Random underexplored dynamics: Quinn/Britt

Britt: “Oh, no, this is just platonic, it doesn’t need to be gay.” Quinn: “...I doubt that.” Britt: “Don’t be silly. You’re straight, right?” Quinn, in denial: *nods firmly* Britt: “And you want to make out?” Quinn: “...A li’l.” Britt: “Then it’s definitely straight! See!” Quinn: “Okay. I’m convinced.”

The fact that that part where santana holds quinn when she's getting up from her wheelchair was improvised by Naya and quinn's reaction was all Dianna is so cute i don't have words for it

So good. I still wish we’d seen the glee club reacting to Quinn’s accident though. A Pezberry ‘Running Up That Hill’ duet while they wait for news at the hospital would’ve made my life complete. Bonus points if Britt was on backing vocals.

Well as the same with Quinntana, I can only see Brittany and Santana with someone else in an AU where one of them doesn’t exist, because in a universe where they both do, they always end up together.

BUT assuming there is no Santana (😭) let’s explore this.

It’s actually a tough one with these two characters in particular because they’re both so inconsistently written. Like it’s a lot of head canon and gap filling as opposed to Brittana/Quinntana where Santana’s character is so strong it guides the dynamic of the pairing.

Taking what we know of Britt canonically in a couple with someone who’s “tough on the outside soft on the inside” I could see her having a similar dynamic with Quinn. I think she would be a good partner to Quinn in that she’d reassure her and encourage her and make her feel safe and cut through to her vulnerability the way she does with Santana.

Where I think they’d struggle though, is I’m not sure Quinn would fully understand Brittany. Like I just don’t know if she’d get her quirks and I think in turn that would hurt Brittany, because one of the things she loves about Santana is how much she gets her.

That being said, I think Quinn understands Britt more than people give her credit for (she laughs along with her shade sometimes with Santana as if she’s in the know), but that’s obv on a friendship level. I don’t think she has a deep enough understanding of who Britt is at her core, and idk maybe that’s bc she’s never needed to try understand her that deeply, and so maybe she could if they were in a romantically relationship. But personally I just see these two as friend vibes.

OK but picture this re Quinn/Brittany (and Santana too)

Brittany and Quinn at home while Santana is working late.

Quinn's felt some kind of way because Beth's birthday is coming up and she always gets a little melancholy this time a year. Not because she isn't sure she did the right thing - because now that she's in her mid 20's she is sure she did the right thing - but because sometimes life just hits you.

So Brittany being Brittany can see what's going on.

So she lights some candles and she makes Quinn's favorite dinner. They eat sitting on the floor with the lights off and their backs pressed against the couch.

And Brittany waits. She waits because she knows when Quinn is ready she'll talk.

And two glasses of white wine in the flood gates open.

She talks about Beth and Puck and the bittersweet thoughts she has around both. She talks about being pregnant and giving birth. About how she knows now it was postpartum depression and it's not shameful but she had no idea at the time why she felt like she did.

And Brittany lets it out. She doesn't say a word. Not a single one. She just holds Quinn and lets her break the walls that she has built up around these memories.

And then once Quinn has talked herself out and cried herself out she tells Quinn about how brave she is. About how lovable she is. How proud she is of her.

And Quinn feels it. She can feel the love that Brittany has for her. She feels it from Santana too even if she's not physically in the room.

And she tells her one day she'd like them to have a baby. The three of them. Somehow they will figure out how to do that. And she tells her how glad she is to be able to do this with the two strongest and bravest women she knows at her side.

And Quinn cries more but these tears? These tears are happy. Because when they decide to expand their family it won't be unplanned after two wine coolers. It will be with eyes wide open and with their hands in each others.

By the time Santana comes home, the tears are gone. Replaced by soft smiles as they cuddle on the couch. Santana joining them after she takes a quick shower. She comes out wearing Quinn's shorts and Brittany's shirt. "So, what are we talking about tonight?" Santana would ask.

"Kids." Quinn would tell her.

"So a nice light topic," Santana would nod.

"What do you think, San?" Brittany would look over the top of Quinn's head at her. "One day you think you might want a little cheerleader toddling another?"

"Yeah, BrittBritt. You, me and Quinn would have the coolest kid in the world." Santana's grin would nearly split her face.

After that? Beth's birthday coming up doesn't make Quinn feel quite so melancholy.

omg i love all your fanfic esp the math of love triangles ofc. ahh what are your thoughts on like santana and quinn post break up reuniting? or britt and quinn fic talking about santana and bonding ?? san is my fav character and it’s so fun seeing the layers she has how you portray them.

Oh thank you! They've been so much fun to write, particularly Quinntana in the last couple of weeks.

A Quinntana break up would be interesting. I see it unfolding differently depending on when it happened. Eg. If they dated in high school it would be a repressed lesbian mess, s4/5 would probably get a little dicey and they'd make their friends pick sides/quarrel constantly etc. My favourite version of them is actually a canon divergent friendship break up circa s6 (because those can STING too), then reconciling a few years down the track when they've both sorted some of their crap out. I see the word toxic tossed around in relation to Quinntana a lot, but I think they're actually quite compatible and understand each other really well. They'd both just need to work through their insecurities before a relationship would pan out in the long run. Honestly, who doesn't at their age?

As for a Quitt fic, I feel like that was my aim with all of their interactions in GOK haha. They barely had any moments on screen. I imagine Quinn understands that she won't always understand Britt, and she's okay with that. Because they're familiar and they've known each other a long time, they're friends. But I feel like they only really have Santana and glee club in common, so...

Thoughts/head canons on Britt/Quinn friendship? Are they good friends? Just cordial? Do they trade off notes about Santana? Lollll

I think they're probably not on the same wavelength overall, but they've been friends for so long that they've kind of just accepted there'll be certain things they can't relate to each other on. There's love there, but neither is heartbroken if they go a few months without speaking. They definitely fight less than Quinn and Santana do, but they both favour Santana too. So it's more a friendship of convenience than anything else.

Brittany finds it hilarious that Quinn and Santana slept together and teases them both incessantly when she first finds out. But then Quinn casually references something Santana did in bed that she hasn't done with Brittany before and it gets awkward. They all agree never to speak of it again.
