Backbone 8: begging for submissions
Hey Radblr,
I am once again here asking for submissions for Backbone 8. I have started paying for cover art only, and have that covered for this edition, but if you would like to take a commission for cover art, I’m able to pay $20 and will use it in the next edition. Everyone who contributes will get a copy of the zine. I’ll link our Etsy down below, but just be aware that my printer is out of toner right now, so orders will have to hold off until that gets here. We will have t-shirts posted in the shop by mid-June. If you have any writing or art you would like to see in print, please hit me up! And if you’d like to support us, please buy a zine, and keep eyes for the shirts! I would love to put out a late summer edition if I can collect enough submissions. Please share this around so more women can see it! My main goal is and always has been to get women’s writing and art out there, and keep the magic of zine making alive in the digital age (although we are beginning to have pdf versions available for international readers who don’t want to pay shipping). Please help me keep this project going by submitting, buying a zine, or even just sharing this post! We have been going strong since 2019 when I first joined my irl radfem group and have expanded to readers and writers from all over the world, and this zine means everything to me! (I even have Backbone tattooed across my fingers)

A radfem zine is looking for contributions!
The theme of the second issue: First rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do. Soft deadline: winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. We'd love to see your writing! Essays, slice of life, fiction, poetry, musings, ramblings, reviews, forbidden questions: everything that fills lots of space in your thoughts and you don't feel like you can share anywhere else. I want to feature as many different women's voices from as many different places as possible. We have more in common than the patriarchy would like us to believe. We're in the same boat, and we have to work together. So if you have something to say, please say! Don't stay silent!

This might be my .5 a cup of alcohol & late night brain talking, but I've suddenly been overcome with the desire to make and distribute my own radical feminist zine locally.
Anyone have any tips or suggestions to help me out?
How many people do you work with?
How do you distribute the zines?
Do you do physical or online copies? Both?
What do you focus on? How many topics?
#radical feminism#zine#rf zine#radfems#radblr#radfems please interact#radfems please touch#activism#Anything that might get this circled around pls

Hey, guys! I'd like to address a personal issue which actually concerns everyone in this fandom. Please, read and react somehow🙏 For those on the bojere fanbook server, that's going to be pretty much the same as what you read yesterday. If I'm too direct or accidentally overshare, sorry, keep in mind that I'm autistic
So for quite a long time I felt secretly disliked in the fandom. I am a very anxious person, I hang on every piece of feedback that I get so it bothered me a lot. I wasn't allowed to participate in the Käärijä zine and they never explained why and I almost didn't get in the bojere fanbook as well but at least the mods were kind enough to communicate the issue
So the mods told me yesterday that people felt uncomfortable about me taking part in this and having me on the server. I felt very down the whole day and didn't understand shit until Moko and Due gave me the explanation. The issue was "radfem" in my bio on Twitter. They explained to me how my associating with radfem made them think I was potentially threatening to other people on the server, especially the queer folk. But the thing is I turned out to be quite different. I consider myself to be radfem cause I've had a lot of traumatic experience with men (SA, abusive relationship), I don't want any other women to go through something like I had to experience, I am with women, I'm fighting for our comfort and against the patriarchy. Also I am from Kazakhstan and we have big issues with women's rights here including all kinds of abuse and femicide for which men tend to not get in jail. You might have heard how our ex minister of Economics abused and k*lled his wife and didn't get in jail until the case reached the news. That's all, that's what it means TO ME to be radfem. So I guess this radfem is different to the one you're used to. I am not transphobic and I have never thought my views had anything to do with queer people. I have always been nothing but respectful towards queer people, online or irl. I have nonbinary friends who are comfortable with communicating with me. As a cis person, I may not understand something, but we tend to talk anything through in order to understand each other better, not waiting for any of us get hurt accidentally. So I suggest the same - if you need further clarification, you can ask me questions in reblog or dms and I'll answer. Also I'm open to literature suggestions to get to understand you guys better💕
Also regarding Russian-Ukranian issue in case anyone has a problem with it
Since I'm openly Russian speaking (though being from Kazakhstan and half Ukrainian myself), Ukrainians might have an issue with me and I perfectly understand why so I try not to bother them. However, some of them didn't want to leave me and my friends alone. You might have seen this big Russian-Ukranian fight on twitter in April, mostly taking place in JO fandom. The thing is that (again) people don't dig deep and assume I am pro Russian since I speak Russian and happen to not be able to speak Ukrainian or Kazakh (in Kazakhstan we mostly speak Russian). Me and my Russian speaking friends were bullied, our personal info was leaked without our permission and one of us got threatened to be physically hurt once she arrives to a JO gig we are all going to. Of course I protected my friends and myself, maybe not in the best way possible. Luckily, we were able to talk everything through with the guys and no one means to hurt anyone anymore. I suggested doing commissions for donations and I still do that if you're interested. I am pro Ukrainian and pro Palestinian and genocides suck
If someone doesn't want to communicate with me for whatever reason, just don't, what's the problem. But don't limit a person before clarifying things, I beg you. Please, I really want to be on good terms with everyone. I wish peace to everyone 🙏

Comic I made out of a tumblr post of mine that went viral. (Christians keep your grubby little hands off if it. It doesn’t mean what you think it means.) this will go into Backbone 8 and I’m trying to get into making more comics with the help of a book that teaches you how to draw clothes.

doing some research on making my own tirf zine :] i want to put lots of (respectful) radfem debates within the community, interview trans & detrans radfems and tell their stories, maybe showcase the work of some radfem artists and photographers too!! and i'd love to also include interviews of some tra & terf povs to add diverse opinions on complex topics between the lgbt community and radblr. i might genuinely name it radblr, as cringe as it sounds lmao. or call it tirf with an i. either way this was just a random idea but for funsies i'm gathering some folks in my tirf server who have different sets of skills and just learn more about what it would even look like if it did become a real thing. again, this may or may not end up happening, but at the very least it sounds like a fun thing to play with and learn from. i do want to self-publish my tirf book someday at least initially until i find a publisher who's not afraid of publishing ~controversial~ content or whatever lol. so this could be a nice way to dip my toes into that world y'know? either way it's an exciting thought!
i would want to charge only the price of the publishing cost for the people ordering it online, with the option to pay more to support the zine. i mostly want it to be about community building!! boosting voices that are so often silenced, and showing people the fascinating discussions that can happen between radfems and tras and how we can all try to actually figure shit out instead of endlessly fighting. i also want to show how varied radfem opinions are, and how they aren't always "terfy" the way that tras assume. i would love to have people share the zine within their irl lgbt/leftist community too. and help other radfems make their own zine too!! idk, i really want to start doing more tangible activism <3 i think holding in our hands something about the radfem community we're in could be super empowering!

you seem rational etc can i ask what your thoughts on trans people are?
i self identify as a trans woman and i know that a lot of womens' issues specifically DO NOT REFER TO ME, however
the conflation of gender and sex i see in radfem spaces is intense and just comes across as bigotry tbh
i've seen radfems refer to trans men as "confused girls" who were manipulated by the patriarchy into hating their body and like.. that just seems very anti-expression and backwards to me
since you’re asking, i’d like to believe you’re coming into this with an open mind, so i ask you to please listen to me all the way through. this is also a pretty general question so i did my best to sum stuff up but if you have any specific questions feel free to follow up with another ask. i’ll talk to anyone in good faith.
i believe in freedom of expression and common courtesy in respecting other people (until you’ve done something to lose that respect). basically, you can do whatever you want, and i mainly take issue with people who can’t/won’t separate trans people from the gender they’re transitioning to and recognize their sex/actively encourage ill feelings of dysphoria/etc. i also think we have a huge issue with informed consent regarding transition and we need to examine why dysphoria is occurring and explore other methods of treatment instead of jumping to being a lifelong patient.
i think “confused girl” is rude but i do think it’s important to know exactly why you feel the way you do. gender isn’t innate. your feelings of distress stem from something. reality girl zine doesn’t do a great job at appealing to a wider audience (and may have caricatures some find offensive), but it makes great points about what girls are taught about gender from a young age and how stereotyping male and female traits may lead young girls to identify out of girlhood (some of which i personally empathize with as someone who is now desisted).
all this being said, our ultimate goal is always gender abolition. since we do live within the frameworks of gender and i understand transness in our world as it is, it’s important to recognize that gender is not real, it’s not innate, there’s no male spirit and female spirit, and wearing pants and having short hair doesn’t make you any more male than wearing a skirt and having long hair makes you female. gender, when it comes down to it, is a set of stereotypes. if you remove the social aspect of gender/the idea of what it means to be a woman removed from sex, you have nothing leftover. it’s a bunch of gunk created to oppress women. it’s evolved a lot now, but the extremely basic premise of gender is to fit people into boxes: women-like activities include wearing skirts, makeup, tight clothes, and cooking. men-like activities include wearing pants, loose clothes, having body hair, etc. if this weren’t true, the basic elements of transitioning to a different gender wouldn’t exist. trans women wouldn’t be upset online about being misgendered while wearing a dress and makeup, because clearly dress and makeup = woman. doesn’t this all seem a bit regressive at its core? i’ve used this infographic a lot, but it’s always relevant:

Hi! This is my space. If you are curious on the subject of radical feminism this post is for you.
Few things:
Kindfem (here on nice vs kind);
Bi-focused and disability/ND focused;
Anti-individualist,
Anti-black and white thinking,
Politically a socialist,
The job of a SOC Analyst.
About mental illness and excuses (one day I I'll make an actual essay about this, currently be happy with this version)
Ask policy:
I'm going to donate 5€ to a feminist organisation for every hate anon regarding me being a "terf" or something;
I'm going to donate 5€ to a DV organisation specifically for every hate anon, comment or reblog about me being in a relationship with a man
And you still won't get an answer! Ask yourself if it's worth it.
I will do my best to catalogue and keep this space organised. Most of my tags are organisational, they are placed to help myself and others finding the stuff they need to find.
1. What's radical feminism? ->Tag full of resources to explore on radical feminism.
-> here is a non-radfem article about choice feminism and why is bad.
-> another article on why choice feminism is bad, from a Black woman perspective
If you are curious about doing some feminism in your life I have the how to be a feminist tag.
2. Relationships tag -> This is compiled mostly for women who have relationship with men and want to lower their risk.
Here are my favourite non-radfem things, resources and opinions on the subject;
-> Zawn is a brilliant writer that tackle the inequalities in marriage and motherood. She is very active on substack and has a lot of resources for women in a long term relationship with men.
-> You should have asked is a comic about the mental load of work women have to do in a relationship with men.
-> She divorced me because I left dishes by the sink is a blog post made by a man for men that explains how this little non-action lead ultimately to his divorce.
-> Fair play is a method to address domestic inequality few people I know swear by.
-> Duluth model on abuse. Please read that carefully before dismissing it.
In the relationship tag there is also criticism on how this could work or not.
I now have a female separatism tag!
-> Some reflection on separatism and power
3. Tag Cloud! (hopefully)
-> self explanatory tags dedicated to these subjects.
4. How to connect to others? -> @nansheonearth her blog is full of resources of where to find others, Discord servers, how to visit womyn's land resources, IRL meetings and separatism in general. Check her out!
@rad-fem-zine with my own contributions:
-> my mom's story (medical misogyny)
-> Cybersecurity guide for cyberfems
5.My favourite essays.
-> I'm not here to make friends
-> The Ethical Prude
-> How to grow the fuck up, a guide to humans
-> The Gentrification of Disability (it explains how the neurodivergent movement is failing ADHD and autistic people, thanks to )
Also: I sometimes reblog things I don't agree with but I consider worthy of consideration regardless.
6. Still missing from this post:
Stuff over female separatism and how to practice it IRL to various degrees.
The actual tag cloud (Tumblr doesn't allow me to use js on the blog and god I'm going to beg the staff but idk)
Send me a message/ask if:
Want to know stuff about cybersecurity!
Have recommendations for this post.
