I'M SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS! @ralbetis redesigned Raggedy Ann and Andy for the pilot, and I am IN LOVE WITH IT! We wanted to go for a similar and chubbier design like the 1977 movie designs! 💙✨️🫶🏼

Okay. So…I’ve gone through watching the raggedy Ann and Andy, movie, specials snd tv series and I have a fun idea.
I’m gonna mix them together.
So I’m Gonna made fan episodes. I’m gonna try to think of different ones and maybe write them out.
Here’s what I’d change.
Andy: so many comments on stuff said tv series Andy was too whiny. I would mix him with tv special w.
Ann I would keep the same.
I would get rid of grouchy bear ( sorry he’s just…filler to me)
Jack ( in that one episode in the tv series) would stay. Make him and antagonist.
Arthur ( thank you @elfilinfan04 for reminding me) would be the same. He can’t talk though but he’s still skilled with the skateboard
Beanie ( this is @elfilinfan04 oc) he’s a toy that looks like a cat. He’s got supernatural powers. He is friends with Andy/Crackle wiggle Andy is working for cracklin
Other villains would stay but be more villain like and more dangerous. Stairs would be higher too.
So one episode or even three part episode I have had in mind is a fun one called “A Twisted wish” so basically Jack get tired of Ann and Andy and makes a deal with Cracklin ( the tv series villain) and they create a very powerful spell to seperate Andy and Ann from eachother. The siblings and their friends lose the memories of them being siblings. And While Cracklin kidnaps Andy convincing him he’s his son, Jack makes sure Ann believes she’s an only child. Neither remembers eachother. This actually goes on for about a year…until a chance encounters changes everything.
So that’s episode 1. A three part episode.
If you have an ideas or questions feel free to ask me.

Early Adventure Time episodes: Ice King "kidnaps" Wire Princess, a vaguely humanoid heap of scrap with a smiley face painted on its "head" which he obviously made. Finn wants to stop him on the principle of kidnapping being bad, while Jake argues that since his "victim" is an inanimate piece of junk, no one's getting hurt and it might even quell his kidnapping thirst. After a series of shenanigans, Ice King attacks Jake, at which point Wire Princess speaks, revealing that not only was she alive, but consenting to the kidnapping as well, because of Ice King's fluffy beard. But now that she has seen him attack Jake, another fluffy thing, her heart is wavering and she must journey alone to find the true meaning of fluff. The end gag is Ice King screaming "She was alive?"
Middle Adventure Time episode: Raggedy Princess' kingdom is being attacked, and the assailant is revealed to be none other than Wire Princess, whose quest for fluff has turned destructive. PB appears excessively distraught by this, and it's revealed that she created Wire and Raggedy Princess (then known as cloth princess) in a recreation of the monkey experiment to best gauge her approach to ruling, in the early days of the Candy Kingdom. However, when the Wire Princess AI realized the candy people were more driven to Cloth Princess' caring nature, it logically concluded the only biological need of candy people is "fluff", and so tried her best to imitate Cloth's behavior, while Cloth Princess' deeply ingrained love for her citizens caused her to attempt to physically care for them. Declaring the experiment a failure, PB mind-wiped them both, gave Cloth Princess a new kingdom and name, and put WP in sleep mode, as well as left her in Ice King's junk pile. Jake, who has been listening, says "PB, that's messed up, man". Although they deliberate whether to reboot her again, she ends up being smashed by a gumball guardian or something. While everyone staress in shock, Raggedy Princess says "That's messed up, man. Also I didn't have time to say this earlier but I'm fine with either Raggedy Princess or Cloth Princess. So, um, yeah. Anyway, I'm going to call the cleanup crew"
Late Adventure Time episode: A strange techno-magical maze appears out of the blue in the Ice Kingdom. Finn and Jake explore it and find imagery of both softness and some sort of pre-apocalypse university, ultimately discovering it was created by Magic Woman/Betty mind-melding with Wire Princes, who was trying to reverse engineer an AI with love magic infused through Simon or whatever. She inadvertently mind-melded then, accidentally creating the semi-physical maze with her magic powers, and in turn realized that WP was, in fact, not only functional and aware this whole time, but she also had a slowed down perception of time. Finn and Jake sever the link after fighting some techno-nightmares. Magic Woman, despite only having been mind-melded for a day, has experienced a whole year, and appears distraught. But this is only momentary, as she declares that her accelerated madness means that her magic will grow exponentially stronger, and runs off appearing to have a plan. Finn and Jake are worried about Wire Princess going haywire (the pun is pointed out), but she clarifies (her voicebox is working now, but not much else) that actually, since she didn't have or understand emotions for most of her aware existence, she was just fine then. She then goes on a beautiful monologue about how, since she's now bonded to one, she finally, truly understands emotional beings and their complex needs. She renames herself "wire knight", and downloads her consciousnesses onto Finn's arm. A later episode has BMO and Wire Knight debating the trolley problem

This Is a genuine question, I know that the fandom can be rather divided on redesigns and I understand both sides of the argument. On one hand Lalaloopsy is a brand that is established on the original doll lines appearance. Its iconic and nostalgic. On the other a new take on the dolls could be what draws in a larger audience
Explanation under cut
One comment I've heard a lot from spectators is that Lalaloopsy's are uncanny and creepy because of the button eyes (Especially if the commenter was familiar with Coraline). While people in the community are particularly fond of them and find changing that element takes away from the appeal of the doll line.
On my side of the debate. I feel like part of the decline with the line (outside of poor marketing) is that the demographic had changed and the designs just didn't appeal to the target audience anymore. The original fans have grown up and MGA markets toys for children. The competition has changed.
I try to come at this reboot from every angle I can. Nostalgia, Design Marketing, and Story Telling. I feel like adding whites to the eyes of the dolls could remove a bit of the uncanniness of it. Inspired partially by Raggedy Ann and Andy since they too are rag dolls.
An in series explanation could be that its painted onto the doll under the button like Jewel's cat's eye patch or its a little piece of felt under the button to add 'life' to the eyes. It allows for a wider range of expressiveness and could appeal to a wider consumer base. as much as I hate capitalism and stuff needing to be marketable. With the current state of things a doll line has to be profitable to make it and toy sales are one of them.
Even though at the moment this is a hypothetical reboot I want to know just how open the fanbase would be to such a large change.

I am alittle bored so hey! Here are some Fun Facts/Headcanons for the characters in Twilight Town (Reminder: Twilight Town is takes place in a rebooted version of the Ruby Gloom cartoon where they’re all adults)
1. Iris is the youngest of the main 8 with Ruby being a few months older. Frank is considered the oldest being a second older than his twin Len. (Halo would have been oldest overall at 2100 but I decided to only portray her as 21)
2. Misery is a native Irish speaker though she can speak several other languages thanks to her family tree including Latin, Chinese, French, and Swedish.
3. When Skull was 13, he tried to change his name to Skull Guy but literally no one liked it so he dropped the second part of his name. Misery, Frank, and Len still call him Skull Boy from time to time to tease him since they’re older than him.
4. Ruby’s middle name is Lily which I got from Lily Munster.
5. Frank is actually Frank II. His father, Frank Frankenstein is the first. In fact. My friend said the twins names together sounded like Frankenstein (Frank) L(eN) Stein.
6. Both Frank and Len have separation anxiety due to how long they’ve been conjoined. If not near by each other for long periods of time, they get anxious and tend to lash out more.
7. Jackie was my first ever OC for anything and back then her name was Lantern. She was never gonna be shipped with anyone until recently where she’s with Len.
8. Misery has the highest kill count of the group at 666 via natural disasters and freak accidents. Frank and Len are in second place with 25 kills and will resort to eating humans to get rid of evidence.
9. Skull has never killed someone but he is capable of it as he took up marksmanship as one of his 100+ hobbies.
10. Ruby’s more monstrous side is based on Other Mother from Coraline, Nightmarionne from FNAF, Eltrich and Lovecraftian monsters, Raggedy Ann, and Wally Darling from Welcome Home!

The Amazing Digital 90's Nostalgia.
So, I really enjoyed The Amazing Digital Circus. The character animation was incredibly expressive, the direction was on point, the timing and editing really felt tight and well paced, and I'm interested to see where this goes!
I was also struck by how much it hit the "late 90's" nostalgia for me.
Disclaimer: this is completely my own brain making connections, and may be 100% bullshit, coincidence, or independent reference of the same sources. None of this is an accusation of theft: everything mentioned here has it's own unique spin in the show. It simply sets a tone that I am currently assuming is intentional.
As mentioned earlier, Zooble triggered a memory for me. I _had_ that toy. Mom bought it as a coffee-table distraction for guests. Lucky for my obsession, she still had them in the original packaging: It's called "Zolo".
Tumblr media
Which of course is the start of my own madness. While the toy has been around since the late 80's, Pixar, Zolo Inc. and Nickelodeon collaborated on a short for Unicef released in 1997:

@gooseworx has said that Ragatha is based on Richard William's "Raggedy-Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure", and I don't doubt that! The design choices in that movie's opening titles alone are enough to convince me of how much influence it had on their aesthetic preferences. That said, I'm not the first person to think of "Molly Coddle" from "Bump in the Night" (1994-1996). I think it's probably because of the stop-motion paper cutout mouth. (The actual color and shapes match the movie's design more)
youtube
I also see a lot of influence from 1994's "ReBoot". Ragatha's glitching has some modern updates (especially her hair physics getting trapped in her face), but the audio is still very much akin to Dot's partial magnetic erasure in "The Quick and the Fed".
Another good episode to add to my conspiracy pinboard is "Nullzilla", both for the Nulls (Gloink Queen?) and Hexadecimal. Gangle's design is 100% the classical theater mask design, but so is Hex.
Checkerboard floor on the diner too; another common trope of early computer rendering to show off ray-tracing. Hell, a lot of the vaporwave aesthetic that shows up in pictures on the wall is straight out of the "Mind's Eye" cg animation showcases (1990-1996).
Tumblr media
Oh hello, Posable Artist Figurines. Nice to see you here.
We also have Kingler's detached "Rayman" style hands, the opening 640x480 aliased opening title, Bubble's resemblance to a Chain Chomp, the beige PCs and CRTs of the Exit Office, and the classic Windows '95 Blue Screen and dial-up modem noise Caine makes when he freezes up.
The 90's had it's fair share of circus iconography: there was the Bozo Super Sunday Show (1994-2001) The Big Comfy Couch (1992-2013). That's pretty timeless, so at this point, the connections get pretty tenuous.
But let me leave with one last CGI Existential Circus Horror from 1998.
Hi, Bingo.

companies that wanna reboot something from the 80s need to stop trying to sterilize it and stripping it from all the charm and character and personality it had.
give Strawberry Shortcake her yarn hair, striped socks, and poofy hat back, you cowards. give Rainbow Brite her puffy ringed arm and leg warmers back!! She looked like a magical girl!! "but we need to redesign them to appeal to a modern audience, kids today won't like it--" Raggedy Ann. That's all I'm gonna say on that.
Anyways.. I'm feeling nostalgic for stuff that was before my time, but I still just barely grew up with due to my oldest sisters who were born in the 80s and grew up with it.

I saw your raggedy ann post! Comparing aurora dolls to playskool,❤️
I dont want to seem preachy but I thought I'd let you know that you might have better luck comparing Aurora dolls to Russ Berrie or other later Hasbro dolls, they look way more like aurora just a bit better, most of them also have embroidered faces (which might just reflect the shift in being less of a toy for children and more of a toy for toddlers/babies idk I'm yapping)
I love how you talked about lack of any companies attempt to reboot her, I think its very odd in our world of Disney buying IP’s and reboots left and right that she hasn't been ‘revived’ yet
I haven't seen those dolls in the raggedy ann doll lists but ill try and find them! I wasnt aware there were other dolls but im happy there are others that i didnt know of! I do have a preschool photo of a raggedy ann doll (the teacher loved raggedy ann and decorated her whole room with raggedy ann things) that i didnt reconize and might be one of those actually. Also you dont seem preachy to me i love any info about raggedy anns ❤️

Ugh hospital bugs now spreading thru the fam. Waking up from fever nightmares featuring:
Party run by artist at the house of a dude who didn’t want a party. The decorations are purple tasselled stuffed toys. Dude mad because artist told him there would be tassels and purple and dude thought he meant strippers and now he can’t trust artists. There is a repeated fucking Horror-Dread moment at this one threshold w a sad purple stuffed toy staple-gunned above the threshold dripping tassels down. We cannot get out of the party because of sprinklers on this unspeakable long black lawn disappearing into darkness.
Repeatedly being stuck on some kind of spaceship as if in a game, keep dying and reboot. Trying to get off a planet but it’s not a planet it’s just a tower of some sort and we’re stuck in the loop. Which is some kind of hall-stair-foyer combo which is a heart-tube thing and we keep trying to write ‘not this one’ on wrong ways to go, except the map we have is like a mobius strip and someone says you have to think like a Raggedy Anne to read it.
Vision of this pool with a sleeping/dying woman in it while mother-hands come over the back and gently hold her under, and this blind toothed baby monster crawls over to her with great difficulty to latch onto her hand with razor teeth. Repeatedly. (Irl my hand was out of the blankets and frozen) Scene happens with mildly different iterations while movie critics relate it to everything else. I watch. It strikes me that it happened at the purple tassel party too but who knows when or where. It also strikes me that the dude at tassel party is called Daniel and the artist was Vassilios.

Fan Art/OC Art - “Zairo” the Dragon
I felt like drawing my dragon character Zai in the style of Spyro Reignited’s dragons! Child and adult versions. I imagine Zai would be a Magic Crafters dragon. I like the idea of him being this gawky, raggedy, clumsy mage in training. I really dig the cape and hat combo!
I’m considering drawing my other Wyveria characters in this style. Pashka would also be a Magic Crafters, Ancha would probably be a Peace Keepers/Dream Weavers hybrid, and Hollis would be... a fawn?
I feel like this is leading into the elephant in the room of “What happened to Wyveria?”. I’ve been toying with a few ideas, and I’m probably going to go with the route of a full reboot or a story set in the near future of the world. Right now I’m experimenting with improving character designs, hence Zai’s palette change here. It’s not something I’m planning to do any time soon. But I really must get a move on archiving the comic, since Smackjeeves disappeared off the face of the planet :(

You said that Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure wasn't the most frustrating musical that you've ever seen. What was the most?
This is one of those times where I could have sworn I answered this within the last six months but I literally cannot find the post because tumblr just sucks that much. Maybe I answered it on a live stream or something, I guess.
Anyway, the answer to that is Frozen 2. That's a weird movie for a lot of reasons, but its musical numbers feel more like obligations than natural parts of the story or production. Some of them fit, a lot of them don't, and by the time Kristoff was doing a slow 80's rock ballad about being lost in the woods I was checking my phone.
The original Frozen was kind of lightning in a bottle; it had been trapped in development hell for the better part of a decade and gone through at least one or two total reboots. I think it ended up getting kind of rammed through production because Disney was tired of it never coming out and it ended up being this unexpected success. mainly because "Let it Go" was a cultural touchstone for marginalized people in a way that I don't think Disney entirely intended it to be (given they have historically buried that kind of representation).
They tried to do it again with "Into the Unknown". While it's a big cool sweeping song, and Idina Menzel has an incredible voice, it just doesn't hit the same way "Let it Go" did. And then you can tell they clearly tried to cover their bases, because they also did "Show Yourself", a second song positioned to be the next "Let it Go". And that one also kind of misses the mark.
So there's just too much music in that movie, like 2-3 more songs than Frozen 1 had, and the music it does have is kind of just okay at best and totally superfluous at worst.
Feels like a waste of time.
