Hc of the day: Anya is epileptic. if she uses her powers too much it would trigger a seizure. the first time it happened it spooked the living fuck out of Twilight and he harassed the hell out of the hospital and even stressed WISE out to figure out what was wrong. Thankfully by then Handler was already investigating it so was able to pinpoint the cause before Twilight spent a million dollars on his medical mystery of a daughter. In order to prevent further seizures, Handler got her custom made earrings that refract telepathic information to reduce the amount she gets and then got her noise cancelling headphones to fully block out the signals so when she is in crowds or around towers and stuff she doesn't go crazy.

'Andrew Scott has played many a villain down the years but in Netflix‘s Ripley he is trying to draw the line, and he has rejected comparisons with his BAFTA-winning turn as the evil Jim Moriarty in Sherlock.
Speaking on the BBC this morning, the All of us Strangers star said he will use the eight-episode TV series version of Patricia Highsmith’s novel to convince the audience that Ripley is so much more than a con man.
“It does feel different [to playing Moriarty],” he told the Today program. “As Moriarty I felt like I was playing a villain and for some reason I retreat against calling Ripley a villain. He’s an anti-hero and it’s up to me to make the audience know what it’s like to be Ripley, not to be a victim of Tom Ripley. We should empathize with him. He is the protagonist in this.”
Highsmith’s gift in her novel is to “make you root for him,” Scott added.
The psychological thriller, in which Ripley was famously played by Matt Damon in the 1999 movie, sees the eponymous character hired by a wealthy man to convince his wayward son to return home from Italy. But Ripley’s introduction to Dickie Greenleaf’s leisurely life abroad is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. The TV version stars Johnny Flynn as Greenleaf and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood.
Scott, whose credits include Fleabag and Pride, said themes of class will come to the fore in the TV version.
“This is a man with enormous talent living in stress where his neighbors are rats,” he added.
“He is unseen and can do what he does in order to survive like so many people do and then he lands in this world where people are less talented than him and have no qualms in calling themselves artists. The message is, ‘If you dismiss certain factors of the community, something becomes rotten in state of Denmark.”...'

The Gilligan's Island radio was actually NOT a prop. It was a working radio...Packard Bell model AR-851 table-top AM radio...previously purchased by show creator Sherwood Schwartz to listen to Dodger games in his office. Schwartz didn't like the black radio used in the pilot...thought the white radio would show better. (He had the prop department add the handle and antenna for effect). When the show wrapped after the 3rd season, Schwartz took the now iconic TV prop back to his office, plugged it back in, and continued to listen to Dodger games on it for decades....

Veronica Sawyer decides to die
The bomb exploded. They both survived, but at a high price… Time has passed, and Veronica Sawyer finds comfort in imagining that she is gone. Her peace of mind is shattered by the doorbell.

St. Calvin told me not to worry about you
They're broken up, but still need each other. She has the keys to his apartment, he wants her back. And there are rules between them that neither of them has ever learned to follow. (there is a new male character, but honestly, he's just one of the plot obstacles in this story).

!!!new lavender
Just a scene from married life and problems that they have to deal with through conversation ( long-married JD and Ronnie)
SHORT STORIES (complited)

turn on the radio and the braided bracelet - au!childhood friends, where J.D. is hopelessly in love with Veronica. or not so hopeless?
about a girl - Nick has been in love with Veronica since they were kids. but it seems he should have confessed earlier, because the new kid is about to steal her away from him
peek-a-boo - very hot zombie-boy and a pretty smart Ronnie? who just can't resist his charm (pure au with a twist)
white oleander - au!hanahaki where Ronnie has to choose between Chandler and J.D.
pick me up - a wasted Ronnie needs to be picked up from the bar, and even though they broke up, J.D. is the only one who can do it.
happy anniversary - nobody has visited J.D.'s grave for five years
what a night - J.D. climbed into her window that night, before the bombs and the petition.
a few more minutes and there is no cure - the bomb didn't explode, and it seems that J.D. completely failed // he returns to Veronica's life years later
an act of mercy - J.D. was dead in the explosion, but that night a familiar voice is heard on Veronica's phone
like burnt brownies and play with loaded dice - the story of Nick Sawyer and Jesse Dean

The Shadow by Don Sherwood from (I kid you not) The Partridge Family # 6, 1972.
Which it seems was doing so well that Charlton make issue 6 a double issue for the same price as a regular one.
It seems that the P.F. family manager gasses on about old time radio in one of the stories there in.

JD’s personal belongings in the AU.
A lovingly documented binder of Dinosaurs Attack! cards arranged in order of the story. Still missing a few key moments of the story he is determined to finish.
Some personal items of his mother, Jocelyn, he keeps in a tiny box hidden from his father, who threw everything out when she died. Mostly movie ticket stubs from movies JD and Jocelyn saw when he was little, some jewelry, and a t-shirt of her favorite band. His most cherished yet cursed belonging is the key lock he wears, the only thing he found in the rubble of the building his mom suicided in. JD had a fight with his mom the day before over his dad, and JD blames himself for pushing Jocelyn to suicide. (It wasn’t his fault, as Jocelyn had already planned to do this anyway, and emotions were raw then.)
A sizable stack of 7-11 cups he collected from Las Vegas to Boston, each having a different style logo and promotion to show how long he’s been suffering.
A lava lamp.
A 70’s transistor radio he keeps by his bed.
A harmonica he usually keeps in his pocket and plays when he’s sad… which is often.
A pocket knife. Usually used for mundane purposes, though during a particularly bad mental health day, he considered suicide and attempted to cut himself, but instead just threw the blade at the wall of his room in frustration. The blade hung there for days until he finally took it down.
His gun. Originally he bought it for self defense due to Bud moving them into particularly dangerous crime ridden areas. It saw the most use in Hawkins and later Sherwood. He sleeps with it, keeping it under his pillow due to Hawkins PTSD and mild paranoia.
An old toy pop gun from an old Cowboy Halloween costume he had when he was five, from a memorable Halloween where he got a massive haul of candy.
Some assorted posters from his favorite bands and movies, like Big Fun, the Pixies, Westworld and Godzilla, though they’re beat up and torn from how often he’s had to take them down and hang them back up.
A small stack of classic literature and pulp science fiction, most of the former technically stolen from libraries of moves past. Moby Dick, Huckleberry Finn and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde are the most well read and worn, with him currently working through the original Jaws novel.
A small Transformers collection that was spurned on by Dan when they originally met. Besides Fangry, his collection is incomplete Special Teams mostly. Dinobots Slag (his favorite dinosaur happens to be the triceratops) and Snarl, Terrorcons Rippersnapper, Cutthroat and Sinnertwin (partly for their edgy names), Pretender Rattletrap, Cassettes Overkill and Slugfest, and 2/3 of the Triggerbots and Triggercons. (He’s missing Backstreet and Crankcase, and the flip out guns amuse him.) His holy grail are the Japanese exclusive Autobot Dinosaur Cassettes. When JD gets stressed or anxious, he’ll start fidgeting with whatever Transformer is in reach, transforming it over and over.
JD’s clothes are similar to what’s seen in the original movie, though he also has some 7-11 t-shirts, with a Pac-Man one he wears the most. He also has a fascination with McDonald’s Mac Tonight, and has some t-shirts related to him he wears around the house.
When JD moves in with the Bravermans at the end of the Westerberg adventure, most of his stuff was confiscated by authorities investigating fraud from his dad’s company when Bud died in a construction accident, leaving him with only a few clothes, books and figures he could comfortably carry in a duffel bag.

"I strongly urge that we all smother our justifiable grievances and pretend to be having a very devil of an uproarious carousal. Let us close our eyes to the fact that we all look a bit moth-eaten and concentrate on getting through this with a show of good grace." -Poffy (Reunion in Vienna)
Here is Robert E. Sherwood's 1932 play for "Reunion in Vienna"!
Tumblr media
See all previous pics here.
While the 1955 television episode (pictured above) is currently lost, and I haven't gotten ahold of the actual 1955 script, I can but hope that Peter Lorre, who played Poffy, still got to say awesome lines like the above in the episode. And these:
"Because you realize this celebration will be nothing more than a gathering of broken-down old outcasts, like myself—with no one to give us animation, no one to give us the illusion of youth . . . but . . . I'm afraid that it may not be quite what you expect. . . ."
Poffy is a tragic but gallant ex-officer of the Imperial Army, who is now engaged in the great work of guiding American tourists about the Hofburg.
Other versions:
There was a 1933 John Barrymore picture that seems hard to find commercially, but here's a deliciously spoilery review. The Poffy character isn't mentioned once.
We do have this 1966 radio broadcast:
youtube
If the above won't play in your country, try this site instead.
Incidentally, in the play, Poffy is Baron Povoromo, which became Lord Pofferoff in Barrymore's version, et al. It's just as well I saw the latter first because I dearly love the alliteration. And I'm definitely keeping it as such for my Blackadder II crossover story, ahem, ahem, start here. :D

'A new suspense-filled drama is on its way to Netflix soon, and it stars Andrew Scott as roguish protagonist Tom Ripley.
The story is an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel, The Talented Mr Ripley, and focuses on a conman who scams his way into a life of wealth in Italy in the 1960s.
Written, directed, and executive produced by Academy Award winner Steve Zaillian (The Irishman, Moneyball, The Night Of) and filmed in all black-and-white, the series follows Tom Ripley, who is hired by a wealthy man to convince his wayward son to return home from Italy.
However, Tom's introduction to wealthy loafer Dickie Greenleaf and his leisurely life abroad sends him on a journey into a complex web of deceit and murder. You see, Tom likes Dickie's lifestyle so much that he wants to take over his identity and never return to New York.
Also starring in the eight-episode limited series is One Life’s Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, Dickie’s girlfriend, who suspects darker motives underlie Tom’s affability.
“He came to Italy, moved into Dickie’s house. He just wouldn’t go away,” Marge says in the trailer. “Tom is one of those people who takes advantage of people.”
She adds: “I don’t trust him. He’s a liar. It’s his profession.”...
Patricia Highsmith's novel has previously been adapted for screen, including 1960’s Purple Noon and, notably, The Talented Mr. Ripley, which starred Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Fleabag star Scott’s appearance in Ripley follows his acclaimed performance in All of Us Strangers, alongside Paul Mescal.
Ripley premieres on 4th April on Netflix.'

Post-Punk, Reggae, and the Evolution of East London's Music Scene
Tumblr media
Introduction
The British music scene has a vibrant history of embracing and transforming genres from different cultures, particularly black music. From the Beatles' admiration for American rock 'n' roll in the 1960s to the rise of reggae music, the British have taken these influences and added their own innovative touch. However, it was with the emergence of reggae in Britain that an exciting and transformative journey began. This journey eventually paved the way for genres like rave, jungle, garage, and dubstep.
Moreover, East London played a central role in shaping this musical landscape. This essay aims to uncover the deep connection that East London has with dub and reggae music, as well as the influential East London artists who emerged and played a significant part in transforming British music.
Early days of Reggae in East London.
Reggae has been a part of East London's music scene since the 1960s, and we owe a great debt to the generations before us who not only created this music but also embraced it, making it cool to listen to. As a personal example, my father was part of the first-wave of skinheads and frequented reggae or 'Blues beat' clubs like the Four Ace's in Dalston during his formative years. The Four Ace's, established in 1966, the Wikipedia entry for the Four Ace’s states that ‘in the 1960s and 1970s, the club was one of the first venues to play black music in the United Kingdom and was credited with playing a significant "role in the evolution of reggae into dance music, from ska, to rocksteady, to dub, to lovers, to dancehall and the evolution of jungle.’
The experiences my father had during that time left a lasting impact on his musical taste, which included artists like John Holt and Bob Marley, as well as Tamela Motown Records and sophisticated 70s soul. These musical preferences were shared by many East Londoners during that era.
A Confluence of Influences: Post-Punk and Reggae
When punk arrived, my father's generation might have been considered too old for that scene. However, it was during the emergence of the second wave of British reggae enthusiasts that something truly groundbreaking occurred. This generation not only embraced punk music but also incorporated elements of reggae and punk into their own music. These individuals were visionaries who played integral roles in the music industry and the post-punk scene. Artists such as Jerry Dammers and Terry Hall with The Specials, John Lydon and Jah Wobble with Public Image Limited, Pauline Black and The Selector, Neenah Cherry with Rip Rig & Painic, Adrian Sherwood, The Pop Group, The Clash, The Slits, and even Madness, played a vital role in the cultural fusion of post-punk and reggae.
The connection between post-punk and reggae in the British music scene is a testament to the remarkable diversity that emerged during this period. They took reggae as a starting point and created their own unique punk versions or experimented with unconventional, abstract variations of the genre. The intertwining of post-punk and reggae is an undeniable connection that can be viewed as a breeding ground for the unique British diversity that would resurface and continue in genres like jungle and dubstep These genres can be seen as natural progressions of the groundwork laid by the reggae-inspired post-punk musicians.
It is important to acknowledge the pioneers of reggae and those who stayed true to its traditional roots. Reggae itself deserves immense praise, but this piece focuses on the diverse sounds it has inspired. Reggae did not necessarily require diversification, but it played a pivotal role in encouraging white British individuals to embrace diversity and undergo transformative experiences. Reggae was everywhere while I was growing up in Hackney - resonating from tower blocks, playing at parties of friends with West Indian Caribbean backgrounds, and streaming from radios & stereos of guys I worked with. During my early teens, there was a Dancehall reggae boom, with half of my friends into ‘Dancehall Ragga’ and the other half into either rave or Heavy Metal music. It was just the way things were back then.
The East London Connection: Jah Wobble.
The biggest noteworthy figure from East London who played a pivotal role in this transformation is Jah Wobble. Born John Joseph Wardle of Stepney Green, the bass guitarist and singer known as the original bass player in Public Image Ltd (PiL) in the late 1970s. Jah Wobble perfectly embodies the open-minded and diverse music approach ingrained in certain types of East London residents. He went on to pioneer a plethora of diversity in his music.
The Influence of Post-Punkers on Rave
Among the post-punk artists, it was the industrial music musicians who wholeheartedly embraced change. Hackney resident Genesis P.Orridge of Throbbing Gristle made influential contributions to acid house with his project 'Jack the Tab,' just as Richard H Kirk of Cabaret Voltaire did in the Sheffield scene and early Warp Records. They were not interested in remaining loyal to a single genre but instead chose to move with the current and embrace whatever manifested at the time. Artists like Jah Wobble, along with many likeminded individuals, were already exploring the realms of reggae, hip hop, and electronic music. The combination of these factors sparked an optimistic and forward-thinking attitude towards music, and the post-punk era cultivated a remarkably imaginative and inventive environment during the vibrant decades of the 80s and 90s, which proved to be an optimal period for artistic exploration and groundbreaking innovation.
Mutation, diversity and open-mindedness towards music all idea’s that would find home and be carried forward in Rave. Other influences added to the cultural blend, including the energetic beats of hip hop, house, and techno. As a result, the British Reggae-Rave version of this music emerged. Some of it had an electrifying party energy that gleefully crank-up the insanity level, with an emphasis on multiculturalism much similar to the British Ska movement of the late 70s. Then some of it would be dissonant and otherworldly like a mix of techno and more abstracted post-punk like Public Image Ltd. This thrilling evolution proved to be revolutionary, setting the stage for Jungle, Drum & Bass & Dubstep. This emerging genre of dance music would serve as a platform for even more numerous young individuals, many of who had little music training or equipment, to engage with music. Enabling them to flourish, thrive and capture the spotlight, which, in my opinion, truly epitomises the essence of punk. This indomitable spirit, reminiscent of both British Punks and Jamaican rebels, continued to exert its influence within the rave generation, as a real rebel connection.
Furthermore, when artists from East London who had primarily focused on reggae music began experimenting with abstracted reggae elements and rave-inspired tempos, as exemplified by the likes of 'Shut Up & Dance' and their 'Hackney Hardcore' projects, the rapid development of Jungle music was greatly accelerated.
Since then, East London has consistently been at the forefront of underground dance movements, particularly during the ascent of rave music in the UK. This is not by chance, as at that time, East London's vibrant music scene provided the perfect nurturing ground for experimentation and creativity to flourish. This collective effort resulted in a vibrant underground dance movement that East London has continued to lead ever since.
Conclusion
The journey from post-punk to rave exemplifies music's ability to transcend boundaries and spark creativity. The experimentation and melting pot of ideas in the post-punk era have had a lasting influence on future generations. The contributions of reggae-inspired post-punk musicians will remain a source of pride and inspiration, serving as a constant reminder of the limitless possibilities in both music and life.
In conclusion, the most significant impact of rave was its ability to bring people together and overcome differences. Rave culture was about breaking down divisions and embracing unity. The transition from reggae to rave, jungle, garage, and dubstep is a testament to the coming together of people from different cultures within these shores creating genres that celebrate the cultural mix in music. The enduring legacy of East London's music history reminds us of the importance of unity and transcending differences. The influence of these artists and the love for dub and reggae music in East London continues to shape not only the UK music scene, but also that of the world.
