It's so funny going back to the first season and seeing Peter only just beginning to waffle on his principles. He'll be like nooo, Neal, don't do the thing, that's against the rules! And it's a whole day or two till the wink-wink-nudge-nudge comes into play. Whereas in later seasons, he's outright scheming along with Neal, willing to interpret CI privileges however works best in the moment. It's fairly well-paced character development. It's also hysterical going back to the beginning and seeing how instantly ride-or-die these two were for each other. I mean, in a way, that predates the pilot, doesn't it? By the time we meet them, they're already working from a place of mutual respect, and it doesn't take much to forge that into camaraderie. The funniest part is Peter's habit of coming to Neal for personal advice, and how it takes longer and longer each time before he questions the instinct. They're totally friends even without much trust, which is a charming dynamic. (And later, it really never quite becomes trust - that's always the thorn in the side, especially for Neal - but it's a friendship built on faith, in who each of them is despite what they do, and that's a fascinating dynamic too.)

I just got to this bit yesterday in my current reread, and my margin notes now read, "But this time she came back! (Lucy comes home)". Lockwood traverses the land of the dead with Lucy to bring her home - and unlike Orpheus, he succeeds, his Eurydice returns to the land of the living and is restored to right relationship with him, too. Their version of the "don't look back" moment is when Lucy falls and her spirit-cape rips; only the narrative is kinder to them, Lockwood is allowed to rescue her, he's allowed to give something of what he has to save her. And that's the part that's wrecking me right now, actually. Unlike his past two great losses, this time, Lockwood finally has the opportunity to make it right, to save someone he loves, and it works. After the times it was out of his control, after all the blame he's heaped on himself, especially for Jessica - and the secretary of the Orpheus Society sort of encourages the same, doesn't he, when Lucy asks if Orpheus succeeded in bringing his wife home, and the secretary replies, "No, he did not. He erred, and she remained on the Other Side." (No acknowledgement of the forces stacked against the doomed couple, of course, because that's the society's role to play here.) The ending does change this time! What a beautiful grace! And to top it all off, what saves them, the love made tangible that he's able to use to cover Lucy, is from his parents - the redemption of his first grief.
I'm probably being delusional but. something about Orpheus risking his life to bring Eurydice back from the underworld and Lockwood risking his life in TCS to save Lucy at Aickmeres.
AND THEN BOTH LUCY AND EURYDICE LEAVING (Lucy leaving lockwood and co, then joining back after Lockwood convinces her and she realises that he is safer with her there/ Eurydice forced to stay in the underworld but then allowed to leave after Orpheus charmed the gods with his music. Different circumstances I know but still)
Lockwood being more reckless and hopeless after Lucy leaving/ Orpheus trying to kill himself to be with Eurydice.
AAAAAAA THE PARALLELS ARE KILLING ME.
JONATHON STROUD YOU GENIUS.

s5 was fine, but truly s6 is where things just go off the rails. this thing with the doctor picking up a bunch of people like strax and madame vastra, and then also people from earlier in the season like that wwii pilot (????) and also the pirates: fun. why is an entire sontaran army here, or a bunch of silurians when we last we saw them (admittedly just one group of them), things were not in a good place? also there are judoons here? i mean they seem like rent a cops so, fine, but, ???
also who are these monks, why do i care about these cleric army people, what are they trying to accomplish?? things that could've been answered if we were paying attention to storytelling and not just a pile of cool ideas like an over-sugared 12 year old going "AND THEN ALL THE SONTARANS WERE THERE!! AND SILURIANS!!! AND AND AND"
i can see how that makes fun children's television but none of it makes any sense or is like. fun. it's kind of fun in a way, but it would be more fun if i had any sort of emotional connection to anything that was happening.
including, also, having any idea who strax is or madame vastra yet, bc they are new but we're just jumping into their relationship with the doctor, just, in media res but without really spending any time to make that meaningful yet, and we're 22 minutes in.
also, still no idea how the doctor knew that amy was a ganger, or that she was somewhere giving birth. like am i crazy or did we just jump from the human tardis episode, with no indication that the doctor was feeling things were off with amy other than the flashing pregnant/not pregnant, to the next episode STARTING with the doctor knowing she's flesh and going to track down its origin. how did he figure it out? literally he's been with amy and rory hanging out on the tardis. how do they not know?
like this could've been as cool as it clearly wants itself to be if it wasn't just plunked in the middle with nothing to support it so it just falls flat.
also rory being dressed as the lone centurion for absolutely no reason, and the show also just sort of shrugging and going yeah no reason. also the way that amy said he was the last centurion when it should be the lone centurion which also sounds way cooler.

Peter?!?!??!??
So was that why Mozzie had to be kept out of the loop? If Mozzie knew, El would know? And especially with the baby, El would never agree to Peter going undercover with the Pink Panthers. Or is there another whammy coming I haven't foreseen?
Two minutes into this finale and I'm hyperventilating already!

no but timdale is going to happen. they have to.
so sesaon 1: dale was clearly interested in both of tim and helen, and in his fear of being rejected by his mother, he decided to romantically pursue helen. even tho he starts dating helen, he still has a bit of a flirty dynamic with tim, and tim confirms that he is gay as a way to test whether dale feels similarly. tim then made their unspoken attraction explicit by kissing dale, which dale reciprocates, but he then panics because of his relationship with helen. obviously things are really tense after that (especially after dale's botched reporting on AIDS understandably upsets tim) but dale still turns to tim as his safe person, trusting tim with a lot more details about his past than he gave helen. tim tries to help dale become comfortable with being open, but dale chooses safety and to conform.
season 2: dale and helen have been going strong for a year. upon gerry making it clear that he's interested in him, dale confesses that he had a moment with "a cameraman" to which gerry asks if he wanted things to progress further. instead of dale answering that, he pivots and says he wanted to be with helen, which in his mind meant going further was not an option. imo it's clear he still thinks about their kiss from time to time, but now that tim has left the network, in his mind it's definitely not a possibility. but when helen runs into tim and mentions his name to dale, he is clearly affected. maybe he's not as out of reach as dale thought. and tim is clearly affected by seeing helen too, as we see him watching the report with the aboriginal activists. tim then shows up to the office party bc??? I'm not sure why he came honestly. but dale is clearly flustered upon seeing him, and tim quickly comes by to check in on dale and offer congratulations on how far he's come the past year. gerry eagerly initiates a conversation with tim, and they're clearly talking about his interest in dale. and then gerry is clearly trying to push the two of them together, by inviting them to accompany him to a gay club. as soon as dale and tim are alone, he lets it slip that he's single, and tim is clearly very concerned, trying to get dale to talk about it. but dale is spiraling and feeling reckless so he pulls tim with him to the dance floor. tim goes along with it at first, but when dale tries to initiate something, tim refutes him bc he doesn't want to be a rebound or a mistake. he knows dale isn't in a good headspace, and if something is going to happen with dale it's going to happen for the right reasons, not just because dale needs an escape from his emotional pain. and then the finale?!?! that gossip columnist is fishing for details about dale and tim's relationship. of course dale is panicked again, especially after seeing how people are treating gerry now that he's been outed. so he calls up tim and asks tim if the columnist calls again to tell her that they just had a professional working relationship, and tim says he won't lie. dale again is choosing the security of conforming, but when he talks to the columnist himself, he never denies a relationship with tim. he just pivots and tells her that with his position as a newsreader, that it'd be more advantageous for her to work with him than to write this story that will take away his position.
anyway I really think that dale becoming the face of the network is going to lead to him getting all the things he dreamed of, but he'll realize the pressure of having to live in repression isn't going to be worth it. I honestly think that tim and dale needed time apart for dale to realize those feelings are still there. like he said to helen in 1.06 "everytime anything happened I'd tell myself that's it. it's the last time. it's out of my system." but a year of not seeing tim, and he still feels that connection just as strongly. dale's gotta get his shit together and accept this aspect of himself before he can have anything with tim.
