⟢ 𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒔.
Sebastian Sallow is cursed.
For once, it’s by no fault of his own — tragedy, as it so happens, runs through his veins.
In 1348, a powerful wizard and well-known scholar named Alexander Sallow lived with his sister, Evelyn, in the South of England. Evelyn, who had always been a sickly child to begin with, became afflicted with the Black Death, and none of the Healers had been able to cure her. But she was all Alexander had, and she him, so he promised her while she lay on her death bed that he would not allow her to die.
He tried all manner of spells, potions, and miracles to save her. When all hope seemed lost, Alexander kneeled at his sister’s side, begging Death to spare her.
And Death answered.
“I will let her remain here a while longer,” he promised. “But to right the balance, you understand that I am owed a debt. A life for a life.”
And so, in his desperation, Alexander agreed to offer up his own.
However, he was just arrogant enough to ask for a small concession — that he be granted enough time to get his affairs in order first. Then, he would willingly depart the earth with Death.
But shortly after Evelyn was healed, he began to regret his choice…and sought a way to escape such a fate.
He had few options, though the simplest seemed to also be the most harrowing, for he knew its price. Still, he had made a deal with Death, and nobody escaped from Death without risking everything. Alexander had never been the sort to shy away from doing what needed to be done. Resolved to be cursed rather than dead, he killed a wild unicorn and took its blood, becoming immortal the moment it touched his lips.
Death appeared instantly. Furious, he admonished the wizard for going back on their bargain, cursing Alexander and any descendants he would have in His betrayal-fueled rage.
Evelyn was gone by the next sunrise.
Every Sallow since has been shackled to a tragic fate: some have been cursed, others afflicted with incurable illnesses from birth, and many have met with sudden accidents. But it all ends the same way — with Death.
Furthermore, every first born male of the Sallow line (as Alexander was the first of his family centuries ago) is doomed to repeat the mistakes of their forebears. Many have succumbed to the pull of dark magic, as he did, and all have had a special relationship with Death.
He haunts them still, even hundreds of years later. Fueled by his vendetta against a now-dead man (it turns out immortality isn’t as black and white as one may think), Death visits the Sallow males often, effectively making them beacons of loss and tragedy.
For the symbol of the Sallows is the willow, whose branches brush tombstones and signify grief and mourning…while also reminding us of the endurance of family, of the strength and magic of love, and how it can overcome even Death.
So goes the story of Sebastian Alexander Sallow.
#as soon as we met Anne & Solomon and Ominis told mc about how their parents died I thought what in the ancient curse is THIS mess??#i was sure some ancestor had to have fucked up BAD.#like. real bad. for this to be happening. I’ve read all the Harry Potter books I know what a curse looks like 💀#just a hc/concept I went a little insane with#but yes in my universe he is canonically Cursed™️ and has no idea until…well you’ll have to read my fic 😉#apparently everyone’s been on the angst train and I’ve been keeping this one in my brain for a minute so#hogwarts legacy#sebastian sallow#hogwarts legacy headcanons#harry potter

Alright girls, guys, and gays - welcome to...
A Newby's Guide to the Marauders Fandom
You keep seeing your mutuals post about this Harry-Potter-adjacent fandom. It seems cool, and pretty damn gay, and you're kinda curious to know more. Except there's one problem: there is little-to-no actual canon.
How do you get into a fandom with little-to-no canon material?
Well friends, I'm here to help! Consider this post your roadmap to the fandom - useful locations are noted, major landmarks and tourist destinations are starred, and recommended routes are highlighted.
But where you actually go is up to you.
Level 1: The Basics
If you're the freshest of fresh meat to this fandom, you may like to start with a nice little overview of our chaos-fanon. Here are some YouTube videos that give you a good tl;dr:
a deep dive into the marauders fandom by uncarley (YouTube video, general topic, no major content warnings) - this is a great starter video, especially if you're not a fandom person usually. It's digestible, fun, and not too lore-heavy.
The Marauders Era Fandom Deep Dive! by Coffeekoe (YouTube video, general topic, no major content warnings) - alternatively (or in addition), this is another great starter video, but possibly more from a fandom-familiar perspective. Also Coffeekoe just has great vibes and I want to kiss them on the forehead. Mwuah mwuah mwuah.
Marauders Era Ships Deep Dive! by Coffeekoe (YouTube video, several different ships, no major content warnings) - after you've got the gist of how the fandom works, you might want to know a bit more about the common Marauders ships. This video gives an awesome (and comprehensive) overview.
Level 2: The Canon in the Fanon
You're going to have a pretty tough time in the fandom if you're not at least somewhat familiar with The Fanfic™️, All the Young Dudes. This fic is as highly revered (if not more so) than the real actual canon text (obligatory fuck JKR).
First off let's understand what it is.
All the Young Dudes is a long-form fanfiction written by MsKingBean89 and published on Archive of Our Own. And when I say long-form, I mean long-form - this thing is a monstrous 188 (chunky) chapters long. It spans from 1971, when the Marauders start their first year at Hogwarts, until 1995, when Remus dies. Speaking of which, it's also canon-compliant, so I'll save you some heartache and tell you right now that all of the characters die in pretty tragic ways. I'm not going to lie to you, it's a pretty heavy story - there are strong themes of child abuse, homophobia, underage drinking/smoking, drug abuse, abusive relationships, and trauma. BUT. I really enjoyed it and have read it twice now, simply because the happy bits are worth the painful bits.
With all of that in mind, here are (my recommendations for) your options for acquiring your ATYD education:
All The Young Dudes Deep Dive! by Coffeekoe (YouTube video, ATYD, some light discussion of triggering topics mentioned above, spoiler heavy!!!) - yep that's right, it's Coffeekoe again. Mwuah mwuah mwuah. This video is a super duper great alternative to reading ATYD, or a great way to dip your toe in and see if you want to commit to reading it in full. Obviously it's spoiler heavy, so if you already know you want to read ATYD and spoilers bug you, just skip it.
All the Young Dudes by MsKingBean89 (AO3 fic, mostly Wolfstar, triggers as mentioned above) - here's just a straight up link to the fic. You may need an account on AO3 to access it.
All the Young Dudes by BIBLIOBIBULI (YouTube, same as above) - if you're like me and love the idea of reading a long-fic, but don't actually have the time/energy/patience/stamina to do it, an audiobook might be the way to go! This one is great, and complete. You're welcome 🫶
Level 3: Fics of Note
Okay! By now, you should have received your official Marauders Fandom Certification in the mail (or, I guess, via owl), and you're pretty much free to go and explore the fandom on your own. You may, however, still come across references that confuse you. Those (probably) come from one of the many, many, many popular fics in the fandom.
Here's just a few of the major ones and links to them, for your convenience (asterisks indicate fics that require an account to access):
NOTE: This is not a rec list. Approach with caution and read all the tags.
Crimson Rivers by bizarrestars*
Just Lovers (Like We Were Supposed To Be) by bizarrestars*
Best Friend's Brother by bizarrestars*
Choices by MesserMoon
Kill Your Darlings by MesserMoon
All the Young Dudes - Sirius's Perspective by Rollercoasterwords
The Cadence Of Part-Time Poets by motswolo
Art Heist, Baby! by otrtbs
Only the Brave by Solmussa*
Level 4: You're On Your Own, Kid
You're still here? Why are you still here? You should be out there, enjoying your newly acquired fandom!
Fine, one last piece of advice and then you really have to leave:
Engage.
This fandom is unique because it is the weird, Frankenstein's-Monster-esque lovechild of thousands of strange little obsessive gremlin people like you and me. Sure, it only has one eye and far too many nipples, but who cares? We made this and we love it. And it's your job, as someone in the fandom, to keep it alive by engaging. Yes, this is true for every fandom, but even more so here. Comment, reblog, share, recommend fics, ask for fic recs. Fuck it, create too - write, draw, share headcanons, make playlists. It doesn't matter if it's "bad" or "wrong", there aren't any fucking rules.
Add another nipple, by all means! Eyes are overrated anyway.

some gus headcanons
we all know gus is an english nerd, with the spellingg bee episode and how much he corrects shawn with grammer. however i propose: he obsesses over literary analysis because of the Autism™️. he wants to be able to tell what people are thinking in real life that they dont directly say. does this work? who knows. not me
he DEFINITELY owns a train model of some sort. its probably in the psych office
he has a stupidly complicated fake-drawer thing in his desk, in which is a lock-picking set to hone his skillz. shawn has stolen it multiple times to break into places and gus has no idea
instead of harry potter (i shudder even typing the name) he obsesses over wings of fire. bc fuck you thats why (dragons r cool) (hp is not)
he carries around those icebreaker mint things literally everywhere. maybe its in his sample case or smth
okay so his special interests are: trains, wof, safe- and lock-picking, english, autism, and dinosaurs. he is fully aware that most of these are 'stereotypical' autism interests, and sometimes he feels bad about it. and then he remembers that No One Else Matters and everythings good again
his relationship with shawn is the kind where he just feels more and more happy being with him and never realizes that hes in love with shawn. this is the only reason canon shawngus didnt happen/j

How to remake Harry Potter:
(A step by step guide)
We’ve already had one god-awful adaptation that way too many people think is good. This is our one chance to have the book characters represented correctly, along with the plot they support.
I’ve put YEARS of thought into this. I’ve written scripts for episodes of a hypothetical tv show. I’ve drawn concept art. I’ve done shit. So I figured I’d share my thoughts.
1. Stick to the books*.
Stick to the books has a massive asterisk next to it because I mean the plot and characters. Some stuff (as you’ll see later) should be changed.
Nothing in this show should feel out of character. Harry should be closer with Ron than he is to Hermione. Snape should be a real d*ckhead. Hermione should be judgmental of those who don’t think like her, etc etc. The way these characters navigate their relationships is why the fandom is still relevant. It’s why canon-compliant fic is popular in the first place. We like their dynamics. SHOW THEM APPROPRIATELY.
Plot is a sticky thing because I’d say there’s wiggle room, but not too much. Certain characters have to die. Certain events must happen. You cant change that stuff.
2. Use the Medium.
You’re using film as a format to tell your story. Ideally you’d us animation, but I know Warner Bros has less creativity than Disney’s remake department, so I won’t even try and pitch that.
Use colour and saturation. It can help contextualize emotion. It can make us subconsciously recognize things. For instance, the scene growing more saturated when Ron walks into the room when Hermione is wearing the horcrux, or any multitude of other uses this could bring.
Bring in costume design that (actually fits the world) but also helps show how that character is feeling. What they’re thinking, their personality, their future, etc.
Make magic fun™️. The books sort of sidelined magic in 5-7. Don’t do that. Divert from the books. Magic should feel alive. Colour-code them so we as an audience can recognize spells and what they might do before we see it. Implement sound design to make each spell unique and vibrant. Make this world subtly bursting with magic like it was in the first few books. Have it weave around characters, wrap them up. Be creative with action scenes. Force transfiguration into battle scenes. Choreograph your duels. Show don’t tell us that a wizard/witch is powerful. Turn people into portraits. Lock them up as mice. USE MAGIC.
Your set design should reflect this. Everything should be bursting with personality. Don’t just use the shitty movie sets. Inject some colour, have the surroundings aid you in telling the story. Get weird with the camera. Use these tools to their fullest potential.
Actually fucking try.
3. Utilize Music.
Music is just… such a massive part of film. It’s frustrating how often even the best filmmakers overlook its use. Characters should have themes that mature and develop as the series goes on. Have action arrangements of the themes to play with heroic moments. As the series progresses, we grow attached to these themes. When they appear, the audience FEELS something. Don’t reuse great pieces to force emotion. (Dumbledore’s Farewell in The Prince’s Tale. Are you fucking kidding me?)
For example: Have a theme for Neville that starts out timid and uses very shy instrumentals, but we first hear a change when he stands up to the trio at the end of PS. Then it gains more instruments until OotP, when it grows again. Once we get to DH, it can be used in this heroic swell as he chops the head off the snake in front of Voldemort and everyone watching. The audience, consciously or not, will feel that moment even more.
Have a theme for Ron and Hermione that might not even be romantic until HBP when it gains that element. PLAY WITH MUSIC.
Themes for mystery, adventure, loss, love, friendship, LOCATION. Let them come back throughout the series to highlight various moments. See Lord of the Rings and The Hunger Games, as well as (surprisingly) the Fantastic Beasts films.
Let music affect the visuals. Magic can bend and swivel with the music. Use it to tell the story. Use it to show emotion. Use it to progress a character’s arc. USE CONSISTENT MUSIC.
4 . Be Bold.
This is the big one and it may seem like I’m contradicting myself but I’m not. Rowling’s work hasn’t aged crazily well to modern fiction standards. This is your chance to rectify that. Fill plot holes, actually think through the politics. Introduce world-building elements that enhance the story/characters. (The house system, and how Slytherin fits in. The logic behind avada kedavra???) Get creative with solutions. Contradict the original work when it comes to description of location. If it doesn’t work for the film format, don’t force it to work here.
Spend more time with characters we know are relevant, but maybe not to the plot. These are your Ginny Weasleys, your Seamus and Deans, Nevilles, etc. Really fill them in. Give them more scenes. Ginny has two phenomenal arcs that play completely off-screen, explore them. Show us her friendship with Hermione. Show us her insecurities and her faults. Give us more of her and Harry’s friendship. We know they get married, so maybe fix the whole “Rowling wrote the epilogue first, but didn’t realize she was waiting too long to introduce these characters until HBP”.
Add scenes. Add jokes. Add smiles and covert looks. You have more time, which means you have a chance to focus on friendships, and romance, and world building.
Tell multiple storylines. Give Remus and Tonks a cool spy/thriller subplot interjected with the main story in OotP. Show us more of Fleur staying in England. Give us more of Harry and Sirius bonding. All of this stuff can fit loosely into canon, and be welcome creative additions.
BE BOLD.
And finally,
5. This is your chance to not only retell the story, but to do it better.
RECOGNIZE THIS. Take advantage of this opportunity and enhance canon, don’t fight it.
Don’t add Hermione and Harry dancing because *YOU* don’t like where the romantic pairings went. Don’t add Draco sympathy because you want him to have a redemption arc. Don’t dumb Ron down because you don’t like the fact that he’s just like the teenage boys you dated in High School, and he was a bit immature.
Make changes, be bold, use music, stick to the books*, use the medium, but take this as the opportunity that it is to enhance what came before.
Thank you.

WELCOME TO PLANTONIC PALS PUNCHOUT!
If Saturday cartoons taught us anything it’s that The Power Of Friendship is the ultimate weapon that can defeat any obstacle! But can it defeat...other friendships!?
This tournament will pit Dynamic Duo vs Dynamic Duo to see who has the Ultimate Friendship. They will do this by punching other pairs in the face winning polls! The competition will be single-bracket-style (because that’s the only kind I know how to do lol)
[SUBMIT HERE!] but read the rules first :3 We have 100 fandoms represented by over 130 submissions! Thanks so much to everyone!! Preliminary polls are being organized NOW to limit the number of pairs to 1 per fandom.
Rules:
👉Characters must be (or once were) canonically friends, which means they’ve had on-screen/in-text buddy time together, or have mentioned their friendship explicitly. Characters who start as friends but lose their friendship are allowed! 👉No real people, real people playing themselves (DSMP, etc), or country-fictions (Hetalia, etc). I may accept pets or OCs IF they get multiple submissions from different people and there’s room left in the bracket (I feel bad when they lose :( ) 👉No Harry Potter or Attack on Titan. 👉Pairs only. As fun as groups are, I worry that having more characters on their team may sway the votes. Characters with DID or who otherwise have alternate identities count as a single character. 👉Canonically romantic pairs must have significant on-screen/in-text platonic time, and/or emphasis placed on buddy-hood over romance throughout the story.* (a good example is Phoenix Wright & Miles Edgeworth) This is semi-subjective & somewhat controversial, so I’ll be prioritizing purely platonic friendships. Friends With Benefits™️ are totally fine as long as they are actually friends. 👉Familial pairs are fine as long as their buddy-hood is emphasized throughout the story. (a good example is Goofy & Max)
*Sometimes characters only get together late into the story, or use the Power of Friendship even after getting together, or their relationship is on the vague side, so these duos may be included ^^ Essentially, even if they get together romantically, you’re still submitting them as friends, and confirming that their relationship is portrayed as comfortably platonic more than romantic/pining.
As for me, my name is Murphy (he/him or she/her), I’m arospec, Autistic, and I’ve never run a tournament before. I can’t make polls on desktop for unknown reasons & barely know how to use mobile, so this blog might be a bit...scuffed, at first ^^; please be patient with me.
Shameless self-plug: if you like my me, please check out my [YouTube channel] where I do art & science education, or my [Warriors/art tumblr]. Thank you!!

Master post
Okay dunno how these are done, my first time 😅
Links to all related fics below the cut
Important tags are on this post for quickly looking up certain fic posts
Asks are open!~
I am an open book, ask me what you will. There is very little I will hide :3
Shards of a Frozen Soul
"Will you be my Warrior?" Promises made, but will they be kept?
Historian and Archeologist of the Journey to the West Initiative, Dongzhi Soushirou, finds her Footnote in history far closer to home than expected. When an Old Threat with New Faces threatens Megaopolis, how can good prevail without a hero?
Speak no Evil, Do no Evil
Harry Potter x LEGO™️ Monkie Kid
How a punishment from the Celestial Court ended up in a new headache for the Jade Emperor
Lily and James were Sun Wu King and L Mihou with their memories sealed. When their child discovers the truth, she sets out on a quest to find her family!
Amount of Plot Outlined : 3 major parts planned out. Currently about half way through the first story arc
See no Evil, Hear no Evil
My Hero Academia x LEGO™️ Monkie Kid
What if Izuku is adopted by Macaque?
Princess Iron Fan being a very bored immortal that wants to screw over Heaven by making Earth prosper~
Many adoptions to cause chaos and prosperity~
Plot outlined : I’m not sure where I’m going with this one. I had a plan originally but it just fell through when writing. The chapters are actively fighting me
Sun Lilies and Moonstones
Harry Potter x Lego Monkie Kid
Assorted tales of Sun Lily and Jacque in their Hogwarts years
Cheeky Monkey
Harry Potter x Lego Monkie Kid
what if Lily and James actually looked for their kiddo and stayed together?
Aschente
Lego Monkey Kid
What if MK grew up around Anime and managed to emulate some of the abilities? If his first Memory was watching No Game No Life Zero... Will he follow Riku's path of self sacrifice? Or perhaps be the Hope his world needs to Keep Moving Forward.
Monkey See Monkey Do
Harry Potter x Lego Monkey Kid
Wracked by the guilt of what she forced upon Sun Wu Kong, Guanyin of the Wizarding World realm decided to send his latest reincarnation to the realm of another to help prevent her fellow Guanyin from making the same mistake.
Little HP sent to the Lego Monkie Kid verse as a baby monkey during the Journey to the West era. Makes ripples in both realities
Plot Progress : Chapter 1 written but working out an outline and wanting to write at least 3 chapters before posting this one
One Shots
I’ve got several one shots I’m juggling and musing. These will be rather long but consist of a stand alone story
None are post ready yet 😅
Shadow of the Plum Tree
Instead of stumbling into Megaopolis after hatching, MK finds himself at the grave of a particular Spirit unable to move on in any way. Macaque doesn’t get tortured by the Diyu in this one, he’s just unable to go far from where his corpse was burried without a living soul to latch onto
Effectively raises MK from the shadows
Shadow Plays
MK and Mei run a YouTube channel where they take old stage play and shadow play manuscripts to make animated videos of. MK’s favorite playwrite is Liu’er Miho. Little does he know the Shadow Play he goes to see with the gang is being performed by his favorite playwrite~
What is a fan to do?
“What Did I Say About Strays?”
MK has a real fondness for Stray animals. Using what food remains after his shifts to feed them behind the Shop. He already has a baby monkey and two kittens he adopted after a few… incidents…
Today felt like any other! Working the whole day, making sure the Child Services spies can tell he isn’t doing anything illegal for his age range. Helping Pigsy find ingredients without getting captured by the spooky spider lady again…
And then he finds a half dead monkey person in the trash behind the shop. Only barely stopping himself from chucking the trash bag in. Now… how long can one Teen keep hte8r papa pig from finding about the shadow? And why can’t the shadow leave MK’s side for long?

tarot questions: the magician, the moon, the lovers, the empress.
Ah, a romantic Anon! Let me do my best to answer these questions with my absolute dearth of romantic feelings or experience…
The Magician: Have you ever written a poem or song about somebody else?
Yes, but never ones I’d show to anyone else (subject of the poem or otherwise).
Unless you count this poem I wrote about Chris Pine when I was 12:
I pine for Chris Pine!
I want him to be mine!
I think he’s rather fine,
And really quite divine!
And when the stars align,
Chris Pine will be mine!
And when I learn he’s taken…
I WHINE ABOUT CHRIS PINE!!!
That’s so far in the past at this point that it’s circled back from being cringey and embarrassing to being…well, still cringey and embarrassing, but I can laugh about it and share it with others. (And even then I wasn’t writing it completely in earnest—it was meant to be funny and badly-written.)
The Moon: Have you ever written a love letter?
Nope. Never really had occasion or reason to. (Not even fan mail to Chris Pine!)
The Lovers: Do you have a crush?
Yes! He’s tall, and dark-haired, and has a lovely low voice, and he’s 27 years old (a little old for me, I know), and he works as a bounty hunter in space and his name’s Spike Spiegel and…
Okay, fine. In all seriousness, no. I’ve had lots of fictional and celebrity crushes (Chris Pine among them!), but never a crush on a real, attainable person. And anyway, looking back, I feel like a lot of those fictional and celebrity crushes were actually just obsessive/hyperfixation feelings I wasn’t sure how to label. Like, I don’t think I actually had a crush on Harry Potter at age 10, I think I was just obsessed with the Harry Potter series in general.
The Empress: Do you think you will ever get married?
Oh, God. Uh. Maybe????
I would love to get married and start a family someday. I read romance novels or watch rom-coms and it just makes me want a partner, if only to feel all the happy romantic feelings I’ve been missing out on. I watch the happy little kids on Bluey or read parenting magazines/advice columns (a weird hobby of mine) and it reiterates to me how much I’d like to raise children someday, even though I’m terrified of the possibility of messing them up. I do want that in my future. (I don’t necessarily want to have sex or be pregnant, though; if I do have kids, I plan to adopt them.)
BUT, right now, marriage isn’t really something I can envision. Getting married to someone typically necessitates falling in love first, right? And I’ve never even had a crush, much less fallen in love, much less had someone I could call a boyfriend/girlfriend/partner or initiated a kiss. And sometimes this worries me—like I’m losing track of the trajectory to Adulthood™️ and at this rate I won’t find a life partner at the Normal, Expected Adult Age™️. I mean, obviously, as I said in the tags of this post, I’m not expecting to have found the one when I’m only 20, but haven’t most people my age had at least one relationship or crush? Felt something? Haven’t they at least had some practice?
But the thing is…as I currently understand it, romance, or those “happy romantic feelings I’ve been missing out on,” isn’t something you can control. You can’t turn it on and off at will like a faucet; you can’t just decide to have romantic feelings for someone. Trust me, if I could, I would have! This is why my current conception of my sexual identity is “asexual???????”, complete with all those question marks—maybe the clichés are right and I am just a late bloomer, or I haven’t found the right person yet.
And I hate the idea of spending the rest of my life waiting, and waiting, and waiting for that ever-elusive and possibly nonexistent “right person” to come along; trying to get those romantic feelings (that sound so wonderful in books!) to stir up in me when I’m not sure they even can. But at the same time, I don’t want to completely cut off the possibility of romance in my future, or just have a marriage of convenience/for tax benefits. And I never, ever, ever want someone to pressure me into doing romantic or sexual things with them after I have made it very clear that I don’t feel that way. Never.
So I guess all I can do for now is keep reading those romance novels, and wonder, and wait.

spicy post 🌶️🌶️🌶️
truly can’t get this off my mind, but what the hell does Fandom™️ think a moodboard is?????
in all my years of art class, time spent at art school, and time served on a professional design team…
Never once has anyone ever made sure to purchase license rights for an image to be used on a moodboard. Ever.
Like, where is everyone learning about what a moodboard is, where is this definition of moodboard coming from??? I really don’t understand, and I’m not 100% sure I want to?
like it starts diving into the copyright law section which is baffling to begin with, can we not just let people harmlessly enjoy the internet?
And this is coming from someone whose department got c&d’d twice for using an improperly licensed image AND a font, lmfao (none of which was my doing, but people who had been in our dept years prior made those choices & we had to deal with it). Like, I get it. I do.
But money isn’t changing hands here, no one is profiting off of these moodboards, so ????
Are we just conflating social “currency”/clout with actual monetary value????
Every time I see that still from Outlander, or the Hobbit, or Harry Potter on a moodboard does that mean y’all are also clutching pearls over having New Line Cinema and JK Rowling paid? I doubt it lmfao
so is there not a double standard here? pay artists just not those artists?
fwiw i am extremely positive anyone working in film— like set & costume, at a graphic design agency, developing games, as a concept artist would be puzzled over the insistence that images for moodboards need to be legally licensed. They MIGHT get LOOSELY attributed at best IF it’s a pitch or if in the course of PR you are asked about inspiration, but that’s about where it ends. and they wouldn’t care much if their work was used in an inspo board for another major feature either.
tl;dr why does Fandom™️ care so deeply about moodboards & copyright, genuinely seems ridiculous, sorry if that offends anyone but 🤷♀️
tbh even weirder how that’s a hill at all on which people choose to spend their energy when there’s an incredible amount of real activism that still needs support, but maybe that’s just me
like put the moodboard righteous energy towards fucking Gaza or climate change jfc
copyrighting inspiration, like, get the fuck outta here
it doesn’t surprise me tho, I think there’s some interesting parallels between this and the backlash against AI but I don’t think anyone’s ready to go there ahaha

Why, for what reason does tar-Míriel need to be introduced to her relative, her cousin, the son of the bestie of her cousin who she's apparently close to, the son of the lord of Andúnië, Elendil?!
WHY DOESN'T THE QUEEN KNOW THE LORDS?!
Like, okay, you want to introduce this character. But WHY IN THIS WAY?!
(I really liked the portrayal of tar-míriel tho. One of the best in the show. I liked Elendil and his children, too.)
And WHY DOES GALADRIEL GET WORSE EVERY EPISODE!
Why does she look at EVERYONE like they just killed her pet?! She just angrily stares with very, very opened eyes at everyone for 25 minutes and then says her very, very terrible lines through gritted teeth angrily. EVEN WHEN SHE'S COMPLIMENTING SOMEONE OR SOMEPLACE AND OR THANKING SOMEONE! She's like that in every situation!
Why is she so horrible to people who save her?! To poor guards of a castle?!
And apparently, now Halbrand needs to calm Galadriel down, cuz strong women are so angry they can't diplomatically handle a situation. Or you know, AT LEAST TALK TO PEOPLE RESPECTFULLY!
as I've said before, being angry is not being powerful. On the contrary, a lot of times, it shows that the character is not in control. Not of their emotions, not of their actions, not of the situation. Not being angry in a situation that triggers anger and holding your composure makes you look powerful and in control. Look at villains who are calm and smiling in situations that looks like everything is against them. You know it's not. You know they're winning. Cuz they're calm. They're powerful and in control. Look at Azula in ATLA for example.
It's like a lot of times, portraying women as furious is the go to way of portraying strong female characters™️ in Hollywood. It's not. Yes, a lot of angry people are strong. But it's not the other way around. Strong people are not all angry.
It's good to have angry characters. It's good to have every kind of character. You can actually write a lovable, multi-dimensional, well-rounded, strong, powerful, dynamic, beloved angry character. But it takes writing skills. Look at Fëanor, Turin, Caranthir, Arya Stark, Harry Potter during Ootp, Zuko during 2 first seasons, Rangi, Cersei Lannister, Anakin Skywalker, Squidward, and a lot of other characters, especially in comedy. Some of the loveliest people I know in real life are kind people who have "mildly angry" as a personality trait.
You should show them being genuinely loving and caring towards some people. Genuinely kind if not nice. And not necessarily people who are close to them (though, them, too.) It humanizes them. You should show their humanity. Their vulnerability. If done right, it makes them lovely. You should make the audience sympathize with the cause of their anger. Show that their anger is eating them from inside and is not a positive thing. Show that they have other characteristics and other moods as well. Add a dash of humor to their lines and deeds and anger. In general, look at the "kind but grumpy" trope.
And...Elendil compares Galadriel to his children?!?! OLDER THAN SUN AND MOON , RESPECTED, MIGHTY GALADRIEL?!?!
THE FAITHFUL WOULD HAVE KNELT IN REVERENCE IF THEY SAW THE LADY OF LIGHT, GALADRIEL OF THE NOLDOR!
God forbid men look up to a female character and show her reverence and listen to her. No, let's put her in the most powerless, degrading situations and toss her around.
And why are the Harfoots so ableist wth!?
Also, I guess now with a hobbit and a maia and an excuse to go around Middle-earth for a uniquely adventurous hobbit, a dwarf/elf friendship, a king in exile preferably brunette about to fulfill his duty, a romance between two people of the different races of Middle-earth the Tolkien adaptation format is complete even if this second-age adaptation should have nothing to do with lotr and hobbits and the Istari don't come into Middle-earth until centuries later.
#tolkien#silmarillion#lotr#anti rings of power#the rings of power#trop#rop#rop critical#lotr on prime#anti rop#anti trop#lord of the rings#tar miriel#elendil#galadriel#my two cents#halbrand

Love Potion?
I SAW A POST WHERE A FICTIONAL CHARACTER FALLS IN LOVE WITH Y/N AND SAID FICTIONAL CHARACTER THOUGHT THEY WERE UNDER A LOVE SPELL AND GETS MAD AT THE NEAREST MAGICAL CHARACTER BUT NOPE THEY JUST CAUGHT THE FEELINGS™️
I thought for this pairing, I can introduce a new fandom. I know Harry Potter has been extremely controversial as of late but this series meant so much to me growing up. I complete disagree with JKR's views on transwomen and I highly believe that transwomen are real women. As far as I am concerned, Harry Potter is a collective fever dream that we all had as children.
Fred Weasley Fanfiction
Hogwarts during winter held a quiet beauty that couldn’t be compared to anything else, especially in the Gryffindor common room, at least, in Hermione’s opinion. Nothing could quite compare to the feeling of curling up in front of the warm fireplace, a drink by her side as she read tome after tome. It was her quiet, her sanctuary in the midst of the insanity that is usually brought about with her best mate fighting the darkest wizard in all of history.
Most of the time, the other Gryffindors knew not to bother Hermione as she was reading. She tended to get violent when she was forced to read the same paragraph over and over again. Although this time, she wasn’t being overtly bothered, hearing Fred, George and Ron arguing in the background didn’t exactly help her concentration.
“JUST ADMIT YOU DID IT!” Fred yelled angrily, his neck filled with angry red splotches, a common trait amongst the Weasley siblings whenever they got upset. “I SAW YOU SLIP SOMETHING IN MY DRINK!”
“I DIDN’T DO A BLOODY THING TO YOU!” Ron yelped as he dodged a fist that Fred sent his way.
“What exactly are they fighting about?” Ginny asked as she descended from the dorms and took a seat beside Harry, who was watching the fight, amused.
“Something about a potion,” Harry answered with a laugh. “It involves Y/N but I’m not quite sure how. You won’t try to stop them?”
“Not even mum can stop them if she wanted. She usually lets them tire each other out before she intervenes.”
Hermione’s annoyance soared. “If I have to read this paragraph again because—“
“YOU TROLL!” Fred yelled, lunging at Ron again before he was stopped by George holding him back. “I WILL—“
“ENOUGH!” Hermione said angrily, slamming the heavy book shut. She stood up, enraged, and glared at the fighting brothers. “What did Ron do that made you so angry that you’re fighting in the bloody common room while I’m reading?!”
Fred, George and Ron stared at her blankly. They looked almost comical. Fred’s hands were still in the air while he lunged at a cowering Ron with George’s arms wrapped around his twin’s middle in an effort to stop him from giving his younger brother a black eye.
“I didn’t do a bloody thing! Fred’s gone mental!” Ron accused.
“Mental?! I’ll show you mental!”
“STOP IT!” Hermione yelled before Fred could try and lunge at Ron again.
“Fred thinks Ron’s slipped a love potion in his drink,” George said, panting as he put his twin brother down.
“I don’t think it! I saw it!”
“You saw what you wanted to see,” Ron snapped. “I slipped water in your drink so you’ll finally see you like Y/N instead of following her around and whining and complaining about her every chance you could get!”
Fred blinked, dumbfounded. “What?”
As if on cue, the door to the common room swung open, revealing a gleeful Y/N, who strode into the room looking even happier than normal. Until, that is, she’d noticed the tense atmosphere.
“Everything alright, boys?” She asked the twins and Ron tentatively. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that the brothers were the source of the tension. Their usually pristine clothes were rumpled, their faces red and splotchy, making their freckles standout starkly. Ron’s hair even stuck out at the back from when Fred pulled at it in an effort to reach Ron.
“Y-yes,” Fred managed to stutter out.
Hermione cracked an amused smile. It was almost comical how Fred Weasley, the Gryffindor who always swaggered about and around the castle, fully confident in himself and his, arguably, astounding abilities, stuttered while speaking to Y/N, one of the politest, nicest and humblest person she knew.
“Alright then,” Y/N said, the smile rushing back to her face as she made the climb towards the dormitories. “I’ll see you two at Potions. I can’t believe I nearly forgot my cauldron.”
Fred stared after her, eyes wide, mouth even wider as Y/N began climbing the steps to the dormitory
“Yeah, mate. You’re not in love,” George said sarcastically, earning a snicker from Harry, Ron, Ginny and even Hermione.
“I don’t fancy, Y/N,” Fred grumbled when Y/N was out of sight.
“That’s not what we saw,” Ginny snickered. “My big brother’s in love. And with Y/N no less!”
“I am not in love with Y/N!”
“Oh no, of course not,” Harry chimed in with a devilish smile. “You only ever stare after her and always somehow comment on the smell of her perfume.”
“It’s not my fault she smells like vanilla and strawberries,“ Fred said, his voice entering a dream like quality.
“Oh, Freddie,” George tutted as he took one of the vacant seats by the fireplace. “All grown up and in love.”
“I am not in love with Y/N!” Fred insisted, taking another seat.
“I can’t blame you, to be honest,” Ron said taking another seat. “She’s got nice—“ Ron paused at the sight of his brother’s stare and reconsidered his next words. “…hair. She’s got nice hair.”
“Nice hair?” Hermione scoffed with an eye roll. “Honestly, Ronald, have you never complimented a girl before?”
“She’s really quite beautiful, isn’t she?” Ginny chimed in. “I heard, even Cedric Diggory likes her.”
“What?” Fred asked, perking up. “Diggory likes her?”
“Mm-hmm,” Ginny nodded. “I heard he plans to ask her to the Yule Ball.”
“Y/N isn’t into buff Hufflepuffs,” Fred said snapped.
“Buff Hufflepuffs who are terribly handsome, athletic, smart and a Tri-Wizard champion?” Hermione teased.
“I could have been Tri-Wizard champion. And I’m just as handsome and clever as Diggory.” The redhead said defensively. “Those aren’t qualities Y/N looks for in a boy.”
“Because you know so well what Y/N likes,” Harry mocked.
“I thought Diggory liked Cho Chang?” Fred frowned.
“Cedric likes Cho?” Harry asked, perking up. “I—“
“Looks like little Harry’s got a crush,” Fred smirked, glad to have the subject moved away from him.
“Don’t think you’re off the hook yet, Fred,” George smirked. “We’re still talking about your love for Y/N.”
“I—“
As though she was summoned, the sound of bounding footsteps interrupted Fred as Y/N skipped down the stairs, her cauldron and textbook in hand. The group openly stared at her as she descended, causing a self-conscious frown to creep up on her otherwise lovely face. “Why are you all staring at me? Is there something on my face?” She touched her face, looking for a dirty mark that the five other Gryffindors were surely starting at.
“No. Your face is perfect,” Fred said dreamily before clearing his throat to bring his voice back down an octave. George shot his twin brother a funny look, causing Fred to glare at him, which George only smirked at.
“Oh,” Y/N said, a little surprised at Fred’s response. “Thank you, Fred. Your face is looking rather perfect too.”
Fred beamed at her. “I am terribly handsome, aren’t I?”
Y/N rolled her eyes but a small smiled had begun to lilt at the edge of her lips. “Yes, you are terribly handsome, Fred.”
“You shouldn’t say things like that, Y/N,” Ginny teased. “My brother’s already big head will get even bigger. Soon enough, it might not fit through the doors of the common room.”
Fred scowled at his sister and threw a pillow at her head, which she caught easily enough. Ginny stuck her tongue out at her brother while Y/N laughed.
“We’ll see you at potions, yeah?” Fred said to Y/N in an effort to change the topic.
“Oh, speaking of potions, do you think you can cover for me? I might be a tad late. Cedric sent me an owl asking me to meet him by the lake. Said he’d like to ask me something.”
“Oh? Well, Snape won’t like that. You being late. You’re his star student.” Fred said at the realization that Cedric might actually ask Y/N out to the Yule Ball.
“Snape doesn’t like a lot of things,” Y/N said, letting out a bell like laugh. “Besides, Cedric said it was important for me to be there. He might need help with homework or his task. I’d feel terrible if I ignored a friend in need.”
“Homework,” Fred said dubiously. “Diggory’s smart. I’m sure he doesn’t need much help.”
Y/N shrugged, her smile still wide. “Who knows. All I know is that a friend is in need. The least I can do is help our school’s Tri-Wizard champion.”
“Harry’s a Tri-Wizard champion. Won’t you help him?” Fred said weakly.
“Oh. Uhm, do you need help, Harry?”
Harry shook his head, his sable hair flying. “Not at all. I’ve got Hermione and Ron to help me out. You should go. The longer you wait here, the later you’ll be for Snape’s class.”
Y/N beamed at the Chosen One. “Well if our second Tri-Wizard champion says so.” And she slipped out of the door.
“Harry!” Fred snapped the moment the door closed after Y/N. “Why would tell her that? Diggory’s going to ask her out to the ball!”
“I know,” Harry smirked.
“She’ll say yes!” Fred groaned, slumping in his seat, expression glum. “Of course she’d say yes! Even I’d say yes to Diggory.”
“You know what you’ve got to do, mate,” George said, nudging Fred’s elbow that rested on the red velvet armchair.
“What?”
“Chase after her and ask her out before Diggory does.”
Fred stared at his twin for beat before he leapt off his chair and ran out the door, leaving the others in his dust.
“Think she’ll say yes?” George asked the others.
“Oh, absolutely,” Ginny nodded her head vigorously. “Y/N likes Fred even more than Fred likes Y/N.”
Ron swore, dug into his pockets and handed a snickering George and a smiling Ginny a galleon each.
“You were betting on this?” Hermione exclaimed, clearly appalled.
“Mum’s in on it,” Ginny replied smugly. “In fact, everyone in the family is. It’s not everyday Fred gets a crush.”
“Percy even bet that Fred would never confess his feelings,” George added. “Bloke now owes me five galleons.” A devious smile slithered its way to George’s mouth. “He’d hate to know that I’m spending these five galleons on tongue-tied toffee.”
“Do you reckon he’s caught up to her yet?” Harry asked.
“Oh, yes. Most definitely,” Hermione answered.
The group paused briefly and let the ringing silence envelope them, waiting for a sign of life beyond the common room doors.
For a moment, there was no sound aside from the occasional echoing chatter of people passing by the Gryffindor Tower in an effort to get to class.
“Do you hear anything?” Ginny asked. “He should be cheering by now, right?”
“What if he got rejected?” Harry asked, horrified.
“Fred? Rejected by Y/N? That’s a bloody joke if I saw one,” George snorted.
After a few moments, they heard the sound of Fred’s lonely footsteps as he entered through the common room, a crestfallen look on his face.
“Oh, Freddie,” George said, a frown on his own face at the sight of his twin’s sullen look.
“Looks like, Y/N isn’t so nice after all,” Ginny said sadly.
“It isn’t her fault, really,” Fred sniffled as he took a seat in one of free armchairs. “I was just too late.”
“You can always ask someone else. I’m sure the next girl you ask will say yes,” Hermione offered.
Fred waved her off miserably. “No. I don’t think that’s necessary. Y/N’s agreed to be my date.”
“Oh, Fred. I’m sure if you—“ Ron trailed off as Fred’s words sunk in. “What?”
Fred’s once miserable looked blossomed as his eyes brightened and he released a loud laugh. “You all should have seen your faces! You looked more devastated than I did!”
Ginny let out a sound of anger as she threw one of the throw pillows towards her older brother who easily caught it with one hand as he continued laughing.
“You really got us there, Freddie,” George laughed good-humoredly. “I nearly fell for that myself.”
“She actually said yes? How’d you ask her?” Ron asked.
“Looking for tips so that you can ask someone yourself?” Fred teased.
“No.” Ron’s face reddened into a blush.
“I just asked her if she’d like to go to the ball with me and she said yes.”
“Did she look happy?”
“Elated.”
“And she actually agreed?”
“Of course. It’s not everyday I ask someone out,” Fred said with a confident grin.
“Now you know what your next challenge is, right Fred?” Ginny said, a mischievous smirk on her face.
Fred frowned. “What?”
“Making sure mum sends you proper dress robes so you don’t look ridiculous standing next to Y/N at the ball.”
And with Fred’s resounding groan, it seemed he agreed.

For the Fanfic writer ask game: 📃✏️😅🌾🪜
📃 Ever written something inspired by someone elses fic?
I may or may not have written a thing directly tied to the Broken Mirror AU 😶 Also, in general I think my fics are influenced by other fics I’ve read almost as much as they are by canon.
✏️ The first fanfiction you ever wrote? (doesn’t have to be a posted fic)
Oh goodness. Uh. When I was a wee person I used to do cringey self-insert text based Harry Potter RP with a friend of mine which was basically collaborative fic writing. And like, long enough ago that we started out doing it in real actual mailed letters because it predated either of us having our own computers, lol
First fic I ever wrote solo was probably for Anne Rice’s vampire stuff.
Never finished or posted (or even let someone else read) a fic until Dresden Files though.
😅 Was there a fic/chapter that you were nervous about posting? Why?
When I posted my first fic, I was so nervous I made myself physically ill basically every time I posted a new set of chapters because I was so worried people would hate it, that my writing is juvenile and cliché and just not very good, I guess. It was so my baby for the better part of two years and started out as something I was writing entirely for myself so it was extremely close to me, y’know?
I’m always pretty nervous tbh. I’ve been trying to find a more specific example and it’s literally everything I’ve ever posted, haha.
🌾 A fic you really want to write but you haven’t (yet)?
Oh, a bunch. Uh, let’s go with Freydis smut. Freydis is my girl 💙
🪜 Tell us a random fact about any fic!
With the exception of the Regency AU, Margaret LaFey is definitely still alive in literally everything I have ever written for the Dresden Files, it just rarely comes up because she’s off in the background doing Margaret Things ™️. Also, I can’t just tell a story, I have to know everything that’s going on in the world I’m writing, which means if you pick any scene in any one of my non-ficlet fics, I can probably tell you what any other character in the series is doing at that time, even if they have absolutely nothing to do with the story, even if they aren’t mentioned in the fic itself.

I’m mostly here for asoiaf, but seeing you post about Harry Potter and your fic (which I just started reading, by the way - I love it, I’m on chapter 15 and I can’t wait to see how it goes!) stirred up my interest for that universe once again. You’re pretty much the only person on Tumblr (that I follow at least) that acknowledges the nuances and grey areas in the protagonists as well as the villains, and in the wizarding world in general. So refreshing!
I wanted to ask your opinion on Rowling/the narrative’s treatment of girls, internalized misogyny and the general attitude of “not like other girls”. Take Fleur, for example: the way Mrs Weasley and Ginny act towards Fleur (to her face and especially behind her back) in HBP bothers me so much. They have literally no reason to treat her like that, save for contempt for her confident personality and good looks. I adored the scene when Fleur confronts Mrs Weasley and she changes her attitude, and I just wish that it would have happened with Ginny as well. I mean, really Ginny? Saying that Bill is with her only because she’s an “adventure”, criticizing Harry for defending Fleur, dismissing him with ‘you like the way Phlegm says “Ary”, do you?’, calling her a cow, and essentially calling her stupid and vain? Why so petty and mean?
I don’t know, I just get the feeling that Ginny, and sometimes Hermione too (with Fleur and Lavander) behave like the typical “not like other girls”™️, and I have no problem with that because it happens very frequently in real life, what bugs me is that it’s never addressed, everything is written in a way that expects you to agree with that bullshit. Ginny is never called out for her questionable behaviour, she’s praised for it instead. Do you remember when she attacked Hermione for reprimanding Harry after Sectumsempra, dismissing her with pettiness? Hermione was visibly hurt, and I would have liked a scene when they address the issue and make peace with each other.
As for Mrs Weasley, I hated when in GOF she believed Skeeter’s rumours about Hermione’s dating life instead of giving this girl she’s known for years the benefit of the doubt, and that Harry had to intervene and tell her the truth. Jesus, why blame the 15-year-old and vilify her that much for a teenage love triangle? That reeks of internalized misogyny to me.
At least Rowling has Hermione defend Cho, but the way she then fades to the background and is low key slut-shamed for dating Micheal Corner at the end of OOTP...not cool.
I’d say it’s rather distasteful that they never suffer the consequences for all this just because they’re the Good Guys. What do you think? Sorry for the rant😅
By the way, all the Canon/Fanon drama was hilarious and awful at the same time. I understand if you don’t feel like answering this ask!
Hi there!
Thanks for the nice ask! I hope you like The Phoenix Potion. I’m absurdly proud of that fic, so don’t hesitate to ask me about it... lol It’s a refreshing difference to the wild canon/fanon asks.
Under the cut for length
There are more though who acknowledge the greyness of HP characters, at least in my experience, but some insist that the heroes of the series are always good. They mix up relatable reasons with being good.
You know, I really think it is funny that JKR is a good example of how sometimes authors tell so much more than what they intend to tell. We all know that a reflection of the author’s society, their upbringing, their experience etc. is in some way present in their writing, but not necessarily on purpose. And I think this is the reason why you can read HP superficially as a hero’s tale with a happy ending (as was intended by JKR), but can also read it as a book with several grey characters (who even have considerable depth) and the description of a flawed and deeply prejudiced society that has a huge classism issue - by the end it is only Voldemort who is dead and none of the other problems are even acknowledged any longer.
So, in a way, you always have at least two levels for the characters in HP: One is the role they play in Harry’s hero tale and one is the much deeper, greyer character that reflects some the society has as a whole. Take the Weasley twins: On the surface they are comic relief, amiable pranksters, support for the heroes. If you look deeper they think that magic might makes magic right. Because they are good at hexing, jinxing, playing pranks, they do it and think the have the right to do it (just look at them selling amortentia!)
Now let’s get on to your ask: I think that Hermione and Ginny indeed have traits of “not like other girls” and that the girly girls are treated less favourably by JKR: Fleur, Lavender, Cho. I must admit that I cut JKR some slack in that regard because she grew up in a time where there were absolutely zero girl heroes in children’s books and the only acceptable girl heroes were ‘not like other girls’ persons and they were the minority. When her first book was published, that had shifted somewhat but still ‘not like other girls’ were the hero-type to use - unless the focus was on romance. So, I would argue that in that regard JKR’s handling of the ‘not like other girls’ trope is partly due to adjustment to what was the norm and in part due to her own experience.
And of course the dynamic between Ginny and Hermione on the one side and Fleur on the other is exactly like we would expect when ‘not like other girls’ happen to meet a ‘girly girl’. As you said, it happens in real life and it is a problem of internalized misogyny, on both sides.
And indeed the main problem is not that JKR shows us this dynamic, the main problem is that she does not address it. And Molly in the scene, where she finally accepts Fleur is the only one to break through that - I’ll return to that later.
I sincerely think, that the reason for this is, that JKR himself thinks that ‘not like other girls’ are indeed better, probably because Hermione is her self-insert. Part of me can even get that, because I’ve been there myself. I was a ‘not like other girls’ girl, not a tomboy, but never very girly, and it took me quite a while to escape the antagonistic dynamic with ‘girly girls’.
The problem is that JKR wrote a story that seems to be rather black and white. We can identify easily who the villains are - that is on the surface. And on the surface, she writes about the victory of the good people, and her good people are what she thinks are the superior people. Harry is, in essence, a good aristocrat, the kind of nobleman who looks after the people who are his responsibility. He questions the excrescence of the classist ideas of wizarding society (mistreatment of elves, werewolves, magical beings, murder of muggles), but the underlying bias is not really addressed. All is fine if the wizard who is in charge is a nice man who treats his elves well. The system as such is not questioned. Harry is a noble in the sense of the word, noble and good. As a wizard he is superior but he does not utilize his superiority.
So, underlying ideas are not questioned. And therefore, I think we can safely assume that JKR has the opinion that ‘not like other girls’ are better than girly girls and that real men like Harry realize that. That is why Harry is side-tracked by Cho, and Ron by Fleur and Lavender.
On the other hand, JKR is rather good at inventing characters and writing them consistently and even grey. If you look beyond the roles they play in Harry’s story many of the characters are more than just a cardboard that has to be set up in a certain place so that Harry can get safely through his adventures. I could name many examples. Remus Lupin is more than the good teacher, Hermione is more than just the brains, Ron is more than the side-kick, Draco is more than just a bully, Dumbledore is more than the benevolent old wizard, and Snape is more than the man of dubious loyalty. Even side characters have consistent traits.
I think the reason for that is, that JKR’s character have indeed a little bit of a life of their own (something I experienced while writing myself - a very strange experience). Characters refuse to be written out of the story, insist on being included into certain chapters etc.
So, on the one hand I think JKR probably wanted to describe Fleur as this beautiful, vain girl and on the other hand, her character shines through. She loves her little sister, and then there is the moment she is finally fed up with being treated badly, not to mention that she helps the trio when they are in Shell cottage.
Same goes for Molly. If you look at her, she is consistently written as ‘motherly’ (which strangely enough is another positive trait of women for JKR). These motherly tendencies usually pertain to her own children. Period. She is friendly to others, but her children come first. As the mother surrogate in Harry’s arc she adopts him (and only him) into the Weasley fold. And this is why she easily believes that Harry is wronged by Hermione. It is actually in character. And I would argue that the scene with Fleur is completely in character as well. Molly mistrusted Fleur because she thought she was only after Bill’s good looks. The moment she realizes that Fleur genuinely loves her son, she is ready to embrace Fleur. So, that is not a scene that really questions the ‘not like other girls’ women are better: It is a scene that further cements Molly’s character. And yet at the same time it is a scene that gives validation to Fleur, even though she is a girly girl.
I must admit that I think the way JKR’s character actually act against her straight forward black - white story arc occasionally is extremely interesting.
My guess is that this is mostly happenstance, that it does not happen on purpose. You can see that when JKR is asked about her bad characters (or rather grey) like Snape or Draco. Because she always insists they are bad.
So, tldr:
JKR has a consistent opinion which is shaped by classist ideas and internalized misogyny. That is visible in all the books. Her characters however are complex and grey and they in some cases at least not adjust well to her purposes and their actions sometimes unmask this bias. So, the characters might even act against the black-white arc of Harry’s hero tale, even Harry himself.
Her only female character that somehow does not fit into the tropes is Luna. That is probably why so many fans love her, including myself,
Maybe this is why I HP is still compelling to me.
Thanks for the ask!

Always love reading more Fred x reader if you’re willing to write! If you’d like a prompt maybe 11 or 34 off your kiss prompt list?
Prompt:
34. Returned from the dead kiss
Character: Fred Weasley x Fem!Reader
Fandom: Harry Potter
Word Count: 1.8k
A/n: I am so sorry this took so long, but I was definitely due to write something for one of our favourite Weasley’s! This is dedicated to all of you who, like me, are heartbroken by Fred’s death. Freddie did not deserve to die and I firmly believe that in canon...It. Did. Not. Happen. Also just as a disclaimer, this gif is not mine! Credit goes to the creator. (Finding Fred gifs is just so hard....) In addition, this prompt definitely brings me into the percy weasley defence club™️....My boy deserved so much more 🥺
It all happened so fast....you’re not sure you’ve even registered it. One moment you’re standing next to Fred as he speaks with Percy, war raging on around the three of you, and the next, Fred is pushing you out of the way, debris crashing to the concrete floors.
The last thing you hear is Percy screaming. It’s raw...sharp, something that’s etched and seared into your mind for eternity. You can’t see what’s happening, you can’t move, hitting the ground with such force. But you don’t need to see what’s happening to know what Fred has done for you. The pain in Percy’s voice is enough to know, it’s enough to tell you just what’s happened.
Minutes pass, but you don’t seem to realize. There’s a ringing in your ears, muffled voices surrounding you. You don’t remember when you’d made it into the great hall. You don’t remember anything since Fred.....since he saved you. And all you can focus on is his body. Your heart lurches at the sight of him. He’d been laughing when it’d happened. He’d told a joke....tried so hard to lighten the mood in the room, to make you all feel more comfortable. And looking at him now, you can see it...just how hard he tried. His last laugh etched onto his face.
“(Y/n).” Percy’s voice is like static trying to cut through the transmission of your brain waves. You almost don’t hear him.
You turn your head gently, craning your neck to take in Percy’s full height. He’s taller than you once thought, and yet, in this moment, you can tell just how much he doesn’t feel that way. He feels small...and lost. “Perce.”
Nobody has called him Perce in months. Since his falling out with his family, the use of any sort of pleasantries has been rare for him. But then again, you’d always been different. No one knew that better than Fred. He grimaces thinking about his younger brother but sends you a weak smile nonetheless.
“It’s doesn’t feel real to me.” He says.
“It shouldn’t be real.”
Your words cut through Percy like a knife. “You can’t possibly mean...”
“It should’ve been me Perce.” Your voice cracks. You hadn’t allowed yourself to cry yet, refusing to believe the reality of the situation. “If he hadn’t have pushed me out of the way, it would’ve been me, and he’d still be alive!”
The vivid sound of your voice brings the stares of the rest of the Weasley family. Tears cascade down their faces as they gaze at you and Percy. Neither of you notice the attention you’ve brought to yourselves, lost in the heat of the moment.
“Don’t say that.” He pleads.
Frustration grips at your heart. “Tell me I’m wrong Percy. Tell me that he wouldn’t still be here if he hadn’t decided my life was more important than his.” Desperation is all the Weasley’s can hear from you. “Can you tell me that Percy?”
Percy’s head lowers, and he refuses to look you in the eyes. “No.” He admits. And suddenly, everything feels real.
//////////
Fred doesn't feel right. He knows this isn't right. His eyes open to a blindingly white train station. And as strange as it seems, the walls don’t look like walls....they simply go on forever. The platform he stands on is solid, as he takes a few steps forward. Although he feels like he’s floating. He glances down at his hands, trying to grasp whether this is real. Where am I?
A familiar figure sits just feet away, his long cloak and snow white beard a dead give away to his identity. “Professor Dumbledore?” He asks.
The old wizard merely nods his head, granting Fred to take a seat next to him. “Sit Mr. Weasley.” He beckons. “I’m certain you have some questions for me.”
“You could say that again.” Fred jokes, letting out a chuckle. He’s not sure whether humour amuses his former headmaster, but it certainly eases his nerves slightly.
“Trying to ease the tension I see.” Dumbldore implores curiously. He’d always been fascinated by the twin’s compulsion to hide their feelings behind humour and pranks.
Fred nods. “I guess it just felt natural.”
“Hmm.” He hums. “Is there anything you wish to ask me Mr. Weasley?”
Fred supposes he has so many questions for his former headmaster. It’s almost overwhelming how many thoughts spark in his mind, each one desperate to be spoken. But he takes a moment to think, and decides upon asking the most simple, most pressing, and most direction question he can think of.
“Where am I?” The young wizard delves. The last thing he remembers is being at Hogwarts, fighting against Voldemort’s army with his family....with you. This place is certainly not Hogwarts.
“Nowhere particular.” Dumbledore evades.
“What am I doing here?” Fred asks.
“Not entirely sure.” Dumbledore replies, and Fred can feel his anxiety rise. Why would Dumbledore want him to ask questions, if he doesn’t know the answer to any of them?
Fred’s eyes search those of the wizard before him. “Am I dead?” There’s a flicker of something....and....Bingo. He’s asked the right question. Fred can sense the recognition in Dumbledore’s spirit.
A smile creeps onto his face, and he rakes his free hand through his beard. “No.”
So that means I can get back to them, he thinks. “How do I get back to my family?” He asks him.
Dumbledore retorts with a question. “Do you want to go back?”
“Yes.” Fred pleads.
“How much Mr. Weasley?” The smile on the professor’s face grows and Fred can’t help but feel like he’s being tested.
He doesn’t take the time to think about it, impulses taking over. “More than anything I’ve ever wanted before.”
Dumbledore stands, turning his body so his back is facing Fred. He begins walking into an endless sea of white. “Then you shall go back.” He says as if it’s the simplest thing in the world.
Fred almost misses it. His words are spoken so softly, he almost doesn’t hear it...before his world fades and everything that was previously and glaringly white....suddenly goes black.
//////////
You never thought someone gasping for air could make your heart soar with happiness. But it does. It’s unexpected and rapid, bringing shock to each face that surrounds Fred’s body.
Somehow, he’s alive.
He flings his body upward, heaving, as sputtering coughs rake his lungs. Fred feels as air fills his lungs, life being restored to him. His eyes open slowly, as if he’s afraid this is all a dream. But when he sees his family, when he sees you with tears in your eyes, he knows that this is real.
“Freddie?” George’s voice cuts through the shock. He’s the closest to Fred, and no one challenges him to be the first to speak. Each of you know that Fred’s relationship with George will always trump everything.
Fred lays there for a moment, a smile finding its way onto his face. Despite just being revived, strangly he feels stronger than he ever has before. “Who’s the holy one now?” He jokes with George, hoping his twin will understand the reference.
George laughs, a mixture of relief and euphoria. His twin is alive. And he’s making jokes. “I’m really not too sure.” He jests playfully.
Whether it’s the time or the place to be humorous, Fred and George don’t care. They’re just relishing in each other, and that brings a smile to your face. Things are going to be okay.
“Mate,” Fred drags the word on his tongue. “I just came back from the dead. I’d say that’s bloody holy.”
“Yeah yeah.” George has never believed in God, but now he’s not so sure. “Whatever you say.”
You stand back, watching as each of his brothers greet him and hug him. You watch Ginny fling herself onto him, before Molly and Arthur rush to embrace their son. Percy is the first to join you, once he’s spoken with Fred.
“You know it’s not your fault right?” He asks.
“No. But he’s alive,” you begin, “and I can’t dwell on the blame game, wondering what if....It’ll drive me mad.”
Percy’s eyes meet yours, an empathy in them that’s so pure and genuine. “You’re the one he truly wants to see.” He says quietly. You blink as he gestures his arm forward. “Go.” He pushes. “Go see him.”
You nod at him, turning your body to face Fred. He’s standing now, a new laugh etched upon his face...one that in contrast to before, is the easiest thing to look at. In a split second, your eyes lock and your world stops. Fred Weasley, your Fred Weasley, the one you love with all your heart, risked his life to save you, and he’s alive.
He whispers something in Ron’s ear and before you know it, he’s making his way over to you. Is this real? You have to ask yourself countless times just to be sure.
He doesn’t give you any time before he’s pulling you in for a searing kiss. It’s unexpected and bold...but it’s so characteristically Fred. You quickly adjust to the shock, leaning in to his touch. Your lips move against his like it’s the last time you’ll ever be able to kiss him. Desperation....relief....passion....love....all bound into your embrace. It radiates from the two of you in waves.
You’re positively breathless when he pulls away. And so is he. You lost him....he had died. And now he’s here, so real and so perfect.
“Please don’t do that again.” You beg. He gives you a confused look before you continue. “Don’t you ever value my life above your own. You mean too much to too many people to be risking your life for me.”
“I would do it again.” He states and you can tell he’s more than serious. “Because I love you more than I’ve ever loved anyone in my life. Because to me, your life is more important than my own.”
“Then you must expect the same from me Fred.” You say. “I would risk absolutely everything for you. But I don’t want to put you in the position where you’re forced to live without me....Merlin knows I could never live without you.”
Fred lets out a breathy laugh. “I don’t plan on dying again anytime soon love.”
“Good.” You place your hand in his. “Because if you pull a boneheaded move like that again...I’ll kill you myself Fred Weasley.”
Comfort engulfs you’re body as you and Fred embrace. It’s like a weight has been lifted off both of your shoulders, and for the first time since the threat of a looming war, you feel happy. You’re full of hope.
Fred breathes in with a chuckle. “That’s my girl.”
