Don't Stop My Beautification (2023)

The drama, starring Raiku from Life Love On The Line, depicts a coming-of-age story about jumping into a new world with the theme of transgenders and cross-dressing. 

OFFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: Haruomi Saito (Raiku) is a young man who moves from his hometown to Tokyo to attend a university. He begins to live in a lodging place that charges a low price of 10,000 yen per month. On his first day there, he meets a beautiful girl named Kokono. While making conversation with her, Haruomi Saito’s face blushes. He suffers from erythromania, which causes him to blush often. Haruomi Saito is excited to live with a such beautiful girl, but he soon discovers that Kokono is actually a man.

Should I Stay?

Wuk Lamat grew quiet as everyone looked at her expectantly, and her down to Raiku. He almost turned out of habit to look at Marji, so unused to people speaking directly to him that he was confused she wasn’t looking over his head.

“I want you to stay in Tulliyollal, with me.”

This scions were taken aback, and Erenville frowned at Wuk Lamat, but she paid them no mind. It was her question to him, and he wondered if Koana and her were trying to tag team their talks or if they just thought of the same thing separately. Maybe they did and gods they’re still looking at him focus on the question instead of standing there with your mouth open.

“I…”

Wuk Lamat cleared her throat, ears and tail flicking in embarrassment “That is, if you want to. If you wish I mean. Our doors are always open to you after everything you and your companions have done. Oh-“ She reaches into her pocket, producing a dirigible ticket “This is for you to visit Xak Tural. An adventurer like you can hardly resist, no?”

“I uh, thank you.” Raiku reached for it, feeling the ridges around the thing.

“I’ve never seen him at a loss for words.” Alisae whispered to Alphinaud.

“Sh! He can hear you.” Alphinaud said, jabbing her lightly in the side.

He paid them no mind. He couldn’t tell what he was feeling, but it was a lot of whatever it is. Back in Eorzea he was part of the scions and hero’s of the world, but still, that nagging feeling of being in shadow was ever present no matter how he tried to get past it. Here though? It was a fresh start, away from expectations and stares and all that history. He likes the people, Wuk and Koana feel so young compared to everyone despite being just a couple years his junior.

Maybe he would stay.

Shirasu Jin & Raiku on the set of Life: Love on the Line

Okay, this could either go the amazing route or the cringe route, we’ll see, but: that there is Raiku, who played beloved Yuuki in Life: Love on the Line. This is a preview for Don’t Stop My Beautification/Ore no bijoka ga tomaranai!? -- Raiku’s character moves into an apartment where, long story short, in order to live there, he needs to cross-dress and work at a cafe.

It’s a TV Tokyo late-night show, so I’m hoping they do good by this premise, because seeing Raiku in this role excites me, but I’ll be waiting with trepidation. (I feel like I have a high standard for shows that may not differentiate between gender expression and gender identity, which Life as a Girl on NHK did really well.)

Anyway -- Raiku in a starring role. At least I’m happy about that!
