If Systems Don’t Matter, Why Are You So Embarrassed?
hey gang. this play report is, as you may know if you've been paying attention, coming in just about two weeks late, which is not ideal. this happened because i have been very busy with work, because i am poor. if you like what i do here and want to make me more busy with this kind of stuff and less poor, maybe consider tossing me a couple of bucks? it would mean a lot. Now back to ur regularly scheduled content.
Sometimes it’s fruitful to have a collaborator in order to riff, bounce ideas off each other, and generally intellectually pollinate. Sometimes it’s good to have someone who can fall on a sword so you don’t have to. I’d be remiss if I didn’t start this month’s reflection on the Dream Library book club by calling out the tremendous amount of work the internet’s own @marvelousmsmolly has been doing in the last little while to keep things afloat.
We played, talked through, and read Vampire: The Masquerade this month, along with some guest excerpts from Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Hunter: The Reckoning, and probably Unicorn: The Saturnalia for all I know. These collectively make up a small part of something called the “World of Darkness,” a universe which I’ve been told is entirely separate from something called the “Chronicles of Darkness” in ways I don’t entirely understand. They were published by a company called White Wolf until White Wolf was sold, and then a team called White Wolf inside a series of larger companies until they were summarily — and rightly — dismantled following the spectacularly bad decision to pin real-world Chechnyan anti-gay purges on in-universe vampires. We’ll get back to all that in a second.
I picked the game — Vampire, that is — to close out our fall semester on Monster(fucking), advocating for it in part because I suspected it would make big claims about what it could do narratively and fail mechanically to deliver. And, while I was right on that count, what I couldn’t have predicted was how hard the bug (the vampire?) would bite, and how seriously Vampire-mania would sweep the Dream Library.
I think @wildwoodsgames hit the nail on the head at the very tail end of our discussion thread, when they called Hunter: The Reckoning “a game playing with a lot of very potent ideas that it is not super responsible with.”
This is a statement could be truly made about every scrap of World of Darkness I’ve read (which was none, to be clear, before we started this month). They’re games which constantly sit on the edge of juiciness and fail spectacularly, stumbling instead into some of the most short-sighted and often willingly edgy alt-history stuff I’ve ever seen. But — like I said — I’m going to have to come back to a lot of that later.
I have two big takeaways about VTM:
I. VTM is comic books
Intertext and serial fiction get a bad rap, sometimes, in our current moment of bloated and collapsing franchises — of Glup Shittos and Marvel’s Sony’s Spider-man’s The Avengers. But before the content mill gets really grinding there is a real joy to be found in reading something and seeing the shape of a whole world fill out behind you. I know a lot of people find that pleasure in the EU Star Wars novels. When I was a kid, I found it mostly in Middle-earth — except, I should say, for one long summer at my grandparents’ house when I tore through my cousins copy of Marvel’s (Sony’s Spider-man’s) The Runaways.
Big 2 Superhero Comics — because they’re serial and because they’re short and because they have a long history — have a really lovely way of finding interesting niches in old worlds and running with them. In a real way, VTM tries to do the same thing. The whole structure of the World of Darkness relies on the fundamental premise that a big interlinked all-happening-at-once world is, in fact, cool. But it also — maybe because of the way the game is inviting you to make your own OC and carve out your own niche — tends to focus on the thing comics does, finding an interesting nook or cranny where more stories could be told rather than flattening everything down into one grand “Skywalker Saga.”
By way of this interest, VTM resists the narrative black hole that so many “worldbuilding” IPs fall into. There are no Jedi to take center stage, no Aragorns into whose narratives the lovely story of The Hobbit disappears. And if there are — well, I haven’t read about them. I don’t have to read about them. Vampire gives me the space to do my own thing. It also gives its writers the space to make massively bad decisions — and, holy shit, there are so many bad decisions in these books. Famous instances, yes: the Vampire Chechnyan thing and Werewolf’s relationship with indigeneity — but also small corners full of some of the stupidest ideas you ever heard. Moses Maimonides, Mossad agent. V5’s inexplicable fascination with 9/11. An entire Wraith section on the Shoah. Some of this stuff swings around and is almost juicy again — but who on earth who ever greenlight it?
2. VTM is embarrassed to be a game
It isn’t a new take to say that VTM fails to deliver on its compelling setting with an equally compelling set of mechanics, but it did astonish me to realize how much the actual text of the game buys into the narrative that rolling dice and thinking about rules is a secondary function of a game in comparison to the almighty narrative. You see this in suggestions geared to streamline combat, but you also see it in the eighteen pages of in-universe fiction which come at the start of the book before the rules narrator can get a word in sideways. VTM exists setting first: they are desperate to prove that you could strip away all the numbers and still be playing VTM. I have two thoughts about this:
There’s a certain appeal to the way VTM seems to think about this, which we could call a Brennan Lee Mulligan “get the rules out of the way and let me RP” approach. The fact that Brennan and VTM have this in common is, more or less, unsurprising to me knowing that Brennan has a background in large-scale LARP, where clearing the explicit mechanics to let roleplay happen is a massive design priority. VTM has its own long history of LARP and I do think it’s radical to recognize that there is something to a game beyond the mechanics. To play in the VTM world — whether with a d10 or a cloak or by writing fanfiction — is to play VTM, and I’m glad to see a system take pleasure in that (especially because its explicit mechanics aren’t very good).
That being said, I wish participants in this sort of “clear the rules” roleplay-first style recognized more explicitly the mechanics they aren’t getting out of the way: social dynamics, narrative structures, relationships to knowledge and authority and the ability to hold a room’s attention which absolutely structure freeform RP as much as any “then roll Xd10.” The presence of these social dynamics, especially, has been a massive recurring theme of our Monsterfucking unit as a whole, as game after game seems to really struggle to design for their inevitable presence.
All in all, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed VTM — although I liked reading it and thinking up a character more than the live play. I think it’s a game that’s perhaps uniquely ill-suited to the Dream Library’s format and the rapid cycling-through of games it entails, but there’s something to be said for the way the setting itself gripped me. I wanted to tell the story of a little freak’s descent into evil, even if I didn’t have the time for it. Maybe I’ll go play 1,000 Year Old Vampire.
Next up — well, more like currently — the Dream Library is taking a little winter break. Not an actual break, of course: we’ve already had a festive session of Wanderhome, Molly is hosting a session of Never Stop Blowing Up set in a mall around Christmastime soon, and then maybe Hanukkah Goblins? We’ll see.
If you want to get in on any of that, hey. Click this link.
If not, I’ll see you here next month.
Peace

For the ask game, marvel superheroes? If not, metroid
Thanks for the ask! Gonna try for Marvel here first but I'll gladly do this for Metroid again! Not limiting myself to heroes cause 1. Can't think of too many that catch my focus 2. The breadth of characters on any end of hero-villain spectrum gets me
Blorbo: Spider-Man is my real one. Always has been, always will be! This dude was a fave before I could even pronounce Spider-Man
Scrunkly: can't think of a particularly shaped one but closest coming to mind is Gwen/Ghost-Spider. Adore her colour pallette and especially the stylization of her world
Scrimblo Bimblo: I don't pay enough attention to general community stuff to know who really counts as underrated. But! I feel like Sandman has a lot of potential with how often he's depicted not wanting to cause trouble or just a guy dealt a bad hand. Any media exploring that side gets good stuff going and it's always unfortunate to see him reduced to "evil guy #4136"
Glup Shitto: Power Pack my beloved. These kids were included in some Spider-Man comic pack back in the day and I just. These kids stuck with me. Never heard anyone talk of them. Never found enough of their comics to know if they had any longer plot lines than "a dimensional rift opened in the basement while mom was out" or "a skull crashed in our backyard" or "a mutant kid keeps teleporting to bright lights so we carried him home" but they always had a great charm to them
Poor Little Meow Meow: the Spot, specifically the AtSV depiction. Textbook definition of sad wet beast that embraced the sog and became all-powerful. Such an intriguing villain, can't wait for BtSV. Can you tell I really like Spider-Man significantly more than the rest? Lmao
Horse Plinko: any good depiction of Eddie Brock is already in the torment zone. Either deserved (rudeboy) or rooting for escape (goodboy) but knowing he can only find moments of peace
Eeby Deeby: fuck Tony stark. Cool robots to not absolve you of ruining MCU spidey by making it all about you. Superhell. Fuck EIDITH

"Glup Shitto" is about character names in Star Wars, and could be extended to be about scifi/fantasy characters in general. "Blorbo from my shows" is the same. They're both about fandoms being obsessed with characters outside the interests of the person speaking.
(So I guess yet another example would be me watching the internet go wild when the Queen of England died. A real "Blorbo from my monarchy" moment.)
Whereas OP is talking about the proliferation of weird and meaningless names for businesses/apps/services that we're expected (or sometimes required) to interact with just to maintain our existence.
A "Glup Shitto" or a "Blorbo from my shows" is listening to your friend infodump about a thing they're excited about; you can just let it pass over you like water, if you want. An "apply directly on Geebo" is Capitalism actively trying to erode the language center of your brain by sandblasting your parietal lobe with babytalk.

deep space 9!
ok here we go:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
it used to be odo but now by far sisko, mainly because the benny russell plotline is my absolute favorite star trek plot ever. is he sisko or benny.... if he ascended to the prophets or whatever did he create benny?? if benny russell was a real author in strange new worlds... what does that mean. "you are the dreamer and the dream" is rotating in my microwave brain constantly. odo is still my emo repressed babygirl though.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
if couples count, worf and jadzia. yes they can and have gotten away with murder yes i still want to put them in a little jar on my desk. they're legitimately one of the best written tv couples ever. worf is the wife and jadzia is the husband though
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
damar, im not saying hes a good person or anything but his arc was so interesting to me and he did have his very good moments at the end
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
rom and leeta. roms development was also SO good and leeta is the cutest side character ever i love her. like star trek does not get better than wimpy alien man finding his passion for engineering and falling in love with his hooters waitress wife who helps him form a union. that was peak cinema
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
i cant think of a character that's necessarily unpopular... maybe lwaxana?? i know she was like a minor villain in tng but i loved her in that ep where she hung out with alexander, and her friendship with odo later on in the show was actually super cute to me. she is a queen idc what tng says. headcanon she's still like alexanders cool aunt and worf is very tired.
also near the end... kai winn?? i do not like her or think she was a good person at all but i did feel bad for her for maybe two seconds near the end. i dont know she spent her life wanting to talk to god only for some alien guy to become emissary so while shes evil and i hate her i kinda have pity for her so shes my meow meow idk
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
dukat for sure. i would drop dukat in hot soup. definitely the best written star trek villain though and marc alaimo is such a good actor, every time i watch a dukat ep im like how does alaimo act so well that i genuinely hate this man with a passion
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
kai winn. i know i just said shes my meow meow but i hate her i hate her. same thing with marc alaimo though, louise fletcher was such a good actor that for 45 minutes i hated her like she was real dude

7, 8, 9, 16?
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
gotta be real here, it's Joyce. While playing, i had what i presumed were the usual complicated feelings about Joyce: first i didn't understand where the writers were going with her, because i expected a more simplistic, straightforward take on "rich corporate lady = evil" (i expected this solely bc i hadn't gotten used to the disco way of spinning a narrative yet). Turned out what i had on my hands was a more complex take on "rich corporate lady = evil", one that expects you to grasp the concept of "nice is not good". So i reckoned "okay i get it now" and was ready to leave it at that and come away from it all with no strong feelings either way towards Joyce. Then i saw the vast majority of the fandom is uncritically stanning her and now my stance is "fuck you, Boat Thatcher, i am beating your ultralib ass with hammers"
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
that all the supernatural stuff (the skills, objects talking, la revacholiére, the coming apocalypse, plasm, etc) or even any plot element or characterization that any given person does not like is just "Harry's making shit up! He's manipulative and/or crazyyyy!" like, you realize there's plenty of proof for Harry being manipulative or mentally ill already without sucking all the fantastical realism out of the narrative, right?? like, do people understand genre? hello? is the phasmid or the pale also just Harry making shit up? i mean at that point just go watch a police procedural or read a hardboiled detective novel. good god if this continues we'll be seeing AUs where Harry was a spooky asylum inmate and hallucinating the whole plot again like it's 2013
9. worst part of canon
honestly? i'm sorry but. all the Ambrosius stuff. it's just not it for me, and if i ever ended up writing future-fic, i'd deal with it in the way of "well, looks like Ambrosius got shot in the head offscreen by Glup Shitto. now time to handle interesting things"
16. you can't understand why so many people like this thing (characterization, trope, headcanon, etc)
i truly don't get why so many people seem to characterize Harry as a dumbass who needs Kim to tie his shoes for him. Like sure we're given "Kim i know the alphabet now" and similar moments, but there's also plenty of evidence of Harry being competent, smart and capable of handling adult life for himself, in his own way
#sorry for my. completely random capitalization??? i don't wanna go through all this and unify it i cannot be assed#answer'd

Happy new year! Here's a new years Glup Shitto for you: The year 0 BBY!

As you all know, i'm sure, the calendar in the Star Wars universe is measured in years before and after the battle of Yavin, or BBY and ABY for short. this makes a certain amount of sense from an in universe perspective, as the first major victory of the rebellion against the empire, as well as an out of universe one, being the events of the first star wars movie. However, it gets a little bit weird in the year of battle of Yavin. See, the year numbering is based on the battle, but the year start is inherited from a previous system. This means that the battle of Yavin happened in the middle of the year (during the third month). So, what is that year titled? Is it 0 BBY or 0 ABY? Or is it maybe 1 ABY?
If we consider real life calendars for a moment, the in the Gregorian calendar, there is no year zero, it simply goes from 1 BCE to 1 CE. However, several real world calendars do have a year 0, though as best as I could find they don't use a before/after scheme (feel free to correct me if this is wrong).
The galactic standard calendar, though, has an odd way of handling this: there is a year 0, and the portion of the year before the battle is designated 0 BBY and the portion after is 0 BBY (not sure what the day itself is considered to be part of). Therefore, there is a 0 BBY, but it is only about 3 months long, and the year 0 ABY is roughly 7 months long (the calendar has 10 months).
Another fun bit of trivia (but only one, lest this turn into a full calendar post (more calendar fun facts coming soon (probably))): the galactic standard year, used in most calendars—including the BBY/ABY system—is based on the orbit of Coruscant, which is actually 368 days long.
Glup Shitto Classification: Look, it's new year's eve and I ran out of queued posts so this is just a quick one, but there's more calendar stuff to mine for later.

Digimon
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Ken Ichijouji, obviously. He was the first character I ever got really attached to. I hated him at first in a "he's the villain who literally kicks puppies and torments and enslaves digimon and shoves Wormmon around" way, but then he was defeated, broke through the Dark Spore's conditioning (not that I knew about that at the time), realized that digimon are real and not just a video game, and went into a dissociative episode, trying to piece himself back together, and somehow make up for what he did. The other Digidestined slowly accepting him, him making friends? Just felt GOOD. Especially with that scene in the finale, with his "greatest wish" apparently being seeing himself as the Digimon Emperor being tied to a Control Spire and murdered by the digimon he hurt, and having Sam appear there as well... only to find out that it was all an illusion, and declare that he's paid for his mistakes, he's not going to continue to punish himself, and his friends all appearing to cheer him on. It was a really powerful moment.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Wormmon. That poor digimon, but one who has a lot of faith in his partner - to the point of being badly hurt, unfortunately. But eventually, he realizes that he best thing he can do for Ken, is to fight against him, against who he's become.
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Sam. He's a posthumous character, but one with a MAJOR impact on Ken. I love reading fics with him. He was a bit of a jerk to Ken, with the way he yelled at him and slapped his hand away from the Digivice, but he was ALSO an eleven year old kid who was under an insane amount of pressure from his parents, and well... he did something that I'm betting he would've regretted later. Ken recognizes it too, what with following in his shoes as a child prodigy.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
Milleniummon. I was SO INCREDIBLY EXCITED that he was the Big Bad in Digimon Adventure 2020, he's the perfect fit for the role! He's really obscure, only appearing on-screen in the show for a grand total of like, 5 seconds in a flashback, and DYING in that flashback, but in those five seconds he shapes the entire story of Digimon Adventure 02. Plus there are the Ryo games which give four games worth of backstory to the guy - sort of, they are only loosely canon - and it means I'm incredibly excited to see him! Unfortunately in Digimon Adventure 2020 he's a pretty generic powerhouse, he doesn't actually have much personality to speak of, which was highly disappointing. Good choice of Big Bad, but not a great execution of one.
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
Impmon. Yes, something not related to Ken, I do like other characters - I just have a heavy preference for the boy.
Impmon goes through quite the character arc, from being a petty annoyance of a minor bully, who torments others just so he feels less pathetic, to being a sort-of friend, ish, to the Tamers... and then being beaten so badly in a fight that he picks with someone who FAR outmatches him that he nearly dies, and makes a Deal with the Devil to get power... and then goes a bit mad with it, and agrees to follow through and try to murder all the Tamers, and ends up murdering Leomon, Jeri's partner, right in front of her eyes - and she ALREADY had to cope with her mother dying and her father being an oppressive dick to her ever since, and blaming herself for her mother's death, even when it had nothing to do with her.
And then when Gallantmon prepares to kill him, this girl, who he'd threatened to kill, and whose partner he just murdered in front of her eyes, who's sobbing her eyes out, begs for his life - not because he doesn't deserve it, but because she doesn't want to cause any more deaths, she couldn't bare another one (this poor girl, she's not responsible for any of this).
Which leads him to have a BSOD, barely being able to comprehend that she'd do that, would save him like that, would ask him to be spared. So he limps off, and purposely gets himself attacked until he de-digivolves back down to his original rookie form, the one he was so desperate to escape. The power wasn't worth it.
And STILL, the Tamers go back for him, bring him with them to the Real World.
And then everything happens with Jeri being kidnapped by the D-Reaper so it can feed on her depression, despair, and hopelessness, and Impmon - well, Beezlemon now - doing everything in his power to save her, wanting desperately to do SOMETHING to make up for what he did. He even succeeds at breaking into the bubble where she's being held captive, reaches out his hand to pull her out... and she doesn't take it. She's incredibly out of it and thinks it's Leomon saving her, especially since he used Leomon's attack... the one he acquired because he absorbed Leomon. And when she realizes its Beezlemon, the digimon who murdered her partner, she freezes and shakes, unable to make herself take his hand, too traumatized to do it, all while he's screaming at her to please take it, let him help.
Afterwards his Tamers find him and take care of him, causing them to finally earn their D-ark, and he makes peace with them as a whole. They were the reason he was jealous of the other partner digimon in the first place, since his own partners treated him like a toy to fight over, pulling him in two different directions. To be fair, they are five years old, and may have been even younger than that when they both came across Impmon, so I don't think it was really their fault: they were just too young to really know better.
Anyway, when Jeri gets out she forgives Impmon, because she's forgiving to a fault, and all the digimon, including him, get taken back to the Digital World.
I just find his whole character arc fascinating, especially since we see him BEFORE he went full-on evil, and afterwards as well - we see him at every stage, and can clearly tell he's the same character, but also how he's grown and changed over time.
Also WOW, I think Jeri's the most traumatized character I've ever seen in a kids cartoon. How was Tamers rated Y-7 again?
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Yamaki. I think he's interesting, but it can be fun to make him lose his composure.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Kurata in Data Squad I guess? It's been so long that I barely remember the series, but he was a DICK.

Cookie runnn
Blorbo: Somewhere between Dark Cacao (of course), Pure Vanilla, and Madeline. More specifically, my AU interpretations of them.
Scrunkly: His Royal Highness, Prince Custard Cookie the Third (don't you forget the 'third'--it's very important!) He's just a little guy who's trying his best and isn't aware of how difficult being a king actually is. I love it when he and Pure Vanilla have grandpa-grandkid character moments. Let Pure Vanilla be a guide!
Scrimblo Bimblo: I can't think of one at the moment. It seems that every other character already has a pretty decent amount of appreciation to them. Suspicious... Perhaps Premier Custard Cream. Can we see more of him, please?
Glup Shitto: Please can we see some more Premier Custard Cream. Devsis please I am begging. I just know that he and Pure Vanilla were once married in the past. Just let me see him again. Acknowledge his existence. Do SOMETHING. (Also Second Watcher Cookie. Can we stop pretending like these two men don't exist. Thank you.)
Poor Little Meow Meow: I have two, actually. Affogato Cookie and Clotted Cream Cookie. That's a lie. I have three, actually. Throw in Dark Choco Cookie. Because he has to be here somewhere, and I would never send him to superhell. He borders on Blorbo, too.
Horse Plinko: Just look at my blorbos and you'll have a good idea. Need I say more?
Eeby Deeby: Kingdom!Pomegranate and Custard Cookie. Both of them activate my fight, flight or kill instinct, and I just know that I would legitimately loathe both of them if they existed in real life.

Kh for the ask game (of course lol) but if you already did it, maybe Persona 5?
blorbo - Isa 🥺 I didn't have a clear fav until isa came out of nowhere and smacked me upside the head. He hits a lot of the notes I really enjoy in a character and I'm super happy with him getting to be a good guy now. I hope we get to see more of him at least a little bit and hopefully get a resolution for him and lea's friendship with subject x
scrunkly - Vanitas is so so so so so so scrunkly. i love drawing him with jagged edges and triangular shapes because it's like yeah.......he is shaped. another character who hits a lot of my favorite notes and he also gets some of the best/funniest lines/scenes in all of kh with the added bonus of being conceptually horrifying the moment you think about him too long (a being only capable of experiencing negative emotions from which spawn monsters whose only purpose is to generate more negative emotions)
scrimblo bimblo - NAMINE!!!!! I know we have lots of namine enjoyers out here but COME ON give my girl some credit...I want all of the namine keyblades and outfit designs on my desk by 7
glup shitto - this is Skuld for me and will be DOUBLY so if she gets confirmed as subject x. I swear to god on that day I am going to be so insufferable about it
poor little meow meow - Xemnas is for real the true sadboy of kingdomhearts. for the sake of brevity I will refrain from xemnasposting but I've been rotating him in my mind nonstop ever since this exchange in kh3:
Xemnas: I feel...the emptiness where my companions once stood. I took them for granted. And now, I have...nothing. My first surge of emotion in years...for as long as I can remember...and it's...loneliness. Do you see? A heart is just pain.
Sora: Pain is being human, Xemnas.
Xemnas: Really? It must take...incredible strength...
horse plinko - do i even need to explain why xigbar is going in the plinko machine. xigbar has been in the plinko machine for the past several thousand years
eeby deeby - The Master of Masters is Going to Eeby Deeby

How about your Mandalorian blorbos? Got any good scrunkles or plinkos happening in that show?
(This Is A Real Sentence Apparently)
oh hmm hee let's see
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
you know, I really think at the moment it's Boba Fett, and a lot of that is because I feel that THE ENTIRE SERIES SUPPOSED TO BE THE BOOK OF HIM DONE HIM WRONG
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
this is Baby Yoda's entire job and I'm not sure any other answer is legally allowed
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
is Cobb Vanth underrated? because I like him a bunch, but I really have no perspective on how he is rated/appreciated because all my Mandalorian-liking tumblies like him too
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
MAX REBO BABY (I realise Max Rebo only appeared in The Book of Boba Fett but let's be real TBOBF was only ever a vehicle for The Mandalorian season 2.5 which is why so much of it doesn't make sense/clearly wasn't thought through/WE WERE ROBBED)
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
I don't have one for The Mandalorian proper but if they ever even mention Darth Maul I will grandfather him in; there's no one else who sucks that I like
Maul is just the ultimate Star Wars poor little meow meow, no one else comes close, Anakin? fuck offffff
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Paz Vizsla deserves to struggle, he is just needlessly aggro and large
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Luke Skywalker because he doesn't belong in this story, he doesn't even GO here (he should have been Plo Koon)

kingdom hearts for the character thing ^-^

Okay so I'm gonna answer you both here since... it's the same ask haha ^^" @pinelo tagging you so you get the notification
Anyway let's go boysssss
Blorbo
Xion definitely. I love her so much, ever since I discovered her story in days the only thing I wanted was to see her come back. The idea that she didn't even have a face until Roxas saw her as a real person is soooo good. I love this message in kingdom hearts, that anything can be real and have a heart as soon as someone see them as having one. "By ourselves, we're no one. It's when others look at us, and see someone, that's the moment we each start to exist." Thank you Joshua. These words have never been more relevant than for Xion.
Skrunkly
And here I will put... Player :) "But it's not a character, it's supposed to be you!" Nope. Not at all. Player is their own character. You may customize their appearance, but they make their own choices. They have their own personality. Would you, as the one playing KHUX, have chosen to join the dandelions? Probably. But Player did not. Anyway. Player my beloved. The speech they gave for Ephemer is living rent free in my mind. Also the scene when they pretended to be controlled by the Darkness? Ephemera just told them "hey Skuld and I are going to sacrifice ourselves for you" and Player went nope. No no no you are not doing that. They didn't even hesitate. My heart.
Scrimblo Bimbo
I'm going to put the whole twilight gang here (Hayner, Pence and Olette). MY BELOVEDS. I wouldn't say they're so underappreciated honestly but given how much love they deserve it's still not enough. They're so brave and funny and kind. Just a group of friends looking to enjoy their time and make new friends, but their new friends always get wrapped into super weird things. And there's also this friend that was only friend with digital versions of themselves. Oh, doesn't matter. He's their friend now. They're gonna save an old man from an evil man with Hayner's super flying sidekick to find him. They're the best.
Glup Shitto
Well it's not so much of an "obscure character" since the KH4 trailer, but considering only KHUX, then Strelitzia. Do I even have to explain myself? She's so sweet and kind and she absolutely did not deserve this. I don't think she would have been able to change Player's mind though, even if she managed to talk to them. But she was convinced that she should try despite everything, and I admire her for that. I can't wait to see more of her in kh4.
Poor little meow meow
And here is the case where I put... Isa!!! I love him so much. I hated him at first during days and kh2 but the implications of everything he did during DDD and kh3 really made me change my mind. Suggesting the idea of the replicas and suggesting to go fetch Even himself, explaining to the scientist his plan before letting him join the real org, then asking him to have demyx deliver Roxas' replica, then having Xion fight Axel and insisting on Axel and Roxas' names so she would wake up. King.
Horse Plinko
Character I would torture for fun? OH BUT YEN SID OF COURSE. I hate this guy. Relying only on Sora to fix the worlds and then scolding him when he fails? HE'S JUST A KID! Get up from your dumb chair and do something for once! No that one time in kh3 doesn't count. He could've done something sooner. The only thing that prevents me from sending him to superhell is because he isn't responsible for the death of thousands of children. And while we're talking about it...
Eeby Deeby
YOU. *grabs the MoM like a feral cat* YOU ARE GOING TO SUPER HELL. You know I get that he's doing this to destroy the darkness. I get it. It's true. Everything he's ever done has only been with one goal: to get rid of the darkness for good. But if Eraqus was a good example of how light can corrupt people, then MoM is an even better one. Is destroying the Darkness for good really worth all the hurt he caused? It's a question worth asking.
Ask game: give me any fandom!
#léa replies#kingdom hearts#thank you both for the ask!#i must say it was a little hard to choose for some#<- look at this dumbass unable to do anything without squeezing some twewy in it#calling myself out on that one#IT'S NOT MY FAULT THIS QUOTE IS SO GOOD OKAY#anyway. i'm wondering if you're suprised by some of my answers#pretty sure no one was expecting Player there hehehe

Sailor Moon?
It's been a moment since I've thought super-hard about SM, full disclosure.
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most): Ami! Particularly in the 92 anime.
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped): Chibiusa in the manga, ChibiChibi in the anime
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave): That being said, Chibiusa is great in any version. Maybe Sailor Pluto counts, since I feel like she was underappreciated in the 92 anime itself.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week): Diana is best kitton
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave): ummm... Let's see... I think Wiseman is a pretty cool villain? But I like him because he's the absolute worst, so he doesn't fit the traditional poor little meow meow mold. Pass?
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason): I remember that the manga version of Jadeite was kind of my buttmonkey for a while (mostly because how difficult I felt it would be for Rei to like him back), but I don't have any real negative feelings toward him.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell): Idk. Maybe Future Endymion from the 92 anime for making us go through that ridiculous break up arc for no good reason?

mdzs for the fandom ask!
hehehehehohohoho ty friend!!! LET'S GO
Send me a fandom and I’ll tell you my:
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
there's no question, if you've followed for even a little bit you know i'm a WWX lover, that man and his crazy scientist hubris and his big, beautiful, annoying heart lives rent free in my brain. his husband LWJ comes close second, but WWX is just unmatched
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
SIZHUI!! i mean come ON, both baby and teenager forms are the sweetest thing, but i especially love how he's not a 100% pute sweet little guy. he WILL start throwing punches in in a cave and he WILL say that the annoying guy they've been helping save from a walking corpse deserved more than a punch to the face from being so awful to his old friend
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
A-Qing!!! THE bravest character in modao, especially considering her backstory and circumstances. She's funny and cute and feral and one of the best people in the story but in a way that still feels like a real person. my god i need to re-read Yi City, but A-Qing really deserves soooo much more love than she gets
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
MO!!!! XUANYU!!!! MY GOD I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS ABOUT MO XUANYU I'M OBSESSED WITH HIM!!!!! i love how he haunts the narative from beginning to end and we never even meet him, i love how his anger burned so sooo bright that it unintentionally turned a tragedy into a queer love story. i LOVE that the flesh and bones of a supposedly queer man was the vehicle for it, considering how our own happy endings now are the result of the blood and tragedy of so many gay people that came before us. i LOVE the bits and pieces we learn about him and how almost none of it is certain or confirmed. seriously, i could talk about MXY until i pass out
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
in a story with many, MANY problematic characters, there is only One that truly fits the poor little meow meow label, and that is jin guangyao. everytime he cries about having had no choice in doing what he did, everytime he pleads with those big doe eyes... both him and NHS learned to weaponize the meowmeowfication, but while NHS still comes off as more pathetic, JGY found the perfect balance that just makes it impossible to look away. i adore him
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
ahhh jiang cheng, a character that i adore dearly but in that specific way in which i love watching him have his pathetic male hysteria moments. you know that part in guanyin temple when he walked in through rain all badass, but then during the fight he (unnecessarily) tries to save wangxian by jumping in front of jgy's sword and ends up sitting down on the floor looking like an angry, sad, wet dog? that scene summarizes perfectly what i love about his character. i wanna put him in a pretty glass jar and shake it, i wanna poke him with a stick and see how much trauma oozes out, i wanna lie him on a pan and flatten him like a pancake. he was immaculately written but i cannot relate to any of my mutuals cause they either love or hate him unironically, so i'm sitting by myself in my little corner tormenting him like a bored cat playing with a bug
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
if jin guangshan had dropped dead before the war.... it wouldn't have fixed Everything BUT IT WOULD HAVE FIXED SO MUUUCH. he's just an evil creep with no depth to him, nothing really to discuss, he just sucks, to superhell you goooooo
#THANK YOU SOOO MCUH FRIEND THIS WAS FUN!!#i'm afraid this might show up in the tag but hopefully its long enough so that no one other than my followers will wnat to read it#modao#ask
