TMNT FIC RECS
I got someone asking to recommend some angst TMNT fics so I decided to make a list of my own! Iâll recommend some of my favourite fics then a few of mine for those that havenât read them :)
NOTE - Iâm such a Mikey fan that almost all of these are Mikey-centric angst, my bad. Still very very good. Top tier shit:
Ok so Iâm going to cut this because this list is massive, please keep reading!!
NOT MY FICS:
Feed Me Poison âTil I Drown (TMNT 2007, All Media Types)
Summary: Mikeyâs tired of not being taken seriously by his brothers. Karai is very persuasive. As such, Mikey joins the Foot clanâŠmere months after Leo is sent away for training.
Notes: This is wonderfully written. A what if based on a cancelled TMNT 2 sequel where Mikey joins The Foot due to him feeling unappreciated and a burden. I personally love a unreliable narrator, and this captures that perfectly - you donât know whether Mikey is being manipulated, or whether his actions (and how antagonistic they get) are of his own free will and not brainwashing. Chefs kiss. (Ao3)
All works by Justalittleobsessed.
All of them are perfect angst ranging from mild injury to absolute gut wrenching angst. Please check all of them out, they are some of my favourites for sure. (Ao3)
Radio Silence (All Media Types)
Summary: Mikey isnât answering his shell cell, which isnât like him, prompting his brothers to go look for him; Mikey has no idea whatâs going on, but the rain is making nice sounds and moving hurts and there are noises coming from his shell cell that he should probably pay attention to.
Notes: Less angst and more hurt in this one, but still brilliant on capturing exactly how it feels to wake up from a serious injury, alone and confused. Perfectly describes shock and has a decent dosage of comfort after. (Ao3)
Missing Comedic Relief (TMNT 2003, All Media Types)
Summary: Michelangelo is the light of the family, he's always cracking jokes no matter what situation they're in. His family doesn't realize it, but his jokes help keep up the team moral. They always break the tension and make it easier to do what they need to do. So when Mikey isn't part of a mission, his family can't help but notice how empty their team felt. To make matters worse, the reason Mikey isn't part of their mission was because he was missing.
Notes: I love this one because the amount of emotional angst from the brothers not knowing where Mikey is and missing what he means to each of them is just amazingly written. The brothers donât know where Mikey is but know heâs hurt and in trouble, and it largely follows their point of view as they search everywhere for him. Mikey himself suffers quite a bit too (cage fighting against a bunch of Purple Dragons, not fun) and it ends with comfort! Huzzah! (Ao3)
The T Subjects (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Mikey and Don face their worst fears when they're separated from their brothers by ruthless scientists.
Notes: If you want angst, this is the place to go, seriously. Explores the terrifying reality of what would happen when any of the turtles get captured by scientists who want nothing more than to study them. Itâs heartbreaking reading about how Donnie is trying to keep it together for Mikey, but ultimately fails when he is separated from his youngest brother. And Mikey - god, he goes through it too much. His childlike faith in Donnie and genuine fear is written so well.
I will note that this is private, so you can only read it if you have an ao3 account.
Iâve Been Afraid of Changing (TMNT 2007, though can be read as general)
Summary: âYou canât make me go,â Mikey blurts, too loud. âI wonât. I donât want to.â
âJesus,â Donnie mutters, rubbing his forehead. Heâs already so fed-up with Mikey after like three seconds of conversation that Mikey can feel his eyes start to sting. âThe last thing I want to do is fight with you, Mike. I thought you liked Cowabunga Carl.â
Itâs not fair. Donnieâs so smart. Heâs tired and overworked and unhappy, but heâs smart. How can he get this one thing so wrong? How can he not know Mikey as well as he used to, like all of those years of being each otherâs best friends and co-conspirators and secret-keepers from where they were relegated to the âB Teamâ arenât as intrinsic and important and fundamental to him as they are to Mikey? How can he look at Mikey, right in the face, and not understand him at all? Something breaks.
Notes: a kind of AU of the TMNT 2007 movie where Mikey develops depression/has a mental breakdown due to how the other brothers have drifted apart. His birthday is forgotten, Donnie and Raph keep fighting, he hates his job - and he canât take it anymore. Itâs horrible reading Mikeyâs breakdown, but it ends on a much happier note! If you want emotional angst this is FULL of it. (Ao3)
Nothing is Ever Simple (TMNT 2003, All Media Types)
Summary: When breaking up an arms' deal goes bad, Mikey is taken and Raphael is on the trail of his brother's kidnappers. You don't mess with family.
Notes: Mikey gets kidnapped and Raph is left following a small trail to find him. This fic is one of my favourites because of the way it focuses a lot on Raph and his own personal demons, and how much Mikey means to him. Also, Mikey gets tortured in a twisted way, and seeing him never give in is always a plus in the old angst book. Overall, though it seems itâs about Mikey itâs mostly about Raph. His own reflections, fears and loyalties to family. (Ao3)
Never Really Over (ROTTMNT)
What appears to be another routine Purple Dragons bust takes a devastating turn when one of the brothers gets infected with leftover krang sludge. Or; kraangified Mikey
Notes: what can I say about this one apart from Mikey gets kraangified. Itâs peak angst, I promise. Absolutely amazing, read it. (Ao3)
Thatâs where the blood is supposed to be! (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Sometimes, you just get hit a little too hard (aka: mikey blames everything on low blood sugar for ~4K words)
Notes: Mikey is seriously injured but doesnât tell anyone due to the high tensions between Raph and Leo. Come on - physical and emotional angst? Sign me up! Very good and accurate descriptions of injury and gore, and the build up of this one is just perfect. You know something is horribly wrong, and itâs torture. Poor Mikey. (Ao3)
A Change In Outbreak (TMNT 2003)
Summary: Shredder showed us that there are there infinite number of realities, thousands of dimension and each of them differ from the last when it came to the turtle brothers. This one is no different then the one we've known our Turtles to be part of, however there is one little detail, one small thing that's different. Instead of Donnie getting mutated, it's Mikey.
Notes: long time fans probably all know about this fanfic, itâs a classic! Based on the original idea that Mikey would be double mutated in the Good Genes arc rather than Donnie, it retells the events if Mikey had indeed been infected. It keeps it fresh by adding new elements and plot points, as well as a lot of angst surrounding the brothers after seeing their youngest and heart be reduced to a monster. Plenty of emotional and physical angst all round, itâs perfect. (Ao3)
Heated Arguments Donât Warm a Frozen Family (TMNT 2003, All Media Types)
Summary: âHeâs gotta be around here somewhere, I just kno-â he suddenly tripped over an object buried in the snow.
âGaH!â Leo shuddered, pulling himself up quickly and brushing off the cold substance.
âLeo???â
Looking back to see what it was that caused his fall, his heart nearly launched into his throat. âOh no.â
âLeo, whatâs wrong?!â Raphâs voice echoed again from the phone.
Leo got onto his knees, ignoring the cold snow that he initially was avoiding. He anxiously brushed away a few inches of loose fluffy snow to see the familiar pattern of a shell. âShit-â He muttered under his breath âGet Donnie and come to my location now!â
âWhatâs going on?! Weâre on our way now!â Raph sounded like he was already running.
âI found Mikey.â Leoâs voice cracked as he hung up the phone before Raphael could respond.
Notes: one of the first fics I read on this fandom and still one of my favourites. Lots of emotional and physical, Mikey centric angst in this one! (Ao3)
Everything by BrightLotusMoon
Seriously, they got me into this fandom from a casual watcher to artist and fanfic writer! Full of Mikey angst, and creator of the Empath! Mikey head cannon that lives rent free in my head and has inspired many of my own material! Read them all, theyâre all bangers.
Revenge Always Tastes Sweet (But the Aftertaste is Bitter (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Actions have consequences and they come back with a vengeance when it's least expected. A trip to the Hidden City gives one of the brothers a taste of just how deadly making enemies with a yokai can be.
Notes: What, not Mikey angst?? Not this time - Donnie gets the full angst attack when he gets poisoned from an unknown enemy. Lots of well described hurt, end it has a happy ending! (Ao3)
Hyperactive Hyperthermia (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Snow day ruined for the second year in a row! They had expected a break, but they really couldn't ever catch one. How could they have known mystic fire was so uncontrollable?Maybe standing on the ice lake was the first bad idea.
---
OR: The brothers go out for a snow day, but it quickly goes south after multiple avalanches and other shenanigans leaves Mikey without any winter clothing and trapped with Donnie under the snow.
Notes: this oneâŠthis one is heartbreaking, honestly. You have to read about Donnie being trapped with a freezing Mikey, and he knows this but is helpless to do anything but watch it happen. The emotional angst in this kicks you deep in the gut, itâs terrible I love it. (ao3)
Nowhere Boy (TMNT 2003, can be read as general)
Summary: He was twelve years old, and he realized that his dreams were always the same. Every single one. "We need you. We'll find you," those indistinct figures would say, their eyes glinting in the darkness, shadows stretching out to him like hands. But he always woke up before they reached him.
Notes: I LOVE this one. It has lived with me ever since I read it, something about it is so heartbreaking. It explores the feeling of being lost despite not knowing why, and how much you miss someone despite never knowing them. It actually inspired a fic of my own, which I will link in my own fics list. I donât want to spoil it, but please read it. Mikey centric angst heaven (ao3)
Unfamiliar Familiar (ROTTMNT/TMNT 2012 Crossover)
Summary: What the hell is Michelangelo supposed to do? Having woken up in a strange world with new brothers? Why is everyone here so nice? Why wonât they let him leave? The Rise brothers stumble upon a traumatized Mikey, and when they learn the reason behind all that trauma, there is no way theyâll let him experience that again.
TLDR: Rise brothers adopt 2012 Mikey
Notes: I am a sucker for slight 2012 bashing and this one fulfils it without being overly mean. 2012 Mikey has been traumatised by his brothers and his enemies, and finally gets the chance to heal and start again when he is thrown into the rise universe. Very popular fic, I highly suggest you read it despite it not being complete. So much emotional angst I swear. (Ao3)
Going under (ROTTMNT)
Summary: âHave a pleasant swim, little turtle!â they snicker.
Mikeyâs eyes widen.
âNO!â
Then, he feels weightless.
Heâs falling.
And falling.
And then â
His body hits the water with a loud splash and his vision flashes white.
Notes: Mikey almost drowns. Peak angst. (Ao3)
Sunshine in the Rain (ROTTMNT)
Summary: After a mission gone wrong, Michelangelo is taken by a government scientist named Bishop, how will he respond to this new environment, and more importantly, will his brothers be able to save him before he breaks? Let the game begin.
Notes: Mikey sacrificing himself to save his brothers from Bishop? Yes please, and thank you author. Seriously, this has it all - introducing Bishop in the rise universe, and Leatherhead! Of course, lots of angst in the form of experimentation. But thatâs what weâre here for, right? (Ao3)
Quicksand (All Media Types)
Summary: Trapped in darkness, no one can hear you, no one can see you, no one knows where you are. The cold lingers, the fear rises, who will help us? Who even knows we are down here? The only people who might know are probably dead. Help us, someone please helpâŠ
Notes: Mikey and Donnie get trapped in a collapsing lair when earthquakes year apart their home. Leo and Raph are the only ones that can get to them, but the snow storm is stopping them. This is so brutal in the way NO ONE gets a break, the angst just keeps coming. Everyone gets it. I love it. Read it (fanfiction.net)
Ghosts of New York Past (TMNT 2003)
Summary: The turtles and Splinter have been transported 100 years into the future through Cody Jones' time window. Future New York is a lot to take in. But when the dust settles and the sun goes down, the big unanswered question is still there: how are they supposed to fit into a time that doesn't belong to them?
Notes: light angst, exploring the more emotional and wise side of Mikey that we donât see often in the show. (Fanfiction.net)
Questioning Choices (TMNT 2003, All Media Types)
Summary: A fun family trip to the beach turns ugly when Michelangelo is injured and his brothers have to make difficult decisions that go against their morals in order to save him.
Notes: I donât know why but I love this one too much. Mikeâs slowly getting worked whilst the brothers have to go against their morals and steal from an ambulance? Perfection. (fanfiction.net)
Suffered to Slumber (All Media Types)
Summary: "Breathe quick, breathe slow, put the gun in your mouth and pull the trigger. Any way you like, you're gonna die down here."
Notes: this one is also BRUTAL. Mikey getting buried alive? Itâs all the angst you think and somehow more.
The Most Wonderful Time of the Year (TMNT 2003)
Summary: What was supposed to be a pleasant Christmas Eve with family and friends suddenly turns to one of terror and uncertainty for the turtles. Will they make it through this Christmas together? Or will one fall?
Notes: one of my favourites. Mikey canât keep out of trouble on Christmas Eve, and ends up paying the price this time. (Fanfiction.net)
Itâs Much More Complicated (All Media Types)
Summary: After a late night patrol, Mikey falls ill. At first it's nothing to worry about, but something that seemed to be harmless turns into a race of life and death.
Notes: we love our favourite character getting deadly sick
An Agonising Secret (All Media Types)
Summary: Mikey tries to hide an injury from his brothers, but soon discovers that it wasn't as harmless as he thought it was...
Notes: more hidden injury? Yes please. I highly suggest look at this authors other works as well, lots of angst
Underdark (TMNT 2003, can he read as general)
Summary: He's hanging upside down in the middle of the great underdark, weighed down by a half hysterical turtle in the middle of a bunch of pipes and water and rock that are conspiring to kill us both off, and Leo still manages to sound like he Has A Plan.
Notes: do I need to even introduce this classic? Everyone knows it, itâs amazing.
MY OWN FICS
Helpless (TMNT 2003):
Summary: âNo one comes. No one swoops in at the last second, nor does he manage to break the cuffs at the perfect moment. Instead, there is a collective shriek from the beasts below him as they all lunge forward in a hungered wave, their curled claws scraping against his scales and hideous jaws dripping with froth and drool.
Heart racing, Michelangelo hisses at the rodents. However, his warning is ignored by their destructive hunger. The hiss cuts off into a yelp when the first rat bites down on the exposed area between his skin and his shell, its grimy paws digging the pink flesh underneath away.â
What if, in the episode I, Monster, Mikey didnât get out of the restraints in time? What if he was left, helpless against hoards of rats with no one to help?
TLDR: Mikey gets attacked by rats. It doesnât end well. What can I say, Iâm in a horror mood.
Iâm Lost (But I Donât Know Why) (TMNT 2003)
Summary: âHe is mourning the loss of someone he never knew, doesnât know, but it hurts all the same. He thinks back to the nunchucks, and the orange tape wrapped around them. The comic books hidden under the couch. The extra plate that he sets up everyday, has been for the past three weeks. The gap in their formation.
Missing, missing, missing, his mind chants, but he canât know what. Heâs lost, and canât remember why.â
There have always been four of them - Donatello, Raphael, himself and his father. Or at least, thatâs what Leonardo had thought. But something is missing. They are mourning the loss of another they have never even known. They are lost. But why?
TLDR: a curse makes everyone forget Michelangelo. Leonardo knows thereâs something missing, but he doesnât know why.
All I Ever Wanted (TMNT 2003)
Summary: Donatello vowed that the future he had seen would never occur. He wouldnât let it. But heâs failed. Heâs failed, because Mikey is bleeding out beneath him, his arm severed under a stormy sky. And no help is coming in time.
TLDR: Perhaps the future will not repeat itself, but it can rhyme. How Mikey, despite Donatelloâs efforts, loses his arm in the cannon timeline.
Hunted (TMNT 2003, can be read as general)
Summary: What starts out as a late night adventure in the woods beside the farmhouse turns deadly when a group of hunters catch Mikey off guard. Alone and wounded, Mikey struggles to find his way to safety.
TLDR: Mikey is chased by a group of hunters with no way to contact his brothers.
The Shoebox (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Post âSnow Dayâ, Mikey tearing his coat has drastic consequences that result in him freezing and slipping into brumation.
TLDR: Box turtles, when hibernating, can have no detectable pulse or heartbeat. None of Mikeyâs brothers are aware of this and believe that they have just watched their youngest brother die.
Donât Wander Off (Stay Where You Are) (ROTTMNT)
Summary: Box turtles will keep walking in attempt to find their home if they ever get lost, even if they die doing it. Mikey shares that same instinct.
When he gets lost, he keeps walking. He finds home.
TLDR: Mikey centric angst where he keeps walking despite growing weaker.
Promise (ROTTMNT)
Summary: After the events of the movie, Mikey discovers that, with the increase in his mystic power, he gains the ability to see the future. However, every time he does, he forgets some of his present.
Year after year, a gift twists into a curse, crumbling the relationships between brothers and ultimately ending in a terrible price. But Mikey made a promise all those years ago, and intends to keep it.
TLDR: Mikey sees the future until he forgets everything of his present.
Vs The World (ROTTMNT)
Summary: The Kraang almost-invasion has been hard on the entire family. Michelangelo knows this, and knows he needs to be the one that keeps them all together, like stubborn orange glue.
But his brothers arenât talking. They arenât leaving their rooms, trapped in their own traumas. Mikey tries - so, so hard - but the silence is suffocating. He leaves the lair, only to find a stray cat left for dead. And suddenly, he isnât alone anymore. But he is still breaking, slowly.
TLDR: Mikey find Klunk in the Rise universe whilst dealing with trauma and depression. I am bad at summaries, so give it a quick read if you want.
Wow, this is long. Happy reading @nat06cas, @brightlotusmoon and @sparklingsunkissedsoul and everyone else!

Warm Up With a Good Book: Heartwarming Story Recommendations
Dewey by Vicki Myron
How much of an impact can an animal have? How many lives can one cat touch? How is it possible for an abandoned kitten to transform a small library, save a classic American town, and eventually become famous around the world? You can't even begin to answer those questions until you hear the charming story of Dewey Readmore Books, the beloved library cat of Spencer, Iowa.
Dewey's story starts in the worst possible way. Only a few weeks old, on the coldest night of the year, he was stuffed into the returned book slot at the Spencer Public Library. He was found the next morning by library director, Vicki Myron, a single mother who had survived the loss of her family farm, a breast cancer scare, and an alcoholic husband. Dewey won her heart, and the hearts of the staff, by pulling himself up and hobbling on frostbitten feet to nudge each of them in a gesture of thanks and love. For the next nineteen years, he never stopped charming the people of Spencer with his enthusiasm, warmth, humility, (for a cat) and, above all, his sixth sense about who needed him most.
As his fame grew from town to town, then state to state, and finally, amazingly, worldwide, Dewey became more than just a friend; he became a source of pride for an extraordinary Heartland farming town pulling its way slowly back from the greatest crisis in its long history.
Come Rain or Come Shine by Jan Karon
Over the course of ten Mitford novels, fans have kept a special place in their hearts for Dooley Kavanagh, first seen in At Home in Mitford as a barefoot, freckle-faced boy in filthy overalls.
Now, Father Tim Kavanagh's adopted son has graduated from vet school and opened his own animal clinic. Since money will be tight for a while, maybe he and Lace Harper, his once and future soul mate, should keep their wedding simple.
So the plan is to eliminate the cost of catering and do potluck. Ought to be fun. An old friend offers to bring his well-known country band. Gratis. And once mucked out, the barn works as a perfect venue for seating family and friends. Piece of cake, right?
In Come Rain or Come Shine, Jan Karon delivers the wedding that millions of Mitford fans have waited for. Itâs a June day in the mountains, with more than a few creatures great and small, and youâre invited - because youâre family.
This is the 13th volume of the âMitford Yearsâ series.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows
January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man sheâs never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb...
As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends - and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island - boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.
Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the societyâs members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina GeorgeÂ
Monsieur Perdu calls himself a literary apothecary. From his floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine, he prescribes novels for the hardships of life. Using his intuitive feel for the exact book a reader needs, Perdu mends broken hearts and souls. The only person he can't seem to heal through literature is himself; he's still haunted by heartbreak after his great love disappeared. She left him with only a letter, which he has never opened.
After Perdu is finally tempted to read the letter, he hauls anchor and departs on a mission to the south of France, hoping to make peace with his loss and discover the end of the story. Joined by a bestselling but blocked author and a lovelorn Italian chef, Perdu travels along the countryâs rivers, dispensing his wisdom and his books, showing that the literary world can take the human soul on a journey to heal itself.

The Wedding- The Ceremony
It was a beautiful ceremony, honestly. The setting was perfect- it damn well should be by this point- an indoor wedding venue centered around a pair of tall male ginkgo trees, rising from a single rootstock, but split into these majestic giants. There were artificial stars, a field, enchantment and illusion and decorations and cake...
Bells waited by the roots of the tree, watching with little reaction as the guests came. To be honest they probably missed half of them.
Still they came- Dragon first, offering final checks of everything. Alun, PB, Elio, and MV, baby Nexus in tow, soon after. All dressed wonderfully, having crossed multiverses to be there, at the wedding of their non/grandnon/possibly future non.
Then, Nintendo, and Archer... the one, their oldest friend/slash brother, the other impossible cuteness of a young bab.
Bells wears a pretty, starry pants dress that their fiance had stolen for them, a starry cape painted into shifting movement by their brother, and a circlet of blue, bells, and apples, gifted by a... friend? Probably. Raine and Eden wait excitedly, along with a twin pair of lamia.
Next to arrive? Candy, in a shower of purple sparkles. Because why not? A bitty comes soon after, glasses and phantom wings, with bones stained of corruption and gold. He hides in the tree, and watches.
Juice arrives, his newly hatched togepi in hand, and seeks out Nintendo, offering teases and stirring rainbow blush from his lover. Erebus, dark, dangerous, and cocky, arrives in perfect dress, the embodiment of power, beauty, and corruption.
A skeleton in a sparkling lab coat, the groom's brother at his side, who nervously keeps his four smols near. Lark arrives as well... no one knows how, and at this point no one questions it.
Bells' mother, Blue, arrives bitty sized and alone, and promptly hides, until the rest of the bitties arrives- Huitzi, Flare, Magnus, Paladin, Mercury, Jabber, Beryl, Gold, Domino, and Licorice- who they quickly join. One 'bitty' hides, the parasite aware his radicalness is rarely welcome.
Feather arrives, in a poofy purple dress just a bit too big for them, waving to everyone they know- which, is almost everyone, honestly. Gregarious child.
...Then, finally, arrives the groom. Gray, starlight, and shadows, in a perfectly fitted suit, wings and tendrils, and a single blue eyelight taking everything in- the rest of the children arrive with him, Mea in particular running to tackle an excited Raine, and his ragtag band of 'bad sanses' all take their place on the groom's side.
It's so simple. So perfect. The scientist in the fancy lab coat says some words. His boyfriend watches, hidden in branches just out of sight, wanting to be here, but also to avoid those here who shared a life that he's forgotten.
Greylu presses a kiss to Bells mouth, onlookers be damned.
The ceremony begins.
"We are all gathered here today to witness and honor the marriage of Bells and Greylu, last names currently pending. This has been a long time coming, and I'm glad to see everything finally come to fruition."
"Do you take Bells as your spouse for as long as the both of you live, or until otherwise desired?"
Greylu doesn't hesitate, assuring he does, no place in his answer for doubt.
"Alright. Bells? Do you take Greylu as your husband, also for as long as you both live- or it is otherwise desired?"
Bells assures they take him for as long as they exist. Because undead. So-
"Alright then, if anyone has any objections, let them speak now, or forever hold their peace."
...no objections come, despite some who may object in their own soul. Some are joyous, others resigned. Few at least are bored.
Greylu is relieved. Bells relaxes.
"Alright, now that we have that out of the way-"
Rings are produced, black goldstone bands, like a night sky filled with stars. "I now pronounce you newlyweds. You the kiss- uh, each other."
They do. Whispers of mine, of beloved, and of I love yous.
Amazingly, the wedding has gone off without a hitch, not one single disaster.
...Obviously, the omniverse being what it is, this wouldn't last long. But at least that part went well.

Ranking Every Roxette Song, #102-104
104. Good Karma
from Good Karma
This is the big one, the giant to tame. When I made the questionable decision of reading TDRâs review of Good Karma before listening to the album itself, this was the song that stood out, receiving glowing praise that promised something so great that we hadn't heard the likes of it from Marie and Per for decades. I shouldn't have read that review, but just couldn't wait, Good Karma being the first Rox album release that I'd followed properly. The introduction bodes well for all that promise, with a huge pairing of "Fading Like A Flower"-like piano and guitar, even more forceful than before. Quickly switching to a minimalistic EDM beat, it continues with one of the changes that make this feel more like a marriage of two disparate songs than a progression that builds some sort of drama. The production is full of synth after synth flashing in and out of sight like sea spray on the side of a ship, never giving us a chance to look at them but still allowing the feeling of frantic motion to come across. It ends up a beautiful sonic picture, but then the chorus comes in. The bombast of the guitars, bubbly bass, unhinged synths, cowbell and Marie together is a sudden surge that should feel absolutely huge. Somehow, it doesnât connect with the rest of the songâs sections for me as well as it obviously should, and that always leaves me conflicted when listening. On one hand, itâs the point of this absolutely slamming chorus to provide a sudden change from the atmospherics of the verses; on the other, its production is also so huge and powerful that it doesnât move as well as it could have done, had there been a more fluid groove under the guitars. Still, though in my view the bits of âGood Karmaâ donât flow together amazingly well, there is a Son Of A Plumber-like old-fashioned bridge in the middle of the thing, and itâs gorgeous. Reading TDRâs reactions back in 2016 did hurt me in the end - it could have been as fantastic as they said, but remains just a great effort on everyoneâs part that I will undoubtedly go back to sometimes.
103. Bringing Me Down To My Knees
from Room Service
Thereâs been a few songs in Per Gessleâs career that have been said (sometimes by him) to sound as if heâd written them in his sleep, or at least when woken up in the middle of the night. And that, I think, is absolutely a compliment - whether itâs âGut Feelingâ, âVilket hĂ„ll du Ă€n gĂ„râ, âBig Black Cadillacâ, or this one, theyâre very immediate, simple and very him. If the world had let them get their way, Roxette would have been able to churn out songs like this forever without them getting any less lovely. More than anything, âBringing Me Down To My Kneesâ is comforting. It opens with a warm line that combines guitar and synth to wind around the opening chords like the sonic equivalent of a wide smile, which is then encased loosely in the blanket of the production. That simple sine-wave sound kept popping up in Per's material almost non-stop around this time. The instruments are all bubbly, amber-coloured substances from the lab where songs are grown, and itâs functioning at full normalcy here, with new melodies and synth swells constantly rising from the vials, expanding and then falling peacefully. Marie is comfortable and earnest, making the song speak magnificently as usual and only ever finding any vocal intensity a few times. There is an acoustic guitar solo over a middle 8 that also can't be called one of the most ambitious ever, but that too works in its favour - itâs so completely effortless. The Backstreet Boys would have been mightily jealous of it, had they ever taken the time to listen to Room Service during breaks between choreography rehearsals and being fleeced by their fraudulent manager. The post-chorus string line in this is brilliant too, providing the same sort of reassuring simplicity. Thatâs the thing here, so much is achieved by trying so little that thinking about why it works can only confuse you further. Just like the song says, you canât put your finger on it, itâs only possible to enjoy the ride and listen to several masters of the craft go relaxedly about their work.
102. Half A Woman, Half A Shadow
from Look Sharp!
Marieâs songs are always special points on Roxetteâs albums. Thereâs not ever that many of them, but they do stand out from the surrounding crowd, with a different tinge to how the chord voicings, harmonies and melodies are put together. Though the lyrics to this one are again of Mr. Gâs creation, you can very much tell that all around and underneath them is something different. Marieâs sophisticated harmonies are all over this, not just in the layering of voice but in the overlapping synths and guitar arpeggios that spell out big chords, as well as the dreamy pianos that come in later on. Itâs all very much a sparkling new locomotive barreling confidently through a twilit misty morning landscape, and underneath this sheen there is the massive beat carrying the two awesome lead guitar lines. It does remind me a bit of âIf She Knew What She Wantsâ by the Bangles, but slowed down, brightened, psyched up and made absolutely huge through Clarence Ofwermanâs magic production and Jonas Isaacsonâs massive guitars. I donât know how he does it, but an absolutely perfect image of a cold sun looming nearer over the horizon is conjured up in his solo. The ending is a wonderfully trippy experience too, with gratuitously phased and flanged sounds all smudging and washing down into the cold earth. In this song we find not so much half a woman as a crowd of them, with a corresponding amount of shadows, all blasting their way through the rain, away from a past that deserves no further thought. Itâs such a powerful sound that itâs easy to envision a song like this becoming a lesser bandâs only hit, sometime in the spring of 1987, to be longingly relistened to for decades thereafter by a few thousand loyal fans, wishing more people had remembered it. But this is Roxette, and even though I love this song, evidently it hasnât even made my top 100 (though I do, of course, also wish more people listened to this song). Iâm not really looking for moderation in explaining why I love the songs on this list, so be ready, folks, because it keeps getting even better from here on.

Betty & Veronica Friends Forever Halloween Spooktacular #1
Betty and Veronica Friends Forever Halloween Spooktacular #1 Archie Comics 2021 Written by Francis Bonnet, Frank Doyle, Bill Golliher & George Gladir Pencilled by Dan Parent, Dan DeCarlo, Rex Lindsey & Stan Goldberg Inked by Bob Smith, Alison Flood, Jon DâAgostino, Chic Stone Coloured by Glenn Whitmore & Barry Grossman Lettered by Jack Morelli & Bill Yoshida   Betty & Veronica are here with some spooky stories to get you into the Halloween spirit, including a BRAND-NEW story! In âBest Witches,â while out shopping for their Halloween costumes, Betty and Veronica find an old witchâs hat at a thrift store. Thinking it would be perfect for her costume, Veronica buys it and puts it on. When she wishes that Archie was there and then he magically appears, they realize the hat is magic! What will Betty and Veronica do next with this newfound power?   Iâm telling you people that if you arenât picking up these books then you are missing out on some truly extraordinary storytelling.  Usually these are all reprints but we get an all-new original story and itâs a hoot thatâs for sure.  This is the kind of book that can turn a gray sky blue, it really has that honest gosh darn good time feeling that comes from reading it.  Archie has the ability to really put that smile on your face and is great to read anytime day, night, sun, rain, snow or whatnot.    Iâm a huge fan of the way that this is being told.  There are four stories in this issue and each one is impeccably rendered through the story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information.  The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter really makes their personalities shine.  The pacing is excellent and how it takes us through the pages introducing the stories, the characters and their work is amazingly well rendered.   I adore the fact that regardless of what era these stories come from, the look is so universal that youâd never know that four teams worked on these.  The linework is clean, crisp and strong and how the varying weights are utilised to create the detail work that we see throughout the book is wonderfully done.  How we see backgrounds being utilised to enhance and expand the moments as well as how they work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story is magnificently rendered.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show some remarkable sets of eyes for storytelling.  Also that the work with pencils and inkers being done by different folks is so seamless it really is kind of a trademark for Archie.  The colour work we see through the various hues and tones within the colours creating the shading highlights and shadow work is expertly rendered.  Which is saying something since most of this is really just mostly solid packed in colour and how we see it with the linework to change the hues is stupendous.   I love that the range of stories that we see within this book is diverse.  I mean one could fit into a House of Mystery style book, and no Sabrina isnât in that one, and that alone is kind of groundbreaking for Archie.  The Sabrina costume part is amazing in itself, itâs an older tale as well, as it just features costumes of the kids being more varied and innocent, think Flintstones or Jetsons inspired.  Wholesome is something we could easily apply to Archie but with a modern edge, okay for those time periods it holds true and even by todayâs standards as well.  â   Yes we see the normal Archie hijinx within these pages as well and how things happen with mistaken identity or even wrong place at the wrong time, I love Jughead, which of course creates something to be worried by and laughed with.  With equal parts our favourite best friends and Sabrinaâs tales this manages to capture a lot of aspects of Halloween in the fan favourite Archie tradition.  I love this series of one-shot as they make me smile, brighten my mood and help me forget my troubles for a bit.

Hogwarts Houses, as described by outsiders
Gryffindor
Tory: I find Gryffindors to be some of the most wonderfully assertive people Iâve ever met -- whereas I always worry about offending people or getting myself hurt, you guys just face conflict head-on without fear! You also tend to be the first people to go help people who are being bullied or are in trouble. Sometimes you guys can frustrate me with your lack of foresight and patience, and sometimes I find Gryffindors have a very black-and-white way of thinking, but you never rest on your laurels and youâre so proactive it is inspiring.
Jinxy: For me, Gryffindors have always seemed like quite an extroverted bunch. They seem like the type of people who have large friends groups and can get a conversation going with just about anyone. No fear. Theyâre the ones who arenât afraid to sing out loud to their favorite song in the middle of a crowded roomâthey donât care much about what others think of them (which is really admirable). I think of Gryffindor as the Hufflepuff opposite: the thunderstorm against the gentle rain. In no way is that a bad thing! Gryffindors are people who push themselves to the limit just to see if they can do it, they smile and laugh, and live life. I think that itâs great that we live in a world with Gryffindors, and, I think, it would be a very quiet here without them.
Abigaill: Aww, sweet backup house. This is the house where many of my friends originate. Gryffindors are crazy. Most are always willing to stand up for others and are extremely kind. Though they tend to be.. a little... Stubborn. Through all of it they are so worth it. Gryffindors, really donât seem to be afraid of anything, and even if they are they donât show it. They seem to always have confidence in themselves, and they work really hard to be on there own team, because they tend to struggle a bit with teamwork. But in the end go go Gryff Gryffâs yâall are pretty amazing and I am proud of you awesome peeps.Â
Hufflepuff
Olga: My best friend is a Hufflepuff. Sheâs one of the most sensible and dear people I know. Even though she doesnât appear to be the most sociable person she still is very charming and wins people over without even trying. Avoiding conflicts and making peace are her main goals when it comes to getting along with others. With Hufflepuffâs itâs about to save every person no matter what that person did. The past doesnât matter for them and itâs only the present and future that counts. While they seem to be quite optimistic when talking to/about others they might be a bit pessimistic when it comes to themselves because they often fear the unknown. Nevertheless they will always get up and try and do things because to them life is worth living and everything is worth taking another breath.
Tory: You guys are just the best friends a person could ask for!! All of the Hufflepuffs I have encountered are so amazingly modest, humble, and kind. You make it so much easier to be sociable and I always know I can come to you when I need help. I wish you guys would look after yourselves a bit more, though...you tend to look after everyone else and worry so much about what others think that you neglect your own well-being, and you more than deserve good treatment, by yourself if no one else.
Abigail: Hufflepuffâs are amazing, some of the kindest people I have ever met. This is the house that people who have just met me sort me into, kind of giving me a warped opinion on the idea of being a Puff, still not causing me to loose my love for the Hufflepuffs. Hufflepuffs are truly amazing, they are extremely kind and loyal. One of the first people I met who identified as a Hufflepuff, is extremely patient and took the time to break through my shell. They truly care so much about there fellow humans, no matter who they may be. The funny thing is Hufflepuffs do things out of pure kindness because they truly care and would never want anything bad to happen to anyone, some wonderful people, yâall are super cool!
Ravenclaw
Olga: It seems like this is the house that gets ignored the most. Ravenclaw - the outstanding and weird one that only reads and never socializes. Not true in the slightest. Their interest in mostly everything and their drive to learn makes them take risks and to get to know new people. Those Ravenclawâs who Iâve come to meet are people who are all about helping and growing along with otherâs. They donât necessarily want to become someone important. Itâs more about knowing that they have become who theyâve always wanted to be. They are very open-minded people and are willing to try everything as long as itâs safe. To them itâs about being self-assured and pleased with what theyâve achieved in life. They donât care about what otherâs think and they are proud like the eagle that they are.
Tory: When I was younger, I wanted to be in Ravenclaw, and although Iâve since discovered Iâd be a terrible match for your house and Iâm much better suited to Slytherin house, I still greatly admire your originality. You lot are so inventive and cerebral, and are easily the best problem solvers of anyone Iâve encountered. Sometimes you can be pacifistic to the extent that you detach yourself from uncomfortable situations or relationships, which isnât wise, and sometimes you can be overly focused on achievement and logic at the expense of everything else, but I feel proud to have as many family members among your ranks as I do!
Jinxy: Itâs funny, because I used to want to be a Ravenclaw too. I was always a âcolor blueâ sort of person and I did well in school, I thought it was the perfect fit. I learned quickly that both the Ravenclaw house and I are much more dimensional than a few simple attributes, and because of that, I realized that I was a much better Hufflepuff. To me, Ravenclaws are clean. Theyâve got their lives (or at least a part of their lives) together. They pursue dreams, constantly questioning and searching for answers. It doesnât matter what theyâre interested in, if itâs biology, or writing, or their bottle-cap collection, Ravenclaws will give their all to make sure that they learn or complete the job. To me, a Ravenclaw is someone who can make choices. Someone who can look at something and say, âThis is it. This is what I love.â
Slytherin
Olga: To me Slytherin is about the ability to stand out. Those who are sorted into this house are keen to make something of themselves, not to blend in and to achieve something great. They are hard workers and they deserve all the respect. Even if their methods can be questionable from time to time youâve still got to credit them for the effort and the thoughts they put into their actions. I accept their drive to do something extraordinary and even if they decide to go to the extremes to reach their goals I still think that this is their good right because for most of them itâs where you get and not how. Slytherins might appear to be lonerâs but from what Iâve noticed they are also good at adapting to situations and being quite selfless when it comes to people they really care about. Not only do they make good friends but they also help you to become more of the person youâve always wanted to be.
Jinxy: Slytherin has always been a hard house for me. Iâve never felt like I truly understood what it means to be a Slytherin. I donât truly have a concrete idea. The books, I think, contributed largely (due to the negative way they portrayed Slytherins), and because of that, Iâm going to take a slightly different route with this one. Slytherins are the type of people who go to aquariums to look at the octopuses and sharks. They reread favorite books on rainy days and own cats named after food items. Slytherins wear dark makeup because they forgot to lake it off before falling asleep, and decided to cover it up with a second layer. They share in the way siblings do: always requesting something in return, a trade. Slytherins have opinions (good, bad, that milky-in-between). I have two friends who are Slytherins, they both fall asleep quickly. So, allow me to break the formula of this post and ask you: Slytherins, can you all do that?Â
Abigail: For about two years of my life is was so sure that I was an undercover Slytherin, whenever I did something wrong, I felt like the only logical option for my Hogwarts house for Slytherin. Knowing now that I am far from Slytherin being my house, and I have a very different opinion of Slytherin. Slytherins are some of the most ambitious people I have ever met, and honestly seem to be quite inspiring to me, encourging me to move forward through my goals. One specific Slytherin I met my freshman year in High School happened to be one of the kindest people I have ever met. I kind of had this weird goal for a long time to be sorted into Slytherin, I always wanted to be the super cool bad ass Slytherin, and it took a long time for me to realize that I am not that at all. Honestly though, you Slytherins are super cool and I truly envy you in all honestly. GO YOU!

30 Suave Ash Brown Hair Shades
New Post has been published on http://healingawerness.com/getting-healthy/getting-healthy-women/30-suave-ash-brown-hair-shades/
30 Suave Ash Brown Hair Shades
Anjali Sayee December 11, 2018
Smokey brown, dusty brown and silver brown â these are some synonyms for the ash brown hair color that has taken over the world. Much like its blonde counterpart, ash brown hair wasnât popular back in the day. Over time, its smokey look appealed to women who wanted to look mysterious. Ash brown is one of the most versatile hair colors. It doesnât require much bleaching as you donât need your hair to go completely blonde. Itâs the perfect brunette-to-blonde transition color. Moreover, ash brown brings a glossy effect to your hair while adding more depth to it.
Here are a few things you need to know before you take the ash brown leap.
What You Need To Know About Ash Brown Hair
If you have blonde hair, transitioning to ash brown simply requires coloring your hair. Since your hair color is already light, taking on a darker shade is easy. In fact, if youâre dyeing your hair at home, the color on the box is the color your hair will take on if you apply it as per the instructions given.
If you have brown hair, you will have to apply a little bleach and variations of the ash shade, depending on how light or dark it is. Dark brown hair might require a little bleaching and a dark ash shade. Medium and light brown will only require an ashy brown color of your choice.
Black hair will need to be bleached since it is a dark color. But donât fret, you donât need to bleach it too much since youâre just shifting from black to brown and not blonde.
If you are dyeing your hair at home, I urge you to take safety precautions. Wear rubber gloves while applying the dye. Apply petroleum jelly all along your hairline so that the dye does not stain your skin. Wear old clothes that you donât mind staining and follow the instructions precisely.
If youâre not sure which shade will suit your skin tone, talk to a hairstylist. Itâs always good to get a professional opinion.
The best part about ash brown is that colors like rose gold, smoky blue, and denim mahogany really shine through when used for highlights. Ash brown, being a versatile color, adds a smoky effect to any hair color it is paired with. It also works amazingly well with pastel shades.
Now, letâs get to the part everyoneâs been waiting for. Without further ado, here are my top 30 picks for the best ash brown hair colors.
30 Suave Ash Brown Hair Shades
1. Dusty Ash Brownx
Instagram
This dusty ash brown hair is like green tea â it requires an acquired taste. To get this look, ask your hairstylist for a dusty ash brown balayage. Balayage is the technique used to color your hair freehand instead of with a brush.
2. Ash Brown Dimension
Instagram
Ash brown can add texture and volume to your locks. Add some light ash brown highlights to your locks to achieve this look. Style your hair in waves to make it bouncy and voluminous.
3. Cappuccino Ash Brown Hair
Instagram
Brunette-blonde contrast is trending right now. This could be because pastel and dusty shades are a win with the millennials. Opt for a muddy ash brown that fades into a dusty blonde shade to create this stunning hair look.
4. Glossy Dark Ash Brown
Instagram
Women always want their hair to look glossy. No amount of shine is ever too much. If you have thin hair, add some contrast to it with an ash brown hair color. Styling it straight at the top and curly at the bottom to liven it up.
5. Strawberry Ash Brown
Instagram
Have you ever worn a neutral-toned outfit and added a pop of red lipstick to realize that youâve found the perfect look? This strawberry ash brown blend is the hair rendition of that. A hint of strawberry blonde on ash brown hair is all you need to brighten up your locks.
6. Warm-Toned Ash Brown Blend
Instagram
A brunette-to-blonde ombre doesnât have to be dreary. Add some smokey ash blonde to transition from the dark brown roots to blonde ends. It looks perfect for the winter. The warm tone works well with colors like orange, yellow, and gold.
7. Deep Coffee Ash Brown
Instagram
Have you ever woken up to the smell of coffee in the morning? It always paves the way for my day. This deep coffee ash brown color reminds me of that. It adds a nice touch to the deeper hits of brown in your hair.
8. Light Ash Brown
Instagram
If youâve had brown hair all your life and want to transition to blonde, start off with this hair color. This light shade of ash brown resembles a dark dirty blonde shade, which is one of the trendiest blonde shades of our time.
9. Golden Ash Brown
Instagram
Gold â love it or hate it, it always makes an impression that is hard to look away from. You canât deny that this golden hue blended with ash brown looks royal. It makes your hair look rich and nourished.
10. Ash Brunette Dimension
Instagram
We know that there are many shades of brown: ash brown, medium brown, light, and dark brown. And letâs not forget strawberry brown and rose brown. The list goes on. Incorporating multiple shades of ash brown color can add dimension to your hair and make it look thicker.
11. Classic Ash Brown
Instagram
Ash brown hair is often called mousy hair as well. The infused ash color gives your brown locks a smokey look. Ideally, the classic smokey ash brown look is cool-toned, but you can also add warm colors to it to match your skinâs undertone.
12. Dark Ash Brown
Instagram
If your brown locks are as deep and dark as murky water, donât despair! Dark ash brown is cleverly mysterious. Adding ash to dark brown hair can give your hair a softer appearance, which, in turn, highlights your face shape and features.
13. Dark-To-Light Ash Ombre
Instagram
Ombre has been the leading hairstyle trend for quite some time now. Whether it is a cold winter or a blazing hot summer, you can find an ombre to make your mood a whole lot better. If you want that perfect sun-kissed look to flaunt at your vacation, try this ash brown ombre. It will glisten in the sun and make some heads turn!
14. Muddy Ash Brown
Instagram
The air is filled with petrichor or the smell right after it rains. This lovely marshy smell makes my heart happy. Reminisce on that with this wonderfully earthy ash brown hair color. It is ideal for fall.
15. Ash Brown Balayage
Instagram
It is a well-known fact that styling your hair in waves can make it look voluminous. Pair it with this lovely light ash brown blend, and youâve got yourself a winner. Itâs surprising what three colors like light brown, ash brown, and dark brown can do for your hair! Looks spectacular, doesnât it?
16. Sun-Kissed Ash Brown Hair
Instagram
Some of us plan our getaways just to get back with a tan and sun-kissed hair, so people can tell weâve been vacationing. This light ash brown hair color makes for the perfect âIâve-just-come-back-from-a-vacay-in-Fijiâ hair look. The waves that it has been styled in just adds to its appeal.
17. Winter Blend
Instagram
Deadvlei is one of the most picturesque places in the world. Situated in Namibia, it has dead brown trees on ashy sand. While it sounds ominous, it is anything but that (google it to see what I mean). The combination of dimensional brown trees on ashy sand can make for a stunning hair color mix. Try it!
18. Frosted Forest
Instagram
Have you ever seen a forest in the winter? You can see the brown of the bark peeking from underneath the snow. The wood itself is of different shades. Iâm sure that is what inspired this lovely frosted ash brown hair blend. Stunning, isnât it? The blonde tint looks like the sunâs rays. Perfect!
19. Champagne Ash Brown Balayage
Instagram
Champagne symbolizes celebration, and ash brown is a hair color that is worth celebrating! This lovely blend of dark brown and champagne blonde with ash brown hints is brilliant. It looks especially great with gold and nude makeup.
20. Pink Ash Brown
Instagram
Pastel pink is all the rage right now. Every woman wants it on her hair. If youâre like me, you donât want bright pink. I like a subtle pink that blends well with my brown locks. This picture just spoke to me. The pink is bright, but the ash brown smokes it out.
21. Light Versus Dark
Instagram
In the battle between light and dark, hair colors always win. Look at this hair color blend: light and dark ash brown combine to give your hair texture and volume. The dark roots accentuate the volume even more and make your face appear slender and long. The light locks add a lovely contrast and soften your face while focusing on facial features.
22. Snow Glazed Ash Brown
Instagram
An ash brown look accentuated with platinum blonde highlights is perfect for the winter. Platinum blonde highlights make the brunette color shine and add texture to the look. The light brown tresses give the look a warmth that would work well in winter.
23. Ash Tones
Instagram
Ash tones are the only acceptable fade out tones. They add drama to your hair with their smoked look. They appear faded out but highlight your natural hair color. If thereâs a hair color you want to try that is too bright, add some ash to it, and you will love the smokey color result.
24. Deep Ash Brown
Instagram
Ash brown hair is not a dull color. It looks intriguing and works well to accentuate other colors like the ginger brown you see here. Stunning!
25. Blonde Balayage
Instagram
For a brunette, transitioning to blonde hair is a big risk. You have to bleach your hair, which, in turn, damages it. Bleaching hair at the roots can really damage your follicles. Many women have experienced hair loss because of it. Here is an alternative: Instead of going completely blonde, opt for a blonde ombre done with the balayage technique. This spares your roots from getting damaged. Instead of bleaching your roots, just add some ash to fade the brown out.
26. Smokey Dimensions
Instagram
Adding ash blonde highlights to brown hair can really up the scales in your favor. Not only are you showcasing your tresses, but you are also adding dimension to your hair, which helps in framing your face. The dueling hair colors accentuate your skin tone and eye color.
27. Glossy Ash Brown
Instagram
Ash brown hair is mysterious without being overbearing. Itâs like that popular girl in school whoâs friends with everyone, has the top grades, can do no wrong, and has her whole future planned out. You hate her for what she accomplishes, but love her for who she is. Ash brown hair is deep and dimensional, and it makes your hair look thick and lush. The best part about it is that it allows your hair to take on more shine when you apply oil or foam to it, leaving you with glossy locks.
28. Light Ash Brown Hair
Instagram
If you have light brown hair and want to get in on the pastel action thatâs been storming the world, try this hair look. Add some ash to your light brown locks to give it a warm smokey look. This faux pastel look gives off a rose brown vibe.
29. Mousy Brown Balayage
Instagram
Grease, The Duff, Sheâs All That, Clueless, Miss Congeniality, Princess DiariesâŠthe list of movies featuring makeovers goes on and on. Itâs true, women love a good makeover. A makeover with this intense ash brown balayage might be all you need to turn into a new you.
30. Silver Ash Brown Hair
Instagram
Silver hair is one of the chicest hair colors. It is metallic and cool-toned while also being super glossy. Opt for a silver ash brown color if you want to keep up with the trend. The brown shadow root adds some gorgeous depth and dimension to this look.
Ash brown is truly a versatile color, bringing the bookworms, the mean girls, and the elite together. What did you think of this list of ash brown hair colors? Comment below and let me know your pick!

HEAPS: Edinburgh, Canberra, More Melbourne, The Script, The Wiki, and an Artist
So much has happened in the past month!
Games Everywhere
Before October, we were playing Blood on the Clocktower regularly in Sydney a bunch. In the past month there have been tonnes of games run not only in Sydney, but also in Melbourne, Canberra, and Edinburgh.
Our friend Sarah (a player from the first ever game of BOTC in 2014) lives in Edinburgh now, so we sent her a pre-release copy quick-smart as soon as we were able to build one. She immediately set about running sessions in which the Evil Team dominated (mwa ha ha ha), winning the first few games there until a Slayer could finally stem the tide and take a win for the Good Team.
The Slayer finds the demon
Join the Edinburgh group here if you want to get in on the action there.
Weâve been running heaps of games in Sydney and making a lot of space to welcome new players to the game. Weâve been playing in backyards, at Games Paradise, house parties, and Exiles Gaming Club. Frankly, itâs not always easy to keep track of where each copy of the game is among the regular Sydney storytellers and thatâs a pretty great problem to have. Jump into the Sydney group here.
A friendly man who met us at PAX Australia runs a regular social deception night at Reload Bar in Canberra. He told them about BOTC and they invited us down to run some games. (We were so eager to get down there we almost left the game behind in Sydney. Fifteen minutes into the drive Steven asks âDo you have the grimoire?â and I respond âI thought you had it...â And then we had to go and get it. More driving, yaaaaaay.)
It was super awesome! So awesome that weâre going back next week! Everyone there got the game quickly and turnout was so high that we ran some of our biggest games ever. I was for sure the Evil storyteller that night (Evil won all three of my games) and Steven was the Good storyteller (Good won both of his).
BOTC with 20 players. That is a wonderfully crowded grimoire.
A win for the Good Team.
The Good Team executed the Saint!!! Whyyyyyyyy!!!!
Hey fun meta-game: See if you can guess who the demon is based on the post-game photos. (For the above, it was the woman first from the right of the frame. Evil got the Saint killed and won that way, but her bluff was solid.)
If youâre in Canberra on December 13 and want to join us you can find the details here. You better freaking hope you draw a red token from the bag if Iâm the Storyteller in your game (Evil storyteller yesssss). The city should have itâs own pre-release copy of the game next year so join here if you want to get in on the action.
Finally, Steven just got back from a weekend in Melbourne running as many games as possible. Most importantly, heâs left a copy of the game behind with some very capable storytellers there to run regular games with. Saturday saw him at Queen of Spades Bar, Sunday at the Here Be Games monthly games day, and then Monday night they got to play at The Mystery Rooms in a freaking escape room themed as a freaking gothic church. I am so wonderfully jealous and also jealous of every player in Melbourne from now on. Itâs such a great setting for the game, and the best part is that The Mystery Rooms are run by super rad people who are happy to host BOTC there again in future. If youâre in Melbourne and want to try this game, you just have to get in on this.
Jump into the Melbourne group here if you want to play in that city.
ARTIST, YES
Some of the biggest exciting news from the past month is that we have an artist! Aidan Roberts is on board to make the original art for the game and thereâs already some awesome stuff in the pipeline. Iâve seen some of it. Itâs legit good.
Hereâs a fantastic work he made for a Blade Runner art competition earlier this year.
Aidan is just a super rad dude who in addition to being an amazingly talented artist is also an amazingly talented musician. Better yet, heâs putting those talents to good use on all fronts. Iâm super excited to see what he dreams up for Blood on the Clocktower.

BOTCâs Online Toys
The Technical Demon, Amy, has been crafting a bunch of fantastic online tools. The Script lets people create custom character lists. There are 200+ characters on the development end of things (weâve been play-testing the heck out of them in some fun and strange combinations), but pretty soon weâll put up a version to create custom scripts using the 70+ characters from the first three editions of the game that will pair with the pre-release copies that are out there.
There are plenty of good stories and innovative strategies for each character so weâve made a wiki to record them. Itâll be up soon for you to tell us things we donât know about how to play the Soldier or the Sweetheart or the Shabaloth or whatever. Like, Iâve played this game a metric tonne and I saw the draft entry for the Washerwoman and was like âOh huh I didnât know that was a thing you could do with that character.â
The Wiki, coming soon.
And weâre on Board Game Geek! We have an entry there, so please go rate us high (if you think we rate high) and add us to your wishlist if that is what you wish.
More Building! More Cities!
Melbourne now has its own pre-release copy of the game, joining Sydney, London, and Edinburgh as places where you can play all the time.
Our building session this week got cancelled when the printers were flooded out by a freak rainstorm. (Thereâs a city-wide conspiracy to pretend to the outside world that the weather in Sydney is always perfect, but sometimes yes it does actually rain and/or get cold.) Weâve rescheduled to next week and will start work on a copy for our storyteller in San Francisco. Blood on the Clocktower been through the US before on whistle-stop tours, but this will be the first copy to live in the States permanently. Then, weâll probably have Canberraâs and Amsterdamâs copies ready to go in the new year.
Salisbury Festival IX - March 8-10 in Sydney
Just another reminder that the Salisbury Festival of Board Games is on in Sydney from March 8 to 10! Itâs truly the most awesome thing. There will be Blood on the Clocktower there but also so much more. Full details are on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/events/865328406956834/
Things have been wild lately with this game and I hope they continue to be wild. Itâs simply just tremendous fun.
Until next time,
Evin Donohoe Social Minion for Blood on the Clocktower

Weekend at the Dacha
This weekend at Vlad and Tanyaâs dacha was my favourite experience in Russia so far. The homegrown food, abundance of tea, and beautiful scenery (not to mention FREE TIME) made this an ideal weekend for a tired group. The banya was a refreshing experience. We went inside a little wooden house and sat in a hot, humid sauna-like room until we were sweating copiously. It was hard to stay relaxed when I felt like I was underwater because the air was so thick! However, I did eventually relax until it felt too hot to bear. Then, I was âmassagedâ by being beat by birch branches while inside the banya. The birch branches felt like a hundred little fingers gently brushing and massaging my skin. It was quite a singular experience; one Iâll always remember. Jumping in the cool tub after the banya felt fantastic, not to mention the open sky was dark grey and swollen  with rain; a perfect backdrop to such a stimulating experience. I was the most relaxed I had been in a while! I have a lot of chronic tension problems, and my muscles just felt wonderfully light for the first time in such a long time. The next morning we had another thermal equillibrium experiment. We went to a traditional Russian Orthodox Church and jumped COMPLETELY naked into the water at a source of a natural spring. It was so amazingly cold that I felt as if I was having a heart attack. I could not breath at all and my head felt so heavy. The tradition follows that you must dunk your head thrice to represent the 3 parts of the Trinity. Afterwards, my whole body felt warm and light, and I felt jolted awake. Ten minutes later, I felt infinitely tired. Tanya and Vlad were so hospitable, curious, and talkative. Tanya told us that her family sometimes has to bribe for various services that they had already paid for, such as electrical and medical services. She also elaborated on the corruption and suppression in the Russian government of opposition opinions. Perhaps relics of the Soviet government are still appreciated. Or maybe some of the Russian people are terrified of change. We also tried some Russian cuisine at their dacha, such as shii and shashlik. They were expectedly fantastic. I was definitely sad to leave the dacha!Â
