Pinocchio (1940)
Tumblr media
Date Watched: 6th February 2017
Referenced in: 1x19, 3x22, 4x06 and 5x05 (i may have missed some cause i usually work out the references from IMDb and it doesn’t have any for Pinocchio even though I’ve noticed multiple)
Rating:  ★★★★☆
Never seen Pinocchio. As I’ve said in previous reviews my Disney film watching history has been limited by my sisters. I vaguely knew the premise, puppet comes alive, to become a real boy he has to be good forever (or that’s what I knew) I love Jiminy - he makes me giggle. Poor old Gepetto too, i don’t like it when old men are sad :( and man this puppet is dumb, and really doesn't listen.
I had no idea about the donkey thing? And I didn’t know Wish Upon a Star was from this film! Also I wonder how many kids tried that rock thing so they could walk on the ocean floor too!
Enjoyable disney film, would watch again, 4 stars.

1x19, Emily in Wonderland (2001) Lorelai references the nose growing when lying part of the film when saying she believes Rachel. LUKE: I've heard the speech. I know the speech by heart. LORELAI: Well, I think she means it this time. LUKE: You don't know her like I do. LORELAI: I don't. But she seems sincere. LUKE: How do you know? LORELAI: Her nose didn't grow. LUKE: Why are you taking her side? LORELAI: I'm not taking her side.
3x22, Those Are Strings, Pinocchio (2003) Title reference and Lorelai mentions Pinocchio when talking to Rory about her ‘no strings attached’ loan from Emily and Richard. RORY: I just left them now. It's a done deal LORELAI: Rory, honey, do you understand, the Gilmores do nothing altruistically. Strings are attached to everything. RORY: There are no strings. LORELAI: No strings? RORY: No. I just have to pay them back starting five years after I graduate, and I have to start going back for Friday night dinners. LORELAI: Um, hello, Pinocchio, those are strings.
4x06,An Affair to Remember (2003) Lorelai jokes about the nose growing in this film and Emily mentions the filming when scolding the humour EMILY: Is this the off-white or the cream? LORELAI: Uh, the off-white. The cream is more creamy. I cut those myself so they could be adjusted either way. I mean, they could be adjusted smaller. Taller would be tougher once they're cut, but, uh, if they tell a lie, they'll shoot right back up. EMILY: I assume you'll have servers. LORELAI: Yes, we will. EMILY: I assume you'll instruct your servers to omit the Pinocchio humor. LORELAI: Yes, we will.
5x05,  We Got Us a Pippi Virgin (2004) Lorelai lies to Luke about eating her grapefruit, noses are mentioned. LORELAI: Hey, bring us some coffee, and I promise this grapefruit will be eaten. LUKE: [skeptical] Okay. [Luke exits] LORELAI: How long is my nose? RORY: Very.

Bambi (1942)
Tumblr media
Date Watched: 18th November 2016
Referenced in: 1x16, 2x12, 2x22, 3x14, 3x22, 5x06 and 5x19
Rating:  ★★★★★
I have seen this movie over 100 times (not exaggerating I watched this film every week for a phase - of 3 years - when I was in primary school with my best mate) and I love it. It’s my joint fave disney movie w/ Mulan and Dumbo. I hadn’t watched it for almost 10 years so was a bit worried I was going to ruin my childhood memories of it but it was just as perfect as ever. Still super sad but super funny and tense - felt like I was a kid again watching it. I even got a wave of nostalgia fear when the thunder and lightening was happening just from the memory of being scared when I used to watch it! It will always be a 5/5 for me this film.

1x16, Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers (2001) Rory references the cartoon when Dean says she looks cute eating. RORY: Stop it. DEAN: No, you look cute. RORY: I’m eating. DEAN: Well, you eat cute. RORY: I do not eat cute. No one eats cute. Bambi maybe, but he’s a cartoon.
2x12, Richard in Stars Hollow (2002) Rory mentions it as one of the films not behind the ‘Rory Curtain’ in the video store. RORY: No, being the poster girl for censorship is not a little funny. The only videos not behind that curtain are Bambi and Dumbo. I mean, they actually had a meeting earlier about whether or not Babe should be behind the curtain so as not to offend people who keep kosher. JESS: It’s a crazy world we live in.
RORY: Come back here. JESS: Why? RORY: I’ll give you an eggroll. JESS: Yes? RORY: What did you do? JESS: Nothing much. Just wanted to make sure whoever rented Dumbo or Bambi gets a little surprise. RORY: What kind of surprise? What did you do? JESS: You owe me an eggroll.
2x22, I Can’t Get Started (2002) Lorelai tells Rory to give Richard the Bambi face to change the subject of Sookie’s late wedding invitation LORELAI: Mom, look, isn’t Rory pretty? RICHARD: Apologies all around. I could not get Adamson off the phone. LORELAI: Dad, glad you’re here. We’re just talking about how pretty Rory is. Big eyes, baby. Give him the Bambi face. RICHARD: Oh, Rory gets lovelier every day.
3x14, Swan Song (2003) Luke mentions the film while talking to Jess about the swan that attacked him. JESS: Just lay low, it’ll come. LUKE: Does it act all peaceful and Bambi-like and then suddenly attack like the rabbit in Monty Python? JESS: Your voice is probably scaring it away.
3x22, Those Are Strings, Pinocchio (2003) Gypsy referencing the film when talking about Taylor’s idea of a deer cull. TAYLOR: But they’re taking over the town. We need to institute partial elimination. MOREY: Partial elimination? GYPSY: You wanna kill the little romping Bambi’s?
5x06, Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant! (2004) Lorelai accuses Rory of talking in a Bambi voice. RORY: I’m fine. LORELAI: Aw, what’s wrong? RORY: What makes you think something’s wrong? LORELAI: You’ve got Bambi voice. RORY: I do not have Bambi voice. LORELAI: Spill, please. RORY: I’m just… really behind.
5x19, But I’m a Gilmore! (2005) Lorelai says that hating Rory would be as impossible as hating Thumper. RORY: You busy? LORELAI: What’s wrong? RORY: Dinner was awful. LORELAI [whispers]: Hold on. [She gets up and goes into the kitchen, careful not to disturb Luke.] Okay, hit it. RORY: Well, to make a long story short, Logan’s family hates me. LORELAI: That’s impossible. It’s like hating Thumper. No one hates Thumper.

The Money Pit (1986)
Tumblr media
Date Watched: 1st June 2017
Referenced in: 2x08, 2x17, 3x22 and 5x18
Rating:  ★★★☆☆
I love the little things like the broken door gag etc but not as funny as I thought it’d be. Tom Hanks seal laugh at the bath tub made me crack up an inappropriate amount and his little wave during the floor bit. All the workers are funny too tbh. Enjoyable but not as funny as I would like.
(Other GG Movies I’ve watched so far)
(Full references under the cut)
2x08, The Ins and Outs of Inns (2001) Michel suggests the name "The Money Pit" for Lorelai's and Sookie's new inn. LORELAI: Or. . or 'The Inn by the Hollow'. Kind of long. SOOKIE: No, but nice. MICHEL: How about 'The Money Pit'? LORELAI: Boo. MICHEL: Or 'The Outhouse'. Go international. SOOKIE: Go back in your hole. MICHEL: Or 'The Inn Heading for Bankruptcy'. Kind of long, but nice.
2x17, Dead Uncles and Vegetables (2002) Lorelai mentions it. LORELAI: Hey. I brought you a wimpy with a rose pinned on it. LUKE: A what? LORELAI: Turkey burger with onions. LUKE: Oh, thanks. Come on in. LORELAI: How’s the money pit coming? LUKE: Oh, just uh. . .that’s it.
3x22, Those Are Strings, Pinocchio (2003) Lorelai wonders if she and Sookie are buying a "Money Pit" in the Dragonfly Inn. KIRK: It's a growth industry right now, pardon the pun. Mold is money. I just wish I wasn't so scared of finding it. LORELAI: Well, don't look too hard then. KIRK: Thanks. LORELAI: So, what's the final prognosis, Luke? We're not buying a money pit, are we? LUKE: You're gonna spend money, but it's not a pit. Might be a steal. LORELAI: It's a steal!
5x18, To Live and Let Diorama (2005) Luke calls the museum a money pit. LUKE: Taylor, look. I know you don’t like me, I can’t change that. But I’ve got to be honest here. This museum is not going to make it. This property, these expenses, the taxes, the upkeep. I mean, the floor broke through from just the cannonball. It’s going to take money. Do you want to keep a money loser on the books? Do you want that to be your legacy in Stars Hollow? Because that’s what this is, Taylor. It’s a money pit. TAYLOR: Well, I don’t want a money pit on the books.
