god it feels so cheap (though i don't feel that way abt other people saying similar) and i really don't know what i feel about "this is when artists get to work!" (reminds me of 2016's "art/comedy/punk is gonna be so cool under trump") but with my anger burnt off into sadness for the moment... i gotta say i'd really like to keep making art. i am old, disabled, and have been trans for so long, i have no connection to family and for most of my life i've struggled to walk back from the ledge. whatever political criticisms i've had, and will have, come from a deep, complex place, just as it must for you. i really don't think i'm stupid or thoughtless or evil for maybe differing from your own feelings or actions by what i'm certain is a very narrow margin. most of us— at least most of the people i know and respect— are in some way vulnerable and suffering, and it's unbearable how many people i Don't know are suffering in conditions i can and profoundly cannot fathom. there is work beyond art to do, certainly. obviously. personally, i want to want to live, and atm (and most of the time) i don't know how to do that other than through art. i want to honour the life/lives that've always been intimately viscerally real to me, freakish, sick, perverted, difficult, complicated, and often unseen and unaccounted for. and, honour and imagine lives as of yet unattained. it's my tether, my language, and i hope it always brings me closer rather than pushes me further away. to you, even. that was true before and it's true now.

anyway, please take care of yourself and each other. no it's not okay, grief and disappointment are well-warranted. but please don't ignore the massive amounts of people— and the very small ones— who are fighting as hard as they can. more will follow and join in because they already were, many have been learning and are ready and willing to try. idt i'm the person you need to hear this from, but i really do believe these things.

It didn’t matter how long or short you were apart, Simon always brought something back for you

After each and every one of his deployments, though all you ever asked for was for him to return to you in one piece, he would find you a small souvenir, a token, a postcard, or some sort of little trinket from whichever corner of the glove he found himself in this time, keeping it near and dear to him until his feet were back on familiar ground and he could put it in your familiar hands

You had told him that it wasn’t necessary, but when he simply blinked and ask you if it made you happy, your reply was an instantaneous ‘yes’, to which he replied ‘then yes, it is necessary’

You loved and treasured all of them, multiple shelves throughout your shared flat adorned with the items that reminded you of the fact that he was always being reminded of you wherever he went

It didn’t take very long for Simon to become enamoured with your reactions each time he presented you with his newest find, wondering if whatever he picked out would make you gasp and cover your mouth, make you roll your eyes and smirk, make you laugh and squeeze his arm, each time was a guessing game that had his heart skipping a beat or two in anticipation

Soon enough, he decided he didn’t really need deployments as an excuse to surprise you, or any reason really, other than to see you smile

And so, trips to the supermarket made by Simon alone more often than not began including cupcakes in your favourite flavour

He’d come back from the mailbox and drop a single flower from someone else’s garden onto the table in front of you

Your nearly finished perfumes and lipsticks would magically find themselves replenished

But being Simon, his gifts didn’t always need to be extravagant

On the rarer occasions when he was only on base for a day, he’d often bring you back something simpler, if not sillier, like a paper clip or a sticky note with a terribly drawn doodle he’d stick to your forehead (god forbid he ever bring home a bullet casing, bragging about how he was thinking about you while he practiced shooting loads today-)

Sometimes he’d bring home a book he saw laying around the common room he thought you might enjoy

Other times he might walk into a room and notice you eyeing the hoodie he’s wearing, pulling it over his head without hesitation and offering it to you before you could even think to ask

Most of the time though, Simon was great at bringing home takeaway for dinner, a favourite sight of yours to behold as he walked through the door of the flat

Empty handed or not, so long as he was home with you , you were happy

So team natsu never really had an official name right? (Ik they are sometimes called the strongest team but be fr nobody is calling them that) I think generally people refer to them as "team *whoever they know the best from the group* (ie, levy calls them team Lucy). However, in my head people around the world and in the guild have started referring to them with a wide array of nicknames that somehow none of the actual team has gotten wind of yet

it’s so crazy to me that nico’s “final attempt at getting percy to like him” is a gift/thing that has literally nothing to do with what percy as a person would’ve liked to see from nico

like nico getting him to the styx and telling him to get in is the pinnacle of nico seeing percy as a warrior or hero above all else

in hoo nico talks abt finding percy cheesy and goofy (talking abt traits other than being a hero) but above all else he will always be a hero to nico which he again shows by talking abt how strong percy is when he falls into tartarus

on the other side in tlo when annabeth is also in a kind of last ditch effort to prove herself she does exactly what shows percy that she’s literally it LMAO

she takes a dagger for him (even tho he’s like why tf wld you do that) she literally mirrors his fatal flaw back at him showing deathly and devoted loyalty like he has many times to her

and when their in tartarus and either one of them is getting beaten down they don’t talk abt fighting or winning they talk abt the future and abt living a full life (one outside of being hero’s)

mini dedication essay to black simmers and ts4 creators below! pls read if you have the chance! <3

this edit is a small homage to afrofuturism and the various unique black hairstyles (and especially the black creators of most of these hairs) that i have downloaded and admired over the years! some of these are old and some of these are new.

to me, afrofuturism means constantly honoring/reclaiming/challenging the past while constantly creating/dreaming of a better society/world/future. a society/world/future that embraces and empowers all of our differences, ingenuity, aspirations, and unique lived/cultural experiences. a society/world/future that does not limit us through the various systems of marginalization and oppression (racism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, classism, colorism, etc.) that often affects how we, as black people, live today.

blackness is so diverse and intricate yet it's always been a struggle to find my culture within a game that's known for being so limiting, bland, and extremely eurocentric when it comes to hairstyles, clothing, food traditions/events, etc. black simmers have always had to figure out how to make this game more inclusive and make it resemble either more like how our ancestors lived, how our current lives are, or how we would want our lives (and even our children's lives) to look like in the future no matter how dystopian the real world look and feel now. fortunately, these hairs and their uniqueness bring a huge sense of culture and style to this game. they have always inspired me and made me feel extremely proud to a part of the lovely african diaspora (and the ever-growing black simmer community).

in a way, being a black simmer and cc creator usually means that we are often digitally creating our own worlds as afrofuturists to varying degrees (whether we know it or not) every time we open our game, make our sims, make houses, and/or make black cultural cc. also, now i know that cc making is not easy to do and is extremely time-consuming so this post is also just me giving all black cc creators especially those who create for free their well-deserved flowers! here are some other black cc creators who created cc that have greatly impacted my game since i first started playing sims 4: @/leeleesims1 @/simtric @/hi-land @/yuyulie @/sims4bradshaw @/ebonixsims @/xmiramira @/sheabuttyr @/qwertysims @/oplerims @/sleepingsims @/shespeakssimlish and so many more im forgetting probably (im too shy rn to tag ppl but i greatly appreciate y’all fr i hope y’all telepathically get this message somehow 😭).
