Movies I watched in 2021 - The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019), dir. Joe Talbot
Self-taught historian. Carpenter. Gentle, loving man. A true survivor. Jimmie! How many places have you lived? And if they kicked you out tomorrow, you would still be all those things! You exist beyond these walls. You extend beyond your forefathers. Youâre not this house, Jimmie, you are not these walls. Youâre not these floors, youâre not this ceiling.

I challanged her with a look. "Do you love Stefano?" She said seriously, "Very much." "More than your parents, more than Rino?" "More than everyone, but not more than you." (...) Maybe it's not all over: even after she's married, something between us will endure.

CASE STUDY: the nouns for âconcubineâ in Greek comes from the verb that means âto sprinkle.â A concubine is a stranger who sprinkles herself into someone elseâs householdâas Helen does when she follows Paris to Troyâhoping to assimilate herself to the texture there. Helen does not belong in the house of Priam. She comes in tracking greek mud all over the floor. [âŠ] TEACHABLE MOMENT:  Helenâs very first appearance in history and literature, at verse 126-129 of the third book of Homerâs Iliad, shows her sitting in her chamber in the palace of Priam, weaving. She is weaving a vast tapestry that depicts, minute by minute, the battle going on outside her window. Notice Homer uses the word âsprinkleâ to describe how she embroiders the doom of men into her web. Helen knows dirt. Helen is a death-sprinkler. BATTLEFIELD CLICHĂ: Her thread is deep dark red.

the remote, secluded and little known rice terraces of yuanyang county in chinaâs yunnan province were built by the hani people along the contours of ailao mountain range five hundred years ago. during the early spring season, the terraces, once planted, are irrigated with spring water from the forest above, reflecting sunlight to create these stain glass like landscapes
