I have so many things to say about TCH2. It’s actually such a beautifully written book and as someone who’s been obsessed with fairytales since childhood, I love it’s utilisation of troupes both how it plays into them (such as ‘true love’) and subverts them (‘Powerless’ heroines, the scene with Jack and the old Fae, sun and light=good dictomy) and could literally write essays on it

lots of complicated feelings towards this book but genuinely my main gripe with it is the mc. they’re so mellow and mary sue-esque it drives me insane. the mc should have been mad and angry and resentful for way longer. also the mc not telling kieran about the heart piece should have been more about them fearing for their own life (and that kieran would k**l them for it) rather than oh no! i can’t betray the trust of the person who literally kidnapped me like???

also kinda like the idea that their love story would end as a tragedy. that they wouldn’t end up together. kieran not being able to get that final heart piece back and not having the heart (ha) to hurt them…. the mc being too fearful to be with them. idk! once again pb has so much potential. this story could work so well as an anti-hero tragedy doomed by the narrative romance but no…..

2. Words of Radiance (still good but WoK was the first adult high fantasy I finished and enjoyed, so it'll be hard to beat that one)

1. Adolin Kholin (someone gave a golden retriever a super weapon and it was the best decision they ever made)

2. Dalinar Kholin (most interesting character arc imo)

3. Shallan Davar (used to be my number one, set back by some really blatant and annoying "not like other girls" behavior)

4. Kaladin Stormblessed (least fave from the last book. enjoyed him a bit more this time, but not enough to rise through the ranks rip. kindest heart paired with the most intimidating resting bitch face)
