Are there two characters that absolutely should not be anywhere near each other, to the point where one should be getting a restraining order? Are there pairings in fiction that you couldn't be paid a quadrillion rubles to come up with on your own? Are you sick of all these picket-fence, vanilla pudding, ERENxMIKASA snoozefests that plague the internet? If so, you've come to the right place. Get your kissy-kissy lips on, find a slightly uncomfortable chair and LETS GET SHIPPING!!!

I have only FOUR RULES HERE:

You can say whatever you want here, so long as;

1. Its not discriminatory

Any sort of phobia/ism here is not welcome. This blog is for everyone, regardless of ethnicity, orientation or gender identity.

2. Its a joke,

and clearly a joke. We poke fun at each other here. Lets keep it fun.

3. Its true.

I have the power of google, and any misinformation will be swiftly corrected. When you are corrected, either accept it or be blocked. Misinformation and straight up lies are not welcome here.

4: You speak with the understanding that these characters aren't real people, nor do they represent them

These are cartoons. Works of fiction. They're not real. Please keep any deep-seated obsession with character's ethnicity, sexuality, age, background etc to yourself. Acting holier-than-thou and making that the subject of your personal issue with my posts doesn't make you a hero, nor is that the groundbreaking opinion you think it is, it just makes the jokes awkward and uncomfortable for many people here.

Aaaaanyways, now we've got that out of the way (and yes, I will add more rules as the need arises, don't test me)

I'll mostly be using the absolute maelstrom of doodoo I call a brain to come up with ideas, but if you'd like to submit some ideas of your own, feel free. Send it to my ASK box. Nothing illegal, past a certain point, please.

Welcome to Critter Rarepair Reccs!

Hey y'all! Welcome to Critter Rarepair Reccs, a recommendation list aimed at fics written for ships that are largely under-represented, appreciated, and loved in our fandom! Now, let's address the elephant in the room first; rarepair is a misnomer here, knowingly. Some of the ships eligible to be recc'ed on this list might not be ones you'd consider a rarepair! So, the more proper welcome would be-

Now, it goes without saying, but before we get into the details here, let's get one thing clear: this blog is dedicated to spreading love and appreciation to fanworks and their creators. Ship hate of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in a block.

With that said, let's talk about the criteria for an underloved ship and why we're defining it the way we are.

Definition & Explantion

There is one qualifier for a ship to be eligible for this list: less than 100 fics were written for it and posted to Ao3 during 2023.

We landed on this metric for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it casts a very wide net for pairings while still narrowing the field a fair bit. The gulf of works between flagship pairings, endgame pairings, and some of the larger side/non-canon pairings is significant. Secondly, we wanted to take a look at how the fandom is currently, which is why we pivoted away from using the Wildflower System ( @cr-summer-wildflowers ) of excluding any pairing with more than 500 fics total. There are a number of pairings that were extremely popular at one point in time, but these days get far less love and attention. Let's take Widofjord for example. They have almost a thousand fics total and were in the Top 10 relationship tags for Critical Role on Ao3 for a long time. But last year? Only 27 fics were written for them. They have, functionally, become a rarepair.

So, to be fair to ships that exist in that same, nebulous space, we're looking at totals from last year, not lifetime.

For illustration purposes, here are charts (compiled by the wonderful @spottedenchants ) showing how many fics were written for each PC/PC ship last year.

Ineligible Ships

Which ships, then, don't qualify under that definition? It's not a terribly long list. PC endgame relationships, primarily, a handful of non-canon pairings, and some prospective endgame ships. For simplicity's sake, we'll break them down by campaign.

Campaign 1: Perc'ahlia, Vaxleth, Pikelan, Perc'ildan

Campaign 2: Shadowgast, Beauyasha, Fjorester, Widomauk

Campaign 3: Imodna, Dorym, Ashrym

If one of these pairings is secondary or background to a fic, that's alright! But the fic shouldn't focus or center on them. It's also worth noting that polyamorous ships that include one of these pairs are also alright! Shadowidomauk, for example, only had 61 fics written for it last year, so they're in the clear! The same goes for Dashrym, as another example, as they've only ever had 36 fics written for them.

It is also worth noting all accepted submissions must be respectful of character’s canon sexualities; for example, we will not take fics that feature an M/F pairing of a lesbian character, even if said pairing fits the “rarepair” criteria.

The caveat to the above would be queerplatonic fic! There will be an option on the submission form to specify, to avoid confusion due to Ao3’s lack of a designated QPR relationship tag!

So when does the list open for submissions?

Very soon! February 7th, next Wednesday! The opening theme with be Fluff, and that list will be posted a week later, on Valentine’s Day, February 14th! I hope we’ll see you then! 🩷

Yugioh Rarepair Week Day 5!!

Of course I’m gonna choose to do Tweetshipping for this day. I mean, theres literally a crossover prompt??? So I NEEDED to draw them :3

Also I drew them in the outfits of Mozarta the Melodious Maestra and Fairy Cheer Girl (but you cant see that too well (was gonna do another drawing but fully body to properly see the outfits but I’ll probably just do that another day away from this challenge :3)

Tomorrow I’m probably gonna do circus but it’s probably gonna mostly be a bunch of non-refined drawing as I’m gonna find out the outfits, their roles and stuff + I dont know if I wanna do multiple ships too??? But yeah :333

Ok so shadubs IS lizzie x bdubs and actually if you want a lot of information about it I recommend asking @captainschaos --it's ver brainchild even though I technically was the one who was making the inciting joke.

Originally the joke that sil made was that bdubs and joel were destined metamours-- talking, at the time, about etho. I took this and went yeah so this implies that there's something going on between bdubs and lizzie which, yeah, that makes sense.

They garden together. They're sweet together and gentle and they bond over ribbing at Joel and riffing off of each other and. Their relationship is quiet and understated but it's so full of this profound mundane sort of love. Whether it's romantic or not isn't important, what's important is that they tend to the garden like clockwork and they sit together for tea parties and they gossip with each other.

Where like... ethubs is grand gestures of loyalty, right. Ethubs is tragic and doomed and grand and in love. Bdubs will wax poetic about etho at the drop of a hat, even if he'll later undercut it with a joke. Etho will create something incredible for Bdubs just to make him smile. They love each other in these big overarching bold ways.

To me, shadubs is nothing like that. If they didn't tell you they were in some kind of relationship, you probably wouldn't even notice. Shadubs is the little things. Lizzie picks up a new packet of seeds when she's at the store because those flowers would look lovely growing in Bdubs' cloak. Bdubs making two cups of coffee in the morning, one for him and one for Lizzie at just the right time for it to be warm when she joins him in the kitchen. Quietly and unobtrusively holding hands in the solace of their home.

And don't get me wrong-- they're both meangirls sometimes. They bitch about whatever's annoying them while they garden. Teatime is a time for gossip about their friends and other partners. Playing up their annoyances and yes anding each other is part of how they work. But at the core it's this soft tender quiet relationship that's just... so incredibly mundane in the best of ways.
