I feel like we don’t talk enough about the fireflies in Rayman 1. They were cooking damn good with that design.
I imagine they’re like Tinkerbell and can glow different colors depending on their mood
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Due to their luminescence, spindly limbs, and jovial nature, Fireflies are often thought to be related to Lums. To tell you the truth, they're actually distant Valley cousins of the Ludivs! With a much higher well-sighted population than their Gladeish counterparts, these pretty little fairies are often assigned as guides through dark regions, including the Caves of Skops.

I also had the headcanon that the Nymphs are more of the Muse’s creations. They were all created in her image based off her preferences and beauty standards. The Creation of the Glade was meant to be collaborative and a symbol of their “eternal” love.
Polokus proposed that they should mix their powers together to create an entirely new species of their own and when they dreamed together the Teensies were created. Polokus was elated at the way they turned out but the Muse was baffled as to how they looked.
So when she disappeared a despondent Polokus had to pick up the slack and create the rest of the fairies initially trying to replicate her style but his which is how fairies like Ly exists with some of his joyful silly nature bleeding through. Eventually he gave up on that and just went back to his sillier more surreal designs which is why you have the Ludivs and Greenbottles
Ohhh I like that headcanon, especially if the Muse was a typical hour glass babe it'd make total sense for how Betilla and her sisters look in Origins
Personally I'm... not entirely sure on my own version of the muse? Originally I had the idea that there was a total of four muses (matching the number of masks lol) with the Muse of Poets being a butterfly lady (as the Teensies look like ants to me), the Muse of Musicians as a Bird lady, the Muse of Painters as an Octopus Lady and the Muse of Theatrics being a goat guy but I wanna revamp that concept now. I'd keep the muse as a butterfly but everything else I don't like anymore
I'm not even sure if the Muse of Poets would be born before or after the nymphs
Tumblr media
I'll figure it out as I explore my own take on Rayman's lore
Side note, according to the raywiki the Rayman M game showed that the solar system that the Glade exists in has a desert planet alongside a blue planet with a ring around it (similar to Saturn). Considering the Glade has no notable ring in the sky and that it's got more environmental diversity than a desert, it's safe to safe neither planet is the Glade itself. Meaning Rayman's solar system has at least three planets alongside it's two suns and two moons (presumably one of those moons isn't also a planet). Maybe that's where gods such a Leptys is at?

Rayman Head Canons: Languages
The Rayman universe is full of various languages. Not just the ones known to us humans, but there are some that are unique to Rayman's world.
Pig-Latin in the Rayman universe is an official language. It’s not called “Pig Latin.” It's called by a few names such as “Fay-speak” “Fay Latin” or in the formal matter “the language of the Fairies.”
Fay Latin is considered the main language of most races that are heavily tied to magic. Ludivs, Fairies, nymphs, and teensies all fit into this being the “Native” language for these species/races. The Muse of Poets was the original speaker of this language, who passed it onto fairies and teensies before her disappearance.
Other races do know the language, but its not the native tongue for them and they learned it from other sources. Examples of those that speak it but had to learn it are:
Polokus (he learned from the Muse of Poets, who was his wife before she disappeared.)
Murfy (The most fluent. Had to learn due to his work in the council.)
Rayman (Struggles a bit and is prone to messing up.)
and Raymona (She took classes for it at the academy.)
Globox and Uglette don't speak Fay Latin but do understand it.
Polokus also speaks in "Bubble Speak," which is a language that only he speaks, but is understood by all. It's said to be the root dialect of Rayman's world, but there's no evidence to back that up. Asking Polokus about this will not get you a straight answer.
Creatures of nightmare origin have their own language. It has no official name but is referred to as "Nightmarish." It is the language spoken by Jano, and Mr. Dark can both speak and understand the language. Raymesis can understand nightmarish, but is still learning how to speak it fluently. He will often act as translator for Mr. Dark's allies.

Sorry for the slow week,
Tried drawing comics featuring different parts of the story
:How Rayman and Globox met in the city
:And how Rayly came to be
But all I got in those are these sketches.
Hopefully in the future I’ll be able to get some parts of the story in proper layout.
(By the way that is a Ludiv, not Tilly at the desk)

Sorry I had to do this as soon as I knew that Ludivs often fell for the pranks made by the Greenbottles (and that they tend to make jokes too)-

Been a little since I’ve post something, eh, here I have my redesign for the Ludivs for my project Rayman Chronicles, they hang around at the Fairy Council and you can even talk to them. Sometimes they’ll be accompanied by the small sprites like in Rayman 3

Oh I do enjoy making these :D  A comment on DA said that Flips should be the next Rayman TV series character I should draw, so here she is!
Cute little squeakfairy/bug
.....seriously I assumed she was like the Ludiv fairies from Rayman 3 because they have similar outfits, BUT SHE HAS AN ANTENNAE, so she’s a bug-type fairy like Murphy?!

Hours later after making my post about the rayman 3 hoodlum havoc concept piece where it showed rayman having fingernails and I commented on possibly depicting him with them in my projects... i thought long and hard about it....
Yeah. i’m not gunna lie. i agree that rayman with fingernails is a bit unsettling honestly. Thinking about it more; its probably why he can constantly punch things to oblivion. he doesn’t have to worry about the pain of busted up nails.
However, i have something else that can work with when i mentioned rayman would have his nails painted especially by globox’s daughters.
Fake nails. the end result is also pretty comical.
Uglette: Rayman, are you sure you are ready for this dear?
Rayman: *nods a little, has his hands extended towards uglette. the fake nails on display.* As ready as i’ll ever be...
Uglette: alright dear. on the count of three. One. two. THREE
*Uglette begins ripping off the fake nails one by one. rayman giving a scream so loud its heard for miles*
*at the fairy council, the screams are heard and the ludivs all freeze in confusion*
Murfy: and this is why you don’t superglue nails onto your hand. *mutters and opens up the manual to read* hundred years and still a fricken moron.

Smells Like Teen Smitten
The Grand Minimus falls head over heels for Cookie. Everyone is either oblivious or bewildered.
Rayman was being welcomed back from his travels far away from the Glade of Dreams. The Grand Minimus recalled the reasoning behind these travels; Rayman told him he overheard something about outsiders trying to catch and sell creatures from the Glade, then became concerned when he noticed a circus tent flying in the sky a week later. Minimus recalled he and Ly watching Rayman off after he decided to go scouting, then watching the sky every night for that floating circus tent.
Now, Minimus was pushing passed the other teensies and the many children of Globox – who may or may not have been crying – to get a look at Rayman and the cast of unfamiliar people he’d brought home with him. As far as Minimus could hear from the chatter in the crowd, not one of these characters were originally from the Glade of Dreams, except perhaps this little fairy that resembled their own ludiv fairies. Only after being able to place himself at the front of the crowd, where Globox held Rayman up in a tight hug, was Minimus able to catch a glimpse of any of the new folk. One of them was of a species he’d never seen before: a tall, lanky, blue hare-like creature with long, purple, ribbon-like ears and purple spots of a darker shade. Well, “tall” might be an understatement; this lagomorph might as well have been a giant compared to Minimus. One of the nymphs took the lagomorph’s hand before he could notice and started to shake it. The lagomorph stared blankly at his arm wobbling before noticing the nymph that was shaking his hand. Likely just realizing that this was a friendly greeting, the lagomorph started to shake the nymph’s hand back and give her a more broad and cheerful smile than Minimus could ever imagine.
Interesting, Minimus thought as he started to scan this bunched-together batch of new people that were now being overwhelmed by fascinated fairies and excited glute children. There was a figure next to the lagomorph, another species Minimus didn’t recognize. There was something eye-catching about this one, something that made Minimus’s heart start to flutter. He was tall, somewhat heavyset, and with animal-like features. He looked absolutely huggable, his large, brown eyes and colorful hair making him seem all the more… cute. Cute and… attractive? Was Minimus really thinking this about a man he hadn’t really met yet? Well, the fact that this man wasn’t wearing any shirt under his green overalls didn’t really help.
Just as Minimus had locked his attention on this chubby figure, Rayman was finally dropped from Globox’s arms and placed himself right in front of the teensy king. Minimus was forced out of his daze with his vision of the handsome man blocked and his eyes met with Rayman’s. Minimus’s face flushed up pink, as though expecting that Rayman could see right through him. Really, Rayman was none the wiser.
“Hiya, Mini!” Rayman pulled Minimus into what looked to be a very awkward hug, considering Rayman had only floating hands and Minimus’s arms hung limply at his sides rather than hugging Rayman back. “Gosh, it’s great to be back! You wouldn’t believe what kept me; we had to hide in this huge city from a cop that wanted to take us back to the circus. This guy, Rigatoni, held everyone captive for his show, so I busted them out and laid low with them for a while…”
Rayman continued talking, telling the story Minimus probably wanted to hear before this… what was he? A mole? A weasel? A dog? Whatever; before this man stole his attention. Now Minimus only wanted to know about him. Not that he didn’t care about Rayman anymore. Oh, Heavens no! He cared a great deal of what Rayman’s been through. Therefore, he reasoned with himself that he had to push his newfound feelings for this mysterious furry… cuddly, beautiful… this new man aside.
“I’m happy you’re home safely, Rayman,” Minimus suddenly interrupted, too lost in his own thoughts to have even noticed that Rayman was still talking. “Ly and I were so worried about you, to say nothing of how Globox and Uglette cried for you! You could’ve at least sent a letter-attached lum.”
Minimus pouted, putting his hands to his hips while Rayman sheepishly rubbed the back of his head.
“Geez, I’m sorry, Mini! But I was so busy keeping this lot under control, you know?” Rayman pointed behind himself while giving a smirk. “These guys could’ve gotten in a lot of trouble. They don’t exactly blend in to a city environment.”
“Oh, taking all the credit, huh?” A young woman – resembling a nymph but her lack of wings made Minimus note that she couldn’t have been – with bright red hair that seemed twice Rayman’s height placed herself next to Rayman and leaned her elbow on his head, giving him a smug smirk to rival his. Her half-lidded gaze turned from Rayman to Minimus. “This guy sure likes to play hero, huh? Most of the time, I was trying to keep him out of trouble.”
“Hey, Betina!” There was laughter in Rayman’s voice as he squirmed out from under her elbow, the two chuckling as though they were life-long siblings. “Don’t you think that’s a little bit of an exaggeration?”
           “As if!”
Minimus gave this girl an awkward nod while he watched patiently as she and Rayman had their playful banter. He folded his hands together and cleared his throat when he assumed they were done, hoping to win the girl’s attention back over.
“So, erm, Betina, is it? It’s my pleasure to meet you!” Minimus held a hand out for Betina to shake, which she tried to as gently as possible considering how much bigger she was than him. “You must’ve travelled far! And our Rayman brought it upon himself to give you a home here?”
“It’s a long story; basically, now that there’s no mustached creep to hide from anymore and we’re cool with the cop he had chasing us, we’ve decided that we don’t need to hide in a cramped apartment anymore,” Betina explained. “Although, I kind of liked the city! I wouldn’t mind going back once everyone here is situated. Some of our friends… well, weren’t too keen on sticking around there.”
Minimus noticed Betina’s eyes shift to behind her, where stood that lagomorph and the chubby figure he’d been eying. Minimus thought it maybe a good opportunity to ask her about those two and learn more his... his – well let’s face it – object of admiration. However, a very small figure resembling one of the Glade’s own ludiv fairies fluttered down toward Betina, giving little squeaks. Betina gave the fairy an acknowledging nod.
“This is Flips; she’s the other reason why I didn’t stay in the city,” Betina explained, gesturing toward the fairy. “Rayman told us a lot of fairies like her live here, so I thought Flips might want to see for herself.”
The fairy, Flips, gave a squeak and nodded. She fluttered further down to meet Minimus’s gaze, smiling.
“I’ll stay here if she’d rather be with people like her,” Betina continued. “We belong together.”
To this, Flips nodded in agreement.
“Well, however long you plan to stay, welcome, Betina. Flips.” Minimus gave a brief bow toward the two, which Rayman jokingly mimicked. “I’m the king of the teensies. You might guess what those are. There’s a few of us kings, actually, but you may call me the Grand Minimus.”
“He also answers to just ‘Mini’,” added Rayman.
“Well, yes.” Minimus straightened his posture, folding his hands behind his back. “So, I feel as though I should be properly acquainted with our other two guests, Rayman. Might they have any time to spare?”
“Lacmac looks like he could take all the attention this place will give him,” Betina chuckled. “Cookie, not so much.”
Minimus looked over behind Rayman and Betina to see the blue lagomorph now happily shaking the hands of everyone that approached him, which left some teensies dizzy considering how easily they must’ve been lifted off the ground. The chubby figure he’d been eying, on the other hand, was visibly tired, likely trying to rush every encounter to its end so he might recharge himself. These observations were quick, however, because Rayman had taken Minimus by the wrist and pulled him further into the crowd so that he could come face to face with the object of his admiration.
“Holding up alright, Cookie?” Rayman asked, quickly getting the chubby figure’s attention.
“Oh, no offense Rayman, but having to talk to so many people at once is really wearing me out. It’s so overwh-” The man Minimus had been admiring, Cookie, laid eyes on Minimus’s crown as he turned to face Rayman and Minimus, suddenly looking incredibly alarmed. “Oh! Your Majesty!”
Minimus stiffened up as he watched this man that made his heart pound suddenly kneel to him, causing his face to flush up again.
“Oh, no, no!” Minimus waved his hands in front of himself, nervously smiling. “No need for that. I may be royalty, but I’m also your friend! I don’t want anyone to feel they have to, uh… stifle themselves around me!”
“Oh,” Cookie picked himself up, then brushed off the knee his was kneeling on. He looked down at Minimus with his face lit up a light pink and a sloppy smile he was trying to clean up. “So, uh… Rayman, you didn’t tell me there was royalty here.”
“A little bit,” Rayman replied. “The teensies are a culture all their own! They’re very close to all of the Glade, and they help keep it protected.”
“Well, it does help that we have eyes and noses everywhere.” Minimus was laughing nervously, looking up at Cookie with more interest than he could hide. “So, Cookie… Erm, why don’t you tell me about yourself? It’s only polite I get to know our newest residents.”
“Oh? Well, let’s see. I consider myself a mechanic,” he began, putting his fingers on his chin. “Becoming a mechanic gave me the skills I use to dabble in inventing from time to time. But, uh… Our recent ventures slowed a lot of that down.”
“Really?” Minimus’s eyes lit up. “You can invent? You don’t meet anyone that could claim that so casually that often. Why, uh… we don’t really have any technology in the Glade, so whenever I do see it, I just find it so fascinating!”
Minimus was even more enamored with this man than he was before, which he wasn’t very good at hiding by how pink his face was and how excitedly he proclaimed how impressed he was. It didn’t seem Cookie could see through the cracks just yet; he was more focused on taking this opportunity to show off.
“No one really asks about the things I make,” Cookie said, taking what looked to be an ordinary folded pocket knife out of his pocket. Minimus noticed that the weariness seemed to leave his face, as he was smiling unlike how he smiled at everyone else before. “Wait until you see this! It’s my electronic automatic bread slicer, an update on an older invention of mine.”
Cookie pressed a button to get the knife to unfold, revealing two connected blades. There was a smaller button he pressed, which caused the two blades to rotate against each other. Minimus’s eyes widened as he watched the blades carefully and curiously.
“That’s so incredible… You made that yourself? Like, you even figured out how to make it move?”
“Yep! It started out just as a perfectly-sharpened knife, then I thought to add a mechanism that’d make it come down on a loaf of bread without assistance. Then I thought adding another blade and making them rotate instead would be more effective. …Uh, you know, kind of like a chainsaw.”
           “That’s great! …What’s a chainsaw?”
Technology was usually an evil force used against the Glade of Dreams, such as when the pirates invaded some time ago. It was utilized by unknown, scary forces outside their large, elaborate, but safe world of magic that used big words such as “industry” and “profit”. That’s why Minimus was so intrigued by one good person that not only understood it inside and out, but could make his own technology. And Minimus knew this man was good; he considered himself an excellent judge of character!
Cookie had caught Minimus in one of his long rambles about how he gets his ideas and about the other useful things he’s made that he, sadly, couldn’t show at the moment. He even explained his periscope he’d made from scraps in that small apartment he and the others hid in that kept them out of the way of the cop that was looking for them. Minimus, much to Betina and Rayman’s surprise, didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he had been enjoying listening to the spiel.
“I plan on building myself a workshop out here, with a little hut attached that Lacmac and I would be comfortable living in, i-if that’s alright by you,” Cookie explained. “It looks like you’re the head of things around here I’d have to consult about matters like that.”
“Oh, many people in the Glade have houses! Us royal teensies even live in a small castle, guarding the Heart of the World. So, that’s fine,” Minimus replied. “I’ll show you around if you’d like to figure out where in the Glade you’d rather live. There’s plenty of clearings or little hovels in the woods that are suitable for building little homes.”
“Rayman told me it was much less busy and much easier to, y’know, stay out of people’s way here than… in the city.” Cookie seemed to grimace at the thought of the city for a moment. What a scary place that must’ve been, Minimus thought. “I’d just like to be somewhere quiet.”
“Well, of course! I-I’ll keep that in mind for when I get to recommend you places to live. We should… figure out when we’re going to do that.” Minimus poked two of his pointer fingers together, his face getting ever so slightly more pink. “I-if you want, while the lot of you are trying to figure out where to live, you could stay in our castle for a few nights.”
Just as Cookie had paused to think the rather generous offer over, Betina fell into a sudden bellowing fit of laughter. This stole Cookie and Minimus’s attention away from each other as they looked at Betina now holding her stomach, laughing so terribly hard that her face had turned red. Right away, Minimus could tell by the way Betina was looking at him, tearing up, that she knew.
“What’s so funny, Betina?” Cookie asked, raising a brow. He rolled his eyes as he walked toward her, setting a hand to his hip like this was just exactly the kind of behavior he expected from her. “Honestly! I was just having a nice conversation, and you…”
Minimus watched, flustered and almost enraged. How could that know-it-all find his affections funny? Minimus turned away with his arms crossed whilst Cookie reprimanded a still-laughing Betina, who insisted she had nothing to admit to Cookie. Then, out of Minimus’s line of sight, the blue lagomorph that had been busy with hand-shaking took a break to reach down and give Minimus a comforting pat on the back. However, due to what seemed to be incredible and uncurbed strength from the lagomorph and their great difference in size, the creature ended up accidentally knocking Minimus down, onto his big, honkable nose. Rayman skipped over to help Minimus up.
           “You never met Lacmac!”
