Blade of Marmora Origin Theory
@browntiger15 and I just came up with the best headcanon ever.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4c22f6de4f7b23e8447965f259a3dac4/tumblr_inline_ow32znL0Zq1qff8k6_540.jpg)
We all wonder what the Blade of Marmora origins were. Were they Galra that just had enough of Zarkon’s tyranny? Soldiers that just decided they had enough?
It might be better than that.
What’s one of the ways to strengthen control over a group of people? Control information. Limit what people can learn, and have certain parts of history erased from the texts so they think they’re empire did nothing wrong.
Book burning if you will.
If Zarkon did that, and a good chance his did, all of the Galra scholars and knowledge keepers just want “No, you can’t do that! Knowledge is the right of all! It’s the way to the future!”
But Zarkon ignored them, and would these guys just sit back and quietly let this happen? Nope!
Knowledge or death! These guys would rebel! They saved what information/texts/history they could of their people, went into hiding and began to plan on how to take down Zarkon.
In other words the Blade of Marmora are librarian ninjas.
You may scoff, but if there’s on thing I do know you NEVER tick off a librarian.

Jay! I have a question, and something of an agenda behind it. The question- I understand the scuds use biotechnology (so, their tech is grown more than assembled), how do you visually differentiate that? The agenda is, I have a project myself that takes place on a world populated with biomechanical life forms, and I'm trying to thread that needle myself, of how to make robots look like robots, while still being robots that grew (and in their case, evolved)
AIN’T THIS THE QUESTION.... HAHA.... I have my own takes on squishy technology, but nothing I’ve designed has “wowed” me yet.
For scud biotech it’s mostly weird on the inside, because the organisms their tech is made of are so derived and purposely engineered that ergonomics has overtaken their natural shapes. You end up with regular looking mobile phones that are full of clam guts when you crack them open. Their biotech’s most interesting aspect is being aquatic and prone to desiccation and suffication on land... scuds have the reverse problem humans do from accidentally dropping their phones in the pool.
I think the two big things to consider when designing biotech is how it effects materials engineering, and energy systems.
When you’re essentially growing all the materials you need to build (instead of molding, stamping, or reducing chunks of material) there’s a lot more freedom to design complex, curved, and seamlessly connected structures. The drawback is that grown materials are generally less durable or specialized as refined metals, plastics, and etc. A way around that could be including minor machined elements where they’re needed, and keeping live healing mechanisms to make up for material weakness.
Energy systems when you’re a living thing are different than being electrical technology, as well. Living tech cannot “turn off,“ to start with, because if cells stop receiving energy they cannot maintain their structure (not to mention decomposition... if you’re not moving, other things will try to eat you). Although you could definitely make the energy delivery system more efficient than standard heterotrophy, your technology is still going to produce metabolic waste of some kind. Technology with high energy demands is going to be very bad about this. Something to consider visually then, is how food is getting in and waste is getting out. Is it using photosynthesis, chemosynthesis, liquid fuel, filter feeding, food pellets? On the way out is it waste tubes, waste pellets, transpiration, dead “leaf” packets that drop after they’ve been packed with waste chemicals? These requirements could combine or change depending on the location and needs of the technology. Gas exchange is also necessary for most metabolic systems, so you have to figure out where the lungs or gills are.

4. A character you rarely talk about? WHERE DO I EVEN START? Most of the ones I'd pick are usually characters who haven't shown up yet in my stuff, so of course talking about them would be spoilers. That includes the characters in my Next Big Comic.
In the last few days, though, I went on a binge of creating tabletop characters I can use for games.
They come in Serious: - "I am the last of a crafted race designed for destruction, and do not share those goals... but I hold the key for potentially bringing back my people anew" - "I used to understand magic but now I think some Powerful Source has... replaced my magic?? Taken it over??? Also my home has been hit with some kind of blight and I'm terrified to think I might be connected to it" - "Hello!!! We am a gentle hivemind being. We're a powerful warrior, yes, but we would prefer whenever possible to resolve things peacefully. Fortunate favors us not, however, as we are dying from a rare illness we are unable to treat. We hope to find a cure/treatment on our journey"
But since I'm me, the concepts also come in Silly: - "I'm from a warrior people but I actually prefer to get in arguments rather than physically fight" - "Hey hi I think I took a wrong turn somewhere because I'M NOT FROM THIS DIMENSION" - "I don't actually know how magic works, but I think it'd be dope as hell if I could make literally everyone in the world magic" - "I'm a little plague doctor doll willed to life! I'm a surprisingly good medic despite not really understanding how the bodies of organic beings work!"

5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? I'd say Trinity, but I'm pretty sure she's the most popular of my characters so far, so honestly, that works for me.
===
44. Something you like about your OCs in general One aspect of my character creation process in just about any series is including at least one very small detail that I myself can relate to. Not necessarily agree with or have personally experienced, but something that gives me a connection point for getting in their head. IMO, it breathes a little bit more life in them.
===
45. A character you no longer use? Most of the cast from the comic I did before KttFF, Cat Comixz, managed to make the cut into the follow-up series, if only in cameos or smaller roles. While I still have a potential thread connecting Atelia to KttFF, her role was DRASTICALLY reduced.
In one of the early drafts of KttFF, Atelia was going to be the one that kills Leon in the original timeline of events. That's what the whole Assassins thing (which I stole whole cloth from Assassin's Creed, obviously) was meant to lead up to. Ya know, for the DRAMA.
Buuut for a multitude of reasons, I dropped that idea. And now she's at best circumstantially related things now. Honestly, given what I originally had planned, I think this was the better call.

honestly I know jack nor shit about RE but I'm loving this AU, part of me just imagines all of them in one AU where just somehow for some reason it's variable how human Leon can be at a particular time so he just chacha slides all over the spectrum like it has been back knives day with a side order of big monster days for a week now and he's really been hoping for a 'just face knives' day so he can get some groceries but what fucking ever he guesses,
This but its me every day because who knows which one my brain will want to daydream about?? Its a mystery!
Real talk tho I’m glad you are enjoying the Content because its the silliest most self indulgent stuff I’ve drawn in my life and that always leaves me scared no one else will want to see it aha

What if she’s Centipeetle?

So I know we're all having a lot of fun with the idea of baby caterpillar vessels but, consider. consider. The Abyss is actively described as a sea, so- imagine baby vessels are nymphs rather than caterpillars. Babby form is aquatic before they develop the ability to go on land. So like. Hornet having to carry Baby Ghost in a bucket.
holy shit. holy fuck. you’re a genius
this is kinda ponyo but i’m entirely okay with that

Gem Drill pretty explicitly went "it's wrong to hurt them" and then went on to show how Steven trying to externally manage the Cluster with bubbles- something he only did when it told him that it couldn't stop forming on its own- failed, and the world was saved because he taught it an effective way to manage its own formation.
Like yeah that ON ITS OWN, could be seen as a case of conveniently shelving the Cluster forever because it’s too far gone / it “wants this” but- then it came back and fought the Diamond ships. It learned how to take care of itself and that doesnt translate to being quarantined.
right - and i’d argue that just. the existence of multiple gems inside the same bubble, who are shown to genuinely communicate that way, makes it different from a quarantine situation? it’s kinda like... showing that even if you don’t have a body, you can still have meaningful relationships, in a way.
and they’re clearly happy enough inside their bubble, if they prefer that to being popped out. they go right back “asleep” once the diamonds are fought.
that’s what i imagine (at least for now, maybe we’ll get a more explicit answer) also holds true for the fusion experiments in “keeping it together”:
once you’re bubbled and realize A) there’s no more pain in your consciousness anymore, and B) there’s other gems here you can talk to and find meaningful existence with, you kinda prefer that to being forcibly taken out of that bubble - where, yes, you have a physical form, but you no longer enjoy that painless love & communication.
to me, it’s like... a kind of sci-fi heaven? you don’t have a body anymore per se, but you’re surrounded by a caring community and no longer experience pain.
it certainly makes bubbling a happier situation for them than if you’re in a solitary bubble, and you Do have your own body you’d Actually Like to get back to.

Purple man be a glow boy
hi! lotor's hair has glowed before, particularly during moments on his ship back in s3, as well as during haggar's flashback in s5e2, where he turns to face her. it's curious, isn't it?
It is! My friend had some really curious thoughts about it so lemme point you to his post for much more elaborate thoughts than I could come up with.

✍ 13 + 17!
13: …the type of music they like.
They love anything with actual vocals. It just...sounds nice, knowing what voices can do, even from the throats of those who are off-tune.
Otherwise they’re fine with almost anything except music with heavy bass. Nothing that shakes their entire body, please, it’s uncomfortable.
17: …how good they are with technology.
They learned quite a bit just from being in the White Palace and standing by the Pale King, from watching and sometimes his talking aloud (either to himself or to them--obviously only as a form of Rubber Duck Coding and not talking something out to a child...) and bits from the joined minds.
Even without that, if given time (and preferably without being monitored, to give them room for error) they’d manage to poke at most things to get an idea of how they function. They’re pretty sharp.

radioactivesupersonic replied to your post “what’s really tragic about the skeleton obsession that TERFs and...”
I mean, I suppose that's the nature of bigotry in and of itself, isn't it? Looking at the diversity of the human experience, the beauty and complexity of what we are and what we can be, and completely missing the point to try and quantify and stratify according to a bad idea about the Best Kind Of Person.
I am like 99% sure that the idea that kings and peasants had the same damn skeleton was information to be repressed and deemed unseemly/unscientific/inexpert/possibly heretical (?) back in the day.

radioactivesupersonic replied to your post: the original hollow knight trailer had hornets...
so that would suggest if there are three heroes, the third is the hero of Root, which… Zote carries a wooden sword and has lopsided horns that look like branches. That, or maybe I’m just hopeful because I want to play an HK game as Zote. I want Zote to kill a god.
hi if team cherry tries to make me play as zote in any context i’ll hunt them for sport

FASCINATING
Hi, do you have any more thoughts on Kolivan recognizing keith// his parent's (mom kogane's) blade?? I'm intrigued by that angle of perspective and would love if you could divulge further! Thank you very much!
Honestly something I think about, if Kolivan and the other Blade members do recognize the Blade is… there’s an element of their own grief probably tied up in this?
From the start we’ve seen the Blade acting weirdly personal about Keith’s knife. Several members, especially Antok, were incredibly angry at him having it in a way that’s more personal than just “that’s not yours to have”. But Thace was seemingly greatly reassured by it, in the sense that even going to his death, he seemed strangely hopeful and happy to know Keith was out there with that specific weapon.

Okay but weighing in on pirate business with Ideas: I feel like Hornet would have a tiny little one-man cutter ship. People think it's an entire joke when she's about to board a galleon. They don't think that when she's done. she doesn't even have someone else to man the tiller or sails she just ties them in place, jumps onto the other ship, fights everyone on board, and then backflips back onto her tiny little boat.
a cutter is fast, maneuverable and allows her to make speedy getaways in the case that something goes wrong without having to rely on or expect other people to do things for her, which is peak hornet tbh
