re: convos about hazbin hotel's rating and kids being in the fandom.
i looked into what Amazon's Hazbin Hotel is rated and the confusing matter of the 16+ to 18+ rating. basically it's not uncommon for the (imo, broken) rating system to tag darker episodes with a higher rating than others, the intent is to let you know what the current episode will get into, but the fault is that it risks initially giving the impression the series is for a younger audience than it is.
& it *seems* the UI for the series page on Amazon defaults to the highest rated episode--bc it *was* 16+ before all episodes released, then bumped up to 18+ once episode 4 was there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
here's the rating on episode 4, which if it's the same as every other Prime episode i've watched, would've been briefly in the upper left corner in small text before fading away, easy to miss and lacks what would be more fitting verbage (i.e. sexual violence.)
Tumblr media
and, here is what Hazbin Hotel's *official* certified ratings are, according to IMDb:
Tumblr media
in relation to a shocking amount of kids being in the fandom, i tried to look into whether or not the Hazbin Hotel Pilot episode and/or Addict were age-restricted. y'know, bc everyone keeps saying it's an "adult show for adults." (which it is but ykwim.)
and it seems like there weren't/aren't. i checked in a logged-out browser if i'd get any sort of "this video is age restricted" or "sign-in to confirm age" YouTube filters. i didn't. i also tried playing them in Discord (bc usually if a YouTube video is age-restricted it'll stop you and make you view it on YouTube where it can confirm your age) both the pilot and Addict played without a problem.
(if someone else tries and finds they *did* hit an age-restriction block feel free to let us know.)
in addition, it seems a few redditors were discussing this very thing back when it came out, so they were either mistaken or it never had an actual age-restriction on it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the pilot's warning isn't even at the top or in caps or anything, it's a very casual "be warned this is aimed at older audiences hehe there are bad words and innuendos" line in the middle. not even "for" older audiences. "aimed" at them.
Tumblr media
and as we know Addict has a proper warning at the start of the video that is as follows:
Tumblr media
but, again, i was able to access Addict easily in a logged-out YouTube window which seems to indicate it had no age-restrictions on it.
i checked YouTube Kids itself and the good news is neither the pilot nor Addict show up in the search. the bad news is YouTube's content moderating is still lax enough that any dumbass can try and content-farm kids with whatever is recently popular, so a small handful of Hazbin-related videos like piano tutorials and silly crafts of the characters can be uploaded and labeled as "for kids" by those people. bc it's "just an innocent piano tutorial!" "just an innocent craft!"
Tumblr media
but of course most of the "kids" we see in the fandom getting yelled at are generally 13-16 and up, just including the above for full context.
all-in-all i'm not trying to say that not age-restricting the pilot or Addict is some predatory action taken by viv, but to me it was/is a very poor ignorant or oblivious decision.
yes kids will always seek out content that isn't for them, but imo that's *why* the bear minimum is age-restricting and making it *clear* it's not for kids. it's for your own protection too.
if you put all the barriers up and kids still jump over them people can easily see it wasn't your fault. same goes for when construction sites or dangerous hills have warnings so they're not at fault if someone ignores the warnings and gets hurt.
but if those construction sites, hills, or videos made "for adults" don't have those warnings loud and clear, you're gonna get faulted, and you're gonna get kids running around even *more* confident that they belong there bc they were barely warned that they don't.
Thank you for laying it all out like this. This illustrates exactly what the problem is.

look, i know that workload isn’t the only factor contributing to the ACL epidemic, but the fact that it’s not even 30 days into 2024 and you could already field a starting 11 of woso ACL injuries, and fifa only want to add more games to the load with that club world cup in 2026? they’re just hungry for money.
on paper, a club world cup is awesome. but there’s about 38303849 things that need to happen first. yeah, there needs to be research, but there already has been so much research that clubs aren’t using. better playing surfaces, equipment made for women, more PTs per player, more staff in general, diet planning around menstrual cycles, better accommodations, i could go on and on. and clubs and federations around the world need less disparity within their own leagues.
there is research, but it’s all fucking useless if no one USES IT.
(the tailoring of nutrition around cycles bit is really interesting and i would suggest listening to the episode of the recap show where christen and tobin interview dawn scott. i’ve linked the episode here but you can also find it on youtube and skip to the interview)

Love seeing Azula's progression of being able to use lightning
Putting this under a cut because its very long. Also I'm going to make a separate post/posts because there's a lot to talk about her abilities when it comes to lightning bending and firebending advancement in general
Book 2 - Episode 1 - She has to calm herself down before doing so, and do the full range of motion to generate the lightning how she wants to
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book 2 - Episode 8 - She still has to do the motions, but can do so while moving, the range of how fast/intently she has to focus on the physical movements is lessened
Tumblr media
Book 2 - Episode 18-19 - We don't actually see Azula do the motions when she summons lightning this time, but she seems to not need too much time to generate a large blast as it only takes a short time for her to not only move into position from the first screen cap to the second and generate enough lightning to cause significant damage
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book 3 - Episode 13 - While she doesn't actually bend lightning, we do know generally this is the motions one might do when summoning it, Azula now needs to barely do many if at all full motions other than centering herself and pulling the energies apart to generate and shoot lightning
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Book 3 - Episode 16 - in my opinion, i think here she has to use the full range of motion because for 1) she is powered up by Sozin's comet, and so the lightning she generates is immensely more powerful, and for 2) she is losing her edge due to the mental instability which has put her back in terms of control and discipline with her power
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Search - PT1 - At this point Azula has been able to master lightning so much that she hardly needs to do any movements at all to separate the energies. Similar to how Iroh taught Zuko how to re-direct lightning, Azula has found ways to harness and control the pathways the lightning takes without any real assistance needed outside using her index finger and middle finger as a bridge for the lightning to strike out of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Search - PT 1 /2 - At this point we see Azula only needs to concentrate doing motions when she is doing something unique with the lightning. In this case we see her make a literal ball of lightning for bugs to follow as a giant bug-zapper so to speak. This feat she is still able to control using just 1 single hand when the ball is created and she can launch and control it's pathway after it's manifested with very little energy seemingly spent from her as she's able to stand and be fine with the only detriment being her hands seemingly possibly burned a bit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Search - PT 2 - At this point she has shown an ability to very easily separate the energies around her with very little need for motions or centering herself. Able to create lightning blasts nearly at the point of her finger with no assistance of generating or controlling it like before.

Note
I just listened to Meg Linehan’s podcast about the Round of 16 and she had a lot of praise for the Re Cap show and their tactical insights. I think that show and the most recent episode specifically has really opened ppl’s eyes (especially the woso journalists covering the World Cup) to the fact Vlatko’s system isn’t setting up the players and the team to succeed and it’s played a huge role in why they look so off
that's awesome!

Never Not Old
Never Not Old Eileen Way is one of those actors.  We’re reasonably certain, but only just mind you, that she was middle-aged, perhaps even younger, at some point, although we swear we can’t remember it.  And, more importantly for our purposes at this point, Doctor Who provides plenty of evidence to prove the point. There she is as Lady Karela in The Creature from the Pit in 1979, the nasty, wizened spine behind the equally nasty Lady Adrasta.  And there she is again–16 years earlier!–almost at the very beginning, in the middle two episodes of An Unearthly Child as the ‘Old Mother’ in the Cave of Skulls. She even appeared in the second Peter Cushing movie in 1966 as ‘Old Woman.’  Way was born in 1911 which means she was only 52 when Doctor Who came into her life and career.  She wasn’t old.  It just always seemed to be that way. After all it pays to specialize. The new-ish, young-ish HD caps for The Creature from the Pit are now online. The only way to change your reputation is to replace it with another. The things you’ve done are what determines your reputation. That is, your past. And there’s no way to change your past, so my opinion of you isn’t going to change, either. The things you’ve done won’t ever go away.

After watching the first episode of F4 Thailand, I wanted to see if it was darker than the Japanese version and surprisingly, they’re pretty much the same and Matsujun’s Domyouji is just as psychotic, dangerous, and tightly wound.
Disproportionately violent overreaction to an accident?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Check.  He’s seriously so tightly wound, anything can set him off.  Also, I’d recognize that trademark Matsujun hip pop anywhere lol.
Menacing aura that makes you believe he can snap any second with crazy eyes?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yep, check.   MJ is seriously so good in this role!  He’s definitely physically the smallest out of all the actors who have played Domyouji/Dao Ming Si but omg he sure is intimidating when he wants to be.  Quite a feat for a skinny Johnny’s boy who prior to this role was mostly known for being a pretty boybander who is 5′9″ at best.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he reacts to her is more like a caged animal eyeing and circling its prey than a human.
Warning - lots more caps after the cut
Gleefully drowning your fellow student lackeys for failing to bully Makino into quitting school?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Bahaha, black toenail polish?  Never change with your flamboyant ways, MJ)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mm-hm.  Oh and look, he tries to drown not just one, but three students.
Cold and uncaring mother?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know it.
Tumblr media
This is just here because I thought he looked good even with that atrocious shirt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Walk, walk, fashion baby.  Over 16 years later and I still love MJ’s ridiculous runway strut that any fan can easily recognize from a mile away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok, but I don’t remember MJ looking this good in HYD?! And I was OBSESSED with him back then.  I still feel like Chen Xingxu has similar vibes and even looks like him at some angles.  Maybe it’s the thick dark eyebrows, lip area, and pale skin.  Anyway, if China ever wanted to do a proper remake of Meteor Garden, I volunteer Chen Xingxu as Dao Ming Si.  They can age them up to college age like the original Meteor Garden if they have to.
But back to more violent Domyouji.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, definitely a normal and healthy reaction to a simple question.
Tumblr media
Are you even Domyouji if your fashion sense wasn’t expensive trash?
Tumblr media
He could seriously bore holes into her head with how intensely he’s staring at her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah buddy, probably shouldn’t be saying that kind of stuff to your future otp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ugh, this punch is still so satisfying to watch after so many years.  I love Inoue Mao as Makino Tsukushi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure those are heart eyes on his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Domyouji: Is this love?
Anyway, in conclusion, I think I’m going to re-watch HYD while waiting for new episodes of F4 Thailand.

Snow White with The Red Hair chapter 16
Chapter re-cap and my thoughts reading it today ☺️💕
Tumblr media
Ahhh! My sweet baby boy Prince Zen!!! I always try to avoid this chapter/episode because it hurts my sooooouuuullll, but I decided to bare through and read it today and gah!!! So good!! This chapter is so vital! Everyone thinks being a Prince is all luxury, you know? But here, we see the struggle that poor baby Prince Zen has to go through. This chapter takes us back in time to when Zen was 13. He has never been allowed to really socialize with anyone, especially those far below his ranking -- forbidden. But this adorable little punk/adventurer of course, sneaks out (jumping out a window I might add) and happens to meet a boy around his age, working at the palace. They continue to meet in secret for quite a few months I'd say? (We're not really sure of the time frame). And we watch these two little cuties bond, and basically become besties. One day, Atri, (the boy Zen's been sneaking out to see), informs Zen that his shift has changed from day to night, and asks him if he'd be able to sneak out to see him at that time -- Zen agrees. He then sneaks out the next night to see Atri, and finds him on the ground, out of breath, and terribly injured. Zen falls to his knees, wondering what has become of his friend. Bandits soon appear, and confess that they are the ones who attacked Atri -- as a means to lure Zen there, and threaten to kill him, if his older brother (Prince Izana, who I might add -- Ruined their way of life -- or so they say) does not come and show his face. Prince Izana soon shows up, the bandits threaten him for ruining their life, and Izana instantly shoots them down, roasts them, and tells them like it is. Obviously, they're triggered, and a whole battle breaks loose. And amidst all this... Atri... Prince Zen's best friend... Points a bow and arrow at him 🥺🥺😖😖. NOOOOOOO!!!!! But cutie patootie pie Zen refuses to fight back -- just stares at his friend in sadness, and in pain. Zen skillfully blocks the arrow with his sword, and his aide (bodyguard) disposes of Atri 🥺🥺🥺. And get this, you guysssssss 🥺😖 even after Atri shot at Zen... Zen instantly falls to his injured friend's side, in tears 🥺😭😭😭. Oh sweet baby. And then... And then Atri... His last words (you see on the picture)... Ahhhhh... "I wish... you'd never been born... a Prince." WAHHHHH. I started crying when I read that todayyyyy.
Tumblr media
I've watched and read this story so many times you guys, and this scene still hits me. And this time, I think it may have hit me in another way. It wasn't his flipping choice. He was just born into it. He doesn't even want this position. Even when he's older in the story. He still does everything to get away, at times, to try to feel like a normal person. Can you even imagine? Finally finding someone you thought you really related to and were close with... Draw a weapon at you... Just because of where you stand in life?? I can't... Ow ow my heart 🥺😭😖😫. I have so much effing respect for Zen. He's had to go through sooooo much crap due to his position. Yet he stands strong, and upholds his Princely duties (most of the time anyway hahahaha). And he's been able to be patient and wait, and finally find people he can love and trust. And that also hit me different this time. I myself have tried with many people for relationships and friendships alike, and almost ALL have "betrayed" me in one way or another. And it's the hardest thing to get back up, and to be patient, and to have faith, that one day you WILL find people you can surround yourself with who don't want to use you, they just want you for you, as you are, totally and completely and this is what Mitsuhide tries to explain to Zen at the end of the chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My goodness it's so cute, AHHHHH!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ kudos to Prince Zen!!! He is a true light and example ☺️ what a powerful chapter! (Sorry to anyone offended that I didn't talk about Mitsuhide, when this is literally his chapter on how he met Zen and everything... And don't get me wrong, that's amazing and super important, it just didn't hit as hard this time, ya feel?).
p.s. sorry for the bad pics, I have hardcopy manga, not digital 😅😜✌️

G4 2.0: A Longwinded Eulogy
November 16, 2021 - the G4 cable channel relaunches after seven years away, a rare second chance for a mainstay from the era of niche-catered cable television.
November 18, 2022 - the G4 cable channel shuts down after spending a whole month on zombie autopilot mode.
Tumblr media
First, a bit of backstory: the era of niche-catered cable television was a wonderful time, channels for anything and everything filling cable platforms in the late 90s and throughout the 2000s. This was the peak of television, and if you had a maxed out cable package you were set.
One such channel that exceled in this wide open market was a channel based out of San Francisco called ZDTV, a channel focused solely on the growing tech and computer market, though it would change to a more recognizable name in 2000: TechTV.
Unfortunately, though, when you’re in a hypercompetitive niche cable market, you either have to stand out or you’ll fall behind. They inevitably fell behind with layoffs and programming cutbacks, though they did have three core staples to them: The Screen Savers, X-Play, and Anime Unleashed. But it was in the latter years of its singular life where it veered away from business tech talk and shifted toward a more general male audience who happened to also be into casual tech talk. This worked… for a short while.
Tumblr media
In May of 2004, TechTV merged operations with G4, a venture and channel helmed by Comcast in direct competition with TechTV, and relocated operations to Los Angeles as the very longwinded G4TechTV before becoming solely G4 in 2005. And those three staples remained, with one having a new name: The Screen Savers become Attack of the Show, X-Play remained X-Play, and Anime Unleashed also hung around for a short while longer.
By the mid-2000s, people who knew G4 knew what they were all about, with a strong lineup of in-house originals: Cheat!, Cinematech, Arena, G4 Icons, X-Play with Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb, Attack of the Show! now with Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn (later with Candace Bailey), live convention coverage from places like E3 and CES, this was a channel hitting their true stride. But the good times wouldn’t last long, as Comcast does what Comcast always does: cut back to save a few bucks.
Layoffs, schedule decreases, and drops in viewership were leading things into a bad spot, and by 2011 there were talks and rumors of the channel being sold to either the UFC or WWE to be their own channel. Then in 2012, Pereira and Sessler were let go by G4, with all original programming ceasing production by the end of the year. And that’s all on top with what Comcast had planned for its channel space: replace it with something else in 2013.
Tumblr media
Short version, that replacement never happened, it instead went to another Comcast-owned channel space, and G4 was essentially left on zombie autopilot mode while more and more cable providers cut the channel from their lineups. And on December 31, 2013, its final day of broadcast on whoever still had it in their cable package, it capped off its 11-year run with their Top 100 Video Games countdown retrospective and the 2003 “re-debut” episode of X-Play, before signing off with how the G4 channel launched in 2002: Pong.
And then it went away, left to remain in the vast mental vacuums of our collective nostalgia.
Then the word came out in July 2020 that this was going to come back. Cue up the nostalgia excitement.
Tumblr media
So how do you restart a 2000s-era cable channel in the 2020s, and in the middle of a global pandemic and health crisis? Very slowly.
It took nearly a year and a half for the relaunch, now helmed by Comcast Spectacor (the division of Comcast who owns several Philadelphia sports teams), to kick off, and while the initial fanfare was jovial the final product handled for the network was… lacking.
Keep in mind that when G4 was in its stride in the mid-2000s the internet was a much differnet place. There weren’t 24/7 HD quality live streams and 4K quality video on demand that can be pulled up on a moment’s notice, and instant communication was limited to specific messenger clients and text forums. YouTube and Facebook were only just mere ideas and Twitch was still many years away. So what do you do in a world that has all of that, and more?
You cross the streams. But that didn’t work, either.
Newer audiences may only know of G4 for its past and weren’t there during its heyday, so they wouldn’t be interested in what a linear television channel about gaming would have to offer. And older audiences who remember those old shows would be very much interested in those shows being revived, so long as the focus is on the linear channel - it wasn’t, as their primary audience was being catered to its YouTube and Twitch livestreams, a different audience altogether.
Therein lies the major issue: trying to cater to two completely differnet audiences who don’t cross over. And in contrast to how G4 originally adapted to new media in the 2000s with the growth of podcasts and the introduction of Twitter, this stream-crossing felt like a lack of singular focus when there could have been both.
And here’s where that works: X-Play and Attack of the Show would be returning, but in very differnet forms, first as livestreams and then being aired as glorified “highlight shows” in the days following on its linear television channel, alongside other previously-streamed programs that served to fit the gaming niche audience who, by 2021, mostly migrated away from television toward other internet platforms and personalities. Simply put, nobody is going to go to a television channel first to hear about e-sports drama or a “causal Friday” Twitch stream.
Also, I’m fairly certain nobody watching television wanted to be told by Kevin Pereira that “NFT art is great, you’re all too stupid to get it” but at least he got properly roasted for it almost immediately and THAT snafu was never mentioned ever again.
Then there was the novelty and oddity of Scott the Woz being shown on G4 in the form of ten hour-long compilation episodes of some of his videos, albeit not on the best foot forward as its 6:30pm debut broadcast was upended due to an Amazon Web Service glitch and instead aired at 10:30pm that night… with a few censor bleeps missing. Again, a novelty and oddity if there ever was.
Tumblr media
In terms of other programming on the channel, it was mostly filled with constant reruns of their first-run programs, while they did have a later G4 staple in Ninja Warrior back alongside Takeshi’s Castle and the 1980s Starcade to fulfill the needs for people watching the linear channel. One could surmise that those would be insufficient offerings, but at least there’s plenty of games coverage to be had, right?
Yeah, about that. The video game industry in 2022 is much, MUCH different than the video game industry was 15 years ago. The entire industry has been caught in a tech-crunch arms race and games riddled with constant delays, updates, and microtransactions, and coupled with the current state of E3 and Geoff Keighley’s presentations being less-than-stellar one could argue that the video game industry is in a low point at this current moment. There isn’t much excitement to be had across the board.
And then we come to the big problem with how G4 was relaunched: its main audience of 20-something males from the 2000s have moved on toward other channels and services, and a lot of those attitudes and its zeitgeist was left behind long ago. You couple all of those issues together, and you end up with a channel without any real identity.
If you’ve followed this thread this far and you know what happened with G4 in 2022, you’re wondering when I’ll mention THAT incident. So here it is.
No, Frosk did not singlehandedly kill G4 with her on-air rant. Anyone who honestly believes that one individual can tank a cable network like that is either a goddamn idiot or a sexist clown. Or maybe both, it’s certainly believable, given the reports of harassment and doxxing that happened which is NEVER okay.
Instead, Comcast does what Comcast does best: layoffs to save a buck or two. And, much like before, when coupled with record-low viewership (hovering within 1,000 average viewers per night), the writing, as they say, was on the wall. A lot of details come from an excellent writeup by Nathan Grayson of the Washington Post, digging far deeper than any of us would have ever guessed.
Tumblr media
Appearances and stream raids paid for with five figures, virtually invisible talent relations, constant production flux, and then the final straw last month: a memo leaked to Deadline outlining the channel’s sunsetting. Except said memo wasn’t sent to talent and crew, first. So they all found out at the same time we did. In an instant, all of the work and plans the talent and crew still had for the network was gone and ignited into ash. No more X-Play. No more Attack. No new Icons. And no new Starcade.
And for a month after that, the channel has been operating on zombie autopilot mode, somehow in far worse shape than its year-long zombified state in 2013. Until now, on November 18th of the year 2022, where after 367 days G4 has, once again, shut down. The fact of the matter is, in the year 2022 going on 2023, we don’t really need G4 on television. There is a plethora of off-air recordings all over the internet of its peak era for us to go back to watch and laugh with and even cringe at, but those come from a bygone era of television that, sadly, doesn’t exist anymore and won’t be coming back.
G4 2.0 tried - goddamn it, they somehow tried - but they just couldn’t find an audience or be given enough time and resources to correct its trajectory before the plug was pulled. It could have been something greater, but in the end, all G4 and Comcast can get for this is an honor truly worthy of its disastrous run:

C3E11 - liveblog
Oh I love that Sam bit, so earnest and adorable
Being honest, I expected this to immediately go into combat, so the fact that there was a little discussion at the beginning?  Genuinely surprising.
As soon as Chetney took off the beanie and the jacket, I think everyone knew what was coming.  The reveal was FANTASTIC though!  The sad thing is that in a home game this reveal would have worked very well because Travis never said ‘rogue’, just implied via his skill set.  However, since there are cards for each character, we were informed ‘rogue’ even though it was false.  It’s something where in a home game, it’s a surprise, in a live streamed game, it’s a lie.  *shrugs* To be fair, I’m not actually bothered by it, and there’s really nothing that they could have done because they couldn’t have left the class blank, but maybe that would be an option for if they do a fourth campaign, only fill in the classes when we see it in combat. I was also slightly expecting a multiclass reveal, so the straight bloodhunter was a surprise.
For anyone who has been reading my C2 rewatch reactions, you know that I was wondering how bloodhunter would actually work as we didn’t get to see too much of it, so this will answer my questions!  A different subclass, sure, but from what I can tell most subclasses still are very clearly the main class (rogue subclasses all still have the sneak attack and such, casting subclasses will still have the main spell lists, etc. etc.), so should get an interesting idea.
I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the furniture fighting.  Now they at least know where it’s coming from, but even though it can still attack and do significant damage, it just doesn’t have the same emotional impact as fighting a living creature.  The shade creepers provided more stress than the table and chairs.  I am hoping that this is early campaign only, I don’t know how I’d feel about the BBEG being a full dining room set. XD
WHY DOES IRA KNOW FEARNE.  Or at least “Calloway”!!!
Oooof, that was a kind DM move, had the fight gone on for real, I’m sure a TPK would be incoming, but good on Matt for finally being able to create a re-occurring villain!  Here’s hoping the party doesn’t kill him in like, three episodes XD
Hmmm...I just checked, and Chetney could transform as of level 3.  The reason I (and I think many) were suspecting multiclass is because then it could be 1 rogue and 3 bloodhunter, therefore why Travis came in late to the story.  But with being full on bloodhunter, I don’t get why Chetney wasn’t there from the start.
Claret Orders again. Is that where all bloodhunters come from?  I don’t recall if it was mentioned during C1, but that’s C2 and C3 set.
Man, C3 is really jumping hard into plot stuff waaaay faster than C2 did (though C2 was more shorter things connected with the PC growth being the main ‘story’).  Same with C1 even, because C1 didn’t really get going until Briarwoods for main plot connectedness.  But C3 seems like this could even be leading to eventual BBEG, and we’re only episode 11!
Reasons that I think this could be:
the cast and/or Matt wanted a more definite plot after C2
Matt really wants to make sure he has villains that last more than a handful of episodes or a single arc
maybe the cast wants to play to level 20 again?  They did start at 3.  Or at least maybe go higher than the C2 cast (which I would say capped at level 15, the level 16 was like half an episode) so maybe like to 17 or 18?
or maybe they are just tailoring it for a show versus a game, which is a valid thing to do, but also I’d feel mixed about it.  Well, I guess as long as they were still having fun, but I didn’t feel like too much of C2 ever felt like they forced it in a certain way due to an audience, and I really hope they don’t for C3 either.  The inclusion of Bell and the formatting of the first episode felt that way, but I’m hoping they just go for fun.
LOL Matt took their teasing about the bathhouse and ran with it.  And of course they spend a nice little character moment each in it, I adore it so much.
Ooooo, Liam plot! Tying into the same location as Ashton’s deal, more incentive to head there.  And going after the ball, so going in five days?  Should fit perfectly in with Jiana’s timeline.
IMOGEN PLOT.
I don’t mind The New Nobodies, but I’m also not super vibing with it.

Random Notes from a 4AM Re-Watch of the First Part of Reddy Weddy
1) I’m just gonna go ahead and admit here that sometimes I pause this episode as it starts, where there’s the close-up of Cap’s face, just to admire the color of Ben Willbond’s eyes. They’re. Just. So.
2) And I’ll try not to make this completely a thirst-post, but when the camera goes around his back, and his shoulder blades jut through the back of his uniform, good lord.
3) Also, I really enjoy watching the front row of his brief during the first scene. I wish I could screen-cap their pained faces, but I watch on a DVD on my TV, and when it pauses it sort of pixelates, so I can’t even get good shots with a secondary camera.
4) Is it just me, or are there like, at least three visible stretchers in the briefing room (one or two on the front table, one on the back table, and one propped up beside the door)? And if so, why? Is that like, some sort of hint at what they were doing there or is that when they went WWII-prop raiding in order to dress the set, they just came up with a whole lot of stretchers and just went with it. Or maybe that room was meant to be their casualty collection point in the unlikely event that Button House ever got bombed or invaded by the enemy?
5) The Captain’s hands and arms during the whole first scene (or at least after he stops standing at rest) are just so awkward. I bet he carries around his swagger stick because he’s one of those guys who just doesn’t know what to do with their hands.
6) For some reason, the way Havers says ‘I know we do vital work here, sir,’ suggests to me that perhaps they do not in fact do vital work there, and Havers is just saying that for Cap’s benefit. Anyone else see that?
7) Whenever they walk around Button House, I just get a really strong urge to get a bucket of soapy water and a sponge and wash the walls. Maybe it’s, like, a patina of age, rather than grime, but still, it kills me.
8) “There’s rough around the edges and then there’s a bombsite.” Ah, Martin, you have no idea.
9) I feel like they could easily put a wedding marquee in one of the pretty, already cleared sections of the grounds, rather than right outside the kitchen door. It’d take a little extra effort by the caterers to cart the food around, but Button House isn’t nearly big enough to make it unworkable or even overly difficult to manage. But still, I’ll suspend my disbelief because it’s the starting premise for 1/3 of what I enjoy about this episode.
10) I love the little foot motion Pat makes when he suggests Top Gun.
11) “Faradiddle, sir!”
12) I’m not sure which I like more, how pleased with himself Pat is about his little bit of French, or how impressed Robin looks.
13) Alison is adorable in her little working-in-the-garden outfit, with her red turtleneck and her plaid print...
14) “Let’s do this! Yes!” I appreciate Mike’s initial enthusiasm.
15) I feel like Fanny’s necklace might be a locket, maybe? Yes? If it is, I wonder what’s inside it?
16) That little note of fear on Cap’s face (and in the score, a literal note) before he says, “Which garden?” yo.
