[Review] Rouge et Noir: Under the Gun & Second Barrel
CV: Kawamura Masato
There are a million things that I want to say about this rare piece of gem in the wonders of the world of r18 otome, but the biggest thought I had upon first finishing this CD was actually… Context, it’s all about the context. A good story is what makes the difference between “audio drama with mature content” versus just some hard smut – of course I’m not saying that smut is not welcome; smut is very much welcome, otherwise why am I even here in the first place – but you know what I mean. Out of all the drama CDs I’ve listened to, the Rouge et Noir series put by far the most elaborate and well-done effort into providing the context, and its long-lasting popularity is a testament to its success.

Okay, so I think I know how they made that Iwaizumi track.
It is Yoshino-san (Iwa's VA) but the things he was saying were from a blcd that he probably did. (They get really explicit there but like Futakuchi, Kindaichi and Kamasaki are the most well known ones who don't shy away from r18 otome ones)
The sfx, the gucha gucha and bed springing sounds were added in as well as the bgm.
Now I'm crying because how I literally do not have the skills to edit audio like that lol
Adafsgsh don’t worry 🥺 it’s enough that you translate them 😭 that’s no easy feat bb.
Also don’t they add all those umm… environmental effects in the cd it self? Idk afgshsd I’ve heard some explicit ones before and they had the slip and slide sounds adsgshd

Hey Chell, you wouldn't happen to know if Seiyuus Sōma Saitō and Kōsuke Toriumi have some any r18 drama cds would you?
HELLO DEAREST ANON!!!
AS FOR AS I KNOW
Both Soma-kun and Tori-chan haven’t done otome-oriented R18 audio lewdies!!! I think the closest you might get is Tori-chan being part of THOSE FREAK NASTY VAMPIRE THOTTIEZ IN DIABOLIK LOVERS
Tori-chan has done lewdie BL cds iirc tho too!!! AND THEN SOMA-KUN IS JUST PLAIN NASTEEEEE

I miss the heyday of otome-themed drama CDs... u_u
My faves don't really put out many solo drama CDs so I've just been out here lol but today I stumbled across a new series called Loving House that I think I'm willing to try! None of my faves are in it, but I know the seiyuu and I liked the voice samples released thus far, so I think I'm going to give it a shot.
I have the money now and even though it's kind of A Lot of money and an investment...I just...want the serotonin, lol ; u ;
Whenever I get into one of these moods, I end up relying on r18 CDs 'cause that's the majority of the content my faves have in the solo CD area...which...I'm not always in the mood for lewd, right, so I end up feeling kinda gross afterwards instead aha... orz
Lately I have been in the mood for it so it's been fine, but more than anything I just want the serotonin of otome drama CD content; lewd is not required lol.
For the present moment, it's been a hot minute since I've even been in the mood for these r18 CDs so I've been enjoying the present haha. Honestly it's been well over six months probably, during which time I started to wonder if maybe I just didn't have urges anymore LOL
Lowkey, I want to talk about it, but I also don't really know who I can talk to about these things anymore, and I don't exactly want to talk about it here lol. I used to have a group of friends on twt where we all openly talked about r18 cds, lewd mousous, etc., but I kinda fell out of the group... like we're still friends, but because of my break from twt, I kinda fell out of those safe spaces, too. It's a shame, but it is what it is...
.
.
: : This is your warning to turn back if you don't want to read this kinda nsfw conversation with myself LOL : :
.
.
I know people who would think it's improper, or weird even, but man... there are worse things I could be doing, I guess. At least this way I'm not risking my life or contracting diseases, lol. And besides, it's enjoyable having only audio cues so that I can dream up the visual and physical sensations on my own (heh) <:
I think also how these CDs are very female-targeted helps, too. Sometimes the stereotypes that JP society likes to hold to bother me, but for the most part, I'm willing to just suspend reality for a moment for the enjoyment. It's a very different, and much more fulfilling experience than consuming content that's generally marketed for men, at any rate lol
And then obviously like the entire experience as a whole sets off a whole different set of feelings (and probably also internal chemical reactions...lol /)////(\ )... it just hits different, ya'll LOL I can't describe it further than that without getting too uncomfortable for a generally public audience HAHA
I do kinda struggle though at times with making sure I ground myself in the fact that though these are voiced by my favorite voice actors, these CDs are not a reflection of who they are as people. For a brief while, it was common for fans to feel like the better the seiyuu was at this stuff, the more...skilled they must actually be in bed. I know better than to think that now, obviously.
I think now my struggle is to make sure the image in my head while listening to these CDs is not the voice actor themselves, lol. Which...can be hard to do sometimes just 'cause I know who it is behind the character, obviously. ^ ^;
But of course I also give myself grace--I'm only human, I have urges too, and as long as I'm not harming or maming my faves directly or their reputations, then I'm okay, and I'm in line (probably).

Is there an otome cd database that organizes by voice actor? I came across a cd from Takahiro Sakurai and a snippet of one with him and Kenichi Suzumura and I fell in love with their voices. Also came across one from probs Kenjiro Tsuda, an old fave of mine.
I'm only able to find snippets on Soundcloud and some sites don't mention voice actors and idk if the two I'm looking for use pseudonyms or not.
Anime drama cds are fine, but I'm real curious about the kind that involve the use of a dummy head mic for 3D audio effects. I'm totally new to looking up drama cds, so idk what earch terms to use besides "otome cd" or "r18 otome cd", and a lot of otome cd search results yield me bl related stuff, which is only half of what I'm looking for.
If anything, a good organized database alone would be sufficient if one exists.

Léa, the wonderful owner of the blog Otome Street (*c’est en français) asked me a few questions about otome CDs a while back, and here are my answers! ( • v • )
1. Tell us a little about yourself, and what you do on your blog! ~
Hello! ( • ᴗ • ) I’m Dauri, and I run a small niche blog that exclusively covers “adult”/(R18) drama CDs in the otome category, a genre that has recently gotten popular within the past few years. I translate and post information about new releases, and occasionally make not-witty-but-sort-of-witty jokes and commentary about them. Sometimes, I even have enough spare time to answer asks!
And if anyone asks, yes, I’m legal.
2. How did you get interested in otome CDs?
Me and smutty drama CDs go way back, but I remember that my thing was otome games before I got into otome CDs. All of this started 5-6 years back. There was a seiyuu* whose character and voice I absolutely adored, so I naturally tried to find his other work to fill the empty void when I finished his route in the game for the 1000th time. Then I found out that he voiced a character in the (SFW) otome drama CD series, Shuukan Soine (週刊添い寝 )... and then he was announced to be in a new R18 drama CD—a genre, that, as I mentioned, was really rare at the time. Because I was thirsting after him like no other wanted to hear his voice again, I was totally down for that and the rest is history...
*I doubt anyone can guess who the seiyuu on the first try because he’s not actually considered one of my favorites anymore, but... you can try... ( • v • )
3. What do you think is their "appeal"? Why do people get drawn to them?
For non-rated, SFW otome CDs, sometimes the plots are actually really interesting, and I think listening to a drama CD that’s like that is quite like listening to an audiobook, in some way—except that, if it’s a CD in which the character is speaking directly to you, the listener, you may feel more of a connection and are thus more drawn to the character and the plot.
On the other hand, while some rated/adult otome CDs have very intriguing plots as well (Hanakagami, Milky Chain, D’avrilmoon, Operetta, and Hitsujigumo are the top producers that come to mind when I think of plot-heavy) the emphasis is on the carnality and the loveliness of hearing a character (or a seiyuu) in question moan into your ears. ( • ᴗ • ) I think that reason is self-explanatory and perfectly reasonable, no? It’s smut for the people who are more excited about audio than they are by visuals. It’s often said that women, which otome CDs are made for, can be more aroused by audio and text than they are by visuals, so it makes sense that a lot of women are drawn to rated drama CDs instead of other... adult media.
Plus, some people just have a voice fetish. (*Raises hand*)
4. Are there different "types" of otome CDs and if so, what is your favorite?
Well, you can characterize otome CDs in a variety of ways—by character types, plot lines, voice types, and purposes. In the rated/adult genre of otome CDs, the common character types are things like the senpai, the kouhai, the teacher, the boss, the co-worker, the boyfriend, the yandere, etc., and these are often crossed with a sort-of-generic plot-line like “more than friends but not lovers,” “forbidden love,” “just fluff,” and the list goes on and on. I’m not an expert on non-rated otome CDs, but I feel like non-rated otome CDs can be sorted by plot more than rated otome CDs can be. (Because let’s face it, not a lot of people listen to smut for the plot, unless you’re Dauri.)
If you’ve seen my blog, you can probably guess what my favorite is now. Anything consensual and smutty. I like a lot of fluff (癒し系) oriented CDs but I’m kind of a glutton for drama at the same time, so I do like conflict and angst in my plots from time to time.
5. What are your favorite otome CDs, and the ones you would recommend to "beginners" who are just getting to know the world of otome CDs?
My favorite non-rated otome CDs were the Shuukan Soine series, the Danna-sama series, and the Honeymoon series. If you’re asking about what my favorite R18 drama CDs are, I don’t think I could possibly answer in a few words, because I’d have to make another list... 💦
But for R18, in general, any CD produced by Milky Chain (Twinkle Blossom, Enemy Coupling, Switching!?, Koibito vs Nijigen) or Apricot (Kare to Soine), and any CD that features do-M boys (like the Namidame series*) could probably be considered to be favorites of mine. Then again, there are a lot that don’t fit those categories but I love them dearly anyway. If you’re curious about my opinion about something, you’d probably have to ask me specifically about a series or a CD.
(Disclaimer: The following recommendations are the SFW sort, and I’m assuming the beginner in question has a foundation in upper-basic to intermediate proficiency in understanding spoken Japanese.)
If I was making an recommendation to an absolute beginner, I’d actually start them off with apps like Situation BF, Voice Supplement and Sleepy-time Boyfriend (which is based off of Shuukan Soine), where there isn’t really a plot, and you can sort of figure out if you like the idea of a nice voice talking to you directly as the listener or not.
If you decide that you like the concept, I’d move on to lighter series-oriented CDs like those from Otomate.
Assuming a solid grasp of Japanese and an interest in more dramatic CDs, I think you’d be fine moving on to CDs like the infamous feelsy Shinsengumi Wasurenagusa series by Rejet, or really, anything by them if you’re into drama and feels—aside from their occasional forays into lighter-hearted stuff like √HAPPY+SUGAR=DARLIN.
Then again, as I’ve mentioned earlier, I am by no means an expert on SFW CDS ( • v • );;—unfortunately my collection is more of a ratio of 1:20 SFW to NSFW CDs, maybe even less, if I had to guess... But there are plenty of other people on Tumblr that would be wonderful resources about SFW CDs if that’s your thing.
(I’ll just be here in the gutter if you need me. ✨)
And I’m sorry to disappoint, but I don’t think I could even get started about R18 for beginners here, because there would be way too much I’d want to say, given that’s my area of expertise. 🙃 I’m this close to making a beginner list/starter pack though, maybe if someone put in an ask...
*Not for the faint-hearted, as I always say...
But that concludes this brief very long Q&A, thank you again to Léa @1filletterevolutionnaire for the opportunity to answer such interesting questions! ❤️

RIP Taisho Alice Localization
It sucks that a game that got pretty positive reviews from people who have played the original JP version got this incredibly awful localization. By incredibly awful I mean:
The announced the release date the day before. They also barely made any updates and have been sketchy ever since they first announced the were translating Taisho Alice
Some people are not even receiving the download link after making their payments throug PayPal
Terrible translations (both in English and Spanish
No Japanese audio and a very, very bad English one (literally sounds like all the guys were voiced by one person lmao)
THE MENUS AREN’T EVEN COMPLETELY TRANSLATED LIKE?? Pls lol
So congratulations E2 Gaming, you are officially every otome gamer’s nightmare if you ever decide to translate other games (Oh gee great, this is only Vol. 1 of Taisho Alice)! Prayer circle that Primula will get the rights back for this game and let another company translate it (Hello Aksys, IFI, or MangaGamer). Also shout out to the people who decided take one for the team and buy the game to show us how terrible it turned out to be. Your sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Aaanyways don’t worry, we have more otome games translated by much better companies to look forward to this year!
Period Cube (It has been out for 2 weeks but I figured I should include it here anyways)
Hakuouki Kyoto Winds (May 16th)
Fashioning Little Miss Lonesome (It’s done being translated and edited, we’re just waiting for a release date. It’s also R18 ohohoho)
Collar x Malice (July 28th)
Bad Apple Wars (TBA)
Code Realize: Future Blessings (TBA)
And there are a lot of great otome games that are already out now for PC, are the around same price as Taisho Alice, and have much better translations (all can be found on Steam):
Dandelion - Wishes Brought to You -
Nameless ~The One Thing You Must Recall~
Amnesia: Memories
Ozmafia!
Nightshade
Aaaand if you really want a good Alice in Wonderland game, then there’s a really great fan translation of Anniversary no Kuni no Alice and you can download the latest version of the English patch here!
Okay good I think I’ve listed enough good things to cleanse us from the horrible localization of Taisho Alice. GG E2 Gaming, and by GG I mean: please stay away from localizing anymore otome games because you have lost everyone’s respect and trust ;)

When I saw your Immorality Prison post, I thought it was an otome game, but can you please tell me what a Drama CD is, is it like an audio cd? b/c it looks really interesting those boys look real delicious
Hi anon, I wish it was an otome game because the plot and the characters look so damn good! 💦💦💦 I’ll try my best to explain what a Drama CD is↴
Basically, yes it’s an Audio CD/Audio Drama. There’s different types of Drama CDs like Otome, BLCD, etc. and depending on the type you will either listen to the characters interact with each other in the story or you might take the role of the heroine (not voiced in most cases) in the story and the characters speak directly to you.
Immorality Prison is an R18 Drama CD where you take the role of the heroine and the character speaks to you. These kinds of stories lead to sex scenes with the heroine (you) x the character and there’s moaning, lots of moaning. (male character) You get to listen to your favorite seiyuu moan in your ear. 😉
I recommend that you check out my Drama CD Masterpost, maybe you’ll find some that you’re interested in. I’ve also posted a few sample audio so definitely check those out, too. With that said, I welcome you to this hell. 😉 Hope this helps! ^_^
