Summary:

Buck finally comes back to work after the lightning strike. The 118 responds to a call inside a rowdy gay club. Buck 1.0 beta version (he's bisexual now) works distraction. Eddie Diaz does not panic, but he does get jealous. Eddie visits Buck after shift with an interesting proposition.

Longer Chapter Snippet:

“Alright! You heard the man, show’s over!” Eddie’s voice growls from the crowd, as he makes way a bit too forcefully through the people.  “Please, the adults are working.”

“You can both work on me, if you’d like!” Someone catcalls.

The crowd laughs. Buck laughs. Somewhere leaving the club, Hen cackles. Eddie does not. In fact, Eddie is pissed — no, not just pissed. Jealous. Face scrunched into folds, red round cheeks under the glittering lights, lips pulled up like a dog about to show their teeth, eyes darting around the crowd to throw them ugly looks, and Buck almost has the mind to say down, boy. Instead of doing that and irrevocably altering the dynamic of two that night, Buck hunches his shoulders and tries to quiet down.

Unceremoniously, Eddie grabs at Buck’s forearm hard and jerks him in the direction of the doors. Buck goes without protest, as the tips of people’s fingers touch him, as some party-goers stash napkins with numbers and social media handles inside his pockets. Someone somehow gets a dollar bill tucked in his shirt sleeve, a few others under his suspenders.

The thing is. Eddie is also a deeply attractive man. So, his help is semi-paradoxical. He gets them to move across the floor. But his visage also gets people hellishly excited. He keeps being rude, a bit more verbally rough than he usually is, physically just short of forceful enough to maybe hurt anyone, but still uncharacteristically pushy. Buck’s mind keeps rushing to catalogue all of those memories in his special brain box for later.

Finally, they leave the club just as the music comes back on. Eddie mumbles something. Buck doesn’t catch all of it, but the end sounds just like unbelievable, as he finally suddenly lets go of Buck’s arm and shakes his head in utmost disbelief. Buck continues to smile wide and bright, as his arm throbs and aches for the skin contact again, a little less 1.0 this time around. Buck 1.0 didn’t know he was unhappy, and this version of Buck, now, is everything but.

Hen and Chim have disappeared inside RA units, and Eddie goes to climb into one of the extra units just arriving at the scene. Buck doesn’t even think he really needs to, but well, he is doing it.

Buck takes the dollar bill that is tucked underneath his rolled up sleeve. “Hey look, Eddie! Coffee’s on me tonight, man!” Buck calls out, smile still huge.

Eddie glares at him, face turned into a barely-contained scowl and twisted mouth, before Ortiz closes the ambulance doors.

This should, by all means, not be so deeply thrilling. This should, by all means, not entice something so primal inside Buck. He bites his tongue.

Causing a reaction like that to Eddie. A reaction like that to someone as centered, as strikingly beautiful, as severely controlled. Even if Buck wasn’t adopting 1.0 mentality right now (this is what he will be futurely blaming all of this on), the knowing of this even being a possible reaction he can elicit under the right circumstances digs under his skin and sets his blood on fire.

For the first time in a while now, things don’t feel complicated between Buck and Eddie. He would hate to reach over invisible lines and tilt the thing around again. But this feeling in his chest is another type of complicated altogether. Eddie knows how Buck feels about him, now. Buck knows Eddie feels something back. For the most, they could forget about this all until came time to revisit those feelings. But the tension of possibility sparks in the air around Buck. Makes him think it’s quite possible that lightning could strike twice.

When asked to describe their first kiss in the future, Eddie would use the word soft. It was all so soft. In a way Eddie didn’t know Buck could be. Not after all he’d heard about Buck 1.0, not after knowing about the bar bathrooms, not after seeing the way he’d squeeze Taylor’s waist while dancing, not after seeing the marks he’d leave just below her neck, where the skin could be hidden from the news.

Their first kiss was the gust of the beach wind against wet skin after Chris’s surfing lessons. Their first kiss was the streak of sunlight that came through Eddie’s windows in the sunny LA mornings, warm upon his ribs. Their first kiss was almost like a prayer, if they could be any holier. 

After what seems like way too long and not nearly long enough, Buck separates himself. Eddie opens his eyes to a curious face, deep blue gaze studying his reaction, pink lips being bitten in nervousness, maybe anticipation, the same color as his birthmark, the same color as his shirt, the same color as the ocean of roses Eddie once dreamed of swimming on.

“Was that okay?” Buck asks, one more whisper, still holding onto Eddie’s neck.

Eddie isn’t sure he could articulate many words if he tried to, but something wild and unholy inside him snaps. He says, “No.”

There is a single second of confusion and hurt that flashes into Buck’s eyes. And then, this being born out of desire and longing and want want want inside Eddie growls, “More.”

Eddie pounces on Buck.

There’s no other word for it. One of Eddie’s hands grabs onto Buck’s nape and pulls him into Eddie’s mouth again, the other hand pulling at his shirt, Eddie’s entire body slamming against him, breath lost and thoughts gone. There is no chastity or holiness to their second kiss.

Their second kiss is teeth clashing against teeth. Their second kiss is Eddie pushing Buck until his hips hit the kitchen balcony with a loud thud, his back crashing onto the cabinets, the sound of plates vibrating loudly announcing the disturbance. Their second kiss is desperate clawing at any piece of skin, grabbing at hair, Buck moaning into Eddie’s mouth, the rough scratch of stubble. Their second kiss is sucking Buck’s meaty lower lip exactly like Eddie imagined doing many times before, licking into Buck’s mouth with unimaginable ease, tongues clashing against each other like they knew their place was right over there all along. Their second kiss is Buck crushing Eddie’s waist into a bear hug, strong forearms straining and warm, closer and closer and closer, no possible space between them, and Eddie slotting his thigh between Buck’s legs, and their entire bodies pressing together all at once, like there is not enough skin in the world for them to touch, like there is way too much skin to be left untouched.

Eddie can feel all the blood that should run his brain rush to his crotch. Against his hip, he can feel Buck grow under his pants, arms still crushing Eddie.

It’s new. It’s all new.
