Note
the barriers of turn 6 really really need to be reworked. every T6 crash throughout the weekend in all classes has bounced the car right back into the track
They can’t do much though, there’s quite a bit of a valley behind there where the ground just kind of drops off, so they can’t move the wall backwards, which is a similar issue like they had in Spa with Eau Rouge/Radillion
I guess what they could do with T6/T7 is return it to how it used to be (before the track changes), where it was a much slower, sharper corner (70kph slower than it is now)

F1 Belgian GP 2023 recap:
It has been such an amazing weekend! On Thursday, during my birthday my mother in law gave me a Lewis Hamilton birthday card lmao, while my mom made a cake covered in Max and Charles 🥹 My boyfriend decided to make everything Barbie and Taylor Swift themed, so I couldn't be happier!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the afternoon, I went with my dad and cousin to the track to see how the new parking system worked and we managed to get to the entrance of the fanzone. Sadly, we couldn't enter this year but it was fun to feel the buzz of F1 at Spa already.
On Friday, we left early because I wanted to get a good spot at the barrier for the drivers interviews. I got second row and it was such a wonderful moment. I waited three hours, but it was all worth it to see Daniel especially.

Zhou posted a video of the event and I look way too happy on it.

The whole day was rainy as hell, but it also was a lot of fun. We decided to sit in front of the Gold tribune and saw from La Source up to Radillion!
Witnessing a Charles and Max front row, made me happy and it was a wonderful end to the day!
Part 2 in a bit!

GENERATIONAL TALENT
FLASHPOINTS: PT.2
The Start / Ch.2 / Ch.3 / Ch.4 / Ch.5 / Ch.6 / The End
This time Shepard dives for the inside line and sticks to it. Garrus doesn’t try to out-brake her again, but somehow he makes the outside line work and they come out of the right-angle corner neck-and-neck, just inches apart at a hundred and fifty miles an hour.
Those tyres are coming to him - she can read his car as well as her own by now - and through the fog of desperation and steaming, righteous anger Shepard makes one final, fatal mistake.
Just for a moment, she forgets who she’s racing.
They barrel along the short straight out of Stavelot, some four hundred metres on the southern end of the track, and despite the wind-tunnel rush and two screaming engines, the world seems to slow. Out to her left is Garrus, the nose of his car looming just behind her front tyre, and beyond him is kerb, then gravel, then half-empty grandstand, then treetops, then great, gaping sky.
And Shepard tilts her wheel.
It's the same trick she pulled with Kaidan into Radillion. It’s an eleventh-hour move; a jet-fuelled game of chicken. It’s try me, I dare you. The Armax is as far left as Garrus can get without hitting gravel, and for a flash of a moment Shepard thinks she’s got him.
But it’s Garrus. And Garrus doesn’t blink first.

Spa GP 2023 Impressions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Great experience! Not really any rain, which was probably boring for the people at home in front of their TV screens, but good for us. We were at the straight between Les Combes and Bruxelles, the highest point of the circuit, and any rain that came that day (and hit the Porsche cup hard) was only down in the valley. And in the end we had the opportunity to walk over the track. Radillion (also known as Eau Rouge, though that's technically only the left-hand kink at the bottom) is a lot steeper than you think, but you also don't realise that the Kemmel straight is fairly steep as well.
This is definitely not something I'm going to do every year, but if you are interested in motor sports and there's a Formula 1 Grand Prix near you (and you can afford it, those prices are horrendous), I absolutely recommend going. I'm not sure if Spa is the best course for that since the parking situation isn't trivial and leaving the circuit via tiny Belgian rural roads through the Ardennes took forever. But it is the nicest and prettiest track on the calendar by far, and I love being here.

Some photos of the renovations going on at Spa Francorchamps .
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These photos are focused around the changes happening at the Eau Rouge/Radillion complex but there are changes going on all around the track, which involve extending tarmac run off and changing gravel traps.
Specifically, the top of Radillion (Turn 4) is having its tarmac run off extended on both the left and right sides, with the track profile changing slightly on the right. At Eau Rouge the angles of the barriers will be changed to allow a larger run off at the foot of the hill.
These renovations are being done to make the circuit safer and so that it can get FIM grade C approval and be able to host bike races. There’s also General track infrastructure that needed replacing like grandstands and other facilities.

I'm sorry but it's been proven time & time again that Eau Rouge & Radillion is dangerous & is in dire need of updating & yet there are still people who think it should remain how it is because it's 'just part of the track' & the drivers should 'just accept it'.
FUCK OFF. DRIVER SAFETY SHOULD ALWAYS COME FIRST NO MATTER WHAT. FUCK HOW HISTORICAL THE TRACK IS.

Gasly VS Tsunoda - Qualifying Comparisons
This is an odd one, because of the variable conditions between the sessions I didnt think it was that fair to compare Pierre’s best lap (in Q2 when it was drier) to Yuki’s Q1 lap, so this is both of their Q1 laps, with Pierres being 2:00.387 and Yuki’s being 2:02.413
Tumblr media
Off the bat there isn’t a huge amount of difference, Yuki carried less speed through Radillion, he is generally breaking later than Pierre and this appears to be a hindrance for him on the exit of corners, as seen in sector 2 below.
Tumblr media
It takes him longer to get up to the speeds that Pierre is doing, generally I don’t think he has enough confidence in the car, as seen by the considerable deceleration at Pouhon which makes it harder for him to get back up to speed before the next corner.
Tumblr media
It makes sense that the most challenging sector on the circuit (sector 2) is where he is losing time, but he’s able to stay close to the same speeds in sectors 1 and 3.
The differences are more apparent when you compare Yuki’s lap to Pierre’s best qualifying lap a 1:57.936 from Q2
Tumblr media
Pierre was just able to carry more speed at every corner and you can see that when you overlay his two laps
Tumblr media
The white line being the Q1, 2 minute lap whilst the blue is the Q2 lap.

brundle lamenting about how eau rouge and radillion are considered flat now makes him sad or whatever is just... such stupid romanticism like spa isn’t a dangerous track regardless. these ex-drivers need to get over themselves like safety improvements aren’t a good thing.
