Reading Sabriel right now, and I really like how necromancers can just kinda dip to the river styx (and literally leave their dead body behind) whenever they feel like it. Imagine the comedy potential. Imagine the funny ragdolls.

y'know, it is always cool and epic to stab the local hereditary lord / colonial governor in the ear with your weaving tool until he dies

It's fucked up, finishing a book series. What am I supposed to do now? Go about my life as if I'm not shaken to the core? Pretend that I'm unphased by never again being able to read this series for the first time? Other people are living their day-to-days, unaware of my anguish. Oh, how I wish I were them so I could read this series again.

1.) Imagine, The Times: In chapter seven, Steve Turner expresses three main points. First, he narrates how the changes in the cultures throughout the span of time have led to misconceptions about Christianity and christian art. According to to Turner, the view of christian artist is changing to being conformists and followers of other Christians. Christian artists want to remain in the “Christian art” box for fear of being rejected by others. His second point is closely related to the first, it is that art responds to times in several different ways. Changes in technology can make it easier to present art in larger platforms to larger audiences. Technology can be used to present art in different dimensions and that should be taken advantage of. The second way art responds to times is through science, God’s ability to create everything perfect is an amazing reason to worship him and fulfill the what if. The third way that art responds to time is through politics, artists are able to create art in times of instability whether that be health, financial, marital/relational and the artist will have a bigger impact in his/her audience. Christians do not need to believe or feel like life is perfect but rather represent the truths that the world is going through and from there draw conclusions to possible changes that can be implemented.
2.) Read this interview with Los Angeles based artist Lynn Aldrich: Lynn’s Aldrich is a story that truly touched my heart. During her interview she touches some points that I was able to relate to such as how faith comes into practice as an artist, and how our art can say a lot about how we think about environmental and other issues.
Julian Rosefeldt Video: I do not think I have ever played so much attention as I did when they were setting up the table (funny). The prayer was interesting. It was long and confusing, in the beginning I had to go back a couple of times to make sure that what I heard was what the woman was saying. And the animals at the end… sad and creepy.

Weird aesthetic art can be tripping but also fascinating.

Austin gets weirder
Artist Ellsworth Kelly has finished a recent undertaking in a building designed to play with lighting, space, and line work. I found it very interesting the polarity of reaction I experience when looking at the photos of the interior against the exterior. I find the interior to be appealing and pleasing to the eye.
The exterior, however, really is off-putting to me. I find it very curious as to why this is. The same line shapes are used as well as spacial configuration (though one could argue that this spacial configuration being inverted is where the issues lies). However, for some reason the concave arcs with the rigid lines of the inside components is something I enjoy, while its inverse seems to be more confusing than anything else.

DARING TO DREAM: THE ORIGINS OF THE DREAM:IN PROJECT
Sonia Manchanda
Manchanda discussed DREAM: IN Project, a project that can be achieve through design. According to her, “…design is a process of transformation, it is not static, but rather develops with every connection. Every intersection is an opportunity to prototype our thoughts.”

My response to Transnational Labor
I was having some difficulty finding something in this article to debate upon, until I came across this quote: "Yet these political systems, and the international relationship which underpin them, have been discussed as if women scarcely existed" (133). It was referring to the political systems of banana republics, or the Central American countries that had been dominated by the United Fruit Company. Male entrepreneurs from all different Hispanic societies got together to deal with business, leaving women out of the equation, leading to a "masculinization of the banana plantation" (133). It was thought that only men could handle the physical labor involved in gathering bananas; this same gendered labor problem is evident in today's job industries-- especially transnational labor. For example, my stepdad is one of the only non-Hispanic men in his concrete-pouring business. The company is meant for the "hands-on" type of workers, attracting many Mexican, Puerto Ricans and Colombians to come work there; they know how to perform this kind of physical labor. Meanwhile, women on the other hand, and especially white women, would be turned down if they came looking for work with my stepdad. However, some, but very few, Hispanic women worked on the banana plantations doing minimal intensity labor, so if they came to the United States to work in men's kind of labor, it would almost be more acceptable than if a white woman came looking for a job. Today, women in general are seen as under-qualified, especially to Mitt Romney. He is definitely a contributor to gendered labor. His now-famous quote, as seen on Twitter and Facebook and in a Meme, "we have a whole binder full of women," implying that he prefers more men to work for him. He thinks that women don't really have what it takes to fill the positions of men, and are therefore not fit for most jobs. I don't know what his views are on Hispanic men vs. American men in jobs, but he probably has some opinion on the matter. I like a lot of Mitt Romney's ideas, but the discussion of gendered labor reminded me of one of his ideas which I do not agree with. --Jessica Weissman, week 9

I'd climb to the top of the stairs, lean forward and go to the Wet Dimension while my lifeless body flops like limp spaghetti down every step. This is a necromancer's most powerful ability
