Looking up at her mother, Viserra paused a moment in eating her meal to look up at her. Viserra never once had a day in her life when she didn't feel like she could tell her mother something. Her mother had always fostered that.

She furrowed her brow together, before nodding curiously at the question she had asked. There was confusion in her gaze, but she wanted to now why he mother would ask a question like that.

"Of course mother." Her small voice mentioned across the table. Every so often they would have meals like this, where they could sit down just mother and daughter. She valued her time that she got to spend with her mother just the two of them. She looked down at her meal and pushed the contents of the plate around slightly.

"Why do you ask this?" Her small and dainty voice finally said as she looked up at her. Now there was a look of worry in her lilac eyes. Since the death of her Grandsire, things had been less than ideal, though they were still waiting on word back from Luke from Stormsend. Daemon had already declared that Viserra wasn't to leave Dragonstone for her own safety. "Do you think something might be wrong?"

He hadn't seen that type of anger in his mother in his entire life. His mother had always been a pillar of composure in his eyes. Even as a small boy when they still lived in King's Landing and she received jeers from her step mother, the Queen, she always had a level of composure. Refusing to crack under the pressure. But both of them had not considered the possibility of this happening. Not until it was staring them in the face.

In truth, he had regretted how he had spoken to his mother. He never spoke to her like that but the moment he heard that Luke was gone, and was told what happened. An anger burned in him that frightened him when he felt it. Enough had been enough. This was no longer rumors being spread through a castle. This was no longer jokes about pigs and petty passive aggressive toasts. This was something that there was no going back from.

Jace kept thinking about how he could have kept Luke safe, if he had been the one to go to Stormsend. "Vermax may have been able to outrun her." He muttered finally, after a long and tense silence fell over the room. "I'm the better flyer. I could have gotten away if he had-" He choked on a sob he had been trying to hold in. One he had been attempting to keep from falling. He failed as his shoulders folded in on himself.

   Anger. She recognized the fire lit behind her son’s eyes. A raging flame that only a dragon could withstand. How else could he have taken the news? How else could he have reacted to hearing of his brother’s slaughter? Had it been under different circumstances, he would never have spoken to her that way, she knew. But it was not different circumstances. And whatever composure she had mustered to meet her eldest son when he returned to Dragonstone began to crumble.

   ” Do you think I am taking this lightly?“ Her words came out snapping, harsh. Not what she had intended, but she couldn’t back down from it now. Her own anger clawed its way to the surface. "Do I appear to be content in your eyes? Do you think I am unaffected because I have not yet burned down King’s Landing?” With every word spoken, her voice grew louder and more caustic  than she had ever been with Jacaerys, or any of her children for that matter. She regretted it as it left her lips but that regret would not take the lead in this encounter. There would be time for remorse later.

She could see the attempted, and failed smiled from her mother. All her life, one thing that could be said for sure about her mother, was Rhaenyra knew how to put on a brave face when she needed to for her children. Perhaps that had been why Viserra was so sheltered, and thus so sweet and delicate as her uncle so commonly put it. She had a dragon, most Targaryen's did, but she had shown to be anything but fierce. It made her feel like she wasn't an actual dragon sometimes.

She knew a mother always worried. It was hard to ignore the worry in her mother's eyes whenever one of the children would do something reckless. Something dangerous. But this was something different. Her mother was waiting for some sort of ball to drop on all of them, and everyone in the family was on edge about it, and could feel the stresses.

"I'm sure everything will feel better when Luke gets back with news from Storms end, and Jace from Winterfell." She tried to casually reassure her mother that everything would blow over, though it shown clear in her eyes that there was still some worry there.

After a moment of silence between the two of them, she looked up to gaze upon her mother once again. Being crowned her heir had been the obvious choice. She was the eldest and the only one of her children who took on the Targaryen traits, but she felt like anything but someone brave enough to be Queen one day. It didn't mean she didn't want to be. But there was a hesitance there, timidness perhaps.

"Would you?" She finally asked looking across the table? "Tell me if there was something wrong?"

Oh, Rhaenyra thought— felt— that something was very wrong. The princess—no, queen, now— found it difficult to enjoy this dinner with her daughter. In such a short time, she had lost her father, she had lost her child, and potentially, she would be losing her throne. And, by extension, Viserra's throne. Perhaps it was the toll all of that was taking on her, giving her no time to process the emotions that were building in her heart like a storm.

Yet she had managed to ask her daughter such a question gently, as she might any other time they would eat together ignoring the strain in her voice. Cooked roots remained untouched on her fork. Forlorn eyes found it difficult to meet the eyes of her daughter. Her only daughter. Her first born and heir. Rhaenyra managed only a twitch of her lips rather than a full smile.

" A mother worries," she admitted. Viserra was a gentle soul, and Rhaenyra worried how much the expectations might have been weighing on her shoulders. Not only that, but whatever grief she might be feeling over such loss in the family. Especially now, when the threat of a war between dragons loomed over them. She worried for her sons who had taken to dragonback for her and took off to the north. Lucerys was only to go as far as Storm's End. He should have returned by now. "Much is uncertain at this moment, and I..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "Forgive me. I shouldn't make our moments together so solemn."

Ok! I get all the love old book by choices - Bolas, Endless Summer, more that I unfortunately have not yet gotten to

But a relatively new book made just a year ago is by far worthy of more recognition

Guinevere by Choices Pixelberry

The only way I was able to even look in its direction was because of a dear friends recommendation ( @the-realmsdelight ). I am SHOCKED. There hasn't been more love and praise for this book that it DESERVES!

It's a new take on the legend of the Lancelot and Guinevere AND Arthur / Artura

This book is so unbelievably beautiful! It definitely has what so many old choices fans love, which is STORY! If you have not checked it out, I HIGHLY recommend it!
