I mean, for having wealth, Quirin has clearly raised Varian not to see that as anything that makes him better than others. He's clearly been raised to see his excess as a way to help others. Knowing how Varian is when we first meet him (the innocence, the altruism, the carefree devil-may care attitude to his own safety) I'd wager that Varian only got new clothing when forced, which I imagine both frustrated and made Quirin proud.

During Vat7k, I imagine him constantly having to remind Hugo that he grew up a "farmer" which would get him some solid playful ribbing from him when they visit Old Corona to the tune of "oh yeah, I grew up in a repurposed keep with the village leader for my dad".

am i the only one who never noticed how big Varian’s house is? it’s no palace but it’s like a small castle, or what’s left of a castle. the hut in front (and Varian’s raggedy clothes) always throw me off, but look at those high, double doors man. that stone staircase leading to the double doors. the arches in the water making a little moat. They even got a little boathouse to the left there I think! It’s a pretty sweet setup.

Varian’s bedroom’s in the top of the lower tower it looks like. See where the light is? And this deleted storyboard of his room blows my mind because he has so much stuff! It’s everywhere! Like this kid is definitely not poor, probably upper middle class, and he’s dressing like it now.

And so the visual aid that kept playing in my mind as I listened to it is that brief playful snowball fight they had in Chapter 19 from Varian's Tangled Trials cuz I'm like, actually obsessed with the headcanon that winter season troubles Varian cuz of the bad memories he has affiliated with it from his past but chooses to make new good ones in the present with the new people he met that's traveling with him across the seven kingdoms—like that was such a sweet and smart way to incorporate a callback to something so crucial to his character journey from the show, I loved it a lot. So this visual is like if that snowball scene was extended into a music number in my head. So yeh! Happy Valentine's Day Varigo Nation ♡
