Ship Colour Scheme Showdown

This was inspired by a previously announced tournament by a blog that was unfortunately deactivated before the tournament started. So I shamelessly stole their idea. Submit your ship and the colour associated with each character, and people will judge which ship colour scheme they like best, with the ship itself being kept secret.

Info:

Only one colour per character.

Ships with more than two characters are allowed.

OCs are allowed if you can provide proof that they are yours (e.g. send an ask confirming your submission) or that the creator allows them to be used in tournaments.

Characters from non-visual media such as books are allowed if they are canonically or widely associated with a colour (please provide some proof of this).

Colours must be submitted as hex codes. If the character is from a visual media source, this should ideally be colour picked directly from an image of them. If they aren't and are only associated with a colour name, pick the hex code for whatever shade you like, but don't just write e.g. "red".

I hope this goes without saying but no pedophilic ships.

No living people, including roleplay characters as in MCYT. Fictionalized versions of historical people are acceptable.

I won't be accepting ships from Harry Potter. I may choose not to allow other fandoms or specific ships as well—probably I will update this if so to let you know which ones.

Hello everyone! I have not seen a Scott Smajor Ship Bracket, so I am creating one. Obviously, this is characters not creators and this is for fun/entertainment, so please keep this lighthearted! Rarepair Tournament V.2!

Hello, hello! Welcome back one and all, because I am opening up submissions for the second MCYT Rarepair tournament!

Just to get a few things out of the way:

What is a rarepair by your definition?

In this bracket, a rarepair is a pair that is not very popular by any sort of imagination. When you send me a pairing, I will check Tumblr, Ao3, and a few other places to see what is there. If I deem it rare enough, I will let it into the brackets!

2. What do you do that determines a rarepair?

First, I look at fandom size, mainly on Ao3. The size of a fandom determines a LOT. For example, if a fandom has 600,000 works and your pairing has 40-50, that's rare enough! If a fandom has 700 works, however, and your pair has 40-50, it's probably pretty popular in that fandom, and thus won't count.

3. What if my pairing has no content?

Well, first, I'm so sorry. I've been there. Second, it counts! Your pair is probably VERY rare, lol. The MCYT fandom doesn't place a lot of stock in romantic pairings, so it's not uncommon for a rarepair to have zero works.

4. How long will submissions and polls last?

Dunno! The submission part, at least. It all depends on how much attention this tournament gets, y'know? Might take some time. Polls, however, will last a week. I might adjust it if some people need more time if they want to make propaganda.

5. What fandoms in the MCYT community are you taking from?

All of them! I do not discriminate by fandoms, though I can't promise I'll know your guys. Even stuff that was discontinued or unfinished, like TFTSMP, will be accepted.

Also, I’m putting in a new disclaimer for this tournament: I will be cutting down on the number of pairings that are solely Hermitcrafters or Lifers. While I love them too, MCYT is a broad scope of many SMPs, and I want to give them a chance to shine as well. I think a lot of people have forgotten that more Block People exist outside of Hermitcraft. That is not to say no Hermitcraft or Lifers will be accepted, just very little. And again, the main thing I’m cutting down on are Hermit x Hermit and Lifer x Lifer ships. If you want to cross-ship that’s totally fine, I’m just putting it out there that I’m going to make sure that there is more variety in these polls, since it’s obvious how hermitcraft-skewed a lot of them are.

Thinking about running a best character, best ship, or best quote bracket. Here's how each would hypothetically work (and vote in the poll at the bottom, please!):

The issue with characters would be that I’d have to go through all eighteen and a half books to find all the characters, or the other option is I only take characters that get submitted by the seven of us chilling here together in this hot tub (because like for Conor against Tepin, who the hell’s gonna vote for Tepin, right?). I would also allow you to submit propaganda to get your fav as far as possible and anti-paganda if you want a certain character to lose (as long as you keep it light-hearted and don't try to bash anyone that actually votes for that character etc. etc. etc.).

For ships, I will definitely only take submitted ships, because there are an infinite amount of ships that could happen otherwise. But I'll take anything no matter how crackship-y or rarepair-y it is (within limits, obviously no pedo/incest ships). Tentatively saying I will again allow propaganda and (light-hearted) anti-paganda, since I'm hoping we as a fandom are mature enough to let this be a chill experience and not devolve into ship bashing (I'm pretty sure we are, we're not the a/t/l/a fandom, so).

And for quotes, again, I'd only make a bracket out of quotes that get submitted. I'm not sure if I will allow propaganda for this one, because it seems kind of self-explanatory. But maybe, if people want it. If you submit a quote, you'd have to be able to tell me which book it was from, the page or chapter number, and who said it for it to be allowed into the bracket, although if you're not sure of one of those things, you could just tell me and I'd try to find it (I own all the books, so it wouldn't be a problem). I may or may not allow you to submit context or background for the quote (in some cases that can ruin the quote, or give it an unfair advantage). Quotes would be allowed to be as unserious or serious as you want, there will be no restrictions on it whatsoever (just don't make your quote, like, a single word or something).

In any case, you’d be allowed to submit as many characters/ships/quotes as you want. I would not reveal who submitted what character/ship/quote if that's something you choose to reveal to me, unless you want me to. I’m not sure how submissions will work, either through my ask box (don't worry, anon asks would be on) or through an anonymous Google form. Of course, my DMs are always open, too, if you want to submit something through there.

Your propaganda would be allowed to be anonymous or not (if you want the credit). It would also be allowed to be as short or as long as you want, and as unserious or serious as you want (you could literally submit, like, "Vote for Rollan, he's so funny and he needs a hug" as propaganda and I would accept it, or you can go deep and start talking about his parallels and arc and motifs and backstory and personality and hardcore analysis stuff, and that would also be fine). If multiple people submit propaganda for the same character/ship/quote, I’ll keep them all, and you are allowed to submit propaganda or anti-propaganda for as many characters/ships/quotes as you would like. When we're approaching the start of the bracket, I'll also say how many pieces of propaganda and anti-poganda were submitted for each character/ship/quote. That way, if a character/ship/quote has no propaganda or anti-paganda, it would be giving everyone a warning that that's the case and that it's the last chance to submit for them. Your propaganda also doesn't have to have any basis in canon. You could make up headcanons about a character and submit them as propaganda and that would be entirely fair game. You would not be allowed to submit links to analysis posts as propaganda, though, even if it's yours. Everything submitted needs to be something you wrote specifically for the bracket.

I would be the judge of whether the anti-propaganda crosses the line into bashing (no hard feelings, sometimes tone can be weird over text), and if it does I'd delete it but let whoever submitted it know that I did, so that they could try to submit something milder. Also, keep in mind that propaganda is subjective. Something you submit as anti-propaganda might actually resonate as propaganda with other people (like saying "Meilin was a racist and a classist" as anti-propaganda might just register as "Oh, she had such fantastic character development!" with some people, completely ruining what you were trying to do). Seems counterproductive, but if you have mixed feelings, I'd allow you to submit propaganda and anti-propaganda for the same character/ship/quote (I don't think anyone will actually do this, but it's an option).

We're all haters here, let's be real. Now I've seen a lot of tournaments and brackets on this website, and I figured I wanted to do my own. Now originally I was planning on making a favorite ship poll but you know what? It's been done. So after I on a whim on my main Danganronpa blog made a ship hate poll that got over FIVE HUNDRED votes in 24 hours I saw we all crave to be haters at the end of the day.

So that's why I'm running this tournament, to find out what ship in the Danganronpa fandom causes the MOST DESPAIR.

Now to help trip down the obvious rage bait ships and because there's 2 million ships, I'm running a survey for you to put down the ships you think deserve to be here so only the ships people already have some ire towards get put in. Though don't be afraid to show your hated rarepair, do you think Komaru/Kokichi is the worst ship of all time? Please tell us it'll be so funny to put on the brackets. Multiple submissions are allowed! As well as submissions from more niche Danganronpa content like the books or anime! Cross content ships are also allowed! No oc fangans though!

Now I want a clean fight, the rules here are simple. While propaganda and all that fun stuff is encouraged, let's not be dick to actual people! No sending hate for voting wrong or whatever.

For example; "Man I hate this ship vote for it" or "Why is this ship here I love this ship don't vote for it" is fine! "man I hate this ship and this creator specifically because their art sucks" or "if you vote for this ship you're genuinely homophobic and I'm going to send you anon hate" is not! We may be haters, but we are people as well, so we should act like people.

With that out of the way, let the submissions for the tournament begin! I will be taking submissions for the rest of the month.

Later today, a new form will go up, containing a list of all the ships that received more than one submission, or that are bordering on the cusp of being less rare. Here, you can vote for which of them YOU would consider a rarepair!

After three days (More if necessary, but I will see what the results look like), I can start making the brackets, and the tournament can begin!

Just wondering, why is there a minimum ships requirement? Is it to delineate between a rarepair and a crackship? All the accepted ships look great, I can't wait to see the full bracket!!

We needed some requirements for what qualifies as a rarepair. After looking through AO3 ship tags we decided that 10 to 30 is a perfect spot - obscure enough to be a rarepair but popular enough that people might have heard about it. We'll probably accept only 48 ships (it needs to be a multiple of 8). If we made the range any wider there would be too many submissions.

ALRIGHT. Let's talk about rarepair ship bracket art.

So assuming Tumblr fixes my messaging system within the next few days (and my search function. And my blog showing up in notes. And my blog showing up in Tumblr search. And I think my posts showing up in tags. A lot of things broke very quickly for some reason), I've sent out messages and checked permissions for at least one piece of fanart for every rarepair ship I could possibly find! And every single piece is really, really good.

With the posts from this blog/queue plus submissions, there were a total of 261 ships that met the criteria. I cut down five of them for a nice, divisible-by-four 256 so that I could do this bracket in sections, and bring them all together for the semifinals.

Some of the art I've asked for will inevitably be declined to use and I'll have to scour for them again. But at the last edit of this post, I now have 17 more ships that need art to represent them. (This number will be edited as updates come! It was originally 45.)

Which is still so many. I certainly can't draw 45 pieces. And I certainly don't have the money to commission 45 pieces all at once. And eventually, I'll just fill in the remaining ships with sprite edit, but I'd like to get fanart for as many of them as possible, if only to spotlight the artists.

So I am posting this to the world! Underneath the cut is the list of ships that still need art. If you would be willing to draw any of these for this bracket - or if you know any existing fanart whose creators I could contact for permission to use - please just drop a message or ask to my main, @pechebeche! (Since I currently don't have messages on this sideblog, and I don't know if asks will work, either. If someone is willing to send an ask to this one to test it, that'd be great too!)

I may also turn on tips for this blog? Archiving content is a stress reliever for me, so I haven't felt comfortable getting any money for it, but 1) I would love to be able to pay fair prices for pieces for victors and/or some of the ships for this bracket!, and 2) this bracket in particular has been a lot of work! I've taken it upon myself, and money will obviously will never be required for this, but I might just open up the option.
