My friend who doesn't really use her Tumblr anymore has been making Ray-Ban posts today. I would recommend changing your passwords or whatever it was we did to inoculate ourselves against this last time.

Hey, heads up tumblr peeps. There's a new scam going around in messages. I cannot tell if these hijack tumblr blogs yet. The ones I got look almost certainly like throwaway bot accounts. But just a reminder to not click links sent to you, especially from accounts you don't recognize.

trust me, you aren’t alone. b//frd literally is just everywhere for some reason and feels extremely inescapable. Its honestly insane. I try my best to avoid it but I still see that type of content all the time now, it feels like. :/

it really is impossible to avoid. its like the most random people on my dash will suddenly start posting a bunch of it too like i had an aesthetic blog i followed for years that i dont think ive ever seen post gravity falls suddenly start posting a bunch of billfprd like what are you doing. who are you right now. kind of feels like the rayban scam thing but with a ship i hate

If you're new to Tumblr, remember that if you don't do something to your blog to indicate there's a real person behind it--change the icon or add a description or make a post saying "Hi, I'm real"--then long-time Tumblr users will block and report you as spam when you follow them, because we have been invaded by otherwise innocuous-looking blank blog bots in the past. Some of the bot invasions were actively malicious, but a lot of them simply use the metrics of "following genuine people" to game SEO to drive traffic to malicious sites.

We don't block and report blank accounts out of anything like snobbery against newbies, we block and report blank accounts because we remember having to tell our mutuals "Hey, looks like your account has been hacked by the RayBans scam bots" (or,even worse, "Oh no, my account has been hacked by the RayBans scam bots")

one of my favorite artists got hacked by a skin care scam so idk, be extra suspicious of links and out of the blue messages for the time being. I'm guessing it's working similar to how the raybans virus worked back when that was an issue.
