Okay I think I figured out how I want to draw him from now on-

They'll kiss eventually for now they're a second away from beating the shit out of each other

So without spoiling the meat and potatoes of Saffron's childhood, let's just say it was so bad that he leapt through time itself to escape. And he ain't going back. Which is how he found himself living on Earth, alone, keeping a distance from Goku and his friends. It's not that he dislikes them, he's just convinced Goku and friends would dislike him if they ever learned the truth about his past.

As far as his knowledge about other Saiyans goes, he barely knows anything. He knows they're ape aliens. That's basically it.

This leads us to the start of DBZ. When all hell broke loose.

The day a space pod came careening down from the sky was the day Saffron knew things were going to get exciting again. Sure, he tried to ignore it. He tried to tell himself he had something good going on, living in seclusion without fighting anyone. But curiosity eventually got the better of him, so he caved and went to investigate the space pod. Which is when he came across an active hostage situation.

Now, Saffron had no idea what was going on. He didn't know who Goku was, or that Gohan was his kidnapped son, or that the green dude was another alien named Piccolo. By the time he got there, something incredibly off-script had happened. Raditz had killed his brother, ready to finish the job just as another Saiyan showed up.

Thankfully, by confronting Raditz himself, Saffron gave Gohan and Piccolo their chance to get out of there. He and Raditz promptly proceeded to beat the shit out of each other.

To be fair, not exactly the flashiest DBZ fight. Saffron managed to overpower Raditz by getting a grip on his tail, knocking him out cold and taking him back to his hideout. And that's how they met!

Love how my first reaction to getting a rat king tattoo was drawing Janson. 10/10 fun experience. This is also for all the people asking me to draw him sitting like this?

Ive been thinking about splinter lately and how much rise was a genius for how they handled his character. Ive never attempted to draw him, so why not try out this study technique at the same time? Bascially you try to replicate a screenshot, than overlay the screenshot with your drawing, trace what you got wrong, create a new sketch, rinse and repeat. I highly recommend this way of learning to draw a character if you wish to style match. Ive already subtly picked up so much on how splinters shapes work just by these sketches alone. And its interesting seeing my first and last drawing. I naturally wanted to make his head more circle and the facial features more big, but after sketching and checking, splinter has a wider face and his eyes, mouth, and nose are much much smaller in comparison.

Here’s a quick 3 min sketch of splinter i drew from memory using only what i remember learning above. Already loads better from the first drawing i tried to replicate when i had a reference right in front of me.
