On her fingers, Chicago’s Chief Sustainability Officer Angela Tovar counted the city buildings that will soon source all of their power from renewable energy: O’Hare International Airport, Midway International Airport, City Hall.
[Note: This is an even huger deal than it sounds like. Chicago O'Hare International Airport is, as of 2023, the 9th busiest airport in the world.]
Chicago’s real estate portfolio is massive. It includes 98 fire stations, 81 library locations, 25 police stations and two of the largest water treatment plants on the planet — in all, more than 400 municipal buildings.
It takes approximately 700,000 megawatt hours per year to keep the wheels turning in the third largest city in the country. Beginning Jan. 1, every single one of them will come solely from clean, renewable energy, mostly sourced from Illinois’ newest and largest solar farm. The move is projected to cut the Windy City’s carbon footprint by approximately 290,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year, the equivalent of taking 62,000 cars off the road, the city said.
Chicago is one of several cities across the country that are not only shaking up their energy mix but also taking advantage of their bulk-buying power to spur new clean energy development.
The city — and much of Illinois — already has one of the cleanest energy mixes in the country, with over 50% of the state’s electricity coming from nuclear power. But while nuclear energy is considered “clean,” carbon-free energy, it is not considered renewable.
Chicago’s move toward renewable energy has been years in the making. The goal of sourcing the city’s energy purely from renewable sources was first established by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2017. In 2022, Mayor Lori Lightfoot struck a deal with electricity supplier Constellation to purchase renewable energy from developer Swift Current Energy for the city, beginning in 2025.
Swift Current began construction on the 3,800-acre, 593-megawatt solar farm in central Illinois as part of the same five-year, $422 million agreement. Straddling two counties in central Illinois, the Double Black Diamond Solar project is now the largest solar installation east of the Mississippi River. It can produce enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes, according to Swift Current’s vice president of origination, Caroline Mann.
Chicago alone has agreed to purchase approximately half the installation’s total output, which will cover about 70 percent of its municipal electricity needs. City officials plan to cover the remaining 30 percent through the purchase of renewable energy credits.
“That’s really a feature and not a bug of our plan,” said deputy chief sustainability officer Jared Policicchio. He added that he hopes the built-in market will help encourage additional clean energy development locally, albeit on a much smaller scale: “Our goal over the next several years is that we reach a point where we’re not buying renewable energy credits.”
Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, Orlando, Florida, and more than 700 other U.S. cities and towns have signed similar purchasing agreements since 2015, according to a 2022 study from World Resources Institute, but none of their plans mandate nearly as much new renewable energy production as Chicago’s.
“Part of Chicago’s goal was what’s called additionality, bringing new resources into the market and onto the grid here,” said Popkin. “They were the largest municipal deal to do this.”
Chicago also secured a $400,000 annual commitment from Constellation and Swift Current for clean energy workforce training, including training via Chicago Women in Trades, a nonprofit aiming to increase the number of women in union construction and manufacturing jobs.
The economic benefits extend past the city’s limits: According to Swift Current, approximately $100 million in new tax revenue is projected to flow into Sangamon County and Morgan County, which are home to the Double Black Diamond Solar site, over the project’s operational life.
“Cities and other local governments just don’t appreciate their ability to not just support their residents but also shape markets,” said Popkin. “Chicago is demonstrating directly how cities can lead by example, implement ambitious goals amidst evolving state and federal policy changes, and leverage their purchasing power to support a more equitable renewable energy future.” ...
Chicago will meet its goal of transitioning all its municipal buildings to renewable energy by 2025, the first step in a broader goal to source energy for all buildings in the city from renewables by 2035 — making it the largest city in the country to do so, according to the Sierra Club.
With the incoming Trump administration promising to decrease federal support for decarbonizing the economy, Dane says it will be increasingly important for cities, towns and states to drive their own efforts to reduce emissions, build greener economies and meet local climate goals. He says moves like Chicago’s prove that they are capable.
“That is an imperative thing to know, that state, city, county action is a durable pathway, even under the next administration, and [it] needs to happen,” said Dane. “The juice is definitely still worth the squeeze.”

OUAW Disability headcannons!!!!!!!
I want more disability rep. and I see prime real estate in Avantris campaigns!!!! Le Krew are my first victims in this devious campaign I have planned.
Kremy
Kremy is missing several body parts from either selling them or being taken due to pay off his immense debt. He walks with a cane now because he’s missing some toes and the tip of his tail is gone. Hims balance is shit!
Gideon
Severe PTSD and lacking some pain receptors. Both of these are pretty self-explanatory; when you’re tortured on a slave train thing your body and brain will get a little funky.
Gricko
Gricko has severe asymmetry to the point where he’s got a limp due to one of his legs being shorter than the other. When Hootsie started to get bigger she noticed that her dad was having trouble walking, so she started to push against him so he doesn’t go off track too much. When Hootsie got kidnaped Gricko unconsciously started to lean against Frost to help him keep balance.
Morning Frost
Severe sensory issues, and the freakouts were horrendous before he got his mind powers. So… duck and cover if Frost touches something that he thinks is icky. There are spots in his fur, if you look close enough, that are completely missing. It’s down to the bare skin; some of his skin's stripes have scars. He developed his mind powers because of his sensory issues and got that “the ickies can’t affect me if I don’t touch them” mindset.
(Tigers have stripes on their skin if you didn’t know. Photo for reference.)
Torbek
Severe Anxiety and Depression disorders, he had these from way back from before he worked at Carnival Lecroux but they’ve become exasperated over the years. After being turned into a witchlight experiment he developed DID with his main alter being one that was based on a high-ranking bugbear he had met during it. I personally don’t really care for evil killer alter so I like to think that Torbek’s alter is just a protector that won’t stop at anything to keep Torbek safe.
Twig
This brownie is legally blind. Do not remove her glasses; she can’t see!! Pigtunia is her smelling eye pig. I’d say seeing eye pig, but Pigtunia also cannot see very well. I headcanon that Pigtunia is one of those pigs with the really saggy overbrow, so she uses her sniffer to get around.
𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥𖢥
I was going to add chuckles to this, but I decided that it’d be better saved for Stardust or something like that. These are just my headcanons as well, so feel free to agree with them or pretend they don’t exist.
Also, why are there no pet the Twig gifs? >:( Respect my girl

You were another lost child with cursed abilities fostered on the Gojo estate. It wasn’t uncommon for them to bring in strays, mostly waifs who were not associated with a sorcerer family and had nowhere else to go.
Some whispered Gojo had taken the initiative after his best friend had adopted two young girls with cursed abilities before defecting from the jujutsu world, an extremely low point in his life that he had turned into an opportunity.
Your arrival at the estate had been a few weeks after Megumi and Tsumiki had been brought in. And of course, as adults tend to do, they had bunched the three of you together since you were close in age. Tsumiki was more open than Megumi, your friendship guaranteed from the moment you laid eyes on each other. The lack of cursed energy felt from Tsumiki wasn’t a deterrent in any way, the both of you running to the playground or taking time to braid each other’s hair. Megumi was quieter, more stoic, and not the kind to enjoy swinging from the monkey bars or playing tag with the other children.
In fact, Megumi rarely accompanied you and Tsumiki anywhere. The only time you two spent together was when you were in training, sometimes with Gojo, sometimes with a wizened old instructor who would bark criticism at you if you failed to follow instructions. You preferred Gojo who was laxer and made training into a fun pastime rather than the old man, but Megumi never cracked a smile or laughed during any of these sessions, quietly summoning his shikigami, unbothered by the praise Gojo showered on him. His technique was quite developed for someone barely 8 years of age, and you watched him with fascination.
“Oh, does my young student have a crush on Megumi?” Gojo would often tease you when he’d catch you looking at Megumi during your training sessions, flustering you and sending your little heart into a panic.
“No! Why would I like him, he’s so weird and untalkative. No, not me! I don’t have a crush on him!” You’d deny vehemently, shaking your head no, causing Gojo to erupt with laughter and pat your head.
“Ok ok I believe you calm down,” he’d say reassuringly, grinning at the tears brimming in your large baby eyes. Megumi on the other hand, acted indifferent whenever this question was brought up, making you believe he hadn’t heard anything, watching his shikigami scurry about the room.
Eventually, Gojo insists that you and Megumi would have to start sparring with each other to test your abilities. In a real battle, there would be no one calling out advice or instructions to help you. You faced Megumi in your yukata, fists raised and ready. You were nervous, and deep down, you couldn’t help but feel you weren’t any match for Megumi in the first place. Tsumiki and some of the other children gathered around to watch both of you, Gojo watching intently to make sure no one got seriously injured.
Megumi summoned the divine dogs first, the pair of adolescent cubs growling and ready to attack. You prepare yourself as they approach you and to your surprise, your first hit lands true, blocking and stunning one of the wolves which whimpers and disappears back into shadow. Megumi looks unperturbed but you can see his jaw clenching before he directs the remaining wolf to tackle you. You dodge the first one but aren’t as lucky the second time as the wolf catches you and you land on your back winded. The wolf’s hot breath can be felt on your neck, and though you knew they wouldn’t really harm you, you couldn’t bear to imagine the idea of being defeated.
With a cry, you flip the wolf over and it backs away with a yelp, running towards Megumi to regroup. You chase after it, feet gaining speed, ready to slam it with all the energy you can muster when the wolf disappears like its sibling at the last moment. With a yelp, you crash into Megumi who had been too transfixed on the match to realize you were barreling in his direction.
You collide painfully into his slim frame and the both of you go tumbling down, Megumi’s dark eyes gazing up at yours in a daze. You had never been in such proximity with him. You were convinced he would be cold to touch, just like his gaze and his attitude, but he was warm, and looking flushed from having you so close. A few moments pass where the both of you are looking into each other’s eyes, stunned, before Megumi, turning a delicate shade of red, pushes you off.
“What’s the matter with you? Trying to kill me by sitting on my neck?” Megumi yells as he scrambles away from you, his own heart beating faster than normal. He tries to brush it off as being surprised but can’t seem to stop blushing.
“I’m sorry, I was aiming for the wolf,” you try to explain through your embarrassment but Megumi is already retreating, his back to you as he walks away from the training ring. Gojo declared you the winner but that incident was the beginning of a neverending series of matches to one-up the other that followed you into your teens. That initial childhood match had broken the ice and you and Megumi had developed a competitive friendship, pushing each other to be the best sorcerers you could be. He’d grown into a tall, slim adolescent, his ebony hair erratically spiky no matter what he did to it.
“Is that all you got?” he taunts as his now fully grown demon dogs close in on you, their eyes glowing menacingly. You merely huff, readying your cursed energy in your palms. As usual, a crowd has gathered to watch and place bets, and you make out Inumaki, Yuta, and Maki senpai, as well as Nobara and Yuji who were in the same year as you. It was always difficult to predict who would be the victor in these matches. The statistics had you both at a tie, and some matches ended up astonishing everyone at the last minute about who had won.
“Naw, I’m just saving my energy. Why waste it on something that isn’t a challenge?” You throw back, feeling your power surge. Megumi imperceptibly smiles, a subtle quirk of his lips before the wolves come dashing at you. It was more difficult to evade them now, they had grown so much, but thanks to agility training, you managed to dodge them a few times before raining down surges of gathered cursed energy on them. The wolves snarl, teeth bared, and try to dodge but your bursts of energy confuse them and not too soon, both of them take a wrong step and are hit by your technique. They lay on the ground, exhausted and unable to move.
“She won again! Yes! 1000 yen to me!” The crowd begins to cash in on their bets as you look over at Megumi who is hiding his disappointment well. He walks over to you to shake your hand as was his custom after every match he lost.
“Great job. But to be fair, you only have that one technique. Someday the dogs will catch on and avoid it.”
“Oh don’t be so bitter about the fact that my technique can be used so broadly.”
“Why would I be bitter about only having one good technique? Your lack of variety will be your downfall one day.”
The back-and-forth wasn’t uncommon and both of you are grinning good-naturedly as you hurl insults at each other. There wasn’t any malice, just a shared camaraderie from your common past. Nobara and Yuji start to make their way towards you, clapping you on the back for your victory.
“Oh don’t pout so much Megumi, you’ll get wrinkles,” Nobara says to the tall youth, putting her hands on his cheeks. Megumi immediately pulls his face away.
“I wasn’t pouting. I was expressing my sadness that some people may never develop more than one cursed technique.” You roll your eyes at the comment.
“You’re just jealous that my one technique is so strong and you need to summon multiple creatures to even have a comparable energy level.”
“I’d rather be diverse than one-dimensional.”
“Says the guy with only one expression.” You put a scowl on your face and cross your arms and Yuji laughs at the impression.
“That’s so you Megumi,” he says between breaths. Megumi is about to retort when Nobara pulls on his hand. A little too possessively and it has your grin faltering at the sight.
“Come on. I wanted to get boba tea. My treat, Megumi.”
“Why? I lost.”
“Because I don’t want to sit across a grumpy goth boy.” She looks over her shoulder and casually says, “You’re welcome to join us if you want to.” Nobara sounded normal but your girl senses could tell otherwise and you shake your head no.
“Go ahead. I want to stay in tonight.”
“I can stay if you’re not coming,” Megumi starts but you shake your head, a little too vigorously. Your voice sounds artificially light.
“No! You guys have plans. Go right ahead!” Megumi frowns but is prevented from saying anything else as Nobara gives him another impatient pull.
“Come on! Otherwise, all the good flavors will be gone!” There’s little you can do except watch her drag him away, and there’s a strange sense of emptiness inside you like you hadn’t won the match at all. Yuji sees your expression and his eyes widen in concern.
“You ok?”
“Oh, yeah. I’m fine!” You smile to mask the uncomfortable feeling settling in your stomach but the image of Nobara holding Megumi’s hand is burned into your mind. Had they always been that way? Since when was Megumi ok with casual acts of PDA like that?
Ever perceptive Yuji wasn’t deterred. “You don’t look ok. Are you sure? Did you want to go with those two?”
You shake your head. “Yuji, wasn’t it obvious that they wanted to go together? Just them?”
Yuji takes a minute to consider and makes a noise of agreement. “I suppose you’re right.” He glances at you then says, “You and Megumi have known each other a long time huh?”
“Yeah, we have. Both of us were fostered by Gojo sensei. We’ve known each other since we were kids. Trained our curse techniques together since we were like 9 years old.”
“It’s normal to feel a little jealous when your best friend makes friends with someone else.”
You snort. “Jealous? Me?”
“Yeah. That’s what I thought anyway. Are you not jealous that your childhood friend is out having tea with someone and you aren’t with them?”
You feel your pulse quickening. “I’m not jealous. Megumi and I aren’t attached at the hip. He can hang out with whoever he wants.”
Yuji looks unconvinced but decides to back off. “All right then. Well, what do you want to do for dinner?”
You decide to order ramen and eat it in Yuji’s dorm. And though you laughed and joked with Yuji, you kept checking your phone hoping to see a text from Megumi. It never came. After bidding Yuji good night, you lay awake on your bed staring up at the ceiling wondering. You and Megumi had somehow become inseparable after that match so many years ago. It felt strange to be without him. When Gojo had told you you were going to Jujutsu High, the only thing consoling you about being separated from Tsumiki was that Megumi would be accompanying you.
When had he found another friend that he wanted to hang out with? A girl no less? You sigh, feeling dejected. Nobara, with her pretty face, perfect hair, and princessy attitude. You had originally liked Nobara, but now the thought of her made you feel like you weren’t up to scratch, like you were inferior to her somehow.
The concept of looking pretty for Megumi had never crossed your mind until now. Maybe Megumi did like well-dressed girls that cared about their appearance. But since when did you care about looking good for Megumi? You had gotten so used to him when you lived with Gojo that nothing fazed you. He’d seen you in pajamas, he’d seen you when you were sick, and when you were a ball of pain during your period. He’d seen you during so many moments where you were vulnerable and remained steadfast by your side that you’d never even considered trying to dress up for him.
Megumi was Megumi, the constant in your life after Tsumiki, and now, you felt unsteady, like he was being pulled away from you. Because wasn’t he a little more ‘yours’ and less ‘hers’ simply because you’d known him longer? Your thoughts swirl together, muddled until you fall into a restless sleep.
The next morning came too early and when you woke up, you felt hollow. You dragged yourself out of bed and got ready for the day thinking you could go to the cafeteria and get some breakfast before you started training again. You check your phone and see you had forgotten to charge it and it had switched off.
Dressed in sweats and flip-flops, your hair up in a ratty bun, you walk to the cafeteria and are relieved to see no one there you normally talk to, just some younger students who had their own clique. You decide on porridge and are about to take a bite from the steaming bowl when you’re distracted by the appearance of a tall brunette at the entrance.
You freeze, spoon in hand as Megumi makes his way towards you feeling uncomfortably self-conscious about your appearance. Why did he have to find you like this?
“Hey,” he says quietly, locking his fingers together before him.
“Hey.” Your mouth feels dry all of a sudden. You pick at your porridge to distract yourself.
“You didn’t answer my text.”
Wordlessly, you pull out your phone showing him the blank screen, and comprehension dawns on his face. “Forgot to charge it huh?” he asks with a lilt in his voice. “That’s so like you. Can’t even remember to put your phone for charge without a reminder from me.”
Not in the mood for your usual banter, you clip out, “What can I say? I can’t always rely on you to remind me.”
Megumi raises an eyebrow at your tone. “Well someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.”
Hostility enters your voice. “Didn’t you have anything better to do than come looking for me first thing in the morning?”
“I hadn’t heard from you. Forgive me for looking for my friend.”
“Like you care! Weren’t you out with Nobara all night?”
“Is that why you’re acting like this? Because I was hanging out with Nobara?”
“No.” You lie through gritted teeth. “We’re in high school now Megumi, do you think I care who you hang out with?” You see him flinch at your words and guilt whacks you in the stomach, causing you to tear up. The group of juniors were starting to give you funny looks from their table. You sigh and shake your head.
“I don’t want to talk to you right now.” Abandoning your porridge, you sprint out of the cafeteria. Megumi remains where he is for a split second, dumbfounded, before racing after you.
“Wait! Slow down! Come back here!”
You ignore his calls and continue making your way back to your dorm.
“Don’t you dare walk away right now!” You hear the hurt in his voice but can’t bring yourself to face him like this, feeling and looking your worst. Emotional turmoil threatened to swallow you whole. When you get back to your room, you allow yourself to cry.
*・゜・*:.。.*.。.:*・☆・゜
Yuji kept shooting you furtive glances during your classes for the rest of the week. Megumi had distanced himself since that incident and you sat several desks away from him. You ate alone and trained alone. It had been an isolating week and you felt like there was a brick wall between you both. Megumi seemed content to spend his time with Nobara, a fact that he wasn’t hiding, considering that she seemed to be glued to him at all times.
Grateful for the weekend, you change out of your uniform into the coziest hoodie you had, then decide to wander off campus and eat from one of the food carts outside. Food fried in oil was the only source of comfort your brain could conjure at the moment.
Your feet automatically took you to your favorite vendor, a yakitori place, and as usual, a line had formed in front of the cart. You make your way to the back of the line just as someone else also reaches the end, vying for the same spot.
“Oh, sorry-” you start, then stare, gobsmacked as Megumi gapes down at you. Your eyes meet for a moment and it’s awkward, like you’ve forgotten how to say hello to each other. Unwilling to fight for the spot, you swiftly step away and stand behind him. Megumi glances behind his shoulder and sighs deeply.
“You don’t have to do that. We’re not strangers. Stand next to me.”
Not expecting the invitation, you warily look at him as he gestures at the space next to him. “It’s fine, you’re only one spot ahead of me.”
Megumi huffs, and with a level of impressive maturity, says, “Please stop acting weird and get over here.”
Uncertainly, you step into line next to him, silence falling between you both as you wait your turn. “How are you?” You ask, trying to break the quiet.
“Not so good. See a close friend of mine blew me off and won’t tell me why she’s upset. And then she has the gall to wear my hoodie out in public even though she’s supposedly mad at me.”
“Your hoodie…?” You check yourself and realize, you were indeed wearing his hoodie, the one you’d ‘borrowed’ from him God knows when. He hadn’t asked for it back and it had remained in your custody, simply because it was too cozy to return. Who knew you’d run into him here while you were wearing it?
“I’m sorry, I had nothing else to wear. I’ll give it back to you after I finish laundry this weekend.”
A strange expression flitters across Megumi’s face and he avoids eye contact. “I didn’t say I wanted it back,” he says in a low voice before taking a deep breath and continuing. “Are you really not going to talk to me?”
Your chest constricts and you try not to lose composure. Not here. Not now. “I didn’t say I wouldn’t talk to you. I just didn’t feel like talking this last week.”
“And you don’t think I deserve an explanation?” Megumi asks quietly and you hear the disappointment in his voice. “When did you decide that we can’t sit together or talk things out anymore?”
You swallow and give him a partial answer. “I thought you wanted to spend more time with Nobara. You guys seem to be getting really close these days.”
“Nobara?” Megumi shakes his head. “Nobara’s nice but how can she substitute you?”
You feel a gentle rise in your stomach, like warm liquid was being poured into it, making your heart beat a little faster. “You guys looked like you were having fun.”
“Nobara is a classmate. And a friend. But you and I have a history. How do you think anything can replace that?” A breeze passes through, ruffling both your hair.
“I’m sorry,” you say in a soft voice.
“Do you know how hard it’s been not being able to talk to you?” There’s a tone in his voice that has you raising your head carefully.
“Are you saying you missed me?”
“Tsk. Yes. There? Are you happy?”
It felt like there were a thousand butterflies alive in your stomach all at once, their little fluttering wings threatening to pull you away into the air.
“I don’t know about happy,” you say loftily, trying to hide the grin on your face.
“You’re so bad at pretending.” Megumi bumps his shoulder into you, a typical teenage boy move and you return the action, bumping back into him, the tension between you both dissipating slightly.
“But one thing I don’t get is, why are you so mad that I was hanging out with Nobara?” The question catches you off guard, and you find yourself scrambling to form words.
“Oh, it’s nothing. She just seemed to be acting over-familiar with you. Holding your hand and stuff. You hated that as kids.”
“I’ve come to realize it’s not so bad.” The back of his hand brushes against yours as he says so, sending a skitter of electricity through your body.
“Oh yeah? So you’ll hold hands with just anyone then?”
“Not just anyone.” Your breath catches as Megumi’s large hand gently pulls yours, his fingers entwining between yours. “Nobara doesn’t really hold hands. She sort of grabs and yanks. Now this,” he raises your joined hands, “Is what holding hands should look like.”
Acutely aware of the fact that you looked like a couple at this very moment you think of ways to free your hand, each more futile than the last. Megumi seemed perfectly comfortable, looking at the surroundings and moving forward towards the cart.
When your embarrassment becomes palpable, your hand involuntarily jerks, trying to escape Megumi’s finger prison, but to no avail. Unperturbed by the action, the lanky teenager looks at you with a raised eyebrow.
“Is holding my hand causing some sort of issue for you?”
You’re aware of the rising heat in your cheeks and try to play it cool. “I just don’t want people getting the wrong idea of us.”
“And what might that be?”
“That we’re a couple.”
“Oh. Does holding hands automatically contribute to us being a couple?” Megumi looks at you with a glint in his eye. “Aren’t there other factors that might have people coming to that conclusion anyway?”
Your heart hammers away in your chest as you meet his eyes, trying to keep your emotions under control. “Like what?”
“Oh, I don’t know. Like the fact that you’re wearing my hoodie. And yes, it’s obvious it’s a boy’s hoodie because it’s oversized on you,” he adds as he sees you about to protest. “Or how about the fact that you’re blushing and despite me giving you a window to pull away, you’re still holding my hand?”
You look down and see that Megumi’s hand has gone lax and you could have very well used that opportunity to free yourself. Instead, your fingers are curled around Megumi’s, holding them at the very tips. As you’re about to uncurl them, Megumi’s draw them in closer and you’re back at square one.
“So that’s it? You’re gonna hold my hand captive, and then everyone will just assume we’re a couple? Then what?” You ask sarcastically, your go-to defense mechanism. Megumi lets out a small laugh.
“We could try actually being a couple.” Megumi’s eyes catch yours, and you’re in a trance, unable to look away. “Shocking, right?”
“But we! I! That’s not!” Incomplete splutters leave your lips as you try to process what he’d said. “Us? Be a couple?”
“Yes. Unless you don’t want to?” They’re one person away from reaching the cheerful-looking cart owner. A heavy pause hangs in the air.
“I want to.” You finally admit and you draw closer to him, finding reassurance when he doesn’t move away.
“Good. Because I want to, too.”
*・゜・*:.。.*.。.:*・☆・゜
Unknown to the shy couple now sitting on a bench and eating their yakitori, Nobara watches them like a hawk, an exasperated Yuji hovering behind her.
“Why are we spying on them? If you like Megumi, then you should have said something.” Yuji chides to her, uncomfortable at his actions.
“Who says I like Megumi?” Nobara looks at him, wrinkling her nose.
“Then what was with all the flirty moves and asking him to get tea with you?”
“All part of my master plan. Those two are so into each other, but too stubborn to admit they like each other.”
“Wait, what?” Yuji looks stunned. “You knew they liked each other but went out of your way to spend all that time with Megumi?”
“Yes! Because I knew Megumi would never confess, but a jealous girl always gets the ball rolling.”
“That’s…a little messed up but smart.”
“What can I say?” Nobara crosses her arms over her chest, looking proud. “I’m a girl’s girl. I like creating happy endings.”

Most dogs are trapped in an endless loop of boredom. After millennia of hanging out in the wild, they're now stuck in suburbia. Just like their so-called best friend, the human, dogs yearn for stimulation that they're not getting in their off-eggshell-white, HOA-controlled economic-efficiency prisons. In recent history, these stimuli used to come from long rides in cars, but with the price of gas, and especially the death of our beloved Saab Automobile AB, who can afford to just drive their dog around while they bark at weird birds they see on the highway?
In the modern era, the rapid development of "dog parks" has attempted to provide a substitute to the demanding dog. No roar of engines, sure, but you get to run around a bit, maybe bite a Little League player. Unfortunately, dog parks are expensive to safely fence, and the poop has lots of negative impacts on the local real estate market, which we have collectively decided is the most important thing in existence and should be the sole survivor of our civilization, the only mark in the historical record that we were ever here. So they get turned into luxury condos.
Trains would be an option for the bored pooch-about-town, had we thought to build them. Dogs are notoriously enthusiastic about steam locomotives in particular, a fact which alternately thrills and horrifies animal psychologists the world over. Electric less so: the inverter whine hurts their little ears, and most of those run underground, where the only thing to bark at is weird rats. No fun at all. Streetcars, you ask? Don't make me laugh. You know what happened to that clown college at the bottom of the hill.
There is, however, hope. At the pet store, I have just now found this rubber bee that squeaks when you squeeze it. I am assured that it is the end of dog boredom for all eternity, or at least until my miniature Pomeranian, Ripper, tears the squeaker out and pukes it up on my duvet at 3:15 in the morning. Don't thank me: I'm just doing my part for all of dogkind.

Honestly find it a little frustrating that so much of mass transit conversations focus exclusively on trains. Trains are great don't get me wrong, but buses are relatively extremely cheap and require very little in the way of city infrastructure planning and construction. You can establish or reroute a bus route basically in the span of time it takes to make that decision and communicate it (both to riders and in terms of training drivers). More buses, staff, and signage may need to be acquired, but are also fairly straightforward and attainable with modest investment even by smaller or poorer municipalities.
Establishing a train line, though, or even a streetcar, requires acquisition of real estate, public comment, environmental impact studies (among other types of research), construction of tracks, stations, and other infrastructure, and so on. It's a long expensive process with many steps that can be delayed for very long spans of time and the result is fairly permanent and for the most part can't be changed.
When there's a problem with the train cars or infrastructure it is very expensive and takes a long time to repair, and whole stretches of the system might be out of commission in the meantime. Buses, on the other hand, are very adaptable. If a road becomes unavailable due to construction, road damage, or other issues, the route can simply change to drive around it. If a bus breaks down it can be towed away and replaced without the same technical issues of, for example, making sure the car is compatible with the rails and other infrastructure.
Here in Seattle the light rail system has been in development for decades and still doesn't reach most neighborhoods, let alone nearby cities. It has not and fundamentally cannot keep up with the pace of population growth in the area. As much as I would love to be able to catch a quick train to visit friends in Olympia or Everett (there is Amtrak but it only runs a few times a day and is pretty expensive), I kind of wish that money had instead been put towards a good central bus station and a large fleet of buses to run frequent trips to all corners of the city and beyond (one bus every 30 minutes is not frequent, sorry).
The cost really can't be brushed off, too. That relatively low minimum investment in time and money makes it possible for buses to serve poor communities, even when people get pushed out of central neighborhoods. Which is important to consider when, well, if homes or businesses need to be demolished for new infrastructure, who do you think they tend to belong to? And who gets pushed out when the area around those new stations suddenly becomes very desirable? Whose voices are prioritized and listened to when this much money is on the line, the white single family homeowner with and HOA and a job that accommodates going to public listening sessions that might not even be accessible by bus, or the renters, the people who work graveyard shift, the single parents who can't afford an extra day of babysitting, the people who might speak English as a second language or not at all?

In this post, I will attempt to calmly, reasonably, and in-a-good-faith-manner argue all the points raised by tumblr user @library-bat-girl in the following posts. I am starting a new thread so as not to further destroy the original poster, @skitterenjoyer's, tumblr notifications. Worm (+MHA) spoilers ahead. This will be a long post.
Firstly, I would like to apologize on the worm fandom's behalf. We will not engage in ableism of any kind. I sincerely hope that this was a singular incident and @skittersdrippygirlcock will be better about this in the future.
"MHA has better characters,"
My Hero Academia's primary achievement, I think, is managing to make many decently well rounded characters in a fairly short time-span. It certainly has very good visual character design, with easily memorable character designs, like Mina Ashido or Tsuyu Asui. Most of Class 1A is shown to be more than single-note gimmick characters. For a story with such a tight schedule, and only so much page real-estate, that's impressive! For instance, a character decidedly outside of the main cast, Fumikage Tokoyami, is shown to have more to his personality than "is an edgelord," showing a humility and friendliness that is highly against-type. This is very different than a lot of its peers, especially in Shonen manga, where side characters (and sometimes even main characters) are never more than their tropes (see Fairy Tale, One Punch Man*, The Seven Deadly Sins, or Black Clover). My Hero Academia does clear that bar, by making side characters little more than their tropes. This is to say nothing of the primary cast, who, again, is largely defined by tropes and easily slotted into standardized interchangeable Shonen roles. Rival, Love Interest, Rival but Nice About It. Additionally, MHA has an uncomfortably sexualized main cast, for one composed primarily of minors.
This is compared to Worm, in which many characters are fully realized and could have been the protagonist (and often were in older drafts of the story, due to Worm's 10-year development hell). Every character that gets an interlude, and most that don't, all have fully realized interiority, traumas, and wants. In fact, this is one of the major themes of Worm. Every character, from the protagonist Taylor, to characters so minor they're seen only once (see Damsel of Distress, Dauntless), to major antagonists and monsters (see Jack Slash, Bonesaw) all have their own story, even if this is never shown on-screen. There are no "side characters" in the same manner as in My Hero Academia, because every character is a protagonist of their own story, and not in a trite "life is so beautiful" way.
Taylor isn't the center of the universe, there's an entire world outside of her 3-block bubble. The mechanism by which all characters get their superpowers means that the mere fact of having powers implies this about them. Even the seeming exceptions, aren't (see Alexandria, Garotte). Taylor is a good character. I don't even know how to elaborate on that. She just is. Worm does not have the character Minoru Mineta.
"a better plot,"
What... what is the plot of My Hero Academia? For the life of me, I can't seem to recall. I can tell you the general formula of most of the arcs for the first ~2/3rds of the story. Class 1A goes to do a hero high school thing, like do rescue training, or on-the-job training, or on-the-job-training, or on-the-job-training (they do it like 4 times for some reason), the League Of Villains shows up (even when it's seemingly not the league of villains it actually is the league of villains) they fight about it, the class beats all the villains, and Deku beats up strongest bad guy and also breaks his bones. Repeat step 1. But like. What's... the plot? The League of Villains is evil and wants to kill people and do bad stuff. They explicitly do not have greater motivations. There's generally themes of passing-on-to-the-new-generation, so there's Tomura Shigaraki as the arch nemesis to Izuku Midoriya, just as All Might's Nemesis is All For One. Eventually they fight a big fight about it and I stop reading because I find out about Worm. From what I understand (I have not read the conclusion) the series ends without addressing any long-running questions, wrapping up any character arcs, or concluding anything in a narratively satisfying manner. As if severely rushed.
Worm, there are maybe 15 main stories going on simultaneously, which are all tied into the final confrontation with Scion. The most obvious is Taylor's and the Undersiders' story, about taking over Brockton Bay and defeating Coil, which is a smaller part of Coil's story about taking over the bay, until their confrontation with him in arc 17, when it supersedes Coil's story, and then intersects with Cauldron's story, the Traveler's story, the Case 53s' stories, the Wards' story, all of it, in arcs 18-19. This is one example. A great deal of attention is spent making sure the reader knows that Taylor, the Undersiders, Coil, all of them, are bit players in a very large game. Despite this, it's never hard to follow, because Wildbow, while lacking some of the more flowery prose, manages extremely well at making his stories easy to understand.
"I feel like even people who like Worm can agree that Worm is not the most consistent piece of fiction ever written. The disjointed way it was written meant that emphasis was primarily put on 'What Wildbow thought was cool in the moment', [sic] and the story RADICALLY shifts gears every time a new arc starts."
What? Huh? Worm is extremely consistent. Like. 1.1 to E.x. It's, like. Not disjointed? Oh my god, are you talking about interludes? Is that what you mean? The interludes shift gears? Because that makes sense. It's one of the hardest things about worm, yeah. It's gripping! The interludes are a great idea to expand the world of worm, but the problem is that taylor's story is so intriguing that stepping away from it to focus on something else is hard, no matter how individually interesting. I want to read about taylor's escalation spiral, not the travelers! (As opposed to My Hero Academia having random escalation and de-escalation between arcs with no real explanation. We're reading about lives-on-the-line battles with child-slavers and then move to playing on a playground with little kids? Best I can think of is that this whiplash is intentional, but this is never communicated to the reader. Worm does not do this. Any de-escalation is met with the explicit understanding that this is merely a period of calm before things get even worse). Taylor's story wraps up in an extremely narratively satisfying fashion, following her story to its logical conclusion. There were so many ways it could have been avoided, but there was really only one way that it could have ended.
"better worldbuilding,"
This actually offends me. MHA could have had great world-building. It doesn't. Every potentially interesting bit of world-building is backpedaled out of or stopped before it could get anywhere. Or it's just never elaborated or expanded upon. Everyone having a superpower could have been cool, but the implications of this are nonexistent. The reasons for this having no real implications, that being the banning of quirks, also has implications that are also immediately backpedaled out of. It's been hundreds of years since our time, yet life is exactly the same. Nothing ever happens. Endeavor is a cool concept. I like Endeavor. his existence implies such interesting things about the world, how important hero ranking is to these people's lives, that he would create this horrific system of domestic abuse to try and get to the #1 spot. What does this say about this system of heroes that operates like a popularity contest? It could have said a lot. It says nothing. What does the League of Villains, a league of people who call themselves out-and-out villains, who base their ideology in opposing this system of heroes, say about society? Nothing. On purpose. Worm does something with this. One Punch Man does something with this. My Hero Academia puts it in the story, and lets it sit, unused, for a decade.
Worm has... unique world-building. Because it's both good and bad at the same time. Worm's #1 feature is its world. It's brilliant, full stop. Triggers, The Birdcage, the PRT, Exclusion Zones! Why does the status quo exist? what does it say about that society? What does it say about our society? Why hasn't society radically changed from how it is in our world? This is explained. This plays into the themes. The story wants to say something about this world, and so it does. There are characters whose stories explicitly delve into these themes that are set up in the worldbuilding, like Armsmaster, or Battery, or Bonesaw, or Coil, or Piggot or Alexandria or Taylor herself or Brian or Lisa or ANY OF THEM THEY ALL DO THIS. Sorry.
Anyway, the bad part is that the actual world is not well built (and is kind of racist). What's going on in Europe? There's a 3 blasphemies! a 3 what? never explained. What's going on in Asia, aside from Japan? China is a monarchy for some reason. Why? It's never elaborated on. India gets a little bit of elaboration, we're told its different but not how it's different. Wildbow uses machine translation wrong and names some guy caliph of dogs. This is like worm's #2 problem honestly (#1 is Amy). Wildbow tries to make the implication of a well thought out globe without actually making a well thought out globe.
"stronger themes,"
It really doesn't. As I said in the worldbuilding section, MHA makes a point out of not saying or doing anything. I don't know if editors made Horikoshi walk back the more ambitious story beats or what, but there are multiple points in the story where the author pretty much looks you directly in the eye and goes "This Story Isn't Saying Anything At All Even Though It Looked Like It Would. Lmao."
Worm has lots of themes. I think Armsmaster/Defiant's story is my favorite. His entire character arc (which is fully realized despite him being a background character for nearly the entire story) has a point to it. It says something. It's misanthropic and uplifting simultaneously, and manages to feel like it earns both. It's a shared theme with Bonesaw/Riley's story, explored in two different ways.
"Meanwhile MHA establishes an actual overall theme/message right from the start that expands and develops throughout the story. The worldbuilding is informed by the message, which informs the characters arcs and the people they become by the end of the story."
I notice that you never actually say what that message is. What is it? Like, for real. I'm not being confrontational or anything, like what is the message? Cuz' I can't think of one. My Hero Academia, at its very core, is a defense of the status quo. Much like its world-building, but much less forgivable, because it does do something new and unique with its world-building. MHA could have done some extremely interesting stuff with its early implicit critique of heroic society as shown with characters like Bakugo, or Shigaraki, or Endeavor, or Overhaul, or Midoriya himself! It just doesn't! It doesn't do stuff that Worm does do!
Worm does have a message. It has a lot of messages, actually, some that the author disagrees with somehow. Prison abolition, for one. We know Wildbow loves prison. Anyway, the big one is in the subtitle: doing the wrong things for the right reasons. Taylor's constant spiral of escalation, her dwindling attachments to her friends and greater focus on treating herself like a soldier is prevalent, and it is to be avoided. Taylor isn't a sin-eater. They don't exist. From what I remember, this is sort of explored in Deku's character arc for a short period of time, but much like everything else in MHA, it is backpedaled out of.
The funniest is "don't text and drive" though.
"Just on a basic level the way that the audience is meant to feel about Taylor oscillates wildly between being directed to think of her as a misunderstood victim of circumstance, or history's greatest monster."
That's kind of the point. Like. the audience isn't meant to look at Taylor the same way throughout the entire story. It's meant to change as she changes. Taylor's opinion of Taylor changes. The mistake here is saying it "oscillates wildly." it doesn't. It's a slow and steady change for the worse, as Taylor gets more violent and starts throwing away greater and greater parts of herself to become more like a robot and less like a person.
"But a bigger issue in general is tone. It's very focused on being dark and gritty and edgy, and it makes the mistake a lot of consciously edgy media does. IE: it thinks that all it has to do to be smart is be bleak and/or graphic. It doesn't really try to say anything, in fact it contradicts itself throughout the book as I mentioned before, it just throws in extremely graphic scenes and content periodically to remind the audience how fucked everything is."
Did you read the boys and think it was worm? What? It's not being smart when it's bleak or graphic? I actually personally like the endbringers or the slaughterhouse 9, and not because I like watching people suffer. These things exist for a reason. It's not being dark for the sake of being dark. The heroes could stop the slaughterhouse 9. We see that, when they almost stop the slaughterhouse 9 (it's explicitly shown that they are stopped from destroying the slaughterhouse 9). The question then becomes why don't they? It's a grim, brutal calculus, and one that wasn't worth it. That's the point. The Endbringers are different. It's not until arc 27 that they're really explained. You could either read them as a criticism of Eidolon or of ableism, honestly. I mean, it wasn't intentional, he didn't create them on purpose, he needed something to fight, because without that he's nothing. His powers are all he has.
"Worm spends so much time trying to be edgy that as with a lot of edgy media the edginess loses all impact quite quickly and becomes sort of cringe."
I don't really think so, but like. Okay. I don't think this is a reconcilable viewpoint (none of this is really but this especially), so like we're probably gonna have to agree to disagree. The only thing I can really think of as edgy for the sake of edginess is Amy's arc. But even that's not really true. It's meant to be an utterly avoidable tragedy that could never have been stopped because of the people involved. Much like Taylor, actually. Amy could have stepped back from the brink, but she didn't, because Amy could never have done that, and nobody else was willing/able to help. It's supposed to be a thing where you sit back and think of all the tiny ways this could have easily been avoided, but wasn't.
"When body horror happens it still has impact because it's not happening constantly."
I mean, I guess. But like. I never got desensitized to the body horror in Worm. It hit pretty consistently for me throughout. As opposed to MHA, where it was usually walked back by the end of every arc. I never felt much tension or suspense because it felt as if there weren't actual consequences. In Worm, when Brian was strung up on his nerves, it felt disgusting because I was fully aware Worm would explore the ripple effects of this. It felt entirely possible he would die there, or never recover, because Worm didn't pull its punches. MHA did. This is a matter of opinion. We'll just have to agree to disagree about it.
"But most importantly - you root for the heroes because the world actually seems like it's worth saving."
that's just, um. sorry. I'm really trying here. That's just. Uh. Dumb. Do you root for Batman cause Gotham is a nice city? Everything's worth saving, that's, like, at its most basic what the concept of a superhero is about.
"Not only that but MHA simply does villain protagonists objectively better than Worm."
um. No? There straight up aren't villain protagonists in MHA. The villains are the POV characters for, like, one arc? You know what, here's a good spot for it. It's stated throughout the story that Shigaraki and the League of Villains have a goal, beyond just death and destruction. They're here to stop the corrupt society of heroes (that MHA hints at the existence of before backpedaling away from), and bring about a fairer society. But then, and this part pissed me off, one of the characters, I think Bakugo, says: "you're just using that as cover! you just want to kill people, you have no noble goal!" and shigaraki's like "dang you caught me." and then it happens again with Deku! Because My Hero Academia is allergic to saying something. Nope! They're villains! No moral depth here! They're Villains, We're Heroes, Go Put Them In Jail.
This is opposed to Worm, where- "The characters of the villains and their origins are used to highlight the flaws in the Superhuman society"
"Most of the villains are only villains because society failed them in some way, and the specific ways in which that happened become big plot points that then play into the future arc of our heroic characters."
I had to walk away from my computer for this one. It's hard to be civil. It's really hard. Polite and reasonable.
So Worm is about this. To even say this without a shred of irony makes me thing you've never once read a single word of Worm and are doing this purely as bait. Or you've read all of Worm and are doing this purely as bait.
"They're actually extremely complex in a way that ends up being fundamentally important to the overall story - where in Worm the villains are either based heroes fighting a corrupt system or they're histories [sic] greatest monsters... until they're presented as heroes again."
I think I get it now. I really think I do. You're not supposed to agree with all the characters. Like. Worm is inconsistent, in that it follows the perspectives of inconsistent people. Of course Triumph and Armsmaster don't agree on what is right! They're different people, they have different perspectives!
"See. Worm fans keep saying "This is Bait." It's not Bait, you all are simply ridiculous and obsessed with this series to such a degree that you feel compelled to say "This is Bait" instead of just... ignoring it, because you have no actual counterargument."
Perhaps worm fans are inclined to believe you posted rage bait because you brazenly walked into another fandom's post and wholeheartedly proclaimed that the thing they liked was Stupid Idiot Bullshit For Fucking Morons, and refused to elaborate until prompted, at which point you said several things that are demonstrably false about Worm.
"Your only response to anything I've said is pedantry, bigotry, and deflection. If it was obviously just bait why are you engaging?"
Well, I'm engaging because I've been in a foul mood since I woke up this morning. Also because you, again, said some very rude and patently false statements about a story that I really enjoy and find narratively rich, even in its faults.
"MHA's characters do fall into archetypal shounen character roles - but they are all given a solid amount of focus explaining why they are like that and developing them into something bigger."
Again, as I said, it's a genuinely impressive feat to have an ensemble cast like what My Hero Academia has, and give so many of the characters a degree of depth, with such little manga to work with. I think worm does it better, but worm doesn't have to be economical about it. MHA does. The problem I have with this statement is that it becomes a question of scale. How much bigger? They're no longer defined by their tropes, instead defined by their opposition to their tropes. It's still a one-note character, you've merely changed the note from C to C sharp.
"so almost every member of the cast has an arc that either develops them past the person they initially seemed to be or explains why they're like that."
This is probably my favorite part about MHA. They do have arcs! I love ensemble casts! it does a much better job in this than all of its contemporaries, even One Piece. However, they are comparatively simplistic arcs that all follow a similar formula.
"I've heard people say MHA is neocon or pro-establishment but the story literally concludes by showing that society HAS TO FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE or the same problems that created the villains in the first place will keep happening. The entire time skip specifically focuses on the fact that for eight years the main characters have been forcing change in the world and addressing the issues the villains brought up."
Now, I'm going to be clear. I stopped reading My Hero Academia around chapter 275. I don't know the exact number, but it was the latest chapter in ~mid 2020. I would occasionally attempt to reread, in an attempt to catch up, but give up around chapter 200 out of boredom. I don't know exactly how the story ends, but I have read ~2/3rds of the story. I feel this gives me a pretty good understanding of the general tone of the story, unless it wildly changes tone at the 3/4ths mark, which you have explicitly said it does not, as it is extremely coherent and consistent. Therefore, I believe I can state with some degree of confidence that MHA does not do that.
I would certainly believe that it tries (and fails) to SFP it, but SFP does not promote a fundamental societal change. That's the problem. Strong Female Protagonist was willing to come up and say that Alison lived in a fundamentally unjust world, even if it was never willing or able to offer real change. And hey. You do what you can. I sincerely doubt My Hero Academia is even willing to call its world fundamentally unjust, from the 200+ chapters that I did read.
"In the case of the actual main characters, they have extremely comprehensive character arcs."
Adding this behind the last point just so that I don't have to reiterate I haven't finished the book. I am, however, very much not inclined to believe the actual main characters had extremely comprehensive character arcs.
Which plays back into the initial theory that ANYONE CAN BE A HERO.
man, spider-man did that better (not a real argument, but like, spider-man totally did that better). Not least because midoriya specifically could not become a hero were it not for all might giving him a power.
No, the Villains don't get happy endings,
Why not? Why do they go to jail, even the ones who changed and wanted to redeem themselves? Endeavor never goes to jail. He did some horrible stuff. He's redeemed himself in the eyes of the story, right? Anyone can be a hero, right? So why not them? Why haven't they redeemed themselves in the eyes of the story?
You may wish to turn this back on me and ask why doesn't Armsmaster go to prison? Because he's similar in some respects. But worm never calls prison justice. (for some reason, even though wildbow totally loves prison). Prison is punitive, a tool for those in charge to control those it manages to capture. Maybe some deserve life in the birdcage. Many don't. It doesn't matter. Because the birdcage isn't a tool of justice. It's not meant to be. it's a box to put the uncontrollable capes in, until they can be used as meat shields. So Armsmaster doesn't go to prison because the story says explicitly there is no point to it. But MHA? MHA says there is a point to it. Endeavor needs to go to prison if he wants to atone. He's escaping justice every second he's outside.
I have actually read Worm, and for the first half to two thirds I loved it.
Weird. That's exactly how long I really enjoyed MHA. Not, like relevant, to anything. Just odd. I mean, I don't actually dislike MHA. I think it's fine, actually. It feels like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade to me. Funny (when Mineta isn't around), bombastic, and a good time, even if I don't think it's super thematically rich.
I'm not coming at this from the perspective of someone who has never seen any of the merits of Worm, I'm coming at it from the perspective of someone who really liked it, gave it a fair shot, and was eventually disappointed when it ended up not tying together right.
See, this makes me more inclined to think it's bait, actually. since you said "Oh yeah. MHA is published. MHA's been an ongoing publication with a large following for ten years, in a notoriously competitive industry. Now this might seem kind of unimpressive, it's a very low bar to clear I know. But it's one Worm hasn't, so. I dunno, I'd say that's fairly objective. Now you may think "Yeah, but Trash fiction gets published all the time." And that's true but again - Worm hasn't. The worst piece of fiction you can think of got published and Worm didn't. You wanna be an asshole about this? The thing you love is so mid that it was self published in 2013, couldn't get picked up for professional publishing until 2019 and as far as I can see has stayed in development hell since then." in your previous post. Sure, perhaps we can say you were pissed at the time, but "the thing you love is worse than trash fiction, an altogether nothing piece of literature that isn't even worth the paper it would hypothetically be printed on" does not strike me as the words of someone who "really liked it, gave it a fair shot, and was eventually disappointed when it ended up not tying together right." In fact, going back through your other statements on the story, you seem to have genuinely disliked it from the very beginning, on grounds of being too edgy (which I can fully understand the logic of): "IE: it thinks that all it has to do to be smart is be bleak and/or graphic," thematically incoherent: "It doesn't really try to say anything, in fact it contradicts itself throughout the book as I mentioned before, it just throws in extremely graphic scenes and content periodically to remind the audience how fucked everything is," and utterly devoid of purpose or meaning. "When it does introduce new lore that new lore is almost always overly convoluted and acts as a catalyst for things happening, but not really things happening that play into a wider theme or message. It's just "Oh and here's this team of god-level serial killers who are gonna string a dude up by his nervous system." Like yeah, cool visual, but what is any of this actually saying?" This does not sound like a ringing endorsement of the first half of Worm to me. In fact, this sounds like you hated every second of it.
"And frankly given the number of comments that are just people saying "Bait" - I don't think any of y'all have engaged with this in a fair or honest way"
I'm going to reiterate on my previous statement. I like my hero academia. Capeshit is my favorite genre, it probably always will be. They're my favorite genre of story. While I find the themes—or lack thereof—extremely frustrating, I still think of it as fun. I gave it a fair shake. I would probably really enjoy the ending if I didn't have a reading list that was 300 books long.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Y/N wasn't your typical demon, actually, they were one of Muzan's offspring. A cross between human and the fucking demon king. Safe to say they were in his presence at almost all time, that was until Y/N was "killed" by a slayer. In reality this was part of their recently awakened blood demon art. Their blood art prevented Muzan from reading their mind and causing very real hallucinations to occur when they make contact with their victim. Escaping their father was top priority, as the experimentations he had put his offspring through were less than pleasant. From being thrown into the sun and getting half cooked to being forced to feed off all ages of people, it was hell.
The close monitoring of Y/N's every move was making them insane. The half human in them kept them sane.
Once spacing the demon king, Y/N found little use for themself, being half demon didn't help when you had to travel in the sun. But through all the trouble and hardships, they found their way to being recruited as a demon slayer and eventually the Tsuguko to the sound hashira due to their "flashy" nature, his words not mine. Now that Y/N was free from their father's control they have decided to take it easy as their life as a demon slayer. Hiding in plain sight from both Muzan and the Demon Slayer corps as they continue on with their life like any normal person, or demon in their case. But even if they were free Y/N couldn't help but feel lonely, knowing that they were the only one to have a secret as big as theirs.
That was until they met the tall and brooding teenager going by the name Shinazugawa Genya.
They smelt the demon blood in him, it wasn't even that hard either. The two teens soon quickly became friends, and Y/N was estatic about it. Never had they ever had a friend their own age, though Uzui and his wives were nice to them, it felt more like a teacher and student relationship. Not that Y/N would ever admit but the first time they met Genya they couldn't help but do a double take. His rough exterior attracted the softer Y/N in so many ways. The black haired demon was very awkward around Y/N at first, blatantly refusing to talk to them sometimes out of embarrassment. But as the weeks passed the teens became closer, both in friendship and something akin to desire blooming. When the time felt right Y/N decided to finally reveal their secret to the weaker demon.
The ordeal went better than expected. Genya was obviously startled at the sudden revelation, but also comforted in knowing that he wasn't the only demon with in the corps that was made to kill their kind. As time passed the demons' relationship grew larger, Genya had even developed a quite apparent crush on the fellow demon seeing as they trained together very often, which caused them to get in promiscuous positions every now and then leaving him blushing. These actions always make him quit training a early so he can go back to his room and whip out his cock. Humping his pillows, imagining it was Y/N's plush thighs he was fucking instead. He always came quick to the thought of Y/N, but that doesn't mean he doesn't make himself cum 2-3 more times from more scenarios he could make up for the two. And Y/N was innocent either, their own desire for Genya flowered. The tall male just made Y/N's heart throb, he was their age and kind to them. And never having experienced love before Y/N was hesitant to express their feelings, terrified that Genya wouldn't feel the same way. Ever since Genya's crush became more profound he couldn't help but be more horny in his movements and actions, wanting to impress Y/N and show his dominance.
Even hinting in his words that the two should get some alone time, but with Y/N being slightly dense and not having experienced anything like that, he was always met with an innocent response.
At this point his lust for Y/N was too strong for his hormonal teenage body to stand. There was one time Y/N backed up into him while training and he couldn't help grabbing them by the hips and pulling them against his own, almost grinding on them but stopped himself. Leaving quickly as to not let them see the tent in his pants, Y/N standing there rightfully confused that the now fleeing Genya. That night he had a particularly long session of imaging what Y/N could do to him.
But soon his wishes would be granted. One day while training, both Y/N and Genya's bodies were moving in a quick rhythm as their wooden swords clashed against each other. Sounds of wooden clacking and scrapping filled the small clearing in the secluded forest, leaving them in a private space as to not bother others while training. One final time Their swords met and Genya just happened to overpower Y/N's swing. Swiping his sword in a downward motion caused Y/N's to be pushed to the ground and pinned under his sword. His body also moved to pin them to the ground, as his lower half kept theirs to the ground and his arms caged their top half.
Panting, and clearly out of breathe, the two exchanged a look. Y/N's now discarded sword laid beside them, Genya taking the chance to pull a slightly cringey move. Quickly adjusting his hands on the sword he brought it to lodge itself in the dirt beside their face. They flinched at the sudden movement but eventually huffed at the move pulled. Lying limp under the tall and brooding male that kept their soft body pinned to the ground.
Genya leaned down to be level with Y/N's face, grinning. “I win." His words made Y/N whine out in faux sorrow. but quickly giggling, finding the situation funny. Their body started to feel sore from being pushed against the ground, some small rocks deciding it would be a good time to lodge themselves into their back. They looked back up at the ravenette, his eyes grazing their body, but they waited a moment, confused why he hasn't moved off of them yet and the look he just gave them. Just as they were finally about to ask him to get off of them, something hard found it's way to poke at their ass.
"No way." Y/N gasped at the foreign feeling, but not an unwelcoming one. Genya's gave shifted to one of horror as he noticed that Y/N had noticed his raging hard on.
Want to quickly deescalate the situation he moved back a little bit, but Y/N's curiosity got the best of them and they shifted a little bit. A groan escaped Genya's chest, eyes opening wide in embarrassment as he slapped a hand over his mouth. The noise he produced made something inside Y/N light up, like a moth to a flame. They watched as they moved their hips against his again, the prettified expression combined with the furious blush on his face made him look so cute in their eyes. Wanting to hear more of his noise, Y/N took his hand from his face and held it in their own, before moving their hips up and down the now protruding length with their ass. He fit like the piece of the puzzle Y/N was missing. Lodged perfectly in the crook of their ass.
Genya's head threw back ass he let out a throaty gasp at the sudden pleasure Y/N brought him. "Ah, fuck, Genya couldn't help the way his hips started to move along with theirs. With a sudden boost of confidence, Y/N bunched the bottom of Genya's shirt up to watch his abs. The rhythm in which his hips rolled to match Y/N's own moment, made his abs clench and stretch with every roll.
The sight made something in them go feral, feeling their core start to heat up at the erotic display. The new feeling made Y/N squirm from their place under Genya, an actual whine eliciting from their throat. Now it was Genya's turn to go feral at the noises they produced. With impatient hands he moved his hand from Y/N's hold and down to his belt. He stumbled slightly when trying to unbuckle his belt.
Eventually he got it unbuckled and ripped the belt off, drool starting to pool in Y/N's mouth at Genya's desperation to continue their actions. Assisting him with shaky hands, Y/N placed a hand on his lower abs, dragging it down until it met the top of his pants. They looked up for approval, only meeting Genya's blushing face. He furiously nodded, accepting Y/N's offer with his predicament. The button of his pants quickly came undone, and once it did Genya shoved his pants down to free his erection. His cock slapped against his lower stomach at the sudden freedom, a short grunt escaping Genya at the cold air now encapsulating his dick. Y/N took a moment to observe Genya's little friend, well, not so little friend. The mushroom tip was already leaking as pearly beads slid down it. Prominent veins decorated the thick length, curly black hair adorned the base.
He gulped at Y/N's staring, eyes darting away, all of a sudden feeling self-conscious. His whole body jolted as something wrapped around his length. Y/N's hand brushed up it, before gently encasing around it. Though acting confident, their shaking hands gave them away. With pleading eyes, Y/N looked up at him. "Genya, please, they paused, taking a moment to choose their next words carefully, licking their lips, "I want you.”
Genya swallowed, their words lighting a fire in his lower stomach. Only one feeling slightly embarrassed when his cock twitched in excitement in Y/N's hand. "Of course Y/N." With no more words exchanged, he leaned his top half down to lay against theirs. His lips hastily finding theirs as they molded together, tongues quick to find each other. As they sloppily made out, Genya shifted both of their positions, pulling Y/N's body closer to his and moving their legs up on either side of his hips. Lifting his chest off theirs a little bit, he moved a hand to start unbuttoning their slayer uniform, a hand keeping their hips in place. Y/N still had their hand on his cock, now slowly stroking it.
With Y/N's uniform top now completely unbuttoned, it slid down to lay loosely around their body. Their cute chest now exposed to the hungry male. His eyes Turing predatory as he observed Y/N's now exposed chest. The hand not holding their hips down moved up to their chest, delicately cupping it. His hand was big and warm, making Y/N gasp into the kiss as he squeezed at their chest.
With their lips still moving against each other, Genya's hand unexpectedly pinched Y/N's nipple. A loud whimper was shot into the kiss as their back arched off the ground and into the big hand holding their chest. Trying their best, Y/N attempted to grind down on Genya, but the hand holding their hip held them down. The sloppy kiss was broken by Y/N shoving their face into Genya's shoulder as he continued his actions of pinching and squeezing on their sensitive nipples. Their hand moved away from his dick, their arms now wrapped around the males neck. He whined at the loss of the feeling of Y/N's hand. Wanting to see the now submissive demons face, Genya pushed the shivering Y/N away from his shoulder and into the ground. The feeling of his heart beat in his cock was prevalent as the fingers digging into his shoulders. When he pulled away he saw the disheveled look on Y/N's face, drool sliding down the side of their face and now down their neck.
Fuck, he couldn't bare to wait any longer. Y/N's adorable whines made him want to push them up against the nearest tree and breed them for hours, or at least until their throat went raw from crying out his name. The arms over his shoulder shifted slightly, before something tugged harshly on his hair. Now it was his turn to arch his back, the stinging feeling leaving his eyes teary and a deep groan to escape his chest. Looking down at Y/N he saw them slyly smirking up at him. He dove down to kiss Y/N again, this time more intense than the previous one. After a few moments of exploring each others mouth, they separated, leaving a long thick string of saliva to connect them. The string of saliva broke and landed on Y/N's face, making them flinch and go cross eyed at the goop of saliva that now later over the bridge of their nose.
Chuckling at the silly display, Genya brought a hand up to wipe the spit away. Y/N appreciated this, until she saw him slip the saliva covered finger into his mouth and lick it away. Their hole clenched around nothing at the view. His face showing a teasing expression at the blushing demon. Wanting revenge at his teasing, Y/N trailed a hand secretly down in between their bodies before…
"Oh fuck~!"
Genya whined out, the rough contact of their warm hand made him buck his hips into it. Y/N moved their hand at a speedy rhythm, to through the once dominant male for a loop as he doubled over and whimpered. Pre-cum leaked thickly from the tip of his penis and over Y/N's knuckles.
Genya, who had finally regained the slightest composure, wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine. He reached towards the buckle of their belt and skillfully took it off along with unbuttoning their pants. Without a care, Genya used some of that demon strength to literally rip off Y/N's pants, which made them yell a 'Hey!' at him annoyed. Caught in the moment of currently being jerked off by a warm hand and the recent adrenaline of training, he swiped their panties to the side and tested the waters by tapping a finger against their hole. Causing them to gasp out and tug at his hair.
Intertwining their fingers into the messy hair. A warm slick greeted his index finger. And soon he was plunging 3 fingers deep into Y/N as they moaned out his name. As the two teens fondled each other, night started to fall. Leaving the two bathed in only the glow of the setting sun, making the scene all the more intimate. Feeling his cock twitch in their hand, Y/N jerked a little harder than before as they watched his abs clench and him letting out a curse. Cum squirted out and onto Y/N's bare stomach, some flicking up and onto his own abs.
Y/N, who felt extremely close to the edge, did something that made Genya hard again. As his fingers continued the wrecked Y/N's hole, a hand came down from Genya's Mohawk to swipe some of the cum off their stomach, bringing it up to their lips to lap up the salty liquid, making eye contact with Genya as they did so. His eyes were now dark and clouded as he watched the scene unfold. Soon his cock came twitching back to life as Y/N's legs started to close around his hips as they were about to cum.
The warm hole wrapped around Genya's fingers tighten, leaving his fingers stuck in them as they came hard. Both at the feeling of his fingers curving up to hit their g-spot and the taste of his cum. Genya could feel the cum start to flow out of them and through his fingers, leaving a sticky mess in his palm. Genya pulled out his now drenched fingers once Y/N relaxed around them. Not wasting a second he pulled up Y/N's slightly limp body and layed them over a nearby log, hips high up in the air. He stood tall behind the bent over Y/N, stroking his cock in preparation for what was to come next. Two fingers came to thrust into their hole, making sure that they were properly stretched before Genya kneeled down and brought his hand back and quickly jerked his dick off, moving it down to graze Y/N's now leaking hole. Y/N gasped at the grazing touch, back arching as they tried to present themself more to the scarred male. Plush ass and thighs inviting the muscular teen to fuck them silly. Asking for consent to continue, he was met with a nod from Y/N's end, making eye contact with him and pleading from him to get inside them already. With no further waiting, he grabbed the slightly smaller teen by the hips and started to push the mushroom tip of his cock into Y/N. He was met with some resistance as this was clearly both of their first times. Their back arched in pain as Genya pushed past their hymen, one of the hands holding them up moved back to hold Genya's hand that was placed on their hip, comforted by the feeling of him.
Slowly, he continued to push deep into Y/N, pelvic bone finally meeting their ass. They had never felt so full, the stretch of Genya's cock made them want to be fucked like this every single day. The stretch was just so addicting. Y/N was able to feel every vein that grazed their walls, even being able to see a slight bulge in through their stomach where the tip of his dick pushed against their cervix.
Once the two accommodated to the new and extreme feeling, Genya drew his hips back a little, before pushing back into Y/N. This small movement elicited a moan from deep in Y/N, the feeling addicting. Just the sound alone was enough to make Genya continue his light thrusting, every time his hips met their ass they moaned out loud, no longer ashamed of being loud. He began to speed up, an obvious sound now present as their hips met. A loud Schlick ran though the air with a particular hard thrust. The thrust made Y/N arch their back and claw against the ground, drool starting to seep from the corners of their mouth.
Biting down on his lower lip to keep from moaning to loud, Genya started to thrust harder, a clap resonating through the forest clearing. Drool seeped from the corners of his mouth as he turned feral, his thrusts sloppy and uncoordinated. Every roll of his hips made Y/N melt into his touch, the feeling borderline heavenly. The grooves of Y/N's hole made him weak in the knees, but no matter how weak his knees felt he didn't stop thrusting hard into the submissive demon. Their bodies were drenched in sweat, both partially covered in cum as well. Feeling that knot starting to form in his stomach, he somehow got rougher, a white ring formed around the base of his dick from fucking Y/N's creamy hole. Slick coated every inch of his cock, the gooey white ring around it started to drip onto their thighs and down the log underneath them. He started to observe the body under him. Their back was arched in an almost painful looking way, shoulder blades tense. The recoil of their ass from his hips hitting it made him feel like he was going mad, as he stared when it bounced against him. Deciding to drape himself over Y/N, he kissed and licked at the back of their neck, leaving love bites in his wake. The new angle made him hit Y/N's g-spot, making them clench harshly around his thick length. The sensation made Genya growl lowly, savagely starting to suck on their neck leaving love bites all around. The knot in Y/N's stomach started to snap as the bit into their wrist, drawing blood.
Screaming through their now covered mouth their whole body shook as they came from Genya abusing their g-spot. A clear white liquid squirting out of their hole. His own breath hitched when Y/N's walls harshly clenched down on him, making him groan loudly before closing his teeth around the back of their neck, biting down hard.
Squealing at the pain, pleasure, and overstimulation, Y/N's arms gave out and their front half collapsed as Genya's hips never ceased to stop moving. Three more harsh thrusts and finally he was cumming inside them, the hot liquid making them feel strange. Coming down from both of their highs, gently, the twos faces found their way to each other, meeting in a gentle kiss. The rest of the night consisted of two new lovers resting and taking care of each other at the expense of their new found love.
BONUS:
Warm puffs of air hit Y/N's face, gently raising them from their peaceful slumber. They found themself wrapped in a pair of muscular arms. Turning to find the perpetrator, Y/N was met with the sleeping face of Genya. He look so serene, so Y/N gently leaned into press a kiss to his forehead, before snuggling back into his arms. As sleep started to deep into their mind, Y/N was rudely awaken by thundering footsteps and the sound of their bedroom door open. "Y/N WHERE WERE YOU FOR TRAINING-" Uzi was stop in his tracks, absolutely petrified by the scene in front of him. At the sound of the bedroom door slamming open, Y/N drearily looked up to see what was going on, still half asleep and a now awakening Genya beside them. Half lidded eyes explored to the room, that was until they shot open at the scene of their fumming mentor. A expression that can only be called mortified graces both the teens face at the sound hashira.
"H-hey Uzu-"
"WHAT THE FUCK-"
