandchildren talk about what it means to be in love. âDad would drop everything if Mom asked him to do something. There was nothing too ridiculous that she could ask of him.â
âGrowing up, it was the stolen looks, Dad looking at Mom with love filling his eyes and her not noticing, or Mom doing the same to Dad, neither of them ever looking at the same time.â
âLook around at everyone here: love between two people creates love between more. We wouldnât be here today if it werenât for you.âÂ
Sixty five years.
Four children.
Thirteen grandchildren.
Currently five great grandchildren, two more on the way in a few months.
The perfect life, the perfect husband.Â
