GGY week day 6: Everybody lives/nobody dies
so this is a pretty specific au that needs some backstory. basically i have this theory that dr rabbit hasn’t just not shown up yet but is actually dead. since vanny killed glitchtrap at the end of hw2, i have this theory i’ve posted about before that vanny killed dr rabbit pre-sb and that’s how gregory got freed
so in this case that didn’t happen, PLUS rab is a good guy. gregory is a bit on edge about rab being there at first, but eventually after rab doesn’t kill people and is away from vanny and mimic and 3 star fam is actually kinda pleasant (not that he’d say that) he’s like wait a minute.
and instead of being ‘dormant’ and not 3 star fams enemy he kinda just becomes apart of the family. no ulterior motives no nothing he just is on their side for real now and prefers them. along the way he’s able to be a real kid and play gregory’s video games and draw and he likes it a lot. so he just starts to realize hey i don’t like to kill people and want to be normal. gregory can we go to walmart and buy shopkin blind box? i think my favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip.
meanwhile gregory having someone that hijacked his body and ruined his life still in there when he’s supposed to be free is very anxiety inducing. i think he’d hate rab taking over without permission (which he did a lot at first) and it’d scare him and cause him to be on edge a lot. eventually rab starts to actually care and respects gregory’s boundaries and figures out that being nice is pretty cool. it’s also easier for both of them. and eventually after things blow over a bit i think gregory would work on a temporary robot form for rab to roam around on his own (like a cheap animatronic robot. like those little dogs) and he’d get some peace.
but i think rab is always going to share gregory’s head with him since he wouldn’t have his own hands to draw and play video games so. i think that becomes easier for both of them and feels less intrusive.they bond a lot
#kinda loving this au even though i have something currently secret in my head similar#but. this applies to that in the worst way#if i ever talk about it or straight up write the fic you’ll get it#fnaf#gregory fnaf#fnaf security breach#fnaf fanart#fnaf gregory#dr. rabbit#dr rabbit#au#gregory#drawing tag#ggy week 2024#my dr rabbit

Nightmare Time 2 Episode 3 Thoughts
I didn't get a chance to do this last time so I'm doing it now because I really do love these episodes
MIAH?!?!?!?
Can we talk about how good Jaime is at making music videos? This and Where I Wanna Be are amazing
Ok but where did Jaime get those Care Bear plushies? They look like they're from the iteration I grew up with and I want them
Jeff sounds SO good
If I remember correctly, Jaime said that Andrew noticed her nips in the bathtub scene and she had to edit them out. Thank god he caught that omg. And great editing on Jaime's part.
I love how passionate Frank is about Toyzone. He truly cares for this place.
OOOOUuUuUTT!!!
Death to Bezos
This is so TRAGIC!!!! Not Buddy please no!
I wish Miss Retro's was real so bad it feels like the most vibey place ever. This is the type of place teens in 80s movies hang out. Mutuals I want to be teens in 80s movies with.
STAAHP I'M SAAD
Jaime is so good as Sherman
Sugar Gliders seems like something I would have LOVED when I was little. Honestly I'd probably still enjoy it now.
Frank that is weird to say that right in front of Sherman
SHERMAN DON'T SAY THAT
I want his dino bowtie so much
Don't shame me!
Oh hello Lurch Marco
Ok but can we talk about how next episode we see how quickly the CaliforMIA trio had to grow up because of their financial circumstance. Like Sherman isn't wrong in his statement but his thinking behind it is
Call him out Holloway
Frank I love you but that was a douche move. She has mouths to feed at home!
"I'm not going anywhere." Can anyone tell me what foreshadowing is?
Oh uh uh I do not like this. Bad vibes. Bad vibes! Shelia stop that right now. Please don't treat Frank like your servant. Not the black man, you rich white woman.
Oh hi Becky :D
SheLIA WHAT THE HECK HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING
PLEASE HE'S SUFFERED ENOUGH
Why do I want all of Sherman's stuff? Gimme the dino jammies!
YES TELL HER OFF FRANK
WAIT STOP SHERMAN DID NOTHING WRONG! DON'T TAKE HIS STUFF!!
Do you think Sheila's ever gone "Pull the lever, Marco. WRONG LEVER!" Because I do
It's a nightmare TIME. Get it right Frank
BARRY SWIFT!?!?! This name works on multiple levels and I love it. It works as a pun and a Flash reference.
Stop I'm sad again
Two weeks and your done grieving?
I wish rich people would do more cool stuff with their money! They're so boring and stupid. Give me your money if you're not going to use it properly
Oh hello Feast Or Famine
#Barlen #Helry #OTPIAH
The acting skills Frank
This episode is making me miss Toys R Us. Or when I went on my monthly trips to Claire's for Shopkins
I do kinda feel bad for Sherman in all of this. It's not his fault he was raised to believe he deserved his privilege simply because he was born with it. Frank really could've made him better if Shelia allowed him to
Shelia is brutal. She really didn't need to kill Ted
Frank is so good. He meant it when he told Barry that they were both making it out. He really wanted to and tried his best. And him saying sorry to Lex-
M-Make?!
So is Shelia part of the cult herself or does she just have access to it through Sherman's father
"I did." SHE THOUGHT! GET HER!
Frank: 👁👄👁
So like. does he have to get re-enrolled into school or?
Sherman. Babe. I know you're experience with being parented isn't the best but they don't usually do whatever you want them to
Yall Corey killed it. Never did I think I'd care about Frank this much
I LOVE NEEDY BEAST SO MUCH!
THRASH IS SO FUNNY! THIS FIGHT IS SO FUNNY! LITERALLY NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING
Wait I just remembered the end! Kale's introduction is tragic actually. He just wants to die
Hey! Dennys is for the theater kids! Not the punk rockers!
This flirting is so awkward. They both think they're so edgy. Calm down sweeties
Not the "Hiya, Duke. Thanks for coming." Dblwjhslfnjd so he's that type of dad
I love Duke. He's trying not to overwhelm Rose and trying to make her feel comfortable with him. He's showing he has similar interests and trying to make her laugh and showing her that he'll listen. He's good at his job!
Rose looks like she's trying so hard to hide her fear. She looks so uncomfortable but she has to keep up the punk front. Guys she doesn't care at all trust her
What's wrong with Barbie, Rosarie?
Yo Holloway kinda scary ngl
She read you like a book and ripped you to shreds dang
Rose is adorable
God I forgot how demonic the killer track actually sounded. OOUOUUWAAHAHAHAH Jeff understood the assignment jeez
Shh bby don't think. Eat your pie. Everything's ok
The mess up in blowing out the candle
Duke. My guy. We all have the same knowledge you do.
DUKE! MY GUY! LISTEN TO HER!
Why doesn't he just like. move?
This must've been the craziest night for Rose. She met a witch and is now (in her eyes) responsible for her death
KITTY! So much pet lore this season
What??
Duke: :0
CAME TO HATCHETFIELD FROM WHERE?!?!???
Aww she keeps telling him even though she knows he'll never remember :(
Dude that's so much smoke!
HAILEY-
Wait why does she have honey for that?
Ted let me see you be kinder to your brother first and then we'll see about your own kids
POTSEED!!
THRASH IS SO FUNNY! I LOVE HIM AND COURTNEY! I LOVE THEIR VOICES!
Kale kinda cute ngl
Yes 👏👏 the character arc we needed. They're done being try-hard edgelords
Kale does not seem like he's strong enough to punch her that hard. Did the killer track give you super strength? I'm guessing since he also knocked out the audio guy
Skud looks like he has no idea what's going on (and tbf no one does). Thrash is stressed out of his mind. Needy Beast is funny
This music video is so great!!!!!
Noooo I don't want Kale to die :( I wanted him to get help!!
Rose: 👁👄👁
Holloway!!! Letting him have his moment of glory
This is SO. TRAGIC. Holloduke is tragic guys
Soooo what kind of potential do we have with Holloway Holiday working at Hannah's school?
I LOVE THIS VERSION OF THE THEME SO MUCH! I recorded the end of it back in November and I love listening to it every once in a while. The. Vibes. Also Irish Becky is back!

2019 Art Summary!
It's that time again when we all look back on the year we've had and reflect, and then look forward to what's to come in the New Year. This only my second year doing a yearly Art Summary piece (I didn't miss February like I did last year!) but I'm grateful for the tradition now. Looking back, 2019 had a lot going on for me and my art; I started out not that different from how I've been handling my art and myself online for the past couple of years, but as the year went on, I feel like I've done a lot of growing, finding myself, and even though I didn't start off in a terrible place, I think I'm in a much better one now. This really was a year of tremendous personal growth for me, both in art and just in life, and I can only hope that continues through the New Year and beyond. (As sappy as that is to say, I really mean it.) That said, let's look back on 2019 in a little more detail, shall we? January: Birthday Wishes I actually didn't have a ton of options to choose from for this month, as I think I was a little burnt out from the last couple of months in 2018 and giving myself some breathing room. Still, this Shopkin colored to match my actual birthday cake actually remains one of my favorite mixed media pieces I've done. I don't know why, there's just something I really enjoy about how it turned out, for as simple as it is. And for the record, I think I will be doing another custom Shopkin drawing for my birthday again this year, but I haven't decided anything beyond that yet. February: Floating Away (+ Time Lapse!) So as I mentioned earlier, on last year's Art Summary I discovered I didn't have any submissions dated in February and I hadn't yet gotten in the habit of documenting completion dates for my artwork, and so I didn't have an artwork to put there that I could definitively say was done in February. This year, however, February was actually one of my busiest months and I had a pretty wide variety to choose from. I ended up going with my little hot air balloon, as while it's a bit different from my normal work, I still think it's really cute and it also represents one of my attempts to start making videos of my artwork...Which I've been too lazy to do since the few attempts I did during this month... But who knows? I have a better camera and slightly larger workspace at my disposal, so perhaps I'll try again and be a little less lazy about that in 2020. March: Once a Killjoy, Always a Killjoy Oh boy, if past-me had only known what was to come later this year! March saw a lot of pieces from me practicing with watercolor and new supplies, but I think my favorite to come out of the month was my annual artwork to honor March 22nd, the anniversary of when My Chemical Romance, my favorite band, broke up. Only this time instead of doing pure fanart, I made myself into a Killjoy for the occasion. (The design of which needs to be revamped a little because my hair is purple now, but that just means I already have one option for the anniversary this coming year!) And once again, this is a mixed media piece that I look back on very fondly. The concept is fun and the end result looks pretty cool. April: Doodle Moon I leaned pretty heavily into honing my watercolor craft in April, and among those efforts, this one is definitely my favorite. (Even if it doesn't fit on this template very nicely ) This one was a bit of an experiment in branching my traditional and digital art together in a different way, and I still really love how it turned out. Although unfortunately, I've yet to return to this technique, simply because I feel weird a lot of the time about "half finishing" a traditional piece and then making a lot of modifications to it digitally. It feels like cheating or being fake in a way to me. But I think I get that hangover from the concept of editing photos online and then passing them off as real & unedited...in which case it's a personal problem that I just need to deal with on my own. May: Butterfly Babe I didn't have a ton of artwork in May, but what I did have were usually bigger/more involved pieces, and this one is no different. I think 2019 is the year when I really came into owning my love for mixed media (which comes in large part from "I'm not good at x thing with y supply, but I can do x effect with z supply really well!") and this piece is a really great example of that. Once again, still one of my favorites and the scan really doesn't do it just with all the sparkle/metallic accents I incorporated. And I think I want to do more involved almost crafty projects like this more often, but that usually comes down to having the right inspiration to make it happen. June: Bug Girl Funnily enough, June 2019 is now my busiest month of all-time (in the almost 9 years I've been here on dA), and yet I only had one "real" piece of art for the Summary. This was the month when I really got heavy into making my own Swatch Charts/Swatching Resources, and while some did carry over into July, the bulk of it was posted in June. I have to say, I don't think a ton of other people are using the charts, but I've certainly been getting good use out of them! And if I'm being honest I mostly wanted them for my own personal use anyway. But for the artwork that you see here, this is another mixed media piece, this time commemorating one of my favorite books I've read this year, How to Make Friends with the Dark by Kathleen Glasgow. The artwork itself had some annoying problems in development, but the result is really beautiful to me, and so I think it was worth it in the end. July: Homemade Mini Sketchbooks! This month is more of a craft project than artwork, but I couldn't help myself as these little sketchbooks I made myself are probably one of my most favorite projects I did in 2019, and these first two spawned many more afterward. It's funny to me because I've always wanted a way to combine my loves of books and art beyond just illustrating my writing (which isn't always something I feel like doing) and this, while maybe not a perfect solution, is definitely a unique way to do that. Plus, while making each book does take a little while, it is usually a pretty fun process now that I've gotten the better hang of it. These first two books aren't perfect, but they kicked off something I think I'll be sporadically doing for a good while to come. August: Mon Cher It feels like a lot happening this month, despite not having quite as much art as other months this past year. The month started off with the end of our family vacation, and I posted a journal when I got back where you can see that part of the reason this month felt so busy is that this is probably when I had the most new art supplies available to me to test out/play with during the year, including some items that I got at the tail end of July. Out of the options I had though, this artwork seemed like the best choice to represent this month, as just like in April I leaned pretty heavily into using and practicing with watercolors and painting in general (as I dipped my toes into seriously painting with Acrylics this month too) and this is one of my more ambitious watercolor pieces. As I said when I first posted it, it has its mistakes and growing pains, but I still think it's really lovely. September: Fly By the Moon I was actually surprised, looking back, at how busy September was. My second acrylic painting (this one more in-depth than the first), an array of cute kitty drawings which have sort of become a series now, some personal pieces, and two contest entries. (One of which actually won!) I went with the acrylic painting since I'm still very proud of how it turned out, given that I don't use acrylics terribly often and hardly ever I go for realism (even semi-realism like this painting) either. Plus, this one is a nice memory of the two real luna moths that visited us, and I had to admit that it is just really nice to have a full painting on a canvas to hang up too. I haven't done much more with acrylic painting yet, but I definitely want to. My main issue is that for me it's hard deciding on a good subject for the way I like to paint that I don't feel like would look equally as good if not better with a different medium. But hopefully, I'll find more excuses to break out the acrylics in 2020. October: Ink Dance Oh boy, what a month this was! Inktober, new mini-magnets, trying gouache for the first time, and on the very last day the news of the decade (at least for me) that My Chemical Romance is back! I followed my same principle as the art summary last year where it just doesn't feel fair to pick a favorite Inktober or use the wrap-up picture, so that left me with my gouache pieces or this one that looks more like a normal person's Inktober artwork, and out of my options, this is the one I like best. The gouache paintings aren't bad, I just need more practice and this one has more charm to me. And it's also funny to me that I was so concerned about ending up hating this one for the stippling and yet it turned out to be one of my favorites from this year. November: I will be with You The artwork for this month was pretty much a no-contest. I made this piece as a love letter to My Chemical Romance after the news of their Return, and likewise, I poured my heart and soul into it. It just might be one of my most favorite artworks to date; perhaps even worthy of being a "portfolio piece" on my website. Even more so after the fact now that I've seen the Return concert (albeit over a Livestream and not in person because California is like 2-3,000 miles away from me ). I was pretty busy throughout the month trying to keep up with a prompt challenge from Art Philosophy, but even so, I pushed myself to get this piece done and I'm so glad I did. December: Daises on Strawberry Hill Ah, and here we are at the very last. It's funny, the first half of this month seemed to drag by pretty slowly, but then after the second week things picked up pretty quickly (what with the Return concert and all) and I have to agree with my mom that Christmas went by so fast we almost missed that it happened at all. I don't have as much to show for this month, but that's in large part because I've been taking time off for my mental health and to spend time with and enjoy my family. I'm pretty happy with everything I produced this month, but my Looking for Alaska inspired art is definitely my favorite of the bunch. It's very graphic-design-ish and despite at the time having been done rather quickly and not super precisely, looking at it now it reads very cleanly. It's a little outside my normal art realm, but if anything I think that makes it stronger on its own. I'm still chipping away at my longer review of the Hulu series I originally made it to talk about (like I said when I posted it, I have a lot of thoughts I want to talk about and not rush through), so I am indeed still planning on finishing and posting those...I just don't know when that'll be, considering I've already got a bit of a content schedule for myself going into the New Year, but eventually! Eventually, it'll be done! Overall, I'm honestly very happy with what I've managed to accomplish this year. Just like last year, I did a lot of experimenting with new supplies and new mediums--this time some I thought I'd never touch--and I hit even more milestones, including my first Daily Deviation in November. I feel like I've grown significantly more as an artist and a person this year though than I did last year. And in many ways, I feel like this year has renewed my confidence in my own skills and work. I'm not much of a "New Years' Resolution" type person, as I think the concept as tied to that particular phrase has been...I'll be generous and say overinflated and mistreated...but some of my Art Goals for 2020 are: Post more consistently/regularly (which I worked on a lot in 2019 too) Be more active & engaged on social media (I've already started working on this a little, but for some reason, this is honestly kind of hard for me as I always debate what's worth sharing online and what isn't ) Promote me and my work/art outlets more (Also something I find hard to do) Keep experimenting (Not really a goal so much as my artistic state of existence but whatever ) This past year has been one heck of a wild ready, but I'm more than ready to see what 2020 has in store for me. Cheers for the New Year ahead! ____ Artwork © me, MysticSparkleWings Art Summary Template: 2019 Summary of Art Template (Blank) ____ Where to find me & my artwork: My Website | Commission Info + Prices | Ko-Fi | dA Print Shop | RedBubble | Twitter | Tumblr | Instagram

HAIRDORABLES/LOL Comparison
I picked up a “Hairdorables” surprise doll at my local Target in order to compare the unboxing experience and the dolls themselves to the L.O.L. Dolls I have recently become obsesssed with.
The “Hairdorables” have only 1 series so far. I love this because it feels like I didn’t miss out on the beginning of the collecting curve, and like I don’t have a bunch to catch up on. There are 12 different characters, and each girl has a standard, exclusive, and ultra exclusive version that is available. It’s, of course, a surprise which one you’ll open, which I also love.
I will say, so far, that I love her more by the minute, whereas the L.O.L. Dolls usually immediately make my heart swell, for some reason.
First, a few photos of the unboxing process and my initial comments:
I think the box that she comes in is really neat. It folds out into a play area setting with a little cardboard stage on the bottom and a colorful background that I’m gonna love to use for doll photos. Each surprise came in like, a ketchup looking peel-open container. I can’t say I like this more or less than the blind bags that are in the L.O.L. Packaging. They’re both really fun to open! Everything in this package is just a hint larger than the accessories for L.O.L. Most noteably, those bulky plastic boots. For reference, check out the short post featuring Countess; there is a photo of the shoes I unboxed for her there as well as some other tiny adorable shit.
Now, some photos of Harmony! This purple sparkly cloth dress, black and purple high-top boots, bow-tie, and guitar accessory are all included in in her signature/most common look: “Harmony Rocks”.
The smaller, plastic dress black and pink dress that she’s in at the end is one of the L.O.L. Fashion Crush series items. It’s really short on her, but it definitely fits her shoulders quite nicely! I think she looks really good in it.
Post Unboxing
Pricing difference- at my local Target, an L.O.L. Eye Spy Series capsule is about 14 dollars and the HAIRDORABLES is near 12. Granted, the L.O.L. markets as having 15 total surprises, and the HAIRDORABLES box says it has 11 surprises. That being said, after the stickers and paper products that don’t really do much for me except for labeling the dolls I have already acquired; in the end both dolls come with one pair of shoes, a complete outfit, and 1/2 accessories. I would say the number of products inside each of the packages is very similar.
Amount of waste- this is all just estimation because I didn’t do any real measuring at all but it does seem that the amount of trash after opening the HAIRDORABLES box seems to be less than with the L.O.L.’s. When I was finished opening each doll, I found it was easier to organize and throw away the plastic for the HAIRDORABLES than for the L.OL.
The cardboard fold-out box for the HAIRDORABLES versus the capsule that the L.O.L. dolls come in seems to be of an obvious lesser quality than the hard, plastic colorful capsules that the L.O.L. dolls are safely snuggled in latex inside of. Opening an L.O.L. is almost like a birthing process to me; having to pull off the rubbery, placenta-like encasing that she lie nude in, piece by piece. There is a certain way that I take it off every time, too. Eyes first.
But the cardboard HAIRDORABLES box is very artistic looking, and photogenic I think. I’ll use it in my comic strips probably in upcoming posts, haha.
Unboxing Experience- oh I think I went in on this in the above answer. I think, now you know I’m weird as fuck. 💁🏼♀️
Quality of Accessories- I like that the HAIRDORABLES clothing is actual cloth instead of plastic, but it's not as cute to me as the L.O.L. clothes. I guess it’s because the little plastic outfits are more unique to me than all of the Barbie clothes I have seen my whole life. The L.O.L. accessories are so cute and well-themed, and I absolutely love to find a teeny tiny facial mark or tattoo on one of their chubby little bodies. I am definitely going to play with getting some wigs for my L.O.L. dolls and knit clothing as well. That, I think, will really make me prefer them after-all. It will really make them perfect. Anyone know of any artists who make L.O.L. wigs?! 😋 The HAIRDORABLES don’t (that I know of) have any outfits and accessories available separately, I’m not sure that there is much available online yet. Also, the HAIRDORABLES doll comes dressed in her clothes, with the shoes wrapped as a surprise, whereas the L.O.L. doll comes either nudey or with little (sometimes color changing) undies and bra, making the outfit itself one of the surprises before you’re able to see the doll. I like that there is more to do with the L.O.L. wardrobe. I can go to Target or something if I’m bored, or only want to spend 5 bucks on toys that day (yeah, right) and pick up a couple L.O.L. “Fashion Crush” pods to re-dress my existing dolls in. I am growing to like the rubber clothing more and more, too. So far, I have so many more L.O.L.’s than HAIRDORABLES accessories. I am learning how to put on and take the clothes off easier. I used to be like, pulling frustratingly on sleeves and arms and shit haha. I also like how the entire doll (rubber hair, clothes, and all) remains pretty resilient in my backpack or pocket all day. The L.O.L. dolls come with baby bottles and pacifiers, and the HAIRDORABLES come with things like a skateboard and a guitar. I also love the cute little cardboard I.D. card that each HAIRDORABLES came with. Good for collecting.
Quality/cuteness of Dolls- Both of these dolls are really well made for their prices. Both have a nice weight to them for their size, and both have 5 points of articulation: neck, both shoulders, and the pelvis at each leg. I would fucking LOVE if the next wave of either of these dolls had knee joints, but that’s a cheapskate’s BJD fantasy.
ANYWAY. Each L.O.L. doll is able to perform one water action: spit, pee, squirt out of her ears, cry, or color change. In order to figure out which one of these actions your doll performs once unboxing, you fill her head with water (either via her water bottle or by dunking her under water) and then bring her back up, squeeeeeeeeeze, and see what happens. The color change ability is exposed with both hot and ice cold water. It’s by far the coolest ability. This makes playing with these dolls, as well as watching the unboxing and now “testing” videos on Youtube super fun. The fact that they are not only completely water proof, but are made to play in the water is genius to me. And, another reason for rubber hair and remove-able wigs! aha! These dolls remind me definitely more of a baby doll than a Barbie or any other kind of action figure doll. They have cute little bulging bellies, and big, doe-y, innocent eyes. The HAIRDORABLES do not have any play options like this, but they are still super cute and do each have a story to tell. They remind me of a BRATZ doll, and have more of a teenage girl feel to their personality. They have longer, lean legs and a thinner torso than the L.O.L. My Favorite part about the HAIRDORABLES dolls is their large head and sweet painted faces. Oh, and obviously their HAIR! It is so silky soft, and super do-able. I sat on the living room floor and french braided my second doll, Skylar’s purple hair last night.
Size of Dolls- HAIRDORABLES stand approx. 5.5 inches tall, and are essentially the same size as the Shopkins SHOPPIES. L.O.L. dolls stand approx. 3.5 inches tall, quite a bit smaller. and boxier. and cuter. I think I definitely have a preference hahaha.
In conclusion, I am pretty happy with both dolls. I do prefer the L.O.L. doll because of it’s unique shape and tiny size, but I am happy to have both types of doll in my collection.

Daddy & Haleigh
Okay so I lied, I’ve got more Roman fluff and it’s Daddy Ro. I’m not gonna day of its the last one or not. We’re just gonna rock with this. Okay? Cool! 😂😂
——-
Five years old
“Hold on tight, Princess. Don’t be scared, Daddy’s got you.” Roman assured his daughter.
Roman and her mama had gotten her the pink Shopkins bike she asked them to get her for her birthday two months ago. When she first got it Haleigh begged them not to put the training wheels on, of course they did anyway. Roman promised that if she did a good job with them, then he would take them off and teach her how to ride without them. Here it is two months later and he’s making good on his promise but Haleigh isn’t sure about it anymore.
She looked up at Roman with big, brown, scared eyes. “Don’t let go, Daddy.”
“I won’t just yet, Haleigh. Go on and pedal,” He encouraged, “I’ll be right behind you.”
Haleigh did what her daddy told her and the bike started to roll down the sidewalk of their neighborhood park. She was beyond excited to be riding without the training wheels. Now she knew what all her friends were talking about.
Roman was barely holding onto the bike anymore, just letting his fingertips graze the back of her seat as he jogged alongside her. Eventually he stopped and watched her ride with a proud smile. His phone made a quick appearance so he could snap a few pictures and videos. Haleigh laughed and screamed about how much fun she was having until she turned a corner and saw Roman was no longer behind her. Her fear had returned causing her to forget how to break or turn her handle to avoid the bushes in front of her. Roman realized where she was headed quickly sprinted over to her just as she made contact with the bushes.
“You okay, Princess?” He asked pulling her from the bushes. It hurt his heart to see her face red and tear filled. He started to pick the pieces of brush that were stuck in her helmet and on her clothes.
“You let go,” she sobbed with an accusatory stare. A look she had surely gotten from her mama, Roman couldn’t help but laugh a little.
“But I was always right behind you. I saw you, I didn’t go anywhere.”
“But … but,” she cried wrapping her arms around his neck. “You let me fall.”
“Wasn’t I there to pick you up, Hae? Even if I’m not right there by you I’m always behind you and I’ll always be there to pick you up,” Roman explained pulling her face from his neck, “You’re gonna fall a lot but Daddy will always be there. Alright?” She nodded allowing him to wash her face with the towel he had brought along. “Do you have any owies for Daddy to kiss? Or are you alright?”
“No owies,” she squeaked through her tears.
“You did really good though. Daddy’s so proud of you.”
“But I fell, Daddy.”
“But you got back up. I tell you what, if you’re feelin’ up to it you can ride your bike back home and I promise not to let go unless you ask. Sound good?”
“I dunno.”
“Don’t you wanna show your mama and big brother that you can ride your bike?”
Haleigh put her hands on her hips and leaned her head to the side. Her thinking pose, another thing she had gotten from her mama.
“Can I get ice cream?”
“Yeah, you can, Princess,” He laughed picking her bike up, “Mama won’t like it but she’ll be aight.”
Thirteen Years Old
This was the day Roman dreaded more than prom and college send off. As he sat outside Haleigh’s bathroom door he wondered when did Jesus start to hate him. Koda was gone with friends, his wife was at work which left him to have a Daddy Daughter day with Haleigh. Even though she was a teenager, she was still a daddy’s girl.
They were watching one of the many Fast and Furious movies when she got up to use the bathroom. The back of her baby blue sweatpants caught his eye. There was an unmistakable red stain.
“Fuck my life,” He muttered a little louder than he should’ve which caught her off guard. She turned caught her daddy’s eye then moved her stare to the red stain on her mother’s favorite white sofa. Roman tried to tell her that it was okay and he would fix it but she had already ran off.
“Babygirl, come on out. We can fix this,” Roman spoke softly through the door.
“This is so embarrassing. Mama’s gonna kill me for destroying her sofa. Just let me be, Daddy.”
“Let me help, Hae. Just come out.”
She sobbed loudly catching him off guard. The hormones had started already. “I want mama. She knows about this you don’t. I don’t want you to see this. Get mama, please.”
Roman knew there was no way his wife could come home. She had a full day at the bakery and he would honestly be surprised if she got home before eight o'clock tonight. He figured he could at least call and have her talk him through this.
“I’m gonna go call her, Princess.”
He went back downstairs to call her. As the phone rang, he couldn’t help but laugh to himself about his lack of luck.
“Hey, Ro. You and Hae alright?”
Roman had never been so happy to hear his wife’s voice.
“Yes and no,” He sighed. “Hae got her period and won’t come out of the bathroom. She’s scared you’re gonna be mad for messin’ up the sofa. She doesn’t want me to help because I apparently know nothin’ about it.”
She laughed at the distress in his voice. “Breathe, baby. Everything is alright. First, put some bleach and fabuloso on the spot and let it sit,” she demanded softly, “While that sits go look in her closet for a box that says ‘Haleigh’s A Woman’ and tell her I told you to give it to her and open the door. Give her two of the pills and tell her to shower. While she showers, you need to get the stain out. Don’t rub it, scrunch it so it doesn’t set in. By the time you’re done, she should be and you’re gonna have to show her how to put the pad on. Afterwards just give her one of your daddy talks.”
——
Haleigh and Roman talked after the whole fiasco was over with. He decided to take her on his man cave to avoid her freaking out over the sofa again. They relaxed in one of the double wide recliners continuing with their previous movie.
“Mama told me that this means I’m a woman now. So does that mean I can’t be your little girl or your princess anymore?”
“You’ll always be Daddy’s little girl and princess no matter what, Hae.”
She snuggled into his side at his words. No matter how much her friends teased her, she would never stop being her Daddy’s little girl.
“Thank you for helping me, Daddy. Sorry for saying you didn’t know.”
Roman kissed her forehead, never talking his eyes from the screen even though he could feel Haleigh’s brown eyes on his face. “It’s alright, Hae. Just remember Daddy’s always here and he’s got you.”
Seventeen Years Old
Roman couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness watching his wife do Haleigh’s hair and make up as she got ready for prom. His little girl was becoming a young woman right before his eyes and there was nothing he could do about it.
She had caught his eyes in the vanity staying at their daughter and smiled. “Doesn’t she look beautiful, Ro?”
“Yeah,” He sighed, “She looks as beautiful as her mama.”
“Mikey should be here in a few minutes, Daddy. And you promised to be nice.” Haleigh reminded him. She was already nervous about going to prom with the boy she had a crush on for years and the thought of her dad intimidating him made it no better.
“Don’t worry your pretty lil head about that, Princess. I’ll keep him company while he sits on you.” The doorbell rang out through the house before either woman could say anything else. “Get the door, Koda! I’m coming!” Roman had flashed them a sneaky smirk before leaving the room.
Koda had come home from college once his mama mentioned Haleigh going to prom. He had to meet the boy that would be taking his sister out. His dad needed reinforcement after all.
As Roman came down the steps, he noticed Koda had the poor boy hemmed up in the corner of the foyer. He laughed going to separate them.
“It’s alright, son. Let him go, we can all go sit and talk while we wait,” Roman smiled giving Mikey a firm hand slap on the back, “Right?”
“I’m sure my daughter has told you what I expect from you. And I mean every single thing I said. Im allowin’ you to borrow her, she does not belong to you and will be returned to me the same way she left out of this house. You got that, Mickey?”
“It’s Mikey, sir.” The young boy sputtered out.
“Your name won’t matter if you hurt my Princess. You keep your hands in respectful places and your lips and other body parts to yourself. If so much as a piece of hair is out of place, I will hunt you down. Not only me but her brother here, her uncles and cousins. Don’t play with me, Mickey.”
Mikey let the name thing go. He didn’t want to upset the large man anymore than he already was. He held Roman’s stare until Koda grabbed his attention.
“I hear there’s a hotel party afterwards,” Koda said nonchalantly, “If I find out you took my sister there, I’ll break your lil ass in half. Got it?”
Mikey stared wide eyed at the two men. He didn’t know what to say. He had already made plans for the night but they were making him seriously reconsider.
“I believe my son asked you a question, boy.”
“Ye-yes sir. I got it.”
Just as they wrapped up Haleigh and her mama entered the room. Roman and Koda stood while Mikey sat dumbfounded until Koda snatched him up.
“You look real beautiful, sis. Don’t she, Mickey?”
“Uh..uh,” Mikey stuttered until Roman patted him on the back, “You look amazing, Haleigh.”
“Thanks, Mikey. Is that for me,” she laughed pointing to the corsage he held.
After her mom took a million pictures, the couple were finally on their way out the door. Roman watched her walk hand in hand with the young boy, saddened at the fact that she had left without hugging him. He watched them pull off, closing the door once they were out of sight.
“Perk up, big man. She’ll be back.”
“She better,” He mumbled.
Minutes later the front door opened and the sound of heels clicking against the floor caught them off guard. Roman rose to see what was going on, Haleigh met him in the doorway of the kitchen. She wrapped her arms around him tightly catching him off guard.
“I forgot my hug, Daddy.” She mumbled into his stomach. “You let me forget.”
“It’s alright, Princess. Go have fun and call me if you need me. I’ll be there.”
———
It was just after ten, Koda and and his wife had turned in for the night. Roman couldn’t sleep until he knew his babygirl was home and safe. He settled on Fresh Prince reruns while he waited. He had started to dose off when the front door opened and the sound of sobbing emanated from the foyer. He waited for her to stumble into the living room before he said anything.
“What’s wrong, Hae?”
She looked up from her hands she was crying into. One look at her father and she broke down even more.
“It’s alright, sweetheart. Just calm down and tell Daddy what’s wrong.”
She shook her head still crying into his chest. “You’re gonna be so mad at me. I can’t tell you, Daddy.”
“I won’t, baby. Just tell me, please.” It joked him to see her like this. The only thing on his mind was killing Mickey, Mikey or whatever his name was.
“I fell and I should’ve called you sooner so that you could pick me up, Daddy.”
He rubbed her back still confused. “What does that mean?”
“Mikey didn’t take me to prom cause he liked me. He took me cause h-h-he wanted to have sex with me.” The anger rose within him. He wanted to go find the little shit by he had to comfort his baby first. “He asked me to come to the hotel party with him and I figured it would be fun since … since some of my other friends were going. Bu-but when we got to the room there wad no one else. He tried to kiss me and I told him I was wanted to go with everyone else. He told me to stop acting like I didn’t know why he asked me out.”
“What did you do then, Princess?” Roman tried to keep his anger at bay, it was getting harder and harder.
She laughed a little as she rubbed her nose. “I kneed him in the balls when he tried to take my dress off and called an uber.”
“That’s my girl,” He joked, “Look, you did good. You fell and I was here. I told you Daddy will always be there to pick you back up. Even when you think I’m not.”
“I love you, Daddy. Thank you for not getting mad.”
“Love you, too, Princess. Go on, get this stuff off and get some sleep. We can talk more in the mornin’.”
Roman waited until he heard her bedroom door shut before going to Koda’s room. His look alike was sprawled across the bed, mouth open and snoring. Roman laughed a little as he popped his bare chest waking him up.
“What? What? Something wrong?” He asked sleepily.
“Yup. Mickey didn’t listen, now we gotta pay em a lil visit,” Roman explained quickly, “Get dressed. I’ll be in the car calling your uncles and cousins. Don’t take all day or your ass is gettin’ left.”
Nobody messes with his princess and gets away with it.
