Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah (Amit Shah) – A Biography
Early Life and Education
Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah, born on October 22, 1964, in Mumbai to Mrs. Kusum Ben and Mr. Anilchandra Shah, hails from a family with deep roots in Gujarat. His grandfather was a prosperous merchant (Nagar Seth) in Mansa, a small princely state of the Baroda State of Gaikwad. Shah spent his early years in Mansa, where he received his primary education. His upbringing was steeped in the ‘Indian Value Tradition,’ under the guidance of eminent scholars from the Gaikwad State, focusing on Indian scriptures, historical texts, grammar, and epics.
Influences and Early Political Engagement
After completing his primary education, Shah’s family relocated to Ahmedabad. Influenced by his mother, an ardent Gandhian, Shah embraced the simplicity of Khadi. His fascination with the biographies of patriots and the writings of K.M. Munshi deeply influenced his young mind.
At the age of 13, during the 1977 general elections amidst the Emergency period, Shah actively participated in the campaign, supporting Maniben Patel, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s daughter, who contested from the Mehsana Lok Sabha seat as a Jana Sangh candidate.
Early Political Career
Shah’s formal political journey began at 16 when he joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a young Swayamsevak in 1980. By 1982, he was the joint secretary of the Gujarat unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and worked as a polling agent for the BJP in 1984. He joined the BJP Yuva Morcha in 1987 and became involved with the Deendayal Research Institute, serving as its treasurer for eight years. This period allowed him to learn from the social reformer Nanaji Deshmukh.
Rise in the BJP
In 1989, Shah became the BJP secretary of Ahmedabad, playing a pivotal role during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the Ekta Yatra. He managed election campaigns for senior leaders like L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Gandhinagar until 2009. Shah’s association with Narendra Modi began in the 1990s when Modi was the BJP’s Organization Secretary in Gujarat. Shah’s business acumen helped him significantly when he became the chairman of the Gujarat Pradesh Finance Corporation in 1995, turning around the corporation’s financial health.
Political Achievements in Gujarat
Shah was appointed the National Treasurer of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha in 1997 and won the Sarkhej assembly by-election by a margin of 25,000 votes. He continuously won assembly elections until 2012, with increasing margins each time. As an MLA, Shah facilitated numerous development projects and became the state secretary of Gujarat BJP in 1998, and state vice-president within a year.
Leadership in Cooperative Sector and Further Political Roles
At 36, Shah became the youngest chairman of the Ahmedabad District Co-operative Bank (ADCB) in 2000, transforming its financial status. He was appointed as the convener of the BJP’s National Cooperative Cell in 2001. He played a crucial role in the 2002 Gujarat assembly elections under Narendra Modi’s leadership and served as a minister in the Gujarat government, holding key portfolios like Home, Traffic, Prohibition, Parliamentary Affairs, Law, and Excise.
National Politics and BJP Presidency
In 2013, Shah became the BJP’s National General Secretary. During the 2014 elections, he was pivotal in the BJP’s success in Uttar Pradesh, securing 73 seats. On July 9, 2014, Shah became the BJP National President. Under his leadership, the BJP expanded its organizational base and achieved significant electoral successes, forming governments in states like Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Haryana, and Maharashtra. He was re-elected as the national president in 2016 and became a trustee of the Somnath Temple Trust the same year.
Ministerial Roles and Legislative Achievements
In 2017, Shah was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and continued to strengthen the party’s presence across India. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar, winning by a significant margin. Appointed as the Home Minister in 2019, Shah played a crucial role in major legislative changes, including the abrogation of Article 370 and the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Contributions to Security and Disaster Management
Shah has been instrumental in resolving long-standing issues in Kashmir and the northeastern states, implementing a zero-tolerance policy against Left-Wing Extremism, and improving disaster management protocols. His efforts have bolstered internal security and the National Disaster Response Force’s (NDRF) effectiveness.
Ministry of Cooperation and Personal Life
In 2021, Shah was appointed as the Minister of Cooperation, focusing on revitalizing the cooperative movement. Despite his busy political career, Shah enjoys various cuisines, old films, and chess. He has not traveled abroad since 2006, maintaining a disciplined and spiritual lifestyle.
Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah’s journey from a young activist to one of India’s most influential politicians is marked by strategic acumen, dedication to public service, and a deep commitment to the nation’s security and development.

Manipur case: 4 arrested and police raids going on, CM confirms chances of Capital Punishment
Ever since the horrific Manipur video came out, there have been major developments in the case. While Aam Admi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal called out PM Modi to take notice of things happening in India and take strict action, PM Modi criticized the entire incident after almost two months, the development includes a lot of political developments.
Now, the video has caught the eye of the common man and there is a lot of rage happening over various platforms. The Manipur Police has claimed that it is making all efforts to nab all four culprits. “The State Police is making all-out efforts to arrest the other culprits at the earliest. Raids are continuing,” the state police tweeted on Thursday. So far, the police have arrested 4 culprits.
Manipur CMN Biren Singh also gave a public statement and said, “A thorough investigation is currently underway and we will ensure strict action is taken against all the perpetrators, including considering the possibility of capital punishment. Let it be known, there is absolutely no place for such heinous acts in our society.”
While BJP wanted to discuss the topic in the Parliament, it claimed that the opposition did not want the same. Union minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal said, “The Congress and the rest of the opposition parties disrupted the House proceedings even though the government made it clear that it is ready for discussion.”
“It became clear from the attitude of the opposition that they came, making up their mind, that they will not allow the House to function. They are worried because there were incidents of violence (during panchayat polls) in Bengal. Misbehavior with women is happening in Congress-ruled states. Perhaps, they are running away from a discussion due to this,” Goyal told the reporters.
For the uninitiated, 4 people with a mob paraded two women naked in Manipur and raped one of them on May 4. The FIR was filed the next day and after 63 days of filing the FIR and one day after the video surfaced, the developments started happening.

BJP to improve its position in north east through Rajya Sabha polls
Sagarneel Sinha After the saffron party’s recent victory in the assembly polls, particularly in the northeastern state of Manipur, it was expected that there would be a positive impact in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the northeast, which financially depends mostly on the Centre. The return of the saffron party in the state of Manipur with a majority of its own shows that it is no…

Bihar and By poll elections in India
The exit polls were out regarding Bihar elections and it showed the RJD- Congress alliance winning the elections comfortably. The Indian media started debating and had already declared Tejashwi Yadav as the next Chief Minister. When the results came out the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won the election with a majority of 125 seats. Yet again the Indian Media were not even close to reality and were living in lala land. So let's look at what the media and the pundits missed on the ground in Bihar.
1) To start with they missed the silent voter which was the women of Bihar. Out of the 125 seats the NDA won 90 seats where Women voted more than the Men. They have benefited from both the Centre and State Governments programs over the years. Be it the LPG cylinders, Toilets, Electricity, Bank Accounts, Bank Loans, 1 Re Sanitary pads etc from the Centre and Self help groups which created employment, Law & Order and the Liquor ban by the State. There was also the fear for the women of return of the Jungle Raj of the 1990's and early 2000's where Law and Order situation was at its worst. It has been very encouraging to see the women vote more than the men especially in rural areas since the past few elections.
2) The next is the migrant voter where the media showed the migrants story where they had to face lot of hardship and how the central government left them to their fate and how the Bihari migrant will punish Modi in this election. What we saw on the ground is the BJP performing the best out of all the political parties especially in migrant dominated areas where they won 35 out of 41 seats and 51 out of 75 seats for the NDA. It showed the maturity of the Bihari migrant who understood why the lockdown decision had to be taken and one can only thank them for understanding why certain things had to be done. Another reason could be them still preferring Nitish and Modi as compared to Tejaswi and Rahul even though there was anger and they don't feel the opposition is a viable choice. Yet again shouting unemployment especially of the migrants did not work for the opposition and their media houses which reflects in the results.
3) As far as Congress and Tejaswi are concerned, it is the same old story for the Congress where it is all noise but nothing to show on ground. Tejaswi's party performed decently where he tried to focus more on relevant issues like education, jobs, healthcare etc. He had to do it all alone against the Centre and State Government combination because Congress was irrelevant and considering that he has done well and has something to build on.
4) One of the reasons which the opposition gave for their defeat was the good performance given by Asaduddin Owaisi. He won only 5 seats but according to the opposition he ended up cutting a chunk of their Muslim votes. But the same had happened on the other side where Chirag Paswan's party the LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) won only 1 seat but cut into of the votes of the JDU (Janta Dal United). So to just blame Owaisi along with the EVM's (Electronic Voting Machines) won't cover the mistakes the opposition made while campaigning and they need to come up with a better strategy to counter the Modi Government. One positive news for the opposition was the performance of the communist party which got 16 seats.
Going into the By poll results which took place across 11 states of the country, the BJP dominated in those elections as well. They surprisingly have performed well in states like Telangana and Manipur which are not their stronghold states. The most interesting seats that no media house will show is the victory of the BJP in Muslim majority seats. One of the examples was former Indian cricketer Late Chetan Chauhan's wife Sangeeta Chauhan winning Nauwagan Sagat, Uttar Pradesh which is a Muslim majority seat. The Muslims voting for the BJP has now become a reality especially after passing the Triple Talaq Law for Muslim Women which has now led the opposition targeting the Muslims and Dalits vote combination as their new strategy.
What these two results in Bihar and By poll elections show is the mood of the Nation. They still have complete belief in Modi and the work he is doing in the Centre but it also shows the lack of belief in the opposition even though there might be some anger against the Government. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has also announced that they won't contest the next Uttar Pradesh elections with any major party which also shows the impact of these election results. The opposition especially the Congress rather than focusing on their leadership and organisation issues are still busy in Modi bashing with the hope they will get something out of it but the results don't reflect that. It has now been close to 20 years where the opposition along with its ecosystem has invested more time on Modi than on issues which matter the people. I hope they focus more on issues such as economy, unemployment, women issues, farmer issues etc which can give them some dividends.
Another significant impact of these results is the rising number of seats of the NDA in the Rajya Sabha. The BJP already has a complete majority in the Lok Sabha and by getting a majority in the Rajya Sabha will help them pass bills like the NRC (National Register of Citizens) and UCC (Uniform Civil Code) with ease. With the Central Government pushing their agenda even due to the challenge of Covid 19 and a weak & divided opposition, it seems inevitable that the BJP will achieve majority in the Rajya Sabha as well.
Even though as a supporter of the Prime Minister and his work, I am happy that the people still have faith in the Government but it is equally important that in a democracy there should be a strong opposition. It is high time the opposition especially the Congress focus on themselves and bring drastic changes especially in their leadership. The BJP would love to see Rahul Gandhi continue as the leader of the Congress but I believe for the nation it is high time we get a leader who has the competence to understand issues that concern the public and address them. For now it is the BJP on a high with their next target being West Bengal elections which will be coming in the next 7 months. They have a feisty leader Mamata Banerjee in front of them who will definitely put up a fight. Get ready for some more fire works.
Jai Hind !!!

BJP wins 41 out of 59 bypoll seats, 31 at Cong’s expense
In a tidal sweep of byelections in seven out of 11 states, the BJP or an ally on Tuesday won 41 of the 59 seats at stake –– as many as 31 of them at Congress’s expense. Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat provided the big bang in this cracker of a pre-Diwali performance, with the saffron party wresting 26 seats from Congress in these two states alone. In Gujarat, BJP’s “double engine” steamrollered Congress in all eight seats to which bypolls were held, including five in Saurashtra and the tribal-dominated constituency of Dang. Five of the victors are turncoat Congress MLAs who had switched sides ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls. In the 182-member House, BJP now has 111 seats to Congress’s 65. Manipur was the third state where BJP scored a near-perfect 4 in Congress strongholds. The fifth Congress-held seat was captured by an independent.
Uttar Pradesh, too, played to BJP’s script, strengthening CM Yogi Adityanath’s hand with a six-on-six show in seats held by the party, including the Bangarmau constituency that rape and murder convict Kuldeep Singh Sengar used to represent. One of the BJP victors was the late cricketer-turned-politician Chetan Chauhan’s wife Sangeeta Chauhan, who won the Naugawan Sadat seat that fell vacant when her husband died after a bout of Covid-19 in August. The Samajwadi Party narrowly retained the seventh UP seat that went to poll, maintaining status quo in the assembly. BJP continued its march in Karnataka, wresting the Sira seat from JD(S) and RR Nagar from Congress to silence CM BS Yediyurappa’s detractors and possibly put a lid on talk of a leadership change. As in Gujarat, voters re-elected a turncoat Congress MLA contesting the RR Nagar seat on a BJP ticket. Winner N Munirathna’s resignation after crossing over had necessitated the bypoll. The saffron party’s strength in the House now stands at 119, while Congress has 67 and JD(S) 33 MLAs.
In Telangana, BJP engineered a coup of sorts when its candidate M Raghunandan Rao beat the Chandrashekar Rao-led TRS’s nominee Solipeta Sujatha by a wafer-thin margin of 1,079 votes in the Dubbak byelection. For Raghunandan, it was fourth time lucky in Dubbak after thrice ending up on the losing side. Sources said the verdict could well be an affirmation of how Telangana’s future politics will play out, with BJP replacing Congress as the main opposition party in the state. The first sign of this was BJP winning four seats for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. In MP, 18 of the 19 seats won by BJP were those that Congress lost. For the grand old party, the big gain was in Chhattisgarh, where it wrested the Marwahi (ST) seat — a stronghold of the Ajit Jogi family for almost two decades. Dr Krishna Kumar Dhruw defeated BJP’s Dr Gambhir Singh by over 38,197 votes there. The nearly 25% difference in vote share told the story — while ruling Congress got 56% votes, BJP managed 30.4%. With this win, Congress now has 70 seats in the 90-member assembly after winning the Dantewada and Chitrakot (ST) byelection in September last year. One of the two Nagaland seats that went to poll was won by NDPP, a BJP ally. The other went to an independent.
