Cricket: Nigeria wins third game against Ghana
Tumblr media
Nigeria has won her third game against Ghana by 62 runs at the ongoing Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Women’s Invitational in Lagos. The game at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) Cricket Oval on Friday, saw the Ghanaian team win toss and opted to field. Nigeria had a slow start to the game but usual suspects Salome Sunday 27(18) and Agatha Obulor 25(34) helped keep the scoreboard ticking for the Nigerian side. The hosts eventually sailed to 120 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. In the second innings, Ghana relied on Rasidatu Salia 20(29) and Komalpreet Grewal 11(23) to help see the side reach the target but their efforts weren’t enough. Nigeria’s Racheal Samson 4/18 and Peculiar Agboya 2/18 did the damage against the Ghanaian side as they limited their West African rivals to 58 for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. After the game, Rhyda Ofori, captain of the Ghanaian side, said there are lots of lessons garnered so far from the tournament. “We lost all our matches in the tournament but it’s not the end of Women’s cricket in Ghana. “We have learned some lessons here and we will take it home and improve on our game. Hopefully, we will come back better and stronger,” Ofori said. On her part, Blessing Etim, captain of the Nigerian team, lauded her team’s efforts adding that they needed to do more. “The win means a lot to us because we have put up a great effort and teamwork to ensure that we go unbeaten throughout this tournament. “Although we need to come through with our batting and bring our ‘A’ game as well as we face Rwanda on Saturday,” Etim added. Ghana has exited the tournament, losing all of its matches to Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, alongside Nigeria. Meanwhile, Hosts Nigeria will face Rwanda in the last group game while Sierra Leone will face Cameroon, both on Saturday. The tournament which began on Monday is expected to end on Sunday. “Anansi Boys” Rounds Out Cast
Tumblr media
CCH Pounder, Jason Watkins, Fiona Shaw, L. Scott Caldwell, Joy Richardson, and Lachele Carl have joined the cast of Amazon’s Anansi Boys, based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. They join the previously cast Malachi Kirby (Charles Nancy and Spider), Delroy Lindo (Mr. Nancy / Anansi), Amarah-Jae St. Aubyn (Rosie Noah), and Grace Saif (Detective Constable Daisy Day). Pounder will portray Mrs. Higgler. Watkins will portray Graham Coats. Shaw will portray Maeve Livingstone. Caldwell will portray Mrs. Dunwiddy. Richardson will portray Mrs. Bustamonte. Carl will portray Miss Noles.
Gaiman and Sir Lenny Henry are writing the six-episode limited series along with Arvind Ethan David, Kara Smith, and Racheal Ofori. Gaiman and Douglas Mackinnon will serve as co-showrunners.
Anansi Boys follows timid Londoner Charles Nancy. Charles finds out that his father, Mr. Nancy, has died. Charles then discovers that Mr. Nancy is in fact the trickster spider god Anansi. Also, Charles’ heretofore unknown brother Spider is about to make Charles’ life very interesting.
Deadline broke the news.

Artemis Fowl (2020)
My rating: 2/10
It's almost impressive how they got every single aspect of this - casting, acting, characters, plot, the very tone of the movie - so utterly, mindbendigly wrong that the one thing they got more or less right is Briar frelling Cudgeon, a minor antagonist and officious smeghead. Even for a bad YA adaptation, this is bad.

GUNS AKIMBO (2019) Grade: D
For an action film w mostly non stop shoot outs, it's boring with a thin plot line. I didn't like much of anything in this one. It’s worst than just mindless fun.

Guns Akimbo (2021) is a flashy, frantic misfire full of sound and fury but signifying nothing.
Guns Akimbo (2021) is a flashy, frantic misfire full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. #Review
A flashy, frantic misfire full of sound and fury but signifying nothing, GUNS AKIMBO finally slinks on to a UK streaming service following a self-inflicted delay caused by director Jason Lei Howden’s social media stupidity. It provides the expected scattergun thrills and kinetic action yet underwhelms by failing to make the most of both its premise and its cast. In the near future, the world’s…

Neil announced that his Anansi Boys are going to be filmed! With Douglas as a co-showrunner.
It seems that they are going to have their hands full :):
Somewhere around 2016 I agreed to work on it to help it get made, but we all knew that we would have to be patient as I was writing and making Good Omens. And when Good Omens was in post production we began to move forward.  Amazon had loved making Good Omens, and were blown away by the viewing figures and reaction to it, and wanted to make more things with me, so Endor and Red now had a place to make it for. We put together a fabulous team of writers -- Kara Smith and Racheal Ofori and Arvind Ethan David, not to mention Sir Lenny Henry, who came on board both as a writer and as an Executive Producer to make sure that the soul stayed in it. (I'm writing the first and the last episode).
Douglas Mackinnon agreed to co-showrun it with me, because I knew I never wanted to be the sole showrunner of anything again and after the Good Omens experience I would trust Douglas with my life and (which actually may be more important) with my stories. We planned to shoot it all around the world...
Paul Frift had been the producer of Good Omens during the South African leg of the shoot, and was indomitable, so we were very happy when he agreed to come on board as our producer.
And then in 2020 Covid happened. The Prime Directive of making Big Budget International television suddenly became “Don't Travel and Especially Don't Travel All Around The World. We Mean It.”
Douglas came up with a Plan to bring Anansi Boys to the screen that was audacious, creative and brilliant. All we needed to make it work was the Biggest Studio in Europe and access to an awful lot of cutting edge technology.
The biggest Studio in Europe happens to be in Leith, outside Edinburgh.
Before Covid, the plan had been first to make Anansi Boys, then immediately to make Good Omens 2. (Good Omens 2 was going to be shot in Bathgate, outside Glasgow.) That was the plan we were working on through most of 2020. Then, in September 2020, Douglas and I got a call from Amazon. “We've got good news and complicated news for you,” they said. “The good news is we are greenlighting both Good Omens and Anansi Boys. The complicated news is... well, how do you feel about making them both at the same time?”
Oh dear... :)

Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys to become Amazon series separate from canceled American Gods
Tumblr media
A six-episode limited series will start filming in Scotland later this year and isn't considered a spin-off.
While the world of American Gods focuses on a war between the deities of classical mythologies (Odin, Thoth, Queen of Sheba, etc.) and the New Gods of modernity (technology, media, and the like), Anansi Boys centers on the family of Mr. Nancy, the African trickster god Anansi, who appears in both books. It's a story about Charlie Nancy, who learns that his recently deceased father is none other than Anansi. On top of that, he has a brother he never knew about who's entering his life and making it more dangerous.
Starz aired three seasons of its American Gods TV series before it was canceled unceremoniously with a cliffhanger ending. Gaiman and the producers at Fremantle are trying to keep the adaptation alive in some capacity, potentially with a movie to cap things off, but so far the project is still in limbo.
As for Anansi Boys, the show will be separate from American Gods. According to Gaiman in a post shared on his blog, the books are also symbiotic but also separate. "I borrowed Mr Nancy from the story I had not yet told and I put him, or a version of him, into American Gods," he wrote.
Mr. Nancy appeared on Starz's series for two seasons, but Orlando Jones, the actor who played him and helped write for the fantasy drama, said he was fired ahead of season 3 because American Gods' latest showrunner Chic Eglee felt "Mr. Nancy's angry, get sh– done is the wrong message for Black America."
"Don't let these motherf–ers tell you they love Mr. Nancy. They don't," Jones had said in a video message to fans. He later went into greater detail about the experience in an interview with EW, saying, "It was a blindside."
Representatives for Starz, Fremantle, and Eglee refuted Jones' claims at the time and stated characters, including Mr. Nancy, weren't a part of the chapters in the original book that were informing the season 3 arc.
All that is to say, it's not surprising that Anansi Boys isn't connected to American Gods.
Tumblr media
The idea for the original book stemmed from conversations between Gaiman and Sir Lenny Henry, who now returns as an executive producer on the adaptation.
"We are trying to make a new kind of show with Anansi Boys, and to break ground with it to make something that celebrates and rejoices in diversity both in front of and behind the camera," Gaiman added. "I'm so thrilled it's happening and that people will be meeting Mr. Nancy, Charlie, and Spider, the Bird Woman and the rest of them."
Gaiman will coshowrun the series with Mackinnon, and he's also writing the episodes with Henry, Arvind Ethan David, Kara Smith, and Racheal Ofori.
Culpepper (Star Trek: Picard, Memories of Ptolemy Grey) will direct the pilot, while Jermain Julien (Grantchester) and Azhur Saleem (Doctor Who) will helm other episodes.
This news comes after Amazon greenlit a second season of Gaiman's other big show, an adaptation of Good Omens.
