The Mandalorian manga deciding to spread this scene out over five entire pages, in the hands of this artist, is an extremely valid choice oh my god.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
This is such a sweet question I would love to!
These are in no particular order because my level of passion for them changes depending on my current hyperfixation, and I’m limiting myself to one character per media but giving honorable mentions because I tend to love two or three characters almost equally
1. Monkey D. Luffy!!! (Honorable mention: Zoro and Sanji)
One Piece holds a special place in my heart. I watched it on 4kids when I was growing up and it was the first anime I watched as a teenager. Luffy is so so so important to me as a character. I got myself through the worst parts of teendom by imagining that if he was real Luffy would love me. He’s such a warm, loving, and joyous character. He’s Joyboy!!! He came into the world without a family and so he made his own and that’s so special, the message that no one in this world is born to be alone and somewhere out there someone or ones will love you and fight for you. And on top of all this he’s an aroace king!!!
2. Mogami Kyoko -Skip Beat!
Kyoko was my Girl Crush™️ in high school. I remember telling my best friend “yeah if I was gay I’d date Kyoko” LMAO. Beyond that there’s just something so special to me about reading this manga over and over, watching this girl—who only knew how to live to make her existence as palatable to other people as possible—grow into herself and find her own passions and loves as she heals from the abuses she’s dealt with her whole life. (Just looking up images of her made me want to reread the whole manga)
3. Peter Parker (Honorable mention: Harry Osborn)
Spider-Man is an OG, a forever love. No matter how many years go by I’ll always circle back around to Spider-Man. I love him and his pain and his Anger Issues™️ and his iron-clad morality. The people’s hero, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He’s also responsible for coding my brain to always gravitate towards the comic relief characters. I love a jokester who quips through dangerous situations.
4. Yosuke Hanamura - Persona 4
So I always joke that a majority of my favorite characters fall into one of two categories. 1. Hides their insecurities behind jokes/false bravado, and 2. Internalized homophobia/in love with best friend. And the characters I go FERAL for have both. Yosuke Hanamura is one of the both. I love a comic relief character!!! I love a man that’s hopelessly in love with his best friend but won’t admit it because he’s terrified of the implications!!! When I played this game for the first time, like most people, I was SO MAD THAT I COULDN’T DATE YOSUKE. 90% of the time when I play I don’t end up dating anyone because I refuse to deny the protag his one true love lmao. Yosuke and Yu also have the bonus of being my first ever gay ship. Their love is so powerful it pierced through my own internalized homophobia lol!!
5. Din Djarin -The Mandalorian (Honorable mention: Luke Skywalker)
I’m out here projecting so much onto this man!!!! He’s autistic, he’s asexual, he’s Traumatized. My other category of favorite characters is “Stoic Dad who learns to love again through a pseudo child figure” so he’s right up that alley. The man responsible for finally getting me into Star Wars after 27 years of having absolutely no interest.
6. Virgil Hawkins!! - Static Shock (Honorable mention: Richie Foley)
The way I waited with baited breath for every Static Shock episode as a child. It’s still one of my favorite shows, I own all 4 seasons on DvD and cherish them. I love Virgil so much!! He taught me about diversity! He’s such a lovable character and it makes the show an absolute delight to watch no matter how dated some parts of it get. The show does such a wonderful job balancing Virgil’s super heroics as Static with the heroics of every day life and it’s so endearing.
7. Oliver -Space Boy (Honorable mention: Amy)
Oliver is definitely the most niche character on this list (which is a crying shame please PLEASE read Space Boy on Webtoon it will chemically change your brain.) I’m just so attached to him. I feel so much for him and his story. If I could give him the biggest hug I would in an instant. “Take away his humanity and you can ignore his pain. Define him as a tool and you can justify using him.”
9. Rex Salazar - Generator Rex
Oh maaaaaan I love this asshole teenager!! I’m soooo obsessed with characters who get dehumanized for the sake of using their abilities like a tool and not a person. Re: the above Space Boy quote. The aesthetic of this show is so cool! (Also hello character who hides their insecurity behind false bravado.)
8. Aang - Avatar the Last Airbender (Honorable mention: Zuko)
Oh Aang… My sweet boy… my beloved… He imparted so much wisdom to me growing up… and also taught me it’s okay to have fun. I’ll always love him so much. There’s so much to rant about Avatar but it would take three hours.
10. Yugi Mutou - Yu-Gi-Oh! (Honorable mention: Atem)
I related to Yugi SO MUCH as a kid. He’s just a little weirdo who loves games and craves friendship more than anything. Honestly Yugi might have been the character I most strongly related to when I was young. I remember feeling swells of happiness when people would say nice things about Yugi as a character because it felt like they were saying nice things about me too.
#sorry this got long#you activated my trap card (autism)#long post#Penn answers things#dnana-2809-blog#thank you for asking I love getting asks!!!!!

tuesday again 9/5/2023
moving closer to your best friend means hanging out in big groups a lot of the time. while this is theoretically good for mental health or whatever, in practice i overextended myself this weekend and am going to wake up tomorrow with the mental equivalent of a sore lower back
listening (2x bonus)
very fond of måneskin's new single HONEY (ARE U COMING?). sonically different from their other stuff, lyrics and tone-wise another incredible sad banger! spotify
youtube
my sister viewed the film Party Girl (1995, dir. von Scherler Mayer) last week at a party in philly and sent me this song featured in the film with no further explanation. Double Cross by First Choice (a Larry Levan remix) has what i want to call bollywood strings, a flute, and the funkiest bassline backing up some really classic disco vocals. First Choice were a group out of philly, which no one at the party knew at the time, and this blog calls this specific remix "dancefloor soul" which is probably as good a descriptor as any. i have had it on loop for a solid week. lyrics include
Love stealing, double dealing, two-timing lowdown son of a gun
which is just so much fucking fun to sing in the car. spotify
youtube

reading (2x bonus here also)
i read the mandalorian comics in between volumes of berserk, which feels a bit like saying i took a break from watching the evil dead franchise to watch some cocomelon.
the mandalorian comics are a remarkably uninspired nearly shot by shot breakdown of the episodes. not in the way most film/tv comics are, where they’re very clearly traced screencaps, but screenshots redrawn. this would be interesting if the artist was not contractually obliged to the very flat marvel comics style. i am constantly reminded of how the mandalorian is simply…not very good. it’s entertaining as a spectacle of television to watch, but there are not a lot of fun ideas in there. something that made me fucking scream with laughter are these panels of baby yoda
pápá, your son is So high
back to the other series with a dark haired, roaming, grouchy, reserved man on a mission. unfortunately i don't have a lot of berserk thoughts just yet, i am waiting on vol 4 to come off my library holds and my brain is still digesting it. anyway i think not wanting random "friendly" embraces from strangers is a very reasonable thing for guts to dislike and i truly do not understand why ppl in-universe get so fucking offended. unfortunately reading these late at night did lead to an unpleasant sleep experience.
bitches love a fucked up interior space that can't ever actually exist (it's me i'm bitches)
not to be all therapeutic but im trying to be Curious About and Gently Interrogate why i get a real bee in my bonnet once a year to read some horror comics/manga when i am big squeamish baby about film depictions of those things. i think mostly bc comics gore is so much more stylized than some of the very effective practical and cgi effects? and crucially nothing is actually like writhing around on screen it’s a still image? does anyone else’s brain have a much easier time handling still images over moving images of gore? much to consider
as with many other things, me reading berserk is indirectly @dying-suffering-french-stalkers ' fault
-
watching
i have viewed the first four episodes of Fire Force, the urban fantasy mercenary firefighter anime and do not think i will be continuing. while i have a great many questions about the worldbuilding (gravitational anomalies?? genetic predisposition to spontaneous human combustion?? solar god nuns??) it has a dead mom plot, which i am allergic to. this is also a 7.5-8 on the Ass part of the Weeb Ass Shit scale, and has a lot more casual assault than i try to encounter in anime. it's by the soul eater guy, remember the level of Stuff going on in soul eater? a little bit more ramped up groping and stuff that makes me say out loud "wow i don't like this" than soul eater.
the animation re: aforementioned fire is really top notch tho. visually complex and interesting television program.
youtube
how i found this: me and my best friend and my best friend's husband morosely poking around the anime section on hulu, looking for something to fill the spy x family void. this ain't it tho
-
playing
i have no fun genshin tidbits to share bc i am grinding talent mats while catching up with the podcast episodes of the road to partizan and i don’t have much to say about the not-fun parts of gachas. why am i playing something if it’s not inherently fun? great fucking question
-
making (3rd 2x bonus)
very uninspired (derivative, even) abbreviated sofrito thing over rice. with heavy application of Worcestershire sauce it was fine. no pics
also i finally bought a couch bc salvation army had 50% off everything for Labor Day. this is a question of ethics vs money i have decided for myself, and encourage you, the reader, to go off and quietly make your own philosophical choices without explaining them to me in detail.
it will be arriving on friday bc that is when the strapping young men who own trucks are available. my front door is a very non standard size and i have a very awkward front stair, so i needed something that could fit under the overhang while standing on its end. this one was the best size and (fortunately) the cheapest at $150. it is some sort of extremely flammable early polyester and 100% has a grandma’s soul trapped within its fibers. i will probably buy a cover at some later date to deter miss macaron but in the meantime we will do the strips of brown painters tape, which does successfully deter her. this really really does not want to be steamed so i will also be procuring some chemicals.
here are some other couches i could have bought but didn’t.

Hello..If you don't mind me asking, can I ask, what are your top 7 (or top 10) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series/etc) and your top 10 favorite (fictional) characters from any media? Why do you love them all? Sorry if you've answered this questions before......
Oh, that's a fun question because it's constantly in flux. I get a hyperfixation binge and usually bounce around whatever I like because otherwise I get bored. But there are quite a few I go back to, and I always have a favorite character whether I like the media or not. So.
Top ten media? This is definitely not in order and I might ramble-
Danny Phantom
I come back to this one a little too often because of how the fandom has managed to make it so much more than the show- I love lore and worldbuilding and the way people have built off this show is fascinating to observe.
The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation // The Untamed
This is another I return to a lot. It's a story of how everything goes wrong, and while there is a villain at the end, ultimately the blame is on the collective characters. It's also neat to see so many adaptations of the original material. I also like to remember that I had no idea this was a novel about guys pining after each other because I was just looking for something interesting to read and it got recommended by a friend. Who said nothing. And then mentioned I was equally as dense as some characters.
Homestuck
This one will always have a place in my heart for being incredibly weird and weirdly influential. Despite the fact I haven't read it again in years, I recall so much about it and enjoy engaging with my fellows- I volunteered at a con once and saw the most gorgeous Karkat cosplayer, we had a nice conversation while I tried to get the system to read their ticket. The community of this fandom is a nice thing, especially since at least once or twice a year we can see who is still in the world.
Percy Jackson
Where most people get into mythology thanks to Rick Riordan, Greek mythology got me into Percy Jackson. Modern day interpretations of myths are so intriguing, even if some interpretations could be argued with. It's also funny that I got my first Percy Jackson book at a summer camp. (It is not a surprise that I now have an EPIC the Musical fixation.)
Lord of the Rings // The Hobbit
I'm a huge classic fantasy nerd and this was a way I bonded with my grandfather over the years before he passed. It's influenced a lot of how I interpret other takes on fantasy and sets such a high bar. I also like that it's an encouragement of hope and faith in the little things of life that make it worth the fight. I wrote a lot of high-school papers on Tolkien.
Batman / DC Comics
While I do love comics, I do have a returning fancy in the Gotham Knights and their allies. Especially since in a world filled with corruption, an unjust system and too many broken pasts, it shows a person can make something of themselves to help others rather than just hurt. And that it is never too late to turn onto a better path. Also, just like LOTR, I wrote a couple of papers on Batman in college.
Star Wars
I grew up on Star Wars. Even with this weird output to the franchise Disney is trying to put out, I feel there are parts of it that are great to come back to. If I had to pick specifics I would mention the Mandalorian, but I favor the era around the prequel trilogy- both before and after.
Critical Role / Dimension 20 / TAZ
If I could just say DND I would but I had to list the top three for me. As I mentioned before I'm a hug fan of worldbuilding and lore. I also really like complex characters who are neither good nor evil, just trying to go about their lives. Found family is also one of my favorite tropes, and these three pull that off effortlessly.
Howl's Moving Castle
Both the book and movie are fantastic, I enjoyed both forms of this story in a way that I only ever enjoyed the vast differences between the How To Train Your Dragon movies and books. I like how it's a good example of adapting a book without being entirely off-putting.
Arcane
Just barely making this list because the second season just came out. But honestly? Arcane is so good. It takes such an artistic approach to its animation and gives vibrancy to its characters you don't typically see outside video games or movies. The story writing and dialogue are excellent- I could rant all day about it.
And now, Top Ten Characters from media...
Shang Qinghua from SVSSS
So many reasons. Top three? Such an unreliable narrator, understandably a sell out and holds a better romance than the technically main character of the novel.
Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars
He's on the sidelines of a lot of the main story as a mentor, brother, friend- despite being one of the most tragic characters in the entire timeline.
Stiles Stilinski from Teen Wolf
My friend dragged me into watching the show because she didn't want to watch alone and he was the most redeeming quality of it. The sarcasm, the wit, the untapped potential.
Dick Grayson // Nightwing from DC Comics
A complex character with an even more complex series of issues in his life that never let him have a moment to breath half the time. He has so much repressed rage it's funny he's considered the happy one.
Kim Dokja from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
This one is basically me being way to empathetic with a character and another reason for therapy. He needs a hug.
Aizawa Shouta from My Hero Academia
As weird and "way too much" the fandom can be, Aizawa is worth it. Crazy and a mentor figure.
Taako from The Adventure Zone
Again, love complex characters. I also like convoluted pasts and people with intimacy issues who are also huge flirts.
Fai Fluorite from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
This poor guy was my first "wow what a character" for way too many reasons to list. Probably the crippled sense of self worth.
Ruby Rose from RWBY
She has such a good character set up and had such a strong sense of self. That plot did NOT help, but she's coming out stronger for it.
Yor Forger from Spy X Family
This one is purely because I love pure of heart dumbasses with too much badass and not enough sense.
As much as I like certain pieces of media a lot it's not a guarantee that I like the characters, and vice versa. Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble! This is what is currently on my mind when it comes to immediate favorites, though I definitely love far too many pieces of media- a lot of anime, and a lot of fantasy.

Many thanx to @igotsnothing for tagging me! I honestly did not understand crushing on another simmer's Sim until she shared her aged-up Lou. It's a totally platonic crush, but a crush nonetheless. I just feel so…something whenever that reluctant loner appears on my dash.
~~~~~
last song: More than Words by Extreme - Really love this song. There's nostalgia in it, but isolated from any freshman memories, it's just a good song with a great arrangement. Bonus.
last show: I… don't know. It was probably something on Viki.
currently watching: Nothing at the moment. My to-be-watched list is long, but I can go months or years without watching anything. Although, if you want to include things that I was caught up on that have a new season (or two) that I haven't watched yet, then, Dark, The Mandalorian, Shadow and Bone, The Bad Batch, The Umbrella Academy, and The Witcher. When will I start the new seasons? Your guess is as good as mine.
currently reading: Lots of manga/comics/webcomics. There was a time I refused to read ongoing works, but I got over that. Some that I count the days until the next installment are Semantic Error, Wotakoi, Twittering Birds Never Fly, Love Nest, One-Punch Man, and the Dublin Murder Squad series.
current obsession: My usual answer to this question is BL, but if I really think about it, it's truly... just reading. I read everyday, at least 2 complete stories or volumes of something and at least 4 chapters of various ongoing stories everyday. Though my interests skew POC and queer, if it's fantasy or sci-fi, I may read it regardless.
~~~~~
Thanx, again!
This is an open invitation, but I would appreciate if @minnichan, @mywitfailsme, @hiwatari, and @arianwells played along. Though, feel free to save it for a rainy day or skip this turn.

So, there's a mandalorian manga series coming out rn. It looked interesting until I read the info. It's just another book adaptation of the episodes AGAIN.
Instead of giving us new standalone stories or one-shots, they keep releasing books, comics, and (now) manga of seasons 1 & 2.
I know it's not a big deal, but the most new content we've gotten is an OK-ish 3rd season and an upcoming movie next year. For a show that was supposed to be the flagship Star Wars streaming series, it's been sidelined a lot.
I just needed the scream into the void about this bc I wanted better lore, and we've barely gotten any.

Some things I noticed in Armin's appartment
Most important one: Rocket.
Unpacked boxes. So chances are he just moved in/back to town? Because if I remember correctly, Alexy in UL says that Armin doesn't live in Amoris anymore…
Genshin Impact and Final Fantasy XV posters. There are two other ones but I don't know what video games they are referring. There's also a Totoro one above his bed.
I don't recognize all the figures but I notice a baby Yoda (Star Wars, more precisely from the series The Mandalorian), a Pikachu (Pokemon), the Master sword from The Legend of Zelda and the two funko pops remind me of Jinx and Vi from the League of Legends game (or the Arcane series). Even if for the latter I have a doubt but it seems to match. The figurine behind the funko pops gives me the vague impression to represent Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII (long black hair, black short, high socks and red shoes) but it's too blurry to be 100% sure. For the others, no idea.
I also noticed an Akira comic book.
There's a ps5 controller on the sofa. BUT the weirdest thing about this shot is the presence of flowers, a candle and books that don't look like comics/manga. Like, I can't imagine Armin buying little flowers of his own or even candles. Maybe it is for the aesthetic but... weird. 🤔
And that is all. Thank you for reading!

since i've had firelights asking, these are the fandoms i'm in that i will write for/make content of! (italicized is content tailored towards bigger headspaces so be cautious! bolded are current favorites, but i still love them all and will be updated frequently) don't see the fandom you're in? just ask! even if i'm not 100% aware of it i can still make edits and boards of the character you're looking for! all i ask is that you please take a look at the rules before interacting!!

Book Fair Best Moments:
- Kids getting excited over an FGTeev comic book and telling me all about the show and why I should watch it
- I dropped a first grader’s raffle ticket on my way to do announcements and didn’t find it until her class came to the library, and she was very understanding and told me “It’s okay, mistakes happen!”
- I told a prek teacher that one of her students was precious, and the girl in question said, “I’m always precious!”
- Explaining to the kids getting Pokémon manga how to read them “backwards” because of the way Japanese works and it blows their minds
- Learning SO MUCH about Jojo Siwa because she’s got books out now
- Boys wanting to buy the rainbow sequin journals because they were pretty
- This one girl seeing a Charlie Brown book and went off on an impression of her mother doing a “back in my day” lecture
- Letting a third grade boy use his raffle ticket to buy a journal instead of a proper book because he had so many stories he wanted to write
- Teachers telling me to keep the change for their purchases so I can use it to help kids cover sales tax
- Kids getting excited when I tell them that the money the school earns from the fair will be used to buy more library books
- Kids giving me suggestions for books I should buy for the library
- Needing to keep a class occupied for five more minutes and throwing on a random Brandon Farris video because he works pretty clean and I can spin it into a Teachable Moment about why we shouldn’t do things we saw on the internet
- Kids excitedly telling their teachers after class “WE SAW A WATERMELON EXPLODE!!!”
- One boy used his raffle ticket to buy a book for his mom
- Third graders getting all hyped to deliver book fair news on the morning announcements
- Multiple kids buying Mandalorian books because “my mom loves Star Wars and she’ll read it to me!”
- Teachers buying books for their students
- The third grade girl who thinks we’re sharing a big secret because I gave her the extra money she needed to buy the book she wanted and “I don’t do this for just anyone” *wink*
