There's No Such Thing As A Normal Morning in Kabukicho Sakata Gintoki x Haruno Sakura (Part VII)

Previous A/N: Just them living the domestic life because why the hell not.

"Phew! Glad that was over," Gintoki sighs. "Come, there's a corner shop nearby," he exclaims, inviting Sakura for a quick walk.

It is still early in the morning but the Edo sun is already starting to feel a little hotter on the skin. It's summer after all, Sakura thought. She looks around to observe the unfamiliar surroundings, carefully trying to figure out where the hell she actually is.

Children are running around in laughter, playing with nothing but sticks and stones. Old people are up early tending to their businesses. The street is starting to feel more and more alive as they stroll.

She thinks of Konoha, her friends... her beloved Sarada.

They passed by a ramen shop that looks like it's just about to open. The sight of it felt awfully nostalgic. Gin notices her expression.

"Everything alright?" The samurai asks, hands behind his head.

"O-of course!" she turns to Gin with a forced smile. "Just thinking of what to cook for the kids," she lies.

"Ahh, they'll be fine with whatever." he replies, sensing her facade. He decides he won't get into it if she doesn't want to.

"The girl is a glutton though. She eats way too much!" he adds.

Sakura looks up trying to suppress her tears. She sees the skies of Edo looking clear and inviting, while a bunch of weird aircrafts hover around a tall structure sticking out from a distance.

It dawned on her that she is undoubtedly far from home. In fact, way too far. Her chest tightens at the thought of it.

Gin hears a quiet sniffle.

"We'll just go with the usual eggs, rice, and some furikake. Hell, maybe we'll throw in bacon for you, too." Gin tries his best to derail whatever's going on with her head.

Sakura didn't respond, still in deep thought. She wonders how she'll get home, or if there is even a way to.

"Which reminds me, we're also low on dog food. Gotta restock on those, too. Have I already mentioned we have a dog? It's actually Kagura-chan's, but of course I'm forced to take care of it," Gin rolls his eyes, ranting.

She stays silent.

"That mutt is big - actually, no - he's huge! Bites like a fucker, too!"

Still no response from the lady.

At this point, he resigns. Gin grabs her by the waist and pulls her closer to his side.

"Oh!" she snaps back to reality.

"Sorry, you were just about to step on a puddle of poop back there." Gin hangs his right arm over her shoulder. "You should stay close to me, ya know?" He leans in to her face. "It's dangerous in Kabukicho. Lots of thugs and poop everywhere," he adds, shaking his head.

Sakura understands what he's trying to do and finally cracks a genuine smile. He catches this at the corner of his eyes and felt relieved.

"Say, Sakata-san," she starts as they continue walking in the same position. "Do you have any idea what happened the night that I got here?"

"What do you mean? I was piss drunk on the counter, enjoying my sake, then the next thing I know you were pounding my face," he answers bitterly.

"No, I mean..." she paused and lets out a chuckle. "I mean, do you actually have any idea how I got here?"

Gin thinks for a second before responding with a flat tone.

"No... "

Looks like this isn't going to be easier than I thought. Inner Sakura panics. We can't be stuck here. We need to go home.

"I see," she replies, visibly defeated.

"Well, do you?" he asks back.

Sakura looks down and shakes her head. Gintoki exhales.

"I guess we can ask the old lady downstairs. She owns the bar you trashed. Prepare your ears for some scolding, though."

"Okay, let's do that," she says under her breath. "Thank you, Sakata-san. I really don't know what's gotten into me that night, let alone how I got here."

"That's fine. Shit happens here all the time," he replies. "And didn't you say you'll make up for it by cooking us a nice breakfast?"

She smiles at him, eyes weary but full of hope.

My god, she's beautiful.

He held her gaze for a second, then breaks it. "We're here," he says, pointing at the humble store beside them.

After grabbing all the ingredients they need, they proceed to the small checkout table near the door where an old lady is painstakingly bagging the paid items one by one.

There is a short line of customers. Gin and Sakura patiently wait in line when they notice what the man in front of them is carrying in his grocery basket.

"Ungodly," Gin remarks, already knowing who the maniac is. Sakura looks at him completely puzzled but he just signals her to keep her voice down.

"That's the police," he whispers in her ear.

"Are we in trouble?" she responds, confused.

"No, of course not."

"Then why are we whispering?"

"I actually don't know," Gin shrugs, still whispering.

"What is he going to do with that much mayonnaise?" Sakura asks with genuine concern.

Gin retches, "You don't wanna know."

"Morning, Yorozuya," Hijikata greets him without turning his head. "I rarely see you this early," he adds.

Caught!

"Oh you know, just doing some groceries.. the usual," Gin fake laughs.

"The kids are finally tired of you bossing them around, eh?" he mocks. "Serves your lazy ass right."

"Shut the fuck up, mayo addict," Gin claps back.

Hijikata glances over his shoulder and sees an unfamiliar woman with a bright pink hair. She looks young and fit, presumably in her early 30s. He took a quick scan of her and noticed Sakura's hand unconsciously pinching the side of Gintoki's yukata. Like a child not wanting to get separated from her mother.

"I don't recognize you, miss... are you new here?"

He looks back at the counter to pay for his mountain of mayonnaise. The old woman starts bagging them one by one.

Sakura caught a glimpse of his face and oddly reminded her of Sasuke. She shakes her head. "No... uh, officer. I'm afraid I don't live around here."

"Are you lost? Have you been kidnapped?" Hijikata interrogates casually as he helps with the bagging.

"Hey! She's with me, dumbass," Gin protests. "No kidnapping involved. Tell him, Haruno-san."

"You are with a dangerous man, miss. You should be careful," Hijikata cuts in with a straight face. "Don't hesitate to run to the station if he starts harassing you, alright?"

"Stop ruining my morning, you corrupt dog!" Gin hisses back.

Sakura chuckles at the two bantering knuckleheads. It seems like they're actually good friends after all.

"Don't worry, officer. I can handle myself just fine," she joins in.

Hijikata grabs his paper bag bursting of mayo bottles and turns to Gintoki's face. "Make sure you bring her home safely or I'll fucking slit your belly," he warned, thinking that she's another innocent woman he coerced to join him with his antics.

Gin stares him down.

"I'll keep an eye on you, Yorozuya," the vice-captain threatens him for the last time before leaving the store.

The two adults walked back in comfortable silence, both hands carrying heavy paper bags full of groceries.

"Bar is still closed," Gin mentions as soon as they arrived, "We'll come back later."

Sakura nods as they went up the stairs.

Gin slides the door open and immediately got his head chewed on. Blood starts dripping all over his face. "We're back," he said flatly. His voice echoed inside the giant dog's mouth.

"Gin-chan! Sadaharu is back!" Kagura runs to the door to greet them. "Hello, pinkette!" she adds, acknowledging Sakura's presence.

"Oy, don't be rude to our guest," Gintoki scolds the girl while as he removes his head from the dog's mouth. "Here, take these to the kitchen."

They both handed Kagura the heavy paper bags and she runs back in, excited for the food. "Shinpachi, they're back!"

"Oh, she's strong," Sakura remarks and Gin smirks.

"You have no idea."

Shinpachi greets them in the living room as soon as he finished sweeping the floor. "Welcome back, Gin-san, and uh..." he pauses, unsure how to address the lady.

"Haruno Sakura," the lady holds her hand out to the boy, inviting a handshake. "Sorry again for earlier," she says, bashful.

"D-don't worry about it, Haruno-san," he shakes her hand back, not knowing what the gesture meant but just kind of went along with it.

"How are the legs?" Gin asks, looking at Sadaharu curling up in a corner. The dog has bandages wrapped around both hind legs.

"The vet says he'll be fine, but..." Shinpachi hesitates. "I'm afraid Sadaharu won't be able to run as fast anymore. Kagura-chan was also advised not to ride him."

"Ehh, he can still walk, he's fine," Gin says dismissively.

Kagura runs back to the living room and tugs on his yukata. "Sadaharu is going to be okay, right, Gin-chan?" Her eyes getting misty.

"Get off of me!" he nags. "I told you not to play too rough with him!"

Sadaharu growls.

"Do you mind if I take a look?" Sakura cuts in.

"Oh, right. You are a doctor," Gin remembers. "By the way, Haruno-san here is a doctor in her town," he explains to the kids. Their faces light up, hopeful.

Sakura sits on the floor and faced the dog. Gin crouches behind her, and the two kids watch them intently.

"Hello, Sadaharu," she starts. "I'm here to help you, okay?"

The expert medic nin inspected the legs first, then worked her way throughout the whole body. She slowly pets the dog until it grows more and more comfortable with her touch.

At the back of her head, this reminds her of the countless times she tended to her sensei's dogs. She silently shakes the memory away so she can focus.

"I can sense a few broken bones there, but it can be fixed," she assures the trio. Kagura grins from ear to ear upon hearing this.

Sakura's hands glow green as she hovers it over the poor dog's legs. Sadaharu whimpers a little, and in a few more seconds, the dog stands up, jumps around, and barks happily.

"There, all done," Sakura smiles, wiping the sweat on her forehead. "And such a good boy, too!" Sadaharu licks her face excitedly, and the trio is stunned with what just happened.

"You're amazing, Haruno-san!" Shinpachi remarks with wide eyes. "How did you do that!"

"Sadaharu!!!" Kagura cries in happiness. "Are you feeling better now, Sadaharu?" she hugs the dog and rubs its chin. "I promise I'll be more careful!"

Gintoki stands up and extends a hand to Sakura. She gets up with his help and their eyes locked in a gaze for a split second.

He's grateful, yet he doesn't know how to tell her. He wants to kiss her right then and there... But maybe not in front of the kids, he thought. Yeah, not in front of these two dorks. He shakes the idea away.

"Kitchen?" he asks, and the lady happily follows.

Do you have any favorite naruto fics you’d recommend? Any pairing, complete or not, on-hiatus, gen, oneshots, anything is fine lol

I was legitimately just pruning my bookmarks the other day!! thank you so much for asking.

I don't read too much fanfic these days, and I'm picky when I do--only about grammar/punctuation and immersion though. I ship a LOT of stuff (I guess The Youth would call me a proshipper) and although I never read darkfic, I don't shy away from weirder kinks and unhealthy relationship stuff.

categorizing by pairing, if applicable. some of them are smutty, and please note that the first 3 come from FFN which doesn't have a tagging system, but there is some SA CW I'll give in advance.

KAKASAKU | my first OTP! formative fics that totally reshaped my understanding of what fanfiction could be, and how well-written chemistry can make it or break it

HOUSE OF CROWS is the quintessential kakasaku fanfic. it was written during shippuden and so is canon divergent because of that, but also tells a comprehensive story of its own right that is intriguing and well planned. excellent characterization and world building. leaves me gutted in the best way on my yearly reread.

DUTY BEFORE HONOR is another silvershine classic. I don't reread is as often as House of Crows but they are just about equal in quality. again, the chemistry between them is off the charts, and the world feels so alive.

WILL OF FIRE for me is up there with House of Crows in being essential kakasaku reading. cynchick is a multisaku champion and a wonderful storyteller. the stakes in this one are stressful, the romance tense and believable, and we once again get lovely world building and great chemistry.

ITAKISA | a pairing near and dear to me, because men who do everything wrong are so deeply relatable. they both know they don't deserve anything good ever again but they found each other!!!! ARE YOU GUYS SEEING THIS--

A SHARK HIDDEN INN THE LEAVES doesn't have my favorite version of Kisame, but he's plenty close enough. it's a lengthy oneshot that got me into certain *ahem* kinks. it is a very fun and wild fic that is entirely self-aware of how absurd it's being, and manages to have nothing but sincerity at the same time (and I highly recommend the author's other stories as well)

AN ORCHESTRA PLAYING ON, INSANE is a modern AU (extremely rare in my bookmarks) that absolutely tore my heart out. god is it SO much to ask for these losers to be happy?! yes, it is, and I love every moment of it

MADAMITO | a rarepair I am SUCH a sucker for that has some of the most talented authors writing for it. lots of them have ot3 elements between them and hashirama, often angsty, but stuff like that is part of the appeal for me, lol

A HANDFUL OF SKY is an unfinished fic that I genuinely think about like once a week. if it ever updates then I will be over the moon. technically hashimadamito but it hadn't quite gotten there yet

LIKE ALTARS is just such a beautiful piece of writing, mostly on madara. it is everything, that is all

BLOOD AND RIVER WATER is more mito-centric but has one of my favorite madaras of all time

YOURS ARE RATTLED BONES is another short, mito-centric but gut-wrenching piece featuring the opposite type of madara from the last one

OTHER | character-centric stuff that isn't necessarily shippy but also doesn't have a very "gen" vibe either?

A SERPENT IN THE RICE is a little series about orochimaru that makes me feel so so so many things. highly recommended

HERETIC is such a love letter to kushina, and kurama too. cannot stress enough how much I adore this one

there's a few others that I probably won't link on tumblr, mostly unhealthy and/or "problematic" smut hhfhdj but maybe I'll make a public rec list on ao3 for these different categories and stuff like that.

but yeah that's pretty much it!!! I know it's not a huge list with a lot of variety but it's what I've enjoyed over the last 15+ years in the naruto fandom.

I've never done a bing and I have the same concern as others: that my ships won't be included. Instead of doing a poll for ships, why don't you just make 25 prompts without ships and everyone gets to pick the ship for the prompt? That seems like a good compromise to me. I had the same issue with MultiSaku month where two thirds of the ships were so completely out of the blue that almost no one made content for them and more 'common' rarepairs didn't even appear in the list

The current plan is to do a 50/50 split of ship and non ship prompts. That ratio may change depending on the poll but it doesn’t feel right to have a rarepair event without any rarepairs as prompts. It may end up 6 ship prompts and 18 non ships prompts or something else. It isn’t set in stone, but there will be at least a few ships prompts.

The intent of the poll is to make the rarepairs chosen ones that will appeal to more people and the point of the non ship prompts are to be sure ‘extra rare’ rarepairs and such won’t be overlooked completely. Anyone who perfers less ship promtps be sure to mention it in a comment during the poll, we want to know! And suggest extra non ship prompts if you can think of any. If we change the amounts we may end up doing a second poll which could delay the release of the board. This is the first time this event is happening, so I don’t believe it’s possible to get it exactly right the first time. It may turn out that the ship prompts that end up on the board don’t do well, but it’s something we currently intend to try. I can’t say without the poll that enough people want less ships prompts to change it yet though. Thank you for your suggestion!

I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with this kind of abuse and unnecessary rudeness. HashiSaku is one of my favorite rarepairs and I was so flattered and honored when you said you based that art off of inspiration from my story. Even beyond that, MultiSaku’s don’t deserve hate just because we want to imagine all the possibilities. You didn’t do anything wrong, and if you need help reporting repostings of your art, I’m sure many people will be behind you!

Hi loves I’m finally back after a short break, today was supposed to be back with a brand new idea and theme (drum rolls).

Now let me explain to you why I did go on a break, days before my decision I came across a lot of posts that were criticizing my drawings not in a constructive way, those person were insulting the ships I decided to draw and me as a person, I decided to ‘’let it go’’ cause I didn’t really care about it, thinking that it would go away with time.

Sadly I was wrong, it was just the beginning, as you know I’m a MultiSaku shipper, I don’t have one particular ship with that character and I enjoy seeing the different one that exist and sometimes I found them so interesting inspiration sparks, I know that lately I’ve been drawing a lot of TobiSaku that doesn’t mean I only ship them and I’m once again assuring you that I’m a MultiSaku shipper, that being said let us go back to the main subject, as I told you earlier I found that people were insulting me and my art but here come the worst, those same people that were criticizing me started to stole my drawings from my Tumblr, they decided to stole it and create post on Pinterest were it was recolored, resized and where my name was erased, they started claiming it as there own, some decided to create hate post about my drawings, calling me names on comment and going as far as stalking my Tumblr page and insult me in it.

I had it after this, I was tired of pretending it didn’t hurt me, I was tired of opening my pages to hundreds of hate messages so I had to stop, I’m back now for good, I’m willing to take request and all but I’m taking mesures now to protect all my drawings and myself as an artist.

"Oy."

Gintoki pokes lightly on her forehead. "Woman... I can't feel my shoulders."

He stares at Sakura's face as she peacefully sleeps under a light coming from the window. Her head rests heavy over the samurai's poor arm.

"Haruno-san, come on, we need to get up." Gin maintained a low whisper. His voice still raspy.

Sakura gently shuffles to face him, burying herself into his chest. Sooo cozy, she thought. She fixes the thick duvet covering their bodies and continues to pretend sleeping.

Her hair smells like my shampoo and it is turning me on, god damn it. Gintoki sighs in defeat.

"Haruno-san, I'd love to sleep more like this... but the kids are going to wake up soon, you know?" He warns as he pulls her in for a lazy embrace.

"Sakata-san... I hear you... but your futon feels really comfy right now." She whispers, her face still buried in his chest.

Gin felt her lips brushing on his skin. "Is it the futon or is it me?" He teases.

She chuckles quietly. "You suck at flirting, Sakata-san."

Gintoki, with a slight ego bruise, dived his face lower to meet hers. With his other hand, he tipped her chin up slightly and gave her a quick peck on the lips. She responds and they exchanged a deep but brief kiss. As if it was their way to say good morning to each other.

Sakura pulls away gently to open her eyes, and to no surprise, she is met with another pair already staring at her. His expression is soft with a hint of curiosity.

"Happy to see me?" The lady teases.

"Honestly? Not sure." He retorts playfully.

She notices his gaze slowly travelling its way to her neck, studying her skin carefully, all the way down to her collarbones, but promptly stops when he felt something... touching him.

"Sakata-kun thinks otherwise," she smiles as she gently runs her fingers over his southern head, hard as a rock.

Gintoki quickly fished her hand and shooed it away. "You are such a pervert."

Sakura laughs. "Only for you."

The silver hair smiles and rolled his eyes. "We don't have time for a quickie right now." He lifts his body and sat up. "Come on, let's make breakfast."

She softly shifts to her side with one hand supporting her head up, her expression changing slightly. While the thick duvet still does its best to cover her body, Gin stares freely at her cherry blossoms tattoo.

"Sakata-san, if you don't mind me asking... what happened after the bath?"

"Oh... well," he scratches his head. "You kinda passed out."

"Ah, that makes sense," she agrees while trying to recall yesterday's fragmented memories. "That aphrodisiac must be laced with sleeping agents."

Gin shakes his head. "Sorry about that. I really thought it was paprika." He looks down, embarrassed. And in his defense, the medicine really did look like a packet of seasoning.

What are you blaming the aphrodisiacs for? You already know why you passed out like that. Inner Sakura rolls her eyes.

"Don't worry about it," she chuckles, and the man felt relieved.

Without a word, he gets up, wraps her with the duvet, and peels her away from the futon.

"Nooo!" She playfully exclaims, holding her arms out. "Futon, my beloved!"

Amused with her theatrics, Gin swoops her up and carries her on his arms, looking like a makeshift bride. His face reached for her neck, and there he plants sweet tiny smooches, tickling her into submission.

The room was filled with laughter until--

"Gin-chan, I'm hungry." Kagura slides open his room. Revealing them in an awkward newly wed pose.

Ah fuck. The demons are awake. Gin panics in his head.

Sakura notices. She carefully lets herself down from Gin's clutches and met the child. She goes down on one knee to greet her.

"Good morning, little lady."

Kagura rubs her eyes, still half-asleep. Meanwhile Gintoki scrambles to get into his pants.

"Good morning," she slowly greets back. A cute yawn escapes her mouth.

Sakura cups the child's face gently, her palms soft and warm. She looks back at Gin and mouthed, "Sleep-walk-ing."

They snicker.

Suddenly, another voice echoed from across the room.

"Gin-san, wake up, we are out of groceries! Kagura is going to--" His footsteps draw near.

"--Oh."

Shinpachi stops on his tracks. He sees the three frozen in scene and immediately clocks what's going on. His eyes behind the glasses darted straight to Gintoki, who instantly locked his gaze back to the kid.

Guilty. Like a deer caught in headlights. You have some explaining to do, old man.

"We are so sorry for barging in, miss," he turns to the familiar lady. "We didn't know our boss had a guest staying over." Shinpachi piggybacks the half-asleep Kagura and plopped her down the sofa.

Boss? Sakura turns her head again to Gintoki but now with a quizzed face. Really? You employ teenagers?

He scratches his head. "Alright, alright. Let's all just... calm down." He picks up his yukata from the floor using his toes, slips in it, then casually marches out of his bedroom.

"The lady and I will take care of the groceries." Gintoki turns to the sentient glasses. "You kids stay here and relax." He said with an unconvincing, deepened voice. His face stone cold.

Gintoki then looks at Sakura, who quickly hid to change into her proper clothes. The adults caught each other's gaze and nods.

"I'll explain everything when we get back," Gin assures the kid who is visibly cringing from his weird act. Curious why he's trying to be so macho all of a sudden.

Sakura bursts out laughing, catching her mouth with both hands.

"You're a fun bunch, Sakata-san," she sweetly remarks as she walks towards Shinpachi.

"I'm the one who needs to apologize for barging in your home," Sakura says to the kid with a remorseful face.

I've been in serious IzuSaku feels since rereading the fic and aaaa they have such sweet moments TT out of all the pairs they're the most conventionally romantic one and they have so much easy chemistry with each other, I ship them soooooo hard 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️ I absolutely adore ocean's rendition of Izuna who is gentlemanly and humble yet sly and driven. He's going for all of our hearts on the low low hahahah. Go read the fic and immerse yourself in ocean's wonderful writing!

Thank you for the tag, @kayparker20! I’m so sorry to be a disappointment to @eisabelai though–I’m out here still pretty much exclusively writing ItaSaku (and KS!), but I haven’t sought new reads in this fandom since…uh…longer than I can freely admit. 👀 Consequently all my recs are like ten years old and you’ve probably read them, I’m so sorry! 😫

BUT this ItaSaku rec list (link) is quite contemporary and intentionally omits some of the most-recced older fics, so maybe there’s something here you haven’t read yet.

Also, @birkastan2018​ reads multisaku voraciously. I know a lot of people find the types of fic they’re looking for through them because they are a living fandom treasure like that! 💜

Best of luck with the SasoSaku hunt, too. I have seen it over the years, to be sure, but rarepairs can be tough, and Akatsuki ships seem to have fallen a little by the wayside lately. Fortunately there are a lot of BAMF!Sakura multishippers out there, so I’m sure you’ll find what you’re looking for eventually!

Hi! This might be a strange request, but is there anyway you could put together a list of or recommend some good sasosaku or itasaku fics? Been on a real bender with Sakura and everyone's interpretation of her. Neither the anime or manga do her justice in my opinion. And I honestly think these pairing are amazing because of the both men's characteristics and how they can compliment and challenge her so well.

But I'm so sad to tell you I haven't read any fics for SasoSaku and very, very little for ItaSaku.

If you've seen my blog, you probably know I'm a sucker for KakaSaku mainly, but also ShikaSaku and NejiSaku. I ship her Itachi but haven't had a chance to read many fanfics to be able to rec any.

I do know that @rabidbehemoth absolutely loves ItaSaku and writes fanfics for them and they are AMAZING and could definitely give you some recs for ItaSaku I'm sure.

I also don't think the anime didn't give her enough. I haven't read the manga yet though.
